Lee Gon is only the second character to be deemed worthy of a spot here in this blog. He joins Xiao Nai (played by the Chinese actor, Yang Yang) from the Cdrama “Love O2O.”
If you notice, the boyfriends are based on the fictional character, rather than the actor. That’s to ensure that we maintain a healthy line of separation between the actor and the character.
What Lee MinHo does in his private life is his private affair, and has no bearing on our appreciation of the character he played in this kdrama. However, this doesn’t mean that Lee Minho gets a free pass should he be found guilty of engaging in criminal activities or acts of moral turpitude in his private life. All Bitches’ Best Drama Boyfriends must be of stellar character.

I did compose a piece recently, although it was not directly inspired by TKEM. I think the mood can be described using words like solitude and longing, so maybe it will go well with the show. I also liked the poems quoted in the drama, and their mood matches the music too. I will record it and post it.

Started Love O2O tonight to see the standard against whom Lee Gon is being compared.
I will miss all of Team Lee Gon when TKEM ends tomorrow, but most of all I think I’ll miss ES/JY. What a fabulous job Woo Do Hwan did differentiating the two characters, even when they impersonated each other. If WDH doesn’t win an award for his work in TKEM, I will be disappointed.
I also thought Kim Go Eun succeeded in making TE and Luna separate personalities. Luna was nuanced: menacing, yet vulnerable.
I haven’t picked my favorite Lee Gon moment, but I think this role is the best performance I’ve seen from LMH yet, although I haven’t seen him in City Hunter. His dispair was convincing, as well as his being besotted by TE. But my favorite pairing from this drama remains Lee Gon and Head Court Lady Noh. How far these two actors have come since their few scenes together in Boys over Flowers.
Speaking of actors in other roles, I just finished Romance is a Bonus Book. The actor who played PM Koo’s Secretary Kim, Kang Ki Doong, plays a kooky character in RIABB with physical comedy that had me laughing.
I’m ducking out now, but will be back to join the party later. But let me just leave this convenient packet of kimchi…tastes just like what they serve at the palace!

What do you mean by ‘monolithic’ when it refers to a person? Are you saying he’s a huge, rigid block (rather like one of his obelisks? LOL) and is dull? 😂
I think he’s flawed somewhat. He thinks a mighty great deal of himself, is too much of a loner and solitary planner instead of a team player, and he caused HCL Noh endless sleepless nights (lack of consideration)! I liked that Jo Yeong told him he reaped what he sowed by disappearing unexpectedly so often. That got JY hard on his tail and working with him. He hasn’t been given much opportunity to do anything else with others except to give orders. So can’t say that he could win the approval and cooperation of a team on his own, if not for his high, royal status.
It was good that TE was never intimidated by his status and gave him crap. I felt that she was rather too rude, 😑 but it cut him down to size so that their relationship was balanced and equal.
Boyfriend-wise, he wins a place in the BBDB Hall of Fame because he had consideration for TE, took a whole lot of trouble for her and put her good before his own, and mostly kept her in the loop. At the end of course, he was making a promise that he was not sure he’d ever keep, but it was a rule that she had made, so he followed that rule.

After much reflection and comparison of attributes of leading men from around the world, I’ll invite Tom Hardy or Idris Elba. I’m leaning towards TH due to his part in ‘What’s the naughtiest thing you’ve ever done’ interview, which was icing on the cake.
Nothing but the best to end TK:EM with a full blown party complete with decorations, lots of food, alcohol/beverages and games with prices to start it off! It certainly fits our King LG and I’m hoping our Queen TE too by the end of the episode. 😍🤞🏻

@Fern, I understand what you mean. I went and had a read at the Best Boyfriend thread and Xiao Nai’s standards are really way above. He is the epitome of the real boyfriend material for me. ☺️ But LG has his special ways too and really more work as he’s dealing with parallel universe and being a King. ☺️

Although I really liked LMH here, I’m on the fence about LG as an ideal partner. He wants TE to quit life as she knows and go join him as a queen without regard for her father, her career and things she loves. He understands how lonely lady Noh must’ve been in KOC when she belonged to ROK. Then, isn’t he doing the same thing to TE? Okay, she has him THE eternal monarch to keep herself company but okay. I preferred the character of HJJ in LBS (though the acting is far better here.). HJJ quit being a con man for his love. He bought a small house out by the sea (instead of his earlier flashy city lifestyle) so that Chong (a mermaid) could be comfortable. I don’t see such adjustments coming from LG. He’s simply waiting for her to say yes and gallop away with him. Then, he goes and dies on her. I agree with @WEnchanteur, he’s like a huge giant rock. Immovable.
Also, anyone else still unconvinced by the eternal love between LG and TE? @pm3 explained before the show alluded to it that they fell for eachother more than once. But the show has only done two timelines as of now and I’m sorry but it realllly doesn’t explain how he fell for her so deeply in timeline 1. In timeline 2 he just goes and meets her twice. Once she was just FIVE! Maybe in EP 16 some explanation, I hope. I now find TE reactions and approach must more convincing rather than LG falling head over heels with an unknown woman in an ID card. They’re also very different as personalites so logically it should take some time before they’re on the same page. But here, bam! So deeply in love. How? We don’t know. At least I don’t.

@agdr03 hee hee hee. I was kidding about the exclusion. I’m waiting for @phoenix piece but don’t mind sitting anywhere! Would you believe today my RLP (real life partner) was in real time driving me mad? We made an unscheduled stop at his request at the grocery store with the snack time of the baby dangerously close ! We needed to buy only milk but grocery shopping isn’t what it used to be anymore! It takes so freaking long. So I was left in the parking with a hungry child looking at me with accusing eyes as I tried to offer her puffs (those baby finger food things that are very unsubstantial as a meal). He took bajillion hours as I and the baby grew increasingly crazy. And what does he have to say after entering the car? “Phew, I made it really fast. I practically ran all the way for you guys.”

About the scented candles, I’m sorry for confusing you @agdr03. It’s not you, I just have a very confusing way of expressing. I simply meant that lighting the scented candles had no effect on the darkness. They’re different from the usual candles because of their thick outer glass I think. My eyelashes are safe 😂 I meant that I couldn’t see anything even with these candles on.
I was referring to CLoY. Remember that scene where he finds her at the market during power cut with a scented candle ?
I am opting for a long flowing beach dress with a floral pattern. I will go barefoot. As for a date, I am bringing Shin Jae (assuming he is not killed off in the final episode). I also invited Lady Noh as an honorary guest. She can read poetry to those nursing a hangover, location TBD.

Will miss L.ee Gon big time. Let me count the ways. He is beautiful, t he’s thoughtful, unafraid to be intellectual, poetic, respectful, innocent in the ways of some of the worle, mathematical(a skill that is fesred by the masses), kind-hearted, romantic, affectionate. And I will miss his dear friendship with Lady Noh (one of my favorite K Drama characters). She takes good care of him, while being a woman of mystery. Also love the fact that K Dramas aren’t all about youth culture and that there is so much intetgenerational contact.

The one character that I had a soft spot for all through, was Kang Shin Jae. He did not really contribute much to the plot, but I was glad to see him in his proper element, nicely suited and chauffered.
It was Lee Gon’s talking to the Child Shin Jae that prevented him from being at the wrong spot when the car 🚘 crashed. So LG saved and changed the life of Shin Jae inadvertently. That was a nice touch there, for a character who had meant a lot to TE. Yeah, what a great boyfriend! He cares for his girlfriend’s friend, even the one he was at loggerheads with, in the original timeline. 😁

I’m very upset 😔 A highly successful and popular actor of my home country commited suicide. I just thought of TKEM and the flak it’s getting then. I hope these actors never take people too seriously. After all, what are people? Yours today, someone else’s tomorrow. I hope LMH never takes these things seriously. I hope he understands that humans are fickle. I hope he gets mental health help when he needs and doesn’t worry about the fact that media may leak such information. And so on for KGE, HB, JJH and all the rest I don’t even remember the names of. 😥
Sending you hugs @Arihsi. It’s heart wrenching when this things happen and yeah we hope that these actors get help especially when they think they don’t have anyone. This reminded me of a radio DJ (I’m not his fan but I don’t mind him) here when he said one day on a segment that he isn’t happy. He sounded really sad and I felt for him that instant. They allowed callers then and let’s just say I was in tears by the amount of support he got from the listeners. It was something.
My apologies for spoiling the mood of this light hearted party. I hit “post” without a second thought. But it’s true. As a fellow human more than a “fan”, I hope the person we’re holding this party for never goes through such horrendous times. And always knows that help is right there whenever he needs.

We might talk about the traffic. And pollution. And probably delayed trains. And later on, we might walk down the beautiful river Po to finally end the evening. Nothing drastic would happen. There’d be no tragedies to discuss. The politics would be doing its own usual thing without causing catastrophes. There’d be no hurricanes. No deaths. And no destructions. Dear @Arihsi, I understand your sentiment. One of my favourite trips to Italy was shortly before I met my husband. It was dreamlike. The people charmed me. Just being there made me feel sated, content and so far from the cares of the world.
Thank you all for the comments and ideas. I’ve enjoyed reading this blog. I don’t remember how I stumbled upon it, but I am so glad that I did! I was too consumed with this show for 2 months, and I feel emotionally drained from trying to figure out the story. It was fascinating to learn MSD, Euler’s number, and the time freezes. It was beautiful to listen/read the poems, and some of the romantic dialogue that LG gave to TE. Through this blog and show, I learned that ginkgo biloba is a tree and not a plant/herb/root.

@Arihsi, please don’t apologize for bringing to our attention the loss of an actor beloved to you and your Nation. Suicide is something we need to talk about. Depression is treatable, but such a difficult thing to battle. And often people in the midst of that battle put up fronts, looking happy to the world but further exhausting their emotional resources by maintaining the mask.
I’d like to suggest more contestants for the arm wrestling: Yoo Jeong Woo (Captain Yoo) from Prison Playbook, Seo Jung Hu from Healer, and Grim Reaper Wang Yeo from Goblin. So many biceps I’d love to volunteer to check… 💪👈

I worked in Italy for a couple of years and met the the most wonderful and hilarious bunch of people. None of them could care less to the fact that I was the only non-Italian in a 200 people strong team and in spite of huge language barriers, I felt included. And befriended. And warm. Just like the Italian sun that shined so brightly during those years. I felt like I belonged with this bunch of people that I had absolutely nothing in common with. They taught me the wonders of inclusion. By practicing it. And I’m forever grateful for that.
@Arihsi, some people have a gift for natural, generous and considerate hospitality and I found that is true for the Italians, as you did. You must have had to learn the language quickly, but with the ratio you mention it would be inevitable. How wonderful to have those memories to sustain you!
I hope that you will be able to return before much longer when it is safe. When my daughter was two or three I brought her along to visit a friend’s family in the Bergamo region. It was a good tactic, as Italians can’t resist children. She had a wonderful time.

My husband couldn’t understand my explanation why I was snorting with laughter, because I couldn’t stop laughing long enough to form complete sentences. @Welmaris yes. Depression is a pandemic no one talks about. Asia is particularly notorious in systemically ignoring talks on mental health and continuing to label it as “embarassing”. This really needs to change.

@Fern oooo we conceived our daughter there. So yes,it has the most special place in my heart. About the language,yes. It was a prerequisite. But most people on the team could understand basic English and they just told me in good humour to move my hands a lot when I talked and they’d understand whatever I say 😂😂 I used to meet these really old Italian ladies on the bus who’d talk so much with me… I felt bad for them because initially I couldn’t understand a word of what they were saying. So I learnt how to say “I don’t understand Italian” as my first sentence. Well, guess what. They couldn’t care less. They just waved their hands nonchalantly and continued talking ☺️
We plan to visit as soon as we can !

The normal question would be, “what makes his heart flutter?” Yet, you are asking what can crush his heart. Talk about a violent love. Has his majesty ever shed tears in front of you, even once? That is why I refuse to help you.

Greed is the most sincere emotion. I wanted to be an announcer (news anchor), I wanted to get married to a rich man, I wanted to become the prime minister and now I want to become queen. I am sincere about my greed and my ambition, too.

I couldn’t have imagined even 50% of his perfect character: good looks; mountains of rare minerals, king, and “you know, I don’t know about other things, but I know my eyes are charming. I was born with deep-set eyes”.

Hi everyone, I’m here to add to the list of my favourite Lee Gon moments..
When he asked Eun-seop as Young to say “Yes, Pyeha!” strongly. Oh its shared in the screenshot above.
He had some of the cheesiest lines to say in the drama and always got called out for it by Tae-eul. My favourite was in Episode 9 when they’re eating chicken at the riverside. “This is nice. Alcohol, stars, water, chicken,and jealousy. Everything is perfect.” Lol I don’t know why it got me giggling.
Another awesome moment was when he went to exile Prince Buyeong’s son.. that was a really hideous black coat (for me) but he looked good in it, it was also his best walk from getting out of the car to approaching him. He gave the order quickly and walked back.
Of course his Episode 12 rescue and the church scene were great.
@Fan of TKEM, great collection of smart female character sayings! They too are ‘bitches’ to remember!
And although a tragic figure, we can still include Ji Hun’s mother who told LG not to die for her, because she was not his mum, but she was willing to die if it might kill LL as well. She was the only person who’d spilled LL’s blood twice. Earlier she’d bashed him in the head and at the end she’d poisoned him.
She, it was also, who’d given the time when LL would be back to get her, so that LG could prepare to nab him in ROK.
In the ending of LL’s life, it took 2 ladies, Luna who ‘stole’ him out of the police station and TE who was prepared to shoot him and be lost in NMLand. I like that their greatest strength in this short partnership was trust, especially on TE’s end. She trusted Luna with LL and her dad and Luna fulfilled her role until time was reset.

One of the things that help me with some kinds of back strain/pain is doing pelvic tilts. It relaxes the back muscles wonderfully. They can be done standing up with back to the wall or lying down. 😃 🙃

@GB – I was going to list Ji Hun’s mom but decided not to. But as you presented above, she should be mentioned. She endured so much for 25 years. The eating scenes with LL was weird to me, but someone here made a comment that she was LL’s food taster for poison, which made sense. She always picked out food from every dish and stuffed all of it in one big bite! She was strong willed and wanted to die her way and not die by LL’s way.

When I think of the male characters, I start to feel that this show was strongly skewered towards more active women than men. That is pretty rare in shows where there are many characters. 😁

Tea is for every occasion: to stimulate, to calm, to console, to warm up, to cool down, to reward any workman or woman who comes to the house to make repairs, to give to the postie on a cold, wet day, to receive when in a new situation, to share with colleagues, to offer to anyone who needs its comfort. It is what is offered when one steps over the threshold into another’s home or workplace and the phrase, ‘Come in for a cuppa.’ means I will let you into my place.
I believed if LG and JY were from here, that moment at the hotel when Sin-Jae has his revelation, one of them would have said, ‘I’ve just boiled the kettle; sit down and have a cup of tea.’ Seriously.

@GB and @agdr03, I’ve finished Love O2O, but haven’t yet read through all the BoD Love O2O posts. That’ll be my project for the next couple of days.
I did enjoy the story, and appreciated that it wasn’t heavy-handed with the angst. I was charmed by Xiao Nai, his confidence, and his unwavering commitment to Bei Weiwei.
There were a few things that bothered me a lot. The actress who played Bei Weiwei looked anorexic, but her character was complemented on her perfect figure (for instance, while she was shopping for a swimsuit). Throughout the drama she was upheld as a beauty. Other characters who were certainly not overweight fretted about gaining weight. I fear this drama presented an unhealthy concept of ideal female body type. Also, most of Bei Weiwei’s dialogue and non-verbal expressions (sighs, gasps, etc.) seemed overdubbed: they didn’t seem to fit in with the rest of the soundtrack, even though I didn’t see instances of bad lip syncing.
Watching Love O2O directly on the heels of TK:EM made me sit up and take notice when some similarities appeared. In the first seconds of the first episode of Love O2O, players are battling a monster in a bamboo grove.

Thanks for the pics. I recall liking the in game scenes and costumes, and the fact that Wei Wei chose her character because she did not have to dress ‘sexy’. I believe Xiao Nai respected that, since the female characters in his games did not have provocative costumes.
@Welmaris, I’m so glad you enjoyed LoveO2O! ☺️ I remembered when @pml3 recommended it, I watched the first episode and got hooked that I finished all the episodes in days while @pml3 was still catching up. 😁 By the end of it Xiao Nai became our Best Boyfriend and @Phoenix is the President of our club. ☺️ The love story itself was great in a way that it develop and yes the unwavering commitment to each other.
I agree that Zheng Shuang was very thin. I read somewhere that she did this operation just so she can lose weight something like that. But it definitely was too thin because they said the camera gives you a bit of weight but I can imagine her once the camera is off and it’s scary. She’s not like that before LoveO2O.

Be sure to watch to the very end to see his Senior Showcase in full. P.S. child is driving me crazy. When when when do they start to sleep ? I’ve been waiting for over an year now. We completely missed the “sleeps through the night” part and have been going from one sleep regression phase to another. Yesterday night I had tea and bread with cheese (very unhealthy I know) at 3 AM standing outside the fridge-that-was-a-mistake because I couldn’t go on another minute I felt😭😭 cheese was able to restore calm.
@Arihsi we used to tire out the kids in the afternoon but do more calm and less exciting/stimulating stuff towards evening, so that the nights wouldn’t have them hyped up.
For infants to 2 years, I used to place a simple picture of a bold printed smiley face right where baby could see it, about 2 feet away from her face. That kept her still for ages. She’d look and look at the face pattern with concentration. You might leave it there for hours or days if it still fascinates your child. From time to time, I’d change to a simple big round dot or a simple black square. All plain… black on white background. I read somewhere that it may help the child make connections in their brains as they are being stimulated by what they see.
Children aged 0-5 plus are like sponges… they absorb everything in their environment. The thing is not to over-stimulate but to give them something to look at or touch. The usual baby stuff might be too pale/pastel in colour to draw their attention much, so stark contrast colours are good (usually they see black on white best). Give them just a little and do not change it frequently… that can over-stimulate as well.
I used to slowly move the paper with the shape or smiley face across from left to right or up and down and baby would follow this intently with her eyes and head movements. Maybe that tired her out.
With breast-fed babies, I found it easiest to have them next to me when I slept, and to just plug them with a breast LOL when they stirred. Seemed to work for us. 🤭
We also did not let them sleep too long in the day time if we wanted them to sleep at night.
One of my kids calmed down and slept with soothing Taize music. It is slow and repetitive. 😴
For yourself, know that you’re not alone in sleepless parenthood, know that it does get better and love your child and yourself like crazy!!! 😁
Ah, @Arihsi. Poor you and poor child! There as as many solutions as there are children. For one of our babies, once she got to a particular weight the pediatrician said, give her a larger than usual feeding the last thing at night, otherwise she will wake up for feeding. It worked for her but not for her sister. I have friends whose children can’t sleep and those are already at primary school!
Where is JWon when you need him?! Your pediatrican may have some good advice and will also check to see if there are any other physical problems (reflux, temperature, etc.) that could be contributing to not falling asleep and/or not staying asleep. You have certainly already looked at suggestions, but here is one more:

@GB, those are really great ideas! My younger child was borderline hyperactive and not good at self-calming. I think your suggestions would have been helpful back then.
Now both of mine have teen brain, which means they can’t and won’t sleep at a decent hour but need extra sleep for their 2nd stage of cognitive development. 🤨🤪

I blame the lifestyle and the schooling demands that totally spoiled the sleep patterns in our young people. Everyone is expected to swot and work to deadlines. Sleep is the first thing that goes out the window. After this lockdown period, I’m not sure how wakeful-to-sleep scheduling is going to work out for the young people. It’s going to be likely that they’ll be super sleepy in the daytime because they are not able to sleep so much at home!!! However, they have to figure it out for themselves!!!
@GB, yes. Right now, with partial lockdown, both could be accused of ‘sleeping for the nation’, ie, heroic sleeping accomplishments. I can only hope it improves their brains for the next stage… 🤣

Yes, we have already spoken to the pediatrician multiple times, spoken to yet another pediatrician as well, thankfully, it doesn’t seem because of a physical ailment. I went through the NHS link as well 🙈 we have practically tried everything. I’m afraid we’d one day fall into the category you mention @Fern, sleepless parents of primary school aged child.
Aww sending you hugs @Arihsi for the sleepless nights because of you’re bub. It is very hard when they don’t sleep straight and keep waking in the middle of the night. We both had our boys sleep in our bed till they were able to sleep together in 1 room (4&2). I know it’s bad and it’s an Asian thing. 😬 But that worked for us. I mostly had the sleep problem from their birth up to the first year.
Those are great suggestions from @GB and @Fern, some I’m only hearing now. My sister didn’t do what I did, she has a bed with a trundle so she’s on the trundle while my niece tries to sleep.
I hope you’ll be able to find a solution somehow and please don’t think it’s unhealthy to eat bread and cheese (I’m a cheese lover by heart) at 3am, you’ve got the tea to balance it. 😉 You’re allowed to do those things because you’re a Mom and you’re a good one!

Where I live now, it’s said that eating cheese before bed can cause strange dreams, but it’s probably a national myth, as I haven’t heard of it elsewhere.
I like @agdr03’s idea of sleeping with the baby/child if you are comfortable doing that. Putting a baby to sleep in a crib or cot when they are unhappy can be distressing for parent and child alike. I used to read to my younger child and then we had a little repertoire of rhymes and songs that I would sing in order every night. I loved when the moment happened when I could tell that she was starting to let go and drift off.
@arihsi, I empathize! My oldest daughter did not sleep well at night until she started school. Even as an adult, her circadian rhythm leads her to be a night owl.
There have been studies done on how our modern prevalence of artificial light is disrupting the behaviors not only of humans, but other species. I wonder if reducing your child’s exposure to light for a length of time before bed might help.
@agdr03 thank you! Yes we are co- sleeping too at the moment. I absolutely cannot face the idea of going into another room when she awakes bajillion times at night. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing since it’s culturally followed since centuries in many asian countries and these billions of people are alright. 🙈

If you think in terms of all of human history, and also of the many cultures in the world today, the practice of making children sleep alone in their beds is far in the minority.
