Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Birthday, USA! You’re 244 years old young today!!!

I’m still in self-isolation till my test comes back so I can’t join the family barbecue outside my window. But no worries. Covid-19 isn’t going to get me down!

I’m looking at all the pros here.

1. I don’t have to lift a finger to get the barbecue going.

2. I can watch to my heart’s content on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Youtube, Apple TV+ and VIKI.Β  My husband signed us up for all these extra memberships, thinking that I’d be bored staying at home.

3. I’m not making potato salad.

4. I don’t need to do any Costco run for beer and toilet paper.

5. I can blog. (lol. I don’t know if this is a pro or a con, though….)

6. All my office meetings will be on Zoom for now, and I don’t have to wear heels. Woohooo!

7. My kitchen just grew from one to 14 different neighborhood restaurants that will deliver food.

8. No more lipstick smears on my face masks since I’m not venturing out.

9. I’ve a new excuse to order more hand soaps! Ever since this coronavirus, I’ve been indulging in different scented hand soaps.

But I sure do miss our traditional Fourth of July parade. I’m bummed out because I was looking forward to wearing my green “Statue of Liberty” costume (complete with a torch and a halo with spikes). It looks like this:

This was so easy to accessorize with a green mask. πŸ™‚

I’ve been alternating between the “Liberty Statue” and “Betsy Ross” costumes for the annual neighborhood parade. Betsy Ross was the maker of American flag and my outfit is in patriotic colors of red, white, and blue. Kinda like this, but the white fabric is eyelet, the red vest has white stripes, and the blue skirt has white stars. (Yes, I look like a walking flag but that’s the whole point. lol)

  2. I see all your fruits and immediately, I thought of…SANGRIA!! My guys are serious meat eaters so it’s all steak πŸ₯© and baby back ribs for them. They just have to add the barbecue sauce. No fuss for them. And they’re grilling salmon and mussels for me.

    πŸ™‚ Aside from Halloween, Renaissance Festival, and Civil War re-enactments, Fourth of July is one of those holidays I don’t mind wearing costumes. Right now, I’m wearing a flag tshirt. Red, white and blue, with Stars and Stripes. πŸ˜‚

    We take part in the neighborhood parade. My husband’s a member of the Knights of Columbus (it’s a Catholic fraternity) and my sons were in Boy Scouts so they used to march in the parades.

    I was usually roped in to help make the kids’ decorative banner or drive the convertible or walk up and down the parade route telling bystanders to stay on the sidewalk. πŸ€ͺπŸ˜‚ β€” That’s when costumes come in handy. If the Liberty Statue orders people not to block the fire hydrant, or to stay off the median of the road and sit on the sidewalks, they listen. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

    What fun! It’s so cute to know you go all in with the celebrations. I’d love to hang out there and have numerous photo opportunities with walking Statues of Liberty. I’ve seen the ‘original’ in my extremely callow youth and was both intimidated and elated. The former, because she was far more magnificent than I’d expected and the latter because seeing her in the ‘flesh’ proved that I’d really arrived in the land only seen on TV. 🀩

    @packmule3-Happy 4th to tou and yours. Please take advantagebof your enforced “rest”. From all that I have read in your posts, you are one very busy and productive woman. It’s a bummer to wait for Covid test results, and I hope you don’t have it andvare not a carrier. But I believe you are super deserving of you time without any justification. (If you’re on Netflix, check out Dear My Friends. It’s got a wondrrful group of senior actors and actresses(including Court Lady Noh on a tractor) and provides an honest look at aging-with interesting cultural differences). No matter what you do, please make the best of it. And may you be well so next year you can celebrate in either choice of costume.

    @packmule3-One more comment-wOW-You do Cuvil War reenactments! My husband has done a lot of reading about the Cuvil War so when he retired, onenofbourvfirstvroad trips was to Gettysburg and Antietam. There were so many groups of reenactors who made the whole experience come alive. I was partucularly interested in the camp followers. Some impressions-there were so mant hardships, the clothing, to be authentis, were very uncomfortable, the food wasboften scarce, living conditions wrre difficult-just thinking about sanitation and mosquitos. Anyway one more word for you-Respect!

    My husband said that when he went to the USA to work, he came across a Revolutionary War re-enactment whilst hiking. The participants thought it was so funny that an Englishman bumbled into their midst. They gave him a lot of stick. Of course, banter is his specialty, so he gave it right back.

  13. A happy 4th of July here in England. The pubs, cafes and restaurants opened for the first time in months. So nice to have a meal out without cooking! The staff were a little rusty, but that will improve with practice.

    @OldAmericanLady I loved loved Dear my Friends. It was so meaningful for me as I could relate to many of their experiences. Its still like one of my top favourites indie k dramas.

  19. Happy 4th of July weekend to everyone!
    We had a small barbeque with just immediate family, so there were 4 of us. Unfortunately, no fireworks for us this year, but I watched a livestream on Youtube of fireworks in Washington, DC and New York City.
    I did go over to visit my grandmother, aunt and uncle as well earlier in the day (everyone wearing masks and keeping 6ft apart).

    @packmule3- so sorry to hear you are in quarantine. I hope your test comes back negative and you are not sick or feeling unwell. Take care,dear.

    Sorry I was late wishing everyone.

    Our 4th was quiet (children are living far away) with hubby and myself and went for a 100 mile drive , got starbucks, and came home.
