How did Jun grow up so well and kind?
The little boy vs the old man as piano students, and both vs Mimi?
In one corner we have Jun. In the other we have Dr Cha. Neither are bad guys but both are ready to spill on the other to maintain an upper hand. I’d say that Jun is by far the more vulnerable, but I could be underestimating him. The ref would be the cafe owner.
When stalker/photographer guy comes for his first lesson, I hope that Mimi goes fierce, Lassie-style, because dogs understand, on film anyway.

The sheet music Doc was looking at was Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, 3rd movement. Rara played the same movement on the psychedelic piano in the park when she was showing off her skills to Mrs. Jin and Ha Yeong.

Talking about Mimi: I realize that both Rara and Mimi are also musical notes. Rara=Lala (as @packmule has mentioned), the 6th note on the scale. I think Jun once played those 2 notes on the piano to announce his presence to Rara in one of the scenes? Mimi = 3rd note on the scale. She should have called her car Dodo instead of Juju heh.

Packmule3, I made a major breakthrough with the VMS regarding the illustration symbols. It took months of intensive reading and comparisons though, in medieval and Renaissance subjects I would never have been interested in if I weren’t trying to solve the VMS. I wish you had partnered with me – can’t think of a better person with metaphors, puns and perspectives. Wait – can you do math or run frequency patterns?. I’ve reached an impasse. I know the patterns for the cipher – a huge step, by the way, just to identify them – but solving involves square roots, angles and other geometry, so can’t check my results because I suck at math. It would be so great to actually solve the cipher too. Think about it – seriously. We’d be famous!

That said, the man walking down the corridor wasn’t wearing linen jacket. He had on slim pants, tapered, and ankle-length. That’s not the fashion that old men would wear. 🙂 He was also wearing brogue pointed shoes (with perforations/trims) with laces which again are worn by the younger set.
On his left hand has a wristwatch. Grandpa wasn’t wearing one when he practiced piano. His hands were wrinkled, unlike this stranger.
It couldn’t be Jun unless he lied and had another suit, blue colored. We saw him getting ready though in black suit, with white tshirt underneath
Could it be the Doc? He said he had surgery that day though.
Based on the outfit, my guess is it’s the new piano student. 🙁
I agree, I would like it to be grandpa but I think it’s unlikely. His build and his hands indicate someone younger. Actually in some scenes it looks like Rara’s dad? It’s def not Jun. It may be Doc but going by how they keep trolling us for the Doc maybe not？

It would be so nice if it was grandpa but going by the build and hands it seems like a younger person. In many of the scenes it actually looks like Rara’s dad, but man that would really mess up the plot!

No. Maturity is still not the issue here. The issue here is that, at 18, he’s still developing, evolving, transforming. Even if he’s a “mature” kid, he’s only mature “relative” to his peers. He’s still in the process of maturation.
People change, and the most change in a person’s life occurs at this late adolescence — from 18 to 24. That’s science. The brain stops this rapid and dynamic growth at age 25.
His likes and dislikes at age 18 aren’t going to be the same as when he’s 24.

So grand, so majestic! And it’s the background music of something so mundane and ordinary as cooking ramen.
The musical and the visual elements in this moment make a weird combination but still it works. Kinda like the ramen with its additional toppings.
I like that when Jun doesn’t reply to Rara’s text before she goes to bed she gets worried. But when Jun doesn’t get a reply from her at night time, he understands that she’s conked put. 😂
It depends on the ramen. 😊 On my Nissin ramen, sesame flavour, (Lu Jin’s noodle pack) I beat the eggs before putting it in. But others either I crack it then cook it in the heat or I put boiled eggs. ☺️ I’m Fussy Lu that way 😃
Yes. I want the time leap/fast forward like I’ve never wanted it before in a drama.
If this happened to me in real life, back when I was 24 — like if I met a lovable kid who was certifiable “boyfriend/husband material” — I would have to do the right thing. That is, I’d give him my calling card and tell him to get in touch with me when he was done with college. I’d wait for him. That would be the least thing I could do for him (if I really loved him): give him time to grow up and meet me as equals, if not in years, then at least, intellectually and emotionally.
And if he changed his mind by then, that would be fine with me, too.

He remembers Jun. But he feels uncomfortable broaching the topic here. But Jun finally remembers when he saw the leather medicine pill holder.
Ha! That’s actually the REAL secret that the Doc is hiding. His medical condition. How serious is it?
I like that, after thinking about this overnight, Jun “mans” up and talks to Doc about it. The Doc here acts like the mature man.
Jun: I don’t think I’m obligated to give you any reasons. Will you tell my parents that I’m here?
Doc: Well, I’m not sure if I need to go that far. But I guess hat could change depending on the situation. If I contact your parents will you run away again.
I like that the Doc is seeing the whole picture. He doesn’t want Jun, a minor, to run away. He’s acting like a guardian.
Doc: I really don’t know what happened to you. But all things aside, I think you should tell Rara the truth. That you’re a high schooler. What you’re doing is deception. You’re telling lies, and hiding the truth to fool someone. It’s more hurtful than anything else. It destroys one’s good faith in the world.
Thumbs up, Doc! Not only that. His lies and Jun’s lies are different in their potential to hurt Rara. Jun’s lies will hurt Rara more because it’s obvious that Rara is more attached to him than to the Doc.

Eldest is a little bit taller than hubby now but youngest is fast in catching up to them at 13. I haven’t noticed any growth spurt for eldest. 😊 I noticed youngest’s growth spurt more because there were a lot of times when he was worried that he’s not growing tall enough. Now he always teases me and calls me shorty. 😏
The bag Rara made for Jun. It had a bike sticker. A hot air balloon sticker? Why? A rainbow.
A yellow ribbon. A tag that says, “Be You.”
And “The Best” sticker.
It would be funny if he brought this around with him. He’d really look like a kid.

In her imagination, he’s yelling, “You’ll pay for this! YOu’ll pay for this. I’m going to get back at you!”
b. Is he upset because I didn’t clean properly today?
She imagines him grousing, “I told you to clean! You little…”
Her answer: No, he should be used to it by now.
So — she expects him to “get used” to the idea that she isn’t going to clean. I like that. So his daily nagging, like that notes he leaves for her, is meant to be a sign of affection.
c. Last, she worries that he doesn’t really mean it when he said that she could pay him back later.
Then, she imagines him hitting her, “Gu Rara. I want my money back. Pay me back.”
The thing is, I’ve seen this actor act crazy, mean and threatening. He’s good too when he’s in a killer mode. I’m looking forward to his confrontation with the stalker.
I’m seriously considering learning a few easy songs on the piano after watching DYLB and this one. 😁 easy meaning I’ll memorise where to put my fingers on. 😁

With my sons, when I see them being protective of their GFs, and thoughtful, and so on, I’m happy. That tells me that they’re growing up because they’re thinking of somebody else other than themselves.
Rara is so worried about him that she searches for him at his work, asked Grandpa if he’s seen him and she does find him.
But she thought she was the reason that he might have to disappear in the future.

I laughed when Grandpa Kim said that all he could see what “bean sprouts.” That so true! The musical notes do look like bean sprouts: The round beans and the stems sticking out of the beans.
Rara was funny when she was thinking of the reasons why Jun didn’t respond to her message. 😁 In a way it shows that she already knows Jun too. 😊

That’s such a teen thing to do! Runaway from home.
They run away because:
a: there’s real or perceived mistreatment by parent of the teenager
b. they feel overwhelmed by personal problems
c. they feel powerless and unable to exercise their will, choice over a situation
d. they feel misunderstood
e. they want attention
f. there’s no real parent-child communication
g. and so on.
After learning the background story of Jun’s problems, I can see how his running away is a typical coping mechanism of a teenager.

Rara: (nodding) You didn’t text back, and your phone’s off.
HA! Remember when Jun searched for her when she left Hayoung’s house? She wasn’t running away then. She was returning to his house but she got lost. Back then, he accused her of turning off his phone. And she replied that no, her phone battery died. The way she answered — it didn’t occur to her to turn off her cellphone. Like, why on earth would anybody do that?
And here, we have Jun turning off his phone deliberately because he didn’t want to be contacted. I can understand Rara’s worry.
Rara: (continuing) Is something going on? Come on. You can tell me.
Their situation reversed. He’s the one who used to ask her if something was going on. Like when she lost her job offer and didn’t want to tell him.
Yup, he was thinking of running away again but Rara’s look of sadness and her messages and miss calls stopped him. That’s young love. ☺️
Ah yes, so true! Rara definitely feels guilty of those reasons. 😁
The mom will be probably be happy to get him back. Sort of the “prodigal son” returning.
The father? Nope. I don’t see him agreeing to Rara. Unless…
Unless Rara regains her family’s company. Oh dear. How can she do that now? I was counting on Jun being a secret chaebol/corporate guy who’ll help her expose the secretary’s bad business dealings. hahaha.

I don’t think my sons threatened to run away.
I know one of my brothers did. He ran away and caused such an uproar.
Me? I ran away for…like a weekend. A couple of times. The first time, I went to New York. I knew the city and I had a place to stay at; I wasn’t homeless or something. But after watching a show, visiting a museum, and eating in Chinatown, I decided that I was ready to go home. lol.
Technically, it wasn’t “running away.” It was more like, “Let me take a break.”
So this runaway thing of Jun, I think he’ll come around soon. He just lost it temporarily. Their family should get counseling. His family couldn’t be altogether bad if he turned out good.

I think that would be very very mean (almost sadistic) of the dad to pretend that he was dead all this time.

Knowing how much he loved Rara, I don’t think he would allow Rara to suffer thinking that he died, and to go through the pain of living alone without a backup plan in place, like having the Ms. Gong the piano teacher around.

I run away once, like I was out for 1 hour sitting in a park. 😂 because my sisters didn’t want to help me clean. 🤪 I was only 15 and my Uncle found me and he said to me to not do it again because I’m a girl and it’s not safe. I can’t even remember how I was when I went home. My parents weren’t home at that time.
I know, right?
I like how the child noticed everything.
Rara said, “He always comes in looking sour. Then he grabs some water and gulps it down.”
Ah! When Jun walked in, she tried to ask nonchalantly, “Oh! You’re home?” But she’d been eagerly waiting for him to come home. Like Mimi.
Then the prodigy Jaemin corrected her. “That’s not true. First he just trudges. Once hears the piano, he walks faster and faster uphill. Then he runs. Once he arrives in front of the academy, he takes a deep breath. He wipes off the sweat and tidies his hair. Then he pretends like nothing happened and opens the door.”
Although we saw Jun in action, it felt good to know that Rara discovered from a third party, how Jun actually behaved before he walked in that door.

One thing is liked about this Ep was their talk, when Jun assured Rara he wouldn’t leave. And when he paused I think Rara’s heart would have been thumping instead. 😏 Seeing them communicate this way has been so refreshing compared to the forced conversations we’ve been getting in RoY.
Wrt playing piano, go for it @agdr! This show has inspired me to start playing again too. Printed Mozart’s twinkle and slowly struggling through. Fingers are stiff from years of not playing.
Regarding boys’ heights, oh gosh I’m looking forward to the day my oldest becomes taller than me. Both hubs and I are on the petite side so I always worry my boys will be short. Any tips? Heh.

Now, I don’t get this question. Did he really think that his parents didn’t care that he disappeared? Is he feeling sorry for himself? Did he think nobody would care if he disappeared?
Rara: I’d be sad.
Jun: I see.
Rara: Why? Why do you want to disappear out of the blue?
I think for Rara, it’s an unthinkable idea. For one, even when she was stressed out, her father was there to support her. Remember what she learned in Episode 1. That it was okay to make mistakes and her father loved her no matter what. For another, she had music. That’s what Ms. Gong told her. Whenever life comes hard at her, she should play the piano and listen to music.
Jun unfortunately didn’t have her upbringing.
Jun: Somebody’s being troublesome.
Here, I think he was thinking like a teenager. This is a sign of immaturity right there.
Rara: (thinking to herself) Could it be me? (aloud) Is it that easy for you to move just because there’s someone who annoys you?
Jun: Yes. That’s how I am.

I like their whole conversation when Jun says ‘I’ll be by your side’. With matching eye blinks and that reassurance that he won’t leave AND stay by her side.
It’s all about the excuse of not leaving each other behind, the debt and the produce.

Gosh. When I type it down as is, Rara appears clingy, and cringe-y. But when I watch it instead, Rara looks earnest and appealing.
And there goes Jun again. He’s gone all serious, waiting for her to say something cough. cough. romantic. He’s hanging on to every word. Doesn’t he ever learn? She’s not going to say, “I love you, Jun.” Not yet.
Rara: I haven’t paid you back yet. I’m sure you already know but I hate being indebted to others. So you better not go anywhere until I pay you back. And those. The lettuce and romaine. Who’ll be in charge of growing all of them? Were you going to make me do it?
Jun’s blinking again. He must be thinking, “There she goes again. So random!”
Jun: Oh. I forgot about them. I completely forgot about them.
Rara: (looking annoyed) I knew it! The poor seedlings.
Jun: Rara.
Rara: Mmm?
Jun: I won’t disappear. I’ll be by your side.
That’s it! This is a step towards maturity. I like Lee Jaewook’s voice here.
And note the reverse here: Rara holds her breath wondering if he’s about to confess something big. And Jun pays her back in her own coin. He jokes.
Jun: Because my money is precious. I’m going to make sure you pay me back.
For me, there are so many ways to interpret this.
1. He means money literally. But I don’t think he really cares about money. But he wants her to think that he’s just talking about money.
2. She’s “his money.” She’s precious to her.
3. She’s his “money pit” that is, she’s a drain on his finances. But he doesn’t mind.
4. She’s his “investment.” He’s staying because he’s invested and investing on them.
Rara: I’m not going to bilk you. Serious I’m not.
Jun: Do you even know the sum?
Rara: Of course.
Of course, she doesn’t.
True, it may very well be Rara because of his attachment to her.
The scene was funny when they we’re waiting for DDSSLLS. 😁 But Jun dressed formally too but we couldn’t see him in the group.
Haha @packmule I was outside when I decided to run off. So I had no money, no extra clothes, not even snacks… see why I had to sheepishly head home after an hour?
Regarding grandpa talking about the music notes looking like beansprouts, it made me smile. It might be an Asian cultural thing? Since beansprouts feature a lot in some asian cuisines like in Korea. Back when I was in band, we would judge the difficulty of a piece by the number of beansprouts a song had, as well as the number of tails each sprout had. The higher the number, the harder the song, because of all the running notes.
Hmm definitely clean undies! That’s probably my number 1 on the list. 😂 Money second.
Regarding the identity of DDSSLLS, I’m thinking it’s complicated now because his watch (assuming the well-dressed man is DD) turned up on the dead body. It could be that:
1. DD’s watch was stolen and planted on the body along with Jun’s ID. Or
2. The real DD’s dead, and the person Rara meets is an imposter. In this case the stalker might be the killer since he prints photos of Rara off her gram and would definitely read the comments left by DD.
DD seems slightly stockier so Doc might be a possibility, the other one with such a build is the ex fiancée but he doesn’t seem to know where Rara is so I guess it shouldn’t be him?
I like that he talked to the Doctor that night he told Rara that he was going to stay. He figured out a way to deal with the Doctor.
He said that they both had secrets so they were to decide themselves when the right time was to reveal their secrets to Rara.
I thought that was a good gentleman’s agreement. They weren’t going to sabotage each other. They were going to play fair.
But it was funny when Doc came over that weekend to take out Rara. Jun didn’t like that. And he jumped in to spoil Doc’s date.
Good thing that Doc was good-natured about the whole team tagging on his date with Rara. AND that he ended up sitting in the middle. Jun sat next to Rara blocking him out.
Yes! I liked his voice when he said I’ll stay by your side, even the delivery of the line was good. ☺️ I like it when he gets stumped whenever he thinks Rara was going to say something heart fluttering. 😂
Oh yeah, Rara was holding with bated breath as to what Jun will say. She thought it was heart fluttering too. 😂

I thought that RaRa’s dad died in the hospital with RaRa present in her wedding dress? He received chest compressions and defib. I agree he doesn’t seem the type to leave her alone. There have been real life cases, certainly, of people who faked their deaths and escaped debt or collected insurance, but I don’t think this is likely here, unless done by the secretary type.
I wonder how the stalker topic and the secretary topic will come together. I wonder how RaRa will find out about Jun. I think that the troublesome person could be either Doc or the goon. Do you think Jun recognised him?
@packmule3, I agree that few 18 year old people are ready for a permanent relationship. The age difference would be less of a problem the older both people are. Having said that, when I went away to University, I met or knew of people who married during or just after high school (US). It seemed like a vast cultural divide.

During our time, Fern, yes, nobody thought it was strange to pledge to marry at 18, 19, and so on.
The pinning ceremonies in fraternities were treated like an engagement. But nowadays? there’s a — forgive me when I say this — stigma if kids marry young. It’s as if they didn’t have a wider opportunity or didn’t have a career choice or they were poor or they came from broken or dysfunctional families, etc., They would be seen as marrying to get out of their world. That’s the social stigma of teenage marriage.

@packmule yes I noticed the green trim too. Perhaps it’s the change in lighting as most of the other scenes of the shoes were taken in dim light. The photographer might be the stalker but his build seems too slight to be DD. Actually DD really looked like Rara’s dad in some scenes. Perhaps he faked his death but was held hostage and couldn’t go to Rara after, but I think that’s gonna make the whole story way too messy!
@Fern I’m wondering if secretary had something to do with the body. When I was doing the timeline it seemed like the timing of the dumping of the body coincided with the time secretary was out at sea in the yacht.

@JT7, I wondered about the secretary, too. Because he was hanging out at sea and that may not be a random coincidence.
I thought that in Jun’s phone calls and conversations with RaRa he’s trying hard not to sound or act like a boyfriend because he doesn’t want his feelings to be known. I mean, I think he would like to respond according to his feelings but he feels that the time or circumstances are wrong. That’s why when RaRa says ‘don’t go because I owe you money’, he will say the same back to her. It’s part shyness, part insecurity about her reciprocating and part because he’s now constantly aware of his deception. He’s teasing her a bit, too, when he asks her about the current tab. 😉

I think LJW is more attractive when he’s intense and serious than when he’s goofy.
He played the druggie killer, Marco, in “Memories of Alhambra” convincingly.
He played the second lead in “Extraordinary You” so well. But I just can’t watch EY again. Rooyoon (or whatever his name was) is good-looking (okay, I know he got some plastic surgery done). But his acting left me clenching my uterus…in a bad way. It’s like I wanted to give birth to a real actor. lol.
I mentioned earlier that LJW would make a great tragic swordsman in a historical drama.
As for fingercracking, I never do it. I cringe when I see other people doing it before playing the piano.
