Although I haven’t begun to watch this show, I can already tell the difference between the dad and the new guardian from the way they laid out the breakfast table.

Ugh! Everything’s askew: the placemats, flatware, milk box and yogurt. A spoon and a knife are missing. The apple isn’t centered. Even the eggs are falling off the toast. This is a distressing sight for someone with OCD. 🙂

Let’s enjoy the show!

Thanks @pkml3, for a brand new thread. Now we can start commenting on Episodes 6 onwards (with SPOILER WARNINGS) so that those who’ve watched most of the show can read or join in with the comments.

  2. @packmule since you mention about the new guardian’s behavior. I was afraid at first, wondering how Geu Ru will react to this messy samchun. But surprisingly, for someone like Geu Ru, for me he was handling the distressing sight very well. I believe because his dad taught him well too.

  3. The elderly couple double suicide did me in. The flowers. Their shared devotion to each other. Thank goodness for MinJi the student. What a heart of gold she had. And we get introduced to URim the social worker. Who is played by actress SooYoung (she is KyungHo’s – JungWan in Hospital Playlist – long time girlfriend). Gah the tears just flowed. Have to take a breather. But the dynamic between the unlikely trio is gold. I can’t stop laughing at GR’s matter of factly assessment of Uncle’s predicament. Your ears are pink 😂. Then the gift of Dahlias from URim to Uncle 🤣. Again GR had to explain the meaning of the flowers to him. Love it. I like how their banter lifts the somber mood of the cases.

  4. Maybe you should have a “tissue” rating for each episode to denote how sad it is, @nrllee so other viewers can be prepared? Or a crying 😭 emoji.

    Example:
    Ep 1 is 🤧🤧
    Ep 2 is 🤧🤧🤧

    And so on.

Yes. I’ve been seeing SooYoung a lot lately. She’s also in “I Married My Anti-fan.”

I hope this episode on elderly deaths — and films about growing old — will lead people to reflect about how society treat and take care of our senior citizens. That’s what I loved about “Navilleria.” It got the message across without virtue-signaling or being preachy.

  5. I binge-watched Move to Heaven a week ago. I shed tears using my hand sleeve… what a heart warming drama, I love it.
And Geu Reu is the smartest one who is surprisingly can adjust with his uncle’a behavior.
I like all the episodes except the one that has a gay doctor with the cellist love story.
No offense about it, just a personal reason, and their acting is good.

  6. @packmule3 I think it’s subjective? The way they’ve segmented the series with episodes is rather abrupt for my taste? It feels like you need to just keep watching because each episode just feeds into the next. And the eps are short (45min) which makes it a test of your resolve to just hit pause. I just decided to pause the eps just before the start of another case. That way each case has time for me to digest it.

Ep 1 is about Workplace negligence. Hard working son with deaf/mute parents. 😢😢

Ep 2-3 was about the neglect of a parent with dementia 😡😢 (I felt more angry than teary with this one)

Ep 3-4 where a young kindergarten female teacher was killed by her stalker ex boyfriend. 😡 (I was angry, no tears)

Ep 5 was about same-sex relationships. A cellist and a doctor. The doctor’s parents disapproved of his relationship. I didn’t cry with this one at all, just contemplative. I did like the final scene where the rooftop was used…and the train pulled away signifying the departed leaving.

Ep 6 Elder abuse and a husband-wife who decided to leave the world together. 😢😢😢😢

  7. Thanks, nrllee. I’ll post your rating system up on top later. 👍

  8. I also cried much in the eps 6. The haraboji has this kind face when he smiled. Oh I really hate the guy who scolded the school girl that wanted to give haraboji the air conditioner. I mean, why!
I also cry again when surprisingly the funeral of haraboji and wife is also attended by his old colleague who happened to be someone who is respected in a big company. So previously when almost no one pay respect towards them, after his old colleague come to their funeral, many employees also followed him pay respect for haraboji and his wife. *cry cry cry*

ahh this eps 6 also special because for me because of SooYoung. I don’t know why but I like her already. I just saw her performance in Run On, New Year Blues, So I Married the Anti Fan. And here, even though it’s not much but I like her vibes with Samchun Lee Je Hoon (especially when Geu Ru said that his ears..or face.. were turning red).. Oh I wish to see them more. I think them as a pair would be somehow cute. If the season 2 will really be produced later (I heard that the trio will definitely join if netflix made season 2), I hope SooYoung could participate too. 😀
P.S.: @nrllee have you seen how sweet is Kyungho towards SooYoung? I saw some old pics from internet, it looks like after they had a date and making this heart shape with his hand saying good bye to each other. It is ironic that Kyungho often casted as the cold guy, but in actual life he seems like super kind and sweet. lol.

  9. @moonstar512 I couldn’t stop laughing at GR’s assessment of Uncle. But yes I like SooYoung too. She suits the role well. She has this maturity about her that I like. She has a good level head on her shoulders. They are the sweetest couple. I adore how mature they are as a couple in the entertainment industry.

  10. ^I meant KyungHo and her as the sweetest couple.

  11. I just found out that lee Jae Wook was in this drama too. Which are his episodes?

  12. @SnowFlower I think he’s a cameo. He plays one of SangGu’s boxing friends? I seem to recall seeing a still pic of the 2 of them in boxing gear. I haven’t got to that ep yet. Maybe Ep7? I watched to Ep6.

  13. @Snowflower, @nrllee – it was a pleasant surprise to see Lee Jae Wook in Ep7! I wouldn’t have guessed he was the boxer in coma.

I’ve finally watched all the last episodes of MTH. In the tissue ratings, Ep 10 took the most ie. 3 tissues to get through (which is a lot for me).

    SPOILERS

I’m glad that the lady Prosecutor took GR seriously to end the illegal fights that could have damaged Sang Gu beyond recovery. Sang Gu’s admission into the Han family meant so much more to him than he would admit. I was particularly touched by the tears that welled in his eyes when he heard that GR still chose him.

It was lovely to see the growing consideration that GR, Sang Gu and Na Mu had for each other. For Na Mu that attachment to MTH even trumped her attachment to her mother.

It was fitting that GR was able to help his own father with his final move, and to hear and see his father’s message from the grave. It was the one missing gift that GR was blind to, with regards to himself, even though he’d insisted on bringing that gift to all his MTH clients.

While he could not abide hugs with people to offer a physical connection, he was able to hug the urn and the tree to derive comfort and maintain a link with his loved ones. There is something so poignant about him feeling so much, without being able to express it in the usual way.

Show has left me in a thoughtful and hopeful state, with much to ponder.

  15. Thanks for the spoilers, GB. Is this the end of the kdrama or is there a Season 2, you think?

I saw “Mad For Each Other” on Netflix. I watch the first Ep, only 30 minutes per Ep and I don’t know what to make of it.

A paranoid girl meets a man with anger management issues. 🤔

  16. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@pkml3 The way Netflix calls it Season 1 always gives the impression that they aim to make a 2nd season. At the very end, show introduced a new character as if for a 2nd season too. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

As for the other show “Mad for Each Other”… Here’s MDL’s synopsis.
“About two people with their own painful stories who go through a complicated process of hurting and healing while falling in love with each other.

No Hwi Oh is a detective in the violent crimes division of the Gangnam Police Station. He thinks that he is doing well until his life suddenly takes a turn and he becomes a “crazy” person who can’t hold in his anger about anything.

Lee Min Kyung is a woman who is caught up in her own delusions and compulsions. She had lived an ordinary life as a pretty woman with a respectable job until “that incident” that caused everything in her life to break down. As a result, she was unable to trust anyone and is caught in a prison of her own making. Her delusions also have the unfortunate side effect of making everyone else around her angry.” – https://mydramalist.com/79527-the-crazy-guy-in-the-district

Not sure if it’s wise to pair up a person who provokes anger with someone with anger-management issues! LOL.

  17. Thanks.

I thought the two would kill each other before the end of the half hour. Apart from the toilet humor (which I didn’t appreciate), it was fun to watch their first fateful first encounter. Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. The editing was clever, too, because both of them shared the same psychiatrist, and they were unloading their problems about each other on the poor psychiatrist. lol.

I’ve too much on my plate right now, so I’ll just put this on the back burner. Anyway, I think this should be binge-able since each episode is about 30-minute long.

Thanks again for looking it up for me. . 🙂

@pkml3, I came across a first impressions review of Ep 1-3 of Mad for Each Other from DB. It sounds ‘hopeful’.

    https://www.dramabeans.com/2021/05/mad-for-each-other-episodes-1-3-series-review/

  19. Ep7 Lee JaeWook made a cameo. A boy from SangGu’s past. The reason why SG was in jail and riddled with guilt. He dies after being in a coma for a long time. Injury caused by a fight with SG. Didn’t cry in this ep.

Ep8 SG goes missing. GR decides to looks for him by putting up posters with the most unflattering photo of him (Looking for missing uncle. Filthy, loud, good at fighting) 😂😂😂. More backstories – GR and his dad (and a promise to SG). More heartwarming than sad.

Ep9 about stateless children Matthew Green/Kang Seong Min. This was enlightening. I never knew it could happen but it does. 😢

    Ep10 backstory for GR 😭😭😭😭😭

  20. But that ending though? Hmm… with the butterfly and the girl with the bob cut.. you know what? I was half expecting it to be Girl Deity from DAYS 😂. Until they revealed her face…not her… 😂

  21. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@nrllee that last scene girl, actress Lee Re was in Hello Me and Start-Up. She’s only 15-16 years old and has worked in at least 8 movies and 12 dramas.

I was wondering why we were not shown her face immediately. There was not reason to ‘troll’ us, since she’s a new character. Perhaps show wants us to remember her face, because they plan for a S2 with her in it.

  22. Thanks @GB. Yes it was a cliffhanger of sorts? She said she was going to die. I think we weren’t shown her face because the camera was following GR’s eyes. People with Aspergers find it really hard to maintain eye contact. They avoid it. That’s why we only get to see her face at the end when GR looks up at her because it dawns on him what she’s requesting? Was he worried she was planning on taking her own life? Like the old couple? She didn’t give him a date though. And she didn’t look particularly sick either so what was her reason for her impending death?
