Because it’s April Fools’ Day, I’m opening up my Top 4 list to other Idol-Actors.
These are my original Fab Four:
1. Siwan of ZE:A
I like him because he’s a thinking actor. Some actors over-emote while some actors don’t emote at all. Siwan, however, is like the Baby Bear in Goldilocks and the Three Bears. He’s just right.
Plus, he sparkles.
2. Do Kyungsoo of EXO
He’s intense and he preps seriously for his roles. I don’t have to worry about incompetence.
And he’s cute even when he doesn’t want to be cute.
3. Ok Taecyeon of 2PM
I know. The issue with him is that he plays himself. People question if that’s really “acting”.
But I don’t care if he doesn’t win any acting award as long as he makes his character half-way believable.
He’s still going on my list because he’s from Bawstuhn. and because of Guigui.
4. Yoon Doojoon of Highlight/formerly Beast
Three words: Splash Splash Love
Plus, he has those funny big googly eyes when he’s acting.
Now, the rest are the contenders.
5. Kim Myungsoo (or L) of Infinite
This actor tugs at my heartstrings.
I’d hate to live with a guy like him. His eyes are always soulful, like he’s perpetually asking for band-aid for his scrape knee, hang nail, cracked lips, split ends….
For some inexplicable reason, he reminds me Yang Yang but chubbier and with wider cheeks.
6. Seo Kang Joon of 5urprise
Did you see his eyes? They’re such deadly weapons he needs a permit before winking.
“Ok, wrap me in your jacket and kidnap me. I don’t care.”
7. Park Jinyoung of Gotcha Got7
Because he’s fun to look at.
For @agdr03, I found these.
credit: imjaebunal’s tumblr
lol. I’m feeling second-hand embarrassment for the soap suds.
8. Lee Junho of 2PM
Because he looks earthy. He’s that construction guy you can bring home to your momma.
9. Park Hyungsik of ZE:A
Because he’s got SWAG. Plus I like the kissing.
10. Lee Joon of Mblaq
I’d hate to see him (with his eyeliner) in a dark alley.
He’s got his psycho moments.
11. Minho of Shinee
Because after all this time, he’s still chill.
Plus, I’ll never forget his time with Yoogeun in “Hello Baby.” He won a lifetime worth of points for that.
10. Cha Eunwoo of Astroturf
As long as he doesn’t give interviews, he’ll be fine.
But he really needs to improve his acting. His eye-glaring here was awkward.
11. Yook Sungjae BtoB
He hasn’t done anything to prove his acting chops but I’m putting him here because of Joy, his partner in that marriage variety show. He too needs improvement.
12. Yung Yonghwa of CNBlue
I’ve a soft-spot for his “Heartstrings” and “You’re Beautiful”
But I wouldn’t watch him now after that scandal…
13. Lee Hongki of FT Island
He’s a goofball and he looks like that guy in “Love Rain”.
14. Lee Taehwan of 5urprise
He’s decent and he’s tall.
Whoops! This isn’t Lee Taehwan. hahaha. I couldn’t find a gif of him that passable so I’ll use this one with Lee Jong Suk as stand-in.
Just know that he’s decent looking and tall.
15. Suho of Exo
It was overly-ambitious of him to play the lead in the adaptation of “Rich Man, Poor Woman” especially when the original actor nailed the role. Maybe next time, he’ll fare better.
huh? Where’s this from??
16. Eric of Shinwa
I’ve to include him just because I used to find him cranky and I’ve a soft spot for cranky people like me.
But I liked him in Spy MyungWol before the crapola happened to the actress.
17. Choi Siwon of Soju (or is Sujo?)
I don’t want to hear about his dog, ok? Bite me.
He was fine in that first romcom of his where he played second lead.
His second romcom was a bore but I’ll check out his new one, “My Fellow Citizens.” But time’s running out on him; he’s beginning to look like that shady Guy Smiley from Sesame Street.
Did I miss anybody?

Mickey Yoochun
Kim HyunJoong
TOP
my favorite idol actor:
1. siwan always be number one :p just with one role he is stay on my top list actor. my complaint only: when he will doing romance drama with clear love line lol damn.
2. DO kyung soo, dancing, singing, and acting all in one perfect.
3. kang min hyuk, he is cute little puppy, my only complaint: he need to study crying scene haha. but i love him anyway. no matter what lol
4. siwon, she was pretty drama made me realize he is not fit as second lead anymore, he need lead role! his acting also enjoyable even he is not my fav one.
5. eric aka junghyuk, he is the king of romcom,i watch all of his drama and i loveeee all of them lol
especially discovery of romance, fuckin in love with him there.
6. L: handsome and improve his acting so much at his last drama.
I am terribly selective. Thus far only Do KyungSoo and SiWan have made the list with DKS the clear leader because of his Atticus Finch like character off screen. I really tried to ‘like’ Taecyeon’s dramas…started Dream High and dropped it quick smart – it couldn’t hold my interest…then I thought I’d try Save Me (seriously creepy) only to find myself falling for the lead actress and the second male lead instead 😂. Haven’t watched DooJoon so no comment. The other contenders don’t quite make it to my ‘must watch’ list when their names are linked with a drama.
In terms of acting ability, I like (in alphabetical order, since I think they are all good performers):
Eric
Im Siwan
Lee Junho
Park Hung Sik
I think they consistently give strong performances and have played enough different characters to show they have range.
Up And Coming:
I would add Jung Jin Young of B1A4 (now formerly of, since he left the group in Dec. 2018) I really liked his performance in Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, and he was decent in web mini drama Windbell. I’m keeping my eye on him.
The Rest:
I haven’t seen any performances by some of the other contenders on your list, so I can’t comment on them. Of the ones I have seen:
First to comment on your current Top 4: Liked Yoon Doo Joon and DO well enough. I don’t know as I would rank them higher in acting ability than the idol-actors on my list of favs, but that’s personal preference. I’ve seen DO take several different types of roles, so I know he has range. Not sure about Yoon Doo Joon’s range as I’ve only seen him in comedy.
Lee Hongki: Good in comedy roles, but I’ve only seen him in 2 dramas, so can’t comment on his range or consistency.
Seo Kang Joon: I’m keeping an eye on him. Before last year, I would have said no way to him being in the same class the top group, but his back to back performances in Are You Human Too? and The Third Charm showed major acting improvement, along with some depth and range. Have to wait to see about consistency.
Choi Siwon: After She Was Pretty, he seems to just be repeating the same character/moves over and over again. Performance in Revolutionary Love was SWP 1.5 and his new drama it looks like SWP 2.0 (maybe it won’t be, I’m not interested enough to check it out) FYI: His group is Super Junior, or SuJu.
Park Jinyoung(Got7): 1st time watching him in He Is Psychometric, but I like what I see. Heard he did well in Legend of the Blue Sea, so I might check that out later.
Lee Joon: Haven’t seen him in anything other than Father Is Strange, where I thought he was good, but I wasn’t blown away.
Jung Yongwha and L: Needs more acting classes and experience
Minho and Cha Eunwoo: They have pretty faces. Acting ability: let’s take some classes and study hard
The others I haven’t seen.
Oh yes! I forgot Jung Jinyoung! When I began watching He’s Psychometric, I thought he and Park Jinyoung were one and the same person. But now I see that the difference. I watched segments of Moonlight Drawn by Clouds and I don’t think he was in them. But he was in Warm and Cozy. Is he first lead material though? Time will tell.
Wow! That’s a lot of idol-actors there!
I don’t really have a top 4 as such but I don’t mind (in no particular order) Do Kyungsoo, Seo Kang Joon, Park JinYoung (thanks for my hot gif!), Park Hyungsik and Choi Siwon.
I’m not feeling anything about the others so I can’t include them. 😃 I guess most of my Oppa’s are not idol turned actors. 🙂
@packmule- Jung JinYoung is definitely in Moonlight Drawn By Clouds-he plays the second male lead there: the nobleman/ex best friend of the Crown Prince. He got a lot of praise for that role. He was also in Warm & Cozy. It will be interesting to see how he performs in his next drama, My First First Love, coming to Netflix April 18. He’ll be the second male lead in that as well.
Sorry for butting in but I like Jung JinYoung too! 😊 He was good in Moonlight Drawn By The Clouds and in Warm and Cozy 😊
I will watch that show @Table122000 because it’s on Netflix.
Thank you!
Does Seo In Guk count as idol-actor? Lol I mean he was a singer before an actor but I would say he is my best “singer/idol-actor” ever lol He keeps improving and improving every single time seeing him, he was great as a rookie back in Reply Me. I didn’t pay attention to him in Master Sun lol Thought he wasn’t good looking at all. And then damn Remeber You, 38 Squad and Shopping Kong Louie happened. Damn I am totally in love with this man. Then The Smile Has Left Your Eyes happened. O.M.G. Among all the veteran actors and actresses, his performance was THE best. Hands down. I remember seeing a knet top comment saying “when did seo in guk’s acting became so deep? Crazy” I was thinking the same. Like his acting was really good already in Louie but like every single time he improves and with the 2 years gap, he deepened even more.
I really like Junho too he just somehow very likable.
I actually didn’t like DO’s performance back in Its Okay That’s Love, But then seeing him in Remember You completely changed his style. I just didn’t feel like his personality allows him to protray such a “cheerful” character and once that killer vibe comes in it totally worked. He then had a lot of chances to practice and act on new projects. He was great in 100days Prince.
I really like what I see from Jinyoung in He Is Psychometric. It’s his first real role since he had only acted as teen roles, or very small roles since 7-8 years ago. I know his company turned down a lot of dramas cos he’s always overseas and he wants to focus on the group schedules before his solo acting, so he didn’t have too many opportunities or range in roles, he’s been acting as a student for all his projects lol But I have always been waiting for him to actually try a full length drama so he gets to improve. As first time acting in a real role, I think he’s been doing great given his refreshing take on some expressions and quite natural for a cheeky silly role. He is able to balance the serious side of Lee Ahn and the foolish side so far. But I can’t wait to see him in different roles and practice more and get more acting experience (well, at least not a student anymore he’s 25 already lol) I hope directors and writers stop thinking he can only be “nation first love” roles or teen roles. I really want to see him as a socialpath or a villan LOL He has those creepy eyes lol
I do like Kang Joon’s performance. He has come a very long way since watching him the first time in Cunning Single Lady.
Haven’t watched too much of Eric and Park Hung Sik, only one drama from each actor. Park Hung Sik was very very likable and yup the kissing was good too hahaha. He has his own swag.
Lee Hongki actually surprised me as the “Pig.” His limited more serious screen time when he showed anger for Zombie, I was kinda captivated by his eyes. Nothing about range or acting or what but simply I was a little shocked and fell in love with him.
Lee Joon I have only seen him in one or two dramas, was good in Vampire Detective but that drama also isn’t that deep. Not very memorable but also nothing’s wrong.
I agree with what you said about L lol he really seemed to have that soulful eyes lol That typical kdrama hurtful male lead eyes? Lol
Cha Eunwoo really does have a very very pretty face. I haven’t seen him acting much. Only in The Best Hit as a supporting role. I mean he did well in that role to be an attractive idol lol he’s attractive lol
😀
Seo In Guk qualifies as an idol-actor and he would have definitely been on my list two, three years ago. However, he’s not going on my list until he’s healed sufficiently from his osteochondritis dissecans or that joint disorder he had that exempted him from mandatory military service. I’ll give it about two to four years before I start watching his shows again.
https://www.soompi.com/article/1054219wpp/seo-in-guk-writes-letter-fans-following-military-exemption-controversy
I don’t care about the veracity/mendacity of his medical condition. That’s his affair, and the SK military. However, in my opinion, if he cannot serve his country and fulfill the mandatory duty of every Korean male citizen because of a health issue, then he can serve for the same length of time doing public service that doesn’t require strenuous activity that he wouldn’t typically do as an actor or a singer. If he can’t even do that, then he should donate a portion of his earnings from his dramas to a government welfare project of his choice. It’s just too unseemly of him to be profiting for himself during the time he should have been performing his duty to others.
I can’t see him playing an upright righteous decent sort of character when I know that aspects of his life don’t fit that image. HA! That’s one reason I don’t want to know about an idol’s personal life; it creates a disconnect or a dissonance when their real life doesn’t match their heroic screen persona.
His fans can howl but I am a judgmental bitch.
Yes, I saw My First First Love on Netflix, too! I’m going to check it out. hahaha. Another one of my list this month.
Yes, I totally skipped Jung JinYoung’s parts on Moonlight Drawn By Clouds.
And yes, I’m enjoying Prissana. Thank you! I’m on Ep 4. I couldn’t find Ep 2 but they didn’t get to meet until later on so I didn’t miss the crucial part. Sigh. I’ve always thought the lead actor was a charmer, and I’m glad he chose roles that didn’t destroy my image of him as a Thai equivalent of Cary Grant. hahaha.
hi packmule3!
I’m so outdated/ limited when it comes to kdramas/film of my favored idols/actors ahahaha
Lee Hongki – just because. no drama/film needed. He made me laugh out loud and cry in variety/ reality shows.
Jung Yonghwa – liked him as Lee Shin in Heartstrings.
Yook Sungjae. impressed by him in School 2015
Park Hyungsik – he’s such a scene stealer in Heirs.
Im Siwan. my heart ached for him in Misaeng.
My fav idol actors are (not in particular order) EXO DO/Kyungsoo (i like him in Hyung), 2PM Taecyeon (i like him in Dream High and Lets Fight Ghosts, thanks Taec for making me listening to Kpop, lol), 2PM Junho (uhmm.. tbh i never watched his drama bcs it’s not my cup of tea, but his gaze and gestures in all of 2PM MVs are killer, so am convinced that he is a good actor), and GOT7 Jinyoung (i wasnt a fans when i watched Legend of the Blue Sea, and i remember i cried for him a lot and that i hate his dad so much for hurting him, and then i saw him as the main lead in GOT7 Flight Log Trilogy teasers, he’s so good am crying)
@adgr03: Not butting in at all. Glad to see another Jung Jinyoung fan. It’s nice to have a real dialog going. You’re welcome for the news about Jung JY new drama on NF. It should be very interesting viewing because it’s a remake of a previous drama by the same writer. It will be interesting to see if the writer made any changes or if they kept everything the same.
@peachietime: I totally love Seo In Guk! I usually think of idol actors as being in boy bands/groups. Totally forgot SIG got his start as a pop singer. I agree he is really talented, and he is on my list of favs. He gives consistently strong performances and he has range. his latest role in The Smile Has left Your Eyes-wow!
@packmule: Glad you are enjoying Prissana(2000)! It is my all time favorite Thai lakorn and so worth seeking out. The storyline and the nice acting performances really make up for the lower production values and poor video quality. Most of the episodes are available on YouTube, but there are a few missing (depending on where you live). If you don’t mind skipping them, you are fine. If you want to see Ep. 2 or any of the other episodes that are not on YT, then you have to download them and watch on your PC. Just go to this site:
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/tam7au7xc16fc/Prissana
Select the episode you want to download by checking the box next to the episode and then click to download up at the top of the page. You can then watch it on your PC with windows Media Player, VLC, or whatever video software is on your PC.
Yes, Tik is really great in this lakorn. And so young too. It’s one of his first roles, so I think he’s about 22 here.
