The thread is here. (Better late than never)

Like @Growing_Beautifully, I’m not so enamored with the world-building. There’s too much sturm and drang but so little opportunity for the main leads to bond together. I have yet to see them connecting as a couple.
And now, the introduction of this new character is likely to overshadow everything.

Lee Joon. I never would have thought he would have a six-pack but…hahaha…he made me take a second look.
Let’s enjoy the show.
Thanks @pkml3! Heh! Lee Joon is full of surprises. He’s foppish and yet full of evil, manly vibes Heheheh! He’s got a pretty 2D villain role to play but he’s putting in enough effort to make it 4D LOL.
Show Execution fails in making us start liking the characters earlier. I’m not invested. They are introduced too perfunctorily in the present with tasks they do, but not with the hearts behind the tasks.
The relationship between Shaman lady reincarnation and Hwal should have been solidly established in the past so that by now, her rooting for him/supporting him makes sense. With her and her butcher minions, helping out, what need have we for the teenager, Nam Do Yun?
I’ve been wondering if Show will suddenly give us another twist and make Nam yet another hidden monster. His role seems so superfluous currently.
I was going to comment that not an episode goes by without more hand piercing and blood letting. I’ve been cringing at every scene in which hands get cut. Surely there are other ways of adding relish (or whatever show seeks to add) than by causing Hwal more injuries. More imagination and creativity is being called for. 😉
@GB I’m not sure I’ll continue with this one. It just doesn’t interest me. The storytelling is still myddled and as you said, there is too much unnecessary blood and gore – it makes me queasy. I feel so connection or attraction between the two leads, they are both wooden in terms of expressions🙄
@pkml3, Thanks for letting me know. Yes, if there’s a need to password protect let me know (but why though? Are you getting troublesome commentors?)
@Phoenix No problem. I too have an issue with this show. If it annoys me beyond a certain level, I’ll drop it. Sometimes I’m a mean bitch, maybe I just want to watch so that I can snark at this LOL. I’ll see how the feelings for the show go. I go by the feels. If they are lacking or negative, the show gets ditched.
@GB Haha that’s a satisfying way of watching such imperfect dramas – to let your inner critic out😝
I thought I posted this last night but I didn’t see it, so I’m posting again.
Happy New Year @pkml3 and everyone! I am watching this Bulgasal series! There is a lot of blood for my taste, but the present-time characters are diverging into a little family community, which is sweet. Hwal gets his modern-day version of family.
@GB, I think Nam Do Yun could be Hwal’s reincarnated son.
Hahaha – regarding shirtless Lee Joon! I binged-watched The Silent Sea on Netflix last weekend, and Lee Joon was also in it. I think his voice is clear and commanding.
We never saw who/which Bulgasal killed Hwal’s wife and son 600 years ago. We only see red-clothed Min Sang Woon killing Hwal and taking his soul.
On the topic of souls and reincarnation, hmmm, it’s like time traveling. I don’t get the cause and effect; it gets too loopy for me. Where did red-clothed Min Sang Woon’s soul go when she became a Bulgasal? Did that soul go out into the underworld and reincarnated into Hwal? Does Dark Hole have a soul? The soul was split and occupied the twin sisters? How come Dark Hole didn’t feel some sense of remedy when he killed Min Sang Yeon?
Sorry about that, @FanofTKEM.
For some reason, your posts keep going to my “To Be Moderated” pile. I didn’t blacklist before, did I? hahaha.
I’ve yet to start watching Eps 5 & 6 in earnest. But what little I saw, he acquired himself a ragtag team of misfits. I guess, he could see them as a family. I’m curious to know the identity of SiHo’s ex-boyfriend. It would be funny if he turns out to be Lee Joon’s Bulgasal.
To answer your questions, here are my “theories.”
1. The red lady (Min SangWoon or Min SangUn) was probably born an immortal. If so, she had no soul from the very beginning.
2. Based on the story, the first “recorded” migration of soul was Hwal’s soul moving and entering into the Red-Robed Lady. Hwal’s soul didn’t originate from the Red-Robed Lady.
3. Currently, Dark Hole has no soul. But we don’t know if he was born:
an immortal (if so, no soul from the start)
a monster (if so, he had a soul)
a human (if so, then he previously had a soul)
We don’t know Dark Hole’s background story. I’m still trying to piece together SangUn’s history. lol.
4. The soul cannot split. Either you have it or you don’t. That’s why when SangUn and her Unnie SangYeon were born, SangUn got Hwal’s soul and Unnie SangYeon had none (but she got the memories, though).
5. I don’t know about remedy because I haven’t yet watched the scene when Dark Hole killed Min SangYeon.
Hope this helps. 🙂
Kalimera!
I continue to watch this. I still like it 🙂
I believe that we are kept on purpose in the shadows.
As I have said in the first thread the narrator is unreliable for me.
We get to see bits and bytes like in a broken mirror.
The one who knows the complete truth is Dark Hole, but he is lying.
I am eager to see what it will happen next.
@Packmule3, I have read your posts. I haven’t commented yet, as I am in FOMO and I don’t seem to be able to get out of it. I guess I need some time to recharge.
Dear @Everyone,
Don’t be worried, If you don’t see me around here. I read most of your comments.
I don’t read those that might give me spoilers like the “Just Between Lovers” thread. <3
