I know, right? For me it was his smirk, and his belly. He looked like a reporter who spent his days eating donuts instead of going after hard news. Ha! I try not to judge people by their appearance, but I do “profile” a reporter right away in the same way I profile a potential juror.
So here, resolution of the journalist situation. Of course, no more suspens now.

The funny thing is, Samsan Tech could see through the reporter, but JP couldn’t see through Samsan Tech. He still saw them as “newbies” and incompetent. 🙂 I’m glad that InJae let them handle the reporter on their own.

I like that instead of fussing about the money plant that JP unfairly kept for himself, DS makes his own plant, a soft cactus for Grandma to hug and to warm her. So sweet!

I’m sure it could be made < 15 minutes if really needed. I don't say it's fan service, but I watched that in Pinnochio too. Normaly, action stop as soon as possible in movies. But this writer is quite succesfull to make something enjoyable just about tender and optimistic scenes at the end. There is high risk here to do something boring.
every time i watched this scene i’m reminded of packmule commenting on how Dosan make sure to greet Dalmi’s mom as well.
JP always so brusque: “If you’re sick of it, just let me pay you back. If I were you, I’d have gotten it over with already.”
That’s JP’s attitude. I owe you, it’s a burden, so you should let me pay you back so that I can be rid of it and you can be rid of me … and you have no more hold over me. … Don’t know whether to commiserate with him or give him a good slap.

True. He didn’t really care about the money plant. He just used it as leverage for the letters. JP was more attached to the money plant because he tended to it.
I’m glad Dosan had knitting as an outlet. It sends a positive message that IT guys are not just coding all day and can be really creative, too.
I like how Dalmi had her hand in Dosan’s arm. “All mine!”

I didn’t like him in 2D1N. I thought he wasn’t pulling his weight with the jokes and banter because he was protecting his image too much. This happens a lot to other actors in variety shows. They have to shed their “good boy” image to be really good at variety shows.

Anyway, NJW appears to be the same in variety shows and in this “Start Up.”

This scene with Yeo Jin Goo is so cute… it looks almost like JP has fallen in love with his voice and totally can’t help himself. It’s so good that with Grandma’s help, JP has finally ‘grown up’. At last and for the first time he’s giving without conditions, not expecting anything in return.
@PM3, as I code, I can say there is something creative into that. The way you choose how, or the unexpected ideas. Instinct to debug. I can even debug non-code problematics, with a method to be cold-blod at look at it step by step. As it need rigor to do that, it’s also very helpfull for other creative activity, music, writing, etc. it need some discipline and looking for perfection. Code need to be clean with normalisation, short, well presentation. It’s an activity that spread easely to help anything else you do, creative activity first. Because a creative activity can quickly be something you do without more thinking and you drop it easely, or you do it without rigor. Writing specialy. Need to think about words and sentence, like it’s code. At least for scripting, screenplay. Maybe not so for novels. It also help a lot to structure or imagine a story, because a story need to be logical, cause and effect, and then you use to think about consequences. There is also the alternatives process, “if then, else if”, trying more possibilitys. And also the recursion, like algorythms, and finaly how you cut the code into functions, like it’s a story cut into scenes. General organisation of the code need some preparation before. You think about all the project will be made. It’s the same for preparation of a story, before start writing.
Of course, if you have really no other activity, it don’t help. Let’s say, if your freetime is just playing video-game, it’s full geek combo. 🙂

Now, I like this actor, his performance was very good in start-up. I didn’t check him so much in school2015.
Here is not happening, so the writer rework the script with the same cast. Kim Woo Bin will replace Nam Joo Hyuk, the schedule clash with Nam Joo Hyuk next drama 2521 with Kim Tae Ri.
And here we see that Sa Ha is not at all ashamed to have CS as her boyfriend. He still feels inferior to her but she deliberately introduced him to her sister as her boyfriend. So Sa Ha too has grown. Adds to the warmth of the show.
@PM3 – I have not watched 2D1N but in Unfinished Business, NJH seems like Dosan but in a grocery store – humble, safe effacing and always trying to help. Same temperament.

Yes. I like that Halmeoni had always been steadfast.
You know if you watch “Navillera” you’ll see that the grandpa there resembles the grandma here. They’re both warm-hearted people who just want to take in the outsiders. The teenager in “Navillera” at first resisted the grandpa’s friendship but he later opened up. That made all the difference.
Here, JP resisted the grandma’s friendship until late in the game. But better late than never.
I like how these two Korean dramas showed grandparents and senior citizens in a favorable, and compassionate light.
Mmmmh look like Saha officialize her relationship, and her boyfriend isn’t still aware he’s her official boyfriend. Am I wrong or I missed something ? 🙂

This scene between JP and DM is interesting.
JP says : “Even after reading your letters, I didn’t look for you for 15 years. Mr. Nam, on the other hand, went to you the day he read them. So I’m not the Nam Do San of the letters. There’s no reason you should feel sorry or blame yourself.” He admits that he’s not the person that he’d made himself out to be, whereas DS had taken the trouble to really act like DS of the letters.
In the end, although DM had wanted to speak to JP, she didn’t have to say anything and since he didn’t want thanks or apologies she just kept silent.

NJH was in another variety show, Janey. Three Meals a Day: Gochang Village.
He was with noonas and that young actress who was in “Parasite.” I only watched a few minutes of it on YT. He didn’t know much but once he was told to do something, he was on it right away. Kinda like when he did NoonGil or the cactus stuffed toy for grandma.
I like that he wasn’t a complainer…just like Dosan didn’t complain when JP mistreated him in the beginning.
On the bridge, JP said to all his fangirl : “Hey, I wasn’t the male lead in this drama, I know it now”. ouuuuchhh. 🙂

The SST guys are nostalgic … they even enjoyed suffering together. So JP was wrong on that score as well, DS did not need to apologise to them for wasting the years in SST. Even I feel for them LOL.

How start the story ? I don’t know, but it could be the usual painfull things : Dosan and Dalmi are separated, for a reason we will learn in the drama.

Saha realized that CS was sticking to her terms of nondisclosure despite their agreement chafing him. I’m glad that she found another way of “proving” to him that she liked him. The nondisclosure only applied to the workplace, anyway. She wasn’t restricted from telling family about her new relationship.
I just realized the actor that played “new samsan tech guys” is the one who is Chaerok’s friend in Navillera !!

It would have been funny if the two women went at it to “protect” their men, but I’m glad that Dalmi took the high road and didn’t retaliate. She couldn’t be seen as favoring one guy over the other.
SST OG in their rooftop office. They really have a good relationship- they can cry with each other and also enjoy their victories together. while DS feels bad about the years they spent there (no Thanks to JP’s insinuations), YS and CS miss the place and their experiences there – hardships and all.

IJ opens up the music box. The box was broken but it fixed itself? I think DM fixed it but wouldn’t admit it to IJ.
I like that In Jae returns the 10,000 Won and says DM should scale up. Changed her mind because she does not want her to be obedient, ie does not want to treat her the way ex-step-dad did, trying to break her and keep her on the leash.

Season 2 : granma die. (or she die before beginning ?). I imagine the scene : it’s first time Dalmi and Dosan see each other again, after a long time.
There is a lot of possible plots.
Maybe the big plot-twist is when JP get the girl. But in the end ? ah ah, suspens. If Dalmi and Dosan reconciliate, there will be mass suicide of JP fangirls.
The problem to start with a separation is about how it is about the company. Who work with who ?
How I like this scene, with Halmeoni remembering a time when her son was alive.
From Start Up I got to live even more, the actor Kim Joo-Hun, who plays their Dad, Seo Chung-Myung.
How I like that they are focused to show us in this episode, how to fix human relationships.
@Ella, yes, I like that In Jae no longer minds DM following her around, and accepts DM as independent and different, but capable.
Dir Yoon wants to invest in Cheongmyeong herself… So in the end Dir Yoon couldn’t invest in the father’s company but she invests in his children’s company. What a nice completion of the circle.
That was a great closure for Grandma’s story – to have her family together again. ❤️❤️❤️

The praying scene is so cute. I agree with DM… first we pray, but we also make it happen. We shouldn’t pray and do nothing, but work towards what we pray for.
DS was so bashful about her forcing that kiss on him LOL. Almost looked like he was struggling in the kiss.

DS came and wrote “Follow your dream” and he took the hand of DM, his dream and it’s true he’s been following her lead, following his dream.

What a nice way to end … JP and DM hand-in-hand walking into the future with the support of IJ and JP. They have gone public and are a listed company. So much to look forward to after being a start-up just a few short years previously.

Back in the day when the soompi site was still fun (hahaha), some friends and I wrote “tag” fiction online.
I started a story about a couple, and ended it with a cliffhanger. Another person on the team picked it up where I left off, then another person continued her story and on and on. It’s called “tag” because you attach your story onto somebody’s previous story, and you call out the next person to continue your story. I don’t know what happened to it, though.
So, if you tend to write makjang, the person following you can suddenly twist the situation and make a comedy. If I remember correctly, I always set the story up so the couple would die together, and the person writing after me was always rescuing the couple from the “jaws of death.” 🙂
Anyway, you can’t make Start-Up makjang for Dosan and Dalmi. They have one of the best and satisfying HEA in kdramaland.

@PM3, it’s a cool idea, entertaining.
But I don’t watch makjang like these one : I choose stories with structure. You can’t throw plot-twist from nowhere. Of course it happened like that on some older dramas (daily dramas mostly), some writers did that. But that’s not the good way. 😉
For a forum story, it’s still nice. ^^
Maybe there is a way to check the whole story after and spot what was the good points. Then rewrite all more seriously. Then, as you are a specialist, you can put many Easter Eggs. 😉
It’s been such a journey for me living StartUp here, I will miss these rewatch. I hope I can find a new kdrama that got me interested again to join another discussion. I will join the Hospital Playlist rewatch for the time being. Thank you all.
