This scene is from Ep 6.
In his mind, he was killing two birds with one stone. One, he had an excuse to meet up with her as civilians, and two, he was doing the proper thing by replacing her camisole.
But because he didn’t know much about women’s lingerie and he was too shy to ask for guidance from the saleslady at the shop, he ended up giving her a tank top that looked like a man’s undershirt. He ended up annoying her with his gift. Her colleagues teased her about the undershirt.
To me, however, she would have tolerated the teasing had his gift looked girly and frilly, rather than utilitarian. Remember? One of her earliest complaints about him was that he lacked a romantic bone in his body.
From Episode 3:
MiKa: (sneezing)
Xing KeLei: (turning away)
MiKa: Why did you evade it? It’s just a sneeze. Why don’t you feel any tender protective feelings?
Xing KeLei: My fierce battle strength isn’t used for tender protective feelings.
lol. That’s the Viki version. This is the dramacool’s sub.
Given that she saw him as unromantic and stern and humorless as they come, it was easy for her to misconstrue his gift of the undershirt as something puritanical and spartan. She probably thought that he was insinuating that she wasn’t the feminine sort of girl.
To me, though, it’s all good since Xing KeLei inadvertently gave themselves a couple item. She gave him her camisole and he gave her an undershirt that looked like one of his. They had a his-and-hers set.
Enjoy the rewatch!
Thank you so much @Packmule3! Much appreciated.
I really enjoyed your reflections above and the analysis on the underwear exchange incident and the result – a his and hers set! Haha.
For someone unconfident about their charms and man’s vest/singlet must have had such a negative effect!
And this was such a charmingly funny episode too and played to BJT’s skill with puzzled expressions and Sandra Ma’s gift for emoting.
I hadn’t completely picked up that she perceived him as unromantic – so the shift later after the disastrous group date (an episode or so later) was quite a big one when BJT phoned to apologise and started to put their relationship into another gear. She blushed with delight.
Hello I’m here and getting myself settled.
Hi, Kate. I’m here, slightly tardy. Are you okay to do this tonight?
Thank you for asking. Yes I am fine. The late afternoon was a bit full on but I am fine. Do you want to go at 20.06?
Yes, let’s do that.
Great.
A nice aerial shot of the compound and surrounding hills. It looks so cold. Do the nurses have to keep their hats on?
Good question!
Sister X – war correspondent extraordinaire…
Proving her metal to the practical Wenbing…
Or is it Wenbin? haha
Poor kid.
Trying to get people to evacuate.
Wenbo. Lol.
Hahaha!
Gosh, out in the nick of time.
Absolutely!!
I love this grandmother.
Wenbo – with cookies… was this a first initiative from him???
MK gets an apple from XK and Wenbo gives an apple to Xiao Xia.
He respects her now…
Not apple, cookies, yes. But to no avail because she had her earbuds in.
Yes the first hint of a confession… while she was elsewhere occupied.
Yes.
Oh, next village and something smells bad. Gangrene?
The SWAT team is just standing around waiting for the operation to finish? Hmmmm.
Hmmmm… it would seem so. Difficult op eh?
Hmmmmm – yes good query!
It sounds complicated due to the toxic gangrene.
Oh, emergency evacuation due to potential flooding when the dam is broken.
Rain will be a disaster.
… there’s this steady build up of tension isn’t there…
The music is helping this sensation. Fast violins.
Yes … good use of music throughout this section of the story…
Everyone in the village is type B blood. Well, it’s almost possible if people have lived there for generations.
Everyone is pushed to the limits of improvisation and self-giving… I find their team work inspiring.
Oh — interesting re the shared blood type.
Oh the first major clash of priorities… XK and Dr S
Sharing a coat! He’s the guy you meet and date in an emergency!
They clashed back at the hospital, too, but this is more logical. XK is trying to save the most people possible.
It’s like the trolley choice.
Yes… ! Nicely put @Fern.
Oh oh, the mine.
I know…..! Haha — bad … and good…
Keyao is still impeccably dressed.
Wenbo gets ginger tea. I love ginger tea.
It’s done with Wenbo’s apology. Take 5?
Yes…hahahah… she stands out for that reason.
I’m not sure I’ve had ginger tea… do you make it from root ginger? Or can you buy ready made?
Shall we resume at 8.55pm? I need a quick break. Is that ok with you?
Yes.
Got it.
And we’re off again!
I’ll have a bit of my Christmas Chocolate stash that I haven’t been eating. My husband has commented on it. But probably hinting to share.
I like pukka Three Ginger tea available in any grocery store. Nice in the winter.
Will try… I like Pukka teas… I’m going to order some.
hahaha… cute colleagues…
Li Nian gets XK and MK to be alone. Sweet.
Another evacuation!
I know… it’s relentless.
Marriage certificate as most precious belonging of the old couple. Gosh.
Yes, indeed… their first instinct.
The swat team beds down outside like sardines.
Yes….! That’s the way to do it.
How does Qiao Xia’s laptop still have battery?
Wenbo is completely whipped.
LOL!!! He has passed through the gates of uncertainty…
Ah, SWAT team as authentic youth idols in QX’s future documentary.
The moral of the tale is … don’t flirt and chase a SWAT team member… but do join him in a life-threatening emergency if you want to stand a chance…
Yes. And Grandma has figured it out, too.
Out of the mouths of Grandmas!
I find Lu Feng far more attractive!
I know I am repeating myself..
I’m terrified of mines, tbh.
Me too… could not do this… not even an underground tour…
I agree about Lu Feng. He’s another surprise, like QX.
Lu Feng staying outside of the tent. Maybe he wasn’t allowed to help?
Yes. That must have been the case.
Horrible to wait above ground too…
I find this part hard to watch.
This is a hard section… although it is one of the most memorable bits…
Ah… hot hands … fever coming on…
ooooh! Mine hanger!!
We’ll have to wait until next time…
This is enough to keep me out of mines, caves and caverns.
Yes… laughing here in sympathy with that statement!
I liked how they decided to stay together. Yes, we’ll definitely have to pick up episode 17 next week. Sort of the geological opposite of a cliff hanger, right?
Great mental strength and mutual support even when he is sick.
Yes exactly… Good. We will can’t avoid the next stages… so key in their relationship.
I’ll ask @Packmule 3 for Episodes 17 and 18 in that case… Oui?
There are lots of mines around here – the entrances have been signposted with danger warnings. I suppose the area is honeycombed with old mines, whether working or for exploration.
I have relatives in Cornwall don’t know your area so well… but I can imagine the same being the case… so many mines and hidden entrances etc etc
Yes, to @pm3. Please could you wait until Tuesday evening as I shall have to check on Tuesday night to see if I am free to do it. I’m the only one home tonight, but I may be asked to go along next week.
Thanks, @Kate.
No problem and no pressure at all @Fern – we have plenty of time to re-watch whatever episodes we want to.
Thank you for tonight.
Have a fine weekend. Speak to you soon.
‘A Mine Under’ rather than a ‘Cliff Hanger’
@Fern – hi. Do you want to and are you free to do a re-watch this week?
@Fern,
I’m guessing you are not up for a re-watch this week.
I’m away next week and possibly the week after and booked up the week after that.
So if there is not much momentum to keep going with this. Let’s leave it.
I originally only wanted to re-watch the first episode of YAMH and then it became more than my original plan.
Thank you for watching thus far. It’s been fun.
I would have been up for it, but I’ve fallen off the notifications for some reason. Also, it’s been hectic. I was supposed to confirm on Tuesday, but I was on the train that night and it slipped my mind. Apologies. I hope that you have a good week off.
The first episodes are the best, imo, but if you want to watch the rescue we can pick it up ourselves and communicate outside of the BoD, so as not to take up bandwidth as it were.
@Fern – it sounds like you’ve had one of those busy weeks!
Let’s do as you suggest and we can pick up the rescue episodes outside of BoD and have some flexibility. I’d forgotten how busy my Friday’s are going to be.
Good thinking!
