There’s a separate thread for Ep 4 rewatch.
And since this is a Friday night special (at least for the viewers in Asia), cocktails and nonalcoholic beverages with be served. You have to be 21 and over to drink. I’m checking IDs, collecting car keys at the door, and giving a Breathalyzer test before handing the keys back.
By special request, we’ll offer Korean-style corndogs. lol.
So come and have fun with us at our Friday night rewatch.
Heheheheh! @pkml3,… it’s only Thursday morning for me, but I’m starting to gear up already. These re-watch Parties require a certain limbering up of the fingers and much quick reading of posts while making sense of what the show is doing 😉
I only just realised that you addressed script shipping in one of the Start Up threads and that you mentioned me. (*^▽^*) I’m so honoured!!
Yes, I recall how we say we deconstruct scenes, script-wise and not only that, from the aural and visual angle as well. What *bitches* we are about shows!! LOL. Catch you soon!
I’ll take all 3 corn dogs please!!! And a mojito!
Thank goodness this is virtual, I have to work after. 😂 Cheers!
Thank you @packmule3 you’re always a step ahead of me, about to ask you about the thread and here it is already 😁
Costco in Melbourne have a special on Kimchi at the moment 🙂
Hey Everyone,
Unfortunately Friday is not going to work with me, since I will be at TO.
I will try to be around here, without live watching the Episode!
So, Ladies just have fun and enjoy the Episode 3!
I will be with you on Episode 4!
Hi all! If you’re on Facebook, check out Humans of New York (this page features human interest stories not just from NY by across the globe). The story today is about the Pakistani founders of Atoms (a shoe company) on their start up journey and challenges, their love story, and breaking free of the traditional expectations of women set by their families and culture. The couple reminds me so much Dalmi and Dosan through the pictures and the details in the 11 short posts. Just like the DoDal couple who are visionaries, they are an inspiration!
See you in the rewatch!!!
Kalimera @Janey!
I started reading that story last night! I have to see if what else they posted!
Since, I won’t be with you on the rewatch party, I started watching Episode 3 yesterday, so as to be up to day for tomorrow’s episode!
Enjoy the rewatch!
Kalimera @Cleo! The HONY posts are complete now so you can read it in full. Tell me what you think.
Waqas sounds like Dosan in real life, the way he looks at her in photos, how sweet and caring he is to Sidra. And he is in charge of the tech side like the website. Sidra is so determined like Dalmi. Her message of women empowerment resonates and is creating positive ripples to her family and community. They work hard and followed their dream. Now their website is probably crashing with the influx of customers from the HONY community.
@Janie,
I loved their story. Persistence made them who they are today.
You can dream all you like, but you need to be focused and try and then try some more in order to succeed!
I am so happy for them! I would definitely check Atoms in the near future.
I believe that we should protect the small manufacturers in this tremendous difficult times. That’s why when I am buying something, I will do it from crafty people who have workshops in Greece, in order to help them maintain their workplace.
You know Waqas and Sidra’s struggles are pretty hard. What she is saying about castes is totally true. People from different castes cannot marry each other. It is forbidden by their laws. So, I am really happy for them, that they are together in the States.
We should have more women empowerment role models. You don’t know how a person’s story can affect another.
What a wonderful thread by HONY!
Hi @Cleopatra! I’ll miss you today/tonight. I’m thinking of you as you slave away at TO.
: )
My Lovely @GB!
I will miss you today / tonight too!
Haha… Don’t worry! Everything is okay!
I will write my thoughts on Episode 3 this evening, I will read your comments over here first to see your insights! Enjoy Episode 3 !
I am waiting for tomorrow’s rendezvous!
*Fighting!
Yes @Cleopatra, I look forward to tmr when you join us. 😉 What episode of Lovestruck in the City have you watched so far? I just posted something on that thread, on Episode 4 songs. I’m wanting to know if they’d still be considered spoilers for you.
Hi All, who’s here? 6 minutes and counting, by my clock.
Am here!!
Hi @pkml3. You’re up nice and early. You’ve put out a couple of posts/threads!!
Jetlag. Or adrenaline. Will probably conk out later.
I still have “Mr Queen” to do tonight.
Hi all,
Let me know when to start
Hi @Ella, any time you’re ready!! It’s just 8:59pm for me now!!!
Poor @pkml3! May your posts be fun and relaxing and not at all like work!
I find this beginning different from the previous episodes … just a quick credit which is a preview of the far off future… 4 of leads/side char walking.
It’s almost like a cold open.
I like her letter.
@Ella we’ve started!!!
JP says he relates with her here, but later on what he says shows that he does not really relate afterall.
LOL… Do San is sooooo literal in his interpretations.
I can’t believe that he just “kidnapped” Dosan like that.
I understand how JP could think of him as gullible and/or exasperating. “‘Have you ever wandered on purpose’… no, I’ve never done that.”
How could he be so literal? He doesn’t understand a rhetorical question?
Joo Hyuk’s acting was really good. The facial expression, hands waving… like how he was confused and all why the letter was addressed to him. And the keyword! LOL!
Double rainbows and sail off without a map. ❤️❤️❤️
Dal Mi is out of place in the party. She does not like the cocktail, but does she have to spit it out like that!!!
Aerial shot of her back and looking small and isolated. This version of DS walking to her is different from last episode’s ending scene. He goes to her unhesitatingly and gets practically squeezed to death LOL.
Yes I’ve started as well.. The yelling also started quite early in the episode lol..
I miss DoSan dorky curly hair hehee..
Isn’t he just so literal?
Why is it that kdrama writers always present mathematical people as very literal??
I like Dalmi’s letter. I like how the screenwriter is going to build the whole drama around this letter.
Have you ever wandered on purpose? Today I wandered aimlessly on purpose. Have you ever let yourself get soaked even though you had an umbrella? That’s what I did today? It was a sweltering day and the rain totally cooled me down. After walking for 30 minutes like that, the rain stopped, and an unbelievably beautiful scene unfolded before my eyes. I saw a huge rainbow. It looked as though it’d grant me any wish. Then, it suddenly hit me, it’s actually nice to wander aimlessly every once in a while. From time to time, it’d be wonderful to sail off without a map.
@Diane Hi!! Yes, Joo Hyuk was spot on in all the emotions or lack thereof LOL.
@pkml3 JP was just too fixated on repaying grandma, it didn’t matter how he stopped DS from meeting DM.
Did you watch “The Uncanny Counter”? I think kdrama writers have this thing for curly hair on dorky heroes. Maybe it’s a passing fad.
How awkward this situation would be in RL, they don’t have chance to compare notes before hand and DoSan was introduced as eros boyfriend and business partner lol..
Hello! Got my mimosa err tea!!!
I’m ready.
Thank heavens JP saved DS from exposing himself. Strangely he calls JP ‘angel’ by mistake!!! The word ‘angel’ was again used later, but by DM about DS I think. DS is the real angel.
LOL the avid reciting of the national anthem!!!
This is the first time Dosan made use of his “big” hand. When he put Dalmi’s hand back on the crook of his arm… So reassuring.
I really love DalMi’s smitten face when DoSan walk away like a giddy school girl
Hi @Janey! I’m just drinking water today. Feeling very saintly.
In the aerial views of Dal Mi at the party. In the beginning Dal Mi had looked lost and isolated on a table by herself with her mother and sister on the other side of the room, making a long thin triangle. When they approach her and watch Do San walk off with JP, they make a smaller triangle, and camera makes it look like they flank DM on either side.
They come out of the rectangular doorway as a threesome with 2 guys behind. The reordering of relationships.
@Ella IKR! Very awkward but Dosan played the role well. And I like how Dalmi was so in awe of him.
The national anthem scene was really funny. Their hands and facial expression. Best actors! Haha! I’ll take note next time when I need to fake a conversation to recite our national anthem.
Isn’t it interesting that Dosan said he is not good at lying but the first thing he blurts out to back up Dalmi was asking her to be their CEO? I think at the back of his mind, he really felt that he is not cut out of the CEO work.
I see that California is represented!!
lol. If I didn’t fly home, I would have been in CA, too.
That smile was ad-libbed by Joo-hyuk, and because he smile like that, sh add the line that’s it.
His reason to break off “terminal illness” LOLOL!!!
He just won’t get the hint about telling a whitle lie. He’s too honest and when JP is cynical about it, DS actually thanks him!!!
On the way to get the car, JP tells DS to just be quiet in the car.
“Just nod along and smile here and there. … Be the quiet, good-looking guy.” LOL so that’s where DS got the ‘concept’ from.
@pkml3 So you’re back in Washington and @Ella, @Diane and @Janey are in CA?
Where is Cleopatra when I need her?
The Ancient Greeks have 8 forms of love:
Dalmi had to start with the eros… root word for erotic.
Eros: romantic, passionate love
Philia: affectionate love
Agape: selfless, universal love
Storge: familiar love or love for family members
Mania: obsessive love
Ludus: playful love
Pragma: enduring love
Philautia: self love
I would have started with Ludus or heart-fluttering love.
This part with her mum … still so much sisterly rivalry and jealousy… and mum’s words and touch can still stir her heart and open the tear ducts.
At least Susie’s crying has her with a red nose … totally real crying.
And Dalmi found it funny when he said that tonight he is acting as the quiet good-looking guy. Little did she know he wasn’t joking. Haha!
The mom and her line…
“Bluffing without a real plan makes you a fraud.
Sorting things afterward makes you the same as your father.”
Okay, soooooo… who was the title referring to? Dosan or JP?
Title: Angel: an investor who invests in budding start-ups and provides mentorships
It should have been JP. He was wearing white. He had the white car.
But emotionally, and realistically speaking, it was Dosan. He was invested in building a relationship with Dalmi, and he provided mentorship … or inspiration to Dalmi to leave her job.
JP follows DL and DS in a taxi, a metaphor for how he’ll always be behind DS in DM’s affections. DS would be next to her but JP would be steps behind.
@GB
Yes, Suzy’s not afraid of crying, I saw bts where we saw her crying from behind and Joo-hyuk was showing her his wet hands from her tears.
Representing Philippines! 🇵🇭
Badly wish I’m in CA with my relatives though… haaay I hope this pandemic will be over soon so we can travel.
The fireworks and Dosan looking at Dalmi while driving top down. What a perfect “first” date.
All 3 of them say the fireworks but Dosan is with Dalmi (and realized she is pretty) while JP is in a taxi tailing them…
I like JooHyuk’s expression when he accidentally said “me too” when the roof opened.
@pkml3 Yes, that’s right. One had all the appearance and means to be an angel, but it was the other one who was the ‘real’ angel.
In Jae is strangely naive for a smart business woman. How can she think her step brother, the real blood son of the step dad would just be her secretary.
@packmule3
the all white and all black outfit contrast is done on purpose, maybe why people ehm.. are confused as well
Diane,
Yikes. That mom! Why would she talk about her dead husband like that in front of Dalmi?
And it depends on perspective really. She thinks it’s bluffing. I say it’s “CRITICAL thinking on the fly” — which is an asset. I like people who can think outside the box.
And as Dalmi would learn later on, she needs to work hard to come up with a plan, too.
@Ella, I think that actors are taught how to cry on cue… but I can’t imagine being able to do so.
Love him honestly saying that he’s showing off the quiet good-looking guy concept…. laugh and get a hairy butt!!!
And he literally has to explain that it’s not possible LOLOL.
Yes. They all saw the fireworks but two were “experiencing” the fireworks together.
One is just tagging along = foreshadowing of his role in the story. hahaha.
The hair growing in the butt reference here is also in True Beauty. I’ve never heard of that expression! Is that a Korean culture thing?
What’s up with the hairy butt jokes?
Better hairy butts on men than women, I say. hahaha.
DoSan thinks DalMi is pretty but I think the moment where it click for him is when DalMi said his tarzan story is interesting and cool. He looked at her in awe.
Hi everyone.. i’m sorry i’m late joining the rewatch..
I like the scene where little Dalmi walk aimlessly. I happened to do that once too.. at first I was insecure. But it was quite enjoyable in the end.. This is one of my favorite episodes of Start Up.
I remembered when I first watched this episode, I had a very different imagination about how JP-Dosan relationship would be. I thought JP would be kind towards Dosan..something that was only in my dreams. Lol..
I like this part about the music box.
As he walks off, it becomes SLO MO and DS thinks of his dad berating him as good for nothing and saying Who would want to marry you?
AND JP saying that of those companies he did not invest in zero succeeded.
so much negativity.
AND he remembers … counter to that, DM had said that he was her pretty music box, I bet you have a lovely melody. “I’m sure of it.” (He stops)
In the chorus of negative statements, Dal Mi’s was the only positive voice.
He turns around and asked about the music box. Did you open it
What did it sound like …
It was unbelievably wonderful. And she thumbs up – it was a sign of approval of DS who was the music box. Positivity at last!!! He smiled.
I love the OST here.
@Ella @pm3 Agree. The outfit contrast was done on purpose. Very good detail. And I agree the angel was both Dosan and JP.
Yes the nerve of the mom. Well she said so herself. She was shameless!
When Dosan was walking away and the flashbacks (dad, JP, Dalmi)… Dosan asking Dalmi from afar about the musicbox and walking back towards her after realizing the keyword. I liked how the director did this whole scene!
AHA moment of Dosan on music box and keyword on sailing without the map (with her). Love this scene and first play of the song Dream!
And off goes DS to sail without a plan. Hah! JP is the one growing hair on his butt at this turn of events.
DS is already in love with DM here.
“It was unlike me, but I thought the exact same thing at that moment.” (He walks back to Dal Mi with a smile) “That it wouldn’t be bad to sail off without a map even if we were to get lost. If it’s with you, that is.”
Same here. Moonstar512!
I thought JP would act like a hyung or like Cyrano in Cyrano de Bergerac. I didn’t expect him to turn out to be pettiest of all male characters here.
Hi @Moonstar512
They will start Following their Dreams now!!!
@Janey I also love Dosan’s voiceover while walking back towards Dalmi. It was done beautifully! When they admitted that they are both single and Dosan saying he is available 24×7… so heart fluttering (kilig-in our local language). ❤️
yup especially since in her last drama WYWS her SL was awesome and very supportive.
Here it shows that JP does not relate with DM’s words afterall… a metaphor but he won’t even try to put it into action.
Love the timing… do not contact her … but she contacts him first.
Again DS thanks him when he’s being cynical LOLOL.
DS actually telling her he wants Fried Chicken and a Flash Drive LOLOL.
Now is the time that JP does the dictating of a note to DM when in the past Grandma had done the dictating.
That was good editing, Ella.
We could tell that something was going on, and that they had a more “Interesting” conversation than was originally shown in Episode 3 because Dalmi looked smitten when he asked about the music box. But the “Tarzan” was withheld from us till the next episode.
For his first non-literal and metaphorical conversation, Dosan did pretty well. I like how he pushed the ramen bowls together to emphasize his point.
Well said @GB! Wonderful scene there.
@Ella, I agree that DM asking about what he likes, trying to get to know him and the Tarzan conversation (another favorite) is why he was drawn to her and made the conclusion to sail off without a map. Since we have not seen that yet (ep4), it seems like DS attraction to DM was superficial or just physical attraction at this point.
Susie was being super dorky with her ‘dance’ moves here.
And now here’s the total contrast between what DM says and what JP tells grandma about DS. What is grandma to believe.
If DoSan actually send that message saying he wants fried chicken, I’ll bet DalMi would just say that it’s her fave and ask him out for fried chicken lol..
I was expecting a “fried chicken” date for some reason since they both liked chicken.
Weird that BBQ Olive had no PPL with this show when it saturated “The King: Eternal Monarch” with chicken-eating scenes.
@Jane, good point. We don’t see the Tarzan chat yet.
@Ella, yes, they’d have bonded even faster over Fried Chicken. Liking Fried Chicken = True sign that they’re meant to be together!! LOL.
The nerve of JP to lie or exaggerate about the events of the night before and how he saved the Dalmi *eyes rolling*
Halmeoni must be confused bec she is getting two versions of the events from Dalmi and JP.
I know, right!!
They should have had a fried chicken scene in this drama… oh wait, they did! But it was a Chulsan scene stealer, though.
Joo-hyuk is a twosome BA, so we get plenty of coffee drinking cake eating session instead of bbq olive lol
Grandma says: That night meant so much for Dal Mi she had told grandma “God must have felt bad for everything he put her through. Maybe that’s why God gave her yesterday as a gift. That’s what she thinks. She said even when she turns 100 she’ll remember every second of every minute. It felt like a dream.” – So the Dream OST was so appropriate.
BUT why do script writers get it wrong … God does not have to feel bad because he does not put people through stuff. *sigh*
I like the music for In Jae’s confident walk through her office. Poor kid gets the rug pulled from under her feet by lousy step dad.
Check out all the twosome videos of NJH! 😍
https://youtube.com/channel/UCDjdk0ufvcvV08hAm_vF06Q
@PM3 hahaha! I was expecting more chicken at BBQ Olive. They were also there in CLOY and TKEM. Here the restaurant placement is the coffee/cake shop.
Dalmi says Dosan is an angel 😇!!!
And she likes that he is modest. I don’t really think she will hit it off with JP. He is not modest at all.
Dal Mi finally does open her music box. This is interspersed with Grandma speaking of waking her from her dream.
JP is upset. “She’ll be so disappointed.” JP can’t sleep.
So at this stage, JP’s also infatuated with DM.
What’s a BA?
You mean he’s the face of “Twosome Place”? I can understand the coffee but cake-eating session…?
Fried Chicken is a quintessential kdrama eating scene. Like ramen and the outdoor dining (pongmangcha??)
@Packmule3 haahaa yes rightt.. It’s sad that JP turned out to be that kind of guy, actually..
@GB: yess GB!! following their dreams!
And for me…from the point of view of Dalmi..the Angel in this episode is of course DOSAN. lol. JP even asked him “are you working for the UNICEF”.. Dosan save her in the party, Dosan even made her feeling better with unexpectedly open the roof of the car.. That day for Dalmi, Dosan was like an angel right?
And also Dalmi is angel too for Dosan. Eventhough we just know in the later episode about what was actually Dosan and Dalmi talking about after eating ramyun. The way how Dalmi is sincerely interested about Dosan’s work, while his father was very angry, and JP belittled Samsan tech. Dalmi’s smile when telling about the music box to Dosan. I feel like Dosan is encouraged somehow too because of Dalmi.
BA = Brand Ambassador
I love how the voiceover of DoSan text to jp is super flat and toneless lol..
Hahaha. Thanks, Diane.
For me, BA meant “British Airways.” My head is still in the clouds or in the airplane.
I like that DM is inspired by DS so that she can decide to quit. She sticks to her guns regardless of what her colleagues say. Since they don’t value her, what do they expect … but they are used to interns being desperate enough to stay regardless of bad treatment.
Ah the Money Tree!!! And now the lies get exacerbated, because she insists on visiting DS at the address on his card to give him the tree. If he hadn’t been so nice as himself… if it had been JP pretending to be DS while not connecting/relating with her thoughts, … she’d probably not have bothered to give that tree to him.
@Diane, ah NJH is brand ambassador for the coffee shop! Thanks for reference.
Chulsan looking sulky and complaining why they are going through all the hassle of setting up is soo cute. To be honest you’d think he is the “revenge” guy and not Yongsan bec he never liked JP since day 1 because of his attitude.
They went to such pains just because of the Money Tree… I like Chul San’s expression when he realised that, that’s why they had to put on such a fake show. LOL DS actually forgot Chul San’s name for a moment!!!
And I also like their expressions later when they learn that Grandma is going to tell DM the truth so why are they all there pretending and trying to keep up pretenses.
Now JP’s turn to spit out his drink!!!
I was amused how DS’s finger signs to JP changed from little to finger hearts.
@packmule3
Yes I meant Brand Ambassador, the face of twosome, he’s also Desker’s BA so we got those ppl of work desk going up and down lol..
Imagine the actual effort of moving all those equipments with Samsan tech’s office stairs, no wonder Chulsan was mad lol..
On the sister of Saha who is colleague of DM – she was the first person to support her on her new direction! When the other girl said “pls stop her”, from resigning, Saha’s sister said “No, I’m rooting for her”. And in the end of the series, she’s working for DM and DS!
@Diane, true… I’d have put CS down as ‘revenge’ guy instead of YS.
The lie just spawned a whole new enterprise with DM, while In Jae is being pushed out of her business. Love the balance and parallels.
Dalmi’s 3 reason… I like how she is confident that she is prettier and her boyfriend is a better catch.
Dosan’s face when Dalmi told him she quit her job. Shocked at first but what was he thinking after? Do you think it encouraged or boosted his confidence a bit about himself esp after the music box conversation?
I would never have thought that the two were sisters: Saha and Dalmi’s coworker. Her coworker looked “homely” and Saha…well…Saha is Stephanie Lee. lol.
By the way, the little girl that would be seen playing with Saha at the park in Ep 13(?) wasn’t Saha’s daughter but Saha’s niece. This coworker had a daughter.
Thanks @Janey, I didn’t catch that about Sa Ha’s sister. And the Money Tree should indeed come back to her since she joins the company with Do San in it.
LOL, mum didn’t expect her daughter to throw away everything. But it was a good break… manifested in a good haircut.
BTW,
Janey = Jane in this conversation.
I had to check your email address to be sure, Janey/Jane.
CS can’t grab the money from JP fast enough LOL. Now they hear that grandma will tell DM the truth. So regret all around.
DS looks at the Money Tree … it represents DM who is not there now… and he thinks of her but he says instead that he wants to get into Sand Box and they can keep fooling DM.
I like InJae and her acting. When she walked and said “I feel shitty”, I sympathized with her.
Ep3 is like the turning point of the characters and changing their paths. DM resigning, same with InJae, DS sailing off with a map with DM… for JP, I’m not sure, still in denial ( even for his attraction to DM).
@Janey I really didn’t see the relevance of the friend being Saha’s sister except she gave the tree and I guess they were able to reconnect again. She and Dalmi didn’t even have a scene together (or with Saha and Dalmi and the rest) in the end.
Dosan giving JP the finger. LOL!
JP being harsh again. So unlike the letter writer…that’s the irony.
And just as he puts them down and asks for evidence of an inkling of hope … DS shows him the CODA results … with a finger heart.
lol. Dosan made that finger heart because he didn’t want to insult JP.
I think it irritated JP too. He knew that Dosan really wanted to rub it in that JP underestimated them, but was just holding it all in as an act of “deference.”
yeah she mentioned about going on maternity leave soon.
if jp is a rl manager, he probably got reported already for verbal abuse or sued.
I remember the BTS… when Dosan was holding the phone too close to JP and he accidentally touched the screen so the “CODA email” was closed and instead JP can only see his face. It was so funny!
JP only thinks about Grandma in terms of a debt he owes *sigh*. He still does not understand unconditional love.
@Janey I like InJae acting too.. I watched her also in Designated Survivor (based on the US series).. soon we could watch her and Yongsan playing in the new drama..yayy
and for JP, I still see his caring for Dalmi in this episode more like an older brother to her little sister. Because he loves Halmoni like a family so I get the vibe of him like a mere relative towards Dalmi.
The infamous 1 Million view making video lol.. I really love the comedy during the three idiots scene.
CS is forward thinking … they could have bought tickets to San Francisco. But now they are stuck with a green screen and a horrible video clip.
I find the cousin’s hair so girly!!
Oh dear the dangers of what we get with editing!!
OMG, here’s the Money video BTS !!! So hilarious. Everyone hated that video except for Alex and… Dalmi!!! Dosan can never do wrong in DM’s eyes. She gets him. She even used the cousin to shoot Injae video.
Another JP date with Grandma! At least this time he feeds her properly at a nice restaurant.
LOL the 3 guys dissing JP. DS has his own ideas about getting on with JP … it’s to do with having links with DM.
He talks all around it, and even loses his friends for a while. LOL how people complain about engineering majors … they can’t say things simply.
But DS could … he could make his parents understand image recognition, and DL understand AI.
That simple ‘yes’ to YS’s question makes all the difference in the world.
@Janey And I actually loved the video. I even joked and posted in FB to watch out for Ana-Elsa-like scenes so I was shocked when Injae’s video used that concept.
Dosan’s cousin was actually instrumental in the success of SST and Tarzan. He helped them in his own quirky way.
DS is actually right .. . both he and JP do not want to disappoint DM. So JP is asking Grandma not to tell her the truth.
Now the million dollar question… Do you like Dal Mi?
One denies and one admits. It’s so clear who she should be with.
wait what.. so JP said he was embarrassed he wrote the letters. Hmm.. What would Dalmi say if she know it? Sigh. This guy even asked for the letters in the end. lol
There is just something about Red Velvet’s Future when it starts playing… ❤️
Dosan’s YES sealed it. He is in love!
@Diane, great foreshadowing on Anna-Elsa!! I agree on the cousin! He deserves the 1%!
True, Janey. This episode was a turning point for the characters. The change of scene.
I like the contrast between the two sisters.
Injae looked shitty when she resigned, but Dalmi looked relaxed when she resigned. Injae looked pissed off, but Dalmi was pissing off her boss.
I also like the metaphor about taking the elevator to the top floor. But this writer had so many metaphors in this episode, my head was spinning trying to keep track of all of them.
elevators, money tree, fireworks, taking a wrong turn, sailing off without a map, music box, umbrella, and so on.
I remember my first time seeing the money video, I was laughing so loud my mom came out and asked me what happened lol..
@moonstar512 Yes those letters … JP seems to be in 2 minds about them… He wants them because of DM, but he does not seem like the person who wrote to her.
I remember when I first watched this MONEY video I was crying and laughing non-stop. I can feel the embarrassment of the family, friends, and Dosan. But we got to admit it was crazy good! Definitely caught all our attention.
@Ella, I was rolling on the floor over that video, Look at the horror on the faces. And the banner falls on dad of course!
That banner falling on the dad was just icing on top. hahaha.
Poor Do San in tears!!! Alex is amused… ‘Amazing’.
And it’s a wrap!
I was also laughing when Chulsan said that the cousin was the real “anti”.
I’m still laughing, as I read our comments. That was fun. Thanks all for this Watch Party!!
@pkml3, get some rest!
See you all tomorrow, I hope!!
Thank you guys, always a happy time doing rewatch with you all, see you tomorrow same time 😘
@PM3 – oh yes, the contrast on the sisters quitting. That’s a great one.
Looking at contrasts, DS says he likes DM, JP says no. Still in denial. 😂
Now I see the turning point of JP in this ep, to help DM succeed as payment for grandma. Which means continue lying.
Yes, Janey.
Also, I could see how Dalmi fell in love with Dosan in this episode. She felt a “connection” when they were talking about Tarzan. But I don’t see Dalmi falling in love with JP here.
Even if JP was the letter-writer, they wouldn’t have connected because JP wasn’t anything like the persona he projected while writing the letters.
Yes the money video was hilarious. Dosan’s cousin is so talented in his own way. I wonder why no one said it was funny, I mean people in the CODA event laughing so hard right… Alex even said he was amazing. Lol.
@Janey JP uses repayment of debt as the justification when he is raelly choosing to lie (when previously he wanted to cut it short) because he likes DM. His denial has started and continued until it was too late… and anyway, DM ever only had eyes for DS.
@packmule3 exactly JP wasn’t anything like the persona he projected while writing the letters!!
So happy to be able to have a rewatch with you all..
Have a good day 🙂
Good Day and Good Night!!
moonstar,
I think there was a cultural divide here. For Westerners, it was hilarious. It reminded me of those weird commercials during Superbowls (that the Football championship). The quirkier, the better. The purpose of the ads is to get your brand/name/company out there. I actually rewatch the commercials the day after.
So, in that sense, Dosan’s cousin’s ad worked.
But for the Korean culture, the ad was all weird because it wasn’t “proper” to talk about money in that brash way. It’s too in-your-face.
The family of Dosan was appalled because they were probably expecting an homage to Dosan’s genius. You know, like a documentary of how he founded the company and worked on CODA and so on.
Thanks for the rewatch! I’ve never dissected a kdrama like this. You all make it so fun and satisfying.
Now back to Friday work. I’m getting myself coffee this time.
See you all tomorrow!
and the setting was an award acceptance speech, so this video actually looks like you open the wrong file situation
Janey, the rewatch tradition is something I did on soompi for a variety show.
And then, @ agdr03 and I did it for “Warm and Cozy” all 16 episodes. We called ourselves the royal ladies and we would light up the boards. Really, our thread would show up on the sidebar as “hot” because four or five of us were just chatting away.
I also did it with a couple of soompi friends for Reply 1988. But lol we never finished our rewatch because I had to go somewhere. Work mission.
@camelknight, if you’re lurking here, I’m sorry to leave you hanging like that. I know I broke your heart. But I warned you not to fall in love with me. lol.
When agdr03 found me here, we started doing our rewatches again. Several times, we did it just the two of us. It’s for pure fun. We pretend to be “keyboard warriors”.
I know, right? They were probably expecting like the “Parasite” Academy awards acceptance speech.
But you’ve gotta love the cousin though. He did give them free publicity. His services would have cost them an arm and leg if they paid an actual ad agency.
But yes… he was the ultimate “anti.” hahaha.
Now, I’m a fan (not anti, LOL) of the rewatch tradition! Kdrama keyboard warriors! I use my phone so it’s hard to catch up on the typing sometimes.
I like rewatching but always by myself so the shared experience and thoughts elevate the discussions especially since we feel isolated with the pandemic. So thank you @PM3 and everyone for this.
Cheers!
Dear @packmule3 and all,
Yes, the ancient greeks had different types of love. I found this article for more information if anyone wants to read it:
https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/hide-and-seek/201606/these-are-the-7-types-love
Since Dal-Mi chose Eros / έρως:
I am attaching for you here a video from Plato’s – Symposium.
You can see how each person in the Platonic Dialogue gives an different interpretation on (God) Eros. It has english subs, so don’t worry!

P.S. The Greek Philosophers: Plato and Aristotle both wrote about Love / Agape.
P.S. 2 I read all your commments and I will post my thoughts later on!
Thanks for the link to Psychology Today on the different kinds of love @Cleopatra. It was a great read. I have heard of eros, philia and agape. I like the section on philautia and I see at once the root word for pragmatism in pragma. Many shows revolved around how philia or ludus evolves into eros (or doesn’t and the heartbreak therein), but I don’t recall many where eros gives way to philia. Only those where in the love triangle, the 2nd lead gives way to the 1st and still remains friends? 😉
🙂
I see a group project here…
Do you want to write about it, GB, and post examples of dramas under each one?
I don’t mind if the others want to share their list of examples, too.
Well,
When @Packmule3 were asking for me, I had to reply!
The Philosophers Plato and Aristotle were trying to find answers for many things. Love or agape was one of them!
Ludus is the latin word. I even was perplexed, but it means ερωτοτροπία / erototropia.
As for your question I have to think about it!
Dearie me!! @pkml3 I find though, that I start a project but the group does not materialise LOL. One needs to have fantastic memory or good notes on loads of shows to be able to review them under 7 types of love!!!
Thanks for your response, @ Cleopatra. 🙂
Agape is my type, as in “agape mou.” lol.
@Packmule3
You are welcome!
I dedicate to you the following song:)

Agape mou or agapemeni / agapemene mou is one phrase I use with my very close friends or family members.
