Bitch Talk: Open Thread

I’m going on a trip overseas.

lol. I still can’t forget what Prince King Charles said. The word “overseas” has never sounded so shady.

If you need me to open a thread, just post your request here. (Remember, no political and legal dramas. Especially not now here in the US.)

If you want to share an amusing story, post it here.

If you need to vent about something, go ahead.

If you want to celebrate a milestone, tell us about it.

If you need a hug because you’re feeling down and tired, here’s a group hug from all of us here.

Singing Happy Birthday sucks. Here are 5 things you can do instead. | Mashable

I’ve already downloaded:

a. Yang Yang’s “You are My Glory” from YouTube. I’ve been saving this drama for a moment like this. I can binge-watch in one go.

By the way, did you all know that this Cdrama can be found on Netflix, Viki, Amazon Prime, and YouTube??!!! Goodness. I don’t think any other cdrama was this popular.

b. seven episodes of “Reset.”

c. a few episodes of 2D1N Season 3.

d. last two episodes of “Alchemy of Souls” from Netflix. I’ll jot down notes for my tardy review.

I wanted to download “Murder, She Wrote” (RIP, Angela Lansbury) but the series isn’t downloadable from Amazon Prime. Oh well.

If there’s any other Cdrama on Youtube or kdrama on Netflix that you want me to take a look at, please tell me. I’ve a long flight. Thanks.

  1. Safe trip and ENJOY the long holiday overseas. ❤️

I haven’t decided on my next c/kdramas but I’m enjoying Mr Bad. That’s about it. ☺️

  2. Mr Bad? Is it on Viki? Or YouTube?

I wanted to download “Love Between Fairy and Devil” but Netflix limited how many shows I could download at a time.

Viki was the stingiest site though! Only episode at a time.

It’s for work, @agdr03. 🙁 But my hubby may fly over and join me.

  3. Oh I thought it’s for a holiday. Definitely get hubby to join you. You’ll need hubby to recharge you and to enjoy the different view at the same time with him. ☺️

Mr Bad is on Viki. It’s just light romvom but I was laughing at episodes 8-12. When his trying to win her and get her attention at the same time.

  4. Kalimera my Queen!

I do hope you are okay. I just wanted to say Hi! 🙂

  5. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi All! Looks like none of you encountered the scary ‘server update’ message. I was wondering why I couldn’t access this site.

Thanks for this thread @pkml3. Yes, I’ll certainly come by to check and post, share, vent, etc LOL.

I’m still happily FFDing ‘A Dream of Splendor’. The dialogues of the main couple are top notch. Expressions, behaviour, words chosen are all very true to real life. I watched AvenueX’s review and know that there was some controversy going on about the show, but it does not affect my viewing pleasure. 🙂

  6. @packmule3 Enjoy your travels!😊

I would recommend the Taiwanese drama Lost Romance. It’s 20 episodes and fully subbed on Viki. It’s about a romance novelist who lands up in one of her novels, and it is hilarious as it pokes fun at all the known romance tropes, like the obligatory shower scene, main pair needs to get stuck in an elevator etc. There are meta references to famous scenes from kdramas like Descendants of the Sun and Goblin where the FL imagines herself in those scenes. The drama is very entertaining and the romance never gets mushy.

I liked the C-drama Mr.Bad too, light-hearted and feel-good romance (@agdr03 we are twinning again❤️). I breezed through the episodes, not much thinking needed. It’s fully subbed on Viki.

If you want a deeper, more mature, moving yet happy romance, I would recommend the Cdrama Forever and Ever. I remember you had started it and there was a long thread on BoD. I can’t recall if you had completed it. If not, maybe you can resume watching. It’s fully subbed on YouTube. It has a historical prequel One and Only but it’s not necessary to watch it to enjoy the modern sequel.

  7. Dear @packmule3, I wish you and safe and enjoyable trip, even if it IS for work. Please let us know that you could mix some pleasure in, too.

It’s not that I’m doing JOMO or FOMO but somehow, I’ve become busier in retirement than while working. I’m only watching Love in Contract and Love is for Suckers. I look forward to your updates when you have finished your shows. I have to catch up on my C-dramas that I started and haven’t yet finished, too.

  8. Have a good trip @pm3! 😊

Mr Bad is an easy watch for me so far (up to ep9). It’s predictable and stressfree. Not addictive. Easy to stop but entertaining enough for me to pick it up whenever I have time.

I like YAMG and waiting to hear your thoughts! I think LoveO2O and YAMG are my two favourite Yang Yang’s dramas.

Let us know if you get to Love Between Fairy and Devil!

  9. @Packmule3 – would love to hear about your work … I keep guessing – but can’t of course! – have a good trip and I hope you enjoy the space to watch dramas while you are away!

  10. @Packmule3, I enjoyed YAMG. Have fun watching it!

Before I boarded my long overseas flight, I downloaded onto my tablet all episodes of Our Blues and, if I needed a change, all episodes of the Chinese remake of Meteor Garden. Being shallow, I wanted more Dylan Wang after Love Between Fairy and Devil. I also downloaded onto my phone–for those inevitable hurry up and wait times during travel–some episodes of the Korean mystery game show Busted, first season, because a lot of top Korean stars make appearances in it.

Our Blues is making me angry by seeming to, at least early on, valuing childhood relationships over marriage vows. The script is trying hard through the first episode to make the male lead sympathetic, but all I can see is someone who doesn’t have his head on straight. I’ll give this show another episode to change my mind, but may drop it and delete all my downloads, which leaves me only Dylan Wang for entertainment on my long flight home next week.

I’ll welcome virtual hugs from my BoD family because the past few weeks have shaken me to my core, for a reason I don’t want to share willy nilly. I am working hard to set a path for a smoother future with the help of legal and counseling experts. Going on this long-planned vacation has given me respite from that emotional chaos.

On a bright note, my younger daughter has pre-announced to us, her parents, her engagement to her boyfriend. They’re keeping the news from others until the end of the month when they have an appointment at a specialty shop where they’ll forge their own couple rings.

It would be a wonderful miracle, @Packmule3, if your travels and mine crossed paths and we could sit and talk over glasses of wine in Porto. I’m slowly making my way up from Lisbon, staying at a variety of smaller cities and towns. I’m currently in Monsanto, a hilltop village renowned for how it incorporated existing boulders into its architecture. I’ll arrive in Porto in a few more days, after one more stop along the way.

  11. @agdr03,

I already made a long list of things hubby can do while I’m away.

For instance, he can do whatever he wants with the big trees outside our bedroom windows. He’s been wanting to trim the branches (or cut them down. Ugh!!) but I couldn’t bear the sight of trees without limbs. So I told him if he could get the arborist to approve of the tree pruning/cutting, he could have his tree-work while I’m gone.

My husband and I don’t see eye-to-eye on trees. He wants to cut them down for safety, maintenance, appearance, land use, etc. And I’m the type to hug a tree, and let-it-live-to-its-natural-death-and-fall-on-me-while-I’m-sleeping.

I just scanned the first 15 minutes of Mr. Bad’s Ep 1. Looks entertaining. I’ll see if it’s on YouTube.

Viki came out with its download feature this year. But a) downloads have an expiration date, and b) so slow to download. I’ll try again tonight when I’ve time.

  12. Hi there @Cleopatra. What are you up to nowadays?

  13. @GB,

I saw the notification too when I woke up. lol. Did I just jinx the site?? I was told that the server was down for 50 minutes but it was back on again at 1:46am (my time??).

I don’t have time to download all of “Love Between Fairy and Devil.” Which 4 episodes do you recommend? I’m at Ep 18. Thanks.

  14. @Phoenix,

I love “Forever and Ever”! The guy is soooo mellow (not “melo” — as in melodramatic) and I like that. I also like that the woman is sensible, not given to hysterics, and capable. She’s the EXACT opposite of the female leads in “Little Women.” Gosh, I need to rinse the images of those female leads in LW. They gave me a headache.

Maybe I’ll download some of my favorite episodes.

  15. My dear @Packmule3,

Kalo mesimeri from my part of the world. I am okay. There are things that need my attention this period in RL, so I am practicing JOMO and trying to do the best with the time I have in my hands.

For quite some time, I cannot watch anything stressful. For that reason, I have paused several shows and I only watch “The Law Cafe” and “Love is for Suckers”. Here and there I might watch “May It Please the Court”.

I can say though, that I have started Dance Lessons instead of Pilates and I feel very enthusiastic about it. My mobility is way better than it was!

I do hope you are okay as well. I read that you are going to a business trip again. Please take care of yourself and enjoy the place as much as you can!

  16. Oh, you retired, @Fern?!! Congratulations!! How does it feel not having to wake up early in the morning?

I don’t know if you heard about it, but here in the US, there’s been a “great retirement” going on among boomers like us. Personally, I know of 8 people who retired on April 1 this year — on April Fool’s Day, no less. Only 2 of them were 65. Many of them didn’t like to return to work after Covid. Some felt that they want to move on to other things. Some were just exhausted by the whole Covid thing. Some just wanted to travel after being cooped up for so long because of Covid.

I hope you enjoy your retirement doing things that you love.

  17. Happy trails @packmule3. Have a nice restful time! Little Women left me in a mood (as my daughter would describe it), so I haven’t ventured to watch anything other than a movie now and then. It’s Spring here and I have been busy in the garden so have been practising JOMO.

  18. “Little Women”? What’s that?

Hahaha. I’m in denial that I watched that kdrama.

Have you checked out this new drama “Under the Queen’s Umbrella” on Netflix? It looks like a makjang, too. 🙂

  19. Old American Lady (OAL)

@packmule3, Safe travels.Hope you get some time to sight see and that you don’t get jet lag (or at least have the time to get over it).

  20. Thank you, @pm3, and have a safe trip!

Is anyone watching Seasons of Blossom? I am wondering if I should start it.

  21. Thank you for the retirement wishes, @packmule3. I am plenty old enough to retire. I started drawing the national pension here after my birthday and will be able to get Social Security here in November. I only had a small job and I started to think it was more trouble than the pay was worth. I had to have encyclopedic knowledge of education law and had a lot of responsibility for organisation of things as well, but the monthly income was about the price of filling up our car or going to the hairdresser for cut-n-colour. Never mind.

I am going to try guerrilla gardening. I think I’ll work on native wildflowers in unexpected places. I’ll do some DIY as well.

  22. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Hi @pkml3!
Selecting just 4 episodes is a tall order, since the majority of them were quite dense and only a few had any filler.

I’ll give you a very brief rundown of a few episodes and you can choose from these:

Ep 19 – We see the change in the unfeeling Moon Supreme with more on his relationship with his father. But while the change in MS is significant, Orchid is mistaken in thinking it makes a difference in what MS’s role entails.

I like this episode for the intense conversation the main couple have over the gulf between them.

Ep 23 – In Yun Meng Lake (the Mortal Realm) Moon Supreme sees how Xiao Run/Chang Heng loves Orchid and starts to understand his own feelings for her.

We get the funny horrible reverse makeover by MS who tries to stop Xiao Run from pursuing Orchid, the pretend married couple and the impromptu sky lantern date with another good conversation on what Orchid and MS each want.

Ep 26 – We see that Orchid saves MS, while unknowingly revealing her identity. She has to make a choice (again) between Chang Heng and Moon Supreme.

Ep 28 – Another intense episode with many things happening. MS makes a public declaration of his commitment towards Orchid. The proposal of marriage. The fantastic conversation between the main couple on Orchid’s responsibility and what she wants from MS.

Ep 31 – The war and the choice to keep everyone alive without colluding with evil.

Ep 35 – The ‘return’ of Orchid, the conversation on the Lovesickness Bridge and MS’s understanding of his fate.

Ep 36 – The finale with showdown between Evil God, MS and finally Xi Yun.

Happy choosing and watching (if you do!).

  23. Safe travels!! Loving ‘A Familiar Stranger’ right now

  24. Have a safe trip @pm3! I haven’t been caught up in a Kdrama since Our Beloved Summer. But I have enjoyed watching some cdramas over the summer. I second the recommendation for lost romance – it takes an episode or two – but it is lots of fun although I fast forwarded through all the family conglomerate power battle scenes. I really loved Master of My Own on Viki. I watched every episode with no fast forwarding (high praise for a C drama) – ugly duckling tale that was an antidote to some of the misogyny we see in the nasty CEO genre.

  25. Safe travels @pm3! Hope the dramas you downloaded gives you much joy watching them. As much as I have much joy watching dramas, some is stressful to watch! lol…so it is also good to find lots of joy outside dramas. 😛

I finished “A familiar stranger” which was such an easy quick 18 episodes of 15min per episode, caught first 30mins of “Under the Queen’s Umbrella” and may watch it if other dramas isn’t better than this…like “Rock It Mom” that is on iQiyi that’s having a really good review. Still loving Love In Contract. ARgh…I feel like I’m hopping from drama to drama sometimes. I can’t decide what to watch.

  26. Old American Lady (OAL)

Hi @Grace, Started UnderThe Queen’s Umbrella
I am a Kim Hye Soo fan and don’t recall her ever doing a sageuk. She never disappoints. So far there’s an interesting plot twist and the usual palace intrigue. The queen dowager is played by halmoeni in start Up/Rosa in HPL and she is power incarnate.Am looking forward to scenes between our powerhouse queens.

The c Dramas are definitely tempting. With my husband’s illness, my drama time is limited. But the distraction is very welcome because it renews my energy.

  27. @Old American Lady: Wishing your husband gets better and hope you find dramas to relax once in a while❤
I too find that some dramas can take my mind off the daily stress.

@packmule3 The pair in ‘Forever and Ever’ is one of my favorite drama pairs – sensible and considerate, not given to overly excessive emotions or verbosity, yet it is a relationship progression done so well. Shows that romance does not need a lot of words to express. The OST is perfect. Thanks to your BoD post, I remembered this drama and watched it for the first time last month😃

  28. @packmule3 I did see trailers for the Queen’s Umbrella but no…no more makjang for a while thank you. 😂

  29. My prayers have been answered. I am going to try to tune in to this…because…I don’t feel like doing anything either 😂😂😂. And the dog 🐶 is in the trailer as part of the cast…so yeah…except why is it on Genie TV? What even is that? 😑. In SiWan’s last drama was also on some random broadcasting station? And the subs were horrendous so I gave up watching after a few eps.

    https://www.soompi.com/article/1550464wpp/watch-im-siwan-seolhyun-and-more-bask-in-their-newfound-leisure-in-teasers-for-upcoming-romance-drama

  30. @Nrllee, maybe just as with Tracer, Im SiWan’s most recent show will eventually be picked up by Viki.

  31. Hey there my twin! @Phoenix 🥰

I’ll see if I can watch Forever and Ever after finishing Mr Bad.

I like Bai Lu so that’s half the reason already. ☺️

  32. Oh your hubby is similar to mine. He planted a tree in the backyard to stop the neighbour looking down on us (there’s nothing really to see) but it’s fully grown and getting taller and he said the roots has gone underneath the shed. I said it’s a tall beautiful tree, why cut it? I lost on that one but I felt really bad for the tree. It’s not as tall now. 😞

If your paying VIP for VIKI, there shouldn’t put any restrictions there. Boooh!

  33. Safe travels @packmule3. Wear a mask as much as you can stand it – I caught COVID on my trip travelling back from US to UK last August. Wore a mask going out cuz I was visiting my 92 year mother in US but didn’t bother on the way back – mistake!

BTW Netflix gives you access in other countries but only to that country’s playlist. I think Viki does as well. Assuming, of course, that where you’re staying has wifi, unless your work is going on safari….

  34. Thanks for the travel tips, @Rebecca.

I’m used to masking up on the plane. I was traveling during Covid, pre-vaccination. 😖 It was quite bothersome but the other alternative (getting sick, being a carrier, hospitalization) would have been 100% times more bothersome.

I also got my shots: boosters AND a flu shot. Lol. Is this how junkies feel? Pumped up and invincible?

I have wifi. I travel with a roaming/international phone plan. But I do carry three phones. 😂😂 Personal, business, and back-up phone with a local SIM card. That’s the number I give out when I expect the locals to call me back, like food delivery, taxi service, masseuse, hair appointments, and so on.

I usually bring two iPads (personal and business), three iPhones, kindle, and two laptops. Two laptops are heavy but I can’t keep up with the blog if I leave my personal laptop behind.

As for the streaming sites, when I travel to Asia, I actually get MORE shows on Netflix and Viki that aren’t available in the US. It’s when I travel to Europe and Africa that I notice a decrease in the playlist so I’m forced to squirrel away all dramas I like and download them like precious nuts in winter.

Maybe I can add VIU now because I’m outside the US.

  35. Old American Lady (OAL)

Wow@packmule3,you carry a lot of devices when you travel-it seems like you can be your own data hub. I guess you can also use VPNs. I added iQIYI and Asian Crush to my home streamers but so much involves per pay services on those or ad based programs. As it is, I think I have too many streamers with Netflix, Viki, Amazon, Apple+ and Disney. Right now I’m disappointed that Disney and Apple have very limiited Asian content in the US. However, there are only so many hours in a day and with my current circumstances, I have to limit my viewing time so I carefully follow very few Dramas. Like right now it is quiet at home so I’ll watch an available Love in Contract episode. No more FOMO for me. Just being more selective. That’s where BOD comes in. You may not know this but this blog serves a curatorial function @packmule3 and her merry band of regulars have excellent taste. The commentary, spoilers and all help me when choosing what to watch. They also fill in cultural references and present alternatives that I don’t have the experience to even think of.This blog taught me about the idea of dropping a drama and even coming back to it. The discussions of the relative merits of translations for the same drama on different streamers adds to my understanding of the Dramas. I owe you all a lot of gratitude for the enrichment you provide. It was a very good day when I stumbled upon this blog. And to pm3, always safe and easy travels. From your description of the lengths you take to incorporate your work life with your private life and BOD, I am in absolute awe. Please stay safe and well and considering the burden of the sheer weight of your devices, please do not place yourself in hernia territory.

  36. For fun and if you, like me, like to hang on to a little Chinese when watching shows…

    https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/comments/y5gqtx/top_40_common_chinese_phrases_with_cdrama/

  37. Thank you, Kate. That was fun in itself. I wish it told me the names of the dramas. So many lovely people.

  38. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Kate, You had me at Ni Hao…(couldn’t resist).

This is great-the pronunciation guide helps so much. Never realized how many Sh sounds there are in Mandarin(my assumption is that this is not a dialect).

  39. @Fern – glad you enjoyed it! I only recognised ‘The Untamed’…

@OAL – that made me hoot – still chuckling!

I am going to try and build up of vocab and string a sentence of sorts together at some point!

  40. @GB, I was unable to download the LBFaD episodes. Netflix and Viki don’t allow it. 😡

But thanks. When I need downtime (which I’m sure I’ll need), I’ll watch them.

  41. Hugs, @Welmaris. Safe travels to you, too. Are you finding your groove back?

And best wishes to your daughter! That’s so cool that she and her fiancé get to create their own rings. To paraphrase LOTR, two rings to unite them both and in lightness bind them.

  42. Safe travels, @pm3.
I recommend mini C Drama “A Familiar Stranger.” Make sure to watch either on Viki or China Huace TV Official YouTube Channel for the best subs.

Amazon Prime has a new film “Catherine Called Birdy” that is getting lots of good buzz. The Jane Austen short story film “Love & Friendship” is also at Amazon Prime.

Congratulations @Fern on your retirement! Enjoy yourself.
Congratulations on your daughter’s engagement @Welmaris. Making their own engagement rings sounds really cool.

  43. Thanks, @Table122000!

  44. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Fern and @Table12200, Love and Friendship stars Kate Beckinsale. It brings her back m to her early costume dramas like Emma(she n was 3ay better than Gwyneth Paltrow] and my favorite, Cold Comfort Farm (with Rufus Sewell playing a himbo with chiseled abs-which goes to show that in the British system, he wasn’t type cast).

Catherine Called Birdie is directed by Lena Dunham and is a far cry from Girls.it gets mixed reviews in ImDB.

I thinkmthat both are movies so the time commitment is minimal by comparisonIto our dramas.

  45. @Old American Lady, I love Kate Beckinsale. Thank you for the recommendation. As you know, I loved Cold Comfort Farm. I never thought a film could do the book justice. We’ve discussed Rufus’s character before. 😊

  46. Greetings from Taipei friends! It’s been a long time! 🙂

@Packmule3, have a great trip wherever you go! If you or any of the people here visit Taipei, please let me know. I am so thankful I am working part-time now so will try to show our BOD community around the city for half a day if possible. My life is much more balanced, peaceful and quiet now. 🙂

I got COVID earlier this month and was in quarantine in my room for 12 days until I tested negative. Then soon later, one of my kids got it (and the other one had to stay home too due to the laws here), and now my husband and my other kid has it. So they are all quarantining at home, but can move around and not be stuck in just one room.

On the bright side, I am thankful I am well now and can take care of them, the medical system is amazing in Taiwan (online doctors to verify you have COVID, pharmacy sends the meds to your door and we pay a fraction of what others elsewhere pay but get top-notch experts, etc.), and UberEats and Food Panda delivers almost anything we need (or want). I ate a lot of Korean food when I was in quarantine since my husband was too busy to 👩‍🍳 cook.

Could you open a thread for “Love Is for Suckers”? I wasn’t planning on watching it,
but I like Siwon and am enjoying the story and our main leads’ chemistry. Am fast forwarding some reality show parts though since they make me cringe.

Also, could there be a thread discussing “20th Century Girl” with Kim Yoo-Jung? She is such a versatile actor and has nailed every role she acted in what I have watched so far. It’s on Netflix and I won’t spoil it, but I wish it had a different ending.

Have a great week friends! After being in quarantined in my room I am much more appreciative of my freedom and know we must take care of our health.

Hope this is not too political—women, life, freedom! ❤️ Stay well and take care friends!

  47. Old American Lady (OAL)

@Hatlady, Am so happy you and your family have and are recovering from Covid. I have been following the threats from China to Taiwan and hope the situation cools off(although Xi is probably saber rattling because it gains him power that he is consolidating in the Party Congress.

You live in one of the most democratic(as in democracy)
countries in the region. I hope things stay that way
Taiwan also makes some fine Dramas and movies so I’m pulling for you.

I am watching Live is for Suckers and I’m loving it.bi like the two leads and the friends to lovers trope. The behind the scenes of a reality TV show story is realistic. For those reasons I hope we get a thread for this program. it is also nice that the leads are adults who have interesting histories and their friendship is deep.i “discovered” Choi Siwon in a favorite, She Was Pretty. I honestly liked him better than the male lead. I get a kick out of him speaking English. I am also watching Live In Contract. It is a good companion piece to Live is for Suckers. I think it is an intriguing role for Park Min Young, whose character is quite complicated. And lastly I am loving Under The Queen’s Umbrella.Kim Hye Soo in a sageuk is a departure for her. I am a big fan of hers.Coin Locker Girl with Kim Go Eun blew me away. KHD was also great in Juvenile Justice(I watched because in my professional life I had Family Court responsibilities and was curious to see the difference in our systems).

@Hatlady, Here’s to you and your family’s good health going forward.

  48. @Old American Lady, thanks for your reply and kind words. I haven’t been here for awhile, and was actually wondering how you and your husband are doing as well! Is he getting the treatment he needs? How is that going? I saw your latest reply on the post about his health was a few weeks ago. Are you staying well and in good health?

Thanks for following what is going on in our part of the world. People just want to live their lives, they don’t want to get involved in politics but it seems like our neighbors across the Taiwan Straits think we belong to them…the funny thing is they have never really ruled Taiwan before so everyone 60 and below that I know considers themselves Taiwanese and not Chinese. We only refer to Chinese food, Chinese language and Chinese culture in a general way, but if you ask the people here what they are identity-wise, they say, “Taiwanese.”

Thanks for cheering us on! We are so thankful to so many people in the world who support our freedom. I really hope you and some of the BODers can visit Taiwan to see how wonderful it really is. We’ve attained, in my opinion, the positive parts of “Chinese culture” yet am a democracy and most people are very kind, open-minded, respectful and friendly. I follow Serpentza and Laowhy16 on Youtube (they lived in China, speak and read Chinese and understand Chinese culture very well) and believe what they are saying about China/Taiwan is spot on. Sadly, it seems like war might be inevitable since it seems like our neighbors are going back to the Mao days and want to assert their dominance and control over this region.

Right now I only watch Korean dramas (occasionally a Japanese drama here and there) and rarely watch any Taiwanese or Chinese dramas. If you or our community here have recs, please let me know.

I find many Chinese dramas too long, and since most of them are dubbed, a little fake as well. One I did enjoy the first few and last few episodes of was “Nothing But Thirty” a Chinese drama that follows the lives of three friends and how their lives change when they reach thirty. It was too long for me (43 episodes) so I watched the first few episodes, a few episodes in the middle, and the last few episodes.

I was curious about “Women in Taipei” a Taiwanese drama that is currently on air, but it’s gotten terrible reviews locally and all my friends rant about how awful it is on Facebook so I have stayed away. They say it’s a grossly inaccurate depiction of life in Taipei and full of cringe-worthy stereotypes.

I usually just watch one drama at a time, so am currently enjoying “Love is for Suckers” on Viki. It’s kind of fun reading the comments people make as well. I thought about dropping it after episode two since I wasn’t sure if it would become crude with the reality show part starting, but I’m glad I didn’t since the next few episodes got better and better. Our main leads’ relationship is mature and relatable, and I will never forget Siwon’s character’s confession which was so raw, sweet and powerful last week, “I’ll be a friend if you need a friend. I’ll be a man if you need a man. Just let me know.” Can’t wait to watch their friendship hopefully blossom into love at the end. Life is hard enough as it is, I am really hoping we get a happy ending.

There have been so many dramas with sad endings this year, and frankly, I understand the need for sad endings sometimes perhaps for artistic value so it leaves you with more of an impact, but I don’t really want to spend 12-20 hours of my life and end feeling cheated if the writers/producers throw a curveball at the end. That’s why I avoided “25, 21.” Since I’m relatively new to K-dramas, there are so many dramas to watch, I can be picky about what to watch and often drop a drama after two episodes if I don’t really like it.

@OldAmericanLady, I think you’ll like “If You Wish Upon Me” which is on Viki as well. Ji Chang Wook and Sooyoung Dong-il Sung were fantastic and it was such a warm-hearted and healing drama. You know how much I love and respect Dr. Romantic, and to me, it’s almost as good and has become one of my favorite medical dramas. Most of the story takes place at a hospice so it’s not really a medical drama, but there are many stories about people and their last wishes. It almost has a “Chocolate” vibe but it’s more heartwarming and I like the script better. 🙂

Thanks for sharing about your professional life. Wow, family court responsibilities! Sounds like a meaninful and fascinating job! I haven’t watched “Juvenile Justice” yet, but agree that the Kim Kyo-soo slays every role she is in. It seems like “One-Dollar Lawyer” and “Law Cafe” are doing well too, but I don’t have time to watch so many dramas at once.

I watched a few clips from “Love in Contract” but couldn’t wrap my head around the premise and kept thinking of “Reply 1998” and see Sun-woo when I see Go Kyung-Po. I’m a fan of both him and Park Hyung-sik, who is in Juror 8, which I watched during my COVID quarantine enjoyed as well. If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend it. It’s a bit similar to “Twelve Angry Men” and is on Viki as well.

Have a good rest of the week! 🙂

  49. *retained not attained
Sorry to the typos, will check more carefully in the future!

  50. I have a recommendation for a J Drama that I just started and can’t stop thinking about – Silent on Viki. It is currently airing, so only 3 episodes are up so far. If you read the synopsis a major plot point will be revealed so I suggest just watching as all is revealed by the end of the first episode anyway. The acting and the storyline is very sweet so far with three likeable characters in a potential ? love triangle. Since it is a J drama, I am questioning if it will stay sweet or go slightly dark, but it is off to a very promising start. Only 11 episode series.

  51. @Hatlady – great to get your perspectives from Taiwan.

    Thank you.

  52. On an extremely silly note: anyone watching Love in Contract and the extremely flexible Park Min Young doing flying yoga and even competing with a love rival doing flying yoga…

this Run BTS episode with the boys doing flying yoga made me laugh and cheered me up!

  53. @Kate 👋🏻 I watched the BTS flying yoga episode 1 and 2 (twice 🙊) and it was hilarious. 😂 loved it! Love everyone’s laugher. 🥰

Everyone got stretched but the pics though were awesome 🤩

I’m practicing JOMO for now but I’ll pick up Love is for Suckers. ☺️

  54. @agdr03— we must have a similar sense of humour! Yes, hilarious!!

I’m watching Love is for Suckers too.

    x

  55. Thanks, @Goid Twin! Will take a look.

  56. I fell into a very deep hole – which is Love between Fairy and Devil. I usually never watch cdramas because there are so many episodes, and I have a feeling if I start I can’t stop.
In short I loved it so much I watched all the BTS and then started to watch Dylan Wang’s variety shows…….
I’m slowly crawling out of this hole ><

Love is for Suckers is getting more interesting, and I just hope Siwon can get happier along the way, so far he looks miserable.

Is anyone watching Gaus Electronics? I’m finding it really funny 😹

  57. Annyeong 🎃

Hope you’re enjoying being abroad @pm3 i love this blog and thank you for making it a safe place to share and vent and get a hug.

I haven’t seen an open thread for Love in Contract after Ep 8. Can you open for 9-12 now i guess haha. Thanks mucho.

@TY… i’m starting “Love between Fairy and Devil” as well and i guess i just had to pass Ep 1 to get me going LOL. i had to give it a few try. They had to wait til the end of Ep 1 to bring Dylan in. darn. just like “you are my glory” – i can’t seem to get past the first Ep – weird. honestly. i will give it another go, another time. after LBFD hehe.

@kate, i’ve never tried flying yoga but watching BTS do it looks like me if i will do it. haha. hmmm it’s good that they start stretching first. you must be good in pilates. yea PMY is flexible and made it look easy haha. thanks for sharing.

@TY yes love is for suckers is getting better with the whole “kingdom of love” show. we get the inside of what happens in those bachelor-y shows.

  58. Old American Lady (OAL)

@agdr and @Kate, Ditto-love these two dramas and PMY doing flying yoga. Happy that she’s not doing hot yoga.

  59. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Hatlady and @Good Twin, thanks for the recommendations. I’m so tempted but am afraid to be buried under or sucked into another series. I’ll have to wait until mid-Nov to start new shows.

Hi @agdr03 and @Kate, good to know you’ve a show to tickle your funny bone. I haven’t tried it but I know it could be a barrel of laughs.

Hi @OAL, glad to see you and know that you’re doing okay. I trust all is well with your husband too, and that the treatment is bearable and beneficial for him.

    Hi @TY and @HK_Lady
Hi-5 @TY, I’m also climbing out of the Love Between Fairy and Devil rabbit hole. It’s a long climb. Although I’m trying other cdramas and Love in Contract, nothing holds me for long.

You can tell from the few but long threads here on LBFD that we really had a blast while both live watching it and re-watching it last month.

I’m also afraid to start a new show despite being tempted by the recommendations here. I can’t afford to be sucked in again, but I also am curious about whether another show can be as addictive as LBFD right now, or whether it will take a longer time. 😬 😅 😂

If you have time to browse, come and read what we posted on the LBFD threads and see if you agree. See you around!

  60. Old American Lady (OAL)

@GrowingBeautifully,Please don’t get sucked into FOMO(fear of missing out).As I have learned being relatively new to all Asian Dramas and films, one can always watch these at your leisure when you have time to savor them. I started watching You Are BB beautiful and went on to Coffee Prince and The greatest Love long after they appeared and by the started watching films like Mood of the Day and Coin Licket Girl. Now that I reply to BOD, I have gone back to prior posts on Dramas I missed it for background and reaction. I think of it as how we read the classics long after publication.Wr weren’t around for Medea, Romeo and Juliet, Siddhartha or movies like Casablanca but still can appreciate them in our time. BOD adds to our joy and appreciation. We are fortunate to be in the know about this wonderful resource. Please don’t stress it.

  61. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@OAL such wise words. I gave that advice as well, and now should take it. I’m preparing for a short intensive study trip and have begun to realise how much I have to get ready. Plus there’s work. Shows are my relaxation. 🙂

  62. Hi all!

‘Love is for Suckers’ is hotting up… I enjoyed the opening segment of Ep * where our too leads reflect on kisses and how they can become commonplace versus when they are valued.

BTW actress playing our FL was one of the celeb panelists for Netflix reality dating show ‘Singles Inferno’ – so she will have some experience albeit not as a PD of this world.

I am enjoying this show… our FL is doing a great job… only slight problem for me at times is that looks wise she is a little too ‘femme fatale’ for the type of role she is portraying. She is playing against her usual type. I wonder if anyone else agrees? I have to suspend disbelief at points.

  63. *Episode 8*

  64. *two leads* – so sorry am exhausted because of some more family related stuff and writing badly!

  65. @Kate, I’ve only seen Lee Da Hee in Search WWW where she played a person who was outwardly glamourous but actually quite clumsy in interpersonal relationships. I really liked her in that. I understand that she has a difficult time getting cast in some dramas because at 5’9″/1.76m she is taller than the average Korean woman.

I haven’t seen her in the Netflix show. That’s interesting – drama overlapping with real life.

Hoping you are well and not too exhausted with family things. Such stuff always takes a long time, but in this post-Covid era, everything seems to be taking even longer than previously.

  66. @Fern – aha…perhaps it is a height thing and in that case. The whole ingenue/clumsy cute girl routine and her being more statuesque than the usual actresses.

    Hmmm.

I liked her in WWW too but I only have dim memories of it.

Thank you – I won’t go into details – difficult situations and bereavements in other bits of the family.

    It’s been quite a year!

  67. @Kate, hope you and your family get peace and comfort. Glad you enjoyed getting another perspective of Taiwan. 🙂

I usually only watch one drama at a time but “Curtain Call” which is coming out on 10/31 seems interesting. Is anyone thinking about watching it?

I’m almost debating if I should wait until “Love Is For Suckers” finishes airing to decide if I want to continue or not. I know this sounds shallow, but I really want our leads to end up together and be happy. There have been too many dramas this year with sad endings (latest is 20th Century Girl) and I don’t want to get so vested in a show if the last two episodes turn out that way.

For “Love Is For Suckers” we are eight episodes in and we already have had the almost kid, proposal, wedding, wedding break-up, kiss, and now the FL seems to play the “noble idiocy” role to keep her show going. I hope she does take a break from the show and not have to work under that PD…Our ML literally dropped everything to help her and the way she stamped on his heart was so cruel. What’s sad is from the episode 9 preview it seems like he has lost all respect for her and seems to think she’ll do whatever it takes for her show to succeed.

I hope she’ll clear up this misunderstanding soon, maybe with the help of their high school friends, since I don’t want the angst and miscommunication to continue too long.

I don’t really like the SFL,she seems sweet and is pretty, but is manipulative and now is trying to the ML to like her out of pity and as he rebounds too.

The kissing montage at the beginning was well done, it shows us how the ML and FL really think about kissing and sets up how that kiss they had was different, but sadly our FL seems to not know or is choosing to refuse her feelings for the ML.

She’ll need to reach out to him since it seems like she’s convinced him he will never have a chance even in the future.

  68. @Fern, I’m just reading the old threads more carefully here. Congratulations on a lifetime of service and work! Hope you enjoy your retirement years and be able to do the things you really want to do!

@Welmaris, congratulations on your daughter’s engagement! The rings sound amazing, creative and thoughtful!

@Good Twin, thanks for the J drama rec. Will need to check it out.

Have a good weekend! I’m looking forward all the costumes the kids will wear this weekend. Last year a student of mine at the elementary school dressed up as COVID-19. Her mom sent me pictures and it was impressive and truly scary!

  69. @Kate, you’ve been through the wars, as my MIL says. I will pray that things go better for your family.

Yes, 5’9″ isn’t extraordinary in the UK, but it would be about 6″ taller than the average. Her movements seem sometimes to be self-consciously

@Hatlady, thank you for your wishes. I haven’t watched dramas this week, so will have to catch up on Love is for Suckers and Love in Contract. With Love is for Suckers, the ML at first said that he would give her time, but then he decides he must be honest about his feelings. TBH, in RL, if I were in her shoes, it would be hard for me to consider a relationship so soon after the marriage fiasco. A part of her would still be grieving and healing, even if she knew it was for the best and even if she knew she liked the ML. Also, there’s her livelihood to consider – she has already lost one show and this was her 2nd chance to do well, both for herself and for her staff. It’s like one of those stress factor lists that include break-up, job-loss, public humiliation. The ML also has waited long in the shadows, both professionally and romantically, so he is ready to find some satisfaction somewhere. I shall have to catch up today while my family is out at the cinema.

  70. @Hatlady, Curtain Call is one of the few dramas I’m interested in. There are a lot of dramas about impersonation. It should go onto the Trope Bingo list.

  71. @Kate, sorry, — self-consciously lithe and graceful.

  72. @Hatlady
I hope you will keep up with your occasional ‘Letters from Tawian’ – so interesting to have a first-hand perspective. Helpful too for prayer.

    @Hatlady & @Fern,

I am hoping Curtain Call will not disappoint. The cast looks great.

I agree that the storyline at the moment is dispiriting because there is so much potential between ML and FL. That said, I did enjoy the kiss montage leading to the kiss that shook them both up.

I would put money on a happy ending – simply because they are throwing so many obstacles at our couple to create the ongoing tension… but I am sympathetic to the blight of K-drama disappointing endings.

I agree on manipulative 2FL – she says one thing and ploughs on nevertheless with her expectation that love must come to her who hangs on with gritted teeth and pleads and plots her way along. She had the capacity to be likeable but has lost that in my eyes. And her only basis for liking ML seems to be his indifference. She is a wealthy beautiful woman and being deprived of what she wants is probably triggering all of this.

    @Fern,

I think the height problem shows up ,pst when they tell her backstory and put her in cute, teeny-tiny t-shirts and colourful girly hair slides. That styling is so wrong for someone with her dramatic good looks and stature. It would look more probable if she was in some dramatic angsty ‘goth’ apparel. Perhaps there isn’t a ‘goth’ scene in Korean schools/Unis.

  73. ps *I agree the storyline for Love is for Suckers*

Thank you both too for your good wishes. Much appreciated. There are seasons in our lives aren’t there where a lot seems to happen.

  74. @Fern – btw – good points re the timing of the ML confession on Love is for Suckers. Do let us know what you think when you catch up.

  75. Hi, Kate. I found this on the internet about Goth style in Korea. I think a modern punk may be the most popular edgy style there.

“Goth is unfamiliar. And there was no fever about it ever.

This is a difference from neighboring Japan. Goth was quite popular in Japan because of metal music fans and Harajuku fashion leaders enjoying experimental fashion.

The only Goth accessory available in Korea is Choker. But no one knows that it is Goth style.

Very few Japanese cultural followers seem to wear Goth style clothes on special occasions. It is called Cospre. Cospre is an abbreviation of costume play which means to play with special clothes.

When asked how we feel about Goth, we recall that this is Japanese culture. And I think that someone will think about the perverse sex taste when he really looks it. Because it makes white skin look overly white. Koreans feel uncomfortable about fashion that enhances sex appeal aspect of body.

In conclusion, Goth is a style that has never been watched in Korea, so they are ignorant and perceive it as one of the characteristic fashions of Western people. If a girl is Goth-style, people do not have a good feeling to her.”

  76. Kate, I’m aiming for this evening to catch up. The rest of the family is going in two groups to the cinema. (I avoid horror films, but they are in a seasonal mood to see them.)

  77. @Fern – fascinating! Thank you for researching this. It’s really helpful to get attuned to these cultural differences.

I guess they could have made her ‘modern punk’… that might have worked better than the ‘cute’ style they gave her.

    Enjoy your catch up!

  78. Home again, home again, jiggity jig from two weeks overseas (shade back at King Charles). @Packmule3, I thought of you as I spread out in the airline lounge, hogging electrical plugs to recharge my devices. I wanted to ensure after a long flight that I could stay entertained during the next leg.

I can rarely fall asleep on planes. I found that, for shallow me, an excellent choice to help the hours fly by was the Chinese remake of Meteor Garden. I can see why unknown, inexperienced Dylan Wong was cast as the male lead and became a sensation. He’s got the “it” factor. I wish him a long, substantial, scandal-free career. And as for this version of the story, I like the screenplay and acting much better than the Korean version, Boys over Flowers. However, BoF will always have a special place in my heart because, thanks to the influence of my younger daughter, it was my first Kdrama.

I’ve spend that past couple of nights catching up on Love in Contract. I thought it would just be a romp, but it delves into the nature of relationships and different ways to feel love. The character of the FL’s roommate has brought me to tears in recent episodes. The SML, who I thought would just be a himbo, has depth and nuance. The almost-catatonic ML is showing hints of the emotions roiling inside.

@Packmule3, may I please have the password for the protected posts on LiC? Thanks.

  79. Hello, Kate. I’ve caught up with Love is for Suckers. I am interested in the friends’ reactions to the ML and FL’s problems. The wife, Oh Hye Jin, thinks it’s too soon for a new relationship, but the husband, Park Dae Shik, thinks Jae Hoon should be proactively pursuing Yeo Reum while she is vulnerable. Once she has definitively turned Jae Hoon down, he would have Jae Hoon date the girl who likes him. It seems like a Mars and Venus thing, but the husband is correct that the timing is bad.

I’m having difficulty believing that Yeo Reum would think it’s morally okay to ask Jae Hoon to kiss the other girl, when he has recently confessed to HER. It’s insulting and sleazy imo. I would have believed it of Chae Ri, but not her. I don’t care if it’s to save the show. I’m not keen on the 2FL, but she’s being humiliated, too. It’s clear to me that Yeo Reum will need a big kick before she understands and can act upon her feelings.

On a what-if tangent: I do find it frustrating that Yeo Reum can’t say to Jae Hoon, ‘Let’s continue this discussion when the show ends.’ Or that he doesn’t just leave, now that he thinks she has friend-zoned him completely. He came on the show as a favour to her and he could figure out a way to get out gracefully. But then we wouldn’t have a story. I can see that the insecure girl taking pills might need some medical help later. I also don’t think we’ve seen the end of Ji-Wan’s past sexual trauma – I don’t trust her date or Producer Kang Chae-ri.

Kang Chae-ri is playing fast and loose with the timings in her editing, but I have to say that while she is diabolical, she really does know her audience. I dislike her moral stance on things, but I begrudgingly admire her initiative and intelligence. I can see why her shows succeed. I wonder what she will learn from Yeo Reum and visa-versa.

In the flashback section of episode 7, yes, it’s strange to see Yeo Reum dressed like a young teen. If she is written to be similar to my daughter, possibly because she stands out visually, she is trying to dress like the other girls in her school; to fit in and not be fashion-forward in any way. We also hear that she had to repeat courses; so at that point she was in class with a younger year group. But she had figured out a career, so she has a motive and a trajectory.

  80. Hi @Fern,

Yes agreed the request is a big kick in the teeth for Jae Hoon — I think the show softens that by making her action one of self-sacrifice to protect a vulnerable person – a Faustian pact with Kang Chaer-ri.

At the same time it is a complete slap in the face for poor Jae Hoon.

And it also creates that scene with the powerful kiss behind a screen because Jae Hoon is having none of the request to kiss someone else.

Agreed too that the lack of communication is a pain… and as you say it drives the story forward also! In real life our hero would have walked out … but of course he is supporting YR and protective too towards our second FL.

I like your interpretation of YR’s clothing and style… signaling being stuck in a younger age group and stage than she should have been. So, some of the awkwardness is her as ‘fish out of water.’

  81. @hatlady yes I don’t know why they brought out Dylan so late in the first episode of LBFD, I skipped through quite a bit of the first episode, and rewatched the part where they meet many times 😆

    @GB
I started watching LBFS because I saw a rewatch post here, and I spent a lot of time scrolling through the posts and everyone’s comments while I was watching the series . It was so addictive that I stayed up late and finished the drama in a few days and couldn’t get out of that headspace and started imagining alternative storylines (the ending wasn’t satisfying enough for me) and then I started rewatching the first few episodes – which didn’t help my obsession. So I watched another drama on IQiYI to help me ease out it 😅

But I’m so glad I’m back to normal now (finally) although still watching clips of Dylan’s variety shows now and then. Phew! I haven’t been so addicted to a show in a very long time.

  82. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@TY I’m glad to know that our posts kept you company while you were in LBFD-land and that you’re back to ‘normal’.

I was just watching some pretty good fan art renditions of our main characters/scenes of the show that were showcased with the OSTs and the lyrics in English. It was very nice to look at and listen to at the same time. They looked like different artists’ works were collected and put together for each OST.

@pkml3, I only put in 3 links but a post is awaiting moderation. 🤔 Please look for it whenever you have a moment. 😀

  84. Done, @GB. It’s your lucky day! I happened to be on my laptop watching drama. hahaha.

  85. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @pkml3, thanks!!! What are you watching?

Something strange … instead of BoD email just coming into my GB email account, I’m getting email at my other email account as well!!! Hmmm. Something wonky in WordPress?

  86. @GB

Thanks for the links!! Sorry for the late reply!
I love the “Find you” song so much!!
The fanart is amazing too 😄

  87. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@TY Good to know that you were able to watch the MVs.

  88. Hi all,

Having relished ‘Love like the Galaxy’ – I discovered that the author of the story from which it is adapted was also the author of the story behind ‘The Story of Minglan’.

‘The Story of Minglan’ is well worth a watch. Having done my re-watch of the final episodes of LLtG to get it fully out of my system, I may go back and rewatch ‘Minglan’. ‘Minglan’ was for me a unique drama – not the predictable story line and visually rich with strong and subtle performances. I am big fan of the female lead.

Anyone else enjoy ‘Minglan’? Like LLtG it builds up slowly… so watcher beware.

I am really enjoying ‘The One and Only’ too… Bai Lu, it turns out, is good in this role and was helped by the fact that she didn’t say a great deal in the earlier episodes (!). I think she is being well directed and avoiding the pitfalls of a cute actress doing her usual thing. She is not the same calibre of actress as Zhao Lusi but is very watchable in this drama as are the rest of the cast.

  89. I am reviewing *One and Only* – confusingly there is another 2021 drama called ‘The One and Only’.

  90. And just in case anyone is contemplating watching the two dramas ‘One and Only’ (costume, romance) and ‘Forever and Ever’ (present day reprisal of our lovers’ story). I would start with ‘One and Only’.

I am enjoying ‘Forever and Ever’ but glad I can remember just how handsome Alan Ren was as a dashing military prince. They have given his modern day equivalent a haircut, with one of those full fringes, that swamps his features and his good looks. The warm brown colour is also not great for him. I don’t know if the unfortunate haircut will change as the story progresses…

Secondly, the modern day version has the obligatory irritating friend of our FL. Intrusive, unsubtle, unfunny etc How do they write these roles and why do our FLs tolerate these awful girlfriends? No-one worse, in my mind, than the irksome friend of the lead in the tv series Love 020 … but there could be a study on these awful plot devices posing as real people!

But I am sure that things will warm up nicely…

  91. Hey @Kate, I have started One and Only. Up to ep3 and like it so far. I don’t know the exact plot but watched the preview. Also the theme song has already hinted the ending so I thought I better started with One and Only first!

At the same time I am watching New Life Begins. I recommend it! Light hearted and lots of yummy food scenes! It is largely about Bai Jing Ting and Tian Xi Wei are in an arranged marriage and watching them falling in love. So far, no annoying FL friends. The wives there so far have a warm(possibly unrealistic😂) and rather harmonic friendship.

  92. @Viva – I hope you continue to enjoy and let us know how you get on ! I am really enjoying ‘Forever and Ever’ – I watch it with a big grin on my face at times.

Thanks for the tip re New Life Begins – I want to see that too! There was some excitement about the BJT kiss on a discussion today!

  93. ‘One and Only’ really stays with you…

I watch so much stuff – late night viewing to help me switch off after a long day- that I often forget a series shortly after having seen it.

    Not the case here.

I emailed a long suffering work colleague about it today and added details as I went along. She was expressing interest in the author of Legends of the Condor, the Chinese Tolkein, Jin Yong.. so had opened the gate to this behaviour!

I read a review too of the whole show which also comments on Bai Lu’s performance saying that she escaped her persona for the first time in this series… and I agree. She got into character beautifully.

  94. @Fern, @Kate, I am just reading your “Love is For Suckers” posts from a few weeks ago. @Fern, thank you for so eloquently writing what I wanted to express what YR could have said!

@Kate, I want to be optimistic about “Love is For Suckers” and heard Lee Da-Hee say in an interview it is a “heartwarming” (whatever that means since it seems to e overused) drama, but so many drama’s have had sad endings I’m almost tempted to wait until all the episodes are out before binge-watching it.

Episode 10 was hard to watch and it looks like in episode 11 JH will give the SLF a chance.

Note to self: Never be so desperate you give up your dignity and self-respect. If something isn’t meant to be, don’t force things.

@Fern, @Kate, did you end up watching “Curtain Call?” If so, what do you think of it so far?
    Have a good week everyone!

  95. Hi again @Hatlady,

I only watched one episode of Curtain Call and then lost momentum. I think it is worth watching – great cast, high production values – but it didn’t quite captivate me as a premise for a compelling drama. I was off put by a review that confirmed my reservations!

So, this is very much my personal take on it. I am sure if it appeals and you persevere it will reward the time.

  96. Old American Lady (OAL)

@HatLady, I am watching Love Is For Suckers and Curtain Call. They have done our ML’s back story as to why he left neurosurgery /neurology. It had puzzled me that he was c able to keep his medical license if he had committed malpractice and how he could become a plastic surgeon without training. All he did was triage patients which was standard operating procedure. It was a giant plot hole that served a subsequent plot point. If course our FL was blamed for outing our MLs secret hideout when it was a good cause. My gripe with this drama is that the FL seems to be vilified for all of her decisions when she has the most vile boss and needs to earn a living in a dog eatdog world. They don’t catcher any slack, even though she’ s been left at the altar and almost lost her jib because of poor ratings because of the chef who is now on the New show. Our ML has a lot more leeway. That’s why I hope, given her hardships, that she triumphs. Another case in point is that c shectrea5s her staff well as opposed to her brittle, super ambitious, mean spirited boss. What I like about this drama is thecway they arecshowing our webtoon artist who is not thin to be the creator deal. I hope c that she ends up with the chef.

Curtain Call has promise. Of course those who arecsuspicious ofvthe ML could surreptitiously DNA test him but then we’d have no drama. However, I am enjoying seeing Ha Ji Wan and Kang Ha Neul working together. I love them so much. I have to rewatch CLOY because I am interested c to hear more North Korean dialect after the actors here speaking it. As an English speaker from New York City I know the c difference between my accent and v those in the South let alone all of the British, Canadian,Australian and New Zealand accents. I am actually hooked on this show to see how this all plays out and because I love watching the Keats play iff each other.

  97. @Kate and @HatLady, I recall that @Old American Lady is watching Curtain Call. I feel bad dropping it because there must be a very good reason why so many top actors agreed to be in it. I may come back to it.
