The second trailer for The Eternal King is out.
Thanks to @smileyann and @lovebangwon on twitter for the heads-up.
I don’t know what they’re saying. In that 45 second clip, I only understood two things, KGE saying, “I don’t know” and LMH saying “”Let’s go together.” Hahaha.
When I see a translation, I’ll post it here.
Here’s the English sub, courtesy of DUCKHU TV
TaeEul: Are you really from another world?
(hugs)
Black screen: Beyond “1” and “0”.
LeeGon: (in the forest) Could it be here? (horse galloping) the reason I survived
Black screen: Spring 2020
TaeEul: (confronting LG) You act like you know me but I don’t know you.
LG: (TG in tshirt) Just like I’m not here, you didn’t exist in my world either.
TaeEul: (tying her hair in the park) I’m someone who still has a hard time believing the Earth is round.
LG: (snowflakes rising up) Let’s go to my world together.
My notes:
1. What does “Beyond ‘1’ and ‘0’” mean?
My Reply: The numbers 1 and 0 are used to imply simple logic. They’re the binary numbers used for computer.
“1” means the switch is on, or a “yes.”
“0” means the switch is off, or a “no.”
To me, going beyond “1” and “0” means to believe in something that’s not definable or explainable in simple terms. The idea that there’s another dimension where Lee Gon and Tae Eul exist as friends/lovers/whatever defies logic.
But TaeEul is asked to suspend her disbelief and believe in this fantasy so she can enter Lee Gon’s world.
Similarly, the viewers are asked to ignore reality and believe in the magic of ~~ true love ~~ in this trying time of the coronavirus panic.
2. To nerdy bitches among us, 2020 in binary is 11111100100.
2020 / 2 = 1010 with 0 remainder
1010 / 2 = 505 with 0 remainder
505 / 2 = 252 with 1 remainder
252 / 2 = 126 with 0 remainder
126 / 2 = 63 with 0 remainder
63 / 2 = 31 with 1 remainder
31 / 2 = 15 with 1 remainder
15 / 2 = 7 with 1 remainder
7 / 2 = 3 with 1 remainder
3 / 2 = 1 with 1 remainder
1 / 2 = 0 with 1 remainderThen, when we put the remainders together in reverse order, we get the answer. The decimal number 2020 converted to binary is therefore:
11111100100
source: Decimal.info/Convert2020tobinary
2020 is easier.
3. Remember their first meeting is at the Gwanghaemum Square. They’re right behind the statue of Admiral Yi. The statue of King Segong is behind them.
4. The snowflakes rising instead of falling down?
That’s been done before in Goblin.
Nice try.
What happened to “he doesn’t like to be touched”? He hugged her? Not just prodded her with his finger? His WHOLE body was in contact with hers? So much for Haphephobia – fear of being touched? 😂
Secret descendants of eternal goblin monarch sunshine :
I loved the hug scene where the heroine smashes her jaw against the hero’s shoulder, in slow motion. ^^
Still no Woo Do Hwan…
I have seen polarised responses to this drama ranging from “LMH is life” to “KES sucks” but I’m looking forward to it, to be honest. If I were to base my decision to watch the drama based on how I feel about KES’s past dramas I’d be stuck because I’ve liked half of her dramas and disliked half(of the ones I’ve watched.) I do like LMH, KGE, and KES enough to watch this though.
I am a bit confused about why he is asking her to go back with him to his world. I thought there was a version of KGE’s character in his world already.
I don’t know why he’s asking her to go back to his world. Maybe because she doesn’t believe him that he did come from that world? (Kinda like EunTak in “Goblin” accidentally following Goblin to Quebec City??) Maybe because EunTak is needed to help him with a situation in the other world?
Your guess is as good as mine. We’ll have to wait and see. 🙂
False alarm. He has no problem touching. Phoeeey! That would have been interesting concept, though. A Lee MinHo that’s shrink-wrapped. Can you imagine how frustrated the fangirls would be if LMH couldn’t hug, kiss and initiate any sort of skinship, like the Bubble Boy?
That would be a freaking Horror movie.
Hey,
I first saw the trailer on dramalist.
That’s why I came next on your blog. 😉
Shortly after, I discovered by chance another trailer.
“Find Me In Your Memory”
Fingers crossed, the dream team is back. 🙂
I’ve got a drama to look forward to this year too…
It’s an acceptable compensation.
I have a comment about the trailer, I’m sure you must be intrigued by it…
On the same picture:
For the hero, the snow goes from the ground to the sky.
For the heroine, the snow goes from the sky to the ground.
So there is a little bit of creativity, compared to a scene where the snow only goes from the sky to the ground, or a scene where the snow only goes from the ground to the sky.
LMH gives us a taste of his phenomenal acting skillz! Take that, naysayers! LOL!
I found this twitter post with eng subs embedded. All credit and thanks to the subber.

More seriously, I am looking forward to checking out this drama. Over at Soompi, there is unconfirmed premiere date of April 18, 2020 for Netflix. I was able to find confirmation of the air dates at this NF fansite, so perhaps it is true.

@Wenchanter
Find Me In Your Memory is going to be available at Kocowa and Viki, so there will be subs.
There are english subbed trailers available at Kocowa. Just Scroll down to see them. Make sure you enable the captions by clicking on the globe icon at the bottom right of the screen and select English.

The portail in the bamboo forest reminds me the door in the field of buckwheat in Goblin.
For now, it didn’t make me more excited…
@Table122000
First I have to inform you that your binary nickname is :
Table11101110010010000
I thank you very much. I’ve seen both trailer. But I’m curious to see it with subs now !
I’m still not sure the story will be twilightzoned, but anyway, I’m curious about the drama.
I will do like I always do : grab the raw, then subtitles on subscene, then edit timing on subtitle-edit.
All this made me happy. Maybe I will even take a look at “eternal sunshine of the goblin garden monarch heirs”, if the drama have a plot and is well paced. Who know ? Maybe KES assistant will write a good script this time ! 🙂
My guess is a new character is introduced every week when the new trailer comes out.
This week we had TaeEul. Perhaps next week we’ll have Woo Do Hwan’s character added to the mix. 🙂
Thanks, TAble 122000.
We shall see whether Netflix or Viki will carry The Eternal King. So far, it’s not being advertised. Netflix also said that “When the Weather’s Fine” will be shown but Viki’s carrying it instead.
I prefer that Netflix because then we can expect a regular and on-time release. But Netflix subbers don’t sub the OSTs or add little annotations, so there’s that.
I’m looking forward to this. I did find it rather hilarious that the King preferred academic symposiums to dating. 😂 Intelligence in a partner may be his priority and quite right, too.
“ I’m looking forward to this. I did find it rather hilarious that the King preferred academic symposiums to dating. 😂 Intelligence in a partner may be his priority and quite right, too.”
For shame @Fern. How did you even dare entertain such a thought? OF COURSE the Eternal Monarch (May his name endure forever) would preference academic symposiums to the frivolity of courtship. We should expect nothing less. Legions of exotic princesses from faraway lands would never come close to swaying his steely resolve. Because he has seen her…his One…True…Love. ❤️ Even if she lives in another time zone (and I don’t just mean country in the same era). He will ride his trusty white steed…between worlds…just to be with her. (CUE A Whole New World – from Aladdin)…I can show you my world…Shining, shimmering, splendid. I am hopping onto the magic carpet for a ride too. 😂
@nrllee
It all sounds perfect, but the Eternal Monarch will have to face a major rival.
The heroine is already paired with the goblin!
This love triangle is no joke!
So from that there’s a bit of secret garden with the portal in a field of bamboo, there’s a bit of Goblin with Tae-eul wearing a scarf, there’s a bit of Heirs with his outfit? Didn’t watch Heirs.
Hmmm, I can honestly say that that teaser didn’t really grab me. Nothing exciting about it. 🙂 Also, what’s with the rough pulling hug? But LMH looks good.😆✌️
I am waiting for Woo Do Hwan too.
@packmule3 Thanks for posting this. I’m getting the Goblin feels from this too. I liked thr bamboo forest and the fallimg snow picturization. So that gate in the forest seems to be a portal to move in between dimensions.
Wondering if KGE needs to wear a thick woolly scarf in every drama of hers from now on?🤔🤔 Is it lucky or something?😛
@nrllee: “Legions of exotic princesses from faraway lands would never come close to swaying his steely resolve…..He will ride his trusty white steed in between world just to be with her (Cue A Whole New World – from Alladin).”
Lol…You are so funny🤣🤣🤣🤣
@agdr03: Agreed..LMH looking good in those coats/tuxedos 🤩🤩😍😍
@agdr03 I agree. Trailer did not grab me at all. The only thing that caught my notice was the white horse and not for good reason – cheesy cliche reason. But hey, how often have we seen brilliant trailers and dud films subsequently? I have loved both of these actors – LMH in Personal Taste and City Hunter, and KGE in Cheese in the Trap – so the show to me doesn’t ride on their shoulders but on the script and direction. This trailer is not promising but who can say?
I am really at a loss btw, for an engrossing show. I’ve tried a few of the Chinese ones but while I like some fluff, these are a little too thin on plot and romantic tension for me. I hate to admit to it but I actually like obsessive males and very personable females… but I also need a decent plot to sustain me over many episodes. Aside from Hotel del Luna, the last one I really really liked was I am not a robot. Lots of romantic tension, great acting, and a plot that should have been unbelievable but I could buy it. Something interesting happened every single episode, and the show raised a lot of ethical and interesting questions. It touched me. Where’s my next hit???
@Barbrey , I’ve seen Personal Taste and City Hunter, I liked it as well. 🙂
Yes, we might get blown away by the series even if the teaser is a dud. 🙂
I actually liked I Am Not A Robot. 😍 I’m a fan of YSH. I thought it was a simple story but it had the feels for me. Awesome OST too, I think I still know it all off by heart. 😆
I was watching “Memorist” when @agdr03 posted . lol. So I was sidetracked.
I don’t mind fluffy Cdramas; they’re helpful when I’m dead-tired but the wheels in my head are still turning. I need something to calm me down. Nothing strenuous, nothing contentious. I used to watch a variety show, 2D1N (Two days, one night). One comedian always had me in stitches, Kim Junho. But I admired the director, Yu Hojin. Much of what I know about Korean literature, music, history, and university systems (they filmed campus visits) came from that show. Something would be mentioned in passing which would catch my attention, and I’d check it out.
lol. I always imagined that if my husband and I were going to host a dinner for Korean entertainment personalities, Yu Hojin and Kim Junho would be top on my list. 🙂
Omo! I forgot about YSH’s new series. How is it? It’s a thriller/mystery. Maybe that’s why I forgot. 😂
I don’t know if it’s a thriller or just a mystery story. 🙂 The main lead hadn’t met up yet when I stopped. You posted and I answered. lol.
YSH has superpowers like the Park Jinyoung in “He’s Psychometric.” It should be interesting.
YSH’s face appeared a bit chubby for some reason. He looked like a chipmunk. hahaha. But he’ll lose wait as the filming goes on.
G’night. Off to bed now.
Thanks! I’ll check it out too. 🙂 Chipmunk. LOL!
Park Jin Young is filming his drama as we speak, titled When My Love Blooms. He plays the younger version of the male lead. I’ll have to watch it because of him and because I like Lee Bo Young too. 🙂
I watched the first episode of Memorist and liked it. It reminded me of Voice but a little lighter. I like both the main leads. YSH of course from I am not a robot has tons of charisma and exudes sweetness. Totally agree about the pudgy face – first thing I noticed! It’s already thinner by the end of the episode I think. The female lead (Lee Se Young?) was in Hwayugi. Now I loved most of the actors in Hwayugi (particularly my Cha Seung Won) but didn’t like, and eventually dropped, the drama itself. Lee Se Yeung playing a zombie girl was a reason I stuck it out as long as I did. She was great. I don’t know if she’ll have much scope to show off her character actress chops in this production though; it seems a pretty serious role.
@pkm3, I like the fluffy Chinese ones sometimes too – I’ve even posted on them on this blog. I’ve watched far more Chinese than Korean lately. But maybe it’s just me, but the storylines seem to have gotten even simpler recently and I can’t seem to get past the halfway mark for even the shorter dramas. Anyone else finding this? Or maybe it is just me.
“ YSH’s face appeared a bit chubby for some reason.“
He copped heaps from Netizens for looking “fat”. Err…if that’s fat…well…what about us mere mortals? We’d be morbidly obese. 😑. Don’t they say the camera puts 10lbs on you? He’ll probably slim down as the drama progresses (they hardly sleep when they film).
I haven’t started Memorist. Not sure if I will because Hospital Playlist starts tonight. And I am definitely tuning in to that. Then there’s this strange one called 365:A year against destiny which has caught my eye. The trailers look good so I am tuning in to that later in the month. Trailer below. I am watching for Lee JoonHyuk. He has been on my radar since Are You Human Too…yes for me he outshone Seo KangJoon and I watched for him.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B9UpttaHafP/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=embed_video_watch_again
@Barbrey. Same. I only watched Hwayugi for zombie girl. When she died so did my interest. The plot went all strange mid way… and it lost me.
Which cdramas have you watched @Barbrey ? Just curious if I can get to it as well. My cdramas doesn’t need to be that complicated. I’m simple. 😁
Have you seen The Eternal Dream / The Three Pillow Book? I’m interested in watching it but I’m holding off as it’s got over 50 episodes.
The trailer was lively! I saw LJH in A Poem Day and thought him pretty good but it’s hard to tell because he was playing one of those frozen male lead types. The only thing I’ve seen Seo Kang Joon in is Cheese in the Trap and thought he was great as Inho regardless of the bad press and rumours. None of his subsequent drama plots have interested me though. Casting for Cheese was really good all round I thought. Anyway, I might check out 365’s first episode too.
‘He copped heaps from Netizens for looking “fat”.’
Gosh they’re so nasty! ☹️ Seriously some people are just downright evil. You can never please them and that’s why there’s a lot of suicide in their industry. 😔 Not good.
Since you’re talking about Yoo Seung Ho.
Before I saw one of his dramas, he was an actor who made a very bad impression on me.
To be exact, that impression was this:
https://www.tv-da.fr/images/blog/fiches/fiche-thunderbirds.jpg
A puppet head!
I changed my mind when I saw his acting!
He’s very expressive, and when it comes to sadness and tears, he’s exceptional.
I liked his very melodramatic role in “Remember, war of the sun”.
He’s fortunate his roles have characters. So many male leads seem to have to freeze their face and try to use micro expressions to try to imbue some characterization. Everyone loved Lee Min Ki, for instance, in This is My First Life, but I just felt sorry that such a talented actor (watch him in Ordinary Couple) was so unchallenged. Yoo Seung Ho chooses good roles. I love that he cried in Memorist! Another one I know people don’t always like is Park Seo Jun. I didn’t like him at all in Hwarang and his character was outdone in She was Pretty. I changed my mind about him in Fight My Way where he plays a slightly dumb hunk. You could see the actor in him just becoming that role.
@agdr, most recent is I’ve Fallen for You, whjch is charming but Ive lost interest. But I’ve tried about ten of them the last few months. I think maybe the Chinese ban has made a difference because last year I really enjoyed some historicals and fantasies, like The Story of Ming Lan, The Legends, Evernight, Fights Break Sphere, Yanxi Palace, and modern Put Your Head on My Shoulder, Le Coupe de Foudre etc.
Omo! Here’s some eye candy for Shallow Island citizens. Woo Do Hwan is 😍!
https://www.soompi.com/article/1388860wpp/woo-do-hwan-is-sharp-and-skilled-as-the-captain-of-lee-min-hos-guard-in-the-king-eternal-monarch
His pic made me very excited. 🙂
@agdr03: I like WDH’s cool look too😍 Thanks for sharing 😊 We all need some eye candy in these trying times.
What’s that line about his face can portray both good and evil? It has me wondering..maybe one version of him will be good and the other version in the parallel universe will be bad..would be interesting to see his acting in that case🤔🤔
@Phoenix , WDH looked hot, hotter than LMH on the pics that we’ve seen. 😉
True, the way they described his face as someone who can look good and evil sounds interesting.
I believe he can pull this off 100%. I’ve seen him in My Country and really liked him there. No problem with crying scenes too. 😊 Can’t wait.
Ooh! Finally, some pics of my WDH! Thanks, @agdr03. He looks so good there. He’s got such talent, I really hope that his career will get a big boost with this drama. Hopefully, the “KES effect” will happen for him like it did for Kim Woo Bin in Heirs.
@Barbrey- I feel you on looking for a good drama. I’ve been in a bit of a drama slump myself. As for C Dramas, I just can’t anymore with the bloated episode counts. I really tried to watch My Girlfriend Is An Alien, everyone was saying how hilarious it was, but it just was dragging for me. I had to bail about Ep. 16? I think. It’s a “shorter” drama at 28 eps, but there is not enough story to sustain the length so it just gets boring.
If you are looking for a fluffy rom com, I’ll suggest K Drama Bride of the Century which is now on Viki.
It’s official! The King: The Eternal Monarch will be on Netflix! NF posted the Official Trailer with Eng subs.

And the official Press Release:
https://media.netflix.com/en/press-releases/highly-anticipated-korean-drama-the-king-eternal-monarch-to-premiere-on-netflix-in-april
No specific premiere date given, just April 2020.
Attention @packmule3 , @Table122000’s comment is here about Netflix. 🙂
Ah! Thanks!!
Okay. Will do a write-up.
@Table122000 , did you finish Some Day Or One Day? I’m on episode 3 and so far it’s still holding my interest even with the flipping of scenes from two different times. I just wonder how the writer will end this drama, is it open ended? I just want to prepare myself. Thanks. 🙂
Yes, I want to know this too, agdr03🙌! I don’t deal with open ended or sad endings well 😞 I’m going to decide then if I want to continue with this drama.@Table122000 do tell us😊
@Phoenix , me too. I don’t like sad or open ended endings. What episode are you now? I’m on 4 now, it’s definitely interesting.
I love the main theme song for this drama which is the title. It’s lovely. ☺️
@agdr03 I’ve finished only till episode 2. I like the nostalgic feel of the drama and Alice Ke.
Our tastes, as always, are alike😊 I like that ‘Someday, One Day’ opening song by Shi Shi too, especially the guitar strains at the beginning and the lack of too much accompanying music, with just the focus on the vocals and lyrics. Again, there is something simple yet poignant about that song. I’m still hoping there is a happy ending in the present at least..I don’t know how the past and present tie together.
High five! It’s a very simple but great song and yes the guitar strains at the beginning with the vocals and lyrics, tops! The past and the present, how it comes together, that’s what I want to know too. I think I’d be really conflicted if I imagined myself to be Yu Xuan, I mean the dream of going back to 1998 would be surreal. She said it’s a dream, but I felt it to be so real. LOL. I’m glad I can still follow and the story still flows with the back and forth of the times. The writer for this series is the one that wrote Dr Cutie (the one that @pm3 and I love and is re-watching). It’s definitely different because of the time travelling. Let’s wait for @Table122000.
I’ll put the theme song here, in case anyone would like to hear, it’s in English by the way. 🙂
6:30 for Dr Cutie today??
Okie, that’s 9:30pm my time right? 🙂 I’ll get ready so the boy’s won’t bug me. LOL.
Please open our thread for 16-20.
Thanks. You’re a champion! 🙂
Our Usual time.
🙂
What Ep will we do? 16?
But hey, we can start later. No need to send boys to bed early.
I’ve done my job yesterday (last night it was done) so I’m good. 😂
Our usual time is good. Yes, episode 16. My youngest goes to bed usually at 9:30 but the eldest pushes it to almost 11pm. He won’t bug me as he’ll be busy talking with his friends. 🙂
I just needed to do our family prayer before we start our re-watch. 🙂
Then we can push back half an hour to 7am my time 10pm your time.
Prayers and family come first. 😂
No, its fine. I still have almost 50 minutes to finish it so we can start at our usual time. 🙂
I’ll see you at the new thread at 6:30.
Ok!
