Vagabond: Eps 7 & 8 Post Spoilers Here

Please post your rants, raves, theories, and analyses for Episodes 7 and 8 here.

Let’s be alert for scenes involving the President’s Secretary, Yun Hangki. He should be eliminating that ineffectual President who can’t think for himself and behaves like the lapdog of the Prime Minister.

If looks could kill, somebody would be dead by now.

And be strong, Haeri Go!

Stop playing the NIS agent  peppy cheerleader and moral booster ala Vanna White’s persona on “Wheel of Fortune.”  You can do better.

  1. I seriously don’t understand why there are moments where Go Hae Ri acts like an idol mood maker.

  2. Done with Episode 7. So Hae Ri was not really a “special” agent. Why she behaved the way she did was somehow answered. 😂

  3. So Hae Ri was not really the kind of “special” agent which she always claimed. Why she behaved the way she did was somehow answered. 😂

  4. Ok. Tell me. Don’t leave me hanging, girlfriend.

  5. Blame the director. 😈 He’s probably pandering to the ahjussi fans of Suzy who still think of her as the National Sweetheart or something. At least, IU broke out of that mold.

  6. From reading the other forum, it appears she was treated like a busboy (errand girl) or something? Which sort of explains her lack of on field skills and confidence? And poor SSR’s character seems to be the one to blame for that. 🙄. Still, if she was lacking in so many ways, how did she pass to get the big job in Morocco? And be left to deal with the plane crash? Wouldn’t you send someone unflappable and trustworthy (your best?) to deal with such a high profile case? It would’ve made headline news everywhere? Any little slip would’ve been nit picked and shredded by media. It boggles the mind. 😂

  7. So, the TF figure out the location of the copilot, and set up a mission to grab him.

GHR immediately blabs the whole thing to our hero. In enough detail for CDG to get on the same flight as our super secret, secret from even the NIS, snatch and grab team.

This is beyond silly. The writer is either incredibly stupid or incredibly LAZY.

  8. Says something when not-special agent Go Hae-ri is the smartest one in the room. And no, it’s not an empty room. Wow.

*Stuff about how the co-pilot needs to buy special bottled mineral water*
*Scene of the co-pilot taking deliveries of water, and drugs. Turns out he is an addict.*
A week or so of searching…
GHR: Since Kim Woo-gi hasn’t shown up until now, don’t you think he hired someone to deliver him water? Instead of using drones or staking out, we should ask the locals –

Team leader GTW proceeds to crush the thought, supported by the rest of the team.

  9. Writernim made KTW unlikeable in an instant in this ep. And I am peeved. He could have listened but he doesn’t and dismisses the most logical idea in the room.

Senior NIS team, especially team lead Ki Tae Woong needs to step up their game in ep 8 to redeem their blunder in ep 7.

It’s alarming that the ‘rookie’ agent is the most smart in the room at one point. Yikes!!

  10. I have a feeling KTW made GHR an errand girl is because he secretly likes her and is protecting her in his own way URGH. It’s obvious when KTW incredulously asks if GHR is coming with them to Morocco. He doesn’t like GHR being in risky situations. I hate it when writers create male characters this way – “protecting their love interest in their own way.” *eyeroll* I’m extra peeved because KTW is the only one I’m rooting for at this point and the writer chose to make him into a douchebag, and not a worthy rival to CDG.

I’m not really a fan of the main leads but I’m still watching cause I want to see how this series ends.

  11. You raised a good point there about KTW being protective of GHR.

I’m lukewarm with CDG+GHR because of the unreliability of emotions during a traumatic experience. Their feelings for each other are exaggerated not only because they’re empathizing with each other as fellow “sufferers,” but also because they’re hero-worshiping each other at this point.

Take for example: Go Haeri cooing that CDG is a “god of war.”

Yes, KTW will be transformed into a douchebag, as you said. It’s bound to happen: he must decrease, so CDG will increase.

That’s probably what the actor meant in the press-con, when he displayed uneasiness talking about this role. lol. The actor insisted that his character was definitely a good guy. But for some reason, the actor had trouble with his role. I took his answer to mean he suffered from “cognitive dissonance” playing the guy and that things didn’t add up. lol

  12. Just when I thought that KTW was the only competent NIS agent, we get this inept Morocco operation. It seems that there are only 2 kinds of agents in the NIS: incompetent douchebags and corrupt traitors. Earlier I had hoped that KTW was not a traitor, but now I think that traitor may be better than a douchebag. At least as a traitor he can die in the blaze of glory, right after delivering a monologue about the relative nature of power or something like that…

  13. I don’t think KTW is protective of Haeri. I see that he’s annoyed that he has to take care of a rookie overzealous agent who to him is an easy target to be killed off.

I noticed the drugs given by Kang to KTW. And it makes me wonder are they planning to make him an addict? He is in pain and is dependent on powerful painkillers as shown in ep 7. At the rate of his injections, I don’t find it surprising if he ends up as an addict. Do it show! Make him an addict! At this point…why not? ep 7 was his character downfall, might as well take it to another level. I’m mad they decided to make him disrespectful but I still don’t like Haeri for spilling secrets, she’s Dalgun’s NIS mole. She should be fired once NIS grow brains. Clearly the current NIS lack brains.

Anyways…I’m suspicious of Kang, I think he’s the real M.

  14. I’m watching Episode 8 on Netflix now and if you’ve been cringing at some of the scenes since Episode 1, I recommend you skip 10:54 (“Here, give me a high five”) to 11:45 because it’s going to give you major headache.

  15. Lol!!! I should have listened to you @lollyminx. That was so cringe. And the people around cheering them. Cringex100.

  16. Rats! You made me look! Now, what’s a good brand for an eye bleach? lol.

I want to know what the people were shouting to cheer them on. Does anybody here speak Arabic? 🙂

Okay, back to my Flower Crew ep 7.

  17. Yass..KTW redeemed himself when he reported that Haeri and Dalgun were the ones who captured Kim Woo Gi. His whole team redeemed themselves too. They apologized and congratulated her.

I just realized that Haeri is going after recognition and praise. She is still an agent, regardless of outcome she did break ethical codes for recognition. I can’t blame KTW for not trusting her, she’s been rogue since the beginning and her partner is rogue Dal Gun. Not really a credible partner. Hahahaha!

  18. Finished ep 8. Gosh this drama is OTT and as usual I laughed at serious scenes or maybe through out. It takes a whole lot of imagination and total disregard of logic to get through the episode. But it was exciting with guns and explosions. I wanted to smack multiple characters in this ep, mostly Dalgun for being so uncontrollable and Haeri for continuously being unprofessional.

We got another ‘immortal’ in this ep: Kim Woo Gi. He just refuses to die. He survived a plane crash, drug-related shock, a gunshot and loss of blood….hahahahaha!

  19. Cringe is the word! HAHA. And the whole scene is almost a minute. I can imagine all our facial expressions! 😟😕😧😷😰

@packmule3, sorry I left you hanging the other night. I slept right after posting my comment. 😄

  20. @Storm Moon the Chrissy Teigen meme. That was legit my face while watching that scene 🤣

  21. @packmule3 I thought the guys in the prison chanted ‘see her’ as in see her or date her 🤣😂.

The whole hi5 scene was so cringe. It’s even more cringe than their judo scenes. The writers need to tone it down with Dalgun-Haeri scenes. They’re OTP, we get it, so no need to shove it in our face with meaningless cheesetastic scenes that adds nothing to the plot.

  22. I prefer it when she was being spunky. Not sparky.

That’s why it’s hard to take her NIS character seriously. She’s seriously hard at work, then she suddenly does these campy moves. And I agree with you. Her cutesy moments are a gimmick to highlight a romance between the two. Instead of a love relationship developing naturally, organically, it’s forced by her cheeseball acts.

    Which I find sexist.

Why is it fine that Haeri is the one breaking “out of character” and doing stupid aegyo while DalGun acts all sheepish and bashful? 🤪

I’d like to challenge the director, “Okaayyy. Now do Lee Seunggi.” Lol. Let’s see his character do a hair flip or a fingerheart for her. Or lift her up in the air like she was pair of dumbbells. Or do cartwheels in the middle of the road then finish with a big heart on his head.

Let’s see him do something “extra” and see how THAT works for him.

    Nasty, right? 😂

See? I do wonder whether it’s fine to direct Suzy to do these aegyo scenes, even when they’re grossly out of place, because of her kpop origins. If I were Suzy I’d find them demeaning because I would insist on being treated like a serious actor. IU didn’t get treated this way in Hotel del Luna. The director of Hotel del Luna didn’t treat IU like an actress-WANNABE and make her suddenly do a song-and-dance number or act like a Lolita. No. He recognized and respected IU’s acting chops. That was my first time watching IU and she was impressive.

Also I remember some fans of Park Shin-Hye. They were upset because they thought her acting skills were under-utilized in the kdrama. I’m not a fan of Suzy (this is my first show) but if I was her fan, I’d be scratching my head watching these moments.

What I like is the small movements that show introspection. Like in last week’s episode. Her satoori friend whispered in her ear that KTW also had taped their conversation as a back-up. Haeri then looked back at KTW’s disappearing back and she had this hero-worship look on her face. Now, THAT facial expression nailed it. It was a fangirling face without any extra, OTT and ridiculous motion like a fistbump, or melting knees, or swooning. Her face did it expression. She looked like a person with stars in her eyes. 👍

    See? Little gestures.

  23. @packmul3 Exactly! I feel insulted as part of the audience when Vagabond uses cheap tropes like the ones you mentioned, what more Suzy or her fans? Makes me wonder why the director treated her that way? Was it in the script and she agreed to it even if she read how Go Hae Ri was written? So many questions.

Also, another disappointing thing for me is that the writer is a woman. I Googled the writer’s name and a woman’s photo appeared so I assumed, but I’m not entirely sure the writer is female.

  24. @lollyminx I think there are 2 writters, a married couple. They wrote their dramas together.

  25. “I think there are 2 writters, a married couple. They wrote their dramas together.”

Hmm…makes me wonder if it’s the man who wrote Suzy’s part (the aegyo) and the woman who wrote LSG’s (the angsty brooding hero). Does that make me sexist? 🤔.
