That gif actually makes JJH and Gianna look pretty cute! Heh. 😆
Old American Lady (OAL)
Please forgive me @packmule3, I’m sure Jirisan will have a lot of cliffhangers. (Could not resist-it was just so obvious and my fri3nds know that I love groaners) Peace…
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
@OAL May I leave here the obligatory groan LOL.
After Ep 3, I can’t say that it ended with much of a new or different cliffhanger, but probably after Ep 4, we may be driven up the wall and around the bend with a good one, to keep us coming back next week.
We know why HJ chose to be a ranger, but YK’s reasons are still unclear.
As expected, we spent a sizable portion of the Show on what happened in 2018. We get to see how Kang HJ manages to get Seo YK to start slowly believing in his visions of death on the mountain.
We get a prediction that HJ is fated to remain in the mountains even if no longer alive, and so we wonder if we are seeing an astral projection, a spirit, or a real person who seems to be HJ wandering around the mountain. Whatever it is, it fuels the ghost stories that shift from a girl ghost to a male ghost, whose sighting is linked to deaths.
We can assume that in 2020, YK fully believes HJ’s psychic abilities already and is attempting to continue their investigations. She has left the message that she’s back, and presumably waits to receive some response.
At this stage I find the mystery less compelling than in some other Shows, but I’m happy to go along for the ride to guess who the bad guy(s) might be and why.
Miracle23
🤭🤭🤭 So we are hunting a psychopath and/or a ranger motivated to be the punisher of the illegal hikers? Ok. off to ep. 4
Arihsi
Ahm. Ref ep 4. It doesn’t say “supernatural” in the description ?
Miracle23
So we now know the culprit and perhaps why HJ’s spirit is roaming the mountain is because of the girl shaman casting a curse on him. Maybe the talisman paper (?) that guy picked up from the river will help him returns.
Wait, YG knew about the bomb psycho in 2018 yet she still hasn’t figured out there is intentional killings going on there i.e. poisonous yogurt drink? Really?🤨
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
@Miracle23, yes I’m getting a bit confused by the non-linear timeline. The poisoned yoghurt ploy should have been familiar in 2020, since it was in several cases in 2018. But there was no warning about it.
Have to watch the next episode to know if scarred-hand was ever apprehended.

What we know so far:
1. Kang Huyn Jo is in a coma, but his spirit is left in the mountain. He is the one who informs Yi-Gang that someone is going to be killed and in which part.
Why did he stay over there? For some unknown reason I would say that the Mountain Jiri picked him up to protect the mountain and the people from the killers. The little girl gave him an Oracle. This is his fate. I don’t know how they will bring him back and if that is possible. His spirit, also has his conscioussness and so knows that Yi Gang sent him a message.
2. We have encountered three killers.
The one is using poisoned yogurt and has killed and continues to kill. His victims so far are: the Private that HJ was trying to find as his Captain and the old lady. He didn’t kill Private Ahn and the man Yi Gang saved because of the branch signal.
The second one is the scarred-hand who seems to put that potato bomb for his own reasons.
The third one is using the yellow ribbons.
@GB et al, I would like to tell you what I have spotted, in order not to be confused. When they are returning back in 2018, the frame is “closing” visibly in our screen. If you notice it everytime they do it, you won’t have a problem. I realized it yesterday and everytime I am spotting it, I understand they are going back in time.
Yi Gang is looking for the yellow ribbon killer and so far her suspicions lies to Jo Dae-Jin because everytime he had a day off a victim was found dead.
From what we have seen in Episode 3, he is not the killer who is using the poisoned yogurt ploy. He is not in his 30s obviously. She is suspicious of him because of the yellow ribbons she found in his drawer and connected him with the last victim that the picture put one ribbon to near his hand. It is like a trademark.
Things are progressing and unwinding in their own pace and I want to understand more before I write more plotwise. The story seems interesting, but at the same time something is off and I cannot say what is exactly.
Miracle23
Thank you for breaking down these details, Cleo 😘 to add, I think the killer has a partner. Might be the killer is related to a ranger. Maybe Chief Jo takes the time off to investigate on his own. If he is the partner, he might be doing it so as to protect his team in cases such as the accidents at the restricted part of the mountain. Like setting traps to rats, they use the yellow ribbons and yogurt to punish the tresspassers (?)🤯🤯
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
Thanks @Cleo for helping to clarify when is when in the Show. I think part of my difficulty is that I had no time to watch it thoroughly.
Phew! 3 killers are quite many on the same mountain. Maybe there’s something that links them together, although they go about attacking their victims in their own ways.
This Show really made me aware of much I’d never thought of, as a ranger’s work. They really have a tough job, since they need to protect both the mountain and the people who visit it, (sometimes from each other!!!) and now they have to help protect people from each other as well.
I recall the guide for trekking/hiking amongst nature … leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but photos. A tough call for us humans who just love to leave everlasting signs of having been to a place, or who carelessly leave trash, and who like souvenirs a whole lot.
Miracle23
@GB, yes.. I apply this ‘mantra’ to myself too when visiting the seaside, river, hiking. No boasting, no talking loudly, no picking up anything, no leaving behind your trash, watch where you step, ask permission along the way etc etc…. have to bear in mind that there might be other entities that are also living there so we kinda trespassing into their territory. Just talk less and enjoy the view 😉
Cleopatra
Kalimera my lovely @GB Unnie!
I am glad I helped! It is a nice find in order not to be perplexed.
I think we need to be more aware that our presence should stay minimal in places that Nature still stands and is the main protagonist. I agree with you and @miracle23, we should be gentle.
Cleopatra
Hey @miracle23,
Somehow I missed your comment!
I don’t think the Chief is the killer. Yes, you might be right about the accomplish! I just don’t say more, because there are so many loose ends at the moment. Who is who and why?
I am trying to understand first in order to comment later…
Hope you are okay!
Janey
Thanks @Cleo for keeping it straight on the killers. It can get quite confusing with the jumping timelines. Seems the potato bomber is already shown to us and hopefully will be resolved in 2018. The 2 other killers (yogurt and yellow ribbon) seem to still be in existence in 2020.
Having grown in Asia where mountains are mystical, I’ve always thought that they are other-worldly especially a thickly forested mountain like Jirisan. We were taught as kids to walk with caution and respect, whisper “excuse us, we will pass” to the “spirits” as we traverse through unbeaten paths in these areas.
Cleopatra
Kalimera my agapimeni @Janey!
I am trying to make it easy for myself as well. So far too many things are happening at the same time.
I can understand what you are saying. We have mount Olympus and others as well. Although I haven’t been there I believe that we should treat Nature with wonder and awe…

Very fruitful discussions so far, and yes, I have even more questions with each passing episode than answers, but I’m comfortable with the pace in which the events are unfolding. The horror bits are really well done and not OTT spooky, like, I have zero stomach for horror, but, in this case, the mystery is holding my intrigue well. Not sure if there’s one killer or three, but the non-linear timeline is confusing me too. Also, I am kind of bummed that Yi-gang doesn’t go to meet Hyun-jo in the hospital all that much, at least given how close they’d become within a few months (?) of working together. I’m really warming up to the subtle tension between the two of them, especially with how well they can joke about it (re. the shop they go to hunt for aphrodisiacs in ep. 4 😂). Although the search pair continue to be reckless, their camaraderie is proving to yield good results, therefore what reason do they have tp hold themselves back eh?
Re. the poisoned yoghurt drink killings, my interpretation was that they MAY have resolved that issue in 2018/19 (or so they thought) but Yi-gang is surprised to learn that that isn’t the case? Otherwise her puzzled reaction makes little sense to me. Also, Go Min Shi’s character can see ghosts. Does she know that she can? Maybe that can help her to communicate with HJ’s ghost in the mountain and convey to YG how he can be set free? My other big concern is, what does “setting the ghost free” mean for HJ — he’s clearly having an out-of-body type of experience at the moment, so will reuniting with his ghost cause his eventual demise (after completing whatever mission it is that’s holding him back on earth) or bring him back to life?
My guess for the possible killer — last weeks ep. kind of indicates that these may be the doings of a ranger, so I’m putting the rangers head guy (Jo Han-chuel’s character?) as the prime suspect or the police guy (Jeon Suk-ho’s character). The black gloves seem like a red herring as well as the connecting thread to the killer(s) at this point because too many guys seem to have worn them in the course of the two episodes, so I don’t want to take any guesses based on that. I’m also with @Cleo in leaving Chief Jo Dae-jin out of my list and YG suspecting him feels like a red herring (with the yellow ribbon mostly planted at his desk as a way to frame him for the murders he has no hand in, maybe by an old rival?).
So far, I like everything about this drama. They probably went OTT with the visuals only in the first 2 epis (understandably so) and have now found a comfortable pace with the main plot. Other than the haphazard timeline, I’m really hooked from beginning to end of each episode, even in the horror segments. Can’t wait for this week’s episodes! 🙂 Also, imo, this drama seems like a slow-burn i.e., I’m glad to be watching this as it’s airing so I have 1 week to process all that I’ve just watched 🙂
