Well, the links are to jraws which give the best resolution downloads with English subtitles, assuming that these sites are not blocked for you.

Enjoy the rewatch.
Thank you @pkml3! You’re on the ball. I forgot about asking for the thread LOL. I just trust that you’ll remember when I forget!!!
The links showed up ok for me in the email, I think. But anyone determined enough to watch will have to be determined enough to type out the urls 😅 😂
You’re welcome, @GB
I actually made a mistake. The thread was scheduled to automatically post at midnight but it didn’t.
I’m glad the links showed up hypertext. I was in admin mode but could only see the links as regular text without the underscore and blue letters.
Have fun tomorrow!
@pkml3, I certainly will have fun!! 😇 😜 😂
Ready for tomorow. 🙂
About the links, there is also the movie “Final Stage” that is the conclusion of the saga.
I put it on a google drive here:

I don’t remember if the subtitles are in the video, so here a subtitle link:

@pm3:
the gif you have posted are welcome because the end of this scene is very funny! 🙂
OOoooppssss. NO nono I’m wrong. you posted the whole thing, so with the gag!
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!
Hi @WE! LOL it’s still funny even in anticipation of its rewatch!
I think I can make it tomorrow. Looking forward to reunite with you! 😀
Hi @FGB!! I’m so glad to see you! Good to know that you are likely to join us!!! See you in around 14 hours’ time.
OK!. Is the 2007 Japanese version with Erika Toda the one we will watch?.
See you later @GB, @WE and @PM3!
Yes, @FGB, it’s the 2007 Japanese Drama ‘Liar Game’ Season 1. 🙂

Hi @WE, @Salteddust and @FGB, I’m online and ready. 13 minutes to go!!!
I’m here too, after a good nap!
I did take a nap too. Didn’t sleep as long as I wanted though, but at least I’m awake enough to enjoy the party.
I am here too. I may have to leave early though.
Hi @salteddust! How long can you hang out here? Do you want to start first and we’ll catch up with you? 5 minutes difference is not much.
Hi salteddust!
@salteddust, you’ll be away already, I read? So when will you be back?
it was VERY early!! 🙂
It’s time to begin… let’s go!!!
ok go!
“what? 100 Yens?”
@GB I am here today and next week, then gone until the 10th or so. I am probably taking my computer so may be able to join while I am gone.
all is very fast paced in this drama.
In a flash: how is honest and naive the heroin.
Yes cold open to 100 yen… like 70 cents?
I find it very unfair that she was tricked.
OK @salteddust. Just come when you can. Watch on your own too if you can. You can add your comments later.
Joining. It’s nice to hear Japanese again (even though all I basically understand is hello, ha ha)
It’s only later that I realised that she was tricked from the very beginning. She was handpicked and continually forced to play. I wondered how it could happen that she could not get out of the game by any legal means, when the game kept saying they had the right to collect money by any means necessary. Very one sided and unfair.
the puppet mask make think a bit about “saw”. Making that sinister, but hoppefully the universe of liar game isn’t that harsh and full of murders.
@GB, yeah, and the notice is on the bottom of the wallet, then say: if you opened it it’s too late, hahaha.
@salteddust: Xo!
Good musics in the drama, as the famous credit one.
I have to pause the show… it’s too fast to watch and read at the same time.
Yes, Japanese is nice to listen to. Many words sound a bit like Korean.
The image of the game master is always hideous… to put the players at a disadvantage. Always an imbalance in power.
The sneaky thing is that they entered her home and left the box there for her. Of course the first thing is anyone would open it even before reading the warning and why should the warning have any weight? What right does the game have to impose itself on innocent people.
We see the psychological impact of receiving a whole bunch of money that does not belong to her. At least this is the reaction of an honest person who does not want to run away with the money.
So much unnecessary stress.
@GB, anyway, the whole thing is a trap for Nao and Mr Akimya. So, they wanted Nao be in the game in any way, then him.
Noa trust so naively the prof (when we can read on his face he’s not honest).
Nanni?!
famous line:
“she’s too honest for her own good”.
Yes, it’s only at the very, very end that we realise that there was a plot to bring in both of them. But mostly, I think they wanted Akiyama, and getting someone like Nao was to bring him in.
the basics are extreme:
– a game where the goal is to lie and be not honest.
– a heroin unable to lie and absurdly honest, trusting anything and anyone.
🙂 🙂 🙂
It’s also a psychological test and game to see how long a person can remain honest in the face of many temptations. Or whether one can choose to do what’s good and right time after time.
It’s disturbing to watch her be tricked by her teacher though. He acts like a regular Japanese teacher would and that relationship is very venerated.
The set up is so evil and deliberately paradoxical… they chose the most honest person they could find, to get them to deceive and cheat.
It seems like someone is constantly watching her home. Whenever she comes home the letter will drop into her letterbox. So scary!
@GB, I think they really wanted Nao too, we feel it in the last episode of this season 1. As she’s like a angel. Well the main thematic. We’ll see that later.
Now the funny scene, when she lift her head, he’s 100 meters away. The kind of gag we don’t get in korean dramas, and looking like a manga or japanese anime one.
How many long have we wait someone in a rendez vous and this person don’t come.
@Salteddust, yes… the teacher-student relationship is turned on its head here.
The one(s) she knows and trusts… will they be true? The stranger… will he be better or worse?
To begin with, it felt like they wanted to use her to get Akiyama… but later they always wanted her for herself because of her personality. Continually she was being tested.
@WE, at least he does go back to check if she’s still there. It’s because of her persistence and naivete that he finally listens to her.
In the category of super smart heroes, mr Akiyama is really a boss. I think about Kang Chul, Sherlock Holmes kind of super power about intelligence. 🙂
The game actually surprised me that there were so many smart people, able to play the game and find the loopholes. I’d fail immediately.
Akiyama speaks so rudely to her.
@WE I had not picked that up about him being ~100 meters away like anime.
Also they do not really explain why she is alone (shouldn’t she have family that she would rely on — I feel like we would get that vibe in a Korean or Chinese drama even if it would not be clear yet).
The other thing that is not explained is why she would feel like she would have to pay back money she did not ask for. I am wondering if it is an implied threat, like everyone would know it must be yakuza or something.
Also I was struck by the paper (!) newspapers in the library… I forgot it even used to be like that.
This background music make think of bees.
@salteddust, yes this is a 2007 show when newspapers were still rampant. I hardly see any newspapers now which is a pity. They come in handy for lining the car LOL.
Nao has a father in a nursing home. This show is unlike the kdramas. It solely concentrates on the game and give hardly any backstory to anyone. In the end we only know a little bit about Akiyama.
I never understood why the game had such sway and why they had not way to get out of it.
@salteddust: this drama is half-made like an anime, about how exagerated are many points, like characters face, and the crazy editing, sounds. What make this unique and masterpiece. 😉
There are also many nice inserts, for explaining game rules (and some are funny when Nao is inside).
Thanks to Nao: Mr Akiyama often explain to her what he does, and so… TO US !! 🙂
The nauseating feeling of the bus moving in that way around the screen, very effective to show what’s happening to Nao.
Yes, this show is extremely stylized. The facial expressions of the other players are often frozen in the same look repeatedly. I had to get used to that.
I don’t watch anime so it was all new to me.
Stressful music, gets me all anxious too!
I’ve ended episode 1! I don’t need to stop the episode to write, as I have a big screen and put BOD in small at the right, and can get the VOD on the right and see everything. 🙂
Say hello to start next episode together!
VOD on the left I wanted to say. hum.
I’m still at the part where AS is explaining to KN the psychological effect he’s creating.
This first game is rather simple about complexity but use a lot of psychological pressure and scam instead. Next one, in some case, it needs to read rules twice! and last one… woo, I add to draw the map of the place because it was unclear how and where people move.
I also have a big screen but I need to give this show more attention from time to time. So I pause it. However if I have time I could do a pre-watch rewatch.
You’ve taken a lot of trouble for this show.
Now Teacher is proudly showing off his safe.
@GB ahaha, AH! You See? It’s really the kind of show needing a rewatch! About complexity of the content, or just the beautiful content, artwork, acting, music, editing, effects.
I rewatched this 12 times (but it was before W, as it was my favorite before W). It’s a few years now I didn’t rewatched the whole. I’ll be probably a bit lost in the last game again.
Hello! I’m starting Episode 2.
Recap first.
I start too. With recap!
The cognitive dissonance explanation makes me laugh.
The short resume of cognitive dissonance resume very well what happens to all people trusting mass medias. T T
@GB, yes the example was fun as in a weird way, Nao is in the example! 🙂
Yes, mass media and loads of fake news.
Teacher is trapping himself next to his safe.
the small moment when Mr Akiyama get up AND… will just give food to the fishes. ahaha.
When we think about it, there was really only one way to get the money from the Teacher.
It was very cleverly setup though.
Dear Friends, my neighbor in diagonal to me is moving out today!. I am the one putting the water in our building today so I noticed. It is my duty as a neighbor to give them a good send-off and to help out as much as possible (even if they only want some coffee and logistical help – AKA please lend me your portable stairs). Will watch later and comment! 😀
I like the quick Matrix moment.
Well, you can try to find a new scenario for this. 🙂
OK @FGB! Read you later.
Yes, I liked how AS got up so decisively only to feed the fish.
Typical reaction of the loser. He blames others for the mistake, when he was the one who failed to check his mail or the validity of the man who came into his home.
Now, what is one of the “signature” of this show: the nerveous breakdown of a gamer when loosing. Always a crazy spaghetty moment.
This show has crazy losers but also a crazy winner LOL.
Here it was a short breakdown… but later, some are ARRRAAAARRWWHHHAAAGGAAAAAAAA AAAGARWWA ATAAAGGGGWWWWWWWWWWW.
@GB, yeah Mr Akiyama isn’t always kind. And even, he likes to tease in a bit arrogant way and push of the wound. gnagnagna.
Here the student teaches the teacher.
She also ‘taught’ AS. He decides that since she gave away her half, she has nothing and half of her nothing is also nothing for him.
The really horrid thing about this game is that there was no warning that there was a Round 2. What a shock that the stress continues after the winning and giving up all the money. Like quicksand, they get sucked in without recourse … this cannot be legal.
the “to the heart” little music. 🙂
Now we have a proof Mr Akiyama can scam anyone but is honest to one person: Nao.
That is the other hook in the show… the reason behind why he’s so unlike a con artist but was in prison. From the beginning we get clues but no spoken word to explain.
The reason why he helps is never mentioned until much later.
Have to go. Made it to the denouement (although now running a tad late). I will finish when I get back and maybe try to get ahead for next week. I am definitely enjoying it more watching it with you all. I kept feeling so bad for Nao and so disturbed by the game I couldn’t even finish the first episode.
Til next week!
@GB.. so if I remember there is a rule (of course they didnt know it at this point): to go out of the game, it cost money. How many? mmh, not sure.
See you @salteddust!
@bye salteddust, see you soon.
They did not warn in advance that there was a Round 2 and that to withdraw from Round 2, they would have to give back the money anyway. So they were trapped by Nao’s kindness/generosity, since she’d given up the money already.
She looks back… The policeman is gone. LOL.
SMILE… golden teeth.
And now… a room full of weird people with extravagant faces and clothes. 🙂 GAMERS.
They must have planted their people in many places to find ‘victims’ to play the game. We do not know how the others were found.
Notice: when she lift her eyes, there is a sound effect. All this introduction is full of slow-motion and over-the-top anime style.
When Mr Akiyama come in… “angel background music” like light from the sky. lol.
So much intimidation in the game. Closed/locked doors, sudden bursts of fire, ugly mask on the game master and limited choices. So much is weighted in favour of the game, although the players are told that they play against each other. They took so long to figure out that the real opponent was the game.
I didn’t notice the sound effects but will look out for them.
End of Episode 2.
Ended too. I think they didn’t explained yet the rule to get out of the game. I’m not sure.
But: first: they must give back the 100M.
Then maybe, to get out cost half of what they gain. To be confirmed later.
I was thinking that this show would be easier to rewatch without making copious notes… *sigh*.
Still it was fun.
It’s just very different from usual shows and needs some getting used to.
Only KN is concerned about what will happen to the losers. AS notes that everyone thinks of the worst case scenario, as if they’ll lose. No one thought of a strategy to ensure that there were no losers.
Thanks for a fun re-watch! I’ll come back on and off to see if anyone added more comments.
@GB, you are speaking about to watch, then rewatch before the official rewatch, so you get the time to write note during the offical rewatch. lol!!!
I get a problem now, after watching the first two episodes I would be able to rewatch the whole. I’m hooked.
Yeah I’ll come back from time to time too.
Have a good day! (or night)
I’ve got no time to be hooked!!! 🤪 😩 😵 😲 😨 🤓 😎
Good day. It’s my night time. Got sleepy again.
😴 😴 😴
I rewatched season 1. Aaaah! It was good. I’m ready for rewatching again. ^^
About the planning, I think we could put together episode 11 and 12.
These two episodes are disapointing on some aspects and looks more like “specials”.
What means:
– The most part of episodes are events from previous episodes. Exactly the same scenes.
– And sometimes there is a new scene, something happening in the backstory. Of course, these parts are very good, we learn more about some characters.
Each time I watched these 2 episodes, I always do that: I jump over all the parts I already know (or for people prefering that: fast forward). I only watch what is new, as there is no need to rewatch again something hapenning in episode 1 to 10 we already know and rewatched without any change.
I can’t estimate the real duration of the new content alone, but… overall it’s short! Not even 30 minutes cumulated on these two episodes. So, a single day look better, with some additional time to be sure to not miss what is new when searching into the video.
Hi @WE,
OK we can put Eps 11 and 12 on the 26th Nov
Ep 13 on 3 Dec
And maybe try the Movie ‘Final Stage’ on 10 Dec.
🤨 💻 🤩 🎞️ 😝 😀 📺 🖥️ 😵💫 😵💫 😵💫
