Thanks @pkml3! LOL I love how you introduce us. We just got promoted from mere viewers to Super Saturday Drama Specialists!!!
I thought of posting the OSTs here (I posted 1 last week) so if it makes sense, please collocate them into a separate thread.
We are promoted from rangers to specialists!!! Love it!
This week has been hectic at work and I lack sleep. I’ve haven’t read most of the comments on the different threads so this weekend will be a catch up on HPL and YAMS, too! Healer is always a good start of the weekend.
Hope everyone is safe and healthy. Cheers!
Hi @Fern and @Janey, see you in 6.5 hours!!
I thought of posting all the songs at first, then on 2nd thoughts, in case there are some first time viewers, I’ve decided to post just the songs that have been played so far in the show.
OST No. 3 was posted in the Ep 9 thread, so I’ll post OSTs No. 1 and 2 here. There are several MVs to choose from, but I may have chosen those without spoilers (or I added a spoiler warning).

Healer OST No. 1
Lyrics from YouTube (link below)
Song: Eternal Love (by Michael Learns to Rock)
It’s a beautiful feeling
What we’ve got deep inside
We’ve got a flame that will last forever
Together you and I.
Such a rush of emotions
There’s no way we can push it away
Cause they’ll never tear our love apart
Our bond will never break
Do you believe in the power
of everlasting love
We can make it if we stay together
Our love is just enough
Promise me this forever
We’ll always stay this way
We can start at the end of time
And do it all again
Oh my love
I’m all yours
And there will never be another one
Cause I’m eternally yours
My heart’s aflame
And it’s burning in your name
Even through the sands of time
My love will always grow
And I won’t let go
(uuuu…ooo)
No matter if you’re near or far
Our bond will never break
Promise me this forever
We’ll always stay this way
We can start at the end of time
And do it all again
Oh my love
I’m all yours
And there will never be another one
Cause I’m eternally yours
My heart’s aflame
And it’s burning in your name
Even through the sands of time
My love will always grow
And I won’t let go
It’s a beautiful feeling (What we’ve got deep inside)
And there will never be another one
Cause I’m eternally yours (You and I)
My heart’s aflame (Such a rush of emotions)
Burning in your name (We can’t push it away)
Even through the sands of time
My love will always grow
My eternal love

This is/was considered a cheesy, romantic song, but I love it’s rhythm and this with the other songs in the soundtrack, reinforce the longing of the hearts in this show, for the relationships that last.
I’m thinking not only of Jung Hoo and Young Shin who react to the ‘concept’ of being abandoned differently, but also of Moon Ho and his love for Myung Hee and Ji An/Young Shin, and perhaps of Myung Hee, whose longing for her daughter never faded.
Healer OST No. 2
Lyrics from YouTube (link below)
Song: When You Hold Me Tight (by Yael Meyer)
Love, it isn’t just a dream
Now that you are everything to me
Oh love, is the sweetest thing
I smile at every being with a skip in my heart
The moon, the sky, the stars can shine all night long tonight
But I only have eyes for you and I’m home
When you hold me tight
Oh oh oh oh oh
When you hold me tight
Oh oh oh oh oh
Love, dazzling at first sight
Challenging now everything we thought we knew was right
Oh love, it is our destiny
We’re caught up in the daze of only you and me
The moon, the sky, the stars can shine all night long tonight
But I only have eyes for you and I’m home
When you hold me tight
Oh oh oh oh oh
When you hold me tight
Oh oh oh oh oh
Even through high tides and tempestuous rainfall
I’ll be by your side with bated breath
And together we’ll sail through it all
And together we’ll sail through it all
Oh oh oh oh oh
Together we’ll sail through it all
Oh oh oh oh oh
Together we’ll sail through it all
Oh oh oh oh oh
WARNING this MV has loads of spoilers!

==============================================================
In episodes 1 and 2, we heard of the dreams of JH, YS and MH. YS’s dreams were the most healthy, because she wanted to accomplish what her role models had succeeded in doing, however JH wanted to run away to an island of his own, and MH wanted to not dream so that he’d not be filled nightly with regrets/guilt.
With YS being found, the guys dreams get revamped.
“Love, dazzling at first sight
Challenging now everything we thought we knew was right”
Each one of them is no longer solo, in their individual dreams, but are “through high tides and tempestuous rainfall,” “together to sail through it all”.
With JH, there’s the added element of home. He’d more or less made the lair that he had shared with Sabu, his home, but he had still intended to leave for his island get-away. However with YS, home changed from a place to get away from people, to a person he could attach himself to:
“The moon, the sky, the stars can shine all night long tonight
But I only have eyes for you and I’m home
When you hold me tight.”
Ahjumma had been surprised that when the SS goons were on the look out for Healer, JH didn’t intend to hide but to continue to work at Someday News.
She had asked : “Is she that pretty? There’s a fire burning at your feet but you’re worrying about the girl? Don’t. You’re a wanted suspect. You became a suspect for murder not long ago. I thought you’re going to buy an uninhabited island and leave this country. If it’s not a girl who would follow you, then don’t do it.”
In the end, although Jung Hoo had wanted to buy an island and live away from humanity, he finds his ‘island’ in Chae Young Shin. Instead of requiring that the girl follow him, he chose to stick by his girl.
Hi there! @Cleopatra, @FGB4788, @Janey, @Welmaris, @WEnchanteur, @Sayaris, @Fern, @OldAmericanLady, @Viva, @Juriel.
I’m here! I hope some of you are here too!!
Kalimera!
I am here! 🙂
Kalimera @Cleo!! Has it been a relaxing Saturday for you?
Kalimera @Cleo, Hello @GrowingBeautifully, hello dear Friends, how are you? 😀 .
Have had several problems with electricity and Internet, looking forward for a hassle-free watch!!! 😀
Hey my lovely @GB,
Not really. I will email you for more info. I am good though. Just a bit tired.
Hey @FGB! Good to see you here!
I do hope everything will be okay on your end!
I’m here! Hello, @GB, @Cleo!
How are you doing @FGB? I trust you’re well! Yes, I second Cleo about your Internet connection and electricity. Hope they are stable!
Hey @Welmaris!
Do we start?
It’s 9pm my time… I guess that means we can start!!! Let’s go and hope that the others join us soon!
Hi @Welmaris! You’re up amazingly early.
I get so excited by this opening, just waiting for our couple to come along looking fabulous!!!
I love watching the Someday newsroom when they’re working together on a goal. Meanwhile, Director Kang doesn’t know what’s gonna hit her.
And the slo-mo arrival of our gorgeous couple. That’s worth a rewind and rewatch!
I love them! They look so posh together!
I’ll have to remember that line for future use: “Who and for what reason is controlling me?” Or how about, “I’m about to get in a bad mood. Do something about it.”
@Welmaris I love how Jong Su’s jaw dropped as they walked in. And their act which they had to put on, on the spur of the moment.
LOL … besides that the act that YS and BS put up. JH almost revealed his shock when she called him ‘Oppa’. I must have made his heart flutter.
Hi, Everyone. I’m at the hotel entry scene now.
My Netflix subs were a slightly different @Welmaris, but I love this entrance!
They look so good together!
@GB, me too, me too! And I succumb to the temptation to rewatch that scene, so I may be behind everyone else a few ticks.
LOL the spy music. Sounded almost like a James Bond show.
JH speaking to Ahjumma… from my notes…
Healer didn’t even remember Kim Eui Chan’s name. All he knows is that he has to take photos.
Ahjumma : “There are tons of cameras there …”
JH : “I’m a pro at avoiding cameras….”
“There’s a detective on your tail. Dae Yong sent me the photos. They are all around CYS. They have photos of you too. What? You’re a pro at avoiding cameras?” (Hah! Her sarcasm.)
I really like how he answered to ahjumma.
“I’ve got a job request…
Without me telling me? From Whom?
Myself. I have to stay near Chae Young-Shin.”
My last comment is marked “Your comment is awaiting moderation.” Too bad @Packmule3 is on vacation in Greece. Bad for me, not for her.
Hi @Fern! I’m at the Det Yoon getting the background info on Someday News staff part.
I’ll pause here and there so we won’t be that far different in what we’re watching.
From my notes:
Yoon gets personnel details of Someday News staff printed on paper, and he only glances at the photo of JH. He tells his colleague to check especially their faces. the joke is that Bong Soo’s face is ‘fake’ now but will be changed later. However, no one notices the difference!! They never went back to check the hardcopy!
I believe she has to postpone Greece til next year @Welmaris. She’s around but not much on this thread.
Haha, fighting over which restroom to use. Boys were in the majority.
Healer shocked to realise that he has already been filmed near YS’s house. But he doesn’t back down. So Ahjumma rats on him to Sabu.
All the scenes filmed in Elder’s traditional home must’ve been in very low temperature: when people talk, you see their breath.
Love how they get in to the press con room simply by looking happy and confident.
I’ll move a bit forward, too.
I feel sorry for Min Jae… I wonder if she got into big trouble for YS getting all those questions in on her watch, precisely after she’s told to prevent such questions from being asked.
YS asks her question – OST Highlight comes on. Gets me full of anticipation.
Her question is ignored. She remembers that MH told her to throw her shoe if necessary. She takes of her coat and appears in her beautiful red dress. Immediately all the cameras focus on her as she walks to the middle of the room and shoots a whole bunch of questions at Kim.
LOL she has to move out before they throw her out and lands with her cheek on a camera lens.
Poor Ahjumma, dealing with both loose guns XD .
Moon Ho tricks Director Kang with the phone call. Oh, she’s going to be livid when she realizes…
You can do it, Young Shin! I love it when the theme music starts: you know our team is on the move. YS puts that red sheath dress into full force.
Ha! The face plant into the camera!
Oh, in creepy Boss’s house and it looks so cold. I can see his breath.
Elder is having fun for now.
Until Healer will go and find him, himself.
Now MS will become the next Mayor candidate!
Elder knows he’s been bested by Moon Ho and YS.
That was a clear warning from MH. “Do not touch this girl!’
MH is thorough… he seems to have primed all the Entertainment news outlets so that they aired the press conference as their main stories.
Unexpectedly MS gets the offer to be Mayor. It was not something he expected, but he won’t say ‘No’.
Hello Agapimenes and lovelies!!! I made it. A bit late but I will catch up ASAP. I rewatched this after last week’s session so I’ll jump to where you are.
I love Yoo Ji-Tae’s articulation. It is one of his charms as an actor!
Hi @Janey, we are more or less in Elder’s house when MS will soon be offered the Mayor job.
Yes, it’s awfully cold for those actors in Elder’s house!
Hey my agapimeni and lovely @Janey! Good to see you here!
@Cleopatra, agree. He has a lovely voice.
Of the trio, only Healer isn’t stunned by what they have accomplished.
He said to Healer that he will do a move on YS, that made Healer to confess later on!
I love that ending with Moon Ho’s on air announcement. I feel such a lift and with OST Eternal Love.
JH can’t figure out why YS and Jong Su are so taken with the news telecast. LOL. He never watches the news.
MH’s smile awww!!! Love their atmosphere in Someday News.
Even back in 2014 when Healer was filmed, they grasped the concept that entertainment buzz on the internet would be a powerful force. We see here that those behind mainstream media underestimate the internet. Did people know back then that “influencer” would become a job title?
And I get goosebumps when I hear Eternally Yours start playing.
@Cleo Jong Su is quite irritating LOL. I agree…
Jung Hoo ignores Joon Su who says that the call is either that of “1) a respectful hoobae under the wing of a sunbae or 2) a man and a woman.
If it’s 2) I’d give up now. If it’s 1), then I’m thinking of making a pass at her.”
This gets JH thinking. He realises that MH, Joon Su are also possible rivals for YS.
MH reference on getting attention even if you “throw a shoe” was about a journalist who threw a shoe at US President Bush in 2008!
Love YS version of lady in a sexy red dress to attract attention.
YS is elated to get some praise, especially from her role model MH who was also her ‘first crush’.
YS tells MH that he’s also a better person than she thought. She had been mistaken.
Her words bring tears to MH’s eyes. Getting the approval of the little girl he’d once carried on his back.
Jong Su did a mistake @GB!
Jung Hoo is a man on a mission, the others just don’t know it yet!
Ah, the phone call from the Moon Ho to YS. It has the guys wondering about her relationship with MH. Healer is like, ‘Not in my lifetime…’ I love that MH told YS that she exceeded his expectations. And that her response to his participation was that he was a better person. His response , Thank you, Ji-an, showed his own growth.
I like how fast Healer turns from Bong Su to Jung Hoo…
Look at him grabbing YS’s hand to lead her to that roof!
LOL JH manages to get rid of their det tail and to jettison poor Jong Su as well.
The look on Moon Ho’s face when YS tells him her opinion of him has improved, and she apologizes for the misunderstanding. He looks more than paternal, brotherly, or Sunbae.
Yes, @Cleo. He gets ditched for his spoken thoughts!
We get to see Bong-su acting assertively for once. I love the rooftop scene.
@Welmaris, it’s touching that it means so much to MH that the little girl he took care of and loves like a little sister, approves of him.
BACKSTORY of Moon Shik
It’s sad how MS changed from an upstanding guy to being corrupted by Elder. Elder uses Myung Hee, his weakness, against him. Elder plays with words, saying that he can get atonement and love by working for him. In the end MS gets neither.
@Fern,so very true!
YS is afraid of the elevator. So Healer improvises and tells her how he loves to see people from above.
And we are going to have the hand holding!
Once again Moon Sik sees his demons. This time it’s himself.
How did the Elder’s goons find him to beat him up if they didn’t even know his name?
@Fern, I love assertive Bong Soo… in fact YS noticed it too and says soon that he was like a different person. He was Jung Hoo for a while and then went back to calling her sunbae to return to his PBS persona.
This almost kiss. A sign of sensitivity and deep emotions from Jung Hoo.
@Cleo, I like that even in the elevator, YS bites the bullet to go in although she’s scared and she grabs hold of JH’s hand… the hand that she holds in order to sleep peacefully. She still has not made the connection.
Yes, @GB and @Welmaris, this event changed MH in YS’s eyes and the relationship is now cemented as mentor-mentee, teacher- student. He is not the opportunistic journalist but has shown his altruism and pursuit of thrush and justice.
An almost kiss in the lift, then Bong Su looks devastated.
Ha, she’s better at picking locks than he is.
@GB,
Those little details that matter so much. They are more close that they both remember. This link they have is ageless…
And now YS is facing her demons bravely, getting into an elevator despite her fear. BS has his own challenge to meet…skinship…make it natural!
That almost-kiss to YS’s forehead…
@Cleo love that almost kiss and LOL the picking of the lock.
JH is the onen to be shocked that she can pick the lock and get into his secret place LOL.
Love how cosy that rooftop hidey place is once they get a fire going.
@GB, shocked but admiring, too.
I love his gestures and movements in the rooftop convo.
“Today I will listen to you…”
Little did YS know that he will confess…
A this look, where he talks as Jung Hoo…
@Cleo, yes. This is his outing as Jung Hoo. It’s so precious.
Ji Chang Wook is dazzling here.
I love that YS wants him to sit close so that she can share her blanket with him. She’s thinking of the snow … and the snow kiss?
I love this conversation!
JH : “Has that person still not shown up?” (He refers to Healer, for whom she’s waiting.)
YS : “That’s about me, not you.”
JH : “How about me, will I do?”
When you love interest loves your Healer persona and not the real you, even if it is that fake Bong Su.
Song: You (by Ben) plays in the background during this confession scene.
“Are you professing your feelings for me?”
“Yes,” he nods most handsomely.
“Are your feelings genuine?”
“Yes,” he nods again.
JH : “Wait… you should think about it a bit before you answer.”
YS : “The reason I don’t need to think is … I can’t right now.” She indicates her heart “I’ve no room right here. That’s how it is right now.”
JH :”Because of him?”
YS : “Yes. Because of him.”
your*
One of the things I love the most about this Drama is that it shows the downfall of Eldest Brother in detail. From the idealist confronting the Elder to the actual Moon Suk.
Yes, but we can see that JH isn’t too bothered, although YS is surprised by his reaction because she is seeing him as Bong Soo. Then they start teasing each other….
@Fern I love JH’s expression, smiles and head nods in this scene. I can rewatch this over and over again!!! LOL
JH gets rejected and accepts it with a smile much to YS’s surprise.
JH nods : “So that’s how it is.”
YS watches him anxiously and is surprised that he does not insist or pursue the matter further.
YS : “That’s it?” LOL.
JH : “That’s it. I give up.” And he drinks his beer like they’ve just been speaking about the weather LOL.
@Fern,
JH is jealous of…himself! LMAO!
Bong Soo looks disappointed with YS’s pronouncement that it doesn’t look like it’ll snow that night.
And now we get to that line that tugs at my heart, “Can’t it be me?” Bong Soo is competing against himself. If YS only knew all the little things BS was doing Healer style in her presence, but so subtly that she doesn’t notice or connect the dots, she’d fall for BS immediately.
BS is so sincere and forthright with his confession. YS is, in turn, sincere in turning him down. I like how BS diffused the situation so they could continue working together without discomfort. He must be a bit reassured that YS’s heart is true and set on Healer. He at least knows that Moon Ho is not in her heart as a love interest.
Oh meeting Sabu!
Hi, @FGB4877. Yes, thinking to @pm3’s posts about hubris on other threads. He is the perfect example, thinking himself a gardener and people he doesn’t like as weeds to be plucked out.
Yes, PBS-JH is absolutely dazzlingly handsome here. I want to replay and rewatch!
YS is relieved : “I was so nervous.” JH gives her a sideways look and smiles to himself.
YS is not satisfied : “But Park Bong Soo …”
JH : “Yes, sunbae.”
YS : “You were really weird just now. It seemed like you were a completely different person.”
JH : “I’m sure I was. It was my first confession ever and I got rejected in three seconds.”
YS :”Don’t get too hurt.”
JH pretends to be making an effort : “I will try my best.”
YS : “Your competition is just really tough.” (JH is secretly pleased.)
“Please give it a rest. I already feel bad and you have to make me feel even worse.”
YS : “I’m sorry.”
They clink beer cans and drink with smiles on their faces.
I just love this scene!!! And they look so beautiful throughout.
Poor girl, she is still traumatized with elevators…
LOL! That confession… “Your competition is really tough”. He was smiling the whole time because he knows it was him. I like that they get to joke about afterwards.
This bit is heart breaking to me. The boy has been so damaged by his past and by the adults he has known. Sabu gives him shelter and an education and training, but doesn’t know how to parent. Still they are all that they have.
@FGB, I want to catch the parts where MS shows he’s becoming more delusional. I can’t feel sorry for him but at the same time it’s so sad!
@Fern, Yes I feel so much where Sabu and JH are concerned. I wish they’d had a better reunion and more positive things they can remember doing together. Sabu always hid his heart behind jokes and teasing. He would change the subject to frivolous stuff and not answer important questions. But this time, he did speak seriously to JH. It was good. It led JH on the right track to find out more from MH.
They way Sabu left Jung Hoo when he became an adult is so disturbing…
“As long as you like, I could be very carefully, stand by your side”. Both a poetic confession and an almost shed of his secret identity.
Hwang Jae Guk has been found dead.
Yoon cynically says he’s overly courteous because he left a suicide note, listing his crimes, including the murder of Go Sung Chul, and left the drugs that were used to kill both GSC and himself. Really conscientious of the suicidal criminal.
I think Secretary Oh’s OCD-ness makes him too meticulous and so gives away that the death is not as it appears.
Yes, @GB, right at the end. Healer wouldn’t listen to him at first because of his distrust of those adults.
I really can’t get past the way he left him on his birthday. Didn’t even finish eating the meal. *£”(%&£^”%
This part with the backstory of Sabu and JH is so sad. Sabu was a crazy guy! A damaged person who is trying to help a damaged kid in the only way he knew how – teach him skills on fighting.
Yes @Cleo, I was very, very angry with Sabu for the way he abandoned JH on his birthday. It was cruel but I guess, Sabu was bad at goodbyes. He wanted to run away from emotions. He’s always laughing at nothing, his laughter is his greeting. It hides a lot.
Poor Bong Soo, beaten by Healer XD . It is both funny and sad.
@FGB, so true I love that almost confession to being Healer as well as saying how he’d always stick with YS. She still can’t imagine that the stuttering PBS could be the cool Healer.
Bong-Soo’s self doubts and saying I have no reason to live. Forget it, I quit.
My heart breaks for him.
@Janey, @Fern @Cleo I see you’re all with me on how we feel about Sabu’s parenting and leaving JH.
Sabu used money as bait to get JH to follow him and be his mentee. I love the transition of JH from a kid to JH the young adult. Again OST Highlight! We just know that JH is going to best Sabu this time. I felt so proud of him too LOL.
@GB,
So very true.
This scene is so hard to watch. Jung Hu should be in an awful emotional state finding out that his father is not a murderer, but they framed him for it. Then, they killed him.
I felt so sad that it was on JH’s birthday, after he’d made ramyeon for 2, dressed as a sweet baby in fleece coloured hoodie with matching pants, reminiscent of a baby’s jumpsuit, that Sabu walked away from him so cavalierly.
It looked like he was abandoning a little child! Poor JH. He thought it was a joke and that Sabu would come back. But he never even called him once.
BS’s desire to have an island of his own also stemmed from Sabu’a influence.
There were lots of copies of that photo. It means a lot to many people.
@Cleo
Sabu : “The thing is, in my stomach I have a rock this size. And whenever I see you, it twists. It hurts” (This is Sabu’s admission that he feels guilt/regret over what happened to JH’s father and the rest of his friends, which he didn’t do much about.)
JH : “Why do I cause so many people pain?” (He is probably thinking of his mum who cries when she sees him. Poor chap, he thinks no one wants him because he causes them pain.)
Sabu : “Det Jo calls me all the time.
JH is upset and sits on his bed, looking down. (Sabu had been in contact with Ahjumma but had never called him.)
I felt that Sabu should have said, ‘It was said that your father killed someone’, rather than just stating that he did, at first. At least by the end of the scene, Sabu had challenged Healer to find the truth.
Mun Ho will learn that Bong Su is Healer.
@GB,
I agree with you. This boy couldn’t share what he was feeling, because he thought that he was a burden to everyone.
Yes it’s so sad that JH is afraid he’ll kill himself.
JH : “So why did he kill himself? He had me and my mother. So why?”
Sabu : “If you knew, what would change?”
JH : “If I knew I could find the reason.”
Sabu : “Reason?”
JH : “Sabu, I have no reason to live.” JH’s eyes fill with tears. “And so I’m afraid I’ll be like my dad. One day, I’ll just decide I better just end it now.”
BS is within seconds from being caught by Detective Yoon because of the discrepancy in his background information. I’m surprised Ajumma let that slide; she’s usually very thorough. But it makes for great plot tension.
Healer 1 & Healer 2 finally meet again.
Flashback: Healer 1 meeting Jung Hoo as he’s released from juvenile detention. While he was locked up, JH’s grandmother died. Healer doesn’t sugarcoat the situation JH is now in. I like how H1 motivates JH by poking at his sense of right and wrong. Using the packet of money left over after the grandmother’s funeral:
JH: Give it to me
H1: Right now?
JH: My money. I said give it to me.
H1: I don’t want to.
JH: Give it. I said, give it! Hey, you thief. Give me my money!
H1: Oh gosh. It’s in here, so try and take it. Try to take it anytime. I don’t have any intention of giving it easily. Try to take it with your strength or steal it. But, if you want to take this from me, you’re going to need to learn a lot.
Healer 1 keeps these difficult lessons lighthearted with his laughter. He’s a bit mean, but not cruel. He gives JH a reason to live: learn the skills necessary to get back his money. But in that process, JH also gains a mentor and a home.
The montage of JH transforming into Healer2 is excellent. We see him developing physical skill, with Healer1 staying just far enough ahead of him to keep JH striving to gain more. The switch from their younger to their older selves is done seamlessly. Well done, Show!
@Fern, Yes, the way Sabu said that JH’s father killed someone made it sound too certain. Poor JH throws a fit … his father is a murderer and he’s a thief. What a legacy to inherit and to leave behind!
Sabu tells him that “Your father, Seo Joon Seok, is not someone who would kill a man. That’s something I know. you might not know, but I know. If you’r going to throw a fit, find out the facts first. Find out who killed your father.”
JH : “What?”
Sabu : “Honestly, I gave up. What will you do?”
@Fern, ikr? Sabu’s communication skills are also lacking like his parenting. He should have given the info in a different way. His challenge in the end is just like his persona, goading BS to do something.
Moon-ho finds the phone and realises what it means just as Healer is in MH’s apartment finding the photo, magazine and Healer tapes and just as YS (post-roof top convo) decides to have her own meeting with Healer. For Healer and YS, the roof top conversation pushed them into new realisations about what and who is important.
@Cleo, yes, JH was angry at being abandoned but at the same time he thought it was really his fault. He didn’t know why he caused people pain. I always felt so bad for young JH and understood why he wanted to stay away from people.
Now we come to the complicated mix of 3 person’s scenes. (@WEnchanteur would have had something to say about this!)
There’s YS emailing Healer, MH finding out about PBS being Healer and Healer finding the first ‘Healer’ publication that gave Sabu the first Healer identity.
Sabu, you’re breaking my heart! How can you walk away from JH with no forewarning? And on his birthday, no less?! This, unlike the previous martial arts training, is cruel. I don’t care that JH has legally become an adult: he still needs emotional grounding, especially since he was abandoned by him mother.
Perhaps Sabu knows that Healer2 needs Ajumma more than him at this point in his life, and that his continued presence might interfere with JH developing emotional dependence on Ajumma. But that’s very thin reasoning, considering the enormous blow another abandonment is to JH.
A thing to remember about the old Healer is that basically he raised the new one, so at the moment he died he completed what was usually expected of a man: to have ideals, to do his best to make the world a better place, to get his own living, his own place (in the Philliphines if I do remember well), to raise a kid correctly and eventually lie his life for what (or who) wanted to protect.
@GB, I miss @WEn on this scene too.
This was a good episode to watch. It contained so many transitions. Right now MH has most of the good cards in his hand. He knows more about the identities than the others for now.
So true @Janey. I think that Healer1 didn’t show his emotions as well. I mean he went prison to cover all the others.
@Fern, it is the episode that brings realizations for our main characters.
@GB, A child cannot know those things. Of course he would be thinking it is all his fault.
And the end… I felt like this episode is short! Or I’m just getting used to longer ones that exceed an hour.
Thanks for the rewatch, kdrama specialists!!!
Happy weekend!
@FGB excellent comment!
@FGB, that’s interesting from a man’s point of view. I guess Sabu felt he’d done his part and now it was for JH to learn the hard way, on his own. It was still a very disturbing way to leave a young person, though. There should have been time for a proper goodbye.
@FGB4877, that is a good point about Sabu. For all of his failings, he ticked off all of the boxes next to the expectations of what makes a good man. He also steered Healer towards Ahjumma and now towards Moon-Ho for support in his quest.
Now that I think… Old Healer asking to select a girl to decide where to retire is akin of YS asking him to decide: East or West?.
Those details and recurring themes are what makes the familiarity and tragedy of what happened to the whole lot of them so sad, but also what makes YS and Healer so drawn to each other.
I have to go for now! I loved our rewatch party!
I do hope you will all have a wonderful weekend!
Take care @Cleo! Have a great weekend too!
Parenting is forever though… I think Sabu did not realize that. He has a specific goal and checklist to rear a New Healer and that’s it.
Even here in the US where it’s customary that kids turn 18 (is that 21 for S Korea?) and they leave the nest and be independent and all, I’m ok to have my kids around for longer.
Yes @FGB, that same thought struck me. It’s interesting that both Sabu and YS have that way of making decisions… east or west, this girl or that? Could it have been something that the group of 5 friends did and that YS noted when she was very young?
@FGB4877, that must be why Healer really disliked answering her east or west questions. He was making a choice for something he had no knowledge about and it could have consequences for him.
I am amazed that Healer could function at all as Bong Soo, given his sheltered, hidden life. I think he showed resilience. In this drama, especially in JS and YS’s interactions, the romance never seems acted or forced. It seems so fluid and realistic. I don’t know if it’s the editing, the acting or both.
@Janey, In SKorea, 19 years of age is considered being officially an adult. In my part of the world it’s age 21. I agree that parenting is pretty lifelong. Sabu, however, didn’t think of himself as a parent but only as a mentor to bring up the next Healer.
True, @Fern, this romance was one of the most natural and organic among kdramas. It also had some of the best give and take between the couple. It wasn’t always just one party doing the giving. Both also took the initiative to keep the communication going, even when things got tough. This is really one of the most loved couplings in kdramaland I feel, based on comments about this show.
I agree with the mentoring rather than parenting. But a child will love or grow attached to a mentor if they lack a parent, right?
Ahjumma always rejects the role of mother to Healer and he rejects that description of her as well, but her residual mothering instincts come forth when she lectures Sabu about Healer and when she sends YS to him only after she sees how much YS cares for him.
I know we have 4 more weeks to go before we finish with the Healer rewatch, however I was thinking of asking if we’re all free to continue to rewatch other shows, and which shows we’d like. I’d hoped that @WE would be able to join us. Perhaps he’d like to consider ‘W’ which I watched but didn’t like at that time. A rewatch might change my mind.
@Growing Beautifully, thank for for being at the helm for this series re-watch. It is a pleasure to see how much people appreciate this drama, whether it be the filming, the OST or the acting.
I should go and be productive on this weekend day.
Goodbye to all.
That’s true @Fern. In the absence of a parent, any adult who stands in as a care-giver of some kind, automatically earns the ‘parent’ role and receives the love of the young person. Unfortunately Sabu was not well up in child psychology!
@GB, have you heard from @Wenchanteur? Last week he said something about an urgent matter, so I’ve been wondering and hoping he is all right.
@GB, parenting is complex, but emotionally speaking a father (or father figure) should do some things for the kids, as in doing his best to steer them in a good direction, to instill self-reliance and joy, to teach them how to make their own money (or send them to someone or an institution like University to do that for them), and to help navigate that mysterious water that is the opposite sex.
Of course there are a lot others. Sometimes the kids are not mature enough to understand certain things so it is a duty to pave that road for it to eventually happen. Not to do so could lead to the misunderstanding at the end of the episode, when young Healer clams up into an old feeling not letting that the truth nor the shadow of doubt that could dispel the lie, sip in.
@GB – I was thinking of the same thing. I liked W though and It’s one of the first kdrama shows I watched. I was in awe of the intertwining of real life and webtoon lines. It was so hi-tech! @Cleo was interested in W too, I think. @WE will be a treasure trove of info during a rewatch of W. That will be fun.
@Fern, No, I haven’t heard from @WE. I will try and connect with him. I hope he’s alright.
@Janey, Oooh great! At least I’m not the only one. I thought I’d just throw the idea out here and see if anyone liked it. I need to check with @Cleo separately too but we still have 4 weeks to go. Also, we need to let @pkml3 know that we’re going to keep hogging a new thread on Saturday nights!!! 😆
JH: Why didn’t you…(sigh)…call even once? Did you not want to or…did you forget me completely? [That would be total abandonment, and hurt the most.]
Sabu: You know, I have this big stone in my stomach. But, whenever I see you, it tangles up. It hurts. [He ran from JH because he was running from emotions he didn’t want to, or couldn’t, deal with.]
JH: Why are there so many people who hurt when they see me? [JH suffers from what he can’t control, from something that isn’t his fault.]
JH lets Sabu know he’s been aware of his father’s [alleged] suicide since he was little. “Around me there were a lot of senseless adults.”
JH is right to doubt the way his father died. He’s connecting dots, having learned the man who framed him for murder also is in the photo with his father.
Sabu is so dense when he asks, “If you know, what will change?” If JH can confirm that his father was killed, rather than committed suicide, a huge emotional load will be lifted from him. If his father truly did give up on life and kill himself, JH fears that he’ll follow suit someday. He’s struggling to find a reason to keep living.
Again, Sabu is dense when he says he heard JH’s father killed a friend over easy money. Doesn’t Sabu know enough about the dark underbelly of Korean power to realize that JH’s father was framed for his friend’s death? He tries to soften it with the disclaimer, “It was written like that on the document. As soon [as] I got out of prison, I turned everything inside out.” He admits the death of JH’s father during the investigation was strange. Again, Sabu tries to backpedal by saying about JH’s father being accused of killing his friend, “That is what they said. But I didn’t believe in that.” Why didn’t he start the conversation with this line? By the time JH hears it, he’s too emotionally overwrought to comprehend it. Sabu again says, “Your father, Seo Joon Seok, is not someone who would kill someone. I know that. You may not know, but I do. If you’re going crazy like that, find out about it properly. Who killed your father…I…gave up on that halfway. What do you want to do? I think what Sabu is doing to JH emotionally is exactly how he taught martial arts to JH, taunting him with a goal and keeping it slightly out of reach. But it would have been much kinder if he’d come to JH and said from the beginning that he believed his father didn’t murder anyone and didn’t commit suicide. Then they could have worked together to continue the investigation.
Finally ended watching! 😀 . Now to read all of you 😉 .
So true, @Welmaris. Sabu was a very flawed sort of mentor. However he was the only one who stepped up to bother with JH. As @FGB says above, he did the stuff that a man is supposed to do to set a boy on his feet and on his way in the world.
He was not the sentimental, warm sort of person, and I feel he hid his awkwardness about caring for others behind his cavalier attitude, his mocking ways and out of context laughter. He started conversations with a laugh, which I found very strange. He may have been someone who was not at home with people, hence he chose a lonely profession, and seemed to have no friends except Det Jo who’d visited him in prison.
I’d love to read your comments @FGB! What do you say to a ‘W’ rewatch after we finish with Healer?
@Welmaris, @Janey, @Fern, how are you?, it is only now that I am reading you all 😉 .
I’ve got to commend JH that he immediately began his investigation into the circumstances of his father’s death. He didn’t let his anger and fears stop him.
Can anyone else remember if this is the first time JH learns Moon Ho has a connection with his father and Sabu?
JH finds the photo of his father & friends in MH’s house, confirming the connection. I wish JH had taken the briefcase with the tapes and old Healer magazine so he could study them for answers.
The juxtaposition of scenes with YS writing to Healer while JH and MH are making their discoveries is one of the best cliffhangers I’ve seen in Kdrama. This is why a 7-year-old show still resonates with viewers.
I’m done with this episode. Now I have to go back to read and respond to everyone else’s comments.
I love this show!!!!
I’m so glad you love this show @Welmaris. It’s wonderful to share in something that we mutually enjoy. The enjoyment is multiplied. 😄
Would you happen to care for a rewatch of ‘W’ after ‘Healer’?
@GB, their exchange remembers me of a part of the 90’s Superman, that with Teri Hatcher as Louis Lane. I still believe it was a very nice show.
Louis is still mad at Clark for not telling her she is Superman, to which he humbly responds that Superman is what he can do, but Clark is who he is.
Yes, @FGB, there’s some meta to Superman with this show as someone pointed out last week. So Healer is what JH does, while JH is who he is.
I did like the Superman series with Teri Hatcher. I used to watch so many Hollywood dramas when I was a kid into adulthood. Now I hardly watch even 1!!!
@GB, please cut some slack to Sabu. We men emote differently than women, but also think about what Sabu has gone through:
* He had a tribe, a “family” of sorts which who he tried to change the world (or just South Korea). He took a lot of risks for them (remember him serving as a decoy for the people in the truck to escape?).
* He was captured and had to spend 11 years in jail for daring to speak out.
* He didn’t rat his friends out, but when he goes out of jail he finds that from his group of friends: two are dead (one supposed to kill the other over money), the girl is wheelchair-bound, one of them got successful and powerful. I left young Moon Ho since he couldn’t be part of the problem yet he should have suffered a lot. Ah, a little girl is missing.
He lacks of interpersonal skills (jails are not good for socialization), but he was also double-crossed in a very bad way, you could almost say that he had to bear a cross for Moon Suk to succeed.
That said, he could have been less abrupt in his leaving of Jung Soo. He could have said him “my work with you is done, now I will spend X time with you to fine-tune your transition as the new Healer but also to be available since I will have to disappear due to my troublesome past”.
LOL @FGB, I used to really despise Sabu before, but since then, I’ve come around to accepting that not all people in positions of authority over kids are cut out to be ‘parents’. I’ve taken it that Sabu did his best under his limited circumstances, but that it still was not good enough, especially for JH as a child, who’d relationship issues with family already.
Have you seen my comment on rewatching ‘W’ yet?
OK, I’ve got to get some shut eye. Thanks for a great rewatch everyone! See you next week!
@GB, I disagree that Moon Sik was ever upstanding. His motivation for being part of the guerilla radio team with to hang out with the others, especially Myung Hee, after whom he lusted despite her not being romantically inclined toward him. Moon Sik didn’t share the others’ convictions. I get the feeling he drove the truck for them because his life was boring otherwise; he even looked bored while evading the police chase. In short, I think he was using the others for his own purposes even from the beginning.
@Fern, I think Bong Soo gave up on picking the lock because he didn’t want to reveal his Healer skills to YS so openly. He gave up because he knew she could successfully pick the lock.
@FGB, good point about the parallel between east or west, left or right choices as stand-ins for more important decisions. I suspect this was a decision method playfully used by the five friends that YS learned as a child and which stayed in her subconscious. It’s another thing that ties the younger generation to their long-gone parents. We’ll have to watch whether Moon Ho or Myung Hee toss out a similar question.
I’m not sure I can commit to getting up every Saturday at 5:30am to do a 6am rewatch. I did it with Healer because I love this show so much. I’m not as enthusiastic about W because I got creeped out by the antagonist. I’ve started my own rewatch of Goblin because that’s another show that burrowed deep into my heart, but I know @WEnchanteur doesn’t care much for that one.
I have a Zoom meeting scheduled in a bit more than an hour for my college alumnae association. I’m playing host, so I can’t be absent. Between now and then I have to get properly dressed (no pajamas!) and eat breakfast.
Until next week, fellow Rangers/Specialists!
AAAARRRGG! I hit reload before I posted the long comment I wrote responding to others’ comments, so now it is gone, gone, gone. I don’t have time at present to retype it, since I have a Zoom meeting I’m hosting in about an hour for my college alumnae association. I need to prepare for that.
As for joining a W rewatch: I’m not sure I will commit to more pre-dawn mornings for that show. I liked it, but the antagonist creeped me out a lot. On my own I’ve started a rewatch of Goblin because that is another show that, like Healer, has burrowed deep into my heart. But I remember that @WEnchanteur isn’t a fan of Goblin.
@GB, would not mind to watch “W” with all of you. To be honest it didn’t pique my interest when it originally aired.
Right now I am a little bored. This Wednesday found myself looking for a new episode of “My Roommate is a Gumiho” only to remember that it ended last week.
And yes, I missed @WEnchanteur’s feedback today 😀 . BTW, hope to read you soon!!! 😉 .
About Sabu and his delivery to JS, well… it was a “manly” interaction that didn’t go well at the beginning… but let me be an “interpreter” of sorts 😉 :
* We men usually talks about facts since we are more interested in how to objectively look at them for looking at solutions. Think about watching a medieval castle to decide if entering through the loos, using siege towers or ramming through the central door… or siege the castle over an extended period of time (let time decide). At the end of the day the man recipient of the information must decide what to do by himself (unless the problem is too big, if he is overwhelmed or if it involves many people that should naturally be part of the decision-making process).
Ladies around me needs to talk about first in order to lower her emotional distress, THEN they can try to look at the problems with her female peers.
Poor JS clamming up was not a part of the plan, he got overemotional because his deep-rooted trauma. So Sabu did what another man would have done: to let the kid alone for him to vent his anger (always near in case of an emergency or things going out of control) and talk to the kid after he has cooled down, and able to hear.
Please remember Ladies that we men tend to be angry where a woman would cry.
What Sabu did was to call JS out: what happened happened, it is in the past… but ¿what he will do about it in the future?. Sabu told JS what he heard, the “official” story. After JS’s breakdown he called out on JS’s delusions first and later called him into action.
This was a normal father-to-son interaction, but hell if it was tense. That is not to say that Sabu is a good communicator, far from it!.
Will read subsequent posts later, for now I am out 😀 .
As always, it has been a pleasure to read all of you!!! 😉
No worries. It went to my spam box for some reason.
@FGB, thanks for your man’s perspective on the heated dialogue between JH and Sabu. I concede your point that Sabu was intentionally directing the exchange, not being dense about JH’s emotional needs. That doesn’t mean I don’t feel bad for how JH felt or don’t wish he’d been spared that pain.
Thanks, @Packmule3, for releasing my comment from the purgatory of spam. I thought it was gone forever. Poof!
Hello everyone,
I am in with you about “W: Two Worlds”.
I really enjoyed the series when I watched it!
I just read your comments!
@Welmaris, I am in for Goblin to.
I like “Healer” because its truth is fundamental, that’s why as @welmaris said above, people still like it.
@FGB, Sabu is a good person at heart, we know that because he did a sacrifice. For that thing I will respect him always.
I will agree with @GB and @Welmaris that we can get upset with him. It is how our brains are wired. *smiles*
