Hello @GB. I’m planning to rewatch it too but after it airs on Netflix on Sept 18. I think the details are very fresh in my mind right now. I’ve done a mini rewatch in the four days between break between the final episodes. I’d say the show is definitely rich and more aopreciated when rewatch and tied to later events.
I also want to wait for it to air on Netflix because I want to contribute to it rising a little on the international platform (lol as small as that contribution will be). Kdramas have made their name but not Cdramas yet. I think this show has been better than all kdramas I have watched this year and honestly I’ve watched good shows.

At first the show was my distraction between AOS waits, but now I’m fully sucked into the story. (And into DFQC.) Story has much more depth than I expected. Even the bad angel has a legitimate reason why he’s bad and he shows some shades of grey. Much better baddie than Jin Mu.

@Cleo, to begin with, I believe we can try for 2 episodes per rewatch. I don’t think we can manage more than that as it will be way past 11pm for @Viva. Also, if I choose to delay dinner, it will be past my dinner time. However, as @pkml3 mentioned, we might find other days as well for the rewatch. It’s just a matter of whether we can synchronise our times.

I’m where Fairy wakes up and her bracelet shimmers magically. It seems to tell her that Destiny Books need to be attended to. But after 2 or so episodes, we never see her looking at the bracelet again.
Nice to refreshing the beginning. So right from the start they know Xishan goddess can stop this war.
I love Orchid’s bracelet! And noted that Arbiter hall roof is leave shape.
Anyone know what the Arbiter is talking about? She mentions a misfortune and that deities and humans can do nothing in the face of it. She’s drunk but she could be referring to Goddess Xi Yun. I believe she’s speaking to Orchid.

Poor Orchid has been lied to since the beginning. Siming definitely didn’t tell Orchid the truth of her lack of power.
Lies she has been told:
1. She says that her cultivation and power is bad because Siming spoiled her immortal root with wine.
2. Siming went to the mortal world to play but it was because she was punished in a place (i forgot). Maybe she made sure Orchid can manage before she left. But then isn’t there another Arbiter hall with Siming?
Why do destiny books need to be repaired? Complete their lives? Revive dead people?

I take it that the lies were to protect Fairy, but I noted how ironical they were. She was the most powerful but she thought she was the weakest. However, it was true that everyone could tell that her immortal root was weak or bad… so… maybe in this life, Arbiter deliberately did something to her root so that no one would suspect that Orchid was Goddess.
Yup, I never could figure out why destiny books had to be repaired. Was that not the same as changing someone’s destiny? A No-No??

Think MS’ primordial spirit is that whitish blue ball of light that kept banging at the matrix and tower walls.
Yes, the 7 emotions were separated from him or he was separated from his emotional root but the tree was still standing, although frozen. However before that, the 7 emotions were still around MS but not able to get back inside him until the kiss. Fairy got the emotional root started with her touch that activated the Xilan Holy Seal and united him to his root again. So the 7 emotions were able to return to the owner LOL.
@grace, where did you see Lord Dong? He was only mentioned to be in seclusion.
I like the instrumental piece until Fairy gets herself strangled on the vine LOL.

These immortals live too long… they get irresponsible and run away or disappear and don’t come back for 10s of thousands of years. CH’s mum ran away and Arbiter committed a crime that put her away.
I was interested to note (later) that RH as well as MS call the Immortals hypocrites.
Fairy Yu Li is a spiteful fairy. Orchid is very brave in her own way… she will go on her own to claim what she’s entitled to, despite how she’s bullied and maligned.
I wonder how they get or accumulate spirit stones if they are just plants doing no work. Fairy has forever been spending spirit stones but I also wonder where she gets her pay from LOL.
Hmmm why would Master not want to Orchid? She should know Orchid is Xishan Goddess. Is it really CH who saved her life?
Orchid’s love for CH is a bit like fan girling the best boy. Note that Orchid flowers blossoming when she is really happy. I wonder it if happens again later in the future episodes. Will keep an eye out.

Orchid thought she was a small orchid flower with damanged immortal root that Arbiter didn’t want. That Changheng persuaded Arbiter to keep her. He had an expressionless look on his face. Did he really persuade Arbiter?? That Changheng saved her. He said he didn’t remember what happened.
But I think Changheng already knew about who Orchid is isn’t it…how?
I loved that her flowers bloomed with her happiness. She really is like the one who causes growth and new life. Changheng did look quite cool with that flowy white outfit in the forest.
In Chang Heng’s Destiny Book, it looks like he’s falling backwards into Haotian Tower…as the symbols of the Tower are behind him.
So many immortals and they still can’t seal the tower until a lowly Fairy intervenes.
@Grace we must be cross posting! That plot probably used to cover us viewers her identity later. But looking back it doesn’t make sense, isn’t it. She loves him for something we don’t know if CH actually did.
@Viva, yes the flowers bloomed when Orchid was happy to see the Cloud Whale. But only this time in Ep 1 and then in that other episode we see it. Her garden however is always in full bloom.

@grace, I’m wondering if there was more memory wipes going on because CH did not really seem to remember saving Orchid and only she believes this. This was one of the mysteries of Arbiter… why should she throw Orchid away.
I don’t think CH really knew anything much about Orchid. She helped him when he was injured and strangely, he hung around with her for some time before leaving. He wiped her memory of that time from her.
Even the fairy plants tell her that Changheng saving her is a lie. I agree with you @Viva that it is like she’s fangirling CH from all the stories she heard about him. Maybe she hasn’t met him before till that day? She might have accidently ran into him in the forest when she thought she will meet him at the Shuiyuntian place when she’s going to register for the exam.
@Viva, Master Arbiter not wanting Orchid is probably a lie? After all, no one knows that Arbiter is punished in this faraway place only CH knows…or even he isn’t sure too.
Wonder why they want to keep all those spirit stones for…limited collection?
The 7 emotions broke out of the tower once Fairy came in front of CH. They seemed to have been waiting for her. When she appeared they came to bring her into the Tower and then ushered her to where MS was suspended.
When she held him off by placing her hand on his chest, the lights came hitting them to bring her closer to him. His eyes blazed the colour of Hellfire. Finally the lights struck her arm enough so that she fell against him in a kiss.
Green light emanated all around them. Now then we know that that was the Goddess of Xishan’s light. It/Xilan’s power brought together MS and his primordial spirit so that he regained consciousness. Only Xi Yun’s/Xilan’s power could do that.
The lights seemed to expand in beautiful colours and then coalesce upon them. Fairy wakes in a different environment. She is in the Heart Sea of MS, where everything is frozen, including the Love Tree/Tree of Feelings.
She of course must touch the tree and this leaves her traces all over it that starts to bring healing and life. We do not know yet that this was absolutely essential for the end episodes where MS would need her power in his Heart Sea to trap Evil God.
@GB now you mentioned, that’s a memory wipe, he did remove her memory of him, so he needed to say he didn’t know about him saving her. Though it is the other way round, maybe that’s why he was confused?
I’ms amazing that even as an inexperienced fairy, Orchid will be so brave to save CH. Risk her life and die out, despite remember her warning from Arbiter. She really changed CH’s fate.
Orchid actually took the hit for CH, and the lights changed from the Hellfire (the blue light?) to the 7 colourful lights
The lines of the CH’s destiny book have broken. Isn’t that the concept of palm reading?
That black/blue ball should be the spirit of DF CQ before being repaired,injected the 7 colours back. Note the blue? I take that is DF CQ’s hellfire. Also they use the same blue when DF CQ was burning his spirit in his dream.

Later episode, CH will get flashback of how he had met Fairy when he was injured in the battles. Instead of going back to his brother he hung around with Fairy and she nursed him/fed him. He liked her then. When he left, he wiped her memory of that time.
All Fairy recalls is that strange tale of him saving her from Arbiter. She met him in the forest a few times and liked him like all the other fairies.
Yes probably wanted to be in the same palace as him/her idol.
Spirit stones are their form of currency in their realm. Fairy used them to buy elixirs from Jie Li.
Die out = 灰飛煙滅. Like dust flying out in smoke. Ashes to Ashes. Which is why they always show the spirit crumbles in dust too. Like Orchid and DFCQ death.

CH removed her memory because he had fallen for her but he was engaged. He sadly left her. However he had her handkerchief with orchid motif on it. He also searched for the Magic Firefly Stone in order to give it to her (but without appearing to give it to her).
I thought that the blue light was already there banging around the tower and the 7 lights were swooshing about also at the same time.
I don’t understand the hair cutting scene but I know the hair pulling shows that they are connected. However Fairy in MS’s body did not notice that what she did affected him.
And he NEVER told her LOL. Until much later. She also never knew that she gave orders that he could not refuse when the Xilan Holy Seal was activated.
Yeah it’s as if the lights recognized her and her “heart curse”. It’s like the lights know she is kinda of a healer? You know one who put things back together and causes things to grow. After all, she caused a dead tree to grow again. It’s like she has the gift of life.
I realized when MS opened his eyes and ‘sucked’ out through Orchid, it was the kiss that completed the transfer. Now looking at it closer, it is quite a beautiful revival.

Different Renditions of Death
Who dissipates and who remains as a corpse which needs to be buried?
Chidi, despite being considered a goddess, still retains her mortal form after death.
But Goddess Xi Yun and Moon Supreme dissipate and don’t get buried. Is that because they are the true immortals?
Seeing Fairy cry and demanding hair back, MS restores it to the way it was, which was a sign that he did not mind reverting/admit he was making a mistake.
MS : “You’re the first person in history to threaten me.” (Also the first after he became MS to not judge or fear him.)
Fairy : “You’re also the first person in history to make me cry like a man.” LOL
MS thought that the body swap would undo itself when they get out. He really doesn’t know what is happening
@GB maybe Orchid is like some magnet attracting all the lights. Somehow these lights didn’t harm her as it intended to for CH.
I think hair in the ancient times is like a person’s glory, makes you pretty. They doesn’t seem to like having short hair so it is not a good thing to have short hair.
On ep2 now
Here Dylan’s acting like Fairy was really awesome. It really looked like Fairy in MS’s body. Very convincing.
Love the scene of CH entering the painting.
Here’s when RH refused to go to the party thrown by Yun Zhong. RH and CH on the boat in the fairy painting. CH is upset that his brother and the others did not care about the lost Fairy in Haotian Tower. Even RH calls them hypocrites (just as MS had done) whom he did not want to talk to or drink with.
These 2 friends preferred to be on the boat and drink together without the rest of the fairies.
The boat passes through Xishan in the painting. RH notes that Xishan is such a good/beautiful place.
RH : “I think that Goddess Xi Yun must be stunning.” (But at this time we do not yet know that he’s been looking for Xi Yun for Evil God and not found her yet.)
We get confirmation that CH is in love with Orchid from the orchid handkerchief.
Ahh @GB @Grace I am quite a bit slower than you now after the effort of typing Chinese (too slow) haha.
This show is worth rewatching! Yes the colours of green and blue make sense now! And the tree, where Orhcid left her power pr spirit behind later.
Also very fast pace.
Look at DF CQ hahahah!!! Very funny when Orchid’s spirit is in his body. Fortunately Dylan hasn’t over acted otherwise it would be funny. In the novel, DF CQ is meant to have silver hair and black robe. So this probably is a nod to novel.

I thought that I was slower than you both because I was interrupted and had to leave the computer for a while. Seems like I’m ahead.
I’m where the 2nd kiss is about to happen. Haotian Tower is fortunately full of lightning, hence the kiss would swap them back.
I wonder why they don’t realize the hair pulling affects each other? when Fairy in MS tugs the hair, MS in fairy’s head gets tugged. This is kinda of a loophole? Just because they are connected, they are physically connected in terms of movement?
the 魂飞魄散 (soul leaves the body and scatters) seems to be like a common theme for Xianxia stories. In Ten miles of Peach Blossom you can gather these scattered soul parts to piece the soul back. But without special powers, or special equipment, it probably is gone forever. Also it take a super long time to fix it
I find it so funny when MS restores the Orchid’s hair it was like to appease that whining kid on the supermarket aisle wanting her chocolate.
@GB Master’s word in Chinese is 灰飛煙滅 but subbers translate it as “die out”. It is right, but lost the poetic side of those words.
The cute thing is that the Xilan curse is one directional. All the things that happen to Fairy, MS would feel but she does not feel a thing if something happened to him.
Yes the piecing together of spirit or soul is common. But in this show we get shades of Goblin with all that disintegration but only done by Fairy/Goddess and MS. No one else disintegrates like that (the Haishi City people were killed by MS that way but they didn’t do it by themselves).
Wow, I love the CG of MS’s costume coming together on him in so many pieces. He looked so impressive.
He was terribly mean… wanted to kill Fairy although she had helped him see the Nine Stars. The Xilan Curse saved her.
So funny how Orchid says
“Besides, stealing one’s job is like killing one’s mother, I can’t do these things.” so she doesn’t go be a busybody and try to do other people’s job.
It’s the idea of doing what you are responsible for and not overstepping your boundaries or responsibilites? Sounds so serious, ‘killing one’s mother’. Seems like they take their calling very seriously in the heavenly realms.
I wonder what MS mean when he tells Orchid has Moon tribe traits. Sense of responsibility?
@GB, someone mentioned that the picture in the painting is a reflection or a painting of Xishui or Xilan realm. (i forgot the name for now)
I like the way they did MS’s eye makeup with double eye lid liner and shadow under the lower lid. Don’t know why that should make him looks so good although evil.
Agree @GB @Grace, Dylan as fairy is so funny!!! I am watching the crying scene. So funny! He does this funny pouting or helpless face. T I have started Meteor Garden. His acting is really so much better now.
The painting remind me of Master’s pen that got mentioned in the later episodes. With her pen, she can turn drawing into real objects in the destruction of heaven.
One direction make sense because Orchid spirit, or part of Orchid is with DF CQ so he connects to her feelings. Whereas Orchid doesn’t have any of DF CQ spirit, so she won’t feel his feelings.

True @Viva about the one direction being affected because of the piece of spirit that Fairy left with DFQC, and not vice versa.
We see that Fairy listens to ‘wrong’ news about CH bringing all the sinful mortals back to Haotian. So she may have heard false news about herself and CH and so that’s why she is mistaken about her own backstory.
I love the advent of Shang Que. He is underwater waiting and then he gives the Hellfire sword back to MS. At his command, he takes on the form of a human. So impressive. We hear MS say that MS is a true mortal who cannot die.
Xilan curse or is it the same as the heart curse? Is probably a curse to the person who got it but a protection for Orchid.
Yes I really love how cringey he has to act when he is Orchid. After so many dramas, he really has improved in leaps and bounds. I’m watching clips of the variety shows he is in and he really is a fun character to have. His weakness is that he would want to always win, he has this strong pull and he later said in Wonderland S2 after losing the sports match that he is learning to accept not winning.
Die Yi is looking for Goddess Xi Yun and does not know it when Fairy passes her on the street.
Chain of events – Jie Li can tell how many spirit stones there are just by the weight in the bag, but she’s scamming Fairy with elixir that will not heal her immortal root.
Jie Lie gets Fairy to deliver things to Haishi and so we get Fairy getting tied up with RH and MS coming to save her for the first time. I really like that rescue scene.
So MS also gets entangled since Fairy’s well-being is important for his health LOL.
The elixir will be the same one that almost kills Fairy and MS has to help her again.

Dylan has quite a fair bit of eye make up as DF CQ, possibly light brow eye shadow around the outside corner of has eyes and eye liner goes beyond his eyes. I think actors put heavier make up when they are in costume drama.

I would say Orchid is quite a good student. She remembers many things her Master tells her “Master taught me not to expect reward while giving.”
I thought that MS is so nice to fix the Haotian tower…then it is also so that it will not raise any alarm that he has escaped.

DF CQ shows his cleverness or plotting ability. He repaired the tower so it is not obvious that he has escaped.
ahh spectacular dragon. In the novel there is no dragon. Apparently the dragon lover (Cheung Yuen?) of ShiMin should be the last living dragon in that universe.
Ahh now we know why RH is looking for flower spirit. He is looking for Xishan goddess.
Fairy’s bracelet tells her that a Destiny Book is around and needing her attention. She finds that levitating leaf of Chidi’s but does not know who it belongs to. And so RH and Die Yi will forever be after her.
MS and SQ are at Xuanwu looking at the elite army turned to stone. We get to see Chidi’s sacrifice and how the sword became the source of the seal that even MS could not break with his Hellfire.
Chidi tells MS not to underestimate the enemy. He looked down on her for being a woman. But when the armies approached she killed herself and when she withdrew her sword, her red light flooded the plain, turning every one on the ground to stone. MS was fortunately in the air.

Yup, MS was very good in strategy. No one figured out that he had escaped but later at least RH went to check. The rest of the useless bunch of immortals never even knew that their prize captive was gone.
In the novel there was only Chang Yuan? I’d have liked a few more dragons. After all SQ mentioned the wedding of dragons.
I’m on to the part where Die Yi captures Fairy. Her whipping alerts MS that something is happening to Fairy whom he’d practically forgotten.
And MS’s eyebrows is so thick and dark.
I liked that Orchid is not proud about her saving CH, she is actually more relieved that he is safe.

I’m wondering why some of them call themselves immortals. You mean mortals live among the immortals in those realms? Shuiyuntian has no mortals for sure but the Cangyan Sea people feel like mortals. Not the Yunmeng Lake realm. It’s interesting how these various worlds build up.
Does it mean Chidi woman is not an immortal? because MS was saying he is an immortal. So it seems like there are 3 categories of people.

@grace in books I read in the past, I read about 金剛不壞之身, literally means Gin Gan never be broken body. Gin Gan is a very strong mineral.

How did MS think he could unseal the Shoufeng Sword the second time when he couldn’t this round at ep2? he tried during the battle when Orchid killed herself. Plus he had less power the second round.

Yes, I wondered about why the Destiny Book was unnamed. I felt that it should not become unnamed even if someone died. Perhaps it was magically changed to be unnamed to hide that it was Chidi’s Destiny Book.
I’m guessing that MS really was stronger than all the warriors of the 3 realms (Shuiyuntian, Yunmeng and Cangyan Sea). Even with her death and primordial spirit sacrifice, Chidi could not kill MS.
I feel that the translation loosely lumps immortals as those living ‘above’ Yunmeng. It also loosely sometimes means only the Shuiyuntian people and not the Cangyan Sea people.
Your 3 categories may well be right. Like I was asking, how come some disintegrated and some had corpses that could be disposed of.
I think MS was about to use Evil God’s evil spirits because his sword at that time emitted black smoke.

I love the grand entrance! For a moment it was like a batman on the moon silhouette. All that cinders fire and power energy just shows how powerful he is.
The size contrast is quite dramatic.

I absolutely love this rescue at Haishi. So good in CG and so impressive!
We are doing all kinds of counts in this Rewatch, so I thought I’d count all the different rescue efforts and times Moon Supreme went out of his way for Fairy. At first they were out of his own selfish need but then the count changes when they become more and more for Fairy’s sake rather than only for his own.
RESCUE AND HELP COUNT
Haishi City rescue (Episode 3)
If not for the fact that he had no emotions yet, and was looking so stern throughout, this was actually already a rather swoony rescue. He makes her tiny to stand on the palm of his hand and he ‘puts her away in his pocket’ LOL to take her out and tell her the most swoon-worthy words but in the most serious, unsmiling way ever LOLOL. And Fairy starts to think he has fallen in love with her. I just LOVE THIS!!!
I love how she shook his scary sharp nails gloved hand as a means of farewell that failed, and after the exchange of words, how he looked at her uncomprehendingly when she spoke about there being more fish in the sea. It was so funny on rewatch.
Why this rescue was so impressive. Before he even appeared, he’d stopped Fairy’s descent into the cauldron and while doing that, he killed the soldiers on the bridge, he effortlessly miniaturised Fairy and kept her safe and then decimated all the Haishi people.
Instead of blue Hellfire, though, he used a powerful energy that flooded in from behind him… the energy of the Moon? (Maybe the Moon Tribe harnesses power from the Moon?) All the soldiers disintegrated in embers and bits plus smoke. A whole pulse of energy hit Haishi (beautiful CG!!!) and even Die Yi was flung back.
With just a flick of his wrist, the Cauldron was split, causing evil spirits to be released on the townsfolk.
This first rescue was actually the most impressive in terms of show-casing MS’s power. Hence his claim that he was the most powerful in the 3 realms, does not sound like an idle boast. We see that in order to merely contain the Haotian matrix, Yun Zhong needed every one of the senior immortals to be on hand. He even had to recall Chang Heng to help.
But a single Moon Supreme could devastated a city. I feel that MS always held back on his power. Although he could have unleashed greater destruction, he limited damage to just the ones who were in the wrong. He also did not initiate war. What he wanted to do was retrieve the lost honour after Shuiyuntian continued to skirmish with the Moon Tribe and took their lands after they were already beaten.
I was guessing that we never again get to see such a fantastic rescue of the energy pulse from the Moon, because the CG must have cost a lot. LOL. I thought it was even more impressive than Hellfire.
Yes, MS comes really like the Moon. We see light appear like a crescent in the dark sky. The crescent Moon grows into a full and huge moon in the night sky as if the dark disk of night could be slid back to reveal the round, bright Moon. I wonder if he absorbed some great power from the Moon to just make all those people disintegrate!
I didn’t see much of Hellfire.
It’s his biggest huge blast besides the one where he saved Orchid in Shuiyuntian. Yes, the ability to have great power is the control over that power. Just like in AOS isn’t it?
Also seems like Dieyi doesn’t know who MS is….she must be quite young?
“I’ll cut their skin off and make a human lantern of it.”

Without my permission, don’t leave my sight. “
The funny part of this the misunderstanding Orchid has of MS and that he continues to let her misunderstand it later on.
He is really smart because he knows what to say and what not to say unnecessarily.
I guess Die Yi still thought he was in Haotian Tower, so she couldn’t figure out who this new, powerful guy was.
The really funny thing about all those Swoony Lines (we are doing a count of those too) is that he really didn’t understand what she was talking about. He was dead serious about keeping her safe while not knowing that she thought he was declaring his love for her, even until 3 or so episodes later. That was the best of the misunderstanding.
A note on the consistency in her character: She tells him she’s just an orchid plant, so he checks her true form.
MS muses: “How can your immortal roots decay so much.”
She’s upset that he peeked ie did not respect her privacy. In the future we see this is consistent because she keeps him out of her mind by wearing the Heart Hiding Hairpin.
At first MS scoffs at the mention of Tai Sui. He thinks Tai Sui is just some ancient legend. He had dominated the 3 realms with no weakness. How to relate or subject his life to a mere flower spirit?
But immediately he starts tearing up LOLOL, because he is subject to the mere flower spirit who is now bawling loudly over the loss of her elixir. So off he goes to Shuiyuntian to check on her, and we get their great domestic scenes in Arbiter Hall where they are constantly at odds. Loved them!
Wouldn’t Dieyi have said, he felt like MS? Or maybe she really haven’t even met him. Considering Orchid is only 1500yrs old. Do you know how old is CH? He is definitely older but not as old as MS.
Yes it means differently when he said it here and I can imagine when he says it again later on, with sincerity instead of in a threatening manner.
Hmm no idea how old CH is. He was a ‘kid’ 30,000 years previously, and did not know that MS had been imprisoned instead of killed.
Poor Die Yi was merely used by Rong Hao all along, eventhough it seems she really cared for him.
Oh! So the idea of TaiSui is an ancient legend to MS only! So Taisui is really a mystery to every one till it became a legend and no one believes in it anymore.
The irony of MS’s power is that he now is at the mercy of a weak orchid spirit. But it is that he can really experience a different heart. It’s like putting himself in another person’s shoes.
Orchid: How come it’s you again? How did you find this place?
MS: No matter where you are in the world, I will find you and make sure you’re safe.
(sounds so assuring and romantic isn’t it but it is also to save himself!) But yes, it will be something he will keep on doing. He will keep on finding her!
Orchid:I’m just a seed picked up from Yunmeng Lake an ordinary orchid cultivated in a pot at the Arbiter Hall.
MS: If you play dumb again, I’ll seriously hurt you.
(You mean he doesn’t believe she is really speaking the truth?..but he is also not trusting)
LOL when she cries, he cries and he can’t even wipe the tears from his face because of his scary gloves. Loved that costume because of those gloves.
He says more swoony words with a serious face : “No matter where you are in the world, I will find you and make sure you’re safe.”
Fairy tells him that he’s the one compromising her since she cannot be harbouring/sheltering a criminal. It was safer for her if he stayed away from her.
We see that this is consistent for the early episodes. Over and over, Fairy tries to get MS to leave, to turn himself in. It bothered her so much, she never recovered her full spiritual energy, although MS tried all means to help her strengthen.
Yup, in the beginning he did not trust her. Especially when he sees that she had some power to grab the Destiny Book from him and they fought over it with her exerting power. Loved this scene where he’s levitating her in the air.
MS has suspended Fairy in the air, over the Destiny Book to interrogate her. He can’t hurt her by torture so he just scares her by levitating her LOL.
MS thinks Fairy has been lying about not knowing spells. He thought Chidi was dead but now sees that she is in the mortal world for hardship/tribulation experience.
He finds out that she’s the only one who learnt the trick of taking care of the Destiny Books from the Arbiter. So he’s stuck with taking care of her to get her to fix that Book.
I found that they didn’t focus a lot on his tears, like it wasn’t obvious or they didn’t close it on it. (probably eye drops since he wasn’t sincerely crying). The costume reminded me of what Dylan said when he was wearing it. That he couldn’t even use his phone. It’s like those battle wear.
First time he is calling her “Little flower spirit”

Was what he saw in Chidi Woman’s destiny book her lives in the mortal world? All the many times she died?
O: How dare you still read it? If you mess with the destiny books and change karma, you’ll be destroyed, do you know that? I’m doing it for your good.
You mean it’s so easy to burn the Destiny Book? What happened when it burns?They were the ones to spoilt it! lol….now she has to fix it. Maybe it was also a problematic Destiny book book to start with since it has no name as well.
The story of Chidi woman has been kept a secret too. So her contributions has not been proclaimed. Is that why Ronghao is upset with Shuiyuntian people too?
LOL CH comes and goes without getting all the hints that Creeper dropped and now Fairy cries again and MS has tears streaming down his face too.
Poor Fairy is too tired to fix the Book. She gives him a litany of all the bad stuff that happened to her that day, so he can see how unfair it is that he’s forcing her to fix the Destiny Book that night. She pouts. He looks at her with a frown, but relents.
Then we have the whole delicious misunderstanding about him spending the night with her to keep an eye on her LOL. He considers the Arbiter’s room small and she asked if he lived in a palace. He could have said ‘Yes’! LOL. (Irony count!)
You got a point there, since he can’t physically harm her, he has to levitate her in the air to scare her. Plus she is so easy to tease and scare 😛
Creeper totally gave the game away!!! CH’s crush towards Orchid make him not be able to carry out his tasks well. He suspected something amiss but how could he not check? Creeper gave such a big hint. He is really trying not to do anything to like Orchid and not meeting her is a relief then.
Yes, it was not obvious when he was ‘crying’. I did manage to see them a couple of times.
About the costume – I’m always amazed that they can walk and climb steps, sometimes without lifting the skirts without tripping.
She tells him she likes someone else and closes the door on him before he can finish what he’s saying. No one has ever been that rude to him before LOL that expression on his face. He has to contain his anger but he goes to her room ‘to punish her’.
He does several close examinations of her face. I felt that he was showing her that he could do anything to her easily, it was just a dominant person showing off to intimidate.
They end up having a shouting match over him keeping her safe and she saying he’s the only danger to her in Yujing LOL.
Fairy : “I hit my head, why are you moaning?”
She thinks he’s quite caring when he orders her not to hurt herself anymore. She smiles sweetly at him and persuades him to go to his room. Loved how everything that happened to her got to him, her yawning, hitting her head and later on, her rumbling tummy. … His tummy also rumbled.
Honestly I enjoy this interactions of MS & Orchid at the Arbiter hall. MS being really angry with Orchid but not being able to do anything about it. I’m also liking Orchid’s pouting and cuteness really nice too. If she wasn’t like that I think she wouldn’t have been so believable.
And their quarrelling is like them in real life.
Good question: ‘Was what he saw in Chidi Woman’s destiny book her lives in the mortal world? All the many times she died?’ – I never caught that, but you could be right! He saw her in different places and as Chidi in red so he recognised her even without seeing a name on the book.
I think they wanted to fix the Book in order to read the destiny. The lines and symbols did not appear for long or clearly enough. The leaf looked burnt. Don’t know how it got so damaged.
I think the Fairies knew but they did not mourn her death the way Rong Hao did. The history books may not have made it clear also about the death of Chidi because they hid that she didn’t kill MS outright, but rather that he had been imprisoned, unconscious. The lie had been maintained by the Yun Zhong bunch. Maybe that affected the truth of Chidi’s sacrifice.
EPISODE 4
COUNT OF FEELINGS (Joy, Worry, Sadness, Pity, Love, Hate, Jealousy were the 7 emotions mentioned but now we get another one)
FEAR starts to return to MS (Episode 4)
Fairy’s dream where MS gets killed by CH and CH is displeased with her and kills her too scares her awake and reminds MS what the feeling of fear is like. It’s been a long time since he’d those feelings but Fairy was inadvertently helping him remember.
True, their squabbling is like them in real life.
Loved how the Xilan Curse took effect and he has to count every single flower in the greenhouse LOLOL.
He wonders for a while what magic she used to bewitch him and then figures it’s the Xilan Curse. SQ is ordered to find the Book of Xilan where their secrets are recorded.
He reads the Book of Xilan and finds out to his horror that in order to kill him his enemies only need to kill Fairy.
I like how the camera goes round and round MS and SQ who sit in the middle of the round room, reading the Book of Xilan, with their minds spinning. LOL. Effective camerawork.
Hence starts a period of serious study over Xilan plants. Fortunately Orchid does not know she has the power and how to use it. So they never tell her.
Yes those emotions – sadness from Orchid’s missing out on CH, fear of being caught, love for CH?
The moment Orchid touched MS’s emotional tree, it opened his gates of emotions. So this ep4 is probably the beginnings of his good feelings towards her even though he may not have realized it.

That feeling of fear he is experiencing from Orchid’s nightmare. It was something he hasn’t felt for a long long time. So she really opened up his ability to experience all kinds of emotions through her.
Did you see how his smoke appearance is like the wings of a big bird? Quite cool looking. and there were red-like cinders. Probably how he is associated to hell?? Somehow I can’t connect Moon realm and hell. Just because he wears black??

It is so silly that it is so long. Look how bored MS is as ShangQue unrolled it! lol. I guess the other emotion he is experiencing is frustration and annoyance? lol

MS: That means she is my biggest weakness now. Once the curse-caster starts the command with the Xilan Holy Seal, I can’t disobey. How cruel. Am I going to be held by this grass in the future?

Yes, I liked how he became so despondent, realising that he was under the thumb of the plant that he could so easily crush. So good! In this episode he threatened (Threat count!) twice that he’d kill her once he had gotten rid of the curse and she’d fixed the Book. He was so frustrated.
Their only hope is that she never finds out that he could be ordered to become her servant (LOL in Episode 12 it happened, he served her).
The other good joke is that she thinks he’s dumb for following her orders and for not knowing the history of the Great War. (MISCONCEPTION COUNT). It took her the longest time to realise how wrong she was.
Yes, he looked more like a bird than a bat when he appeared with all that smoke. I guess the lousy heavenly folks just wanted to call him the devil to differentiate him from them. The Moon realm liked darker colours but they were ordinary people. It was just the heavenly bunch choosing what to call DFQC. The Moon Tribe never called themselves anything.
It’s news to him that Fairy calls him “the ‘dead DFQC.”
Fairy is shocked that he does not even know the Battle with Demons. Fairy : “Haven’t you ever read books?” LOLOL He’d been living the life of the demon, he’d just been studying the Book of Xilan and now the books Fairy tells him about give false news I liked that (incredulous?) expression on his face.
She thinks Da Qiang looks prettier than DFQC. *snigger*
She reveals all her silly ideas on how disgusting DFQC is and what Dongfang Qingcang looks like. That he has lice and bad breath… ahhh but she does not know that she’s already kissed that disgusting demon twice (and never complained about his breath) LOLOL.
That breakfast she suggests food outside is better so he would want to turn himself in, then become a free person after imprisonment. She keeps trying to get him to go back to prison. But he ignores that.
MS says ironically : “Since you know the Moon Supreme so well, do you know what he likes to eat?” He teases her with a serious face throughout to get back at her for all her misconceptions. And then he continues to stare at her with that disgusted expression while he takes a bite of vegetable LOLOL.
The camerawork and the setting for the reading of the Xilan book is so beautiful. Now you mentioned the going round and round is also so a dizzying thing to read. It is sewn! And in ancient chinese characters but still someone had to have that sewn!
They finally figured that she doesn’t know how to use the curse or that she doesn’t even know she is from the Xilan clan. How did I miss it that MS knew she was from Xilan all along??
He is so confident he can solve the problems. Even the Xilan curse.

Hahaha…Orchid is totally oblivious of the power she has on him! And with his eye roll he really can confirm she knows nothing of how she activated the curse or her own origins.
MS: Remember, every words you say is very important to me. You can’t talk like that in the future.
Orchid: I’m just an ordinary grass, no one takes my words seriously. Since my master went travelling, no one cared about me.
Their quibbling over her waking up late and her laziness is really funny because now he really experienced her hunger. Wonder if he ever felt hunger like her or immortals do not eat?
Re-writing History and More misconceptions… fairy excitedly prepares pastries for a festival.
Fairy : “This festival is to celebrate the war between the two races and the victory of the immortal race. Shuiyuntian will celebrate the victory of the Battle, the festival of the devil’s execution on this day.”
He gets enraged, breaking the wooden frame on her table, because the fairies were celebrating lies. He was not executed, but still alive.
LOL she shows him how to pound glutinous rice to make pastires while he’d like to pound the fairies of Shuiyuntian for the lies about him. He exerted great fortitude in not scolding Fairy.
He holds out a hot glutinous rice ball for her and she draws DFQC’s face on it while laughing gleefully LOL DFQC was supposed to have green face, fangs, shows his teeth and claws. He gets upset again.
Then she takes the miniature Shuofeng sword and sticks into the rice ball. LOL his expression.
He shouts at her to stop and controls himself. Then corrects her version of history.
MS ” The Chidi Woman killed herself with the Shuofeng Sword.”
Fairy : “Isn’t it enough that the meaning and plot are almost the same?”
MS : “How can it be almost the same? Chidi Woman has never really defeated DFQC.”
Fairy : How do you know these trivial details?”
MS : “These are not trivial details.”
I just loved all their interactions. She was so deceived and so wrong regarding him, but he bore it all because of the curse. Then later he bore with it because he cared about her.
MS had read all the books Fairy had brought out. He asks about the torn portrait in the book. She draws her breath in a quick intake but says nothing.
MS : “Who is that?” (His rival LOL) “Why are you panicking?”
Fairy : “I’m not. …” She changes subject and goes off.
MS is puzzled. She was embarrassed and he did not understand that emotion.
MS finally realises that she has not fixed the Destiny Book that day.
MS : ” I’ve wasted the whole day with little flower spirit. Fixing the Destiny Book was postponed to tomorrow.”
Even without being aware of the Xilan Curse, Fairy played MS like a fool. Once she find out, he’d end up as her maid… which pretty much happens in Episode 12.
MS sends SQ to get the Heart Hiding Hairpin. They do not know that Jie Li has stolen it already.

“What DFQC likes to eat most is a chubby little fairy with thin skin and tender meat like you. The little fairy he ate were either 10,000 or 8,000. Boiled, roasted, fried, steamed, and eaten raw.”
Oh ok Chidi woman was mentioned in the book! But I’m sure she didn’t recognize her in the Destiny book vs MS who saw her before.
This is the episode he was going to tell her who he was but she sneezed! It’s like saying is his name is bad luck, that’s why she sneezed. Perfect timing! 😛
The series of misunderstanding of who DFQC is hilarious here. It’s his first time having someone speak of him in this manner so i would say ignorance is a bliss! Haha!
Ep 04 is full of misconceptions!
Misunderstanding
1. Calls him Dongfang Qiang and doesn’t think at all that it could be the DFQC she reads.
2. Says he is a “dead big devil DFQC”
3. DFQC has green face and fangs. His long hair drags the floor and his hair is full of lice. I heard that he did not brush his teeth and take a bath for thousands of years. It’s so disgusting to spit out bad breath.
(Which is also why she doesn’t think DFQC is DFQC since she kissed him twice!)
(I had to roll over with laughter here because she is obliviously talking bad about him right in front of him!! And she was sorry for saying these things because he was eating, not because she is talking bad about him!)
Suddenly he wants to take a bath LOL because Fairy had described DFQC as disgusting. She’s started to get to him already!
MISCONCEPTIONS AND NEW CONCEPTIONS
Fairy is looking out at the sky pensively, thinking to herself. “The Arbiter Hall has not been so lively for a long time. Although Da Qiang always loses his temper and is stupid. And he always talks about himself. But I don’t think he is bad.”
“Although his power is stronger than mine, he should be just like that. He probably did not make a big mistake.”
(We see Fairy once again trying to put a positive spin on things. She wants to believe the best of people.)
“It’s a pity that he as been in Haotian Tower for so long. Now he can live a day of freedom.”
(Fairy intended to let him have some freedom in her care. Her ultimate aim was to get him to turn himself in.)
That stabbing the glutinous rice ball scene is my favourite of this whole episode. ep4 would be the most fun episode of all with all the ironies and misconceptions and threats.
it was so fun watching MS being angry but not being able to do anything about it. Especially when we have seen him show off his super powers earlier.
This is also the first time I felt MS became more gentle because of her. He felt concern for her when she burned her fingers carrying the hot pot. But patience has its limits. His red eyes is the peak of his anger and frustration.
Yeah, the misconceptions in the conversation were just so deliciously good. All said to his face and he couldn’t do a thing about it. Yes, she felt bad for the wrong reason LOL.
Oh good one, I didn’t think of her sneezing as he said her name as a sign of bad luck. It is, because we say ‘Bless you!’ after someone sneezes.
Loved the Episodes in Arbiter Hall with the two of them given so much time together. It was inevitable that they’d end up a couple.
It could be that he was already softening. His Love Tree was defrosting afterall. Now he’s concerned that she fainted after trying to fix the Book. And so we have the series of swoony gestures when he has to take care of a plant.
Compare this to the time he nursed her back after she died. Both times swoony but this time, he had to do so many things over a long period of time, and fell for her at the same time.
We see that with CH’s backstory, his sentimental love etc, that both he and MS were actually out to serve Fairy in their own way. He used up a lot of energy to make the immortal pill for Fairy.
But CH although sincere was too slow, too cautious, too bland. Of course we all root for MS to get the girl!!
I fancy that Yun Zhong had been spying on CH and stopped him from giving the pill to Fairy. So sad that he disposed of it and Fairy never knew of his efforts.
You said that “She started to get to him already!” Totally!
And he definitely has gotten to her too.
He also felt cheated. It’s like the strongest has become weakest because he is at the mercy of who he deems the weakest.
Fixing the Destiny Book really requires a lot more power and I wonder why Orchid and Arbiter has that MS doesn’t have such that he can’t do it either. Is it a special spell. So even though MS is all so powerful, he doesn’t have the skill to fix a Destiny Book.
But he is fearless too, he isn’t afraid of going against the rules or even losing his soul. Interesting, Or does he not believe in it?
I guess that fixing the Destiny Book requires special training. Only the Arbiter and disciple were allowed to do it.
However, the rules were the rules of ‘Heaven’ which MS disregards, and partly he lost the feeling of fear… so he’s prepared to take risks.
But I wonder how far the warnings were true. Just like how far was the history given to Fairy true. Facts might have been added or hidden.
Between MS standing there collecting water and then lying back to wait for the bowl to fill up, and CH who made the pill, who looks more swoony?
Fairy thinks that Da Qiang has left when she can’t find him. Fairy thinks he’s left without saying goodbye. She’ll be a little sad.
He scares away a butterfly that is sentient LOL.
CH just arrives at Arbiter Hall to give the pill to Fairy but he’s called away by his brother.
Shangque: I’m afraid you can only look after her by yourself.
And MS did so because he didn’t think it would be a difficult thing but it is! It is swoony because he did all those inconvenient things. Waking up super early in the morning to collect dew, bringing her to a beautiful place with sunrise and had to sneak her in, though it is not a big deal for her.
SWOONY LINES COUNT
(Episode 3) (Because the Heart Curse has him injured when she’s wounded.)
MS crouches and looks hard at Fairy whom he claims he’d like to kill but can’t.
MS : “Not only will I not kill you, I also won’t allow anyone to hurt you. If anyone dares to touch you, I’ll skin them and make a human lantern out of them. From now on, you’re mine. Your life belongs to me. Your breath belongs to me. Your heartbeat belongs to me. Every drop of blood in your body belongs to me. Without my permission don’t leave my sight.”
(Episode 3) MS finds his way to Arbiter Hall to check on Fairy and says more swoony words with a serious face : “No matter where you are in the world, I will find you and make sure you’re safe.”
(Episode 3) When she warns him that he should not be caught by the heavenly soldiers, he says he dares to do anything regardless of heavenly soldiers but he would not hurt her. (She did not ask why in Haotian he was prepared to kill her but now he isn’t. She didn’t think it through at this stage that he had an ulterior motive, but only thought he was in love with her!)
(Episode 3) Fairy : “I hit my head, why are you moaning?”
She thinks he’s quite caring when he orders her not to hurt herself anymore. She smiles sweetly at him and persuades him to go to his room.
(Episode 4) (Because he finds he has to obey her due to the Heart Curse.)
MS : “Remember, every word you say is very important to me.
No matter how handsome CH is, MS wins hands down in swooniness. LOL.
All his expressions were so good. And I loved how he could not comprehend what was happening at times. Later when he’s thoughtful, he thinks he’s just being rational and not that he cares for Fairy.
OK we’ve come to the end of EPISODE 4.
I think between CH making the immortal pill and MS collecting dew, it would be the latter because the effort and inconvenience is way more. There is no use of spells or magic although a lot of time is needed for both of them. Plus collecting dew is such tedious process, so simple yet so time consuming. I would think these people have all the powers to make things easier for them.
Of course MS is thinking he will kill her, burn the green house, destroy Shuyuntian and break the bones of Lord Yunzhone to make liquor. hahaha!
Is ep04 the first time we see the OST? Finding you.
I liked that the first thing she did when waking up was to look for him. Well a perfect song to match of Orchid looking for MS thinking he has gone.
The irony is that she wanted him gone but he has grown on her and she actually missed his presence. Even though she say that it’s great that he is gone later on, did you see the look of worry on her face when she was looking for him?
I wondered if MS felt her anxiety while looking for him
Yeap end of ep04!! It’s my favourite episode so far. So much laughs for us audiences!
It was a great run down of all that happened, new thoughts. And I got to type down the script and the details I have missed while watching.
Yes, I noticed that she had mixed feelings about not finding MS. That’s a good point, maybe he sort of felt her anxiety when she was looking for him. He came back soon.
I wondered if he had to magically bring lots of dew together to make a drop. It was really a test of patience. I think he just looked so good standing there or sitting around waiting, doing nothing else LOL. Beats poor CH every time.
I had to pause a lot to transcribe too. We chose some of the same parts to transcribe LOL. I was also trying to do a count… not that I’m counting the number but I’m listing which episode we find those scenes.

For Episode 5, I did a…CARE / CONSIDERATION COUNT
MS’s shift into caring for Fairy Orchid more for her own sake than for his own, began somewhere in Episodes 5-6 onwards. He was not aware of the shift however. In the process of trying to get her magical powers restored 100%, MS not only saved her, but helped her in her path to happiness.
(Ep 5) Fairy thinks MS has left Arbiter Hall to turn himself in, however he returns after several hours of collecting morning dew, in time to hear Fairy’s conversation with the flowers. From this he gathers:
1) She was sincerely worried about him getting caught as an escaped prisoner and of herself being implicated.
2) She felt that harbouring a sinful immortal would be unforgiveable in her Master’s eyes (hence the face slapping of MS by Arbiter at the end LOL)
3) He starts being concerned about how she feels. MS thinks : “Why should I care about the likes and dislikes of small grass/little plant?” But the fact is, that it occurs to him to care.
4) Fairy is lonely when the plants go to sleep.
5) She thinks of him being lonely in Haotian Tower, extrapolating from her experiences without Arbiter, and feels compassion for him, as she wonders how many years he would have to serve. He can feel her feelings.
6) She does not think of him as a bad person and regrets that he is gone without even a goodbye.
Fairy : “Even if we’re not friends, he should at least say goodbye.” (We recall that in Episode 36 he did say a silent goodbye to her, in that intense kiss.)
(Ep 5) – After several days, MS still had not gotten Fairy to fix the Destiny Book. He notices that the flowers in her garden contract ie something is wrong. He feels the burning pain she feels and heals her in time. If MS had not been present, it was likely that she would have died.
She is so happy he is gone, but she also empathised with, or for(?) him. Even though loneliness wasn’t something he bothered about, she felt for him what he didn’t or couldn’t.
Plus she was upset he didn’t even have manners to say goodbye. She really knows how to comfort herself in a way. When things don’t go the way she wants to she seems to be able to talk her way out?
“But I think he is not bad.”
For someone whom everyone is fearful of is this the first time someone said something nice about him?
EPISODE 5 and 6 REWATCH (6th September 2022)
At this stage, she asks MS why he’s so good to her, but he won’t tell her, that he just wants her to fix the Destiny Book, after which he told SQ that he would kill her.
She won’t know about the Heart Curse til later, and she only finds out that if she gets killed, he will also die. She never was told that she could make him her servant.
However, even without knowing, we see MS being exactly that towards her, although a pretty bossy servant LOL.
Yeah so he saved her the second time!
How did he get so absorbed tending to her and getting her to be better?

Plus he lifted her hand to hold the bowl.
She is surely touched! Because she asked, “why are you so nice to me?”
Then he has to heat it up because it was too cold, cool it because it was too hot. Did you see her pleased smile at the end?
She really frustrates him but he has to hold back because of her. It’s like she is training him to be nicer.
@grace I really liked that he heard that conversation where she was running through all her thoughts. Since he can feel what she feels, he must have felt her sincere empathy, and her desire to think well of him.
He knew she thought well of others too and that she did not discriminate. Although she thought he was a sinful immortal, she did not treat him differently.
I believe with Fairy, MS experiences many firsts. She was the first to not be afraid of him, to threaten him, to be at ease in his presence and later he says that only she loved him.
Yeah, I liked that she was very aware of his attentions. She was pleased, but at the same time she felt ‘bad’ because she was still CH’s fangirl.
If not for the Heart Curse, MS would never have succumbed to being trained by a lowly fairy!
@GB true, he is experienced all her change of emotions with regards to him being away. Yeah, she really is a refreshing presence in his life, just as he is in hers since she has been so lonely. Other than her Master who took care of her so well but is not around, he is probably the next person who cared for her.
The discussion between CH and YZ
1)The belief that Tai Sui is a legend – this is interesting. The 2 strongest warriors, MS and CH both say that Tai Sui is a legend. I believe that CH is young enough not to have encountered more stories of Tai Sui, but I wonder why even MS does not believe in him.
It is probably only when he encounters evil spirits that he starts to think differently.
So perhaps the Xilan Clan sealed Tai Sui even before MS’s time.
2) YZ confronts CH and more or less accuses him of lying about sticking to his duty to marry the missing Xishan Fairy. CH gives up on fairy out of ‘loyalty’. It might be because his mother was considered disloyal, that CH falls in so easily with his duty.
It must have been a shock for YZ later when CH rebelled.

Interesting how Lord Yunzhong is sure of Xilan clan and how Fairy is still alive because Taisui is not released, even though he hasn’t seen Taisui.

Orchid is so cute when she drinks the dew. She is so delighted, she savoured it and enjoyed it thoroughly. I mean his efforts are not wasted and she is full of gratitude too. It is a nice response to someone who went through a lot of effort to do something for you.
Yes, that’s true too. Aside from the Arbiter, no one spent so much time with her.
She had met CH and they had been friends for a while. She had ministered to him when he was injured. He’d been a companion in the forest while he recovered. His face was scratched. Much later when he was healed, then he left. But this was wiped from Fairy’s memory.
So as far as Fairy knows, it’s only MS who’s her companion after Arbiter, and taking care of her, like Arbiter used to do.
Taisui as legend
I didn’t catch this when I first watched. Even Lord YZ hasn’t seen Taisui. Remember CH asked him why he believes it even though he hasn’t seen it.
MS did ask Taisui who he is when he first saw him. It’s like no one has seen but only heard.
This Taisui really is so hard to kill. So if MS really killed him then completely then wow…he really did what even the Xilan Clan could not do.

Orchid’s innocence, sincerity and kindness is what makes these guys fall for her so much. Poor CH taught to be tough from the beginning and not allowed to show his weakness.
I realised Orchid, while not strong compared to the 2 guys, her strength is not in the physical strength but the will or something else, I can’t put a finger to it now.

On both sides, that MS went all the way there to get it for her and that she was worried for him.
It’s funny how MS doesn’t get it that his doing all that is misleading.
MS : “You can like anyone but you belong to me.”
Orchid “You can’t be bewitched by his sweet words. “
MS was watching Fairy so closely while she drank, I’d have choked if someone kept staring at me like that. But yes, it was nice for him to see that she appreciated his effort. I’d never have the patience to do that… and we are to believe that he did it for her every morning.
Next he takes the initiative to get her Eternal Fire.
17:04 LOL This makes Fairy think that he loves her sooooo much. I just love this misunderstanding. She tries her best to disabuse him of liking her.
I note that Fairy is affected by this… she’s gotten attached to him and to the sense of his liking her. She thinks to herself: “No, No, Orchid you can’t be bewitched by his sweet words.”
And so it begins with both of them in denial that they are affecting each other.
Yes, the strength of Fairy – one of the greatest ironies (I have it down somewhere in my notes) is that she and everyone think that she’s weak and quite useless. But in Ep 6 we’ll see that she does not back down on what is her right and her due in the Immortal Exam. She has iron resolve when it comes to saving others, in spite of her fear. MS noticed that she might be called a coward but was the bravest woman he’d ever seen.
Back to the irony, the truth is that she’s about the strongest goddess there is, and what she can do, no one else can. Her strength or power and even her ‘weapon’ is the ability to love everyone and so choose the highest good over other good choices. In the end she was able to choose what MS couldn’t, ie to sacrifice her own 1 love, for her love for all.
EP 5 – Early next morning, (actually he risks another Xilan Curse because she might have ordered him to do something instead of waking her, but fortunately she didn’t) he drags her out of bed to bring her screaming, as they fly upward to the Yunzhong Water Pavilion, the highest place in Fairy Realm and where they can get the sunrise.
I’m also doing a Count of his Teases and this was one of them. He didn’t explain anything like the fact they were invisible and let her go on panicking. Poor Fairy.
MS and Fairy at the YZ Water Pavilion – I was thinking that MS has the ability to create round bubble shields at will. He does it here so that no one can see or hear them. (Later in the water and in the rescue at Shuiyuntian too.)
Fairy just refuses to be convinced that MS is really all that powerful, and he just leaves her to her disbelief since whatever he tells her, she considers bragging.
@GB all the misunderstanding becomes like self-fulfilling prophesy. It’s funny for us audience as well. I find this alluding to a contract marriage. Something not real becoming real. But I love how this is done so seamlessly and so thoroughly into the entire story.
Yes the irony executed so powerfully in like how the weak is strong and the strong is weak idea. When tied in a story like this, it is so satisfying.

When MS says it’s coming, she looks the wrong way for guards but he turns her head to see the sunrise.

He tells her that she gets up at noon ever day and never sees the sunrise but she thinks the sunset is the same LOL. She’s mistaken again, just like the fake news. She’s also mistaken that her weakness is due only to the damage to her immortal root. Actually it’s because her powers were sealed. In order to hide that she was the Goddess of Xishan, she couldn’t show any strength in case she revealed the Xilan power, but she still carried that power with her. Unfortunately, the wrong people saw her power in action.
MYSTERY? So the story of Arbiter drowning her root in wine, might have been true, as a means to keep her thinking she was weak. Or it was done deliberately rather than out of carelessness. It seems strange that the Arbiter should be so irresponsible. However the other part of the story where Arbiter wanted to throw her away, might have been false.
@GB I thought MS didn’t quite brag, he said it more like a matter-of-fact. And interestingly, Orchid didn’t go “wow…” in admiration but that she focused on other things like the beautiful scenery, how she has never been up there.
I think to her she always felt like everybody else is better than her, so she couldn’t compare who is better than who. Plus she has been so cut off from the rest, she probably hasn’t seen really powerful power.

He made flower soup for her! Even though he did that so he doesn’t have to experience her being so sad about missing her master. She asked him did you make the soup to make me happy. Yeap she is going to take it that he is doing something sweet to her.
Oh and all the flowers bloom again!! Such a lovely indicator of her joys and sorrows or pain. Wouldn’t have the flowers around her die when she was heart broken when he rejected her long later?
This time the flower soup didn’t taste nice. LOL he can’t cook!
Afterwards when we get to Ep 6, I have a list of IRONIES. Delicious ironies LOL with these 2 characters. That’s why I got so sucked into this show.
I keep noticing that there are different ways of coming and going. They actually have the ability to just ‘poof!’ and disappear and reappear somewhere else, and yet they walk, they fly, and in this case they take a long time to go up through clouds.

Yes, this was a great funny and romantic moment. He was so uncommunicative about what it was all about and she was so panicky. But when she realised what he was doing, she was touched and so happy.
FEELING COUNT (Ep 5)
MS shares her joy. Fairy tugs on MS’s arm in excitement to see the Cloud Whale. MS looks at her and his expression softens to see her delight. She catches his response in a slight smile (Yes I saw that smile for the SMILE COUNT) but he quickly puts on his serious face because it would not do to look weak.
Fairy’s joy makes the flowers in the bushes bloom all at once.
Yes, I think because she kept thanking him sincerely and was so happy with what he did for her, that his Love Tree began to thaw faster.
If you consider that making her stronger is part of saving her, then yes, the whole process of taking care of Fairy was one big ‘SAVE’ effort on MS’s part. We can count it as the 2nd time.
@GB I also think those stories Orchid believed about herself were not completely true, but to help keep the secret of herself that she doesn’t know either. She was been totally lied to!
One thing I also wonder…other than the time MS said he no longer loves her to save her from being consumed by Chidi Woman’s spirit, was there other times he lied to her?

(Ep 5) On the morning dew..

When the drink is too cold MS warms it up and then cools it down for her LOL and bears all her nonsense about adding honey to it. He ends up holding the bowl, waiting for. He’s already become her servant by Episode4-5.
(Ep 5) To keep her warm..
MS goes to the magma of Cangyan Sea to bring back Eternal Fire for Fairy’s room. She protests that it’s too reckless of him and it was okay for her to feel cold.
MS : “For me it’s so easy.”
Fairy thinks : “He loves me so much.”
MS : “Why are you staring at me.”
Fairy reiterates that she likes someone else, so that MS would not get broken hearted LOL. But she’s already gotten attached to him as well and says to herself: “No, No, Orchid you can’t be bewitched by his sweet words.”
(Ep 5) To get the right kind of sunlight.
MS calculates where to bring Fairy. Early next morning, (actually he risks another Xilan Curse because she might have ordered him to do something instead of waking her, but fortunately she didn’t) he drags her out of bed to bring her screaming, as they fly upward to the Yunzhong Water Pavilion.
(Ep 5) To save her from burning up from yang energy and to comfort her.
MS sees the flowers contracting.
He saves Fairy from overheating sighs : “You won’t die if I’m here.” (Well… as long as she does not kill herself like later.) “Even if you die, it’s because of your own stupidity. I’ve expelled all the yang fire from your body.”
(Ep 5) She starts crying when she misses her master’s care.
MS : “Stop thinking so much. If you feel sad, I feel sad too.” He covers her indifferently with a blanket and tells her to rest.
He is disturbed by her sadness, so he cooks flower soup for her (amidst much smoke!).
MS : “This is the flower soup I cooked for you. … Drink it. don’t be sad and miss your master after drinking it.”
Fairy : “Did you cook it to make me happy?”
MS : “Em/Yes.”
Although it tastes terrible, she’s happy to have it. The flowers in her greenhouse bloom beautifully again.
(Ep 6) Fairy wants MS to pay her less attention, saying she’s not special. MS says the most dreamy words but with such a serious look: “To me, no one in the three realms is as unique as you are.”
Yes, all these words could have been spoken by a true lover to his beloved. He didn’t know it at that time, but what he said was becoming true at the emotional level as well as on the pragmatic level.

From Episode 5 onwards, (which is a bit slow but still has swoony moments) we see the shift in understanding. MS discovers that the secret to healing Fairy is not just to take care of her body, but also of her heart.
Inadvertently, and without ever considering it to be a romantic gesture, MS has hit on the right path to Fairy’s heart. So now we come to the episodes where he’s out to make her the happiest woman alive LOL.
MS to himself : “How can I make her happy?” (What we hope our husbands/bfs think of from time to time!!!)
EP 6 THE EPISODE OF IRONY
MS wants to know what makes Fairy happy. He thinks he wants her strong enough to fix the Destiny Book but he is unaware that he has started caring for her already.
Summary Recap of the Episode 6 Ironies
– She wants him to turn himself in and he won’t so she negotiates by promising to fix the Book, but surprisingly he says no to that. After he had a scare when she got sick he becomes more considerate.
This time the misconception he is under is maybe only 90% a misconception 10% of that true concern, because he’s beginning to care about her well being.
– Although he thinks she’s foolish to want to pass the exam so as to serve tea to immortals, he helps her without her knowing. (to be continued)
EP 6 THE EPISODE OF IRONY continued
– She thinks he does not read and says : “You don’t even know the Battle with the Moon Tribe, let alone the prestige of our Lord CH in the three realms.”
MS : “He’s just the best of a bad bunch.” (He allows that much for CH. In the end, they had to work together to bring back Fairy.)
But the truth is that no one knows the Battle more than MS and he is far more powerful than CH.
– Fairy continues to rub salt in. “He (CH) was only hundreds of years old during the Battle with the Moon Tribe. If he had been born earlier, DFQC would be a nobody. He’s no match for him.”
MS says a mere boy should not be compared to MS. Fairy thinks DFQC is dead and there’s no way to prove who’d win between the two of them. But he’s alive and taking care of her and by the end of the series it’s obvious that DFQC would always have beaten CH.
– MS catches on with her fangirling of CH : “He’s also your dream lover?… So he’s the one you like?” She considers herself a lowly spirit and does not dare to expect any regard from CH, but in effect she’s a powerful goddess, whom CH had searched for and who was destined to marry him.
– Once again Fairy wants to dissuade MS from paying her attention.
F : “I think you’ve been locked up for too long. It made you silly. Anyway Daqiang, you have to know you can’t waste your time on me. I can’t respond to your kindness.”
MS : “I don’t need your response.”
She tells him to consider all the beauties of the realm. She was not special.
His priceless look of incomprehension LOL.
MS : “So what?”

Fairy says she wants to see the real CH and not one who is disguised as him.
MS : “That’s easy. I’ll tie him up to keep you company.” LOLOL.
FEELING Count – Frustration LOL.
I thought Fairy meant that Moon Tribe was split apart, which it was. The other 2 kings kept fighting Yun Feng to gain power.
Poor MS, he did everything that she said she wanted, even changing to look like CH, but it made her annoyed instead of happy.
My thoughts on this repeatedly used ploy of disguise or illusion.
The Question of Disguises/Illusions
MS’s attempt to make Fairy happy by changing his appearance to look like Chang Heng backfires. But he did not do it to deceive or tease her, but because he thought she’d be happier seeing a CH lookalike.
MS makes the same mistake about the fake Arbiter Hall later. He was still in the early stages of reconnecting to his emotional root and didn’t realise that a person’s love and attachment was not just to the outward appearance. Just looking like CH didn’t make hanging around with him the same as being with CH. Being in a lookalike Arbiter Hall was not the same as being home. (A Twitter post mentions how he deliberately was not wearing the Jade Ring, in order to feel her happiness at being in the fake Arbiter Hall. But he only felt her disappointment.)
The Objectives Behind the Disguise
– MS uses false images to help Fairy to regain health and happiness.
– CH uses disguise to get away from his brother, to break rules, to gain freedom. It was mostly for his own personal reasons ie he wanted to be with Fairy in Yun Meng.
– RH uses false images to hide his evil deeds. He had to wear a mask all the time as Haishi Lord. Not only did he create a false Arbiter Hall to trick Fairy, he put on a false front before Chidi when she resurrected. He created a false image of the bamboo wood. He allowed Die Yi to be killed. He gave up all honour for what he thought was an honourable intention, but it was only for his greed.
– In Yun Meng MS and gang disguised themselves as mortals to fit in and not mess up CH’s and Chidi’s tribulation experience.
– In MS’s dream where he was married to Fairy, he tricked himself into believing that it was true, to avoid the pain of loss (he was in denial), but he could be reasoned with to leave the illusion behind.
In the end MS’s reasons for disguise and illusion were not based on crass selfishness, and while might have been ill-advised, were more justified.
These episodes are like the lovey dovey scenes we wish to see in the later part, isn’t it. But we see it so soon as part of the irony of their story.

Orchid tries to tell him there are many others who are prettier, cuter, and gentler than her. So when he sees more of them, he won’t think she is special. (Obviously he will be the most special to him eventually!)
I love his response!! “So what? For me, no one in the three realms is as unique as you are.” But what he really means is there is no one else whom he is stuck with because of the heart curse. He has no choice! Look at his angry stare at her when he says that. He wants to be free from the curse but it sounds like he is deeply in love with her!
Even when she declares loud and clear that she likes CH and only wants him with her, he is not affected.

It just occurred to me that both MS and Lord Li Yuan (Danyin’s dad) were trying to dissuade their charges from going for the exam.
MS feared for Fairy’s safety. Li Yuan felt it was beneath Danyin’s status to take the exam to enter service. Also, he didn’t want Danyin to come between CH and the bethrothed goddess.
Danyin is a pretty spoilt brat, she just does what she wants and she bullies Fairy. She’s also immature, thinking that just hanging around CH will make him fall in love with her.
I was trying to think about the role of Danyin, and actually I’m not sure that she was essential for the plot. She was not well utilised although she was also another round character that got developed along the way.
On disguise, that’s a really good list @GB! This reminds me how we have to look at the intensions behind the disguises and a lot of it also has to do with coping with what one can’t have.

I’m just so entertained by the fact that he says the most swoon-worthy, romantic lines but always with that frown or serious face, with a degree of distaste. Yet it was so romantic LOL. Must be because of the long looks he gave her.
I also wondered how important is Danyin’s role though she is like Orchid’s competitor. Someone who will be jealous because CH likes someone else, and someone who will never get the guy. She will have the classic annoying personality, but I liked that she grew and changed along the way.

He goes to right injustice for Orchid. He knew she is scared of Orchid and says he will kill Danyin for her. I mean his method isn’t right but his intentions is still kinda swoony in that he wanted to get rid of all the things that aren’t good for Orchid.
And so he says “As long as you are happy, I can do whatever you want.” Wow..he is really like that for her!

I’m not sure about the karma thing. In the first place, I’m not sure if it means that karma is the good one does comes back to one, and same for the evil one does. It could be that Fairy took over CH’s ‘fate’ to die.
CH’s Flashback to Fairy with CH walking in the forest 500 years earlire.
Fairy to CH : “How beautiful. It would be great if I could pick one of them as a lantern at night.”
CH : “It’s not difficult.”
Fairy : “How is it not difficult? Stars are far away from here. It’s extremely hard to get them.”
CH : “There’s a spirit stone in the Northernmost Ocean called the Magical Firefly Stone. There are fireflies in the stone. They shine at night. They’ll shine like the stars in the sky.”
Fairy says it too far away and cold there, so she can’t go there to get the stone.

37:30 SQ manages to scare the beast off for a while. But I feel that SQ was really not doing much to defend the fairies.
I like that when Ying Zhao attacks Danyin’s group, Fairy and Danyin work together against YZ. This is the start of the change in their relationship. Danyin gains respect for Fairy, and they could have been friends but in the end it was Danyin’s twin sister who became Fairy’s friend.

@GB It is that saying all those swoony things with a grouchy face that makes this scene so endearing. I guess why stories like contractual marriage/dating is so popular and doesn’t go out of fashion. We do love watching that cold character get melted by the warmth of the other party and falling in love when they adamantly say they wouldn’t.
I have to say the eye make up, beautifully dark slanted eyebrows and the look that MS exudes is attractive, especially when he is serious.

But they didn’t think it would get that bad either, though I would think the covering of the “CCTV” would be cause of concern.

There is a similar thread throughout Orchid’s life and character, she is always outward looking. She looks out for others and is less self-centered than most. In that way, she sets an example for many of us not to always look inward but outward. Which is why she can always turn the meanest people who are against her to eventually change their heart. And that has the largest impact on the emotionless MS.

Yes, I have to admit that the reason this rewatch is so rewarding is because I’m staring a lot at Dylan’s DFQC face. Love the makeup. When he’s his usual self in modern dress etc, it just does not have the same impact.
I wondered why SQ only appeared that one time to kick the monster away. Where was he when the fairies were stuck in the cave? If I had been DFQC, I’d have scolded him for not following orders. Even later on, he is not much around when DFQC is dealing with all kinds of issues. In Yun Meng he only turned up when DFQC was already injured.
Actually, as we said in the other thread, she never did lose her memory. She chose to act that way, because she told Xuanwu that she’d take care of all people and forego personal feelings for just 1 person. She was aware all the time, but pretended to not recognise DFQC.
CH did nothing to help her memory. What happened was that she needed him to agree to the marriage and her tackling of Tai Sui on her own. I’m not sure why as Xi Yun, she couldn’t just get him to do what she was destined to, … but maybe because she was going to die, she wanted CH to know that she did remember him. She may have wanted his collaboration as a friend of old and not only as the God of War. He was upset that she was just going to do her ‘job’ and die and didn’t consider his feelings. I guess that’s why she may have wanted to be able to apologise first.
So she told him by quoting her previous words, that she was still Fairy inside Xi Yun. Don’t really know what the plan was… it seemed that the marriage to unite Shuiyuntian with Xilan would unlock more power for CH to deal with Tai Sui. Maybe he was supposed to help her contain Tai Sui and she was going to detonate her primordial spirit to kill Tai Sui and herself at the same time.
It seems that the only way to kill Tai Sui was self-sacrifice/suicide. Without a body of his own, he visited/dwelt in anyone’s mind but more in the Soul Shattering Abyss. That’s were DFQC went to meet him.
I have to agree with Avenue X who said that it was strange she never let the mask slip even once before she revealed to CH that she remembered everything from before. It might have been a director’s choice to keep us thinking she really forgot. It would have been more heart-wrenching to have seen her struggling to keep her identity from MS through tears or whatever. I guess as Xi Yun, she was super strong, emotionally, unlike Fairy who showed all her emotions.

I really like the message of this Show. Good stuff to emulate in our normal non-dramatic lives.
I felt that once he started getting a couple of feelings back and recognising them, the rest would flow in naturally. I know I won’t be able to catch all the times that he may have gained the feeling or the awareness of what he was feeling. But I do like Show’s rendition of how he wanted to feel Fairy’s joy, whenever he removed the ring. He’d never be able to get ‘hatred’ from Fairy though.

Just watching a little bit of ep 3. Impressive CGI. @GB yes I love those first couple of scenes when DF CQ is flexing his muscles. They really tried to introduce DFCQ very scary. A giant DFCQ, appeared in front of the moon. Now I realised his head piece is like a pair of horn, devil horns. So many swoony lines!!! @Grace, glad that you wrote them down.
Remember in one of those last episodes, DF CQ said Orchid always finds the excuses to forgive him. I can see how it – when he crossed the lines and being rude, she made up an excuse thinking DF CQ likes her too much.
The best boy friend
The best boy friend material is that he feels how you feel. You get hurt he get hurts. You die he dies. In that way he truly understands you and protects you. DF CQ truly “understands” Orchid and really works hard to keep him happy.
Now looking at Arbiter Hall again. It would be an ideal wedding venue. Got a long path to walk into the place, then the back garden is so full of beautiful flowers. Then Master’s look into a sea of cloud. It really gives that infinity pool feel in one of those beautiful Santorini resorts.
