Bitch Talk: What Are We Watching in Oct 2022?

My new October selections are all romcoms. That’s okay though because I already have a colossal headache from the one makjang show (“Little Women”) I’m watching till the middle of this month.

1. Cheer Up

It’s a college campus romance involving cheerleaders. That’s all you need to know.

I should be turned off by premise but remember the 2nd male lead in “My Roommate is a Gumiho”? He’s the male lead here and that’s the reason I’ll give this romcom a try.

Cast: Bae InHyuk (“My Roommate is a Gumiho”) and Han JiHyun (never watched her before but she was in “Penthouse”)
Episodes: 16
Start Date: Mon, Oct 3
Airs on Mondays and Tuesays
Where to Watch it: Viki?
Network: SBS

2. Love Is for Suckers

Synopsis from wiki:

The series is about the romance between 20-year-old best friends in their 30s, who unexpectedly meet in a reality dating show as its production director and cast member, and begin experiencing romantic feelings for each other.

Pros:

1. I like best-friends-turn-to-lovers romcoms.

2. It’ll be “edutainment” to watch a drama on reality show programs. I look forward to learning about the behind-the-scenes challenges of producing this kind of entertainment, just like I did when I watched “Today’s Webtoon.”

3. It’s from ENA. ENA also did “Good Job.”

Cons:

1. Siwon. No, I don’t hate him for the dog scandal. I dislike him because he tends to overact and give a hammy performance.

Also, if I don’t watch him now, I fear that I’ll miss his “Shelf Life.” The truth is I used to like his chiseled features when he was young. As he ages, however, he begins to remind me of a paunchy and pudgy uncle. I’ll give his show a try now before it’s all too late.

2. 16 episodes!! Seriously? The writer has enough content for 16 episodes. Doesn’t the couple already know each other though? Couldn’t they have condensed this?

3. Flashbacks.

Cast: Siwon and Lee DaHee
Episodes: 16
Start Date: Wed, Oct 5
Airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays
Where to Watch it: Viki
Network: ENA

3. Bad Prosecutor

This drama is nonstarter for me, but I can open a thread for you, @nrllee, if you want to discuss it. It stars D.O. (aka Do Kyungsoo).

Synopsis from soompi:

“Bad Prosecutor” is a new drama about an ill-mannered prosecutor with delinquent tendencies who believes in fighting for justice by any means necessary. EXO’s D.O. will star as Jin Jung, the titular “bad prosecutor” who is determined to take down those that use wealth and power to live above the law.

Source: soompi/ bad prosecutor

Cast: Do Kyungsoo and Lee SeHee
Episodes: 12
Start Date: Wed, Oct 5
Airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays
Where to Watch it: Netflix
Network: KBS2

4. One Hundred Won Butler

This seems to be a fluffier version of the Hong sisters’ “Hotel Del Luna.” In HDL, IU owns a hotel catering to the dead and Yeo Jingoo is her assistant manager, forced to work for her to pay his father’s debt. In this drama, Hyeri runs a funeral parlor and hires a Butler who does chores for a pittance.

Synopsis from soompi.

“Ildangbaek Butler” (literal title) tells the story of Butler Kim, who runs errands that begin at a cost of 100 won (approximately 10 cents) per job, and funeral director Baek Dong Joo, who grants the wishes of the dead, as they operate an errand-running business called Ildangbaek (meaning one person doing the work of 100, and in this specific case, also referring to the fact that one errand costs 100 won).

Hyeri will take on the role of Baek Dong Joo, who possesses a strange ability to communicate with the deceased. Unless the deceased’s last wish is fulfilled, she has to spend the whole day with no luck. Lee Jun Young will play Butler Kim, the only employee and ace at the daily errands service Ildangbaek. He gets entangled with the strange Baek Dong Joo and starts working together on a project that transcends life and death.

Source: soompi.com/100 won butler

Cast: Hyeri (“My Roommate is a Gumiho”) and Lee JunYoung (never heard)
Episodes: 16
Start Date: Wed, Oct 19
Airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays
Where to Watch it: Viki? Anything but Disney+
Network: MBC

5. 20th Century Girl

Synopsis from wiki

In 1999 – a year before the end of the 20th century, 17-year-old Na Bo-ra (Kim Yoo-jung) is asked by her friend Yeon-du who goes U.S. for a heart surgery, to collect information about Baek Hyun-jin (Park JungWoo). Initially, Bo-ra gets close to Hyun-jin’s best friend, Poong Un-ho (Byeon WooSeok) in order to keep an eye on Hyun-jin. But then she finds her first love: a sweet, pure but heartbreaking relationship.

Years later in the 21st century, news about her first love revives her teenage romance that she once thought had forgotten.

Warning: are you still miffed about the ending of that kdrama “25:21”? This movie seems to have the same concept. Also, this seems to be a love triangle so be careful about rooting for the “wrong” couple. I may/may not take a peek at the ending first before deciding whether to watch the whole show. I’m not in the mood for sucky/unhappy endings.

Cast: Kim Yoo Jung (“Lovers of the Red Sky”), Byeon WooSeok (the tall guy in “Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency”) and Park Jung Woo (never heard of him)
Episodes: one. It’s a movie.
Show Date: Fri, Oct 21
Where to Watch it: Netflix

6. Chinese dramas??

I still have to finish “Love Between Fairy and Devil.”

  1. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Thanks @pkml3
I’ve been in two minds about starting new series. I envision that I may drop them or leave them hanging.

For a different vibe the following brushed lightly my attention.
Yonder to watch an older couple, in a futuristic fantasy. I’ve not watched Shin Ha Kyun in ages. I don’t mind Han Ji Min. At a succinct 6 episodes, it sounds watchable.

Of interest: “It will portray a world where one can live forever without death, and will question the meaning of eternal life, death, memory and oblivion, and happiness and misery.” – MDL –

Glitch for the Sci-Fi/Mystery element. It seems to have at its head 2 young female leads for a change. UFOs, and extraterrestrial aliens have always been a pull factor for this X-Files fan. It has only 10 episodes… another pull factor.

The ones that @pkml3 has chosen which I thought to consider are Cheer Up and maybe Love Is for Suckers.

    = = =

I mentioned in the Sept thread that I’ll probably continue the cdrama A Romance of the Little Forest, try another cdrama, A Rational Life, and we are doing a Liar Game Rewatch starting 8 Oct!!!

  2. Thank you, @packmule3. I’ve restarted LBFD.

Love is for suckers. I like both leads. First time I’ve heard about a dog scandal.😬
100 Won Butler sounds all right.

I want to start the Taiwanese drama Lost Romance, which is a fantasy rom com about an editor of romance novels. Sounds like fun.

  3. @packmule3. I am not sure I will watch Bad Prosecutor. Even if it is KyungSoo. I watched some of the trailers and it’s a bit over the top for me. It looks like Lawless Lawyer and I wasn’t terribly keen on that. So don’t bother to open a thread.

  4. Okay, @nrllee.

    Why are you still up?

Me, I’m waiting for “Little Women” to drop. It’s a dreary day today and maybe the stress from LW will give me an adrenaline rush. lol.

  5. For October, my must watch drama is mini C drama A Familiar Stranger. It’s being subbed at Viki. You can also watch it with quality subs at Huace TV Official You Tube channel, although it takes some time for the subs to appear there in YT after the eps are posted because they have a deal with Viki to use their subs. It’s really interesting romantic mystery drama with a touch of magic/supernatural. In order to save her sister, a young painter is forced to “switch faces” with the Prime Minister’s daughter and marry the general in her place. Turns out the general and the painter have actually met before 3 years ago when he saved her, and she’s never forgotten him. Of course, he doesn’t know it’s her because she’s got a different face. The magic/supernatural part of the drama is the “face switching.” It’s a cool take on the “body swap” trope because only the faces are switched, everything else is the same body and soul, etc. Anyway, it is really interesting drama with nice script and the acting is good too. Drama is fast paced since it’s mini drama of only 18 episodes(approx 12-15 minutes per ep). They are combining the eps at Viki, so I think will be 9 eps total at Viki.

Other October dramas I want to check out:

    Cheer Up- sounds cute
20th Century Girl film- has my girl Kim Yoo Jung

Voice In The Rain- Thai romantic drama coming to Viki Oct. 13, 2022. Story about a fashion designer and an celebrity who find out they can hear each other’s thoughts when it rains.

Perfect Crime- Japanese drama coming to Viki on Oct. 6, 2022. I like the ML actor so I want to check it out.

Might check out One Hundered Won Butler and Glitch depending on reviews from viewers.

Not really interested in Love Is For Suckers because I don’t like ML acting. He always does the same thing no matter the role. I do like FL actress but not enough to put up with Choi Si Won.

Otherwise, I’m continuing my watch of Love In Contract and catching up on older dramas Love Like the Galaxy and Love Between Fairy and Devil.

  6. I’m currently watching – with differing degrees of regularity –
    ‘Love in Contract’;
    ‘Side-story of Fox Volant’;
‘A Romance of the Little Forest’ – enjoying Esther Yu’s whimsical role in this!
    ‘Good Job’
Just finished ‘My Girlfriend is an Alien’ Season 1 (!)… moving on to Season 2. It’s just what I need at the moment. Very silly but watchable.

When in the right frame of mind, I also plan to re-watch the final key episodes of ‘Love of the Galaxy’ to complete that BoD conversation.

  7. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hello there @Kate!! We’ve missed you. I trust all is well with you and your family.

Did you finish Love Between Fairy and Devil?

  8. Hi @GB! Thank you. Yes, I’m doing ok as are the rest of the family. We are in the midst now of all the usual legal stuff and dealing with my Mum’s home etc etc

Yes, I did finish LBD. I enjoyed it to the end – other than the rather brief wrap up of the main story line.

  9. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Kate, ah yes, I recall that you were one of the first to comment on the abrupt conclusion of the last episode. Well, we’re still indulging in the rewatch. We’ve got 2 episodes to watch today, and the last 6 by the end of next week (I believe). It’s been an enjoyable ride through and through. 😁

  10. @Grace @GB – I do love the Rational Life! I used to resist Noona romance but slowly open to watching it after realising a few people I knew in real life are married and they were noona romance. Where are you up to @GB? So that I don’t spoil the story with my comments.

  11. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Viva, I’m going very fast with Rational Life, probably speeding into Episodes 9 onwards.

  12. @GB – do share your thoughts when you are ready! I think this show has raised a few good questions. What is the ideal companion for women these days? What is just impulsive passion? What is true love?

I found the parents of both ML and FL are well acted.

  13. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Actually for this RL show, I’m not taking the time and effort to make notes, am FFDing a lot. I know it discusses the traditional roles of women (and men) and dares to question them.

The mother of FL is amazing. So much gravitas in the way it was acted.

  14. I ffding a lot for the second and third leads, but I watched the main pair and the parents. It is quite common these days with a single mum bringing up their child and have all the hope and expectations on her. It is also quite common to experience difficulties in climbing up the corporate ladder. So this C drama has exceeded my expectations on being quite relatable.

There are a few scenes I thought they are great! OK I will wait till you finish the drama than comment 🙂

  15. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Viva, it doesn’t bother me if you comment now. I never minded spoilers except for mysteries to be solved. I know the ending already for the romance so …

  16. I really liked the SML in “My Roommate is a Gumiho”, so will definitely give “Cheer Up” a go. But why-oh-why do they keep drip-feeding us these series?? I want to binge!

If you’re up for a heavier drama to counter-balance the lighter romcoms, I recently finished watching the 2021 Kdrama “Lost”, which is similar in style and substance to “My Liberation Notes”. “Lost” explores darker themes (depression and suicide) but I found it more hopeful and healing at the end. Interestingly, the ML in both dramas works at a male host bar.

    Lost (2021)
    Pros
Main actors: Jeon Do Yeon (The Good Wife) and Ryu Joon Yeol (Reply 1988)
Good scriptwriting / storytelling – sparse but meaningful dialogue, carefully woven story and character development
OST – instrumental (piano/guitar) – best score I’ve heard since Secret Love Affair (it’s a shame soundtrack composers don’t get more recognition)

    Cons
Extremely slow – the writer/director should have paced it faster, but the instrumental music kept my interest through the slow scenes and sparse dialogue
    It’s a melodrama (but not a tearjerker)
I could only find it on Kissasian / Dramacool

  17. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I know @Viva, @grace and others started chatting about the contemporary cdrama: The Rational Life in other threads, but I’d like to mention it here.

What a rational show!!! LOL. I’ve reached (with FFDing in a few scenes) Episode 25 out of 35 episodes, and it’s one modern drama I’d recommend. The production value is good. Show looks great, with lovely scenes of Shanghai and different parts of the country.

It gives a clear, realistic picture of what modern Asian corporate life, family hopes and social expectations are like from a female senior manager’ perspective. I liked the arguments/explanations on why it’s wiser to behave a certain way. There was a lot of good advice given throughout the show. I liked how every challenge made the leads more creative and stronger.

We see how rationally, (without melodrama) one navigates misogyny, unfair work treatment, bad and good bosses and earns respect.

There’s ample comment on the roles of women generally and in marriage: what marriage, singlehood, divorce means in different times of life.

Then there’s also the exploration of what it is to be attached to someone and to date. The different scenarios when the couple are of the same age or different, when the woman is the one doing well compared to the man, when the woman is the older ‘boss’ and the man is the much younger assistant.

The best thing about this drama is that it is founded on reality. The conversations and the situations are not contrived. The coincidences are not jammed in just to forward the plot. The development of themes and relationships are natural. The characters (so far) are true to their natures/personalities from the beginning.

This brief ‘review’ of sorts is incomplete if I don’t mention the actors. They are very good. Qin Lan is so beautiful (in RL 19 years older than Dylan Wang!) but I can believe that she’s only 12 years older in the show. Dylan portrays the young, responsible assistant perfectly. The romance is believable. Even the side characters’ romance(s) are not ‘cringey’ to watch. They add commentary to the question of relationships in different phases, rather than act as filler as in so many other shows.

The message of hope that came through, there’s no such thing as failing indefinitely. In the ups and downs/ebbs and flows of the waves, the ‘bad’ will be washed away and we will have our day(s). Our goodness, staying power, sincere effort, cooperation and ability to work with others, without stomping on them or treating them like objects, will bring about joy(s) and successes along the way. The romances are not the main thing in this series, but they certainly are icing on the cake. 🙂

  18. Great review @GB!

I really enjoyed this show when it came out originally and may be tempted to go back and re-watch.

    Thank you.

  19. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Kate, don’t mention it! You’re very welcome. I’m speeding through it now… I’m at Episode 30. Still so great! 🙂

  20. Annyeong 🌼

Thanks for this @PM3. I’m to up to date with the new stuff. hihihi. 💗 it.

So i started watching CHEER UP and i like it. Never seen a cheer squad like that. i was expecting cheerleaders, american style. and with a male captain! i feel bad for the squad though. i’ll be rooting for them and our main characters.

I’m still watching Law Cafe, Love Contract, and Little Women.

I am planning on also checking out Love is for suckers and Bad Prosecutor tonight 😄

Thanks for your review of Rational Life, @GB. It’s on my list coz of Dylan Wang. but i have many more on my watch list. hihihi.

I’m also watching “THE BEST HIT” which is an oldie. but goodie 😁

  21. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@HK_Lady, you’re welcome. I finished The Rational Life. It was good til the end. It had great writing, fantastic dialogues and monologues, even. Dylan was good. It was a FL-oriented show, with very good actresses like Pan Hong and Qin Lan, but he was able to hold his own.

  22. Kalimera Ladies and let’s have a nice October!

I do hope you are all okay!
I am practicing JOMO for some time now. I don’t seem to be able to watch stories that are stressful or intense. So far, I have put on hold some shows and I am going to watch them when my mood is back.

    What I am watching?

The Law Cafe that I really enjoy. Lee Se Young and Lee Seung Gi are making my Mondays and Tuesdays pretty.

I started Love is for Suckers yesterday and I have to say that I was impressed by Choi Siwon that I haven’t watched him playing in another show, but I know about him. Lee DaHee is simply gorgeous and we do know that. The concept is known, but I like the dynamics so far. We shall see.

BTW, @GB Unnie I haven’t watched “The Liar Game” yet, so I don’t think I will be online this Saturday for the Rewatch Party. If something changes I will tell you!

  23. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Cleo, I’m doing more JOMO-ing than you!!! I’ve not started any of the new shows in Oct and don’t know if I will.

The rewatch parties on their own are enough to take up my time, am still watching one currently airing cdrama (A Romance of Little Forest) and completed one.

No problem about the Liar Game Rewatch Party. We will go ahead as planned. If you want to, you can do a first time watch rather than a rewatch. Yes, I’d love it if you let me know, if you manage to watch at least the first 2-3 episodes. 🙂

    Take care!!

  24. @Cleo – I followed your leave and watched 2 episodes of Love is for Suckers. I enjoyed it too.

I liked Choi Siwon in Revolutionary Love – that was an engaging show.

  25. p.s back-referencing @Packmule3’s comments – CS does tend to ham it up!

But I think this show has promise and some good themes and I laughed at some of our female tv producer’s fearless problem solving on set!

  26. Kalimera Unnie!

Please inform me about the c-drama you are watching.
Okay, then I will inform you if something changes. 🙂

  27. Kalimera @Kate!

Good to see you online! I enjoyed the second episode as well.
I really like the tone of his character. He hides more than what meets the eye.
I will keep the title in mind, since I haven’t watched anything with SiWon in it.

@Packmule3 -hello! 😊 I do hope you are okay-, can you open an open thread for “Love is For Suckers” to comment there and not spam this one? Thank you in advance!

  28. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Hi @Cleo,
Although I’m watching (very slowly waiting for subs) ‘A Romance of the Little Forest’ I am not actually recommending it much, except as a binge-watching exercise. There’s too much filler and the 2nd leads’ romance is such a waste of time. I will only FFD to the times when the FL or the ML pops up or when the main couple are together.

I just saw a review of the cdrama ‘The Disappearing Child’, and am interested to watch it. It’s 12 episodes long. However, since I’ve got things to do in the next few weeks, I’m not sure how much time I’ll spend on it.

I’m supposed to start ‘Cheer Up’… just haven’t got round to it yet.

OK it’s time to start the rewatch party. See you later!

  29. Hi Everyone!!
    Thanks for post @pm3
I’m probably going to catch up to the shows from last month instead of starting something new. I did manage (between LBFD rewatch) to see the following that I actually do recommend if you want something short and sweet.

Love 911 (2012 Movie): Stars Han Hyo-Joo (Happiness), Ma Dong-Seok (Train to Busan), and a much more handsome than I had given credit to Kim Sung-Oh (Korean Odyssey/He’s FL’s assistant). It’s a rom-com, healing romance, and forgiveness. It’s 2 hours long.

A Familiar Stranger (2022 C-drama): It’s only 8 episodes so there are some holes in the plot but I was okay with it because the FL and ML are so good together. Each episode is about 35 minutes long, it’s a period piece, and nice FL/ML sexy angst. The episodes go by quickly, which is probably the reason why there is a lot of missing information. Regardless, I still recommend this love story.

    Read you all later!!

  30. @Carolina- I also loved “A Familiar Stranger.” For a short drama under 4 hours total, I thought it was very well done! Truly a hidden gem!

  31. Hi everyone,

I was in the mood for a frothy romantic comedy this weekend and ended up binge watching ‘Bromance’ – a romantic comedy in the genre of Coffee Prince and You are Beautiful with shades of As You Like it.

Our FL is brought up as a boy until the age of 26 to fulfill a prediction by her parents’ dodgy spiritual advisor.

I saw loads of enthusiastic reviews including this one on My Dramalist and decided to commit to viewing.
    https://mydramalist.com/article/2016/08/31/bromance-an-evolution-of-cross-dressing-dramas

Anyway, our FL meets the ML, the young master of three triad families, played by Baron Chen. All manner of comedy, confusion, romance (including a lot of very good, convincing kiss scenes) follows…

The central couple are excellently played. Megan Lai won an acting award for her portrayal of our female lead. Baron Chen’s father was part of the triad scene in real life and that must have helped him carry off his role.

It’s on Viki and on Myasiantv and I’m sure on other channels too. It came out in 2015/6.

It’s a fun watch rather than one for discussion but a lot of people seem to have enjoyed it.

  32. Hello, Kate. I hope that you are well and keeping warm.

I watched Bromance as my first Taiwanese drama a couple of years ago. I thought it was well acted and written.

  33. Hi @Fern! I am wearing thick jumpers! How about you?

I’m glad you enjoyed Bromance and appreciated the acting and writing. I hadn’t heard of it until I chanced upon some rave reviews under the new (on Viki) series Heroes which stars Baron Chen too.

Did you end up watching ‘Lost in Romance’, btw? I enjoyed that and think that may have been my first Taiwanese drama coincidentally.

  34. Hello, Kate. Layers here; winter coat to walk the dogs after dark. Brisk, eh? Sometimes colder inside than out with an old house. We’re aiming for the old school approach of not turning the heat on until a thin layer of ice forms on the tea indoors. 🥶😄

I started ‘Lost in Romance’ but haven’t got past the first episodes yet. -Attempted fratricide and drone stalking from the beginning? 🤨 But other posters have liked it, so I’ll look at it again.

  35. I’m laughing here Fern! Just about to put on some fingerless gloves…

Re ‘Lost in Romance’ – it may not be your cup of tea anyway but – from memory- the establishing episodes are a bit higgeldy piggeldy! I think I may have given up on it too first time around. Then I came back it and pushed through because I wanted to get to the fantasy part of the story and see what happened.

I really enjoyed it when I got further in and used to the style of the show. The ML is gorgeous and the FL can act.

  36. ‘Situ Aoran! Situ Aoran!’ …sigh…

There is a 5 reasons to watch ‘Lost in Romance’ article on Soompi if you need any more encouragement!

    Stay warm.

  37. ps the Soompi article really rated Marcus Chang’s performance too…

What’s not to enjoy ?! I would insert a smiley here but am slow to know how to insert emoticons.

  38. Fine, you win. I’ll try it again. 😊

(Someone from BoD said to go to EmojiCopy.com, so that is my source here.)

  39. Thank you … and Fern if you don’t like it this time – no pressure from me at all! x

  40. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

A Romance of the Little Forest – What does it say about a show that I finally like the dialogue and the way the plot has moved at episode 22-23 (out of 35 episodes?) The FFDing of the first 20 episodes certainly helped to keep me watching. LOL.

  41. Wow! It’s almost Christmas! Scary! LOL!

Thank you for the October drama list!!!

I haven’t started any kdramas but Love is for Suckers looks interesting. I’ve started a cdrama called Mr Bad. You don’t like the FL there, Queen so you might not want to check that out. But I like Shen Yue and the ML (Chen Zhe Yuan) is Rosie’s new partner in her currently filming drama. So that’s why I’m checking him out. So far so good. 🙂

I’m on episode 5 and I’m liking it so far. It’s fast pace and no need to think. I’ve laughed a few times already too so it’s good. 🙂

  42. @Carolina and @Table122000 thanks so much for recommending A Familiar Stranger (2022). Just finished binge watching it, and it was a very enjoyable period romance mini-series. Didn’t notice any plot holes although the story jumped forward at times, and I would re-wind thinking I nodded off for a moment lol.

  43. Annyeong 🍂

@agdr03 thanks for the heads regarding MR BAD. I will look for it coz i also like Shen Yue. *HAPPY face

  44. Oh dear…I have slid into A Familiar Stranger and found it really captivating and would continue watching it.
Currently watching and old show, The Romance of Tiger and Rose that stars Zhaolusi from 2020 and it was such a hilarious watch so far, wasn’t something I expected, wondering if anyone watched it.
I have unexpectedly slid into a lot of Cdramas, blame it on Love between Fairy and Devil. lol..

  45. Annyeong @HK_Lady

Yes, I’m enjoying Mr Bad so far. I like that it’s only 24 episodes.

    I hope you’ll like it too. ☺️

  46. @grace, I’ve watched The Romance of Tiger and Rose and I liked it. ☺️ It’s got the time travelling thing similar to Mr Bad but it’s the opposite.

If you want another Zhao Lusi, try Dating in the Kitchen. I love that one and very funny too. ☺️

  47. Greetings! I am back from my travels and ready to start watching dramas again on my iPad while I work out (and, of course, also in the evenings sometimes as well).

I started Love is for Suckers but I am not wild about it, despite my usually liking workplace dramas/shows that show the behind-the-scenes making of TV shows, and having found the FL charming in Search:WWW. I think it’s mostly because I’m just not feeling it for the ML. This will probably get relegated to my iPad watching, in 35 minute chunks, if I continue at all with it.

I’m liking Love in Contract more than I imagined I would and find myself looking forward to it every week.

I finished Once Upon a Small Town last week and really enjoyed it. It was a soothing, easy-to-watch romance.

I am going to give Glitch a try because I would like to venture out beyond romantic k-dramas and this might finally be something I can watch with my husband (after our failed attempt at watching Sandman together–too brutal and bloody for my tolerance).

Does anyone know anything about Under the Queen’s Umbrella? It just popped up as a recommended show on my Netflix entry page. I’ve heard absolutely nothing about it so I am hesitant to start it.

I was watching Law Cafe last month and then stopped watching it because I started traveling–but also because I was turned off by the episode that had the arson. I’m not sure I’ll pick it back up. Is anyone else watching it who would recommend I keep going with it?

  48. Annyeong 🍂

@Agdr03 Yes i am enjoying it. Didn’t know it started awhile back so it’s kind’a nice to binge watch for a bit. I think the last 2 episodes are showing this week.

I like Chen Zhe Yuan. He’s very handsome 💗 i like that he’s a fighter, smart, well-dressed 😎 first, he wants to go back to his timeline so he’s acted selfish. and now that he’s inlove, he’s being manipulative. will he become the unforgettable love? for experience or forever? so is he a figment of her imagination? like the character out of her fan-fiction come to life?? i’m confused haha. but is that why she let him stay in her old place? sad back story by the way. he’s pretty resourceful and he adjusted pretty well to the new century living.

I like Shen Yue’s character – even though she’s ordinary – she’s true to herself, not pretentious and she catches bad guys — except what was she doing in that alley way??? and when she gets close to Wudi… they have a lot of close ups – face to face kind’a thingeos. will we see a kiss? i haven’t yet. 😄

  49. @Fern – I talked myself into watching Lost in Romance again!

It heats up plot-wise around Episode 5. It really is very entertaining once it gets into its swing. Just takes a while to establish itself.

It reminds me a bit and may have been inspired by the ITV series Lost in Austen.

  50. @Kate, thank you. Family stuff has kept me off the drama screens during the last few days, but I’ll give it another go.

How are you and your family doing?

  51. Hi @Fern,

We are all ‘getting there’ and doing ok in the grand scheme of things. We are in the midst of house clearance at the moment.

Thank you for asking. I hope your family stuff is not too burdensome.

  52. Times are tricky in the UK just now, right?

Our family stuff is just bitty in comparison. Sort of like whack the mole, where you think one thing is solved, only to get another cropping up. A lot of effort for little return type of thing. I’m down to one K-drama at the moment. A funny thing: I was getting the flu jab and the pharmacist was making conversation. It turns out she is learning Korean and is a fan of K-dramas and of Running Man. Ha!

  53. Yes, tricky indeed @Fern

    That’s great about your unexpected
    flu jab conversation!

  54. @carolina etc…thanks for A Familiar Stranger. I’m on episode 3 and it’s perfect for the elliptical:)

    Currently also watching:
    •Love in Contract
    •Love is for Suckers
    •Gaus Electronics

    On hold :
•Mental Coach Jegal (made it to episode 8)
•One thousand won Lawyer (made it to episode 6 but decided to pause. The next episodes seemed to be a bit dark to explain his backstory and I’m just not in the mood for that right now)
•romance forest whatever. Made it to episode 25 but will wait for the rest to be subbed. It’s only watchable with the ffwd button.

    Dropped: The Law Cafe

    Will try:
    May I help you

  55. Just realized May I help you is an alternate title for 100 won butler.
@table122000 how is voice in the rain? Your description sounds like it might be interesting

  56. I’ll open a thread tonight, @birdie007.

I’m getting ready for a long overseas trip and opening threads is on my to-do list tonight.

  58. Will do, @GB. 👍

  59. Hi @HK_Lady 👋🏻

I’m enjoying it too and yes the binge watch is great. I’m on episode 21 so hoping to finish it tonight.

I’ll join you in liking Chen Zhen Yuan. ☺️ He’s new to me but he does great with his facial expressions and he made me laugh at his antics like dancing when he’s pretending to be sick. 😁

I like him more when he’s not smiling but either way he is handsome and he‘a got beautiful eyes. 😍

I liked this cdrama because the story of NX’s novel is weaved into the drama itself. Clever. ☺️ I liked the second couple too. Don’t they suit each other well? 🥰

I liked the close up scenes too. I’m only on kiss no 1.
