There’s just too many dramas in June to even attempt to juggle them.
I’m going to continue watching:
Bossam: airs on Sat and Sun; 10 more episodes to go; ends on Jul 4
Doom at Your Service: airs on Mon and Tues; 8 more episodes; ends on Jun 29
Sell Your Haunted House: airs on Wed and Thurs; last 3 episodes;
and I’ve a new addition:
My Roommate is a Gumiho: airs Wed and Thurs; it just started so 14 more episodes; ends Jul 15.
I have to write my First Impressions on this. It’s a low-key version of “Doom at Your Service.” Maybe I should make a comparative analysis of the two kdramas like they did with Original Oreos and Thin Oreos?? lol.
Here’s what’s new for June:
1. Monthly Home Magazine
The title is actually “Monthly Magazine Home” but the order of the words jars my senses. lol.
Synopsis from inkistyle.com:
The plot of ‘Monthly House’ revolves around the life of one of the editors of Monthly House Magazine, Na Young-Won (Jung So-Min). She’s been with the real estate magazine for 10 years but has yet to purchase her own home. On the other hand, Yoo Ja-Sung (Kim Ji-Seok) is the CEO of Monthly House Magazine. He becomes the new owner of the house which Young-Won rents.

Cast:
Jung So-Min (“Because This is My First Life”) and Kim Ji-Seok (“Top Star Yoo Baek” and “Where Camellia Blooms”)
This should be a good pairing for a romcom. They both can ham it up.
Episodes: 16
Start Date: Wednesday, June 16
Airs on Wed and Thurs
Where to Watch it:
Network: JTBC
2. Hospital Playlist 2
This kdrama doesn’t need an introduction here on this blog.
Start Date: Thursday, June 17
This blog is a safe space for Flower Gardeners.

3. Nevertheless
Synopsis from inkistyle
The plot is about Park Jae-Eon (Song Kang) who seems to have a nice and cheerful personality but is actually hesitant to be in a relationship with anyone. He then meets his fellow art student Yoo Na-Bi (Han So-Hee), who had a hurtful past with her first love.
source: https://inkistyle.com/new-korean-dramas-june-2021/
Cast:
Song Kang (“Navillera”) and Han So Hee (her face looks familiar, but I don’t think she’s ever starred in a show that I’ve seen before)
This is a college romance that I can binge-watch when the series is over. No point in cluttering up my schedule now. Nevertheless, I am excited to see Song Kang again. Seems like he’s a Netflix regular: “Love Alarm,” “Sweet Home,” “Love Alarm 2,” “Navillera,” and now this.
Episodes: 10
Start Date: Saturday, Jun 19
Airs on Saturdays only
Where to Watch it: Netflix. Ooooh. This is tempting. I don’t have to wait for subs. lol.
Network: jTBC
4. Gokushufudo
This was recommended by by @Welmaris:
@Packmule3, I wasn’t sure where to do a writeup about a Japanese series my daughter introduced me to, but this Mother’s Day thread isn’t too off base. The series is called Gokushufudo: The Way of the Househusband. Based on a manga series, it is on Netflix in an anime version, and on Blitz Fansub as a live action version. I’m watching the live action, because I find the anime too choppy for me. The premise is that it shows the day-to-day life of an ex-yakuza boss who left that life to become a househusband to a career woman and a stepfather to her young daughter. Here’s a link to a live-action promotional video that was done to advertise the manga series:
Here is a link to Episode 1 of the live-action version on Blitz Fansub:
https://blitzfansub.com/gokushufudo-episode-1/.Those who like anime can find that version on Netflix.
Here’s some of the dialogue from Episode 1.
Tatsu “The Immortal Dragon” is talking to an underling from his former gang who wants him to come back.
Masa (while taking a group photo after a cooking class): Say croquette!…my ass! Shit, I almost forgot what I was here for. I ain’t got time for this shit. Say croquette… What a loada crap! What the fuck is a househusband?! Where the hell is Immortal Tatsu?!
Tatsu: Masa! Listen here. A housewife wakes up before anyone else [to] cook for her husband and kids, do the dishes and laundry, go pick up the kids after that, feed the kid and bathe the kid, put the kid to bed, and do more laundry after the husband sleeps! By that time, it’s already midnight. It’s hard to lead a gang but nothing is harder than being a housewife!…I decided I’m gonna protect my family with my own way. I can’t protect my family with violence. (Then proceeds to beat up the punk who disrespects the croquettes he made.)
Episodes: 10
This dorama ended last year
Where to Watch it: https://blitzfansub.com/
5. Love Me If You Dare
As for Cdrama, I’m still working through:
You are My Hero
Love Me If You Dare
Hello, Mr. Gu
Please Feel at Ease Mr Ling
I like my Cdramas light and fluffy, but “Love Me If You Dare” was an exception because it had Sandra Ma, and the male lead is a…
It’s a “Sherlock Holmes” type of Cdrama. The romantic scenes are few and far in between, but when they happened, they were memorable.
24 Episodes
Fully subbed on Viki
Also on Youtube.
Here’s a fanvid.
That’s it on my list for June 2021. As always, moderation is key.
I am already on the Truck of Doom (DAYS) so I can only manage one other and that would be HP2 😂
Hahaha I watched a few episodes of the anime version of that Gokushufudo last month with my nieces and nephews🤣🤣🤣 Yeah the story was choppy. Perhaps it was intentionally so. But he was really funny🤣🤣🤣 all tough up front but his output i.e. food etc are excellent! Look at him in apron, fighting for coupons and sales like going to war🤣🤣🤣🤣
The title in Netflix is The Way of The House Husband.😁
Howdy! I’m watching My Roommate Is A Gumiho. I’m liking it so far. ☺️
I’ll definitely watch HP2, that’s a given but other than that I have two other cdramas.
I took a peek at the comic version on Netflix. It looks funny, Miracle23.
😂 Yes. Please. I need you on HP2, nrllee.
Thanks @pkml3. I’m making myself too busy.
There’s the:
HP rewatch
Healer rewatch
And there are the currently airing/to be aired:
SYHH
DAYS
HP2
Mad for Each Other – skip-watching. I skip-watched Ep 1-3. It’s odd and I want to see how those 2 antipathetic characters actually get together.
My Roommate is a Gumiho is under consideration. I’ve watched My Girlfriend is a Gumiho before, so I’d like to see the latest version of gumiho in the present day.
Roommate is a Gumiho is funny (except for the toilet humor which I skipped). I watched it with zero expectations, so I’m just there to look at the male statue…err… lead. 😂😂
Thought it was funny when Hyeri wondered whether he was human or a signboard. In a bit, she decided he was an angel.
One thing for sure, he isn’t Doom. 😂
Hahaha I saw the toilet scene and it was funny and does that even work? 😱😂
I liked that she wanted to give him conditions too and made him quit his 400 year old smoking habit. 😂 She was embarrassed.
I was laughing hard when the playboy guy sat with them at the gathering and then tried to put his hand on her shoulder but she kept putting it down and then she rolled off away from him when she fell 😂
I haven’t watched this ML ever but he’s fine. ☺️
My Roommate is a Gumiho :” It’s a low-key version of “Doom at Your Service.”
totally agree! the funny thing is when i watch MRIAG opening credit, i was thinking about DAYS opening credit explanation here in BOD. haha
Gokushufudo : still KIV. watched the anime one and i quite like it. may consider to watch after finishing the never ending k drama list. heee
Yes, it wasn’t just the hand evasion, @agdr03, that was funny. My sides hurt from laughing when she rolled away from him. 🤪😂😂 I’ve never seen anything like that.
Me too! 😂 She rolled a few times over as well. 😂
Where are you watching this, @azuyim? There’s no opening credit on dramacool. 😂
I’ll open a thread for us, @agdr03. Wait a sec.
Cool! Thanks! ☺️
I’m watching it on IQIYI. There’s opening credits there.
yeah I watched the opening credit on IQIYI 🙂
Okay, I’ll check it out later. I opened a Gumiho Roommate thread for us.
Going to check out:
Monthly Home Magazine cause I love both main leads. It’s coming to IQIYI.
Nevertheless
Thai drama Boss & Me starring Push & Aom! Tentative air date on June 5, 2021, and coming soon to VIU so there will be subs! Push is my fave Thai actor and I love Aom since Full House Thai. I’ve been waiting over 2 years for this rom com remake of the Chinese original. Hopefully worth the wait.
The Chinese Rom Com Love In Time is finally Edited all episodes at Viki, so I’m going to watch that as well in June.
I’m ready for some summer love!
“Boss and Me”?! I wouldn’t mind watching that, too. Wasn’t that the written by the same author who wrote “Love O2O”?
I am currently watching Bossam, Youth of May, and Nirvana In Fire, which are all emotional heavy-hitters. I will definitely watch Hospital Playlist 2 and pay attention to word of mouth about the rom coms. After Navillera, I am a new fan of Song Kang.
Thanks packmule30 for the drama lists.
I may watch cdrama please feel at ease Mr ling whilst waiting for HP2. 🤗
Yes, @pm3 you are correct. Gu Man, who wrote Love O2O, is the author of the source novel for Boss & Me.
I’m very excited for this Thai remake as I love the leads and Thailand usually does a nice job with remakes from other countries. The original Chinese drama version was very cute so I’m looking forward to seeing how Push & Aom take on the roles. For me, Push really excel in rom com but he’s been focusing on melodrama roles lately so I am so happy to see him back in rom com for this drama. I think this role will suit Aom very well too.
P.S. I believe the original Chinese version of Boss & Me starring Zanilla Zhao & Hans Zheng is available to watch with English subs on YouTube if anyone wants to check that out.
Tell me how “Please Feel At Ease, Mr Ling” goes, @sni75. I like the actress there, too. She’s been very busy these past couple of years with drama after drama. Good for her!
Oh you haven’t got time to even have a sneak peak at PFAEML? I’m liking it a lot because you just enjoy it, no thinking needed and Lusi is very good as usual. Love her! 🥰 The ML is very tall! 😆
🙁 No time this week, @agdr03. Maybe next week I can sneak a peek.
Are all the eps subbed? With Chinese dramas, I want to know the ending first because I don’t want to watch 123495843671236918376 episodes (lol) just for the story to end unhappily. Satisfaction must be guaranteed because I can’t get my hours back.
So true about wasting time only to realise it’s a sad ending. But I don’t think it’ll have a sad ending because it’s a romcom. ☺️
It’s subbed up to episode 9 in Viki. Not all episodes are out yet unless it’s VIP in other sites? But lots of nice kisses so I’m a happy camper. 😉 Fast story too.
Yay, another Song Kang Kdrama! He is a Netflix favorite.
Watching HP2 definitely! And Healer rewatch. And DAYS.
My first Sandra Ma Cdrama was “Love me If You Dare” and the ML is very cool, smart and easy on the eyes! I enjoyed the suspense and whodunit.
Noted @packmule3.
Understand storyline adapted from a chinese web novel I accidently picked up a president. Release date 20/5/21, 24 episodes, main leads Liu Te, Zhao Lu Si.
I haven’t watch any of Liu Te acting before, but I have seen Zhao Lu Si shows before. She is cute and I like her. From the synopsis, looks like this comedy can be a light and fluffy to your taste? Kkkk
A short synopsis (credit source: chinese drama info; bumblethunderbeast at Mydramalist)
A story of how the ‘rabbit’ (Gu An Xin) brings home a ‘big bad wolf’ (Ling Yue) when she chances upon the hotshot executive after an accident. His injuries and the accident were the result of an ugly fight for succession at a powerful conglomerate. But none of that was evident initially; he first appeared stupid but slowly proved himself to be a genius. With two people so different from each other living together, what kind of relationship will they have?
Wow! We suddenly have so many great recommendations. It’s a dizzying range of shows.
I have watched “Love Me if You Dare” and liked it.
I forgot to mention that I’m still in the middle of Reply 1997 as well, which adds to my busy-ness. I want to watch the guess-the-husband game in full swing, although I already know the answer. I don’t know whether to applaud or boo the Shin-Lee duo for their shallow manipulations.
There are many ways to inject mystery and to get viewers to clamour to know the solution, but while I didn’t feel it so strongly in Reply 1988, the campy way they do it in Reply 1997 gets me rolling my eyes.
I won’t have time to see any of these shows live.
The only show I will try to watch live is: The Penthouse s3.
And the next must-see is of course Yumi’s Cells.
However, I’m keeping that under my radar…
Nevertheless: at least the actors look ok.
Song Kang (love alarm), Ok.
Chae Jong Hyeop (Sisyphus), Ok.
Han So Hee (World of the married), Ok x3 !!!
She is supernaturally beautiful in this drama, but also good actress. So I didn’t have any idea of a picture for the FL of my hypothetical future drama, Alien Surgeon, I chose her ! 🙂
Monthly Magazine Home : no idea. And by chance I never saw the actors in other dramas.
The writer wrote 11 seasons of a regular drama though, which seems to be a remake of Ugly Betty. With sometimes associate writers. I guess it’s a kind of sitcom. At 20 one-hour episodes, that makes it :
220 hours of written content on this alone. 🙂
My Roommate is a Gumiho : no idea, and I have no way to compare with Doom at your service, which I haven’t seen either. Maybe, is it better as far as comedy is concerned?
HP2 : maybe, to continue the fun with all the fans. As I don’t like many points on this, I’m still curious how it’s popular. I look for maggoty doing bad things too. 🙂
Good morning, @packmule3. I think I’ll be busy with Doom and HP2, but I’m looking at some @Arishi suggestions: Healer (nearly done), My Roommate is a Gumiho (for v. shallow reasons), maybe Come and Hug Me (nature v nurture discussion). Gokushufudo seems like it would be funny to me in a similar way to Zombie Detective which I still miss. I want to see how that guy stacks up to my husband (or me or both combined). 😆
I don’t think Doom and Guhimo are the same… There are some similarities but Doom and Gumiho’s worlds are pretty different. But it’s funny that the plot ” holding hand” = healing is used in 3 airing dramas now :p
I’m interested by Home Magazine and Voice 4.
I’m not fan of the actors of Nevertheless and the story is about a bad guy. Maybe I will try.
I’m watching Doom and Gumiho! Gumiho helps lighten up the mood.
I really like Jung Somin, but will only watch Monthly Home it if I see people saying nice things about it. I absolutely loved Because this is my First Life, and I don’t want to be disappointed.
Definitely going to watch HP2.
Although May has ended, but would highly recommend ‘youth of may’. The story is so endearing. It’s heartbreaking but still can’t stop watching.
Well I’m sold on Love me if you dare then, reasons … I also have Hello Mr Gu to watch as it was recommended to me and is now finally on Viki. You are my hero is a favourite of mine because of Mika and her handsome saviour. Their dynamics are perfect.
First I’ve heard of Monthly Magazine Home but it feels like a nice one to add. I do like some older characters in kdrama.
Speaking of older characters who have some life experience already, Mad For Each Other on Netflix is short and engaging. It started last week and I am enjoying their biting confrontations. I feel sorry for him most of the time though. He comes out worse.
Thank you @packmule3 for the updates on what to watch this month.
I postpone to watch Gumiho because I heard Kang Ha Na and Kim Do Wan are still not appeared much, I wanna watch this because of them haha. But I will watch later, thank you all for the nice impressions.. after watching taxi driver, move to heaven, syhh, i think this month should be brighter for me.. wanna have more romcom / feel good drama for sure..
I will watch these dramas:
1. Continue – SYHH
2. Continue – DAYS (it’s been lingering in my head anyway)
3. HP2 (yay can’t waiit)
4. Racket Boys (it’s so fun, is there anyone here watch this???)
5. My roomate Gumiho
6. Continue – So I married anti fan. (It’s a guilty pleasure and a nice balancing for “harder” drama)
7. Monthly Magazine (because I like the cast..)
8. Nevertheless (curious of Songkang and Han so hee would be like as a couple)
9. Continue – Mad for Each Other (it’s because of the trash oppa from R94)
I watched several episodes of Gokushufudo cartoon version too and curious about the live action..
Omg.. that’s a lot.. 😅
@moonstar512, do you watch on several screens simultaneously? Seriously, I could never watch so many at once because my brain would ignite.
Kang Hana is very good in Gumiho. You will enjoy her change of direction when you get to it. Both her and Kim Do Wan’s roles are very different from Start-up.
Hahaha @Fern I only realized it when I write it out that I have watched that many series.. 😅😅
I think I need to slow down, but those series are so tempting.
Ohhh that’s interesting! Thank you for the info on their characters on Gumiho.. i will try to watch it tonight.
@moonstar512, I look forward to your take on their characters. I look forward to them meeting, which hasn’t happened as of ep. 3.
@moonstar512 I loved Racket Boys! It’s the same writer who did Prison Playbook that was really great. The young actor from CLOY and Move to Heaven is really funny in this drama.
Okay, you win, @moonstar! With all those dramas on your list, there’s no way I can compete. 🙂
Gosh moonstar512, that’s a long list you there. I can’t even stick to one without long interval in between episodes😅 in the end they just become my unfinished dramas 😂
Wow, so many suggestions from everyone! I just started Reply 1998 (watched two episodes so far) and it is so endearing already! Will try to finish it before Hospital Playlist Season two.
Thanks for everyone’s suggestions about Reply 1998! I skimmed through Reply 1997 and I wasn’t too impressed, but maybe because I’m a mom, I could relate to the characters, especially the moms, in Reply 1998 much better.
“See” some of you at the HP Episode 11 rewatch this Saturday. 🙂
Hello Everyone,
I am kinda late in the party, but DAYS has captured my whole attention these past days.
So, for ongoing I have “Doom at your Service!”
Yes, we are busy bees on the DAYS threads. Come and say hi! 🙂
I have to finish the “Taxi Driver” and “Move to Heaven”.
I am progressing with “Navillera”.
Song Kang is transforming into a wonderful actor.
As for “Nevertheless” I will binge watch it propably!
Series to start:
“My Roomate is a Gumiho” !
“Hospital Playlist S2″…just because!
and… “Voice 4″for the amazing Song Seung Heon!
Hi @Cleo and Everyone,
A little update on what I’m watching … still have to finish Reply 1997 (SIG I know is a great kisser in this one) while I continue with DAYS.
And I did start “My Roommate is a Gumiho”, and while I laughed uproariously over some parts, I can’t say that it actually captured much of my attention or engaged me. I guess I’ve become buried in DAYS too!!!
I just realised that SYHH Ep 15 is up! See ya!
@Fern, yes I did left my note on the characters on Gumiho threads.
@Sayaris, glad you enjoy Racket Boys too. Prison Playbook is one of my top list kdrama series. I like the writer and 2 eps of Racket Boys has brought me so much happiness.
@Packmule3 and @Miracle23, haha it was because I took my long leave, and there is this isolation that I had to do in these past few days so I could watch that many. Of course it’s not a competition 😅😅. Lol. Will have to start to work from office starting next week, I hope I could keep it up with my own list.
@Hatlady, if you like the parents in R1988, and if you have time, I suggest you to watch Kmovie: Pawn. Sung Dong Il (Deok Sun appa) played as a great father there too. I had so much tissues watching this.
I had almost forgotten about this? The trailer just dropped. Yang Yang and Dilraba. 😂 You are my glory
https://youtu.be/C4H0hq0R4ZM
@nrllee, do you know if it will be on Netflix, by chance? Many thanks for the reminder.
No idea @Fern. I hope so?
The trailer is saucy 😂.
YangYang – Tonight I want to stay. Is that overstepping? 😯
Dilraba (whilst sitting on his lap) – You have a beautiful and cute girlfriend. Are you happy? Are you satisfied?
YangYang – can I show you? 😯
Here’s the trailer for those who want to watch sauciness with their own eyes LOL. Don’t worry, “it’s mild!” Heheheheh!
https://wetv.vip/en/play/u37kgfnfzs73kiu?vid=t0035578mms
Waaaaa! It’s all over Instagram!
Thanks @nrllee and @GB for the link! 😘
Our Yang Yang is still hot! My gosh! But I think I’m not as excited because Yang Yang has a project with Zhao Lusi so my anticipation is more on that. 😂 But, but I’m still watching this because @Phoenix girlfriend and I love him! 🤣
Thank you @GB and @nrllee. I am in a state of anticipation. He probably wants to show her his telescope.
😊
LOL @Fern!! You naughty girl!!!
_へ__(‾◡◝ )>
(Did that smiley look telescopic?)
₍ఠ ͜ఠ₎
Yes, it looked like that. Or like a flute.
Is anyone watching Mad for Each Other? I can’t explain why, but I’m thoroughly enjoying it.
I’m letting another week of Bossam release and then I will binge it along with Youth of May.
I’ve decided to skip Doom-I’m just not that interested.
I’ve watched 1-3 of Roomate Gumiho. It’s fine-I like both main character actors but I wish I could speed it up. Just walking up stairs feels like it takes forever.
Sell your haunted house will end this week-I enjoyed it more than I expected to.
I’m really hoping for a good romance. Oh! Master was beyond a letdown.
Howdy!
Look what I saw? Another of our crush, Queen, Huang Jun Jie. ☺️ The plot looks interesting, I’ll definitely watch it. Well 🤞🏻☺️
https://www.instagram.com/p/CP2c_NBDhR0/?utm_medium=copy_link
@agdr03, he is looking very handsome in your link (she says, wading cautiously in the shallow water). And it’s got comedy as well!
@Fern, yes! HJJ is still handsome. 🥰 Where did you read the she says, wading consciously in the shallow water? 🤔
Watch it with me? 😉
@agdr03, that was me doing the wading. 😆 Cautiously, so I don’t get scolded for being a fangirl. 😈😉
Yes. I think it starts airing tonight, but may be a while before subs… Let’s check out the first episode or so.
@Fern, I told you I’m slow 🤣
I jumped in the shallow water without a care, as usual. 😂
I’ll check it out later. I have to finish these 2 cdramas then I’ll go to Truth Or Dare. 😉
I just recalled that I’m skip watching Mad For Each Other, I think it’s a great ‘pun’ of sorts for ‘Made for each Other’ because we find that finally, by Ep 9, the OTP are. It took so many misunderstandings and so much pain on the part of the ML (I skipped as much as I could) but the couple is finally on the same page, and getting themselves healed and they are no longer alone. I’m still interested in watch the end, maybe skipping a little less now!
I’m LOVING mad for each other. I wish I had waited until they’re all out though. Such a fun binge watch, I’m sure!
@birdie007 Glad that you’re enjoying the show. I’m not exactly crazy about it, because I prefer that one party does not suffer quite so much, but I’m all in for the romance of individuals who are healing themselves, while they heal each other. Love that the little women’s squad is now behind our FL, and that the convenience store part-timer is honest and reasonable. It’s good to see another motley but nice bunch of people, clearing up misunderstandings, learning to be more accepting, becoming less judgmental and pulling together. I’m almost expecting them to do nothing less than catch the criminal, Yang. LOL.
Hello everyone,
One of my gr friends made me watch the first episode of “Nevertheless”. It has adult vibes.
I have to say to everyone, that Kang Song is nailing it. He is totally different from Sweet Home and Navillera. He is a tease and he knows it. *winks*
GIF ALERT : https://64.media.tumblr.com/ed5108e1563b7b40b080ab087d3bfd53/d559ff29c803f088-db/s400x600/fbb49445d6f08cb8b64731d920e5aab44c538834.gifv
Also, forget the known line about…rameyon.
There is a new one, but I cannot share it here for spoilers! *swoons*
@Cleo, I think I was casually browsing YT and came across recommendation for some shows, including this one, “Nevertheless”. I heard that not only is Song Kang an actor that’s been anticipated, but that the actress, Han So Hee was noted for daring to play, shall we say, more steamy scenes.
@Cleo, I watched ep1 of Nevertheless also
since Netflix was strongly recommending and I wanted to check how Song Kang is doing. He is doing just fine. LOL! I agree he nails the tease to a T with his cute smile and artist vibes. This is going to be a different college based drama with some adult content than I am not used to see in kdrama. Not sure if I will stick to it, will see.
Dears @GB and @Janey,
Han So Hee’s role is a very complex role! Finally, we get to see realistic people having realistic relationships with not so good people, trying to heal after that.
@Janey we were all talking about that Tease yesterday! I am glad I can see this side of Song Kang. I think that after Lovestruck in the City we will get to see these series that are more realistic and have adult content too!
I am interested though. I want to see how this will go…*winks*
WARNING! SWOON ALERT IN FIRE MODE!!!Move along by your own accord!
https://64.media.tumblr.com/1379b7b801aaaf2c9774042ac57fe9d1/6d2d5d16ff3774a1-a4/s400x600/d48668f2b2b027b7b2f144cf6e15427d56578171.gifv
It is one drama I will watch but as it is an episode a week (refreshing), I may wait a couple of weeks before starting. My plate is full. There is a lot of hype about it and discussion about the character’s (manipulative?) approach to dating.
I hope that by the final 10 the episode there will be healing for both parties. The more mature concept is attractive although I expect hurt and angst soon. The ml actor is definitely at a high point in his career and taking a variety of roles. Love Alarm wasn’t my cup of tea but he is showing a smart approach to choosing roles.
Hello @Sandi,
I would like to pinpoint that Park Jae-Eon aka Song Kang’s character is NOT by any means manipulating!
He is a player, that is true, that doesn’t make him manipulating. The reason he became like that is not revealed yet. Also, what is being showed to us, it is not something extreme. We all know that some men are players and know how to flirt.
We have to admit though, these days flirting has come to a point where people don’t know how to do it. We are too focused on social media and don’t know how to engage to face to face conversations.
So far we get everything from Yoo Na-Bi’s POV. So, we already know who was the manipulating one, i.e. Yoo Na-Bi’s ex boyfriend.
The opening of the series shows many scenes where we get to realize how awful and unethical he was. I won’t say more because I want to give spoilers.
Also, I don’t understand why there is a hype about a series, that was marked with mature content above +19y.o. from the very beginning.
An actor’s job is to transform via his acting to several characters. I am glad that Song Kang is courageous enough to persue such roles that will show his caliber.
I am entirely sympathetic to what you wrote, hence manipulative with a question mark. We still have to find out his motives and background.
I applaud Song Kang for choosing a variety of roles. I just read he has an office romance drama with Park Min-Young of Healer fame (for those doing the Healer rewatch) coming up. So we will be seeing him onscreen for the foreseeable future.
The hype about the drama is holding me back a little. So it’s one I may prefer watching without reading too much about from social media. Sometimes I feel so old compared to most of the kdrama viewers I come across on Twitter for instance. Kdramas have tended to shy away from certain aspects of relationships even though they are implied. So maybe we will get other dramas being more brave in depicting the complexities of humans. On that note I would recommend At a distance, spring is green. It’s a similar age group but shows other struggles of that age group. It’s not what I expected from the title and it’s more interesting than I thought it would be.
@Sandi,
I understand what you are saying. What is unsettling with me is the fact that some people seem to not be able to differentiate which character is manipulative or not.
For me that is pretty scary!
You have a 30(+?) yo man who is a Professor and manipulated and did gaslighting to a 20something y.o. student Na-Bi. He took advantage of her several times and hurt her not only emotionally, but as a person. If you watch the first 10 minutes of the show you have all the data you need.
The most logical thing is to discuss that. How to be able to understand when a man
or a woman is manipulative and protect yourself from him /her.
Instead, the fuzz is about why did Song Kang choose that role of a player and how manipulative he is (?).
If you watched the whole episode, you will get to see that always he is waiting for permission.
He asked the girl: Do you want this? After he got a very clear message that she likes him. He is a flirt, but he knows his boundaries as well.
I am very sensitive about this matter.
We found out recently, in my part of the world, that the killer of a married young woman was her manipulated husband. He was saying to everyone that they were robbed and the armed robbers killed her! We are all very shaken these past days.
So, with all that in mind, I cannot let anyone have a misunderstanding about this.
We should talk when something is wrong. We should arise awareness.
That’s what I am doing at the moment…
I watched episode 1 of Nevertheless. I agree that the professor was a serial womaniser AND quite horribly manipulative and cruel. As to Song Kang’s character, we haven’t seen much about him yet except that he is drawn to Na-bi and she to him, albeit reluctantly. Both leads are very good looking. He seems used to being able to use his looks to befriend women although hopefully not in a sinister way like the professor. The topic of manipulation in relationships and about relationships is interesting and I’m glad it is being discussed. I also feel that relates as well to the topic of peer pressure – there seems to be a lot of frank discussion and possibly rivalry between the students about dating. I will watch the next episode to see where it’s heading.
@Fern, where have we seen the actress in “Nevertheless” before? I’ve a feeling we’ve watched her in a drama before.
I want to watch Song Kang in another drama but not now. Too many to take in all at once. 🙂
@PM3 – Han So Hee was in 100 days my Prince and World of the Married where she was the young mistress. I have not watched either shows but I heard about WOM a lot.
@Cleo, @Fern – major red flags on Nabi’s ex boyfriend as you have already emphasized. He should have been reported for inappropriate sexual conduct with a student and that sculpture was a breach of privacy. I was super incensed! The camera angles where they were not showing his full face added to his dubiousness and gaslighting. That was pretty good use of the camera. I’m glad she had the guts to break up with him.
We’ll have to see what Song Kang’s character back story is.
@packmule3. Han So Heee was in 100 Days My Prince. Also After the Rain, Abyss, World of the Married.
Kalimera @Fern and @Janey!
I am glad we are on the same page.
I am waiting for Song Kang’s character back story as well!
I am curious, if we are going to “listen” to his POV as well.
I was thinking about what Na-bi knows about Jae-Eon. He seems to be going on a blind date when they first locked eyes. He had a phone call in her presence and answered, ‘What are you doing?…I miss you, too…Are you going to sleep?…Yes.’ Going by the subs this seems fairly neutral – could be a family member even. She thinks she sees him with another girl at the library, but I didn’t see his tattoo. I wasn’t sure if it was actually him or if it just looked like him.
I guess I’m trying to say, he may not actually be quite the player she thinks he is. She is very insecure – keeps asking about his girlfriend. -Got possessive about the last cigarette even though she doesn’t smoke. -is equating his chat with her ex’s, -seems to be obsessed with him. She lied that she didn’t know him, that she disappeared because she was drunk, that she wasn’t looking for anything when she stopped by the outdoor studio. Why?
Dear @Fern,
The scene where she took by force that last cigarette was the sign, Jae Eon wanted to proceed with that burning question later on.
She gave him the green light in a very loud way, to proceed with his flirt.
I agree it was a possessive move by her part.
Don’t we all know that you have to give the green light in order the other person to proceed with what he is going to do in such a situation?
As for your question “Why?”
The answer to that is :
She is totally insecure, and I can understand her.
She is the victim of verbal abuse and gaslighting.
Those people held scars and don’t let their guard down easily.
She should see a specialist to understand in which ways you have been traumatized.
She is projecting what her EX did with JE and that is totally wrong. It is not a mere comparizon, it is deeper.
As fot that scene, I think she was hallucinating.
She wanted to see him again and so, she did.
@Cleopatra and @Janey, I guess we shall have to wait for the next episode for his POV, even if then. He does seem very taken by Na-bi, perhaps because of her reluctance, perhaps not. I liked the scene when she dabbed him with paint and they started messing around.
Nabi seems a bit odd about the smoking. She wants to try it because it’s something he does although she knows she doesn’t smoke and that it’s unhealthy. He is the one who stops her. She seems to be used to getting damaged perhaps from her past relationship she can’t get out of that mindset. If I were to project from the teasers, I would say that Na-bi will enter into the sort of shallow relationship with him that her friends experience but it may end up being unhealthy for both of them.
@Cleopatra, kalispera. I agree with you about Na-bi being traumatised. There is something odd in her relationship with her mother, who is only 1 hour away by subway. She said she wouldn’t go home because ‘he’ was there. I am taking this to mean a male relative or stepfather. I may be overthinking, but it has made me wonder if the professor wasn’t her first abusive relationship. Even her friend said something about Na-bi choosing losers. I totally agree that she should see a specialist.
It makes me wonder how she will react if Jae Eon puts her in his artwork. Already he is sketching her.
I also hope that she doesn’t flip the tables if she becomes dominant in a relationship to become the person to do the gaslighting because that it what she has learnt previously. I think if this drama gets too melodramatic, I will drop it – I don’t need the angst.
Dear All,
agdr03 mentioned the C-drama Truth or Dare. It is ongoing with only about 7 episodes translated, but I’m finding hilarious. HJJ playing a young lord with Robin Hood escapades and the FL Teresa Li is the street performer mis-directed to his home in place of his designated bride. The plot is absurd and the acting very funny. -A great escape from aggro and doom.
I watched the first episode of nevertheless. I liked both main leads as far as acting goes, but I just didn’t like the way watching made me feel. I love an escape from realism and maybe this was a bit too real??
Very interested to see what the next episode is like. Maybe he has a child? A disabled sister? Does she have a cruel stepfather? Will he show her his butterflies? 😜
I’m going to stick with it a while longer but won’t hang around if it’s too…I don’t know the word. I like angst and I like merely, perhaps I just don’t like abuse??? I can’t put my finger on it.
Hi, @Birdie007, I understand. I think it’s the past and potential abuse that gives ME angst. I don’t mind realism, either if it’s tempered with resolution, growth and humour. If that’s not there, but just gets darker, I’ll leave off watching.
Hi All, What are you watching in July 2021?
@Cleo and I are considering “You are my Spring” which is airing tonight. From https://asianwiki.com/You_Are_My_Spring
“Network: tvN
Episodes: 16
Release Date: July 5, 2021 —
Runtime: Monday & Tuesday 21:00”
Kalimera my lovely @GB,
From the Ongoing I am watching:
My roommate is a Gumiho
Hospital Playlist Season 2
Nevertheless
I also watch :
Mad for Each Other
Tell me What You Saw
And I will start tonight : You are my Spring! 🙂
Hi my dear @Cleo
I’m watching similar shows, but may be slow in catchng up because I have more RL things to see to.
Currently:
My Roommate is a Gumiho
Hospital Playlist Season 2
Healer (Rewatching on and off… still so much fun!)
You are My Spring (I hope to start this. I may only watch it tomorrow and maybe can only comment on it way after that.)
Completed:
Did a quick watch of the teenage version of Goblin/Gumiho : Kiss Goblin
Mad for Each Other
I noticed that I’ve completed 7 shows in 2021… that averages to 1 new show a month! 😉
Dear All,
I can’t even believe that we’re into July already. I am watching MRIAG, HP2, Healer. Please let me know if You are My Spring looks worthwhile.
I’m feeling like a geezer about Healer. 🧐 I wasn’t watching Kdramas when it first aired, but it’s still on Netflix in the UK. I’m thinking to myself, they don’t make shows like this anymore… 🤦♀️ I don’t know what it is about Healer – the tempo, the character development, the actors themselves – but it seems more perfect than a lot of current shows. It’s also not clever in an overly self-conscious way.
Hi @Fern, I’m glad you’re liking Healer. Except for some of the bad guy bits, it was absolutely smashing!
To follow-up on watching Seo In Guk and Lee Soo Hyuk again in the same outing, I’m stealing time to watch the movie, Pipeline now. Just getting past the one-third of show. It’s good, as movies go.
@Growing Beautifully, is Pipeline found on the small screen? I thought it was a cinema release. Let me know if you think it worthwhile. It’s a rare heist film that has a happy ending, so I’m wondering how it might play out.
As to Healer, yes. I’m reading the Dramabeans recaps, too. The moderator was very good.
Hey!
Speaking of movies I want to watch Seobok. Pipelines seems interesting too!
Currently watching HP2. Other than that I want to pick up Pinocchio again if time allows (up to ep 15). It touches on media bias and I found it interesting. With DAYS finished, may be I can catch up on that again.
@Fern and @Viva, I’ve just finished Pipeline. It was 1 hour 48 minutes long and available on Dramanice.
It was fun… some moments of angst, lots of suspense in the 2nd half, several fights, some of which were funny because the thieves were not thugs themselves, and yes, a happy ending. We get to see SIG and LSH trying to beat each other up, LOL.
If you watch it, be sure to stay for the end credits. The crew hams it up big time.
I have started – slowly, very slowly 🤣🤣🤣 – to complete my unfinished dramas. If I don’t finish them, they will go to the drop list:
Undercover Ep. 12 onwards
Law School Ep. 9 onwards
Mad about Each Other Ep. 7 onwards
River Where Moon Rises Ep. (Not sure where I left off – haven’t restarted yet. In queue🤭🤭🤭)
So Not Worth It (light watch, only watch ep. when I feel like in need of some good comedy)
Sell Your Haunted House Ep. 4 onwards (haven’t restarted, in queue)
Currently airing drama in progress watch:
HP 2
Penthouse 3
Devilish Judge
You Are My Spring (start tonight🤭)
Dropped:
Dark Hole
Move to Heaven
Mine
I want to have a look at Devilish Judge.
I am watching the c-drama Truth or Dare. It is comic, so it’s a relief from the heavy dramas.
I watched ‘So I Married the Anti-fan’, thinking with so many re-makes it must be worthwhile, but I didn’t like it. It was too full of love triangles and miscommunication for my taste.
Hello July!!! Hello everyone!
When I thought I am finally caught up, I missed Healer rewatch! It’s a long weekend so doing other stuff with the family, I did a bit of driving that I was not used to anymore and I was super exhausted I slept in.
I’m watching HPL2, MRIAG and Nevertheless. @Cleo @Fern – I’ve seen Ep3 and things are getting hot and steamy. After skirting the attraction, I want to see them as a “couple” together so I will stick it out. It’s my lazy Sunday watch. Oh, and The actor who played JaeSun in Sisyphus is there, I did not notice him in the intro scenes but he was shown briefly in Ep3. Another reason to continue watching.
I started Kissing Goblin due to Tiger in MRIAG. It’s only ~12 mins per ep. for total of 12 eps.
Completed: DAYS, HPL S1 rewatch, You are My Hero, Jang Ok Jung
Incomplete: RWTMR, Love Story in Harvard
This is like a report card! LOL 😂
Hi @Janey and @Fern
You’ve reminded me that I did try: Episode 1 of Devil Judge.
Ji Sung looked fine and I liked the other ML, Jin Young, and his relationship with Park Gyu Young (last seen as Joo ri in It’s OK to Not Be OK). However the show itself didn’t really pull me in. There was something deliberately stylistic about it. It was pretty cold most of the time, except for Jin Young and Park Gyu Young.
I found it weird that the judge’s robes looked like Catholic priests’ albs or cassocks with stoles, and how the incomplete words of Jesus Christ “forgive them for they do not know what they do” popped up out of the blue.
I believe the main thrust of the Show is to guess if the devil judge is a good guy or not. And to an extent, the same thing about Jin Young’s character. I guess I’ll have to watch more to see if Show elicits positive feelings or not, although I’m not sure I want to seriously watch it.
Kiss Goblin was a ‘juvenile’ level show, not meant to be weighty at all, and yet, I can’t say it was fluffy either. It was a nice ‘break’ from the angsty-ness of DAYS. Bae In Hyuk (Gye Seon Woo in MRIAG) is the ML here, but I feel he is better in MRIAG.
@GB – Kiss Goblin is so cute and such a easy, fast watch. Predictable but still delivered the heart flutters, solid acting by the leads. Perfect de-stress kdrama.
Hi @Janey, Kiss Goblin was such a relief for being short and easy.
I’ve just done a skip watch of You Are My Spring (YAMS), and hmmm…. surface impression is that it’s a darkish show… it even begins literally dark in episode 1. It has great camera work/mise-en-scène. A lot is said with and without words. The OST actually mentions silence and chaos. Intriguing and not an easy watch. It lacks the lighter tones of DAYS which dealt with something dark in a brighter way.
I recall that one thought that came to me when I watched Devil Judge, was that I was seeing conversation after conversation: just 2 people sitting in one place and talking, in stark settings. It kind of bothered me (I think that might have been show’s objective – deliberate exposition?), but it’s not the same in YAMS.
YAMS already brings to the fore some motifs and ominous signs, but I believe there’s hope for a happy ending. We just have to get through the suspense!
Kalimera my lovelies!
I completed Mad for each other. Although I enjoyed it. I was mad myself with how they “made” the FL. In the beginning she was awful to the ML, then it became better, but still.
I didn’t like that at all. When you are writing a story about Mental Issues, you should be careful. It is not a comedy and we shouldn’t laught with such things, because it is not funny.
@GB, I haven’t added Healer on my list, mostly because I am watching the episodes we watch every Saturday, this time around.
I have the same problem with you about RL. There things to be done and I cannot be online that much.
I want to see Pipeline and Seobok, but I cannot seem to want to spend more time on the screen. I guess it is because of the Summertime. It is hot and your natural insticts tell you to go outside.
@Fern, You are my Spring is indeed dark as GB mentioned above. Still, it draws you in. You want to know more about the plot and it starts with a bang.
The little boy that plays in the beginning was the actor who played little Sigma on Sisyphus!
I agree with @GB, that it uses cinematography we got to see in movies. They play with the width of the screen, in order to give you a claustrophobic notion.
So far I am hooked with the ML aka Ju Young-Do (Kim Dong-Wook). He has something addictive, but in a good way. I like that he is kinda a genius that can understand more about a person’s character and it is not only his studies, but his persona as well. He is blunt and I like him for that as well.
As for the FL aka Kang Da-Jeong (Seo Hyun-Jin) I think that we got an introduction, but more are on the way…
As for the Devil Judge, a friend of mine told me that she didn’t like the first episode, but she will stick with it in order to see how it goes. Do you want me to ask her?
@Janey, we are watching Nevertheless with my friends and we are enjoying it for the same reasons – hot and steamy indeed! Song Kang is impressive in this role and I like it, since I have seen him in all his 2020-2021 series except Love Alarm.
I also think we should mention that these series have a female director, that’s why it is so fresh and yummy – LMAO!
Yes, JSun will be in Episode 4 and as it seems we are going to see a triangle.
