Old American Lady (OAL)
Hi BODers, I’m sitting in the hospital as my husband dozes, so ai’m looking at BOD posts for distraction. Just want to say that Jinyoung plays the younger version of the Yoo Ji-Tae character in When My Love Blooms, a real tearjerker that has just appeared on Netflix. This drama goes back and forth from the characters’ younger years to their present. Anyway just thought someone might be interested. K Dramas are wonderful distractions. When I come home from the hospital they are great for decompression.
This first scene!! Something to laugh about right from the start. Everything to press where it is necessary on Yumi!!!
For more fun, it’s RUBY doing the boyfriend search for BaBi.
And that oh-so-good line:
“For the sake of the country’s future, I’m going to insist until I find her a boyfriend!”.
Yumi, …!!!!!
SJJ is pushing the limit now -> The ex on TV!!! π
Just saying…any girl for BaBi is prettier than Yumi, and the new one is pretty enough to replace the old one. And most importantly “This is exactly the kind that will work”. Gnaa ahah. Laughter between the girls for emphasis. “I have that feeling”, “Really”, giggles Hi hi. Yumi pissed off!
Flashback to the fatal mistake we didn’t see episode 2…
“Let’s stay friends.” π¨ Alert! π¨ Alert! π¨ Alert! π¨
NEVER say that! It’s now clear that he’ll be looking for a blind date very quickly!
The explanation was not ones we had otherwise anticipated.
Meeting in the hallway! Ruby who is still pressing!
The expression of the actress with that annoyed side not wanting to show it. Gosh.
BaBi might now go to a REBOUND to forget Yumi. ^^
Meeting to correct the draft… Yumi in the sky.
Oh Shit, this is all so good!
Now, Detective reminiscent of the ring thrown in the trash.
A situation from season 1 that serves full purpose NOW!
The perfect flashback at the right time.
This line: “I think the answer will come out if I think about it a little bit”.
Completely double meaning between the draft correction, and what she wants to tell him about “My feelings might change”.
07:20 and so far: Top notch at every moment on the screenplay!!!
I need to manage to be more concise because here, really we could comment on every detail.
But how?!!???
BaBi looks at the umbrella… way to make us understand that he thinks of Yumi one last time before going to the blind date. He types a text on his smartphone. We can think that he is writing to the blind date (especially because of Yumi’s cells before, dreaming of insignificant but warm messages), but feeling… If the writer does not show us the text (with voice-over), it is suspicious.
Indeed… and it is solved rather quickly…
Yumi receives a message from him!
But… suspense… he just says he wants to return the umbrella… ARGH!!!
Is it just that or more? ARGH!!!
As Yumi’s cells are shaking, I bet it’s only that, to better deceive her!!!
It’s typical to return the stuff or throw it away when you want to forget someone.
AAAAHHH… This is beyond my anticipation.
GAG, the message is at least 5 hours old!!!
Voice over referring to the bus situation from the previous episode.
“the bus has already left. I’m always one step behind.”
Good example of correlation (callback), giving a better overall cohesion.
All this is pretty crazy, because in Yumi Cells, there are no dangerous situations, life and death issues. But when you look at the way it’s written, it’s exactly like a suspense series with plot-twists. The whole situation for example is a series of expectations, resolutions with a new Hook, surprises galore.
And then “TWIST”: BaBi is always awake.
And the twists go on and on and on afterwards!!! Crazy!
All this with the support of the reactions of Yumi / Cells, the typical emotion that we have when the heart beats we hope for something. All this with the impression of making plans on the comet (expression meaning “to create oneself illusions”)
Yumi goes for it!!!! Emotion Cells in buldozzer mode. (As if she didn’t read the two signs I just mentioned)
The actress is excellent. Here she makes light aegyo. Light!
The moment she thinks she doesn’t know the result of the blind date.
-> Right there!! Baby types a text on her smartphone.
Gosh, this is all as thrilling as W, except the genre is different.
“Let’s go out”… “What?”… aahaaaa Let’s go out… Yumi’s misunderstanding.
I have to stop commenting on everything like this, I’m never going to make it, everything is excellent.
This is FAILURE!!!
And now… now that the situation has been pushed to its very last possible limits…
PLOT TWIST!!!
Ruby reveals that he didn’t go on the blind date.
Lololololol, I didn’t see that coming. T T
BOM, Ruby reveals everything more, about him still thinking about Yumi.
Yumi is hovering in another dimension right now…
HEART FEVER TIME.
Emotion cell can make fall in love without love. A fairly realistic description… but can lead to a misunderstanding, as well as a success if Love cell wakes up. However this concept is used more as a very short boost here.
When Yumi is running in the park, detail: She passes the same runner she passed in season 1 when she was trying to reach the first guy before Ruby.
After this physical effort, Yumi gets her feet back on the ground. Fever Time” comes to an end.
New visual trick: Sparks of light are shown on Real Yumi.
Visual trick: blurred character encouraging her in the background (used in season 1 on bus posters).
Visual trick: video game style energy bar on the side.
Visual trick: Heart icon on BaBi (video games like “Sims”).
LOL, sequence of correlations/Callbacks. Jumping rope avoided, freesbee caught.
Oddly this is shown in flashback, when there is no need, though:
– I just rewatched Season 1, so maybe the audience doesn’t remember it otherwise.
– This leads to the observation that the previous time was a failure.
Doctor: Yumi has stress-induced gastritis.
Of course!!! After such a series of Twists! lol!
The whole audience has gastritis now!
No coffee… Just when it’s time for me to make one.
Too bad, I’m still making coffee!!!
3 Explosions of HEART FEVER TIME, and she thinks she had no reason to be stressed lately! (+the scenes before)… Yumi doesn’t doubt anything.
BaBi’s heart piercing technique.
There is a French expression “faire du rentre dedans”. make a breakthrough.
That’s exactly right.
Series of flashbacks, and I also note: continuation of the scene by the pond.
There’s a bit of dispatch, or at least hidden scenes or scenes with a hidden sequel.
BaBi gives candies that we guess mint (confirmed later).
Looks like a calculation in advance for a kiss after the car ride… ^^
Sexy cell guesses… And so does Yumi. We can see a (new?) cell, the tongue cell, in charge of eating the candy.
Again a scene with a Twist.
This makes me think that for any scene, we can ask ourselves the question: Is there a way to deceive the anticipation of the audience? That’s the technique used here. Well, throughout the episode or drama certainly.
– Expectation: Candy mint, BaBi will ask for a kiss.
– Wrong: BaBi asks Yumi to get out. She takes off the seat belt.
– Expectation: Nothing will happen.
– Wrong: BaBi puts his hand on Yumi’s hand before she gets out.
– Result: Short kiss! Feeling test… Seems ok. Long kiss.
BABI WORLD!!!
I could feel it coming… A very strong intuition that the writer was not going to take long before showing it. ^^
It’s done however with respect to the concept… Otherwise, it should have been shown from an external narrative point of view. When passing through the wormhole, Love Cell passes bubbles (maybe the saliva bubbles of the kiss lolol).
Kate
@WE! Brilliant
‘ Yumi has stress-induced gastritis… The whole audience has gastritis’
You have captured the viewer experience so wonderfully here.
I was driven nuts by the scene where Yumi was waiting for the text message — the ‘someone is typing’ dots appearing and then disappearing … I was on tenterhooks with Yumi and her cells!
That kiss scene was quite something!
I was a little surprised at Ba Bi’s cell village … thought he would be more tortured poet… but very enjoyable either way!
Exwriter
Hello al!
Yumi’s Cells continues to be a treat. As someone diagnosed with ADHD, I have the constant urge to fast forward through a lot of scenes when I watch kdramas (even Woori the Virgin which was my fave just before YC2 is not spared). I don’t seem to have the urge at all to do that with this one though. Savoring is the right word I think as I ruminate on all the scenes and how our everyday thoughts are depicted in cartoon form via the cells.
Anyways, what’s most striking to me in the 2 episodes so far is how forced Yumi sounded when she confessed to Babi that the feelings were mutual. I believe cause Love Cell was not part of the decision? I felt no warmth nor deep sincerity in her words – what I imagine a rational but loveless decision should sound like when uttered by a person such as Yumi.
I had to check what Yumi sounded like when she asked Woong out on a 2nd date in the ER (S1E4) and you could feel her warmth and sincerity as she did so. Certainly a testament to how each scene is so well composed in this series and, more importantly, to the serious acting chops of KGE!
OAL, I hope this part of the internet continues to give you even a bit of joy as you navigate these trying times.
Kate
Loving the OST again – really good to hear the songs from Yumi Season 1 again -creating continuity and pulling at the heart strungs.
One of my favourites.
For fans of Gilmore Girls — the music is – similarly- oh so integral to and expressive of our characters’ moods and various plot themes.
I forgot to mention: so good use of illustrative flashback when Yumi is falling and touch BaBi chest. In a kind of time stop… flashback about him making sport. Gosh, Song Jae Jung is really my favorite writer!! Always the best screenplay move at the right time. So inspirational. Her writer friends are a good support here too. Ping Pong process about twisting more the ideas.
Kate
I also enjoyed the retrospective analysis of Ba Bi’s courtiship style… curve balls!
He has been making powerful and deliberate moves on Yumi in a way that wasn’t in Woong’s repertoire.
Ba Bi is a smooth operator. He is confident and comfortable with his desire for Yumi and making things happen.
Naughty Cell marvels at Ba Bi’s confidence.
They are moving forward much faster than Yumi did with Woong. Higher risk levels for sure.
Kate
@WE – epic kiss scene indeed – if that is what you mean!!!
Kate
and if not… the general sense of jarred nerves and frazzled tension in Yumi! I also felt that. So cleverly written!
Old American Lady (OAL)
@WEnchanteur, Amy husband came home from the hospital yesterday. Will now do lots of tests outpatient until we have firmed up his treatment 0lan. Am c a utiously optimistic that we caught this early.
I had hoped to watch the next two episodes v of Yumi’s Cells 2 but fell asleep and woke up to see Woong’s face. Said tomyself turn off the TV and watch while lucid. Seeing Woong said plot complications so I bestbeful.y present when iwatching. LoL
To me, this drama is satisfying like a good meal. And the animation is soo good. I hope Koreantoy manufacturers produce toy versions (adusney does it, why not Studio Dragon). Stuffed versions would be so cuddly-comfort toys.I’d buy them
During the kissing scene, we see the tongue cell. This seems relevant to me. On the other hand, it’s strange that we don’t see it working. Except that soon after…
BaBi’s tongue cell comes into the scene!!! Ah ah, of course the writer wasn’t going to miss that. My anticipation was deceived, this is better than I expected.
“I’ve wanted to meet you for a while”… Translate to BaBi had been dreaming of kissing Yumi for a long time!
“Then I put on some music”… Immediately, music in the drama. π
π The cell dance. π
I can’t believe it… but I do!!!
FINALLY, Yumi is going to lose that horrible hairstyle.
It seems the writer also had a vision that the hairstyle was ugly.
Scene with cells with short hair and tied up. To the mine, to the mine!!!
Cell hair!!! (blond)… weaving hair.
Sexy cell comes with an erotic book…. I didn’t know it made hair grow.
I would have expected another cell like “sophisticated nutrition”, creatine based food supplements, well that kind of thing that makes people obsessed when they look at the composition of any meal and are interested in vitamin supplements.
Immediate danger situation! Emergency!!! Well, in Yumi’s universe…
Power outage… This requires a quick and IMMEDIATE intervention of BaBi!
The heroine is in danger! She can’t take a HOT shower anymore.
She might DIE OF COLD during the night! And possibly eaten by WOLVES. π±
So, the ONLY POSSIBLE solution: sleep at BaBi’s. gno-gno-gno-gno.
We don’t see any ice outside but there is on the window:
“Caution, slippery surface”.
Like a situation that is sliding towards…… something very HOT!
Gosh… 10 minutes later, Yumi forgot she had the patches on her face. π
Bah yes, the writer makes her put patches on before, so that can necessarily serve a purpose!!!
BaBi who thinks she left the patches on purpose…. BUT WHY?!!! π€£
What’s in his head???
Mmmmh… something like:
“She doesn’t want sex tonight and lets me know by putting something horribly ugly on her face”… yeah yeah, I think that’s a valid reason.
So………. when she says she didn’t mean to, she’s unintentionally giving him the GREEN LIGHT to have sex with him tonight???? π²π²π²π²π²π²π²
All the cells unjustly arrested for doing the wrong thing (because it was dark). And of course, every time something that makes Yumi more embarrassed.
He removes his tie in slow motion with a sound that is both eerie and sexy (kudos to the sound engineer for managing to produce something so improbable). π
Yumi: I didn’t bring my pajamas (=only a sexy nightie).
He gives her pajamas, but I have a feeling something will go wrong with that….
Ok… let’s see what happens next… (I’m typing my remarks as I watch).
Oh crap. It’s only the top!!! She’s supposed to be naked underneath. π
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What the fuck, this drama is insane!!!
She comes out with the pijama top on, the thing barely four inches above her naked pussy.
And BaBi comes out… with the bottom!!!!!!!!!!
Now it’s like she’s giving a clear signal that…. Okay BaBi, I’m here to have sex with you (that’s twice now she’s given a signal).
Shit shit shit. This just keeps getting more phenomenal!!!
Baby shaking his shirt… he’s getting hot. (or rather, he’s still getting hot).
It’s too late now, it’s like she’s been LARGING for SEX. He gets the message… He takes off his jacket… “Should we do it together?”… π€£π€£π€£
BUT NO!!! ππππππππ
It was just to give shampoo.
Again Yumi understands everything backwards (and so do I for that matter) and just gives extra signals to demand sex!!!!! Oh Gosh, I’m not going to survive this series of plot twists. Pure genius. Fucking genius. π
ML in the shower… For you ladies. π
Yumi is watching the TV. I’m not sure what it is, but by feel… maybe one of the last scenes from the movie “Old Boy”. The characters walking through the snow. Something completely out of whack to the last degree.
Then… cover scene. (A kdrama without a cover scene is not a kdrama).
Any idea after that is funny.
The heartbeat cells that can’t hold and evacuated by ambulance.
The makeup cell that couldn’t check BaBi’s boogers. !!!!
Many close-ups on BaBi’s face.
But also on Yumi. I take this as an invitation to identify with one character or the other.
Yumi is tying his tie. By the way, do you know the meaning? When a woman does this, it means: you are my man! If you didn’t know that and you’ve been making random tie knots when you shouldn’t have, I imagine you’ve been through a lot of funny, absurd and certainly painful stuff.
The famous library we saw in tons of dramas (there’s a fight scene here in the last episode of Grid).
I would love to eat this “hot roll”. It doesn’t look like any bread I know. It looks soft like brioche.
Problem from Yumi’s mother’s point of view now. It’s like she changes boyfriend overnight! The situation is exploited to the hilt like a pig farmer!!! Everyone likes ham or ribs. But the rest can also be sold and eaten, one way or another!
Yumi will reread a story she wrote a long time ago. Some cells convinced it will be good. As I did this a little while ago… I can only say… the ideas were there, but the writing was horrible. So I expect a severe disappointment for Yumi. Even more so because the screenwriter has a maximum chance of having gone through this too and reforging this situation.
This happens, but again, Yumi makes a false assumption: it’s too late to write well. Actually no, writing is mostly a matter of age and life experiences that have nothing to do with writing.
Finally, she makes another mistake: quitting to write. Writing doesn’t pay. She should just ask for a part-time job. Be able to work at a light enough pace to have time to write in her spare time. Of course, that might work one time in a thousand. But hey… I spend a lot of time on writing forums, with people deluding themselves, when there’s only one spot for every ten thousand. They are tortured to the extreme, and become unable to even write.
This situation is strangely handled very quickly, for such an important situation, but…
More… ah! Of course, we can trust… such a thing is not going to stay in the shadow. The opinions of the cells, like reality TV interviews.
*** start situation ***
They talk about going to a restaurant, but it’s full.
Hypothetical scene! With cell “reaction #1” and Yumi dancing around knowing she’s going to BaBi’s!!! Reaction nΒ°1 scolded unfairly, because this cell can only do very simple things.
Now, Yumi wants to go to BaBi’s… after a fight between cells, she makes a long tirade about how it’s out of the question to go to any other restaurant than “Julie’s” where all the seats are reserved. To be sure to go to his place.
Visual trick: a lot of information is displayed, like statistics. This is reminiscent of the Japanese drama Liar Game, except that here the information is added to the scene in real time.
Then… of course… Phone message: free places at Julie’s house. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Yumi refuses… for no reason… and wants to go to BaBi.
She goes out in the street, and… ahaha, has a “happy” reaction.
Funny: BaBi just needs to look out the window to see this, and understand what she wants!!!
*** End situation ***
An isolated situation but nevertheless complex in the way of presentation, between real, hypothetical scenes and flashbacks.
Yumi sells her rice cooker.
I have the impression that her buyer is not just an anonymous person, but that it will cause a mess. Who could it be… Wong???
….
AAAAH!!! It’s him, for once I’ve got it right! π
Logically (in a kdrama)… BaBi should come in the scene where she meets Wong.
Let’s see……….
And no!!! At least not in this episode since it’s the cliffhanger. Unless there is a silhouette that passes in the scene (BaBi’s, as it is the case in the supermarket).
I still can’t get over Yumi’s decision to quit her job.
Kate
More on Ba Bi’s method of getting through Yumi’s barriers… (Ep 3).
Viki have now changed the sub-translation of Ba Bi’s courtship approach a ‘curved ball’ strategy to a ‘fast ball’approach. So it is Ba Bi’s straightforwardness that is so successful rather than his use of what I understood to be stealth/surprise attacks.
All of this is helpful in getting a handle on his character.
Interesting, @Kate. Iβm glad you noticed the revision.
To those who donβt understand baseball idioms, @Kate got it right.
Fastball: itβs a ball coming very fast at the hitter. Itβs not difficult to hit as long as the hitterβs reaction/response time is equally quick. If BaBi has a βfast ball,β it means he easily flusters Yumi with his quick decision to court her, and his candid expression of his feelings.
Curveball: the pitcher spins the ball so it curves as it comes at you. This is harder to hit than a fastball because of the change of direction.
If Babi has a curveball, then it means that he flusters Yumi with his unexpected move. She doesnβt see it coming. He keeps surprising her so that she doesnβt know how to interpret his words or understand his meaning.
Lol. I get why the Viki translator is confused though.
If Babi is a fastball, it means heβs simply a straightforward person.
If Babi is a curveball, thereβs a connotation that heβs sneaky, devious, and a bit underhanded. I guess, we donβt want to think of Babi as a sly one.
I wonder how the Kissasian subber chose to translate that.
Kate
Hi @Packmule3 – thank you for expanding on this! I checked just now and KissAsian have translated it as ‘curve ball’.
Another change is in Ep 4 where they are waking up from her overnight emergency stay at this flat. They have changed ‘ beginning love is a pit pat battery’ to ‘in the earliest stages dating is a heart-fluttering battle’!
I looked up ‘pit pat battery’ and couldn’t quite understand the way the translator was using it. ‘Heart- fluttering battle’ is easier to grasp!
In this battle, Ba Bi’s heart keeps getting ‘robbed’. Should that be ‘stolen’? I like ‘robbed’ a lot – but just wonder if this is a translation error.
BTW. I loved the expression on his face when that ‘ robbery’ happened. His whole face softened. Jin Young is doing a great job at conveying subtle shifts of expression and intensity.
Cleopatra
Oh I laughed so very much yesterday.
The episodes were great!
Old American Lady (OAL)
@WEnchanteur, @packmule3,@Kate, @Cleopatra, Withmy husband home and waiting for outpatient tests, I have watched these two episodes. Yumi wants to write and abruptly quits her job, much to BaBi’s dismay. I was thinking about another reason that probably has nothing to do with the plot. In Korea would a workplace romance, especially between members of the same unit, with BaBi being Yumi’s sunbae, constitute sexual harassment? It would certainty cause complicationons.gven the fact that BaBi is Yumi’s sunbae.
The kiss, the sleepover and the fan service shower scene were favorites. I am still on the fence regarding BBi’s courtship style. I want these two to have a relationship(so does writer) , however if I was Yumi I would proceed with caution. Babi does not seem to be a player, given his former relationship, but he seems to be going fast, even if he is charming. And, I also see this as a possible rebound romance for Yumi. This type of romance often serves as an interim one where the parties gain confidence but move on. And is Woong’s reentrance foreshadowing things to come. Looking to see if Babi will show up.
I like Jinyoung a lot. We know that Kim Go Eun is an acting powerhouse. He is a good match for her. A weak actor would be upstaged by her talent but he matches her. Same for AhnBo Hyun. The casting is well done in this drama.
I also love her parents. Her mother is a hoot and her dad is indulgent. We also see that Yumi comes from a working family and did not grow up rich. She has earned everything she has. The participation award revelation was so ironic. Everybody gets that award so it becomes worthless. The use of Yumi’s treasure box was another great way that the writer provided more character development.
And finally, I love all of those cells. I want a cell doll. Korea, please make them, and keep them cuddly. The use of animation just adds to the fun of this drama. It would be nice to find out the voice actors for these. What a good timel
Kate
Hi @OAL!
I hope your trip to outpatients resulted in some helpful information!
Agreed that our male co-stars are absolutely meeting KGE at the right level. Jin Young said that and KGE are similar in personality – he debuted around the same time but is not as experienced an actor and the fact they got on meant that their relationship facilitated his performance.
Kate
I am still reflecting on the difference between gentle, kind Ba Bi’s exterior persona and his inner world! There must be a reason his character has been written and presented like that and the narrative drew our attention to it.
Is it simply – what a refreshing surprise here are all these happy, party animal cells?
Or is it telling us about his drives perhaps being different in a way that might create problems later?
Kate
In other words, is he meant to be slightly enigmatic or are we simply meant to be delighted at his relatively uncomplicated interior world??
Or are we simply alerted that he is Mr Feelings?
MilkTea
@Kate, thank you for those updates on the translations! The current versions do make more sense.
I’m also very intrigued by Ba Bi’s inner world! I thought it felt very fitting to what we know about him when we first saw Love Cell dropping into a beautifully dense and serene forest at night, but then I was surprised when we were introduced to a bunch of dancing, sombrero-clad cells! Yumi’s cells really don’t seem to know what to make of them yet and honestly neither do I.
Though they seem to be moving full steam ahead (the Xmas plans!), I still feel like Yumi has some reservations about Ba Bi… probably due to her Love Cell not being totally on board yet. I know a lot of people are Team Woong but I hope seeing him once last time will give Yumi closure so she can move on. Woong was happy to see Yumi stay in her comfort zone even if it meant she wasn’t really fulfilled, while Ba Bi encourages her to take risks and grow.
Kate
This is a fun BTS of our ML and FL in various scenes we have just watched. Made me smile!
@AOL, anyway, it’s true that having a relationship at work is not easy. We have a scene in front of the elevator and they hide their relationship. In the long run, that would be embarrassing. But I don’t know if that was a factor in Yumi’s decision.
The reaction of Yumi’s parents surprised me (which is pretty good!). I thought they would be upset that Yumi was switching guys, but in the end, they were pretty happy that she had someone. If I remember, she first said she broke up with him (disappointment), then said she had a new boyfriend (joy).
@Kate, thanks for the BTS, I’ll take a look π
I think BaBi is a quiet guy seen from outside, but having a tumoultous romantic inner life. I expect some passionate drama and arguments with him, like with his ex-girlfriend.
Old American Lady (OAL)
@Kate, Thanks for the BTS. Our l Eads look lime they are enjoying working together. They have nice on screen chemistry. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall of the ca s ting process. They seem to be easy going and professional.
@WEnchanteur, I think m you are correct and that the reason Yumi quit her job had nothing to do with sexua, harassment but with her desire to write.
Also thanks for the examples if the Yumi cell dolls and figurines. They are so cute.
Do we now have a love Triangle coming up with BaBi and Woong. Complications are arising fast. I hate to see team Woong or Team Babi. But it looks like we’re being set upl
Janey
Iβm totally enjoying YUMI 2 and the (mis) adventures of the cells. JY and KGE really upping the acting and the cells continue to enrich the narrative and behind the scenes. And Iβm putting it out here, that was one well executed kissing scene!!! From Babi to Yumi, to the dancing tongue cells. What a novel way of breaking the kiss down to the details. Itβs #1 on my kdrama kiss list. π
Kate
@Milktea – ah yes! The serene scene and the dense forest etc were more expected. I had forgotten the opening view. The writers are again playing a little game with our expectations of who Ba Bi is at this stage.
Kate
@OAL – I found it instructive too watching them film a carefully orchestrated trip down the stairs. That’s quite a risky thing for an actor to do! I was interested in the way they broke it down into a number of shots!
ps -what is the Turkey?!! is my question not part of the link. haha

Annyeong BOD’erz πΌ
I enjoyed Ep 3&4 very much β€
I noticed that our Cells have ultra powers now. was that there before? Like Sensitivity cell’s ultra power makes Yumi fall in love without Love cell. Naughty cell’s ultra power makes yumi’s hair grow by reading his rated 30 stories? hilarious. @WEnchanteur, thanks for your pretty detailed rundown of these episodes. your reactions are funny, too. i wish we all could watch these episodes/show together. all our reactions would be like watching the Yumi’s cells in their village. haha. what cell would you represent? hmmm i would like to be writer cell haha. π
i love Babi’s world, the tonque cells, the kiss **boom boom!!! oh my. Babi’s tonque cell is a go-getter. that hair, that english, that dance! π Ohh lala indeed. so funny with that mint. he’s now smelling minty haha.
the food they ordered is called sundae. i have yet to try it. i will definitely be looking for that somewhere now haha. but that stair slip! wow! slow motion – yes! let me see that fall. and the strong chest bump! haha yes, Babi works out peepz! he’s not a wimp! haha. love it! nice catch Babi! π
i love how Babi’s straighforwardness broke down the gate – even reason cell is now a Babi fan! haha i understand why Love cell is not all in yet… even tho she’s entered BAbi’s cell village… and got a welcome she never expected. I love the song they wrote for her. πΈ
black out scene with yumi forgetting her facial mask on. i was cracking up. no wonder they weren’t showing her face. the bathroom scene!! who wouldn’t misread “let’s wash up together??” haha. we got a SHOWER SCENE folks! haha. HOT HOT! i take long showers. oh my. poor Yumi fell asleep haha. i liked that even though nothing happened during their first sleepover – yumi still felt it was the most romantic night because she felt she was loved β€ gotta love those morning heart fluttery moments. their terms of endearment… yumiya is what made LOVE CELL fluttered – the turning point. awww
@WEnchaunter, i don’t get why Yumi quit either. but her younger self thinks old Yumi taking the challenge is cool. π cool! maybe that’s the point. go all in. no holding back. sink or swim π i do wonder if Yumi will be like Woong when he ended up living in with her coz he was poor. ??? i wonder if Yumi and Babi will also live in together. ??? esp now that the rent went up. Poor Yumi. i feel her though. i feel poor too.
isn’t it interesting that Yumi has changed. what she used to dislike, now she likes. is that a bad thing? that yumi likes everything about Babi these days? relationships sometimes widens our horizons. we end up trying things we never did. that’s a good thing!
that episode ending… i had a feeling! omg!!!!!!!!!! i was like NOOOOOO!
i don’t want this series to end in Season 2 folks. but OK. Ep 5 and 6 will be interesting…. i have a feeling Babi will be in boyfriend mode. go Babi!! can’t wait to see how their first Christmas will be π
Old American Lady ( OAL)
@HK_Lady, I read that this drama will be three seasons. I don’t want it to end yet.
HK_Lady
Thank you @OAL πΌ
You just made my FRIYAYYYYY!!! happpPPPPYYYYY π
let’s do this! yes!
Welmaris
In recent episodes the director is making much use of showing us variations in scenes: what is wished/lusted for or feared, and what actually happened. The alternate narratives are inserted without fanfare, and it is up to us viewers to figure out which depicts Yumi’s reality versus imagination. This technique is applied to flashbacks as well. So I must applaud the show’s creative team if they were filming last year what they would use this year. I imagine that is the most cost-effective way to do it, rather than assembling actors and crew a second time in the same filming site. The parallel scenes in YC1 and YC2 where Yumi is running through the park: if they had the foresight to film both versions on the same day, kudos to all!
I was gratified to see that Show acknowledges there might be reason for Yumi to be cautious with Babi. In Episode 3 when Babi and Yumi kissed in Babi’s car (I assume it was their first kiss) and a wormhole developed between Yumi’s and Babi’s worlds…
Y Reason Cell: That was fast. I never imagined that Ba Bi would open the wormhole this fast.
Y Love Cell: This actually works out. I’m glad I got this opportunity so quickly.
Y Reason Cell: Love, where are you going?
Y Love Cell: I’m going to Ba Bi’s village. I need to see for myself what kind of person he is. If he’s a total jerk then it’s better to get it together and end it quickly.
Y Reason Cell: Love! Be careful! Love, have a good trip!
Voiceover: Love is right. A man who doesn’t hesitate and has no self-control. Ba Bi does seem like a really amazing guy but he also seems really dangerous. What kind of world is Ba Bi’s world? Worst-case scenario he might be a sociopath. Or it could be a terrible perverted world.
Yumi’s village is by the sea, which sometimes breaches the walls and causes damage. In Ba Bi’s world, Yumi’s Love Cell drops into a dense coniferous forest. The tall trees could represent a protective, constant, upright character. But in literature forests can represent threat: a trackless tangle; gloom and blocked vision, a place where frightening things hide. Fortunately for Yumi’s Love Cell, she sees the nearby village. There she is greeted, serenaded, and welcomed by Ba Bi’s Love, Reason, and Sensitivity, and by many other cells. Her arrival is celebrated with a fiesta. “It was a big surprise. Ba Bi’s world was neither gentle nor calm. There was no artificial intelligence cell or algorithm (references to Woong’s world). A totally new world. We arrived in a new world overflowing with roses, guitars, and romance.”
I find it interesting that Yumi’s cells aren’t all female, and Ba Bi’s cells aren’t all male. I can understand why Yumi’s Naughty Cell is male, because women do produce a small amount of testosterone and it contributes to sexual desire. But I’ll need to think more on whether there’s significance that Yumi’s Tongue Cell is male and BaBi’s Tongue Cell is female.
I laughed that Naughty Cell brought two books to help stimulate hair growth: one rated 19+ and one rated 30+. Books aren’t rated like movies, but in motion picture rating systems around the world, including the Korea Media Rating Board (KMRB), many reserve explicit content to ages 18 and above. Adding another year to 18+ is like saying, “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!” Adding twelve years to get to 30+? I doubt 18-year-olds would be thrilled by things that excite people thirty and over: getting a good night’s sleep, paying bills without financial strain, owning a reliable car, securing a home and keeping it in good repair, etc.
Um…@WEnchanteur…when a woman uses a large shirt for night wear, she might keep on her undies.
@WEnchanteur, what Yumi was watching on the TV in Babi’s apartment looked like scenes from A Piece of Your Mind (supposedly) in Norway. This would be meta, because the male lead in A Piece of Your Mind is Jung Hae In. Kim Go Eun starred opposite Jung Hae In in the movie Tune in for Love.
I think that Yumi’s falling asleep while BaBi showered demonstrates she feels at ease in his apartment. She also slept soundly through the night, which is another positive indicator. And I found it sweet that BaBi slept next to her on the couch rather than climbing into his bed alone.
Quitting her steady employment to focus on writing is risky for Yumi, but I applaud her bravery. She’s not done it impulsively, having planned a budget that allows her to live on her savings for awhile. Yes, she’s put her former career on hold while her peers continue climbing the corporate ladder, I think she’s wise to give herself the chance to do what she really wants before entanglements in her life make that impossible. If she knew what Woong had endured since they broke up, going bankrupt and shutting down his business, she might have had second thoughts. But Yumi, during her careful budget consideration, may have come up with an exit strategy and financial limit which activates it.
@AOL, Hi. I hope you are well and your husband too.
Hospitals are a place where we wait a lot.
Yumi Cell’s Ep 3. I start to watch now!! Not really a comment, but I’m so happy to watch this, it’s like… I’m about to eat a juicy steak. π
@WE -could not agree more! This show is sheer enjoyment.
I’ll comment later – have seen 3 and 4 but want to re-watch.
You will be pleased re hair related matters! LOL
Episode 3
Meeting at the cafΓ©.
A shot of BaBi looking at the CAM, as found by Pm3 in her QuickTales.
So, Yumi’s subjective point of view π With Bo-Boom Bo-Boom.
And of course, series of disappointment:
He doesn’t invite her to sit at the coffee shop! He gets up to give her the umbrella.
Then all efforts to have an attractive outfit fall apart:
“It looks like you have a date today”. OOOOoahhhhh.
Cellule Raison with the BB shirt. π
Fall scene (with palpation of muscular pectoral muscles as added value to the clichΓ©)
@WE! Brilliant
I’m starting episode 4 NOW!!!!! Aahaahahaaaahahahahahahahahahahahah. π€ͺπ΅π
@Exwriter: I read you later for fear of SPOILERS.
@Kate: so you have feel that too? ahaha huge!
@WE – epic kiss scene indeed – if that is what you mean!!!
and if not… the general sense of jarred nerves and frazzled tension in Yumi! I also felt that. So cleverly written!
Stuffed versions would be so cuddly-comfort toys.I’d buy them
Episode 4
Oh I laughed so very much yesterday.
The episodes were great!
In other words, is he meant to be slightly enigmatic or are we simply meant to be delighted at his relatively uncomplicated interior world??
Or are we simply alerted that he is Mr Feelings?
This is a fun BTS of our ML and FL in various scenes we have just watched. Made me smile!
https://www.soompi.com/article/1531752wpp/watch-jinyoung-teaches-kim-go-eun-got7s-just-right-dance-practices-their-1st-kiss-behind-the-scenes-of-yumis-cells-2
Your idea of a cell doll exists! There are also figurines. π

@Kate, thanks for the BTS, I’ll take a look π
I think BaBi is a quiet guy seen from outside, but having a tumoultous romantic inner life. I expect some passionate drama and arguments with him, like with his ex-girlfriend.
Itβs #1 on my kdrama kiss list. π
@Milktea – ah yes! The serene scene and the dense forest etc were more expected. I had forgotten the opening view. The writers are again playing a little game with our expectations of who Ba Bi is at this stage.
@OAL – I found it instructive too watching them film a carefully orchestrated trip down the stairs. That’s quite a risky thing for an actor to do! I was interested in the way they broke it down into a number of shots!
@Janey – me too – #1 for sure… am having difficulty forgetting it! JY’s band mate (Bam Bam) clearly thought his boy had done a great job and put a short edit of it on Twitter too! https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/lifestyle/hobbiesandactivities/835346/got7-s-bambam-praises-jinyoung-in-kiss-scene-on-yumi-s-cells-2-get-it-my-boy/story/ – what is the Turkey?!!
ps -what is the Turkey?!! is my question not part of the link.
@HK_Lady, I read that this drama will be three seasons. I don’t want it to end yet.
Thank you @OAL πΌ
You just made my FRIYAYYYYY!!! happpPPPPYYYYY π
let’s do this! yes!
