I will be there!
I’m setting my alarm and hoping to haul myself out of bed in time. But I’ve been bad, staying up ’til 1am rewatching the final two episodes of My Liberation Notes.
*** Big portal. ***
It’s beautiful, exciting, and confirms a rule “the first time a character has the conviction of being a fictional hero, the portal to reality opens”. This will be re-confirmed later on in a dialogue of the episode.
*** Soo Bong meets Kang Chul. ***
Funny moments, including the famous line “his hand smells good”, absent from the script, added in the drama.
Following that, some more funny details, like how Kang Chul takes Soo-Bong’s money, almost like a school bully, with his line “I don’t act like a hero”. Of course, dude!!! And Soo-Bong understanding that he will never see his money again.
*** Yeon-Joo and Kang Chul (phone/home). ***
From the conversation on the phone in the street, or at Yeon-Joo’s house when she has to take a shower… There are lots of good funny lines. And it’s nice to see Yeon-Joo smiling again, because for many episodes, she had become very sad or disturbed.
*** Chronological breakdown of the restaurant. ***
Full of explanations and a plan prepared by Kang Chul. Here, I appreciate the arrangement of the scenes. First in the restaurant with flashbacks, then the scenes in the restaurant (+one in the street) become flashbacks. The unfolding of the plan starts a bit like in a movie like “Ocean 11”, when the characters describe their plan, but then the plan really unfolds, while they continue to describe it in voice-over. In W, it’s much more dispersed. The voice-over continues on some scenes but not all, and most importantly and inventive, the scenes keep coming back to the restaurant! Which is indicated as a flashback in the script, as the plan really happens.
One thing I don’t like is the background music chosen for the end of the plan, it really sounds too much like “a smoothly running operation”, like you hear in a lot of movies/series, with that cheap musics. But I guess that suggests what it’s supposed to show. Except that in W, it sounds strange because nothing ever works the way it should. It’s all a bit too easy and for once, the action is rushed without a care. Maybe to show that Kang Chul 2.0 takes the upper hand in a big way and manages to solve a lot of problems with intelligence, while bringing tons of explanations that he deduced/guessed. By the way, the episode ends on a funny dialogue: Kang Chul 2.0 trying to proove to Yeon-Joo that he’s better than Kang Chul 1.0. Weird love triangle.
Kalimera! I am in 🙂
Does anyone have news for @GB Unnie?
Hi Everyone,… I’ve rested and I’m around!!!
I’ve been on the go from 8am-8pm or 8am-4pm the last few days and am a little achey but still fine. I’ve decided to have the last can of sweet lemon flavoured beer while I sit back and watch this ‘W’ episode like I’m seeing it for about the first time (again LOL).
I’m sure I’ll recall the episode and what’s going on as we go along and when I read you all. Heheheheh!
I am here… 😀
I am here. Woke up a bit late, but I scrambled to get ready (drinking yesterdays coffee though…ha ha )
Hello cleo and GB!!
Hi there @salteddust and @WE, @Cleo too!!
Prepping myself now, looking for the episode!!!
Hi salttedust too.
All is ready, Coffee for me. As Sung-Moo isn’t here to drink whisky. Wait. the killer drink a whysky in the episode? I think not! His glass is frozen in the open air. 🙂
Hello @salteddust, @WE and @GB Unnie!
It is hot today over here…
Hi @WE, whiskey or no whiskey… we start NOW !!!!
@GB, look like you got a little health problem? I hope you are ok now. 😉
My husband is getting me fresh coffee!
@WE, I’m no longer used to sitting on kiddy furniture or on the floor (since Covid). Had to do that for a long time several times during the last few days… aching all over LOL.
@salteddust that is good to hear!
@GB, look at tibetan bouddists posture on the floor! 😉
Ok back to the previous scene.
Kang chul shows MANHWA 34!!
Aah this episode, the voiceover prelude to help us remember what went on before includes the villain HCH, because he’ll be the return protagonist from now.
This ias a good part where where Kang Chul 2.0 is revealing to Yeon Joo that he knows what she knows…
The Killer is stuck in the only plotline that he knows ie kill KC’s family (or near family) and pin it on KC.
@Cleo, a clever way to accelerate the story, because it would be boring we see Kang Chul get that during 3 episodes. ^^
So he made the homework by studying the manhwa, and now he know as much as KCH 1.0, and even got time to think more.
However, he get the definitive proof only now with Yeon Joo because the portal open.
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! W!W!
I was thinking as I watched this beginning that poor YJ really needs a bath and a change of clothes after so many days, but even this gets delayed yet again LOL.
@WE,
True! It saves time and it makes Cang Chul 2.0 a bit different from Kang Chul 1.0
He checks the ring around Yeon Joo neck.
It’s just 10 minutes after Yeon Joo leave for W, as Soo-Bong is in the garden.
I can’t believe I forgot that the portal opened. Too long since I saw this the first time. I am loving the intro/voice over; just enough to refresh our memories and not too much more.
What I really like is that we get to see the portal. From the outside they are comic like persons. On the inside they are humans…
@GB, Yeon Joo smells bad like a dog after the rain and even have a dog necklace with a ring, lololol. Yo bad joke I know.
@WE, I was so relieved that the portal opened LOL. Also that KC2.0 is so smart and figured it all out without us having to suffer seeing the misunderstandings continue for another episode.
I applaud SJJ for this efficient way of getting around the pesky business of bringing everyone onto the same page.
I like the consistent portal.
I really like LJS has made changes to his acting to play Kang Chul 2.0.
You can understand that he is different in a way from Kang Chul 1.0.
Car scene. Here we get a clue about how KCH think about his love story. Very logicaly as everything else. He suppose: as KCH 1.0 was in love with Yeon-Joo, he think he should be in love too with just more time.
I like the consistent exhaustion of YJ after being away for days in ‘W’.
LOL the way SB gets to meet KC2.0. And the doctor friend too.
Flashback: KCH know how the killer got out of W world. I like very much the smart plot. KCH 2.0 think about to close the portal. The writer forget nothing!!
Then the so funny comedy with KCH + PSB. ^^
@Cleo, yes, KC2.0 is slightly different from KC1.0. There is a subtle change in LJS’s acting.
Kang Chul is the smartest guy I found in a kdrama. But what I enjoy even more, it’s even with that, the challenge coming from W phenomena is such inpredictable that he often loose the matchs!!
Park Su Bong is wearing weird flip flops…LOL
Ah, the manhwa showed how the Killer walked through the same portal so KC knows to take the drawing tablet apart.
@GB Unnie,
LJS must have think a lot how to do it. It is not that easy to keep the core but change some parts.
It’s so funny how SB asks for a handshake but does not dare to look at KC while asking for it. He also exits the room walking backwards as if KC is also a ‘king’ like Teacher.
@GB, yeah, Yeon Joo exhaustion. But as in the first case, it needs some times. I could say, the writer manage to put YJ on exhaustion when the plot allow it. Before she’s just tired, until to reach the breaking point (random duration), ahahah.
SHIT! the glass of whisky is in the air!! Killer can’t drink it! I can’t drink whisky too!!
Its the computer engineer in him! He even covered up the chips and cards in the computer so that they would not get dusty. Someone on that stage crew knew what they were doing.
@WE,
That is intense… 😀
“Hope” song with the guitar intro.
That’s true @salteddust. I like the meticulous detail.
Now KC2.0 speaks to a non responsive SM. When he is ready the puts the tablet back together and prepares to shoot it LOL.
Here is the information Kang CHul 2.0 wanted to learn from the killer!
Because his hand is disappearing, he knows what the killer is saying is right!
KCH bad faith “Soo Bong proposed himself”, lol!! Lie.
@cleo, @WE, Killer just knows all these ‘facts’ about why KC will disappear … because he has gained SM’s soul and mind etc, I guess.
A persistent man. He wants to go for a date…LOL
Soo-Bong takes revenge on Kang Chul by revealing the vanishing hand. lolol.
Poor YJ does not know anymore if she’s dreaming or whether she actually lived through all that going back and forth to/from ‘W’.
Now KC has to confront the existential question: Why do I exist? What is my purpose now? I love all of these overall themes so expertly woven into the thriller plot line.
KCH has the nerve to go early at YJ home… then crazy propositions… please get naked, oh we have 5 kisses for today. With crapy excuse “it’s in the manhwa”. ^^
LOLOL @Cleo @WE, he can solve everything like a maths problem except the marriage problem.
@WE LOL I’m sure many men would like to have that excuse to propose all those outrageous things to the girls want to date.
@GB Unnie and @WE,
He has to find out, right? *grins* LMAO
LOL Soo Bong’s purse has feathers… a bit of a girly guy. KC’s disappearing hand … SB deliberately forgot that he was not supposed to tell YJ about it?
@GB it’s a bit what do ML in FNOS with this reincarnation stuff, except… the FL remember nothing, lol!! awkward.
The kiss scene… I enjoy how YJ react “oh it’s ok”… but then I never understood KCH last line “no comment”. What is that???!!
@WE,
He is falling for her like Kang Chul 1.0 did. Yeon Joo has her charms…
@WE KC is amused by the manhwa pages on YJ’s window. Did KC2.0 and YJ ever take a photo together? I don’t think so.
This damn episode 12 is where there are the most answers in the drama, but it’s damn so difficult to catch all, so dense and fast it goes.
Revelation about OSM encounter with the killer. So KCH discover he set the wrong time for his memory reset. Should have been done far before because it was too late, the killer was already self aware.
@WE,
We should also add that the jakkanim made that “deal” with the killer as well..that altered everything…
@WE No comment to the kiss is a bad sign LOL, it was just ‘meh’.
Of course it would be since he’s not in love with her yet.
We get also the idea that W worlds won’t stop after the end. Or restart from freeze if KCH vanishes.
I guess the situation is different from the first W freeze when KCH commit suicide. Only it can’t work as the killer will make the W world continue at this point (episode 6).
Then there is 2 parallel word. W phenomena is mostly a way to alter only parts of their reality.
@WE,
Yes it is another dimension with the Webtoon as their link.
Also, YJ was frustrated and vent a bit about that “kum” / dream.
As for the hospital, real world places used in the manhwa are the same in W worlds.
Now the crazy explanation: KCH is now half real world people. So he can go in W worlds like does YJ. For that, he have to think of himself.
As soon as, new explanation: first time the main character go back in W after a freeze, the world restart.
Fight scene.
I was so elated when Kang Chul 2.0 came into this realization…
I think this is the part where everything made sense.
He went to the real apartment in our world and summoned himself to W’s world. Mind-blowing!
@WE @Cleo, yes it’s only in Ep 12 that it’s clearly stated that there are 2 parallel worlds so the Title is right. ‘W – Two Worlds’. SM only controlled a part of it that he drew. So then the question becomes… did the world of W exist all along and then when YJ drew KC, did he just get created in ‘W’? Or did the drawing of KC create the world of ‘W’?
KCH speak with the killer: retarded the vanishing because he accomplishes a hero goal. Also, he have to think a way to kill the killer. He can’t do that now because it don’t fit the manhwa story (KCH can’t kill with cold blood).
Placement product SUV. ^^
How KCH return in real world. He takes the explanation “like yeon joo” first travel. Mission accomplished. But later (episode 13 and more), we don’t get the explanation, but I guess KCH force the chapter ends with his own emotions.
@GB Unnie,
I think the world existed as ours exist does. Somehow it was created a link and the jakkanim used it.
I think that I will say that Plato was used in this part. Kang Chul was an “Idea” that Yeon Joo had about her perfect man. Kang Chul as a person existed in W’s world. Hence the link between worlds was created!
I think KC is falling for her after that kiss. Lee Jong-suk displays those emotions so effortlessly without the necessity of dialogue.
Oops I forgot: and he return to the real world because he was coming from the real world!!
Then, also the explanation why So Hee won’t vanishes: remove the main manhwa goal of the character. It’s done when she think KCH is really dead. If we think about that logic, it’s worst for Seo Hee as a character to see KCH being maried with another woman (vanishes) than KCH be dead (don’t vanishes). KCH death is not part of the predeterminate fate of Seo Hee. It’s a new variable that shouldn’t happens in the manhwa. So she becomes free.
@Cleo, no, the other world didn’t have Kang Chul inside. Kang Chul started to exist in this world after OSM draw him. Timelines of the two worlds are differents, or rather, time don’t flow at the same speed. The difference depends of the manhwa.
RC: “That b***d. So I ate him up.” Real Culprit becomes the Saturn in the Goya painting. The created is ‘eating’ his creator. I see what you me @WE there is so much going on this episode, plot devices, explanation and the underlying literary themes are all coming into play here.
@Cleo that’s a very interesting concept of the ideal person existing and because someone in another world thinks of him, the connection is made. Any other examples of something similar like that?
@salteddust, the show is too dense… if I watch I have to concentrate so hard!!!
Yes the Created becomes the eater of the Creator, but SM suspected the wrong guy. It was his villain=himself that ate himself and not KC.
@WE,
Yes, but he could exist in W’s world. The thing that Yeon Joo created him, it made it a reality.
Kang Chul is a Platonic “Idea”, his perfect form is Kallos.
Yeon Joon created him when she was younger, her father made his family die…
So, I believe, if the jakkanim didn’t made his story, Kang Chul would exist regardless, and he would be another person with another life.
Here the jakkanim doesn’t take this root.
@Salteddust, yeah, I missed that line. It makes a correlation (thematic link) with the goya picture, and OSM fear to be eated.
Correction: This road
I am talking philosophically speaking here.
@Cleo… So you say, as soon as YJ draw Kang Chul younger, he started to exist in W world? I don’t know. Why not? Ahahaha, I can’t think about this hypothesis. But it’s a single drawing without any world at this point.
@GB Unnie,
This is in Plato’s philosophy about “Idea” I am using the greek world “ιδέα”. He says that everything that are in this world are the lacking image of the perfect form in its kallos that exists somewhere outside the world.
I used this logic to answer to your question… 🙂
All this is very weird about psychology. She create her perfect man. His father take that man fate in hand and kill his family. It’s like… the father cant accept her daughter should now leave the family home and find an husband. Like that, YJ is a dreamy girl a bit immature. Many psycho stuff in all that!! With alcohol on top. It’s content from deep mind the writer put in the story in spite of herself. But universal one.
Thanks @Cleo! I should read up a bit.
I’ve come to the end of the episode… At this stage, in the first watch, viewers must be wondering what now, that the Killer is apprehended, and the source of conflict is gone in Ep 12. More twists to come!
@WE,
I made a hypothesis based on Platonic Ideas. So, why not? He could exist because Yeon Joon thought of Kang Chul. The archetype is an Idea anyway! She was thinking who is the perfect man for her. and here he was!
I have finished the episode myself too!
KC: “Variables were continuously created and we have suffered the consequences because of those variables”. Reminds me of chaos theory. Also, the start of the second world could be YJ’s creation of KC when she was young (when that possiblity spins off of all of the other possibilities) — or, as speculated, be a link between already created worlds.
@salteddust and @WE, the difficulty of the 2 parallel worlds with a manhwa as the link… how about all the 10s of thousands of manhwa? Do they not also have a link? What makes ‘W’ different is the question. Why should YJ and/or her father have been able to connect directly with the parallel world? That’s one question that I don’t recall the Show/Writer even tries to answer.
@Cleo, everything is possible! Let’s think.. a flashback show Kang Chul after Yeon Joo draw him. But where is he? Maybe first scene of the drama? Because Sung Moo will take that in his story.
@GB, yeah, it’s obvious new crazy things will happen next, it’s W universe! (I speak universe of the drama)… always new problems and plot-twist to make that exciting all along. With new reasons why there are these plot-twists. Endless mind-blowing thing. It’s why I wrote season 2, because there are many new stuff and plot-twist that can happen is such a so good world building. It’s true SJJ writer exploited so far the content in 16 episodes, but there is an hidden potential in that to go further!! An huge potential! Crazy new mind blowing phenomena.
So Ep 12 is a nice breather episode where things go well for KC before the terrible events that will take place later. I feel that we, viewers, really needed this breather too. It was too fast and yet a nice break where YJ is happy and hopeful of a happy ending, despite KC knowing that he’s a manhwa character.
@GB, once you reach Ws2, you’ll have a laugh about what you just asked. 🙂
I don’t give spoilers ahahaha!
Opps Ws2 episode 5. (I thinked faster than I type)
Thanks for Season 2 @WE. I look forward to reading it.
Now it’s time for bed-die-by. *yawn*
or the Platonic ideal (mathematicians love that!) Also, with regard to KC’s third hypothesis: (#1a) “through his will a fictional character can summon the person from the real world”; (#1b) I am a fictional character; (#1c) “I summon myself” — KC, ever the logician; there is another ‘gedanken’ experiment — which apparently is being proved a reality (according to my comp sci engineering son and Wikipedia) — quantum entanglement (‘two particles link no matter how far apart in space’). I doubt this was on the scriptwriters mind, but it does through an interesting light on the two worlds theory (especially the idea that YJ thinks about KC and that initial thought creates a permanent link between them)
@salteddust: this idea was such puzzling that I chose the rational way. I takes Kang Chul as a being half real/half fiction. And Oh Yeon-Joo too, since she married Kang Chul in the manhwa and can bleed. So KCH as fictional can invoke himself, as he’s too a real guy in the real world at this point. Well, if I don’t take it like that, my brain will explode because of a logical breach. 🙂
@GB good night!! Maybe the rewatch time is too late?
Everybody is gone. I go too! Goodbye, see you soon. Will come back later and work about to find scenes from the script.
As KC is coming back to the real world — I realized that I have seen this in literature before: ‘Time and Again” by Jack Finney. The main character of that novel is able to go back in time by being in a building that is the same in the present as it was in the 1880s as long as everything is in place and is the same. I think he has to be dressed in 1880s clothes and have nothing on him that would be available in the present time but it is too long since I read the novel. Jack Finney also wrote ‘The Body Snatchers’ which was adapted into ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’.
I have to go for now as well! Good night @GB Unnie!
Have a nice evening @We!
Bye @Saltedust
@WEnchanteur, @GrowingBeautifully, @Cleopatra, @salteddust, I’m sorry to have missed this W episode’s rewatch party. Since I stayed up so late the night before, when my alarm rang at 6:30 this morning my body said NOPE. I finally crawled out of bed after a full eight hours of sleep, which means I didn’t start moving until late morning. I can do that because I have little on my schedule. There are advantages to being a senior citizen!
During this week I’ll try to watch the episode, read all the above comments and see if I have anything to contribute. But for now, since I just finished rewatching the last two episodes of My Liberation Notes, and since that’s where my thoughts are, I’m going to post on that thread, even though the show has finished airing.
Yeon-Joo is overworked.
Yeon-Joo has just fainted and Kang Chul entrusts her to Suk-Bum to take her to the hospital.
The whole scene #9 has been removed from the drama.
The main interest of this scene is when Yeon-Joo says “My husband”.
That’s not much of a reason to make it a scene.
Also, Yeon-Joo is supposed to faint quickly after her last dialogue with Kang Chul.

#8. In front of Sung Moo’s house (night)
Kang Chul puts Yeon Joo in the backseat of Soo Sun’s car when Yeon Joo wakes up.
KANG CHUL – Why? Are you sick anywhere?
YEON JOO – (whispering) I’m overworked…
KANG CHUL – Overworked..?
YEON JOO – Skip Time… For a Month… Just Like Last Time…
KANG CHUL – (!) So… can I get a good rest?
YEON JOO – You can rest..
KANG CHUL – Good luck.
Suk Bum calls out.
KANG CHUL – Are you going to Myungse Hospital?
SUK BUM – Yes. naturally. (Let’s talk) Yes Nurse Kim. go right now Please take only one inpatient room. I’m only going to do a basic lab (lab: blood test) and chest x-ray… Yes.
KANG CHUL – (In the meantime, I try to close the door while supporting the cushion well)
YEON JOO – (Grabs Kang Chul’s arm) Where are you going..?
KANG CHUL – (Report)
YEON JOO – (Afraid of breaking up again) Don’t go..
KANG CHUL – I have some things to organize. I’ll follow you right away. (a reassuring smile)
YEON JOO – ….. Do you remember…?
KANG CHUL – …..
YEON JOO – Do you remember me..? Do you remember now..?
KANG CHUL – No.
YEON JOO – (Disappointed at the moment!)
KANG CHUL – I’m just guessing. The heart of Kang Chul in the cartoon.
YEON JOO – (Face)
KANG CHUL – Oh Yeon Joo hasn’t changed, so I’ll find out soon.
What is the charm of that sickness?
YEON JOO – (…!)
KANG CHUL – (smiling)
SUK BUM – (In the meantime, hangs up and gets into the driver’s seat) Aren’t you going together?
KANG CHUL – (closes the door) I’ll follow you. I’m begging you.
SUK BUM – (Gasps)
Soo Sun’s car leaves right away.

#9. In Soo Sun’s Car (Night)
SUK BUM – (while driving, glancing at Kang Chul in the rearview mirror, hesitant to act like a guardian) What are you asking me for? (Does it) What is he? Are you familiar with it?
YEON JOO – (No answer)
SUK BUM – (Seems somewhere, tilts) Uh wait, isn’t that him?
{RECALL INSERT – in front of the operating room}
5 times. It reminds me of the scene where Suk Bum was taking Kang Chul to Yeon Joo.
SUK BUM – Turned out to be the fiance back then, isn’t it?
YEON JOO – ……
SUK BUM – What is it? Weren’t you a loan shark? I thought you came to get debt?
YEON JOO – Who is the loan shark?
SUK BUM – So, you’re really engaged?
YEON JOO – No..
SUK BUM – Aren’t you fiancee? Then what is it?
YEON JOO – Guess…
SUK BUM – What is it?
YEON JOO – (Proud to be able to finally speak) My husband…
SUK BUM – (??? looking around) What? (Had) I sat down again. (I go without believing)
YEON JOO – (Closing your eyes again.. But there is a faint smile on your lips)
Soo-Bong meets Kang Chul.
The character’s reactions are true to the script, for example “(replying like a soldier)”.
The actor makes the character more nervous. Instead of just saying “Driver?”, Soo-Bong asks what kind of drivers in the drama.
When Soo-Bong leaves the room, he walks backwards (like with Sung-Moo). This also comes from the acting.
Scene #12, the funny line “his hand smells good” was added in the drama.

#10. Sung Moo’s Living Room (Night)
Soo Bong, completely blown away, standing in front of the front door.
SOO BONG – (mumbles) It’s Kang Chul, Kang Chul, real Kang Chul, Kang Chul,
At this time, Kang Chul entered the front door.
SOO BONG – (?!! Surprised, he jumps back)
KANG CHUL – Can I come in?
SOO BONG – (Frozen) Yes, yes,
KANG CHUL – Your name is…
SOO BONG – Park, (replying like a soldier) This is Park Soo Bong!
KANG CHUL – (pointing to the shoes he just wore) These sneakers. Can I wear some?
I’m sorry, but I came here without shoes.
SOO BONG – (nodding wildly) Yes, yes, of course!
KANG CHUL – Thank you. (and looks around)
SOO BONG – At that time, we met, once,
KANG CHUL – Are we?
SOO BONG – Yes, then and here,
KANG CHUL – Ah… I’m sorry. I don’t know the scenes that weren’t in the book.
SOO BONG – Oh, yes, that’s right,
KANG CHUL – Do you have any drivers?
SOO BONG – (…?) Driver?

#11. Sung Moo’s Studio (Night)
Kang Chul looking at the tablet on the desk.
I pick up the tablet and look back and forth, when Soo Bong comes in with a tool set.
SOO BONG – Here…
KANG CHUL – (picks up the screwdriver right away)
SOO BONG – What are you going to do…
KANG CHUL – It’s dangerous. It can’t happen again.
{REMINISCENCE INSERT – Episode 9}
C#1. prison corridor
The scene where the real criminal enters the dimensional gate.
C#2. motel rooftop
The scene where the real criminal escapes through the tablet.
KANG CHUL – If it’s completely dismantled, it won’t come out.
SOO BONG – (!) Ah~~
Kang Chul, with a screwdriver, opens the back of the tablet and peers inside the complex.
Quickly tearing apart the parts one by one.
SOO BONG – But… if you disassemble everything, how do you assemble it later..? I can’t use it when I need it.
KANG CHUL – My major is computer. Don’t worry.
SOO BONG – (?!) Oh right~ (clapping hands) Oh, you majored in computer science~ (Relieved and excited)
KANG CHUL – (sighs) Oh Sung Moo, why is he like that?
SOO BONG – That’s… I went to buy a late-night snack last night and suddenly my face disappeared like that..
Just as the real criminal ordered… Just a pistol and an audio file…!
KANG CHUL – (…!)
SOO BONG – It wasn’t just a riot there, it was a mess here too. My sister suddenly disappeared and the teacher just became like that, and I was very, very scared (pointing to Kang Chul, joy of relief) and she appeared. Suddenly salty…!
KANG CHUL – (works with hands, listens and thinks complex) …..
SOO BONG – But over there… (wipes his shirt and puts his hand out)
KANG CHUL – (Looks)
SOO BONG – Just one handshake…
KANG CHUL – (expression)
SOO BONG – Because I’m a real fan.. Last time, the situation was so bad that I couldn’t even talk..
KANG CHUL – ….. (Holding his hand)
SOO BONG – Ha (better after shaking hands) Wow…! It’s me. The penthouse, I drew them all. Broadcasting stations too! I’m in charge of the background! I’ve been drawing for 3 years!
KANG CHUL – (working) Is it?
SOO BONG – Yeah, wow perfect, (he can’t help but like it) Can I get you something to drink? I have it all!
Oh, you love beer! Can I get you a beer?
KANG CHUL – All you need is water.
SOO BONG – Water! Yes sir! (going out)

#14. Country House Living Room (Night)
The living room where Kang Chul and Yeon Joo disappeared.
Time that has stopped remains the same. The dimensional gate is still there.
suddenly pick. With the sound, the dimensional gate disappears in an instant.
Kang Chul talks to the Killer.
The descriptions in scene #22 are particularly fascinating and evocative.
Scene #23, as we know, at this point the chryons have been removed in the drama because:
– it does not respect the logic of the stolen face.
– it is not convenient to read for the audience, which needs a voice-over instead.
As the two characters are in two different places, the screenplay has to switch from one scene to the other.
SJJ chooses to use scene switching as long as it makes sense and the characters are very separate in the situation.
However, as soon as they have a longer conversation with lots of lines, she uses an INTERCUT.
We see that the scene header adds up the two locations.

#19. Sung Moo’s Studio (Dawn)
With Dissolve, Kang Chul changes his mind and pours parts from plastic bags back onto the desk.
Before I knew it, I reassembled the tablet and put the back of it on the desk.
Connect the power cord and take out the pistol hidden behind the waist.
Loading the pistol, shooting the tablet, and touching the power button.

The glass of whiskey that Sung Moo was drinking is suspended in mid-air.
Sung Moo, surviving alone in a world that has stopped, is unable to calm his anger by hitting the wall with his automatic rifle. Then he suddenly stops and holds his breath.

#25. Sung Moo’s Studio (Dawn) + Jinbeom’s Apartment Living Room (Night)
Each with their guns in their hands… Watching their opponents they don’t know where they are…
The tension with the tablet in between…
KANG CHUL – How are you? How does it feel to be alone in a world with no one around?
SUNG MOO – (…!)
KANG CHUL – I love shooting and killing people, but now I have no one to kill,
The gun probably won’t fire. How are you holding up?
SUNG MOO – ……
KANG CHUL – (Laughs) You can’t follow me like last time, now.
‘Cause I got rid of the exit
SUNG MOO – …..
KANG CHUL – Wouldn’t it be better to just die?
SUNG MOO – (I’m only listening, laughing at that) Look at me… to die…?
{You want me to die?}
KANG CHUL – What would you do living there alone? Time would stand still forever.
SUNG MOO – (Laughs) Why am I dying?
Subtitles appear in Kang Chul’s eyes.
{Why am I dying?}
SUNG MOO – If you wait a little bit, you will be the first to disappear.
{If you wait a little bit, you will be destroyed first}
Kang Chul, ….!!!
SUNG MOO – You are disqualified as the main character. Run away from the killer.
Running away doesn’t solve it. Will it disappear soon?
When the main character is destroyed, the world goes back on.
I just have to wait for you to disappear (Smiling) But why am I dying?
KANG CHUL – …..!
The two face each other tightly as if they were looking at each other.
Kang Chul’s hand with the pistol is translucent…
Next to Sung Moo is a whiskey glass suspended in the air.
Restaurant master scene – outline.
A process of scattering the scenes that the scriptwriter uses more and more.
The only way to see clearly enough is to use the screenplay outline.
As a simplified outline (and because I have no other choice), I use the scene headers, as well as those of the sub-scenes in the montages.
The restaurant scene is first LIVE with various inserts, flashbacks and so on.
It’s quite classical, Kang Chul tells his plan, which is voice-over.
The plan becomes the real action, with the voice-over.
Then from scene #46, the restaurant scene itself becomes a flashback.
This is the big difference with movies using this process, usually, the voice-over continues for a while and then the plan scene is forgotten.
Here, the restaurant comes back a lot of times to serve as a guide for an important part of the episode.
I indicate all the times where there is a voice-over.
We can notice that the voice-overs often take place before the return to the restaurant. Or just after. It transitions better this way.
When we have Yeon-Joo’s voice-over at the end, it is a PreLap (voice-over at the end of the previous scene, and introducing the next scene).
Scene #49 and #89 is also a “Plan” type flashback, but not located in the restaurant.
Otherwise all the other voice-overs except the one of Soo-Bong come from the restaurant.

KANG CHUL – (eats well) is delicious. I recommend it here.
YEON JOO – (Eating while munching)
KANG CHUL – What are you mad about? Why don’t you keep talking?
YEON JOO – …… (sigh)
KANG CHUL – Didn’t you comment earlier? (Prank) I’ll try it all five times and give you a score.
out of five stars.
YEON JOO – That hand… (pointing to Kang Chul’s hand placed under the table) What should I do…?
KANG CHUL – …..!
YEON JOO – You’re hiding it now. i’m afraid i’ll see
KANG CHUL – (Pishik, putting down the fork) We were talking about eating everything.
YEON JOO – Rice doesn’t go over.
KANG CHUL – (showing his hand relentlessly) It’s been a month. Ever since the teacher passed away.
YEON JOO – (…! My heart is pounding when I see it with my own eyes) What should I do..?
KANG CHUL – We have to work it out. (In the meantime, it returns to normal)
YEON JOO – (trembling) How do you… solve it…?
KANG CHUL – In the meantime, I talked a lot with your father.
YEON JOO – (surprised) Did you talk to your dad?
KANG CHUL – I don’t know who Oh Sung Moo is, so I met both of them.
YEON JOO – (?!)
KANG CHUL – So I got it. Why our plans failed.

KANG CHUL – There’s something your father didn’t tell me.

YEON JOO – (!!!)
KANG CHUL – That’s why turning it back into a dream didn’t help.
He was still awake, and I had no memory.
YEON JOO – (…!)
KANG CHUL – I made a mistake. I got the wrong timing to turn it into a dream.
So that’s how things got messed up.
YEON JOO – (Face) Then…
KANG CHUL – So I thought about it… (and) I make a promise.
YEON JOO – What…?

KANG CHUL – I make one promise.
YEON JOO – (Looking back)
KANG CHUL – If you leave here again… go and draw one picture.
Yeon Joo misses the fork as the memory pops up.
KANG CHUL – ……
YEON JOO – What do you mean..? What else.. (laughing) Do you want me to make it into a dream again..?
You want me to draw this as a dream again…? (I’m already neat and excited and I’m in tears) Then you disappear from here again…? You can completely forget me and live a casual life, but I’m left alone again, repeating this memory twice again…?!
(Crying) Why are you dating when you’re going to say something like this in the end? Why did you kiss me a while ago!
KANG CHUL – (listening) I didn’t talk about the dream.
YEON JOO – (excited) That’s what you’re talking about now! You’re asking for the real culprit to go back to before he realized it! That way everyone is safe!
KANG CHUL – (That’s right) That’s Kang Chul’s suggestion in the comics.
I don’t think so.
YEON JOO – (…!)
KANG CHUL – At that time, I was in a hurry and had no choice but to
Now I still have time to think, but it’s not.
YEON JOO – (Face)
KANG CHUL – I don’t want to live the same life again.
I don’t want to leave only layered memories for Oh Yeon Joo.
YEON JOO – ….. Is that so…? (wiping tears) What do you want me to draw?
KANG CHUL – (pulls out some pictures from his pocket) Draw this.
Yeon Joo, wiping away her tears, was surprised to receive the photo.
YEON JOO – What is this… what…?
KANG CHUL – I think your father can only come back when the real culprit is dead.
Also, I don’t know when I’m going to disappear because I don’t even have the qualifications to be the main character.
YEON JOO – (…!)
KANG CHUL – There’s still only one way.

Kang Chul, standing in the dark, suddenly an SUV appears in the corner of the parking lot.
Kang Chul, when you walk right up to the door and open the door, the key is already in there.
Kang Chul smiles and gets into the car right away.
Cliffhanger.
I cut some other scenes to get to the last time we see the restaurant.
Scene #92, a sense of surprise when Kang Chul first sees “to be continued”. Not very discernible in the drama.
After capturing the killer, Kang Chul actually stays longer in W, a few days. This is not felt much in the drama.
He returns to the front of the killer’s apartment.
He can go back to the real world because “his mission is over”.
This is still quite confusing because basically his mission is over as soon as he has captured the killer, if we want a pure logic.
The following scenes are more about Seo Hee, and the confirmation on the radio that the killer is imprisoned.
So we see here that a high-concept needs some flexibility. Without it, it hinders the narrative too much.

I’ve made a bad job at commenting here (I was in a hurry because I’m late about providing script examples).
A technique used often in scenes: “INSERT”, like “RECALL INSERT”. It’s a small part of a scene using a short flashback. As weird as it is, there is no “END FLASHBACK” at the end like there is in western screenplay. The few I understand, a blank line is enough to say it ends.
