lol. I thought you were going to have your wish, Snow Flower! Jun and Rara were just about to play the piano together when that Doc walked in. Grrrrr…
Yes, Jun’s eye blinks are famous. He’s been famous for that since “Extraordinary You.” He gazes intently at the girl, then he blinks as if he’s short-sighted. It makes him look vulnerable.
But have you been watching “Do You Like Brahms?” I like that the music in this kdrama is much better integrated into the story. The pieces aren’t just added in a slapdash way. Their musical/classical music consultant is doing a good job of selecting the piano pieces that would enhance the plot.
I also like that both actors are more emotive. I absolutely hate it when I’m looking at an actress’ blank face and I have to STRUGGLE to discern her thoughts and feelings. Like, Dang it; it’s her job to emote so viewers don’t have to guess.
@pm3, there are still 12 more episodes to go, so a duet is inevitable. I have not upgraded my Viki subscription in order to watch Brahms yet, but it will happen eventually. I did not watch Extraordinary You or Search www, but now I am reconsidering. I have to have my cute blinks fix while waiting for the next episode of Do Do.
I agree that the music consultant is doing a great job here. I loved hearing Chopin’s Etude in C major when RR was eating Jin’s sandwich.

I wouldn’t recommend “Extraordinary You.” He didn’t get the girl there and his character was a jerk.
That’s why I’m watching him now, and rooting for him here. He was main lead material all along, and he could be a romantic guy, but I wanted him in a happy romcom.

Bummer about LJW not getting the girl in “Extraordinary You.” He will definitely get her in Do Do! “Search WWW” sounds a lot like Noona romance, which is not my favorite genre. Sigh. I will have to endure 5 blinkless days until next week’s episode. But I can always rewatch. I need to refresh my memory about the guy with the watch whose body (and Jun’s ID) was found on the beach.
Yes, same here noona romances aren’t my cup of tea, especially the novelty of such a relationship is given more emphasis than the romance itself.
LJW is doing fine here. And I think that’s why @ Barbrey came out; she’s also a LJW’s fan. (But where is she again?)

@Snow Flower, in www there were two couples where the woman was older, but LJW’s couple seemed more of an age emotionally and physically somehow. He wasn’t a jerk either; he just played on on TV! 🤣. No sad ending for him. 😊

Wow you kept the score for so many years! I am also surprised that the song is used for the school bell. Zarathustra for the school bell would be super dramatic hahaha, the last time our conductor would make us play the song at the start of every concert for him to walk in lol.

Both men are wary of each other. To the Doc, Jun must look suspicious because he suddenly attached himself to Rara. The Doc was looking for Jun’s motives.
Agree. Dr. Cha won that round. It’s his building, and we know that he didn’t plan this. He was in the building even before Rara moved in. So he wasn’t there to stalk Rara.
I don’t think Doc is a bad guy. The two of them are circling like a couple of protective dogs.
Ya I agree, they keep playing spooky music for him but I think he isn’t the stalker.
But I like the way Jun responded to Doc Cha’s intimidation. He doesn’t back down. If he is indeed a chaebol, then he’s kept that arrogant way about him.
He told Cha, “Don’t try and make me seem suspicious. Just tell me why you’re here.”
Considering that he’s younger than Cha, and Cha is a doctor while he’s a “part-timer,” he wasn’t at all intimidated by status and wealth. Telling us that he himself had status and wealth in the real world.

Jun: Ya! Ya! (calling after her) How is she so unpredictable? I didn’t even get to tell her.

The space he made is so perfect for her. But he still distances himself from RaRa. (He perceives that she’s not ready for a relationship?) When she talking with Ms Jin and daughter, she doesn’t seem at all fazed that the daughter plans to marry Jun.

He just didn’t build her a room, he built her a treehouse. That’s why it’s on the second floor. He made windowsfor her. He hung a door marker withher name on it. He painted flowers climbing up the wall. And he made a “doorbell” from the bell. He place pots of flowers on the window sill.
Then, he hung the stars up for her. He made sure that she had stars dangling from the window of her little house.

RR doesn’t feel obliged to help Jun clean, but she would with Doc. Is this due to Doc’s age, class or both? It says to me that she’s comfortable with Jun doing physical work while she rather enjoys herself. He asked, Am I your servant? I think Doc Cha bought the piano for her.
If the piano is from Dodosolsollalasol, then Jun can’t be Dodosolsollalasol because he didn’t have enough money to purchase it. Also, he asked the piano movers who gave it because he wanted to know, too.
When she wondered how Dodosolsollalasol discovered that she was living with him, he looked worried. He chased the piano movers and asked from where the piano was delivered.
I agree agdr03 that Doc could afford it. And he looked pleased when he saw the upright piano she’d been playing on. As if he knew that she didn’t have to play it anymore because she got her own.
Yes, Rara thought about Jun first when she didn’t get the job and she said she’d look for another one.

Here’s the explanation, agdr03.
In Korean language, the R and L sound alike, and use the same squiggly letter.
Hence Lala Land could be like Rara’s Land.
In English, Lala Land is an idiom. If you say that someone is from “lala-land” it means:
a. that she’s from Los Angeles which is abbreviated as L.A. L.A. is associated with Hollywood, movies and actors.
And that’s why there’s connotation with the idiom “lala land” that the person isn’t living in the real world.
b. that she’s living in a fantasy world or make-believe world.
In this sense, Lala’s land means Rara’s make-believe world of happiness and fantasy.
However, I hope calling it “Lala Land” is not a foreshadowing of unhappiness. There was a movie made a few years ago with the same name. In that movie, the couple there didn’t end up together.
But this is a korean romcom so I expect Rara and Jun to end up together.

Oh thanks for that. I’m just following it through the subs so I went with LaLa Land but it’s proper/better for it to be Rara Land. It’s perfect and like you said, it means it’s her world of fantasy and a better ending than LaLa Land. ☺️
I like how Hayoung’s mom is supportive of Rara at the same time that she’s knocking some common sense in her.
She told Rara not to buy more pianos. She should wait until she had lots of students. “Live within your means, not in a fantasy world.”

Then Rara answered that she didn’t say she’d buy a piano. She was only thinking about it. “A piano is expensive, but thinking doesn’t cost money.”

I like that comeback. She wasn’t being mean, she was telling her facts. Her father and her piano teacher, Ms. Gong, didn’t do her any favors by insulating her from reality.

When RaRa said Bye, I went back to Jin’s interesting reaction when she said it before her wedding. He doesn’t like the word does he? It has perhaps several sad connotations to him.
I wonder about why he got so close to her when he delivered the bouquet. She told him to stay away and he said Shireunde. He got right in her face and inspected her closely. Did he recognise her from some other times?
Yes, I liked that HY’s Mom outright said to her to be real and not live in fantasy.
But I liked Rara’s way of thinking too that is she just thought of buying more pianos but she knows that she doesn’t have the means.

I think she WAS teasing him, but I don’t think she’s realized that he’d fallen in love with her. I think she was just teasing him as a friend. She’s friendzoned him so she thinks that even when she jokes about sexual attraction and going to bed together (like HE did), he isn’t going to take her seriously.
But he was feeling jealous when she praised Doc’s congratulatory note. “May the piano sound from Lala Land fill the entire world.”
So he told her to get up and start cleaning.

I like how she didn’t reject Doc’s invitation for lunch. She’s a kind girl.
She felt awkward that he’s hanging around her all the time but then she remembered how she’d been with Jun…bothering him at the cafe he was working in…so she put herself in Doc’s shoes and agreed to have lunch with him.
Of course, Jun was jealous that she’d eaten out with Doc. He had her lunch ready for her.
That moment when she played Satie’s “I Want You” —
Rara: I heard Erik Satie composed the song because he was so in love with someone. What do you think?
Jun: It’s uplifting.
Rara: He was madly in love with that woman until the day he died.
Jun: What about the woman?
Rara: She was very popular. I think she got married at few times.
Jun pauses and watches her play. (BTW, do you heart that ringing sound in the background?)
Jun: That’s sad.
Why is it sad? I think Jun thinks it’s sad because
a. Satie’s love was unrequited.
b. Satie’s beloved was not faithful, was frivolous, was elusive.
In both cases, I think Jun empathized with Satie. Most likely, he sensed that Satie’s unhappy situation could very well be his own own fate/future since Rara was the type to be clueless and happy-go-lucky.
@packmule3, yes Ha Young’s mom is a ditz in other ways but she’s spot on with her advice about thinking things through before acting. A single mom, so she understands the value of reflection.
@agdr03, I think that up to this point RR is more aware of her effect on Doc than on Jun. Is that possible? I think that for now, she’s not keen on encouraging either, but they’re already competing. Looking forward to the next eps.
See that’s where I’m a bit off with Doc when he answered JUST BECAUSE to Rara’s question of why would you lend me that much money.
That’s pretty much the deal, all about being comfortable.
When Dr Cha started playing the piano, I started to dislike that piece. (I’m so suggestible.) This will date me, but it reminds me of the sort of thing Ed Sullivan show musicians would play during a wordless variety act.

To be honest, I was neutral to Satie’s piece before; it wouldn’t be on my list of top 100 piano pieces but it wouldn’t be on my 50 most overrated pieces list like Fur Elise. hahaha.
But after watching that other kdrama “A Piece of Your Mind,” I began disliking this music. It was overplayed in that kdrama and badly woven into the plot.

When Rara and the Doc were talking about being comfortable, I think Doc interpreted Rara’s feelings for Jun incorrectly.
Rara: How do I put this? I’ll give you an example. Let’s say I’m playing the piano while he’s cleaning. I think I’d enjoy playing the piano. But if you were cleaning, I’d be uncomfortable. I’d feel like I should clean, too. You know what I mean?
Doc: (sighs) So in conclusion, you feel comfortable around him. But not around me.
Rara: Is that it?
She wondered, “Is that it?”
To me, her response was like Jun’s response during the piano school launch party.
That time, the Doc wanted to know the relationship between him and Rara. And he also misinterpreted Jun’s feelings for Rara. He thought that Jun was helping her “out of sympathy.”
Jun wasn’t able to deny the doc’s presumption because they were called away to eat rice cake.
But…it’s NOT true that:
a. Jun was helping Rara simply out of sympathy. Not true.
He said so himself.
b. Rara was accepting Jun’s help because she was merely comfortable with Jun. Not true.
She wasn’t sure about her feelings for Jun, at that particular moment, but she knew that it wasn’t merely “comfortable-ness” that was making her dependent on Jun.
Her “Is that it?” didn’t signify an agreement. It was a noncommittal response because she sensed that there was something more in her feelings for Jun, but it was too early to tell.
Oh was Rara’s ‘is that it’ means that she’s trying to tell Doc that that’s not what she meant? 🤔 I’ll wait for you’re explanation.

Rara is certainly growing up because she’s working hard on getting students for the academy.
I think her reply, “Is that it?” to Dr Cha reflects Jun’s reply to himself (and mentally) to Dr Cha words, “I believe it’s because you were sympathetic. Am I wrong?” Jun silently states, “It’s not sympathy.”
They both understand that Dr Cha is trying to manipulate the situation and relationships. Not evilly, but not completely up front either.

Yes, Rara’s likeable as a “Pollyanna” trope.
She’s optimistic.
Nothing gets her down.
She rebounds from a setback.
Tries to be cheerful.
She’ll only worry about one thing at a time.
She’s adapted to her situation.
She’s working hard now with little complaint.
She’s happy-go-lucky and easy-going.
She’s not mean-spirited.
She conks out when she’s stressed out.
I’m pleasantly surprised that she’s sensitive to Jun’s moods.
She told Doc, “Jun doesn’t like to talk about himself. He said he has no family. To tell you the truth, he seems to have a lot of secrets. But I try not to pry.”
She and HaYoung’s mom knew that Jun had secrets but I like that she saw that Jun was hurting inside.
She told Doc when he asked why she didn’t want to pry. “Because he looks hurt and sad. So I told him that he can just tell me when he wants to tell me.”
Seriously, I’d like to just sleep the way Rara does when I’m stressed. 😂 Conked out! 😴

Ah 💡 moment, the IS THAT IT, was meant for Jun and not for Doc. I get it now. She doesn’t know yet what exactly Jun is to her besides being her bank. 😄

Note: the concept of “daddy-long-legs” is a well-known trope in kdramas. It’s from that Webster book about an orphan who was helped by an anonymous benefactor. To pay back her mystery patron, she started writing letters and giving him an update on her progress/his investment.
Here, in this kdrama, Rara knows that Jun is her “creditor” and benefactor. But there are two/three other gentlemen who could be giving her things.
When she saw her gift, she thought it was Jun who sent it to her.
Rara: (thinking) He knows how to touch a girl’s heart. (texting him) Jun, you really are the best. Good good good!!
Jun: (confused) She’s so random. (texts her back) Did you have fun today?
Jun: (she doesn’t reply so sends another text) Are you sleeping?
Jun: (this time, he sends an emoji) questioning face
Jun: (and again) Did you get any students?
Jun: (texts one last time) Everything’s okay, right?
I like that he’s the one frantically texting her back. Like a boyfriend. lol. And he couldn’t sleep because she wasn’t responding.
Meanwhile, she’s snoring.

2. how Rara remembered that her piano lessons with Jun was interrupted by Doc’s arrivals so she went back the following day. Jun was feeling down-in-the-dumps but when he heard Rara playing the piano, he broke into a sprint. Outside his door, he brushed his hair to look presentable.

Rara: You’re here?
Jun: Yes. Why are you here? You don’t have any lessons today.
Rara: Ms. Jin made gimbap so I stole some for you. (he keeps quiet) Just kidding. She told me to drop it off for you. Come have a sit.
Jun: Pfft. Gosh.
hahaha. I like how he would go “pffft” every time she did something unexpected and funny.
Rara: I’m going to watch you eat gimbap.
Jun: Stop. You’re making me sick.

So the incident with the friend is connected with thunder and rain. The guy that bought the cosmetics looked creepy when he was looking at Jun. Good thing Jun was aware of it.
@packmule3, yes, I was thinking Pollyanna or also Annie’s ‘Tomorrow’ with a tiny dash of Scarlet O’Hara, ‘I’ll think about that tomorrow.’
To me Dr Cha has no illusions about Jun’s feelings for RR. To me it seemed more like he was *suggesting* to Jun that Jun’s feelings were sympathetic, while his own were worry and maybe something more; he very pointedly mentioned that he was at RaRa’s wedding. He suggests a lot of things to Jun during this episode, but Jun stands firm without showing his hand.
Jun’s reaction to Ra Ra saying Bye was unintentional but he may have inadvertently scored a goal. We’ll see. 🤨 He certainly scored an own goal with the umbrellas. ☹️

Episode 1. he said “shireunde.” I said the correct translation here wasn’t just a “no.” It was “I don’t want to.”

Episode 3. She waved goodbye, and he stepped forward to follow her. But Doc stopped him.
Episode 4. She said goodbye and waved. He was shocked then he said “Kajima. Kajima.” lol! WE know this word. This word is as utilized in kdrama as “Oppa” and “saranghae.”
I’ll have to do a rewatch because I missed that sound that you said when Jun was looking at Rara while she was playing the piano and he was cleaning.
I was only watching on the iPad because hubby was using the big TV for football.

The umbrella was soooo funny. It backfired on him. He wanted to use only one umbrella so they could share it. But Doc called up and said that he was picking her up.
If he had given her two umbrellas, I’m sure Rara would have then declined Cha’s offer of a ride, and gone home with Jun with the umbrellas.
Why is that Doc such a party-pooper? Why is he always raining on Jun’s parade? lol.

Love the warmth, romance, humor and suspense in this drama.
I like how Ra Ra found a new family with HY and HY’s mum.they way the both of them subtly cared for her just warms my heart esp the scene when she came back late from practicing her piano, both of them asked her where she went and what she was doing. Then the way HY’s mum nagged at her to shower before going to bed. That’s family!
I love how natural the interactions between RR as Jun are.. how they are attracted to each other and understand each other..
Actually I was wondering maybe Jun is not the chaebol but his dead friend is…his dead friend’s mum is actually trying to track jun down to find her son?
Of course who is ddsslls? That part is actually quite creepy.

Doc Cha is always late and he knows it. He does not strike me as a stalker, but more like Daddy Long Legs. He does have more material resources to woo Ra Ra, but he lacks Jun’s ingenuity and commitment. I am rooting for him to get together with Hairdresser Jin.

This was funny. Her comment could be interpreted to mean that she didn’t want to use the tea set with Jun — because he wasn’t her future husband. 🙂
But I don’t think she realized that she was putting him down. I think she just meant that this tea set was something precious to her.
Rara: (continuing) Although my first attempt failed (embarrassed laughter) By the way, what do your parents do?
Jun: (thinks for a second) I don’t have a family.

She wanted to cheer him up. She didn’t know that he had a family but he didn’t want to be part of that family.

As to be expected, whenever Jun felt embarrassed or defensive, he became more aggressive or offensive. I don’t think he meant it though. It was just his defense mechanism.

Jun became flustered because she was offering to be his family and he wasn’t expecting that random comment.
I like that she was very sensitive to him. I like that about Rara. She was born rich, and as far as she knew, Jun was just a poor guy. But she wasn’t snobby nor snooty.
Remember the car accident? When she woke in the hospital and found out that he was okay, she said, “I’m relieved.” She was concerned about Mimi and about Jun.

Ra Ra is a very likeable heroine indeed. She is a little naive, but she is kind-hearted and never snobby. She is unaware of Jun’s romantic feelings, but she can tell when he is sad or hurt.
Her insights about music are very perceptive.
As for Jun, he is a worthy candidate for The Perfect Boyfriend award. He is a little prickly, but never a jerk. He is always sensitive to RR’s needs, but never obsequious or pushy. He has that perfect combination of sharp mind, vulnerability, and sweetness.
I really hope the writing of the drama stays on course and we continue to get our weekly dose of hope and cuteness.
Next time I’ll watch on the family computer. Now I’m watching but can’t post on the laptop and visa versa with the phone so they are side by side. I have to re-enter my details every time I post on the phone. Hopelessly inept, me. 🤣🤓

@Fern I too wondered about why jun strode up to her on her wedding day and examined her closely, even when she asked him to keep his distance. Was it because he wanted to double check that she was who he thought she was? And I think Jun’s mother attended the wedding. Wonder what their backstory is.
I feel for Jun, it must be lonely being on the run like this and having no one to lean on. Glad that he now he has Rara. I realize that while Rara may be ditzy, she is perceptive about the feelings of others. Not only is she able to see Jun’s sadness, she also notices when her father is down. Just that she seems clueless wrt the 2 being interested in her! 😆

I started “Search:WWW” to get my LJW fix. 3 episodes in, he has made only one appearance, but it was hilarious. There is also Jang Ki Yong to keep me distracted, so I am not complaining. Will check out “Search” soon.

@Fern, one of the most sought after composers of movie music, Michael Giacchino, started as video game music composer. I love his work on Lost.
I liked the scene when the character was describing the mood of his music. I thought he was spot on.

I did a quick rewatch of certain parts while folding the laundry. I realize the show gave us many clues wrt various characters that I missed out during the first watch, because my initial approach was to watch the show as a fluffy romcom. Plonking my notes on some characters here:
OLD MAN:
-He is shown in Ep 1 at the top of the cable car tower, as well as in Ep 3 when he asks Rara to play “The Maiden’s Prayer”.
-Might be the Mr Kim who owns the flower shop that Jun stays in (Asianwiki records his name as Kim Man Bok). Jun was said to have rescued Mr Kim from an accident and cared for him, and the shop was left vacant.
-Might be the person who calls Jun at the start of Ep 1 (Jun refers to him as grandpa). Jun was likely to be on his way to meet him/was doing an errand for him when Rara’s car collided into his bike.
PHOTOGRAPHER
-Shown in Ep 1 at the top of the cable car tower taking photographs. Wears a watch with a silver strap.
-Appears in Ep 2 at the meeting that Jun attends, watches on from the balcony as Jun gets into a fight to escape.
-Pops up again in Ep 4 when he visits the cosmetics shop where Jun is working at. Purchases a cosmetics set. Rara later receives a similar set that was left hanging on her front door (this set is not from Jun, and might not be from Dodosolsollalasol since the latter usually signs off).
-Might be the stalker: The closing scenes of Ep 3 show the stalker hanging up a recent photo of Rara printed off her SNS account. As the camera pans around the room, we see many photographs of Rara (likely printed off social media), as well as a shelf full of photographic equipment (with a camera similar to the one this guy was using, as well as binos, telescopes etc).
UNKNOWN WELL-DRESSED PERSON
-Might be the mysterious Dodosolsollalasol (this is assuming that DDSSLLS is a different person from the stalker).
-First appears in Ep 1 in the scenes following the ones that show Dr Cha dressing up for work in his new workplace at Eunpo hospital (this coincides with the scenes of Rara driving to Eunpo). Person is shown getting dressed and wearing a watch with a black metal strap with a gold rim, as well as brown dress shoes. We are not shown his face.
-Later appears at the start of Ep 2, in Rara’s dream, just before she wakes up in the hospital. The person is seated at the top of the cable car tower (the logo is visible), and his brown shoes and watch are shown. He walks off and Rara asks him to wait (this might mean she might have met him before, or knows him?).
-Is seen watching the flower shop from a distance during the opening of Lala Land in Ep 4.
-A body later washes up on the beach, wearing the same watch. Jun’s ID is found on him, and forensics estimate that this person has been dead for a month. (I’m assuming this is not Jun’s friend Ji Hun, since Ji Hun died about 6 months back, based on the date on his urn, 23/12/2019. Ep 4 probably happens in June 2020, as Rara’s wedding was on 2/5/2020, as stated on the wedding invite. Jun was said to have gone missing 6 months back, which coincides with the date of his friend’s death.)
DODOSOLSOLLALASOL
-Asks Rara to come to Eunpo. But when she arrives, he leaves a message saying he will be away for a month.
-Gifts Rara a piano, which arrives at the same time when Jun shows Rara her new room. Tells Rara she can thank him in person in 2 weeks time.
