I laughed because the Park JuHyun seemed to be running in place.

I like the blue lighting. The scene looked serene and otherworldly because of the blue light.

This one, I thought there should have been more petals flowing.

Wow.Β I don’t know how the sound of her voice traveled that far, but his voice didn’t. But it was cute to hear him engage in a one-sided conversation with her.

Let’s enjoy the show.

    Thanks @pkml3!
Woah, I no longer keep track of days when shows air. So Forbidden Marriage is a Fri-Sat show? I’m going to be so busy and laughing so hard this weekend!

  2. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Awww,… he’s so cute in these gifs. *Sniff* pity he can’t just grab his girl. πŸ˜₯

  3. Thank you, @packmule3. That was such a sweet scene.

  4. Old American Lady (OAL)

@packmule3, I am just getting to these episodes. I have Viki but had trouble getting 5hefirst two episodes becauseI think they were having very high volume of viewers. I finally saw the first two episodes on off hours and have to say they were worth the Wait. I had so many belly laughs. Park ju-Hyun is a talented comedic actress (and they say if you can do comedy, you can do drama because you understand timing). I loved her in Zombie Detective. Also looking forward to reading the comments.

  5. The ‘artistic’ books in episode 4: “The Descent of a Rock God.” (Descendants of the Sun?) “A Couple’s Lewd World.” (World of the Married) There were probably others, but I didn’t see subs.

Kim Min Seok was funny as Artist Jeong, the pornographer who gave up drawing to study for the Civil Service exams, as one does. “For turbulent times, becoming a civil servant is the safest bet….That’s the fate of our generation. The country is insecure and everyone wants something stable. So we have to give up three things. Love, marriage, having kids.” He adds that giving up having a house, relationships, dreams and hope, that’s seven.

Of course he falls for Haeyong, the innocent waitress who calls him a pervert. When he asks So Rang what Haeyong likes, he learns it’s romance novels. The ‘artistic’ books are too direct. She enjoys the feeling of getting loved gently. Haha. Don’t we all? He says he will have to write a new book.

  6. @packmule3, do I have a comment pending on episode 4 of Forbidden Marriage?

Gosh, how can one episode be both so tense and so hysterically funny?

  7. πŸ‘ Approved it, @Fern.

  8. Thank you and apologies for the bother. I wonder what word it was this time? I’ll have a look at the homepage to see if there’s a list I should be consulting.

  9. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

What fun these episodes are and so irreverent towards the so-called monarchy. The modern-day feel to the production continues. I hooted when the flower petal-lined red carpet with tealights and heart made of petals on bed were evident. That was just so ‘wedding night-ish’ but the waiting bride in red was Hyeon.

Even in the earlier episode when So Rang hid under the red cloth from Hyeon, and came out covered in it, it already prefigured her being a bride before Hyeon. The conjugal night was a logical follow-through with both Hyeon and So Rang in red.

I thought that for someone so sharp and all in the know about what went on in those art books, and an expert in matching couples, SR had suddenly become too naive to not figure out what Nanny and Eunuch were up to.

  10. @GB, yes, SR was clever about others but not about her own situation – it didn’t seem possible somehow, except that she had been lied to by the old servants and told that she had to look presentable because of her link with the CP.

The modern colour charts for makeup and the “Sex on the Beach” liquor from Arabia was too funny.

I was trying to figure out the meta for Descent of the Rock God, but could only guess. But Descendants of the Sun wasn’t risque’ as far as I can recall, so that probably isn’t it.

  11. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Fern I think Descendants of the Sun is right, although not risque. LOL.

I just thought of my favourite funny part: it was when So Rang said that it was the first time she’d been rammed by a hog, and Shin Won said he was sure it was the first time for the hog too! I still can’t stop laughing when I think of this. πŸ˜‚ 🀣 I think I really like this writer!!

  12. Old American Lady (OAL)

@GB, I was reading about this drama on one of my news feeds. The commenters thought the leads have no chemistry. I think they were wrong because they were approaching the drama like it was any run of the mill K Drama romance. I love this e xactly because it is so comic. Our leads and supporting cast break the mold. We get laugh out loud moments and as said in prior posts as well as your last one, anachronistic contemporary references. Sometimes we get clever in K Dramas but not clever and funny. 5his writer is also not averse to using slzpstick. SoRang and the boar is a great example. Hint, hint, nod, nod, we know So Rang is not going to get seriously injured so we laugh. We see the way comedy is written here, with the set up-So Rang does not believe that there are boars;then the execution- she is chased by the boar and so on; and finally the punchline as you @GB so wonderfully pointed out. I also trust that our leads will somehow get “hot”. It just isn’t time yet as we’re still experiencing the set up.

  13. I absolutely love this show, but I am heartsick that the people I want to end up together may not (hint: king and FL; it’s not that I dislike the second lead and FL storyline, I just ache more for the first two.)

I also had difficulty seeing episodes on KOCOWA switched over to Viki last night and finally got up to all four. I can’t believe I have to wait until Christmas weekend to see more.

Favorite scenes from episode 4 were when King and Bodyguard were discussing the butterfly and the king said something to the effect of “I am the wind that moves/will move the butterfly” and when he told FL to not play/tempt him because all of the ladies in the Kings court belong to him!

  14. Welcome to the thread, @Kelley. @GB and co will love to hear from you.

  15. This is a first for me to be torn between the first and second ML. I mean I’ve always accepted the first in any drama but this second ML always try to get me to be on his side. Stop it show!!!

I was squealing at the kisses even though yeah, King Hyeon was thinking of the CP from the first kiss but the kiss from SoRa while she was sick was waaaaaaaa!!!

I had a great laugh for both episodes. I’m really liking PJH! I love her conjugal night dress. I thought she looked so pretty and that smile that she gave Hyeon. What a great cliff hanger for episode 5.

I’m really liking the not so strict palace rules especially when they have their conversation. I liked that Hyeon was already breaking it by letting SoRa stay on his bed. I liked that he gave her a warning to stop teasing him because yeah he pretty much owns every court lady in the palace.

    I love love episode 3. πŸ™‚

  16. The artistic books was hilarious! I’ve never seen one like this in a kdrama. I love how SoRa knew that ShinWon read it and Hyeon. LOL!

This drama will be on my Top 3 for this year. I just hope it maintains the funny till the end.

I’m not sure if I saw it right on the preview, is that the CP coming back alive?

  17. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL @agdr03, how great to see that you’re loving this show!!
It sounds like this show has episodes that you will want to do a Rewatch for.

I can’t wait for the next episodes. Before the end of the series, I expect a couple or more very nice kisses and they could be from or with either one of the male leads *hubba hubba* (I’m not too particular!) πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‡

Yes, this show does the ‘which will be the OTP?’ tease very well. I’m actually ok with either guy. Pity if they have to become rivals in love when they are friends to begin with. The return of the CP would solve everything but that’s kind of far-fetched. We’ve got to see if show can convince us that, that is possible! πŸ˜’ 😧 😲 πŸ€”

  18. Ohhh @GB, I think for the first time ever I will be requesting for a rewatch alright. You know me well. πŸ™‚ You’ll join us if ever right? πŸ™‚

I’ll second that more kisses but I want from our main couple and I especially want an heir to be present at the end, considering that we have the marriage ban. I’d even wish for a bed scene to be honest. LOL!

True! I don’t want our boy besties to be love rival after being friends for years. Hopefully, it will be fair and square when it comes to winning SoRa’s heart.

  19. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Kelley, Welcome to BOD and to this thread. We’re glad to have more viewer-commenters and readers of this blog.

Yes, isn’t this show just such a breath of fresh air, especially for a saguek. This is the way to do ‘the will FL end up with A or B?’ trope. This show does it so well, unlike Hospital Playlist2!!! And this Writer is a newbie so congrats to her (I think it’s a lady, Cheon Ji Hye) on starting off well. We hope that she’ll be able to finish off the show with as much good humour, comedy and believable romance as she’s started.

Looking forward to your continued commenting on this blog. πŸ™‚

  20. Old American Lady (OAL)

@GB and @agdr03-so tempting-anoother rewatch! Also I have yet to watch these episodes so I’m so stoked for the kisses. Like you, I’ll be happy with the first or second ML.To be greedy, it would be nice if she could be a serial monagomist(LOL).

  21. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

My dear @OAL, I trust that you and your husband are well. I’m always glad to see your posts, to know that despite everything, you’ve had a chance to watch a drama and to read us. I remembered you and your husband at Holy Mass and offered it up for you yesterday.

I’ve been busy this Monday morning. I started on my reply to you fairly early on, but was not able to complete it over a stretch of hours. So here it is at last.

Those who are looking for “hotness” as a sign of chemistry have no idea what they’re missing when they watch the most understated but full of feels romances. The slow burn is crucial LOL.

As for our amazingly comedic threesome here, I find that there’s already a lot of heat built up and manifested in those long looks and strained silences. And all that, while still acting up a storm of OTT action that’s just full of ridiculous fun. The best is that we know these actors are having a whale of a good time while we’re enjoying their crazy antics.

Yes, I like that practically everyone (except perhaps the evil mother-daughter duo and minister henchman) are not at all stereotypical. It’s so good not knowing what to expect next from them. That’s why I burst out laughing when they go totally against type and in the anachronistic modern way.

My next post is to you and @agdr03. πŸ™‚

  22. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @OAL @agdr03
LOL @OAL a serial monogamist…It’s like having your cake(s) and eating it (them). Yes, by all means, since I do like both the handsome, young men.

@agdr03, you choose the episodes to rewatch and as long as it’s a time when I’m not exactly working, driving or sleeping, I’ll join you. Are you in Brisbane time or Sydney time?

Heh! A baby and a bed scene? But not necessarily in that order? LOLOL.

I’m hoping this new writer (this seems to be her only work) will be able to pull off the good-natured sort of rivalry with maybe silly petty jealousies and funny attempts to one-up-man each other to get the girl’s attention. Come to think of it, I’d like to be the girl with both these good-looking guys fawning over her! πŸ˜† πŸ˜‰ πŸ€ͺ πŸ₯° πŸ˜‡

  23. Old American Lady (OAL)

@GtowingBeautifully, Thank you so very much for remembering my husband and me at Holy Mass. I believe in the power of prayer and am touched by your kindness.
Dramas and BOD are my respite.Thisbone, in particular, tickles my fancy. I just finished episode 4 and love the cliff hanger. There is definitely an undercurrent of danger but I hope they keep up with the comedy. The “art” book segment was a hoot. I loved the facial expressions of the first male lead in reaction to the books. And yes, there is something to be said for the slow burn.

  24. Welcome, @Kelley. This is really an unusual drama and like the others, I’m impressed with this writer. Also, I love a comedy, so I hope that the humour stays through the end.

@agdr03, I wondered if the ‘princess’ is perhaps a mirage created for the king by dressing in a princess’s robe. It could be either of the sisters, going by Mr Ax’s strange prediction. I don’t think it’s really the princess because we get a preview of So-rang asking if the king is seeing her or the princess. But Previews are a tricky things, right?

If we were hoping for a clue to the OTP during the hunting, seeing the boar felled by both an arrow and a little ax slayed that thought. Lol. The ax meant for the tree Mr Ax spoke of? It would need to be a sapling at most.

Q off topic: What’s the deal with ax-throwing? There are 3 places in central Plymouth where one can do it.

  25. Off Topic:

@Old American Lady, a belated Happy Hannukah to you and yours, and to anyone who celebrates it. (I tried to find the long post with you in the title, but can’t now.) I hope that you and your family can celebrate, even if more subtly than usual.

For me, it means that I make latkes some day this week from my mom’s recipe.

  26. Old American Lady (OAL)

Thank you @Fern, We lit Chanukah(all the English spellings can drive you nuts)candles and put our electric menorah in the window. I will wait to make latkes for when my son comes home(no recipe-I do all the grating by hand-onions first then potatoes on top to prevent discoloration, and then add eggs, matzoh meal-flour is also good, salt and pepper to taste, stir and squeeze out any excess liquid-it is actually potato starch so if you need potato starch you have it- and then I fry them in either peanut oil or now avocado oil until crispy. Both of the oils have a more neutral flavor. I serve them with apple sauce and sour cream. The matzoh meal makes them crispier). I know people eat donuts too-preferably filled with jelly because it’s all about the oil. I won’t make them homemade because they just opened a Krispy Kreme where I live and those are sooo good. I didn’t know you have c some connection to the holiday so I wish you and others here with any connection a happy holiday of lights. And for everyone during this season, Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy New Year. May you all have a healthy, happy, yummy, prosperous and peaceful new year.

  27. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thank you for your good wishes @OAL. A very Happy Hannukah and Peaceful New Year to you too!

  28. Off topic:

@OAL, I have a friendly connection with the holiday. My mother was stationed near NYC when she was a WAC during WW2. Her best friend on the base was a lady named Florence who lived in the area. Florence’s family was Jewish and she brought my mother to her home and into the city when they had leave. My mother learned some Yiddish expressions and how to make latkes.

I only met Florence once. She stopped by our house near Chicago after going to Polynesia. (perhaps on a round-the-world trip?) She was glamorous and fun with longish wavy red hair. She gave me a little hanging green tiki from New Zealand that I still have and use as an ornament on my Christmas tree. It’s there now.

  29. Old American Lady (OAL)

Off topic,@Fern, What a wonderful memory. I’ll also thank your mother for her service. My Dad was a WWII veteran who saw combat in North Africa and Italy.
He was a member of various veteran’s groups and one of our family friends was a WAVE. Women who did service were rarer then and much to be admired. One of the things about the military then is that it brought disparate people together who learned about each other’s customs and so we now eat pizza, pasta, bagels, won ton soup, etc. And we are richer for it. So I toast you and your family with egg nog this holiday season and hope you have a blessed Christmas.

  30. Ooooh, I quite miss a bit of egg nog. It’s not sold here already made, so I guess I’ll have to make it myself. πŸ˜‹

  31. @GB, let’s see which one we can all rewatch together hopefully. I get confused with my Sydney time against the other times in different countries that’s why I let Queen give me the specific time. πŸ˜‚

It has to be bed scene then the Royal baby. πŸ˜†

I’ll let you know which one ok. ☺️

  32. @Fern, yes, never trust a preview. I hope it will be a great scene when Hyeon finally confesses his feelings for SoRang.

But what a good ending to episode 4, right? ShinWon is showing his true feelings now and I can’t help but feel bad for him.

I hope the writer stays true to the funny and not too angsty too.
