I don’t like it whenever Jisoo dismisses death like she’s invincible. It sounds too much like a foreshadowing, as if the story is setting us up for a grim turn of events.
We’ve already seen three conspicuous scenes in the drama when she ignored the death signs. I’ll list them so we’re all on the same page. If I missed other moments, just tell me.
In Episode 4, when she and Dr. Hong were checking out the body in the suitcase:
Hong: I hate the people who dump body in the water more than anything.
Jisoo: You said you hate the people who dump in septic tanks last time.
Hong: In my previous life, I’ve must have killed people like this and dumped the bodies. Otherwise, why would I be destined to be doing this for a living? I’m sure this is my punishment.
Jisoo: What about me then? I must have been your accomplice or at least an abettor.
She joked that she took part in death as an accomplice and an abettor, someone who assists in death. But isn’t one own’s demise the ultimate form of cooperation with death? I don’t think she should be joking about being an ACCESSORY to a homicide when she could very well end up being the INTEGRAL element in a murder plot.
In Episode 6, when she and Dr. Hong talked about funerals:
Jisoo: Don’t worry too much, I’ll be at your funeral for three days straight.
Hong: We don’t die according to age (meaning, don’t expect her to die first just because she’s the unnie/elder one). You might die before I do.
Jisoo: It’s pathetic to obsess over life, you know. Fine, I’ll die first then. You live long and prosper. Just don’t forget to be at my funeral.
She was too flippant about her death. This is a common trope in kdramas when a character foresees his/her own death.
As I told @strawberynyoung earlier in the comment section. It wasn’t Sungmo jumping off the bridge I was concerned about, it’s her being in the crosshairs of Sungmo’s stalker/dad.
Then in Episode 8, when she and Dr. Hong discussed the threat on Jisoo’s life:
Hong: What did Prosecutor Kang say? That man will destroy what he cherishes?
Jisoo: It feels weird to hear it like that.
Hong: Detective Eun. What Prosecutor Kang said doesn’t just mean that he cherishes you. That point is that … (THAT man)… he’s trying to destroy you.
Jisoo: I know that too.
Hong: How could you smile then?
Jisoo: Someone so guarded like him said something like that. Let me just feel excited for two hours.
Hong: You shouldn’t feel excited now. Prosecutor Kang even said you should stay out of this case. Didn’t he?
Jisoo: Dr. Hong, if someone dear to Kang Sungmo is in danger, it’s not me.
We see Sungmo scrolling down the pictures found in his stalker/dad’s burner cellphone. There were current pictures were of Jaein as well as pics from two years ago.
Jisoo: I think I understand why he asked Constable Yoon to take care of Ahn. The person that Prosecutor wants to protect was that kid.
However, Jisoo didn’t know that her pictures, too, were in that stalker’s cellphone.
And she appeared in the stalker/dad’s vision that Lee Ahn “read” during the knife attack.

Curiously enough, Jaein was NOT in his vision. If the stabber/dad kept pictures of Jaein in the cellphone from two years back, how come Jaein didn’t figure in his visions, too? Wasn’t she that important in his plan?
Another thing. His disabling of the CCTV?
Detective Nam is right. There’s more to it than just deactivating it. A real criminal doesn’t give advance notice of his activity. What’s he doing? Is he going to give out his calling card now? hahaha.
This is consistent with his earlier behavior. Remember this scene?
Jisoo was also baffled then. “Why is he chained up at all? As if he (the murdered) wanted us to see? Again, who does that? Put chains on an individual but leave unchained?
And Sungmo answered, “So, it’s a challenge from the culprit.”
So, like in the past, the stalker is challenging Sungmo.
lol. He’s beginning to sound like Darth Vader and Darth Sidious. “Give in to your dark side, Kang Sungmo.”
On a more serious note, @nrllee —
there you have one more plausible reason why he wheeled the suitcase with the dead body to the apartment of Sungmo and his mom. What a psycho!
I’m looking forward to their eventual confrontation.
Anyway, I digress again…
That’s why I don’t like it when Jisoo ignores the credible warning from Sungmo. The stalker/dad is more of threat to HER than Jaein. For now, Jaein’s too useful to the killer for info on Sungmo to execute.
What’s more, the YSS Construction is also after her. They already threatened her father that she’s her father’s weak spot. If stalker/dad of Sungmo doesn’t kill her, then perhaps the syndicate will.
But it would be soooo makjang if Jisoo were to die without Kang Sungmo realizing he loved her.
lol.

I think he did it because he had originally planned to kill SM, dump the body in their apartment and set fire to it (like he did next door). He wanted the mom alive. This way Police would’ve assumed the 2 dead in the apartment were SM and his mom. It didn’t look like there were living relatives to identify the bodies. Yes there would be stab wounds but they wouldn’t be looking for SM’s mother. That’s why he went through all that effort to drag the woman’s body there in the first place.
I love your explanation! Makes absolute sense! 👍
Thanks! I see it now. I forgot again about the YSS contruction company connection to Jisoo’s Dad. That is a threat itself. Hopefully she won’t die because I want her to be with Sungmo. I guess it depends on what Sungmo did in connection with the fire 13 years ago.
It’s not good when someone talks about death so lightly. I always think that compared to people who has cancer, whatever problems I have are nothing and so I am very very lucky.
maybe, just maybe, he now obviously went to see Jaein is a clickbait to drawn Soengmo’s attention towards her? but the real target is actually Jisoo, idk why maybe she has something the stalker dad want about the whereabout of Soengmo’s mom, thats why he came to young jisoo too years ago.
But its also confusing to me, since Soengmo cant feel any emotion, why would the stalker dad wants to destroy everything that Seongmo’s cherishes? Plus considering @nrllee said, he might want to kill him and collect his mom, means he doesnt really care of what Seongmo’s feel (for example if he killed his mom). On the other hand, only Jaein who can make Seongmo smile unconsciously and now he looks angry when he saw Jaein’s pic in the stalker dad’s phone. The last time he looks that upset was when he knows LA was following the stalker dad (before he got stabbed).
I need episode 9 come faster.
(Ep 9 spoiler)
Gosh it’s like what the 4th time Jisoo mentioned death ah I don’t like it!
Also – today we probably learned how Jisoo’s dad got threatened when she was young. So she has a decease so probably they promised her dad they will fix Jisoo.
Also I really loved it back in the beginning when Jisoo said to Sungmo: “what? Ahn is also my brother too, you are just a roommate anyways!” Now we see from this episode! Honestly during the long time when Sungmo was gone, it was really Jisoo who was taking care of Ahn all these years. She knows Ahn during the same time and she has always been there with him. I really love that!
Also I love how Daebong’s story was told today. Also loved the fact that he did follow Ahn everywhere before he met his first love lol He was obsessed with Ahn because how Ahn saved him and stood up for him in front of the gangs but most importantly his dad. Daebong’s story is so sad as well when in the beginning they laughed it off by saying oh they gave him a driver and a car. But today we see that clearly how it also traumatized Daebong. Both Ahn and Daebong are the same type of people, they smile like nothing has happened and just always thinking of the others first.
Geez despite his own tragic past, Ahn really has been always saving everyone around him and giving them love and affection. He has so much love and warmth in his heart that he takes care of everyone near him.
Omg and there’s so much more to talk about in this episode!!
I think Jaein is the first to teach Sungmo about emotions. It’s the first time he actually understood what is “pretty” and after that, he could slowly feel and that’s how he learned to care, to cry, to miss and more. Of coz he’s not gonna fight with Ahn so all this time I only fear he doesn’t care about Ahn so much as he does for Jaein. But this episode shows us regardless, Ahn is very valuable to him not only because of his ability but also Ahn himself.
Also, Ahn really is “smart” as in he connects the dots and has high EQ. He just hasn’t no knowledge (well since he doesn’t go to school or study growing up) lol
I love this episode so much I feel like I am loving every week’s new episodes more lol
It may not be like a story like Dr. Prison or Kill It, but I love how the story has been told so far and how they set up the whole premise. All the characters development and their relationships among each other.
Ahhhh!!! Lollll I really didn’t expect much of this but gosh lol I am obsessed!!!!!! I truly care for every single role in this drama!!!! Like everyone!!!!!
P.S. Can’t not talk about how cute Ahn was in this episode tho. When he was teasing hyung “let’s shower together” – his face lol or when hyung rubbed his hair, he looks like a puppy!!!!
I haven’t seen episode 9 yet but ‘let’s shower together!’. I can imagine LA saying it to Hyung. 🤣
Preview for episode 10 looks heavy with emotions.
Thanks!!
Was going to watch it tonight but ended up watching basketball.
Shower? Shower together??!! hahaha. That’ll definitely raise the ratings. What a tease!
