Extra-ordinary You: The Writer

This post will work like a time capsule.

I’m leaving a crazy theory here that I’ll revisit at the end of the show. Strictly speaking, this isn’t even a theory because I’ve no credible explanation.  Let’s just it’s a hunch, a gut feel.

NamJoo’s mother is the writer.

If there was anybody who could write such sappy lines and cheesy plots, it would be his melodramatic mother.

Go ahead and post your own outlandish theories about the ending, scenarios, and characters here. I promise I won’t put you on *stage* and reset you. 😈😂

I’m starting Episodes 9 to 10 (the half-hour ones) this afternoon and marathon through Episodes 11 through 14 tonight so I can hopefully catch up with you all.

  1. Oh, one scene of the last episode would make sense.

She was familiar to Haru but we don’t know why.

  2. And she was familiar to Squid Fairy too. He seemed to look at her strangely. Kyung’s brother is also strange. Either he is just aware or he’s somehow party to the whole plot. I am tossing up the theory that she and Kyung’s brother were characters in Flower. Kyung was a character too. I think he was DO’s suitor in Flower – that whole scene that played out at dinner with the flowers in Secret was out of the comic Flower. The drawing of the male character there had long flowing hair? Haru’s character didn’t have that in Flower.

I get the feeling Haru and DO’s characters in Flower didn’t get their happy ever after. I thought it was odd that the trinket was buried in a box? Why do that? Haru obviously bought it for DO in Flower.

  3. Could be. That would be fun. It was quirky in Supernatural when the Writer God turned out to be Chuck.

Would have to revisit but thought the voiceover about an extra coincided with a shot of her. Kyung’s younger brother has some significance too, camera-wise. Am reserving judgment.

    Is she Haru’s mother too?

    What’s a kdrama without a Birth Secret?

  4. @nrllee, we jinx posted re the brother. Glad I didnt imagine that all on my ownsome.

  5. @Barbrey did we? 😂. I get the feeling all those characters somehow had other roles in Flower. NamJu’s Mother, Squid Fairy, Kyung’s brother, DO, Kyung and Haru (the ones I am not sure about are DoHwa and JooDa). So far it looks like Squid Fairy is the only one with full knowledge about Flower story (only he read it) in the Secret Universe – and he’s dangerous (I don’t fully trust him with all that knowledge). He’s burnt the comic. I get the feeling the characters in Secret have inklings of their past lives but because their memories are wiped, they have these moments of Dejavu where they recognize each other but just can’t place them. That’s why when Haru returns as a named extra in Secret he doesn’t remember.

The potential storyline in Flower. DO is a Princess. Kyung is some Prince or someone of noble birth and their wedding is one where an alliance (power) is brought about (much like the one playing out in Secret). Her true love is Haru (a guard? Someone of lowly status). They make promises to each other via the trumpet Flower trinket and bury it…they will choose their destinies in a future life (the current one in Flower may not have ended well for them). The scar on Haru’s hand was sustained to protect her? Or maybe as a symbol of his promise to her? That he will be by her side? That’s why it disappeared the second time. He was no longer by her side. He had forgotten his promise. It reappears again when he finally remembers on the pedestrian walk.

I really like the ingenuity of this drama. The writer has been very clever. I can totally buy the fact that characters are recycled in comics. They all look the same to me 😂. Honestly I can’t tell them apart most times. They all have the big eyes and sharp features and ridiculously “perfect” proportions. I mean, Kyung read this picture in Flower and immediately said it looked like DanOh? 😂. This scene played out exactly in Secret between Kyung and DO during dinner.

  6. I can’t read that comic.

It’s possible Haru was Kyung’s younger brother in Trumpet Creeper/Flower. He looks like the younger brother, the younger brother likes Dan Oh, it would account for the same-same connection I’ve been feeling between Kyung and Haru, with Haru protective of Kyung while protecting Dan Oh from him.

Actually, I think that might be it, because it explains a number of things glitching at me.

  7. @nrllee, as a direct response – yes,I think your theory is very possible, even probable, and I just went with it to place the brother as replacement for Haru in Secret, but Haru’s not having it! Also, as stated before, I think Do Hwa and Juda might have had a side character relationship in Flower, accounting for why he still loves her in Secret while in Shadow.I

This opens up a fun if complicated train of thought.

  8. This is my theory for Squid Fairy. He really is the only one in the Secret Universe who has read Flower in full. He obviously does not want anyone else to get ideas from it. Whether it’s Kyung or Haru both who chance upon the book. I don’t quite trust his character. I am not quite sure how he fits in so far. He seems happy to have characters gain self awareness but not so much that they interfere with the main plot line. He seems to have a lot of background info eg he explains the story board, the stage/shadow settings. Is he the writer’s alter ego in the Secret Universe? Like how Stan Lee appears as cameos in the Marvel Universe 😂. Maybe that’s why Squid Fairy doesn’t want anyone to read Flower. The writer of Secret has plagiarised Flower and he doesn’t want anyone to know. Even the characters in his story Secret is damning about how bad the writing and plot line is? The 10 year crush (ala betrothal) would work in a Sageuk but who would do that nowadays? 😂

  9. Yeah the betrothal of youngsters is much more a sageuk thing, for political purposes. I like the scenario that Dan Oh in the older text was affianced to Prince Kyung but fell in love with younger brother Haru.

I’m still really seeing a Light/Lucifer thing with Squid Fairy. I think his relationship to the Writer in that case is favored angel/antagonist. He knows most of what the Writer knows about these worlds but is still compelled to obedience on the stage, he rebels, he plants rebellious seeds in humans, then gets squashed into obedience for a time then rebels again. So in a way he is also writing the story – there wouldnt be a Garden of Eden story without Lucifer – but I’m not going as far as avatar yet, though I did conjecture that some episodes back.

I actually think he’s expecting the Writer’s avatar, or somebody important, to show up (‘if he’s back, then that person will be too’). Pkm3 might be right re the mother – she’s definitely significant – or it may be someone else.

I just went to soompi for the first time. Lots of conjecture there!

  10. “NamJoo’s mother is the writer.” Yep, I got the same feeling after seeing how the Squid Fairy reacted to her.

  11. I felt she was squid fairy’s mom in their past comics and had tragic endings. Probably many comics ago. And Baekyung had a past with squid fairy too cos he said to him: I especially don’t want to hear you calling me brother.
