Happy Thanksgiving to those who are celebrating it tomorrow. As of tonight (Wednesday) my hubby and I have already cooked, eaten, and cleaned up our Thanksgiving meal. We’d planned to observe it on Thursday, but high winds are expected tomorrow afternoon and evening in the mountain community where our cabin is located, and we received notice today from our power company that they may shut off our electricity to prevent lines from sparking and starting a fire.
After our nice meal tonight we started watching the Bollywood movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, recommended by several people in another BoD thread. We’ll finish it tomorrow, if we have electricity. We were amused by the St. Xavier’s College setting, because that’s the alma mater of my husband’s oldest brother.
I thought I’d mention that while waiting to wrap up DDSSLLS and TOTNT, I’ve started to watch an older drama: Misaeng. I am loving it!
@Welmaris Misaeng was the best. I loved SiWan. The whole crew was fab. SoRa as well. And the story was just great. Nothing extraordinary but just very well told. I binged it whilst in Fiji. I was so desperate to watch it that I would hang out in the one spot that had WiFi on the island to download 1 episode (it took me ages 😂 because the download speed was so slow) and then head back to the villa to watch it. Yes the things we do. I remember hubby just rolled his eyes when I would hang back after breakfast just to download it.

Happy Thanksgiving! Loved your idea of doing it ahead of time in case you don’t have electricity tomorrow. We also had a mini-Thanksgiving yesterday. Just hubby, sons and their girlfriends. Instead of the usual turkey fare, we went with the Korean menu this year. Thanks, Kdrama!!!

How did the table top cooking work? I’m curious about ‘health and safety’ aspects. I already would expect it to be messy, especially given my crew. I think I could buy a grill here, but probably not rent one.

Haha, @old_geologist. It did enter my head to post Subway and BBQ Olive Chicken but I was afraid I was going to confuse MYSELF with the answers. Happy Thanksgiving!
It went surprisingly well. I had the glass placed on the table and then I put the tablecloth on top for the festive look. I ordered the Rosewill induction electric burners. One for each end of the table. The burner came with its own pot (the handles didn’t get hot, so that was good). My hubby doesn’t like spicy things so one pot had the spicy broth and the other pot had the regular broth. I guess, Amazon was also selling a pot with a divider but I didn’t purchase it anymore.
For the Korean BBQ Grill, I got the TEChef grills with the portable butane gas. They look just like the ones in the kdramas!!! They came with the nonstick pans. There was a small hole in the side for the oil dripping.
I gave the kids and their GFs aprons. But it didn’t splatter as I thought it would. They had fun. It was good, too, that one of the GFs is Korean-American. 🙂

My country does not celebrate this but I think it is a great idea to have a special time to be grateful. This and Jewish Passover are a great idea, if you ask me 😉 .
Hope to read you all soon, to be honest I have lagged behind with “Tales of the Nine Tailed” and over-cheerful (aegyo) Suzy kind of ruined me “Start-Up” right at episode 3.

I’m giving thanks for a happy and safe environment and the great privilege of preparing children for the Sacraments. Fittingly the Eucharist comes from ‘eucharistein’, (as you know), the Greek for ‘thanksgiving’. So I guess my ‘Thanksgiving’ continues for the next 9-10 days, until the children receive their first Holy Communion. Thanks be to God!

@packmule3, oneof the GFs is Korean-American? That must have inspired you to do well; it sounds like an creative and potentially tricky meal. I’m glad that it went well. The piece of glass for protection is a good idea and I’m guessing that it didn’t trigger the smoke detector. 😅
Have you ever discussed dramas with the GF? I would have been bursting but I know you are trying to keep your sons unaware. 🤭
Fern, with two grills, my hubby was sure we’d trigger the smoke detector and/or the whole dining room would end up smelling of barbecue. So he opened a couple of windows.
But no, nothing like that happened. The hot grill didn’t sizzle and smoke (like in the restaurants) when the meat was dropped on it.
I did have lots of fun organizing the trays. I had a meat and salmon trays, veggie trays (lol, the lettuce wraps didn’t get eaten though), and then the trays with udon, dumplings, fish balls and the hot pot stuff.
Yes, GF is K-A. But no, kdrama didn’t come up. 😂 There was no opportunity to bring up the topic. And it would have looked awkward (and perhaps a bit racist?) if I were to ask her about kdramas out of the blue because she’s of Korean descent. Do you know what I mean? 😂 It’s like asking an American-born Chinese if he watches Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan movies. 😈 I must wait till he opens up about his viewing habits before I become inquisitive.

@agdr03 I just read about The Uncanny Counter (I find the title weird but I think they are Counters, although at this stage I don’t know what that means) and I am going to start watching it. There are 3 episodes up already. I seem to be in the mood for the supernatural good vs evil sort of show, hopefully with much warmth and heart as well. Preferably something not too dark and in line with the spirit of Christmas?!?
