  1. Kalimera! Excited for this!

    Let us enjoy the episodes!

  2. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks for opening this thread @pkml3. I’m looking forward to this sun show, and am surprised that I’m interested in finding out what a fictional character’s brain cells are up to! LOL.

If in the manhwa, Yumi does become a writer, I assume her dead Writer cell may be able to resurrect.

I hope we don’t get an Aegyo cell!

  3. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    I meant *fun* show.

Hi @Cleo! I’m excited too. I find that so ‘ridiculous’ LOL.

  4. Kalo mesimeri / good afternoon my @GB Unnie!

I agree! These series made me laugh so easily.
I am enjoying this so very much!

  5. Dear agapimenes @Cleo and @GB – Yumi is my Friday happy pill! Looks like writer cell is not really “dead” but just dormant. Etiquette and King Sullen were the new cells last week and not to forget the unstoppable poop cells! Let’s see what cells are new this weekend. Cheers!!!

  6. Kalispera agapimeni @Janey!

Same over here! Let us find out which Cell will make us laugh tonight!

  7. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

My Agapimenes @Janey and @Cleo Your comments have just got me remembering … (and I admit this without regrets) that I deliberately missed the poop joke parts 😉 . There are some funny things I do not need to see!!!

If we have a Poop cell and a Hunger cell, then there must be other cells to cover the different physiological needs. Was there a Sleep cell so far?

  8. @GB Unnie,

I agree with you! Yes there is! Her Sleep cell is singing a lullaby as well! LMAO!

I hope we get to see what was happening in their minds after that kiss in the hotel room… LMAO!

    Episode 7
LOL seems Show has cheated us of the Sokcho trip cell machinations. We jump into after the trip with hardly a reference at all to cell activity on the weekend, except that our couple hardly left the room.

Although the way of friends comparing, mocking and challenging where we are in life is the norm in many Asian cultures, I find this kind of situation Yumi faces constantly, where it’s the appearance that matters, overly toxic. While I understand the concerns of Yumi over making the impression that would wow her friends, I can’t help but feel it’s a shame that she bows to that kind of group/societal pressure to present herself as ‘successful’ (or conversely, as not an object of pity) to such an extent, that she has to ‘use’ her boyfriend to shore up her image.

She kept using the phrase “jealousy incarnate” to describe her friends. Since this was her take on their attitude, her desperation was more comprehensible, however as far as I could see, her friends were mostly sceptical, and curious, rather than jealous. Perhaps being jealous was a state that Yumi had found herself in, and she was transferring it to others.

I felt that it was a shame to want to appear fantastic, not because it’s a fun or nice thing to do for oneself, but that Yumi starved/suffered, etc because she was desperate to present the perfect image to meet the standards of others. I hope she’ll slowly come to find fulfillment in doing what’s right for her and hang what impression it gives or what rumours are raised.

That being said, however, I do acknowledge that it’s very difficult when one is born into the culture where what others say matters so much. I know that even among the Japanese/Korean community here, they are super careful in their looks and behaviour, so that nothing untoward gets reported back to their own people. We locals don’t care two buttons either way, but I feel for those in this rut.

At the end of all that stress, I do like that Woong played along with Yumi, although her Love cell never did inform her that his desire for marriage had been thrown away into the sea, and lay fathoms deep. Perhaps it had occurred to Woong that Yumi had been so adamant that he should attend the wedding, because of people like Ugi, and had the sense to save face for Yumi.

I was trying to think of an analogy of what Yumi’s Love cell’s infiltration into the Deep Corner of Woong’s Heart referred to in reality. The only way Yumi would have been able to know the priorities in Woong’s Heart was to have asked him. But if she could know that she’d nothing to fear from Sae Yi’s position in Woong’s heart, then she should also know that Woong was not interested in marriage. A plothole?

It’s telling that Woong is always of 1st priority to himself, while for Yumi, her most current love would take over the 1st priority. This would mean that Woong would have some means to defend and protect himself in any relationship, while Yumi would end up devastated, if a relationship failed.

I liked the cameo of Lee Sang Yi (our Seong Hyeon in HCCC). As Ugi, I thought it was shameless of him to approach Yumi as if he’d not hurt her badly 3 years previously. However he seems to have been sincere in wanting to break his marriage news to her, although she took it as him boasting. It seems that he only decided to attend the wedding so that he could speak with Yumi.

It occurs to me that in that open space where Yumi and Ugi were speaking, Ugi should have seen Woong approaching from far off, but he let her continue boasting while Woong stood behind her. Ugi’s eyes did sort of look up behind her but he was silent.

It was most appropriate that it was Emotion cell who got out of hand to bluff that Woong had proposed marriage. Our feelings do get the better of us.

Sae Yi continues to be such a snake. Yumi was sneaky too in whispering so that Sae Yi would be plagued by curiosity. LOL. Might it have been because Sae Yi knew that Woong had no intention of getting married, that she too declared she was not going to marry? However she wanted to keep Woong for herself regardless. If Woong does not tell Yumi about his lack of marriage plans, it’s likely that Sae Yi will bandy it in front of her to crow. But wouldn’t it be nice if he’d dredge his desire for marriage out of the sea?

  10. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

BTW, I thought it might have been sly that Ugi mentioned to Woong that he did not look like a hobo at all. That made it clear that Yumi must have said that about Woong to her friends.

  11. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I’ve just watched Ep 8. Jin Young has come on board. LOL how his face was hidden from Yumi’s awareness.

So the ‘going-to-be-married’ lie has taken on a life of its own and led to greater ramifications than could have been expected. The big issue of trust rears it’s head.

However, when we know that we are watching from hindsight, so to speak, from 40 years in the future, it puts a whole different perspective on what we are seeing. What was momentous, what was a life-changing decision or what was a mistake are in the end, life’s experiences.

I agree with @Juriel, on the other thread, that the emotional reactions to those moments still pop up with the memories, but knowing that they lie in the past and are remembered, means that the present person has made it through those trying times.

  12. @Growing Beautifully, I thought it was so funny that Jin Young was so generic in Yumi’s consciousness that he became a 2 dimensional sketch. Until he said he found her umbrella. I haven’t seen him before. He’s not a bad actor.

Sae-yi has even moved to the same building? She is really a snake in the grass.

  13. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Fern, I liked Jin Young in Devil Judge. He plays the earnest, unassuming character quite well. Yes, he’s not bad.

Something that Louis said struck me … when he heard that Woong might get married, he called him a traitor. This seems to indicate that the 3 of them (of SLW Studio) may have pledged to remain unmarried forever. However, news of Woong’s so-called marriage plans got Sae-yi to up her game to keep Woong to herself. It could be the measure of her desperation that she actually spent the money and effort to move to the same building as Woong, just so that she could continually get into his home to raise Yumi’s fears and lower her confidence. She might not be able to get Woong to like her, but she could ensure that he never would have a happy girlfriend! A true snake indeed!

Woong seems very aware that Sae Yi’s nearby presence would mean trouble for his romantic relationship. He can’t use his ‘Forgetful Bear’ cell when Sae Yi keeps coming to him for help. He’s smarter than he gave himself credit for, but he makes the same mistake as Yumi.

As usual, it was a grave error to not just quickly inform the other person of the sticky situation. A big mistake to not tell Yumi about Sae Yi being in the same building. His silence on the matter makes this piece of information take on greater significance than it might have done, had he just told Yumi, and assured her that Sae Yi would never have a chance with him.

  14. I continue to have fun with this show’s format and a lot of situations are relatable.

For example, other guys look like 2 dimensional or generic vs the guy you’re in love with. When one is in a relationship (especially honeymoon stage), there’s not much effort to be hyper aware to search for your type of person every time you’re out and about. Those cells being on vacation is so apt! Also I think Bobby only became fully visible when he said he has a gf. He is “safe” to engage in conversation then. I laughed so hard when the cells are evaluating his actions if he was a girl! Indeed, there’s a different lens/bias when a guy said those things to a girl vs if they are both girls.

Cooking cell made an appearance! We have also have a tamagoyaki pan (rectangular pan) to make egg roll omelettes easier to do.
But I am liking Cheapskate cell. Her reaction when the umbrella was found is something I relate to. I may have a strong cheapskate cell. LOL! I wonder what the fish on her antenna mean? Although cheapskate was there in previous episodes, it’s only now that I noticed her.

I still find that Yumi and GW lack deeper conversations. I applaud GW for getting that Ji Ugi (Director Ji from HC3!) was the ex of 7 years (college romance) and reacted accordingly. I wished this was followed through by more convo on this topic. This already showed GW is sensitive and non-judgmental but Yumi is emotional. GW and Yumi’s MO is to avoid conflict or have honest discussion hence their relationship will continue to be plagued by misreading cues and insecurities. They definitely need to have a discussion on Sae yi.

Yumi should take a page from WG’s first priority which is himself! But I’m baffled how this can happen without some conversation and sharing between the 2. Is this a cellular level understanding? Hmm…

The shift in story telling in ep7 was also a nice spin – more like a history that Yumi survived! Whew! I like Yumi’s library of memories. I am now thinking how I would like my library to be. It will most likely have a digital section ala Facebook posts.

  15. I’m with you, @Janey: I thought the “imagine it’s a woman” interactions with Yu Babi were hilarious. This drama continues to be filled with delightful surprises.

Another surprise was the use of two dimensional cartoons for the men who didn’t catch Yumi’s attention. What a clever way to show that they didn’t register in Yumi’s consciousness.

I got confused with names, and had to check cast lists to figure out why. The office colleague Yumi had a crush on at the beginning of this show is named Chae U-gi. Yumi’s ex-boyfriend is named Ji U-gi. And the actor who plays Ji U-gi in this drama plays Director Ji in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha.

I agree with @GB that Yumi’s wanting to put Woong on display was not healthy. If someone resists believing her when she says she’s dating someone, it’s their problem, not hers. Yumi needs to work on her sense of self worth, as well as recognizing the worth of Woong as his own person, rather than someone to make her look better in front of her so-called friends.

Is it factual, that in South Korea strong bonds form between groups of high school and college classmates that last for years? My personal experience is that I’m fortunate to develop one or two close and lasting friendships from each stage of my life. Most of the people I became acquainted with growing up in my neighborhood, going to school, attending college, working jobs, going to church, etc. have drifted off to become former acquaintances. I see the same being true for my daughters, both of the same generation as Yumi. There are true friends who stand the test of time, and there are people with whom connection is weak and easily broken. In my book, only the opinions of true friends hold any weight, and as true friends their affections aren’t swayed by trivial matters.

Jumping forward 40 years to get a look at Yumi’s encyclopedia when she’s 72 years old was another big surprise in Episode 8. Very clever. We learn Yumi got married, but we don’t know to whom. We also learn that the most embarrassing thing Yumi experienced in 72 years was when she lied to her ex-boyfriend about being in the process of planning marriage with Woong. If that’s the most embarrassing moment, then the plot will probably now turn other strong emotions to bring tension: sadness, anger, fear, etc.

At the wedding Woong was perceptive to guess Yumi was talking with her ex-boyfriend, and kind to go along with her deception. I think the Writernim did an excellent job showing how ripples and waves of complications spread after a bad decision, even if that bad decision seems to be comfortably resolved at the moment. I do wonder, though, who spread all the rumors. Only Yumi, her ex, and Woong were present when Yumi was telling her lies. My guess is that the ex spread the (fake) news of Yumi’s impending nuptials, glad to be off the hook as the jerk who’d broken her heart three years ago.

I am worried about the budding relationship between Yumi and Yu Babi. Rebound romances have many problems to overcome because of all the baggage dragged in from the previous relationships.

  16. Annyeong,

these two episodes were so good. wow. full of different emotions. what a roller coaster! daebak! my few faves: the guards with their guns on (so cop like)!!! taking over while the “men reconnaissance” team were on vacay. oh that was hilarious! they’re off to Hawaii too. complete with lei’s already.

the children cells visiting Yumi’s museum of sort haha. did you guys notice the boy with the snot?? too cute. and one of the child cell noticed who the husband is. who who who?? omg. is that the librarian cell? a grandma. so adorable.

love the appearance of jin young. haha and that 2 dimentional sketch of a man. hahaha. awwww. love it when we only have eyes for our man. until they are “safe” and not a threat. altho i think Yu Babi will be a distraction? or new interest? the break up card is out. waaaahhhh.

what was the mole that yumi poked? is it really a mole or a turn on/naugty spot of some sort? LOL oooh la la. it sounded like a door bell… the naughtisaurus and love cell heard and opened the door. wahaha. we also got our first matching couple shirt. horray 💛 cute.

so yumi’s love cell (ala tom cruise) infiltrated Woong’s deepest corner of his heart. did you guys notice the security? the laser beams. wow. Woong’s PW is so funny – 12345. seriously? haha i thought it would be 4 digits haha.

yumi’s dress to the wedding was nice. but black? i wonder who designed that dress? coz she wore another black dress on her birthday dinner. i like the designs. simple but elegant.

i love the lunch box yumi made for WG. so cute. i love this about the korean culture. how cute they make their lunch boxes. so hateful that SaeYi has to mention that food that Woong does not like. does he really not? coz Yumi ended up shopping for it. when Yumi gave Yubabi the recipe for tartar sauce, it seemed more complicated haha. i was wondering if she was gonna offer to do it with him haha. i would have just bought a jar LOL.

i felt the pain when hunger cell has to endure eating grass. that was funny with the yoga cell. hahahaha. like Yumi’s boss said, it looked more like she’s eating poison hahaha

that earthquake though. thank God no cell was harmed. but wow! what happens when we bottle up our anger indeed. what a picture!

    @GB,
i was wondering about that “traitor” accusation by louis. wow. that is a serious breach of their pact if all of a sudden Woong is thinking of marriage. no comment he says. and looks like the “marriage card” has been awakened in both Woong and SaeYi. omg. SaeYi has definitely upped her game with her move in Woong’s complex. wow. she’s so sly. i am not liking her character, but gotta have your antagonist now, don’t we? waaaah. our Woong committed another sin of omission hmm. maybe it wasn’t a big deal to him. his defense cells should have set the alarm off already. we all knew it was gonna bite his behind later. and it did. poor Yumi, she thought she was off to surprise him, but we all know she was gonna get the big surprise instead. 😭 Saeyi is persistent. if Woong truly liked her, he would have made a move already during their college days.

i understand what you mean that Yumi’s friends were not really jealous, just skeptical. i would, too, haha. but yea, Yumi didn’t have to prove anything at all. isn’t that interesting that our couple does not have a selfie picture as bf/gg though? in this culture of selfies?? come on! but for privacy’s sake, it’s understandable really. not all that strange.

i do like that Woong’s priority is his self. i think it’s important and understandable at this point as they’re not married yet. i agree that placing woong as #1 will be devastating for yumi in the end. i think Woong’s heart is in the right place. even then he’s fully there to support Yumi. it was stressful that Yumi was so worried for Woong to be a disappointment. i was really hoping he was gonna shine and he did. and when Yumi was going on about her wedding lies, i had a feeling that Woong was behind her. i didn’t want him to but he was 🙁 augh. but Woong put 2 and 2 together – good job! awww he’s such a cool cucumber. and he even researched Hawaii. love it. i do love Hawaii. looks like our couple has a next road trip destination. yes! 🌺

Lee sang Yi’s as the Ex did a good job making the character shameless. he was a provoker – to the end. he was irritating me. and definitely the one who spread the fake rumor. wow.

all yumi’s friend acknowledged that Woong has a unique style, even the Ex. better than expected. guess Yumi did a good job lowering their expectation. what a ploy.

    @janey,
i do like that Yumi’s library? is a clear indication that she survived this most embarrassing moment of her life. we’re all survivors~ broken, but a Survivor.

    @welmaris,
the “imagine it’s a woman” scenes with Jin young/Yu babi as a girl was hilarious… that they have to redo the scenes with his long hair. i can only imagine how fun that was for them. hahaha.

the arrival of Yu babi is refreshing. he’s #2 handsome guy in the building was it? haha. loved that Yumi didn’t even notice. she’s more into her food. hahaha.

choi minho is back in this episodes. ahhh so nice to see him 🙂 even for a short time. that fake rumor did a number on our couple. so the word “marriage” is out the window for our couple coz of that incident? sad.

i agree that just like yumi, sometimes, our sense of worth is lacking. reality bites. that 40 year jump was refreshing though. genius!

so you think Yu babi will be a rebound romance? already? i hope not. i’m hoping he’s only a distraction. yes? sigh.

  17. Really liked these episodes. However, I need to stop watching previews because the previews from last week seemed to predict that Yumi would catch Sae Yi coming out of Woong’s apartment–and then she would get together with a man from work. I found myself watching Friday night’s show before the subtitles were complete because I wondered about the potential breakup. Whew–didn’t happen (yet).

Can anyone explain why there were baby/child cells? Does that imply that some cells die off and are replaced? Also, the building where the librarian and the baby cells took a tour doesn’t seem to exist in present-day Yumi–at least as a multi-storied structure. Does that mean that we build a bigger and bigger library (of memories) as we age?

  18. I finally was able to read your comments here before watching the new eps tonight and tomorrow.

I totally agree that this series makes me literally laugh out loud because of how the cells were portrayed, esp. that of the hungry cell with the yoga cell. HAHAHAHA (my dieting self is triggered)

@Janey I’m not sure about the antenna fish but it looks like a dried pollack to me. I’m not a Korean so I don’t really know what it means but I often see them in variety shows given to people who lose in games (like in 2D1N – the group who won will get to eat a lot of food, and the group who lost will only eat dried pollack; In Running Man, one member had to dress up like a poor man in Joseon Era and he was given straw shoes/clothes, a bag, and a dried pollack ~ if I remember them correctly) I’m not sure as to why they chose fish as a symbol to indicate cheapskate cell. Is it because dried pollack can be bought and be stored for a long time and it would still be edible and taste good? hehe

Also, I can sense that Yoo Babi (played by Jin Young) is a player or a cheater. @HK_Lady’s predictions might happen soon esp both Yoo Babi and Yumi are experiencing “I’m more bored than I was single.” Hmm.. let’s see how the story goes 🙂

  19. @Jhans! You and I have the same “Guard Cells” on alert with this Yoo Bobby. He isn’t a cheater but more like a “smooth” guy which nowadays is regarded and called a “player.”
