How many times did he show up by her side in this episode?
Hmmm… now that I’m rewatching this, I think he took out the marble from her because she could become HIS victim if he didn’t become human. He could protect her from OTHER maegu-type predators, but he wouldn’t be able to protect her from himself if he turned wicked.
I thought that Fox could become a maebu, too. But didn’t the Mountain Deity say he would eliminate him before that happened? Maybe? He missed eliminating the other Maebu. If Fox kept track of his calendar, he would know when his time is up. (too much logic, prob.)
I think I’ve already written down Mr. Fox’s lines. 🙂

I think he meant that literally, not metaphorically. Given the fact that all the women he’d come in contact with were being killed, then showing up at the cafe and touching her like that — out in the open — would mark her out to his stalker.
He knew that his appearance at her side would be endangering her, but he wanted her to stay close to him, so he could protect her.
But Hyesun questioned his move. Common sense dictated that he stayed away from her. Instead, he did the opposite.
HS: What? You’re going to keep staying by her side? Are you serious? Keeping her with you is honestly the most dangerous move. You said all the victims were involved with you.
Yes, he showed up so many times because he’s keeping her safe.
But then if what you say will happen then time is not in our hands, I meant Mr Fox’s hands.
Come to think of it, Dam hasn’t been sick or in pain for awhile. Or that was because Mountain guy was protecting her?
Oh I meant we should combine all of Mr Fox’s romantic dialogues. 🥰
It seemed to me that the Maebu was so aware of his movements that she could find women who were even very periferally connected to him or attracted to him. The Mountain Deity had been protecting Dam from the beginning (cat in garden) from the Maebu but stopped, so Mr Fox had to step up his protection.
Fox told Hyesun that Dam would be safer with him.
Fox: I thought she’d be safer with me until I find out exactly what’s going on. If anything happens to her, I’m also the one who could protect her best.
But this was ONLY true if the predator was NOT him. If he turned into a Maegu himself, he wouldn’t be able to protect her “best.” It would be like letting the fox be in charge of guarding the henhouse. In the end, he would have to get her away from him…if he didn’t successfully transform into a human.
@agdr03, I agree that Dam has been looking as healthy as ever. But I put it down to the supplements and good food.

Maebu was aware of Mr. Fox’s encounter with the other women. But the Mountain Deity probably turned Dam into a “blind spot” for the Maebu. The Maebu couldn’t sense Mr. Fox whenever he was with Dam. Like Dam was invisible like a cloud or something.
I think I was trying to judge the time that passed going by the trees and what people were wearing. I had the impression that the drama started in the early autumn and then went forward to the early spring (fine day, etc) but I’m probably off because Dam was talking about mid-terms not finals.
It’s different from DAYS because they are so conscious of the 100 days there.
I like how easy Mr. Fox had HyeSun doing what he wanted her to do. He just paid her a compliment. (or he flattered her)
HS: But here’s the thing I don’t get it. If you think about it, that kid at your house was closer to you than any other woman. How did she manage to stay safe?
Fox: That’s what I find relieving and questionable at the same time. Anyway, keep an eye on Miss Dam. I ask of you.

Yes, the mountain deity said that he would eliminate Mr. Fox. But the problem was — and as Mr. Fox witnessed — taking down a Maegu wasn’t easy, ESPECIALLY when it was resisting. It could be elusive and tricky.
And Mr. Fox could become a rebellious Maegu, eluding, resisting capture by the Mountain Deity.
I understand how Mr Fox got up on the roof but not Hye-sun. Mountain deity said something about using someone’s magic, but I didn’t catch what he meant.
Fern, I don’t think the days have passed by so quickly for Dam, if we’re to go by her menstrual cycle. They haven’t done winter yet. First snow is a big trope in kdramas.

If it’s the marble itself strengthening her, as you and @agdr03 suggest, then Dam is really special compared to the other women. But she did have that bad period, so perhaps it’s some other intervention.

I think Mountain Deity probably meant that HyeSun was running around the university campus and pretending to be a student (how did she get in without registering for the classes, for instance) all due to Mr. Fox’s magic. Without magic, she wouldn’t have qualified to be a student.

There’s a few firsts for Mr Fox in this episode too. First to do an autograph, first to go on a trip.
I’ve taken a screenshot of his autograph to Dam. It’s a cute one and yeah just like her.
I just liked that whenever he thinks Dam is not happy, he wants to make her happy straight away.
I think this episode demonstrated how misunderstanding could occur when one party didn’t have the full information or context. It’s not always due to feelings, i.e., “falling in love.”

Fox: What’s going on, Miss Dam?
Dam: I’m about to take my midterms.
Fox: (amused) Oh. And that’s scary?

It struck him as funny that Dam would be terrified of Midterms.
But Dam would have found it funnier had she known that HE was terrified of her stopping by the bookstore.

Mr. Fox appearing at the bookstore. It’s funny that Dam’s oblivious to the number of times he popped up or happened to be there where she was at.
He asked her to describe the man at the bookstore, and she said, “He’s cold, and it looked like he was in his early 30s. Kinda like you.” lol. I didn’t know if this was meant to be a foreshadowing…but to a 20 something, a 30+ year old man is an ahjussi.

So he should just pretend that he understood and stop prodding for answers. Besides, that’s what she’d been doing with him when he told her “to stay with him.” She didn’t get what that “staying with him” meant but she was wiling to wait for him till he was ready to explain.

You would think that he would move to be more proactive about turning the marble blue. Instead, he moved to remove the marble…this was (again) the opposite of what HyeSun counseled him to do.
When they went to the Buddhist sanctuary, he made a wish.

Fox: You have a beautiful smile, so I wished you would get to smile often. You can make your dreams come true, so I wished you wouldn’t give up on things that you like. And I wish you wouldn’t get hurt by others. I wished you would always be well.

So Mr Fox ignored both the Mountain Deity and Hye-sun’s practical words. I wondered on the blog if this was noble idiocy, but @Welmaris said because it involved realistic protection, not quite.

Yeah. perhaps there’s a historical reason why girl bestie is the best student, besides the fact that she studies hard. If it’s like here, the past papers may include questions that might be asked again. Where I live the students are given past papers as mock tests. Some of the questions may show up in the current year.

Fox thinking that he’s bad for Dam may be correct in the sense that any former Gumiho may be bad as a partner for any human. I have so many questions.
Is there simply too much of a difference between them? Or is the unpredictable Mountain Deity a potential threat? Hye-sun seemed to think so.
But then what are Fox’s options?
Try to find someone else to turn the marble blue? If he succeeds, then who would be a better partner for him? Who would he love and be loved by as well as by Dam? Is he being steered towards Hye-Sun?
He decided then when Hye-sun and him were talking about what needs to done after the elimination of maegu. He made a decision then to remove the marble baby.
So this is what needs to happen, he needs to turn human so he doesn’t turn into a maegu. But he needs Dam to turn the marble blue.

Fern, this always happens especially in math test. The mock tests will have questions showing up in the real test.
That’s the point of these mock tests, right?
Also, a professor doesn’t have the desire or the energy to create a complicated math problem (he’d had to solve it first himself, lol) every year. Recycling from previous test is convenient, and guarantees that the difficulty of the test doesn’t unfairly vary from year to year. Sure, the professor can tweak the numbers, but the process of solving remains the same.
@Janey on the blog mentioned that Fox could be tired of the deception. But he still doesn’t offer the entire truth to Dam.
As you say, he didn’t tell her about the threat by the Maegu. She knows the marble can make him human but not about the colour change. He keeps things from her, supposedly for her own good. I hope this deception doesn’t mess things up as in DDSSLLS.

Yes, I remember being in a meeting of anatomy professors to decide on new and old questions for exams in the states. They mix it up, because otherwise it would be too difficult for them.

Good morning, @packmule3. The Travato looks great, but the beds wouldn’t fit our family since we’re now all adult sized. But I like the idea of having everything in one neat package – like a rolling home. Also being able to sleep inside when it’s raining, which is much of the time around here.
For now, we’ll stick to hiking by day, B&B by night.
My daughter ended up camping in the back garden of her friend’s house. But she sent me a pic of ponies that were wandering in the village.

I missed this rewatch and all the fun, but I enjoyed reading everyone’s comments.
@Packmule3, I didn’t think of telekinesis when the woman in the hospital was strangled, I thought the attacker was invisible. If the maegu is capable of invisibility, that would explain why no CCTV caught images of a perp before, during, or after the murders.
I had to do a double take on the crashing vase of roses before I sorted out that the woman being strangled in the hospital knocked over her water pitcher while thrashing, but then we see the flowers and vase fall and smash at Fox’s house. It’s a cool concept, that Fox got a physical warning, not just a premonition, but I don’t think the writer and director made it clear enough for us viewers. It all happened so fast, and Fox’s face didn’t register much reaction.
Gotta go for now. Heading home after seeing the ophthalmologist about the deterioration of the vision in my eye post cataract surgery. Pressure buildup is to blame, so I’ve now got more drops to out in my eye besides the standard aftercare ones already prescribed. The good news is that while my hubby waited for me, instead of just sitting in the parking lot he found a Korean restaurant and bought us dumplings and fried chicken for lunch.
