@agdr03 – LOL for Pox! I saw that on her phone in previous episode and wondered how they will use it and here we are. Poor Hyesun! She is at an intellectual disadvantage with Fox and he rubs it in. That’s why she hates him.

True, @GB. Of all kdramas this year, I think Hyeri’s character is the one who called the most shots. Also, I’m surprised that I consistently approve of her moves given her age/maturity and information she had at hand.

I’ll third that motion that Dam is really witty and bright! She knew the questions to ask and what she needs to protect herself. She’s the bravest out of all the FL so far.
The good joke is that even Dam is not sure in what way Fox is not human enough. So the whole ep is them bungling along trying plan A then plan B.
And actually by the end of the episode, I’m not sure what it was that the Mountain Spirit told Dam that she said he’d only told her.
Yes, Dam is the nearest thing to wise.
I think the marble turns blue if Fox feels and shows emotions that are human.
Like the way Hyesun tried to get it to Fox, he doesn’t care that there’s a child and a pregnant lady on the road as long as he saves Dam. hahahha
Don’t we just love this scene where they chat and fall asleep in the living room? This back to their being honest and saying the things that each needs to hear to offset all the upsets they’d been causing. Undoing the lies.
One thing she didn’t tell him yet, is that she’s safe with him, because she’d got something out of the Mountain Spirit.
Speaking of agency, @GB, I thought it was funny when she stopped Mountain Spirit from fleeing by yanking on red string. (I thought SeonWoo would appear though)
Mountain Spirit said in an amazed voice. “You’re one strong girl.” Wait — why is she different from the others? Why can she do these things (e.g., see the red string, not be affected by Mr. Fox’s enchantment)? Does she have some sort of special blood? We don’t know, right?
Or can we assume it’s all because she’s “strong-willed/strong-minded” like her mom?
@agdr03, yes, Fox had to learn to be humane and the other thing was to be humble… to be able to apologise, and to forgive. That took a lot of doing LOL.
Oh, we get another close sleeping trope. Like Sakura and Dr, Fox won’t have an easy time ‘relaxing’.
Lol, sleeping with her was torture LOL… and he can’t say why because it was on him having to control himself LOL. I think the grinding of teeth excuse was just a cover up.
Yes, @agdr03. I was surprised that she asked the Mountain Spirit to protect her. That was really unexpected but good foresight on Dam’s part.

@pkml3, those are the same questions I’ve been asking. Dam seems to be different. Possibly like her mum … we don’t know if they have any supernatural ‘blood’ in them.
Yes, when she yanked that red string, I expected Seon Woo to appear!
I like how she chastised the Mountain Spirit for just leaving whenever HE was done with the conversation. Hahaha. Like “who do you think you are to walk away on me like that.”
So Hyeri had a good line here: You can’t just leave after throwing that mystery at me.
And I like it even more that that she spoke up for Mr. Fox. “You’ve fooled my Orishein for almost 1,000 years.”
Oveerall , I find th e dialogue realistic.
I like that Dam actually researches Humanity at the library. She finds from one source that it comes down to relationships.
@PM3 – we have a theory that Dam’s lineage has gumiho, hence her being special and strong.
dam’s role is very spunky and she takes care of herself also in a lot of these situations. I like that in an FL, she has a good and healthy sense of self.

So now the question of what it is to human is examined a bit more. I’d have liked to have a more in depth treatment of this, but this show is light and fun so just as well not.

I laughed at all of the ‘misunderstandings’ with her friends that actually were clues that the secret relationship existed. Her friends were so clueless.

Except she trips a lot.
But since there’s lot of threads going on in this drama who knows if there’s an invisible red thread between her and Mr. Fox that’s tripping her up, too.
I like how Dam just wheeled in her two suitcases to his house and expected him to take her in.
“Occupy Mr. Fox’s Den.” She didn’t really give him much choice.
I also liked that she knew when to stop following a wrong advice. HyeSun told her that she needed to be like a fox in order to catch a fox.
But that advice is applicable only to HyeSun. Dam had to be true to herself. If she’s going to teach Fox to be human, then she had to be true to her own human nature. Lead by example.
LOL when they say that everyone is scared of Prof Oh, Fox turns in Oh to get them to leave the house. So inhuman LOLOL.

It’s good to actually see a guy on screen who likes *just* talking before going to sleep. If this were a Hollywood movie, “talking” would be the last thing on the hero’s mind.

Her “smart” friend trying to figure out and give explanations to the clues when they were in Fox’s house was the hilarious!
Part of being human is forming relationships with others. Like in DAYS, eating with others, having friends, eventually caring for others not just Dam.

Her friends are clueless, but also in denial. In their brains, Dam+Mr.Fox dating scenario just doesn’t compute so any proof of the two dating is rejected as an “error.”

Yup @Janey. Being human is being able to be in all kinds of relationships and not just with a chosen one. Being able to take the ups and downs and forgive and apologise.

The boiling water while their criticisms of Fox heat up. LOL! He was so mean to turn to Prof Irritating and gave them assignments to chase them away.
At first he says there’ll be no next time having her friends over or eating with them… but by the end he has become more patient and accepting. He is the one to suggest then that they all eat together.

@Fern, she isn’t actually naive to share just one pillow with him. She KNEW that he couldn’t harm her because the Mountain Spirit had cast a spell over her to protect her from injury and death.
And then she also KNEW that if Mr. Orishein tried something else (cough, the sex), then she was all for it anyway.
So it was a win-win situation for her.
She really wasn’t naive. She knew what she wanted. She was actually cunning as a fox.
Fox didn’t do a proper clearing of Dam’s things. The besties can’t ever connect it. LOL.

You’re right, @GB, it was very “inhuman” — “inhospitable” of Fox to get rid of his guests like that.
But where you surprised? I kinda expected that when the flame ignited, and then the Prof Oh came out of nowhere. But I was laughing when Fox forced them to retreat by assigning them one essay after another. The pepper? then the silver spoon? then on how handsome he was?
I liked it too when Dam evaded Prof Oh’s hand without skipping a beat. She’s good!
This episode we seem to have only 1 scene of Seon Woo. He wants to go overseas to study … but he’ll try one more time, egged on by his sister.

We finally get more of Soo Kyung’s secret, the crush on the sunbae that didn’t work out. She’s been harbouring it for so long. And now she’s full of denial.

Dam is very quick to assess the publicity and has figured out an answer to the mean girls and boys. She sacrifices her entire semester’s study. It is brave, but the right thing to do as her grades would always be suspect. If Fox could turn her assessment over to another, her efforts may be validated.
@agdr03 I like that Dam didn’t just let it go with Fox being upset, but continued to sweeten him by jumping on his back. Something I’d never do!!!

At last, Fox has started to apologise… becoming more humane because Dam has been very natural and honest, unafraid of the truth. It’s a rare show that has such a well developed heroine.

She knew that it wasn’t Mr. Fox who pushed JJ and he was happy.

Then, it was Dam’s turn.
Dam said: When we first started living together, I said I was craving yum woon sen, and you went out and got it even though you don’t eat any food. Right, when I had bad period cramps, you went out for the dating project for me. When I was worried about my future, you took me to a museum and comforted me. In times like those, I thought you were much more humane than I am. Please continue to show me those sides. If we start with such little things, this might work.
Was the yum woon sen the time when she had to fix the toilet and Tiger Sunbae told her how to fix it?
Anyway… I noticed that they had different memories.
With Dam, she had very specific memories. She had specific moments in time in mind.
But for Mr. Fox, he remembered general qualities. They weren’t tied to a specific moment, but something she did over and over again. He remembered her traits, her habits.
And I think it makes sense that the writer made this distinction. For Dam who lived just a short life, a memorable thing would be linked to a specific moment in time. But for somebody like Mr. Fox who’s lived for 999 years, he appreciates memories that builds over time or qualities that he sees constantly repeated.
So her smile would be something memorable for him, and it wasn’t a cliched remark. It actually made sense given that she smiled at him in the same way throughout these months that she’d been with him.

@Cleo, you should rest. It’s a nice episode, but you should watch it after a good rest. I was too tired too and missed out parts because I snoozed in between.
Yes, I enjoyed it. I’ve not had a chance to download and save it though, so watching it stream is a bit difficult. It stops every 30 minutes and restarts when I play. And I can’t FFD. Still it was a good rewatch.
I like that in a culture where fate is important, this Show pointedly says we make our own destiny in the end by the choices we make. Dam chose consistently and clearly, even in the face of Seon Woo’s parting and so the red thread breaks off at Dam’s end.
@PM3 – their pillow talk is basically their “Fermina Daza speech” to each other.
And yes, the yum woon sen was the toilet situation.
@packmule3, good points about the differences between their perspectives about why they liked each other. It came up again when the friends asked Fox about his favourites and he didn’t understand it was about the menu, but immediately cited Dam’s smile. It broke the ice, too. ☀️🌡️

I understand from Dam’s side what she had to do and she was consistent even before the string. Mountain deity has to give him good karma.
@Agdr03 @Fern – @GB and I watched Kiss Goblin with Tiger actor as ML. Very similar story line as gumiho, 12 episodes with 12 minutes each so was a quick watch. If you miss sunbae, you can see him there as good BF material.
Yes, @Fern, when the bestie asked what he liked, I knew she already shifted topic and was asking about the menu. (Plus, in the background, JJ opened the menu). So I didn’t get why he misunderstood that.
I guess it goes with the theme of this drama…when you’re in love, you misunderstand things on your own. hahaha.
But I did like how Mr. Fox was very open about why he liked Dam. He quickly answered Bestie’s question, “Well, there are so many things I like about her, but my favorite is her smile.” Then he looked at her.
This should have been a cheesy, “ugh!” “gross!” moment for me, but I was grinning.

I also laughed when Dam just fell off the couch and landed beside him. I wanted her to land on his chest, though. hahaha. That’s why I would do if I were Dam.
I was thinking it would hurt to fall off the couch like that. His chest would have made a better cushion(she suggests, shallowly).

I felt Dam had a really great day and accomplished a lot with Fox and I thought the kiss was her reward for herself but yeah she was more than ready for Fox. I liked that she initiated it and Fox knew how to respond.

I really like how they speak to each other in formal tone because it immediately reinforces the idea that there’s respect in their relationship. Personally, there are colloquial expressions that I don’t tolerate from my own sons even when they were young. For instance, we disallowed “shut up!” in arguments when they were growing up. They have a biting, sarcastic tongue but “shut up!” isn’t part of their vocabulary.
Pox: Just as you said yesterday, I bought what you wanted to eat, helped you with your report, took you to the museum, and even helped you make kimchi. Why didn’t you tell them that?

It is directed by a female director, so there is aesthetic in the whole thing.
It talks about relationships in college. It is super realistic.
Hence, the negative reviews. Some don’t like the manipulation, but I have to answer to that.
When you are in your 20s you are going to make mistakes. You will like a player or you will be one yourself. If you don’t encounter something like that how will you know?
Those who say negative things are the ones who say : “I won’t involve into something like this!”
Experience says that you will and that is how you learn what kind of partner you really want.
