Thank you @pkml3. Yes, the reflection really wasn’t there. He (And Kim Sol) were able to see the spirit of the shaman, instead of the shaman herself *cue scary music*.
Subs for Jirisan are usually slow. I can’t even find the raw episode yet.
Oops! I just double checked that it’s on Saturday and Sunday, not Friday and Saturday. I knew then forgot. I’m getting confused with just 3 Shows to watch tut tut!
Oof, great observation there, @Miracle23 & @pm3. Have yet to watch eps. 5&6 as I’ve had a busy week, but hopefully I’ll be able to catch up with all the pending episodes by next week and log in my thoughts here later (+ read all your comments on both threads). Such a fun ride this drama has been so far!
Wow! Episode 7 was chock full of discoveries, backstory, was so exciting and ends on a note of high tension.
The fire in HJ’s vision is both wildfire and arson. The killer is really out to kill HJ regardless of how many others get killed as well!
I was really interested in all that the rangers had to do to fight fires where no fire trucks could reach. And on how since just putting out the visible fires was far from enough, there’s a mopping up effort for 3 days as well. Despite the great risk of fires moving down the mountain to the town, people are stubborn about not starting fires up the mountain.
The ranger competition and talent show was cute. LOL Sung Dong Il makes a terrible looking ahjumma!

@Lovebangwagon somehow, this makes me think that scenes close to climax may involve her begging him to let it go. Reassuring him that She’ll take care of herself without him earthside. After all he’s been stuck for so long and she seems to be one of the reasons he isn’t able to let go. Yi gang would never want him so miserable.
Such a scene would match with Kdrama style of sacrifice in love, noble intentions etc in addition to being really dramatic.

No, scratch that, I was watching Ep 7 and now have watched Ep 8. Super good and what a clifhanger.
He was wearing a ranger uniform but is big bad a ranger? HJ’s spirit being held to the ground because of the number 0 or 9 in the date is like a bad dream where you are unable to act. Really good episode. If Big Bad is a ranger – I vote for the guy with glasses. Although the cop at the community event looked pretty malevolent

Thats why its hard to understand, why he has been stuck on the mountain, was it because he want to tell her about the killer? Or …. Another purpose…
That we still dont see it yet, since we only reach ep 8. Maybe there is alot memories they make before accident.

personally I’d rather that they DON’T have a loveline, but a loveline is inevitable in these situations. It’s like every single working relationship in kdramas must end up in romance. Didn’t this writer do the same thing in “Signal”?
I protest because it’s seriously warping viewers’ expectations of office relationships. It’s pressures single attractive men (or women) to be paired romantically with the opposite sex when in reality, there exists work colleagues who simply want to do their jobs well with a competent partner. 🙂

But i honestly enjoy signal even there is no loveline, since the story so goood….
Im still loving their chemistry as ranger..since they are really great working together..

Hyun Jo’s connection to the mountain: The spirit(s) of the mountain seem to have sensed in HJ, a like-minded ‘spirit’ LOL when Kim Hyeon Su was killed on the mountain, and Hyun Jo was devastated. I believe he quit the military after losing Hyeon Su. His emotions resonated with the mountain. In him the spirits found someone who was just as aggrieved as they, that the mountain (revered as a spiritual place), was made the location for crass murders. So the spirits of the mountain bound HJ to the mountain to end the killings. The shaman girl told him that he’d never be able to leave the mountain, even if he died. As a spirit, he finds that he can touch nothing man-made, while he can move the natural things of the mountain, which seems to indicate that he’s accepted as part of the mountain. However, he’s restricted only to a certain portion of it and cannot cross the bridge to the ranger station.
Hyun Jo’s connection to YK: After the initial incredulity of YK, a bond of trust between HJ and YK developed. This, and the secret they shared for a year or so (2018 into 2019) as they worked towards the common goal of preserving the mountain and human lives seems to have bound them very firmly together. So firmly, in fact, that HJ’s spirit takes on visible and almost material form, in order to communicate with YK. He seems to have a desperate need to make contact with YK, possibly to relay a message.
LOL over how YK insisted that he stick by her no matter what and as we saw in the video clip above, she even kept tracked of him and bugged him when he was in the loo.
If Show wants to go the romantic route with them, I guess that Ep 8 has given us the possible start to it, where they choose to support each other no matter what.
As a spirit, HJ does not seem to be aware that his body is in a coma, or that by exerting himself in spirit form, he is weakening his body. I agree with the comments above, that until the murderer can be stopped and Yi Kang can persuade him to let go of the mountain (and possibly of her), HJ’s spirit will be trapped and his body will likely die.
Show has given us a great suspenseful scenario, where YK cannot reach him physically anymore, so they cannot actually stick together as they had done, but they have to communicate through proxies. So we end up worrying not only for YK and HJ’s safety, but also the safety of those like Da Won, who help YK.
It’s an irony that his spirit is seen as a malevolent ghost, when in fact he is the one trying to save lives. I hope that we will not have another ‘Signal‘ ending, but that HJ will indeed regain consciousness to be reunited with sunbae YK.

Hyun Jo thinks of the spirit/a something in Baektogol.
HJ to YK : “I was afraid to come back here, but I thought it was the right thing to do. Kim Sol told me that there’s something about this Baektogol. I’m not sure if it’s a ghost or a guardian spirit. But I think it gave me a gift. To save people.’
So when conscious, HJ was chosen as guardian, and HJ in his near death, continues as a guardian spirit, particularly of Baektogol. I believe he is restricted to the area where Hyeon Su died, and can’t go beyond certain boundaries.
Just finished marathon 2 eps. I am so frustrated with the mother but I cried for the children and frontliners😭… one thing, where are the doctors/nurses when he was bleeding like that???????? Grrrrrr….

The poacher’s wife/mother… wasn’t she one of the ahjummas cooking with the gas burner? She’s easily the most detestable character in this drama. If it weren’t for the daughters, I wouldn’t mind the serial killer putting her on the hit list next.
Did she think that buying “Sunbae” a pack of juicebox was enough compensation? She should be bowing in apology for the rest of her life.

She’s the hysterical mom/wife/sister who faints in the middle of ranting. We often see her character type in kdramas where there’s a perceived injustice. She waits in front of the police station or court house, then wails about problems and collapses in agony. So overdramatic. Do ahjummas in SK still do this?
As a stereotype, she’s as bad as the face-slapping chaebol mother-in-law. I wish this writer had more imagination that to recycle such a tiresome character.
I’m trying to watch the parts I skimmed now. I saw that the cultural researcher urged the injured HJ to come and help out when the fire alarm sounded but I lost track of his whereabouts after that.

Loved how the guys were dead serious on stage.
I also wanted to know how they managed to create the huge wildfires (and the super dangerous conditions in bad weather). From Ep 1 and 2 BTS, we see the use of lots and lots of green screen/green background. It’s amazing that many times we are not seeing the real mountain at all and our actors are really in a specially built set for the more perilous scenes.

She’s a trope alright and a hateful one at that! As residents of the mountain, she should have known better not to have a stove like that in the forest and also the protocols for the kids and residents during the fire season. SMH. We have too much real life lessons (and losses) with the California fires here.
Looks like the killer is close to being revealed. A ranger, male, slim. Park Il Hae (team lead with the glasses) seem to fit but we have not seen him in 2020 and I’m not sure of his motives. During the fire search for the kids, it was his shoe that caught fire, right? And he was with the team firefighting most of the time, how would he have locked HJ in the storeroom? There’s also another ranger that does not have a name in the cast… Any theories and guesses? My eyes are not as sharp and discerning.

Cross dressing males to look like females is hilarious in Asia but it would be “politically incorrect” to do this in the US, I would think. Bummer, I miss these kinds on team presentations since I moved here.

Probably if she really love open ending, there’ll be scenes where hyun joo wake up, and they will shoot his eyes open in the hospital, and the end.
Now that the park has opened more wheelchair access, I am hoping Yi Gang can go to the mountain and to where HJ’s spirit lurks and see each other. I’m not hoping much for romance but I would like to see HJ’s spirit have some peace (either back to his body and live or decide to stay as benevolent mountain spirit). Since he is in the mountain, he would have an idea of who the killer is and have seen that person around?
Oh dear @Lovebangwon, if that’s the ending, I’ll look for something to throw at the screen (since I can’t get violent with the writer/PD) LOL. I know Signal’s ending, of course, but still! It’s so annoying.
Hi! Just finished watching ep 7 & 8. I was distracted by this Japanese reality show Falling in Love like a Romantic Drama, so I was not able to watch new Jirisan episodes real time/asap 😁.
Same sentiments @GB. This drama better not end with an open ending. They couldn’t possibly afford another season, right? This drama is expensive already from the actors down to the rescue stuff and shenanigans.
I don’t want to see that mother again argh! She can’t even verbally thank YG and HJ 😤. She’s just so frustrating.
And the murderer/s (Sewook died so there’s only one left)! They’re the most frustrating of all. Why are they killing people??? As far as I know, at least serial killers have specific type of victims to kill, like only killing women or only men or people involve in situations that motivate killers to kill.. But the victims in this drama are like random people, or did I miss something? Just why?
I love my romance alright. I do think what HJ and YG have is romantic. They don’t have to be in a relationship, just that the camaraderie and trust that they built is romantic I guess. My perception of the word romantic was deepened? added? because of Dr. Romantic; like I expected the romance that we know of in that drama because of the title but instead there’s a whole new different meaning of romance used to describe the doctor. Oh well, HJ and YG have romance alright 😂😁.
This came to my feed today, saying that Jirisan is a dull tale. In the past, I might have agreed with this assessment, but now, no… I’ve become more patient and am not only watching for plot points in a Show like this one. Perhaps the reviewer had been sold on the romance and action from the previews and is disappointed.
I find that Show takes its time to build up histories, to give us round characters, and to tell a mysterious, intriguing tale of an evil/crazy killer who is presumably unknowingly going head-to-head against the supernatural/mountain spirit that is trying to stop him.
For once, we are rooting for the ghost LOL.
