What do I do with this guy?

He’s on my original list of “Top Idol Actors,” but I can’t seem to like his latest projects, “Strangers from Hell,” and “Run On.”
For me, one of the tests of a good actor is his silence.
Spoken words, like body movements, make it easy for viewers to understand the character. But when the actor is stripped of words and actions, and has to be silent and motionless, the viewers are forced to pay attention to his eyes, nose, cheekbones, mouth, cheeks, jaws for a glimpse of his character’s mental and emotional processes.
Things that I usually observe: Did his pupils dilate? Did he blink? Did he frown? Did his nose flare? Did his cheekbones tighten? Did he curl his lip? Did he show contempt or wry amusement? Did he chew on a cheek? Did he square his jaw? Did a facial muscle twitch?
You see that? A good facial expression should come standard in any good actor’s toolkit.
But what separates a good actor from a great actor is his intensity. It’s not enough that he displayed the right facial expressions; I want to see that intensity in his silence. That’s why I like Siwan. Simply put, he’s got intensity. Even if he’s standing there like a rock, I know that he isn’t a statue.
Except for kisses…he can’t do kisses. Intense, my foot.
By special request (just this once, @LeeDale9198!), I’m going to open this thread for him. Go ahead, post the news you want to share here, @LeeDale9198.
Some house rules, though. No oppa-ing allowed. 🙂
So far in Run On we got two kisses oh wait sorry I meant two peck 🤭
I loved him in Misaeng and he was the lifeline in getting me over the first few episodes (tough to watch due to the toxic office environment) and eventually finish the series.
He was perfect for that role and I was with him through the roller coaster of emotions on his journey.
I was excited for Run On but I dropped before seeing the second kiss/peck. There’s something in the story, the cast, the acting that does not connect with me (made me fall asleep several times, too!). Just like Record of Youth, good to look at but bland to my taste.
I’ve only ever watched him in Misaeng which was a wonderful office slice of life show. I was so emotionally engaged in the ups and downs that befell his Jang Gurae. It’s a pity if his other projects are not so ‘easy’ to watch and to follow through until the end.
Among the idol actors whom I consider good actors are Im Shi Wan, Jung Eun Ji, Lee Joon Ho … there are more but I can’t recall at the moment.
@GB
Is it Jun-ho from 2PM he was on Wok of Love and Just Between Lovers. He’s one of my fave.
I’m still watching Misaeng-I watch an episode here and there because it brings me back to that office grind and office politics that was so oppressive. But it’s an important work so eventually I’ll see it through.
I like this actor and the drama too. When I worked, I ran a community service program and one of our most important jobs was to clean up the start area of the NYC Marathon (acre upon acre of debris). The job was tough but one perk was getting up close to some world class runners. So I’ve had an interest in the sport ever since
This show is about shirt distance runners but they do a good job with background.
The other thing I like about it is that they give translators a platform. I love that k dramas have interesting plotlines about professions that we don’t know about. I love our female lead’s explanations of her choices doing live and written translations-hiw she decides what to say and leave out.
And Siwan is very charismatic. Even as you so well point out, his silences and his reactions draw one in. When my son was in high school he took an English course called Drama English. The class was paired up with scene partners and they had to present regularly. It was a great course for my socially awkward teen ager and perfect for a kid on the spectrum. When he was memorizing I ran lines with him. He learned active listening in this course and it has stood him in good stead ever since. Of course there were funny times like when he found shouting “Stella”to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. But he learned so much about human interaction in that course. And, for me, I found new appreciation for good acting. Thank you for showing how the silent times are so meaningful.
I’m with @Old American Lady in that my first interest in this was track because my daughter is a sprinter, and secondly for translation/interpretation because I studied languages. The sport connection is good although the discipline/bullying tradition is hard to watch.
The translation makes me appreciate more than ever those who provide English subs so quickly for our benefit, and also the reasons why sometimes there are two or more rather different translations of the same phrase.
But the translation theme goes beyond languages to interpersonal communication between people. Im Siwan’s character communicates awkwardly and he and the other leads spend a lot of time trying to understand each other. In one charged scene, the FL tells him to forget her, but he says he won’t because her comments to him were meaningful even if she was insincere. Sometimes, although she is the translator, he is the one working harder to understand. He says he learned a lot from her. She thinks he means some technical terms and slang, but it goes deeper.
I’m a bit mesmerised by this drama. I don’t know that it’s only Siwan, but he’s one reason. I haven’t seen him before and at first glance, he’s not my type. But he is very good. I wouldn’t like it as well if each of the 4 leads weren’t all so off-beat in their own ways. I think it is well cast.
@Old American Lady, I often have thought that if I had a female dog, I would call her Stella. What fun to shout! Most wouldn’t understand why, though.
I have been watching this because well it was one of the new dramas on Netflix. This is the first show I am watching of Im Siwan…and yes he is very intriguing here. In his silences I can watching him really thinking and that pregnant pause is captivating.
Run On is growing on me and I am loving it because of the conversations. I watched or read somewhere that it was how the characters interpret each other. And like FL’s job of translation, everyone has a different interpretation of the same thing. Many things get lost in translation, even in the same language. I would say Im Siwan’s character in RunOn is awkward and as other characters say of him, “boring”. Maybe because he pauses before he says anything, like you can hear those gears in his brain working hard thinking.
I loved his confession in the recent episode.
“Your affection for me gives me meaning and value. But I wasn’t sure if you had feelings for me the same way I do about you.
I wonder if you also want to hold my hand, hug me and kiss me. I wasn’t quite sure of that. Because I do. Please don’t hate me.”
Funniest thing, I found myself asking why I’m watching this drama (Run On) just last week! I concluded it was because of Im Siwan and his intensity like you said. There really is something about him! It’s in the smallest gestures; his silence, a face twitch, the narrowing of his eyes. He’s too pretty to be my type but I love staring at his face 😂 I think he plays (socially) awkward characters really well. Characters that if played by less able actors would fall so flat.
Tbh I watch this as background noise and only really pay attention when Im Siwan is on the screen. There’s something very “different” (for a lack of a better word) about the flow of dialogue in this drama that makes me giggle. Not because it’s funny per se but because I’m perplexed at what emotion I’m actually suppose to be feeling so I laugh and don’t take it too seriously.
I agree with @Old American Lady, I like that the characters of the show aren’t the typical lawyer, doctor, police, celeb we see in most dramas. It’s interesting to learn about something different; especially with how Korea culture is becoming so popular in the west, translating must be on the rise as a career path.
Haven’t seen “Strangers from hell” but a friend watched it and said she enjoyed it.
How you feel about Im Siwan is my sentiment toward Ji Chang Wok! I feel like he is one of the strongest actor amongst his peers but ever since he came back from enlistment he had made very poor choices in dramas. Watched 3 episodes of Lovestruck in the city and I’m not too invested in continuing. Melting Me Softly and Backstreet rookie are dramas I only gave 2 episodes and for various reasons have erased their existence from my mind 😒
@grace what you said about how the conversations being how they interpret each other makes sense! I couldn’t quite pinpoint what it was about the dialogue I found different! It also seems like they are speaking faster than usual and it’s very “back and forth”. Might watch a few interviews actually!
Yes to all the comments above and of course to Packmule’s post about Im SiWan. I loved him in Misaeng and that was it. I tried to hunt down his movies but I couldn’t find them online with subs. None of his projects post Misaeng hit home for me. And I kept waiting for his next offering. Run On I started for him but the FL annoyed me so much (and the story seemed a bit weak) so I couldn’t get past Ep1.
@Ella JunHo was brilliant in Just Between Lovers. I also adored Won JinAh in that. I really enjoyed that drama. Sadly her drama with JCW was just…a train wreck. Melting Me Softly. In fact it was because of MMS that I decided to watch WJA in something else. I noticed how she shone in scenes in the first few episodes of MMS which required her to emote and connect with her autistic brother. So I asked around to see what other “serious” dramas she had been in before. Someone recommended Just Between Lovers and the rest is history.
@Esst3 yes to JCW. He was brilliant in Healer with PMY. K2 was okay…but it lost me in the end? It just made very little sense. And it didn’t help that the younger YoonA was eclipsed by the older YoonAh. I am not one for Noona romances but man whenever the older YoonAh was in scenes with JCW the sexual tension was off the charts. I still remember the umbrella scene with her as he marched her out of the basement with the sprinklers on. 😂. Backstreet Rookie I didn’t even bother to start. Same with Lovestruck in the City.
Btw @packmule3, KyungSoo is out of the military. On home leave. Officially finished 21Jan (?). I am looking forward to his next offering. It’s a movie. Something about an astronaut. Hopefully his next drama selection would be something worthy of reviewing.
I’m currently watching Misaeng–hoping to wrap up the final two episodes tonight–and have been drawn in by Siwan’s acting. The whole show is a great ensemble piece. I’m trying to decide what to start next: Run On to see Siwan in a different role, or Start-Up, which I missed when everyone else was watching and posting about it.
I am also watching Lovestruck in the City. It’s an easy watch, because each episode is only half an hour. I like seeing Ji Chang Wook in a romantic role, expanding beyond the action genre. Yes, there are problems with LITC that annoy me, but not enough to turn me away. I don’t buy the FL’s reasoning for dropping out of the relationship she started during her working vacation: that she was an entirely different person in that setting than she is at home in Seoul. Yes, travel challenges us, allows us to try new things, causes some people to loosen up and others to become uptight, but I don’t believe the core of a person is overridden when they’re taken out of a familiar environment. Travel can change us through augmentation (such as adopting a new perspective) or reduction (such as letting go of prejudices), but I’m not believing her being at a surf resort split her personality so completely that her sensible Seoul self didn’t exist at the beach, and the playful person she was at the beach isn’t still part of her in Seoul.
One thing I am enjoying about LITC is that the characters (except one of the females), and I’d like to think the actors themselves, are often shown enjoying each others’ company: eating together, playing games, chatting, etc. I’m able to live vicariously through them during lockdown isolation.
@Welmaris @esst @nrllee
I didn’t originally want to watch Start-Up as I feared a lack of time (and generally the actors didn’t enthuse me in their previous outings), and from the number of posts out on this show, I was right in thinking that watching, reading, posting etc would have drained me at that time when it was airing. I’m a bit better for time now, but again, I may suddenly get busy again.
However dear @Welmaris, do feel free to join us for the Start-Up watch/re-watch on tonight at 15:00 UTC. We will start with Episode 1 so that everyone will be watching the premise and the background to the complicated situation that drives the plot.
I’m also watching Lovestruck in the City. I did like JCW since Healer although he’s not been in anything remarkable since. He’s an okay actor and is dorky as his real and natural self.
I find myself on the fence about the premise of this show. It depicts quite unhealthy attitudes in modern, ‘urban’ couple relationships more than healthy ones. I don’t agree that just having one’s own opinion and judgement about what’s due in a couple relationship, or about what’s true, gives one party to treat the other party shabbily and without respect. I’m thinking of the overly rude and entitled Oh Seon Yeong and how she strips her ex-bfs of everything she gifted them. It says a lot about her lack of ability to care and give. But she’s held up as a girl-crush or someone other girls look up to in dating. *eye roll*
I agree that the FL’s reasons for her horrendous treatment of the ML are too insufficient and sound so false. I feel that she’s lying to herself, and dragged the poor guy into it when he was so sincere, and even now she is not truly repentant. I find her selfish and cruel and don’t think that just because she admits that she’s horrible, it excuses her or that we should approve that she moves on without giving the ML the closure he needs, and not just the closure she decides is enough for him.
By rights in RL, I will advise strongly against a relationship with a person like her. In kdrama, we know that we are supposed to root for their reconciliation. Until she can ‘grow up’ and put others first, it is unwise for her to get into any relationships that require full commitment.
Yes, about the camaraderie of the friends and how it’s nice to watch it now that we can’t do the same.
Well, this is actually Im Shi Wan’s corner so it’s back to him, and hoping to watch him in something else that makes good use of his strong, silent presence, while not annoying us with other aspects of the show.
Fast note on Ji Chang Wook-he did a wonderful job in Empress Ki that required him to be an action star, do comic relief, tragedy, madness and romance. It was an early role and he held his own with the likes of HabJin Wan.
And the female lead in Lovestruck In The City, according to the dialogue stated that she was trying out a different personality style (or words like it), taking off some months to test out the water so to speak. She needed her job at the bar to live out the lifestyle that was very free wheeling. My take on her return to Seoul and her true identity was that her false intimacy is was frightening to her and that she had painted herself into a corner. The show certainly established that she had her regrets. However given that the male protagonists seem to be given more angst and sympathy in this show, the female characters, to me, get short shrift and even some antipathy, especially where the gift stripper was concerned.
Wait!!! Life got me 😂😃.
Thanks @packmule3 for answering my request 😍.
I just wanted to share Siwan’s latest happening: the long most awaited KISS! https://www.instagram.com/p/CKDL4vfH2YL/?igshid=1oo9dp3s1bqcs
Siwan fans should have known we haven’t got a kissing scene from him until recently. It’s kinda like he has some sort of no kissing clause. So to see him having kissing scene/s now is huge! Well, supposed to be!
But what in the world was that kiss?!?! I don’t consider it a peck even 🤣🤣🤣.
So yes haha lol. I’m not really that huge fan of him; just a casual viewer who likes him I would say. I’m not really that huge of a fangirl to actors, I’d leave my oppa-ing to my idols 😁😄.
@Packmule3 and others, do we want or need a separate thread on Lovesick in the City? Tonight’s episode (8) led me to feel a variety of emotions. JCW gave the best interpretation of kajima I’ve seen in a Kdrama: quiet, but from deep in his soul. Brought tears to my eyes, and made me want to hate the FL (but not the actress, because she was playing well the role written for her). I also wanted to cheer at the end because the FL got some of what’s due her, yet JCW looked distraught by what he set in motion.
Wait wait 😄 @Ella we have 2 pecks already?
Gotta go find that 2nd peck (or less than a peck I’d say)
@Leedale – the first kiss was ep2! 😮 The link you posted is kiss #2 in ep10 (I stopped watching at ep8).
Mr. No Kiss did it again 🤣 like Janey said the first kiss (peck) happened in Ep2 and the second kiss (peck) was in Ep10.
With the way they promote the lead couple I thought RunOn will break the mold for Im Si-wan and we will get a proper kiss lol..
I was laughing so hard during the second peck 🤦🏻♀️
I actually enjoy RunOn, I think it’s the characterization because the plot is threadlike and the progress is snail-like. The fashion is gorgeous.
WHAT! OMG!
Knowing the first kiss scene I saw of him was actually the 2nd one is even crazier. Siwan is indeed our Mr. No Kiss man!
He should’ve had given her a kiss back then if it was the 2nd instance. But no! He just sat there, like nothing happened at all 😂🤣😂🤣😂 oh my goodness 😆.
Should I expect for a proper kiss when this drama ends? Or I guess the crew would do their earnest on using the best camera tricks on their sleeves for the leads to have a “proper kiss scene”?!
Also I’m laughing out loud because so many people on my timeline are raving about their chemistry and how they’re tweeting “Are you sure they’re not dating?!?” because the leads have great couple photos or something. Hahhaa they’re really hoping Siwan-SeKyung is like BinJin 😆. Well, Siwan has to kiss her properly first!
@Janey @Ella ok I just watched the first kiss clip.
How is the 2nd peck worse than the 1st peck 🤣🤣🤣🤦♀.
Ok they’re no Soohyun and Yeaji so I gonna lower my expectations, but they better kiss properly later.
@LeeDale9198
It’s not a surprise because they’re photoshoot and bts are actually better than the drama itself hahahaaa.. They’re sweet and play each other well.
That’s one of the reason for my expectation as well on the main couple lol..
Hey Ladies,
I want to watch Run on, but I didn’t have time.
I haven’t encountered Siwan before… He has something though, from some trailers out of context I have seen. I cannot fathom yet!
As for Ji Chang Wook, we have started watching The K2, but after Healer and Park Min Young the OTP of the series is weak, imo.
I like he Female Antagonist much better. Their interactions are way much better. I think it has to do with the fact that Song Yoon-ah is way better actress than Im Yoon-ah.
As for LITC, I have already watched the first episode. Most of people, we talked about to the gr forum, have a problem with the format. I don’t.
There are so many series to watch:
I am between Nine.
Kill me, Heal me ( Ji Sung is a versatile actor -yes Yoo-na makes my day when she says: the forbidden word, Oppa… )
And Faith.
P.S. If I could meet a specific someone (*grins*) I wouldn’t call him Oppa, for some reason I just can’t. Sunbae is way better…
@LeeDale9198 I agree typically he would have kissed back after she did on the kiss no.2 but he didn’t. Actually it looked like he savoured it, paused to think of it. When he said “Can I keep doing it?” I thought it was referring to the kiss but he meant to keep liking her. It did look a little like those fish eyed kiss when the ML kisses the shocked FL. (that happened on kiss no.1…but he was drunk then and probably didn’t remember)
Anyway you all got me interested in ImSiwan’s other shows whose name I can’t get used to cos I have a girl friend called Siwan.
Sure, @ Welmaris. I can open a thread on “Lovesick in the City.” But you may have to lead the discussion — or “curate” the thread — because I won’t be watching the kdrama. I’ve limited time for now with work and all….
Tell me you’re okay with that, and I’ll open it for you.
Ref Run On: My daughter came home from a 1 to 1 sprint practice with her coach. -Can’t go to the track because of Covid, so trained on a very squelchy, muddy football pitch on the edge of town. She came home with one of those weight sledges the athletes used in Run On early episodes. Funny coincidence.
I think about the translation theme a lot in real life, especially now that we’re all using email and mediums like this to communicate, sometimes entirely, with certain people. There are many ways to write something, but how to express it in the way you would want the recipient/s to interpret it can take a lot of finesse. I’ve been caught out a couple of times when I was flip, hurried or not thinking in the dialect. For example, at work, we are communicating with an auditor. I have to be extra careful that I am interpreting his queries correctly and responding both accurately but also with the correct consideration or manners used in this country.
Newbie here. This blog feeds my new found obsession with korean dramas. Thank you! Run On is just so interesting for all the reasons that have been discussed above. 1) The art of interpretation (I remember that interpreter Sharon Choi became a bit of a celebrity herself for her work interpretations for Director Bong Joon-Ho during awards season); 2) Extreme competiveness/physical discipline and role of hierarchy in Korean national sports; 3) Social awkwardness/extreme introversion played perfectly by Siwan. I find his character so frustrating which is how those around him react to him as well. The scene that sold me overall was the one between his character and his mother in Episode 8 when she offers her support/apologizes for neglectful parenting – with just a few swallows and movement of his eyes he processes what she is saying.
Guess who else is in Im SiWan’s corner? The new IT man is making a cameo appearance.
https://www.soompi.com/article/1449673wpp/kim-seon-ho-confirmed-to-make-special-appearance-in-run-on
@nrllee thanks for the links and the information. I was wondering whether actors who make a cameo appearance get paid or whether they do it as a favour for their PD friends. I just googled it and found this post written by Roman Bazhan.
“The amount is a subject of negotiations and based on many factors, with one of those being personal interest of the actor/actress.
Their appearance dictated by effort to raise low commercial value of the project? Expect to see high price tag for that.
Actors returning favor / making it for fun / being a fans of the source material / chance to work with someone they dreamed to work / any other good reason? Expect to see low price tag, dropping almost to zero.”
I’m just being curious about whether Kim Seon Ho will be doing this out of friendship or loyalty because he debuted with the PD. 😉
@GB I get the feeling he’s doing it out of good will. Unless it’s his agency who did the negotiations. He strikes me as kinda clueless and gullible (from 2D1N). With a good heart. So despite his 34years I feel like he’s not very street savvy and is easy to take advantage of. It’s this goofiness (and naivety) that endears him to legions of female fans who are quick to take his side and bat down every negative comment or remark thrown at him.
He’s actually been named in 2 dramas – he’s “considering” them. One is Link – Moon GaYoung is also named in this drama. The premise sounds odd. Although Lee JaeWook has also been named in this drama and if I had to choose between them I would pick LJW.
https://www.soompi.com/article/1449217wpp/moon-ga-young-reportedly-starring-in-new-fantasy-romance-drama
The other is Mr Hong with Shin MinAh (she of the Oh My Venus fame). Which I thought he agreed to do because the article seemed to imply he dropped Link for this.
https://www.soompi.com/article/1444574wpp/kim-seon-ho-in-talks-to-lead-drama-remake-of-rom-com-film
How do I know all this? I am in a chat group with a few girls, 2 of whom became his avid fans recently (after Start Up) and so they just fill the chat room with his news and videos 😂.
Several short comments:
Im Siwan’s kisses were soo chaste-barely there. Seemed like they hearkened back to really early K Dramas.
I like LITC-eposides are short but packed. And looking forward to the K Drama trope if coincidence to play out.
And as to our cameo by Kim Deon Ho, he’s getting great professional advice. His star is on the rise so he needs to be out there because out of sight is out of mind. Cameos are easy aka Park Bo Gum’s cameo in Itaewon Class and make fans go nuts. Kim is doing a play so a quick cameo will not interfere with his performance. Win-win (and potentially he can up his per episode charge). So more power to him.
Kiss rating? 😂 I would say he’s learning fast. 😂. I love the “No Minors” sign on the door in the end… Is “‘come over for ramyeon’ Korean code for ‘let’s get physical?’” 😂
https://twitter.com/iconickdramas/status/1354794211833507840?s=21
Yes
Yes.
Invitation to come in for “ramen” = invitation to “Netflix and chill” = invitation to kiss and make out
I learned about this in “Warm and Cozy.” A Jejudo islander ajumma invited a Seoulite gentleman in for ramen and the man was shocked.
It was also in “Crash Landing on You.” The North Korean lady invited the South Korean man for ramen and the man said she shouldn’t just invite strangers in for ramen.
Catch ya later.
So yes. Ramen isn’t so innocent anymore.
@nrllee
Thanks for that link. I’ve watched nothing else on Run On except that link LOL. To speak the truth, this kiss ie the part after the first 2 pecks, reminded me of the ‘false kissing’ that actors do (I saw this on a variety show). They look like they are kissing but if we could get a close up, the lips are not touching the other lips.
That struck me because there’s no way the camera could get to where we could see his lips. Usually kiss shots are very ‘arranged’ so that the jawlines, head angles, lighting etc look good and can be seen from where the cameras are. And the camera zoom in(s) and sometimes rotation, give us more … ‘ahem’ detail. But not in the case of this Im Shi Wan “No Minors” kiss. 🙂 I’m guessing it might have been the ‘false kiss’. Maybe Im Shi Wan has a ‘no long kiss’ clause in his contract, the way others have a ‘no nudity’ clause???
@nrllee and @packmule 3, I’ll never look at ramen the same again after my exposure to the shared ramen concept inK Dramas. However, manybtimes ramen is just ramen. And I wonder about how much time you must cook and eat ramen because there are so many references to noodles swelling that means that the food is ruined. Ramen seems much more pleasant than coming up to see etchings(who has etchings anyway now). I was at Costco today and noticed that there were lots of displays of products for the lunar new year.Lots of noodles but my eyes were drawn to ramen and my thoughts were definitely erotic. K Drama is making me a dirty old lady…But I’m not quite ready for a support group like K Dramas anonymous….
@Ella, sorry, I only just noticed that you asked me a question way, way up near the top of the thread. Yes, Jun Ho is the same actor in Wok of Love and Just Between Lovers.
About Just Between Lovers … For a show on a young person who grows while suffering many calamities and still retains his humanity and zest for life while forever traumatised, that show wins for me, hands-down. I absolutely was sucked in to his story, and it was due to Jun Ho’s amazing characterisation. When I found out that his roots were not from acting but that he was actually a singer (an idol), my admiration increased.
I see in MyDramaList that he’s still in the army and will be out soon on 20 March, 2021 (Yay!) I hope he gets to do another drama soon.
@Old American Lady, We eat ramen and various version of instant noodles and non-instant noodles, and depending on the noodle (dense or more porous?) one may have to eat some sooner than others, before they bloat. Maybe best within the first 3 to 5 minutes of their being served. They ‘feel’ nicer when still firm and not so limp and spread out. 😀 😀 :0 😉
@Growing Beautifully, Thanks for the cooking and eating explanation. The analogy that comes to mind is that this is akin to the al dente concept for Italian pasta. I forget the K Drama that I was watching but the FL who didn’t cook made the ramen raw. It was a funny scene. What i love about ramen is the endless variations and how economical it is. And K Drama has educated me in ramen etiquette-it’s okay to slurp ramen and so is ramen dangling from one’s mouth. And it is fine to pick up the soup bowl to drink the broth. Again, thank you for adding to ramen knowledge because I really enjoy eating it.
@GB yeah. He could’ve been fake kissing 😂. I echo your feelings about Just Between Lovers. I happened upon it by recommendation. I was watching Won JinAh in Melting Me Softly (I only survived 2-3 eps in that drama) and noted that she emoted beautifully in the rare scenes where she wasn’t just doing slapstick. Someone told me she was in JBL so I started to watch it and you’re right. I couldn’t stop once I started it. It was very well told and acted.
Why do I navigate on food related posts? I had a spicy one yesterday since it’s cold and rainy here in NorCal.
My favorite instant ramen to-do is adding egg and a slice of cheese. Makes the soup creamier. Not sure if the cheese part came from kdrama watching. Cold rice is also better with hot ramen – this one I got from Joy in Tempted. 😉
@nrllee I’m so late … I just went to your links of your 20th Jan post above and I must say that Link (working title) with Moon Ga Young sounds interesting. How often we wish others know how we feel (especially our husbands LOL) and here’s a show about a guy stuck in this supernatural emotional connection.
I need to make a note to remember to look out for this show!
Definitely Fake Kissing scene in Run On and not even filmed that well! I laughed while watching it thinking of @packmule3 post a while back asking if Siwan had a no kissing contract. He just might.
*double sigh* on that kissing scene, might as well leave it to our own imagination rather than having a peck and a fake kiss lol..
@GB
I like Junho, I’ve known him from his idol days and man he is good. Finger crossed for project announcement once he’s out of the army.
This is the first time I found the kissing a bit conservative, yes as like @GB says, ‘false kissing’. I didn’t think it really is but usually all the mechanics of the jawline and showing a specific side of the face etc like if you watch the bts of Dan-ah and YeongHwa. I’m not sure if the angle of Mijoo and SeonGyeom at the bed is made to leave us to our imagination? It all looked very covered. 😛
I find this drama a little bit weird. The characters act more like teenagers and all their “intim” scenes give this awkard feeling from teenagers. The rich/poor theme is kinda extrem for a drama that could have been more realistic.
Grace,
Did you notice the title of this thread? Im Siwan’s *CORNER* — I guess I was psychic after all. lol. The kiss had to staged in a corner so we don’t get the full 360 degree arc shot of the kiss. Only Siwan’s back of the head. lol.
And that door sign, “Minors not allowed.” What does that sign really intend to do anyway? lol. Where they keeping the minors inside or outside the room?
But maybe he’s reserving the real kiss for real life??? Who knows? He’d been teased about kissing since his boy band days.
https://youtu.be/ewZi4cty118
Okay…Sayaris. Be honest now.
Whose kisses look more awkward?
Cha Eunwoo/Moon GaYoung or Siwan/ Shin __?
I cant complain much about CEW’s first kiss scene, the one against the boulder.
I think the first kiss scene was cute in True Beauty and normal for teenagers. The second was hotter than any kiss in Run On, but I guess teenagers are fast learners when Sun Kyum is just a fast runner :p
@packmule3 in that linked video I am actually glad he didn’t kiss the girl. The Chinese subs had the boys egging them to do it. She didn’t look like she wanted to be kissed but the boys were so raucous that she didn’t get the chance to say anything. It looked like an ad and SiWan was playing the groom. The boys (being boys) were getting rowdy and pushing him to kiss her for real. He didn’t. So he showed character. It probably wasn’t what was “scripted”. The PD wasn’t asking for a real kiss either but the boys were just throwing in their opinions saying they might as well. 🙄
ahhh…thanks for the explanation. So Siwan was being a gentleman. He didn’t take advantage of the situation.
@pm3, you had me laughing at the “corner” part! But he kissed at the earlier episode, the drunk kiss and that was better than this week’s “corner” one. 😛
That youtube link video kiss seemed unplanned so it wouldn’t be nice for him to do it for real. Actually it was the director who didn’t meant for it to be real right? he pushed the flowers up so it looked as if they kissed. I’m also glad like @nrllee that he didn’t kiss the girl though he got pushed by the boys so that he could “accidentally” do so. He sure got teased loads from the boys saying that it is the modern era already, what is a kiss, since you can kiss just go all the way etc. Poor Siwan. Not sure if it was Siwan saying it, that it will be his first kiss?
Kissing is easy, making it look good is another thing! I dunno how these actors/actresses can do it multiple times for a right shot. I don’t envy them.
Yes? No? Maybe so? BTS of kiss. I vote yes. 😂 although…I still have my doubts.

Hey there,
Finally Run On was released on Netflix Gr, so I started watching it last night!
I like that social awkard dude Ki Seon-Gyeom!
His most genuine trait is that he chooses to speak he says hard truths.
At the same time, I really like a female lead Oh Mi-Joo who stands up her ground to the archaic Professor of hers. I totally understand that she has pathos for translating, hence the decision to beg for his forgiveness.
I also find our OTP a good match. And that’s for now!
Kalimera!
I finished watching Run On and I really enjoyed it! What a cute couple and finally a healthy way to portray a relationship.
What I enjoyed the most was the realistic way portraying life, with ups and downs, how people fall in love, how people are grieving, how they find the courage to love themselves a bit more, how family can mess someone’s life and how that someone can become a whole person.
@Nrllee, I believe they kissed, but the ankle was hidden.
I watched the BTS as well and the Director was talking with them, they had to kiss, then we heard “Cut”, they stopped or they continued.
The whole scene with the rameyon was very very clever… *winks*
No Minors!
