Bitch Talk: Should We Watch These Kdramas?

1. Flower of Evil

Flower of Evil-tp2.jpgsource: asianwiki

Starring Lee JoonGi (That “Scarlet Heart Ryeo” guy) and Moon Chae Won (the “Mama Fairy”)
Start Date: Wednesday, July 29
Episodes: 16

Female detective marries a man with a double identity. She might be sleeping with a homicidal maniac.

To be honest, I’m not emotionally-available for forensic psychiatry. But just tell me if you want a safe space to discuss this kdrama, @Growing_Beautifully, Welmaris, nrllee, et al. I’ll open a thread for you every week. I’ll give the first two episodes a try.

Note: This drama has already started; the other two won’t be shown till the end of this month.

2. Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol

Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol-teaser2SM01.jpgsource: Asianwiki

Starring Go Ah Ra (the lead in “Reply 1994”) and Lee Jae Wook (that actor-who’s-not-Rowoon in “Extraordinary You”)
Start date: Wednesday, August 26
Episodes: 16

Rags-to-riches heroine meets professional part-timer in a country village. I’m getting “When the Weather is Nice” vibes here.

BTW, When you play the notes of the title, do do sol sol la la sol, you’ll find that the melody is familiar. It’s the opening melody of three nursery songs: the Alphabet Song, Baa Baa Black Sheep and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Mozart wrote variations for this melody in his piece, 12 Variations of “Ah vous dirai-je, Maman.” I suspect that the whole point of the story is that heroine has to go back to basics (she’s a pianist by profession) to enjoy life and music from a different outlook.

And since I’m a fan of Lee Jae Wook, here’s a blurb about his character from soompi.

Lee Jae Wook [is] Sun Woo Joon, a free soul who has taken on many different part-time jobs in his life. He always keeps distance between himself and others, but his aloof and quiet demeanor makes one want to approach him and get to know him. He had been living without any dreams or hopes, and when the energetic and bright Goo Ra Ra appears in front of him, he undergoes big changes in his life.

3. Do You Like Brahms?

Do You Like Brahms-TP1.jpgsource: Asianwiki

Starring Kim Min Jae (the actor from “Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency”)
and Park Eun Bin (no, I don’t know her)
Start date: Monday, August 31
Episodes: 16
Network: SBS

Piano prodigy meets noona violinist in college. I’m on the fence on this one. It all boils down to whether the joy I’ll derive from watching KMJ will outweigh the annoyance of watching Park Eun Bin.

Kim Min Jae can play the piano — and even if he can’t, it’s easier to fake playing the piano than the violin. But I don’t know if Park Eun Bin can play the violin. It’ll be as aggravating to watch her pretend to play the violin as it was watching his previous costar Gong Seung Yeon in “Flower Crew” pretend to act. /snark

I’ll wait and see.

100 Comments On “Bitch Talk: Should We Watch These Kdramas?”

  1. I’ll skip Flower of Evil and try the other two. 😊

I have to see KMJ again and hear his voice. 🥰

  2. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@pkml3 Thanks for your offer of a weekly thread for Flower of Evil. Personally, there’s no need to. Especially if you’re not likely to stick with it. But that’s just me.

I’m watching it and like it very much. I’ve just watched Ep 3, and it was so suspenseful, that when the twist came, I was laughing with relief. I hope they give more backstory, the husband and wife relationship, before they got married would be interesting.

I was saying elsewhere that in a laughable twist, we are likely to get a bromance between the ‘killer’ and his ‘accuser’ LOL. I’d watch for that progression if for nothing else. The rest of it, might be a little procedural with the police work, however the ‘killer’s’ policewoman wife adds an interesting dimension, with her suspicions being aroused, plus I wonder what she also may have hidden away.

I’ve been having trouble trying to watch more than 2 shows, therefore I’m not sure that I’ll try the other 2 you’re considering. I may, if you’re chatting about them here. Cheers!

  3. I like a good suspense/mystery, so I am curious about Flower of Evil. I have not started watching it yet, but may give it a try.

As for the 2 piano dramas, I should at least watch their first episodes. If they go with the “Real musicians play from the heart, while fake musicians read sheet music” message, I will run screaming!

I agree that faking piano playing is easier than faking violin playing. The best piano faking I have ever seen is Yoo Ah In in Secret Love Affair.

  4. Oh? There’s a twist, GB?

I wondered whether I should watch “A World of Married” but I think it was @ nrllee who said I probably wouldn’t like it because it’s about marital betrayal.

Let’s see who else wants to watch Flower of Evil. If the other ladies are interested, why not?

  5. I’m a fan of Lee Jae Wook and he’s the only reason I wanted to see the end of ‘Weather is Nice’. Sadly his character petered out at the end. I will have a look. I think Lee Joon Gi is a very good actor.

I’ve had a look at Jiri/Haji trailers and I’ll ask my family if any of them want to co-watch on TV. It would make a change, although I’m not a fan of violence. The show was rated highly by a lot of reviewers I trust.

Meanwhile, I’ll enjoy ‘Count Your Lucky Stars’ for the visuals and hope for the best.

  6. It’s hard to “mime” violin playing because of the bow. Even if the viewer can’t tell whether the mimer is playing the right sound or not, she can see whenever the bow isn’t keeping time with the sound.

I know, right? That whole “Real musicians play from the heart, while fake musicians read sheet music” is a LIE! And shhh…I think the Suzuki method had a role in it. It emphasized learning music by ear instead of reading musical notation so children can start learning to play an instrument at a very young age. But in doing so, it also builds this mindset in young children that learning to read notes is a tedious job.

Note reading/sheet music is integral to music education. You can play from the heart, once the heart knows what to play and how to play it well.

  7. @packmule3 yeah I avoided World of the Married because it was about infidelity and “revenge” – wife Vs mistress. I am not a fan of LSG (goblin elf) so I am skipping Flower of Evil. Will try Brahms with MinJae and also DDSSLLS. I think I am up for some fluff.

@SnowFlower apparently the FL took some lessons (I read it in an article). But I don’t know what that means. 😂 Violin isn’t exactly something you can “fake”, unlike the piano with camera angles. And it’s not an instrument that you can just have a couple of lessons and look proficient.

  8. Fern, I believe Giri/Haji was produced by your BBC. 🙂

    Giri/Haji is translated as Duty/Shame.

  9. @nrllee, I am very forgiving of actors who play musicians. I am very impressed that they take music lessons in preparation for a role.

@pm3, totally agree with you on the pros and cons of the Suzuki method. I don’t want to hijack the topic so I will stop rambling.

  10. I’ve got nine episodes to go to finish Suspicious Partner. I set that aside to power through Love Lasts Forever. I’m hesitant to pick up Flower of Evil because I’m a wuss when it comes to suspense genre. Months ago I started Mother, which is an excellent production all around, but stopped watching at episode 10 because I got too scared.

@Packmule3, I’m surprised you’d even consider watching Do You Like Brahms? since you previously mentioned you’re not fond of noona romances.

Well done fluff would appeal to me right now. That’s why I enjoyed LLF. And those mini-episodes featuring the dancing cat god were a hoot. His demented take on noh theater in the final two episodes almost had me snorting my nightly dose of scotch out my nose. Things that make me laugh are what I need to be watching in these trying times.

  11. Off topic: non-kdramas
@packmule3, yes, so we can watch Giri/Haji on the beeb i-player. It’s interesting that they put it on their 2nd channel rather than BBC1, so it went under the radar for a lot of people.

    https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/giri_haji/s01

Is anyone watching ‘A Suitable Boy’?

  12. I love mystery stories, so I’ve been looking forward to “Flower of Evil”. I’ve been holding off because Edited Viki subs are slow, but I found out it’s also on VIU so I’ll start watching now that I know decent subtitles will be available quickly. The first impression reviews I’ve read have all been positive and it looks like there are already some twists happening in episodes 3-4, so I’m definitely going to check it out.
I also want to check out CHIP-IN, which is another mystery show but more of a “black comedy” vibe there than with Flower of Evil. People have said it reminds them of the film “Knives Out” and I really enjoyed Kinives Out. Bonus is that is short too-only 8 episodes. I think it wraps up next week.

I don’t know about the other dramas you mentioned-I’m not really a fan of music dramas. I’ll wait to see what the reviews are. If it’s something that’s a “must see” I may check it out.

@Welmaris- for well done fluff, I’ll recommend Bride of the Century and 1% of Something (2015). Also, did you see C Drama Girlfriend or About Is Love? I understand where you are coming from with needing a light, breezy watch in these trying times.

  13. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@Table122000 Hi 5! I really like mysteries too and I enjoyed 1% of Something/Anything despite it’s low production value. It was the ultimate extended ‘couple dating and getting-to-know-you’ show.

I just read about Chip In and it sounds like another compelling watch with delicious twists too. I’ll probably watch that too!! Thanks for mentioning it.

I’m about to watch Ep 4 of Flower of Evil soon. Getting excited LOL. Good that possibly everyone is flawed in a surprising way. And am I getting vibes of my fave catnip ie a child mistreated who grows into an adult dealing with trauma of some kind? I’m so wanting to know him better and for others to understand him. Qn: who’s the real victim?

@Welmaris I need to balance out my high stress shows with fun and fluffy ones. I still found a few laughs in the suspenseful shows, but I want to have a real lighthearted guffaw.

@Fern Lee Joon Ki is very good in FOE.

@Snow Flower let us know if you do start on FOE.

  14. @GB, is FoE a procedural (case of the week) or a serialized show? I prefer the latter.

  15. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@Snow Flower, it’s serialized with one arc. There was only 1 case in the 4 episodes I watched, that was not directly linked to the arc.

So far, very fast paced. It’s interesting that show has gone the opposite of other crime/mysteries ie they have revealed (instead of constantly kept hidden) the ‘culprits’ early. In other words, what we are seeing may not be true, ie other twists are in store, since the answers shouldn’t be out so early in the series. The other thing is that the focus is less on ‘who’ but on ‘why’ and ‘how’ plus all the interactions that need to happen.

Then there’s the possibility of yet another supreme twist in that what we thought was twisted was not!!! LOL.

  16. I really want to watch Do You Like Brahms for the actress! Park Eun Bin is a great actress, I really like her. She was the best part of Age of Youth 1 and 2. I miss her in a sageuk. KMJ is good too, so I think they will form a beautiful couple. Brahms had a crush for Clara Shumann, who was older than him but married.

I want to watch Lee Jaek Wook in his first main role (I’m happy for him), but the music seems to be a little part in the drama. I’m not a big fan of Go Ara neither, she’s not bad but meh.

  17. Hello @Growing Beautifully! Thanks for your impressions review on Flower of Evil. I’m going to check it out this weekend. And yes, CHIP-IN sounds promising as well. There have been a lot of mystery/suspense K Dramas released lately. Two others are Graceful Friends and She Knows Everything. Now if only we could get a good Korean rom com-I’m still waiting.

  18. @Table122000> Into the Ring is a good rom-com! The love story and the politics are pretty well balanced. The politics are not boring or too complicated to understand. The couple is super cute.

  19. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@Table122000 I decided to start on Chip In and have gone into 3 episodes already. I must thank you again for the rec. It’s a lovely locked room mystery, just the type I like. Makes me feel like I’ve walked into a Korean version of an Agatha Christie. More fast paced, and with enough suspicions to spread around. The only thing is that show is not doling out the clues as much as I’d like, so that I can play along at detecting, of if it has, I must have missed them!

@Sayaris Thanks for mentioning Into the Ring. I’ll keep that in mind for happy watching.

  20. I watched the 1st episode of Flower of Evil and liked it. I was watching The King 2 Hearts but Viki just moved it to a different subscription level and I am too stingy. So FoE it is. Do do Sol sol will be available on Netflix. Where will the Brahms drama be streaming?

  21. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@Snow Flower, Heheheh! I was wondering if FOE might inspire you as well and what kind of melody you’d compose for it. I’m hoping it wouldn’t be dark and heavy but include the ‘unexpected quirkiness’ that I hope the plot will include.😜

  22. I’m working on my “First Impression” of Flower of Evil, Ep 1. Please wait for it. 🙂

  23. @Growing Beautifully-Thanks for your impressions of CHIP-IN. Definitely going to check it out.
Thanks for the rom com recommendation, @Sayaris.
I’ll look forward to your First Impression post on Flower of Evil, @pm3.

  24. “Flower of evil”: I’ll definitely watch because Lee Joon-Gi is one of my favorite male actors. And I also like Moon Cha-Won.
“Do you like Brahms”: it sounds interesting, and I like the dramas that take place in the musical universe. For example: “Secret love affair” and “Page turner”.

The problem is that I already have a lot of dramas that I put on-hold from the beginning, and I would see after the broadcast: “Psycho but it’s Ok”, “Backstreet Rookie”, “Train”.
I watched some scenes from the first episodes of “Memorist” and “Good Casting”, and it’s catchy.

Instead, I watched some dramas already finished: “Six Flying Dragons” (great! one of the best sageuk), “Kkondae Intern”, “365: Repeat the Year” (plot-twist avalanche).
Now I’m watching “My Fellow Citizens!”, but I barely have time to watch one episode a day.
I’m having a big scheduling problem. Too much drama, not enough time…

  25. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@WEnchanteur LOL… you join many of us in that happy problem … too many shows to watch, not enough time. It’s better than the alternative that hit us before ie nothing nice to watch no matter how little time we have, or worse, when we have lots of time!!!

Good to know that you’ll watch Flower of Evil. Maybe you’ll join us on the First Impressions thread.

I really liked Page Turner – short and to the point. I’m also very quickly gobbling up another mystery show, Chip In which is well made, fast paced and another short series.

    🧐 🔎 ⏰ ⏳ ⏱️ 🔍 looking for time!!! 🔎 ⏰ ⏳ ⏱️ 🔍 😬

  26. @SnowFlower – sample of MinJae’s playing. Looks legitimate? 😯. But he used to train to be an idol before he became an actor so maybe he already could play.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CDiXae3pUpX/?igshid=s1wgsmc11jf2

  27. @GB,
    Hi, are you fine?
I might be watching the first episode of Flower of Evil then read Packmule article, but I think I’ll binge watch all after the broadcast. I prefer it that way, because I easily forget what happens over the weeks.
For “Page Turner”, the writer is Park Hye Ryun, one of my favorites.
And so, the drama I’m most looking forward to this year is “Start-Up”, in October. 😉

  28. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Hey there @WEnchanteur! I am fine indeed. I trust that you are too. Yes, I recall that you prefer to binge watch. LOL all your frustrations over TE:EM when you live watched the episodes.

I seldom research drama writers or PDs to decide on which shows are likely good to watch, therefore thanks for the info on Start-Up. I have found the last few times, going along with the recommendations of others has been paying off. I’m too lazy to go figure out what to watch on my own. 🥴 🤔 😉

  29. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@nrllee @Snow Flower, what is the name of the piece Min Jae plays?

  30. Traumerei (Dreaming) from Scenes from Childhood by Robert Schumann. (Yes, the husband of Clara and a mentor of young Brahms)

  31. Yay for Six Flying Dragons! Best martial arts scenes. Byun Yo Han singing is an added bonus.

  32. My pick is #1 and #3. 🙂

  33. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Thanks @Snow Flower! I’m ashamed to say that I heard it played many times but never found out the name of this piece. 😬 😁

  34. Howdy!

This is the preview for Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol. Lee Jae-Wook looks good in it. 😃

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CDfsaZapL_o/?igshid=abxez9rdm9bg

  35. Howdy! ☺️ This has nothing to do with any drama but I checked at our Warm & Cozy thread but it’s closed already so I’ll put it here. Queen and I love Kang Sora. We wish her all the best and congratulations on her upcoming marriage! 💐💐💐

    https://www.soompi.com/article/1419563wpp/kang-sora-announces-marriage-to-non-celebrity-boyfriend

  36. @agdr03 icemaid is overjoyed 😁 we are celebrating in our little private chat in Soompi 🙂. We were actually low key shipping her with SiWan (the only other actor in their agency Plum). He’s such a nice boy. But not meant to be. We’re all happy for her regardless. Her parents would be ecstatic. No wonder she hasn’t been doing any dramas. Too busy dating 😂

  37. @nrllee she dated Hyun Bin and you were imagining her with SiWan? What a weird idea! 😀

  38. Aww that’s so nice @nrllee! How can I forget about icemaid? She’s Kang Sora’s number 1 fan. 🥰 Is SiWan the one in Misaeng?

I know I shipped her with YYS after Warm & Cozy but Hyun Bin came in and I was like whoa 😃 I was happy for her but that was the end of my shipping life. 😂 never again 🙅🏻‍♀️

Please tell icemaid that I’m overjoyed too for Kang Sora. ☺️ Thank you!

  39. @Sayaris only because he’s the only other person in her agency? Or at least I think it’s just the 2 of them? In Plum? So yeah it was just something that crossed my mind. Nothing serious. 😂

@agdr03 yes that’s him! He’s sweet and kind. And he’s intelligent. Like I said before it wasn’t serious. I will tell Icemaid you said hi. She’s been waiting so long for SoRa to pick some drama up and she never did. 😂. I guess she was “busy”.

  40. Thanks @nrllee! 😘. I was waiting for her to have another drama too but she knows her priority so good for her. ☺️ I’m sure she’ll always come back unless her next priority is to become a Mum. 😁

  41. @agdr03 hello!
    So happy Sora’s getting married!
Thanks to @nrllee for informing me that you are here.
With Sora getting married there’s even less of a chance to see her in a drama. Oh well, as long as she is happy!

  42. Waaa! Chingu @icemaid 🤗😘 It’s been years! I hope you are well. Yeah, I couldn’t be happier for Sora. She finally found her Mr Right. ☺️ I hope she’ll be very happy and blessed. I guess we will always have her Warm & Cozy drama to get back to. Well it’s my favourite of hers anyway. ☺️ So nice to see you here and yes, thanks to @nrllee. 😉

  43. So much for keeping his identity secret. 😂. Icemaid just showed me the article. Kind gentlemanly doctor.

    https://www.allkpop.com/article/2020/08/details-on-actress-kang-so-ras-husband-to-be-revealed

According to reports on August 18, the actress is marrying an oriental medicine doctor in his late 30s, who’s described as a kind, gentlemanly doctor from a well-to-do family.

One insider stated, “Many people seemed surprised by the news of the wedding because the two secretly dated. The groom’s good looks make him stand out, so it looks like a good-looking man and woman have met.”

  44. Thanks @nrllee ☺️ I want some picture as well 😂

Speaking of good looks, Sora’s beauty really stands out for me ever since. I mean Song Hye Kyo, Kim Tae Hee, Jun Ji Hoon, they’re pretty but I’m not into their pretty. This is just me. 🤞🏻😄

  45. This is how I see it:

Song Hye Kyo: trophy beauty. The type that raises a guy’s image when he brags to his old school friends at class reunions that he’s dating her. But I do like her looks best of all.
Kim Tae Hee: refined beauty. The guy will have to live up to her standards. He probably can’t even burp and pass gas in her presence. 🙂
Jun Ji Hyun: stuck-up beauty. Ever since “My Sassy Girl,” (which I hated for glamorizing an abusive relationship), I thought she was too aware of her beauty. It’s as annoying as George Clooney’s preening.
Sora: down-to-earth beauty. I can imagine her doing baked sales with her friends and running the parent-teacher conferences for her child.

  46. @packmule3> I never understood the succes of My Sassy Girl, I couldn’t stand the FL. For the actress, she always looked older than her age for me.

For Do You Like Brahms, it looks like Park Eun Bin played violon before the drama, so it’s nice to have both actors who could play their instruments 🙂

  47. Nicely put Queen ( just give me permission to call you this please? 😬 I’ve gotten used to it 😂).

Yeah I totally can see Sora doing those things. It made me remember Jung Joo with her three kids with Geon Woo. 😍

  48. And I enjoyed Sora in that reality show, “We Got Married.” She was partnered with LeeTeuk. I liked how earnest she was. It was all pretend of course but she tackled that job like it was real. And I gave her kudos.

As for those actresses and actors who couldn’t be bothered to do their FAKE jobs well on that virtual-reality show (e.g., Kim SoEun, NamGoong Min, Gong Seungyeon) — why did they agree to go on that show? Tsk tsk tsk. They wanted the popularity and name-recognition that show would bring them, then they acted as if they were too good for the show after that. 🤮

  49. I’ve never seen any of the We Got Married show but I know Sora and LeeTeuk had a lot of shippers for them. ☺️

When is LLF episode 6 review coming? 😃

  50. Yes! Same here, Sayaris! That movie should come with a ⚠️ warning.

The writer of “My Sassy Girl” thought that the story of a girl physically tormenting her boyfriend because she-was-hurting-inside, could pass off as “feminist” writing. 🤮🤮 If a guy smacked the girl repeatedly, viewers would be up in arms. I don’t get what was so funny with a girl-on-boy bashing.

And I couldn’t stand how the guy accepted all that shit. Hello??? Battered Person Syndrome? What’s the message of this movie? That everything’s okay because “Love Conquers All”? 😂😂

Bottom line: if the situation was reversed, we’d be screaming at the writer for misogyny. “My Sassy Girl” belongs in the junk pile. It’s as bad as those Thai lakorns with the rape scenes. Wait! It might even be worse than lakorns because the movie normalized a dysfunctional relationship as “comedy” and made the girl’s offensive behavior appear cool and sassy. 👎👎👎

  51. LLF Ep 6 should come out today. 😅 I also have lots of goodies on LLF bec I found another source for fangirling.

But I’m watching another Cdrama right now. Let me finish two more episodes, then I’ll tell you more in a write-up. I’m excited about it.

  52. Congratulations to Kang Sora. I hope she and her fiance will be very happy together. I totally understand about wanting a private ceremony. Hopefully, they will release a photo of the happy couple, or at least a pic of Kang Sora in her wedding dress for the fans.

  53. O look @agdr03 @packmule3. KHY will run circles around JiSoo (BlackPink). And Jung HaeIn? I really liked Sky Castle so I am all in for this.

    https://twitter.com/kdrama_news/status/1297683708602769408?s=21

  54. Waaaaa! Anything Jung HaeIn, I’m all in! 🙋🏻‍♀️ To add KHY is a bonus! I don’t think I’ve seen JiSoo before in a drama before but it’s all good.

    Thanks @nrllee! 😘 I do miss JHI!

  55. @agdr03 It’s because she only did cameo roles before like in Arthdal Chronicles even if her fans act like she was the greatest actress in the world u_u I hope Kim Hye Yoon and Jung Hae In will be the main leads because they’re both great actors.

  56. I hope so too @Sayaris. Thanks 😊

  57. Ooh! My favorite Kdrama “daughter” Kim HyeYoon in a new drama with Jung HaeIn?? I’m in!

I like the title too, “Snowdrops.” The flowers look depressing because they’re drooping; the blooms look like they’re bowing down… unlike sunflowers whose heads are facing the sun. But the name “snowdrop” makes sense of their droopy-ness.

Lol. Weren’t we just talking about spring flowers? Snowdrops are one of the first signs of spring.

  58. Oh, I never thought of snowdrops as depressing. I think of them as nodding rather than drooping, pure and slightly shy from the effort of pushing through frosty soil. They are even earlier here than crocuses.

  59. 😂 If I were a Flower Fairy, I’d be scolding the snowdrops for bowing their heads in shyness. They have nothing to be shy about! They just survived winter. And they pushed themselves through that frosty ground! “Come on now! Raise your heads, pretty snowdrops! Be proud!” 😂

I like crocuses exactly because they look so determined to fight through that last snow fall. I’d see them peeking and I’d think to myself “Oh, goody! Spring’s here!” then — boom! Another 2 inches of snow would crash on their pretty heads overnight. 😂😂 But after the snow melted, they’d still sitting there with their heads up, outlasting the snow.

Spring flowers sure lead interesting internal lives. 😂😂

  60. @packmule3 The secret lives of bulbs. 😂. I like snowdrops.

  61. Nrllee,

Inquiring minds what to know about the secret lives of bees…oops, excuse me… the introspective lives of bulbs. 🌷

  62. It looks like the story will be about a North Korean soldier who falls in love with a South Korean girl.

  63. I love autumn flowering bulbs, too. Saffron crocus and cyclamen that comes back yearly. 😍

  64. Oh, my…if that is the story driving Snowdrops, they’ve got their work cut out for them after the success of CLOY. We Bitches know that what matters is the script, but there will be those who will immediately cry foul because they’re clinging to a past love.

  65. O I like the posters on this one – quite tasteful. I will definitely try to watch.

    https://www.soompi.com/article/1421449wpp/sbss-upcoming-drama-do-you-like-brahms-shares-more-insight-through-characters-posters

  66. Thanks, @Nrllee. Everything’s happening in the next few days, Do Do Sol Sol, and Do You Like Brahms.

There’s also “Alice.” Have you looked into that?

  67. @packmule3 no haven’t looked at Alice sorry.

  68. The Brahms drama looks really promising. Unfortunately, Viki informed me that it is not available in my region…

  69. It looks like even if Jo Woon is the lead in Alice, he didn’t sign the no shirtless scene clause in his contract :p

I’m really excited to see Do You Like Brahms, less for Do Do… Go Ara in crazy and cute girl doesn’t work for me (not after Kim Hye Yoon), she’s too old for this. And the classical music doesn’t look important in this one even if the title is music notes.

  70. UhOh…Snowdrop sounds tragic… 😢. But I like the premise though. Please let KHY (not JiSoo) be the student he (JHI) falls in love with.

“Snowdrop was inspired from a hand-written notes of a man who escaped from North Korea Political Prison Camp back in 1987. A female student discovered him covered in blood and treated him because she thought he was an athlete.

The man was actually one of hundred spies who survived the hell-like training. The tragic fate started when he fell in love with the woman who had saved him, at the same time he had to complete the mission his country gave him. “

  71. Who’s Jisoo? Is she a veteran actress like Kim HyeYoon and Kim SoHyun?

If this is a tragic love story, I’m only going to watch it after it’s done. I’m not going to do any tragedies before elections. lol.

  72. Nope @packmule3. JiSoo is an idol – BlackPink. I have never actually seen her in any dramas/movies so for me she’s an unknown? She’s only ever done cameos? I will withhold judgment until I see her in action. She’s got the other “lead” role so I don’t know what that means exactly. This writer tends to have lots of leads – she did in Sky Castle. There was one idol in Sky Castle and I found his acting uneven. I am glad HaeIn is there to balance KHY. She overshadowed Rowoon in Extraordinary You.

  73. ‘The tragic fate’ doesn’t sound like a happy ending does it? 😬

Anyway let’s wait and see. I’m just excited to watch JHI again. 😊

  74. I wonder if JHI’s wardrobe in Snowdrop will include a green track suit…

  75. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Heh! @nrllee Thanks! I really liked that cameo by KSH. Forgot that he had looked so uncool in Secretly Greatly. It’s great that he doesn’t care about his image and goes all out as the country bumpkin.

  76. Yup, that’s it, @nrllee!

We should dub KSH the king of the cameo. His return as Bang Dong Gu in CLOY was hilarious. Who can forget his attention-grabbing brief appearance at the end of HDL as the new manager at the re-opening of Hotel Blue Moon? And he had me laughing during the Bluebeard clip in PBIO as he played the hunchback.

I hope JHI does well with his new role in Snowdrop. @Packmule3 voiced concern that he’d taken on too many of the same type character between SITR, OSN, and APOYM. But his role in Snowdrop will have to be quite a departure from the male leads in CLOY and Secretly, Greatly to avoid comparison to those iconic characters.

  77. Yes, Welmaris. Because of his boyish looks, Jung Haein is pigeonholed into these roles with the same personality traits.

But I would be lying if I said I didn’t approve of the JHI and Kim HyeYoon pairing. He’s looks like the ideal high school/college “oppa” to Kim HyeYoon.

  78. Cameos (JHI) in Goblin and R1988 😂. The ideal Oppa.

  79. Jang Seung-Jo will be a main character. He acted in The Good Detective, Chocolat, Encounter, etc. He looks younger than his age but he’s still 38 year old.

Jung Hae In was casted in DP Dog Day but there is no news about it…

With COVID, there are a lot of change in productions.

  80. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Thanks @nrllee Loved all those Goblin scenes with JHI. I was slightly droolly watching him there, he looked extra handsome for some reason. 😁

  81. Thanks @Sayaris. I like Jang SeungJo too as an actor. He’s a lovely man offscreen too. Dotes on his wife and child.

@GB I know…casually catching that ball with his mitt as an introduction to EunTak. Sigh. Stuff of dreams. 😍

This is just a note on my rebellion and picking up the first episodes of new shows instead of … you know… doing other more worthwhile things with my time. Partly I’m waiting for the next episodes of FoE, and subbed episodes of The Heiress. The other part is that the supernatural/sci-fi premises of these shows got me curious.

Watched 2 episodes of Alice (2020) – UNLIKE Hotel De (La) Luna and Mystic Pop-up Bar, or even TK:EM, this version of a hotel for time travelers is not at all light or fluffy or whimsical, but (for me) rife with angst for kids and another comment on what a bad idea time travelling is. Joo Won is good to watch in this show and for a change the main couple are not lovers but a mother and son. Greater twist and angst because the one who might kill the Joo Won character could be his ‘dad’.

The other show is more ‘showy’ with more pizzazz and a possible comic element in the crooks who are out to scam other crooks and help businesses (maybe) Robin Hood style. At least in the first ep. Not sure how much of that we’ll get, because the supernatural element of missing/dead people hanging out together crops up. Show is appropriately called Missing : the Other Side. Show however has violence and if the teamwork between parties looking for the missing is not great, I may not hang on to watch. It’s been ages since I’ve seen Go Soo on screen though, and he hasn’t aged!! Still looking good.

  83. @GB, I’m thinking of watching Alice, too, after reading some good review articles about it while eagerly waiting for the next episodes of FOE. Do you like Alice?

  84. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@Au0101 About ‘Alice’ – I liked it well enough to continue for a few more episodes at least. The compelling factor for me is how show will resolve the relationship between mum and son in the present, when the latter should not have been born yet. I’m also interested to see if they have any more futuristic looking gizmos from 2050. So far the show does not seem to be focused on the ‘Alice hotel’ (yes, once again a call back to Alice in Wonderland) but on Joo Won’s police Lieutenant character who’s out solving crimes, and inadvertently discovers his ‘mother’.

I’m also almost into the last stretch of episode 2 of ‘Missing – the Other Side’ and it’s gotten better. Think we’ll have disparate individuals ending up working together amidst much argument. While ‘Alice’ has a hotel, this one has a village of dead, missing people. *semi eye-roll*. This is a gritty OCN show, but may actually have some lighter moments.

  85. Okay I just watched the first 10 minutes of Do You Like Brahms? I like what I am seeing. I am in. I like the female lead. MinJae to come. Looks like your usual fare. Nothing really mind blowing. But it’s pretty. 😂. And it looks fluffy but not so brainless that I fall asleep. A cultured version of Fame? 😂

  86. @SnowFlower the first episode of Do you like Brahms spells out the the love triangle of the 3 you mentioned above. Schumann and Clara his wife and Brahms who obsessed over Clara… MinJae is in a similar situation with his “Clara”. The scene is set. It looks cliche but I am up for some fluff.

  87. @nrllee, I have not watched it yet, because my subscription tier does not include it. I am thinking about upgrading the subscription so I can watch Do You Like Brahms and Alice too. It is still unclear what kind of relationship existed between Clara and Brahms, because she destroyed his letters before her death. She was 14 years older than Brahms and happily married to Robert Schumann, until Robert’s mental health deteriorated, he attempted suicide, and had to spend the last 2 years of his life in a mental asylum. The love story of Robert and Clara is also worthy of a drama.

  88. I finished Alice. Will write a First Impression soon.

I found it funny that they were still manipulating drones from a mission control center in 2050. Right now, there are drones with full airspace awareness and auto action. 🙂

  89. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Hi @pkml3. That’s nice to know. I’m not in the up and up with technology. Maybe the writers aren’t too!!! Or the drones just needed commands that were too complicated, so humans had to micro-manage them. LOL.

  90. Sometimes it’s not good anyway to be at the forefront of technology anyway. I’m often bothered that we’ve developed the technology but we haven’t considered or thought through the ETHICS of using such technology. Like drones. Drone technology is more than 20 years old. And they’re made smaller and smaller. Give it a few years, they should be as small as a bug and undetectable.
But unfortunately, people would still be clueless as to whether such technology should be used in warfare. Can you imagine a country with the ability to create and mobilize an army of drones to attack another country? You don’t need soldiers, you don’t even need nuclear bombs to create chaos and mass murder.

Also it doesn’t even have to be a country. Any madman with enough drones can do so.

  91. @packmule3 sigh, so true. Even now the privacy laws and “airspace” guidelines for drones are murky at best. 😕.

  92. “Geofencing” is available for counter-drone measures. Geofencing is jamming the signals of the drone when it reaches the perimeter of a protected airspace.

The matter of privacy laws is just the beginning. If an individual is intent on assassinating somebody with a drone (or swarm of drones), breaking privacy laws would be the least of his problem.

Not to be an alarmist here, but by 2050, I expect drones to become *more* weaponized.

Anyway, why am I talking about this? My kdrama addiction is supposed to get my mind off work. lol.

  93. Howdy! 👋🏻

Are we watching Tale Of Gumiho? I’m in because it’s LDW and Jo Boah. I like them. 😊 I’ll try to start it this weekend.

Here’s a scene from 1st episode. I haven’t started but good comments about it.

Queen, I hope you’re ok and just busy. Please give us a wave here when you can ok. Thanks 😊

  94. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@agdr03 Thanks for the link for Tale of Gumiho/Tale of the Nine-Tailed (2020). It looks promising. I kind of prefer LDW’s previous hair styles, though, but I can ‘live’ with it for a good drama. 😀

  95. Me and the girls are starting on Private Life this weekend🤭

  96. Will probably start on Tale of Gumiho soon when one of the dramas I watch finish! Sounds promising.

Btw, anyone watching 18 Again? It is based on the American movie 17 Again. I have found this drama funny and many heartfelt moments so far.

  97. @GB, I didn’t pay attention to LDW’s hairstyle because I was busy looking at his handsome face 😂 But the drama does look interesting. Let’s hope this one is much more than his last drama.

@miracle23, Private Life sounds interesting too. But I might have to skip it till later because I have another cdrama to start on. 😊

@grace, enjoy 18 Again. 😊 I’m trying to finish ROY and DYLB. Tale of Gumiho might be the only kdrama that I’ll be watching for now. ☺️

  98. I’m glad to see LDW in a new drama following his talk show, which I suspect wasn’t renewed because it had low ratings. Because I Want to Talk was thoughtfully done, but may have been too cerebral to pull in a high number of watchers.

I’ll probably start watching Tale of Gumiho after I wrap up Maiden Holmes and The School Nurse Files. I like to finish what I start.
