On Episode 15, @agdr03 notes that we can tell when Xiao Nai is acting jealousy despite no overt signs of jealousy in his behavior. I second her observation, “Even his response was not of a jealousy; he was just stating the obvious.” But reading between the lines, we see that he’s purposely blocking off his potential competitor for Weiwei’s affection.
1. Take for instance the basketball one on one, in Episode 5.
At first he didn’t know why he was being challenged by Cao Guang to one-on-one basketball, but he went along with it.
Cao: You’re Xiao Nai?
Nai: That’s me.
Cao: Care to play?
Nai: It’d be rude to decline. How do you want to do this?
He didn’t play with usual intensity. In fact, when he was done beating Cao, he didn’t want to give his fanboys high-five which suggested to me that he didn’t think that the game was a fair match to begin with. It wasn’t a victory to gloat about.
But when he found out that Cao Guang was pursuing Weiwei, he instantly turned around saying, “One more game. I was too easy on him.” He ordered the already exhausted Cao to “Get up!” and he proceeded to kill him on the court.
2. Friend #1 Old Man Yu’s fate, Episode 8
Nai’s friend was excited to catch a glimpse of Weiwei. “By the way, that was the Department Belle standing across the street from us. Has Cupid been favoring me lately? I’ve been running into her a lot. Does this seem like the beginning of something?”
Nai quashed that idea instantly, “Even if it is, it has nothing to do with you.”
3. Friend #3 Mozart’s blanket, Episode 15
Nai’s friend offered to give Weiwei his blanket because it gave him good luck.
Nai nixed that immediately and blocked the blanket from even touching Weiwei. He then embarrasses Mozart, “You’re engaging in false advertising. Freshman year, Marxist philosophy, you flunked twice.”
Cockblocked!
4. Fatherly love, Episode 15
Mozart was only praising Weiwei’s thoughtfulness in saving food for him, “See, Ms. Weiwei is the best. Right now, I feel motherly love.” Nai didn’t have to show his own concern for him, too. “Take your time. Don’t choke.”
When Mozart complimenting him on his softer side, he quipped, “It’s fatherly love,” channeling Darth Vader.
“Luke, I’m your father.”
Mozart’s reaction, “Noooooo!”
5. Friend #2 Monkey’s invitation, Episode 15
After dinner, they played snooker. He thought Weiwei how to play snooker, and she proved capable.
Friend #2 approached him to compliment him on Weiwei’s skills.
Friend: Very technical. Absolute spot on. She’ll go far. Nai, let’s take Ms. Weiwei along, when we come out to play.
Nai: There won’t be a next time.
Friend: Why not?
Nai: I’ll install a pool table at home.
hahaha. Too bad I couldn’t gif his parting look so I took screenshots instead.
I guess there was not need for the follow-up question, “Why?” Why was he going to install a pool table at his home?
My money’s on jealousy. She was attracting the other guys’ attention. He doesn’t want Weiwei’s prowess (not to mention, her body as she bends over that table) in full display to others.
Too bad the actress wasn’t curvaceous.
But if Weiwei knew what she was doing, bending over that pool table is supposed to show off her curves in the front and back. Like Jeanette Lee “Black Widow”
And she doesn’t even have to be wearing revealing outfit. When you think about this, just being able to play fiercely in any competition, online and offline, exudes sexiness.
I laughed at that Darth Vader and Luke gif! 🤣
Good points on his jealous side especially that billiard table! I thought what the heck? LOL!
But we do get it because one of the boy’s did say, it’s very hard for computer science majors to have a girlfriend.
Xiao Nai was just making sure no one tries to take his department belle 🙂
I’m still awake.
It really should be maternal and paternal love, but in the end, I left them as they were subbed: “motherly” and “fatherly” for the effect. “Luke I’m your father.”
True. It’s hard for a geek to get a girlfriend.
One of the guys (Monkey?) was complaining why they didn’t order more food and Old Man said they had to keep their image in front of Weiwei since it’s their first time eating with a girl in the whole time that they were in college. lol.
Mozarta however said that Weiwei isn’t even a “girl” because online she was so fierce, the other gamers thought she was guy. Then, on top of that, she already has Nai. His conclusion then? So Weiwei isn’t a girl but the “third sex.”
See his logic? lol. She’s “off-limits” = third gender.
Oh I totally missed that bit where Old man said that it’s their first time eating with a girl. Wow! For their whole college life! 😆
That makes sense about the third gender. LOL!
Right? How nerdy were they that they couldn’t get a girl to eat with them?
I think it’s their fault too. They traveled in packs so any girl would be intimidated to approach the one guy she was interested in. There are times when your girlfriends/guy group can be such a drag on your social life.
Lol about the off-limits. I think the Chinese Ministry of Culture was promoting the government’s stance on LGTB here. No comment here. 🤐
Yes if you fit in, you fit in. If you don’t, you don’t. 😄
But that’s so hard not having a girl companion at least in all your college life.
Oh yeah let’s leave the third gender there. 😬
Have a nice day! I’m ready to dream of my Yang Yang now. 😉😂🧝🏻♂️
Goodnight! Sweet dreams my friend!
