Can I just say that I’m satisfied with the pacing of this drama? Other romcoms will put off the happily-ever-after (HEA) till the last episode leaving the viewers rushed and unsatisfied. With “Start-Up” however, we have the couple reunited in this Episode 15, and everything that happens in Episode 16 is like an epilogue, wrapping up the loose ends and serving as a supplemental to romance of Dosan and Dalmi. That’s how I like my love stories ordered and organized. First, wrap up the HEA for the primary couple. Then, deal with the others with the remaining minutes. Not the other way around.

Yes, this is so satisfactory. I’m contented already at Ep 15 and don’t need any more conflict or stress to get me to watch Ep 16. It’s just a great, relaxing finish-up of a show with many great characters.

I think most viewers (who are not the fangirl of JP ofcourse) are satisfied with this drama. The storyline ended beautifully without much exaggeration. It’s been a long time since I don’t have any complaint after watching a romance drama. And also this drama bring me the courage to wrote my first comments in BOD. Therefore, I cherish Start Up so much, this drama will always hold a special place in my heart.💟
This is the kind of kiss I want to see in my kdrama, a kiss that give me butterflies.

Do San had prepared for this day from the time he was in 2STO. He took DM’s idea and developed the self-driving car algorithm just in case. *heart flutter* (Later we see that he brings his positive attitude of let’s do it, just in case to the Smart City Self-Driving Platform bid as well.)
I love the fake out at the beginning, where we can’t see Dosan but he was there in the car. It’s an affirmation that he will always be there to support Dalmi no matter what 😢

It’s such a nice, balanced out reversal. Previously DM was saying she didn’t want her company to bog down the team and does not want to lose her team again. But DS hears this and he does not want the team to bog down DM. She used to be more gutsy before.
“Save the cat” is supposed to introduce the hero as a good guy.
As well than “Kill the cat” introduce a guy we know how evil he is. Except Ernst stravo blofeld, who like his white cat.

One theme of this episode is whether jumping into un-chartered waters is recklessness or a good call to grab opportunities presented. Appropriate that we have the fortune telling Tarot Cards app, giving the protagonists a toss up advice. 50-50 chance of success or failure.
And is failure actually a bad thing? …Since it’s a learning opportunity and experience is gained?

I do see one critical flaw in this Tarzan project, though.
The problem with the car (and other self-driving cars) is that it isn’t designed to respond to the siren of an emergency vehicle like a fire truck, ambulance, or police car.
Tarzan reacts to visual stimuli, but not to auditory stimulus like the blaring of a horn and siren. It won’t stop or pull over to the side to make way for the emergency vehicle.
I guess that would be one thing that Dosan and his team could improve on if they were actually on a Smart City/Car Design project.

She’s become over-cautious, and he wants to get her to return to her old self.
Good use of elevator scenes for highlighting conflicts – DS and JP, Yongsan and JP, DS+DM+JP confrontations.
I didn’t like it that DS was talking to DM and JP butted in and did the answering. Hmmmp!
The anagram scenes – there are apps to do this. As tech guys, they should have used that instead of writing the manually figuring it out, especially that they are looking for English words.

That is my favorite part of the drama. Realizing that you don’t have regrets about the past. That you should trust yourself and your abilities, even though it is risky.

JP wasn’t a trailblazer. More like a dead weight, an albatross, and a dream-wrecker. People with his sort of personality have no business being mentors.
The caracter of JP is so important in this drama. I really like him a character.
He has human flaws so many people have. Maybe not so high. But the dig dig for example. I know I do it sometimes. Instead of going into the work, I wait or be confused by looking for more than necessary other informations. Fear of doing badly. I have the other flaw too, rush to quickly without enough preparation. Yes, it’s possible to have both the flaws. 🙂

Ah, those letters. Not very important to JP since he did not even get them for many years. Only now that he is rubbing it in front of DS Because he knows that DS and DM still have a connection. He was reminded of the letters when Dosan mentioned “sail off without a map”.

Hahaha the drinking scene and their rosy cheeks! Love it! My whole face turn red though when I drink alcohol. We tried soju (with different flavors) at home and it’s very potent. I like soju and yakult.
@packmule3 i don’t think JP actor fans have the right of protesting that. They should be grateful enough that the actor JP is in the Baeksang Nomination for best supporting actor. His acting as JP in Start Up brought his career to the next level..
No matter how I hate JP, there’s still a part of me that feels bad.. how lonely and alone he was. Had he opened himself more and spent more quality time he would have been happier.
No matter how drunk both were, this is their most honest and sincere conversation.
Tarot app does not suit DM because she really wants to do the bid but it tells her to do the opposite of what her heart tells her.
Then next morning, instead of getting the oracle from Tarot app, DM listens to Grandma.

Two things that I didn’t like about JP:
a. his put-downs. He was browbeating Dosan and the team. And it was unnecessary most of the time. He was bullying them because of his own personal insecurity and his jealousy of Dosan’s “privileged” (quote-unquote) family background.
JP had a chip on his shoulder and he was too proud to admit it.
b. his sabotaging Dosan and Dalmi’s relationship. Really. If he were female, his fangirls/boys would see through his schemes and excoriate him. The reasons his antics were given a free pass were because:
a. he had a “cute” smile and
b. he was a guy. Sexist….

Often, it’s a common flaw, almost everyone did that soon or later. Say something good, moral value, way of doing right. But in real, it’s just words, or more what we would like to do but can’t. And real fact is : we don’t do what we say. Not only that, but we can also be angry when other people don’t do it either. It’s so stupid we can be.
As I already said, it’s very easy to identify to or like JP. Or even think he should be the male lead. To say, he don’t deserve that, as a way to say, I don’t deserve that too.
This writer is good at knowing and portraying human soul. I’m sure she lived many things herselve, and have a good inner sight of her mind, and other minds.

DM had an epiphany – she too needed to go in blind. And so she decided on doing the bid.

Good! They won’t rain on Suzy’s and NJH’s parade then.
DS kindly wants to pack kongjaban for JP because he said (lied) he liked it. (He’s so nice, he’s not even doing it to give one less reason for JP to bother DM.)
This makes JP angry – when people are genuinely nice to him, JP can’t take it. He twists it around to putting down the other person. Instead of being happy to be well treated he makes it sound like giving is the other person’s weakness “Have you no pride?”
He does not ever want to be grateful, or to owe anyone. This is the reason that he finally tells DS the truth….so that he won’t owe him.
DS runs to Sandbox to be with DM. JP is alone again – has poor compensation in keeping both the plant and the box of letters. He tries to comfort himself. It’s OK, this is enough. Pathetic.
JP in the car while the flowers of the field blow and scatter around him. Seems that when there are these significant moments of JP (especially over DM) he is in a picturesque setting with nature swirling/falling around him. Last time there was rain, when he was a kid there were cherry blossoms, this time we have flowers from tall grass (don’t know the name of the grass). Picturesque but very sad. Even the first petal never landed on JP. It flew to DS.
That song.. and JP talking to himself (and the plant). It was heartbreaking. While I am rejoicing that Dosan finally gets it that it is him Dalmi likes, seeing JP alone is so sad. 😔
…and he we are about to witness again another hot steamy kiss!
@GB yes JP is angry! And I got teary eyed because of the kindness in DoSan. He is genuinely kind, and care towards JP even if JP behave like that to him.
Really.. the title of good boy here should have been Dosan’s……
@GB – you are right! JP comes clean so that he does not owe DS anymore. Instead of saying sorry for gaslighting and lying to him, he made an “equitable “ exchange with the letters and plants. It was sad to see him say those were enough.
I like that DS is such a good guy at heart, no malice feelings on JP. ❤️
JP finally understands that he is alone and in the wrong.
He does that with his aloof self, but deep inside he knows that he was wrong. He is just too lonely to open up but in that scene he redeemed himself to DoSan.
The best advice that JP gave DS: “Stop feeling inferior to me. Work on your self-esteem and look at Dal Mi again. Then you’ll know who she really likes. With those hands alone, you beat our memories.”

Poor DS never had the confidence with just his hands.
He asks her again, 3 times to undo/reverse the 3 times before: “Dalmi, why do you like me? I’m not your first love, and I didn’t write those letters. I lied to you and hurt you. I can’t think of a single reason why you’d like me. Just my hands. That’s it. Why do you like me?”
DM : “I don’t know.’
DS : “Why do you like me?”
DM : “Do I need a reason? I just like you. I don’t need a reason to like you. Because it’s you. You’re the reason. That’s all there is to it.” Best answer!

Being rejected as a child is not something easy and leaves marks and trauma in a child’s psyche.
Still, he has learned to be alone. That was his way of doing things.
He was envious of others with family especially DoSan because he was lacking at that department. He haven’t received love before.
Only Halmeoni did that for him and he opened up bit by bit.
Healing takes a lot of time. Especially if you don’t realize that something is wrong with you.

@WE The Wons had probably always used the same tactics to bring their rivals down. IJ probably guessed what would happen if they went in for the bid. Even JP knew the ‘famous’ journalist and ran to help.

The scene is well made :
First, we think the journalist could be sincere.
But there is many sequences cut showing the plan.
Building the tension, as we thinks more and more heroes will be traped, because they are on the way to answer with sincerity.

Yep. Won tried to do the same in the beginning with In Jae and she left the company to make hers. Won doesn’t know a lot about In Jae as it seems!
EPILOGUE: DS tells DM that he wasn’t forced to develop the algorithm for the self-driving car. He wanted to be ready to join her to start another business together. He wants to be everything that she said he was to her but as himself and not as the fake letter writer. *Squee*
What a nice note to end on.

Yes rewatch are so nice. If I want to follow HP rewatch, I would need to watch it, but it’s so difficult. I can’t go into this drama. And if I force myself, I fear to be annoying. I know myself enough to know it’s not something positive, both for me and others. Rewatch are for spendt a good moment, not to stand the annoying guy pointing this or that. So, I should take a break and come back for a next rewatch, about a drama I like more easely.
