Speaking of Park Shin Hye running. I was pleased to see that they gave her good shoes that were not overly high heeled, and that the heels were not pointed. What a horror to have to run that long distance (hopefully only once) in super high heels. Risk to life and ankles!

The joke here is that in the hospital, HJ has been hearing several times that something’s wrong with JW’s head, but when she comes home, Granny is relieved that he’s regained consciousness, is not in a vegetative state and basically has all his wits about him. LOL. But even JW himself says he thinks he’s crazy! Good timing!
ahh, a conflict, ex bitchy wife and the heroin. So nice.

@WE, I can’t understand how he got entangled with someone like Yura. LOL seeing her is his nightmare.

That night HJ can’t sleep and is stunned to find that JW has come running to the hostel LOL still running away from his wife, and from HS, and to get his lens. (I find it amazing that he can drive with such a shattered leg.)
@SD Yura is such a shrew. That actually gives the poor shrew a bad name!

JW’s unreasonable streak crops up again when he tells HJ to take responsibility for bringing his wife into the picture. Poor HJ. How was she to know that Yura was such a shrew.
JW : “How could you just ditch me and come home instead of taking responsibility” (So unfair since Yu Ra practically threw her out of the hospital)
From now, we have mostly the “now” situation, in the car, etc… and lot of flashback.
You see here, all the realtime events could be in the previous episode. But not enough screentime. So it can be told in the next one with flashback.
It’s scary, in the car is safe but it starts to rain or is it really raining? He sees the game text in his mind’s eye… the computer is linked directly to his waking mind. And HS appears with the sword.
JW has learnt his lesson… do not go out where there’s space to swing a sword. Just stay in a cramped space and wait it out so the duel time passes.
@WE yeah I also thought it strange that he could hear the music and the thunder and the rain and yet no rival with the sword. I fully expected him to start thrashing in the bed and waving his crutch around (or something).
I feel very sorry for the long suffering secretary. First the hard kick in the shin and then having to deal with a boss who leaves the hospital and drives (!) with a shattered leg.
Hah! HJ is upset that he’s going to go off on his own while she frets like crazy and can’t sleep. She is so different from his wives… she feels responsible and really cares. She’s better than the wives.

I guess they must be paid a lot to bear with the odd hours, weird and unreasonable demands and troublesome bosses.
No guitar music. Is this a real rain or not (and could he even tell by sticking his hand out since he could feel the stones falling in the earlier version….) Ah there is the music and the silent bloodied rival.

Without the lens, he seems to be only logged in to the duel with HS over and over again at a certain time.
With the lens he gets directions and instructions.
Then the game conceptor has really no respect for private life of people or their goods. Putting objects anywhere.
@SD, that’s a good point. Sometimes in the game, he can feel the things like rocks, stabs and slashings, but he cannot feel the rain?
@WE, Se Ju must have been familiar with that shop in order to use it as the weapons shop.
He needs a gun but he can only afford a dagger and ninja stars. I wonder if he can use them over and over again or if they are one time use only.
I love the way the character Hee Joo rattles on and on at ever increasing speeds whenever she gets angry. It’s a nice touch that such a nice, meek person has this other side when she is frustrated.
Like in a game like “diablo”, he don’t have enough level or money to buy the items.
@SD, HJ impresses JW with her rapid fire speech. She can be a rapper LOL.
And now, she sees him moving his arm like a mad guy.
HJ gets fed up with him for wanting to drive off on his own while she worries and can’t sleep. JW is surprised. He never factored her into his plans.
But now he finds he has to.
She gives him another perspective. He’d suddenly come into her life and was causing her loads of worry. Put her on a roller coaster.
After 1 day of joy at receiving the money, now he fell in her hostel, got injured, and if she let him drive and he dies on the road, how was she going to live.
HJ : “Why are you torturing me like this.”
He had assumed that she would have given up on him or ignored him, like his wife(wives), but she was different. She did take responsibility. She did care more than she should and she was willing to give without asking for anything in return.

I wrote in my notes how this is the episode HJ questions if he’s mad or not. And yet she sticks with him faithfully.
There is something strange, maybe a inconsistencie ?
The swordman have to respect the obstacles, duel time limit… But he’s still able to go to fight in “no-duel” places like the gameshop.
@WE, how do you know the game shop is a no duel place? I thought only the Alcazaba Cafe was designated as no fighting allowed place.
In another way… the bug happened because people fighting in “no duel” zone, so it looks consistent.
@GB, because in any game of this kind, shops are always no-duel zones.
Interesting that the game’s weapon shop dealer is speaking in Spanish not Korean given that the kid who designed the game is Korean (but grew up in Granada basically). ‘Hey you should know your place,’ he says (ha ha) one of the problems of the CEO, not knowing his place.
If the game was on the market, this poor man would have 10 times a day people breaking his door.
@SD, speaking about knowing his place… when JW first duelled HS and before he ‘killed’ him, HS said that JW should admit that the problem lay with him for the failure of his marriages. But at that stage, they were not yet bugs. Now he has to slowly come to terms that his place is that he is the bug … the problem in the game.
Oh sung-moo without mercy with a pregnant woman. So bad.
@WE, true. Most inconsiderate of Se Ju to choose his friend’s shop.
Now we have the evil Prof Cha laying blame on Su Jin, even when he says he knows it’s not her fault, it’s still her fault and he won’t feel sorry for her.
Additionnaly a pregnant woman whose husband has just died.
Oh Sung Moo actor is so good that I forget he was in ‘W’.
It’s really quite horrifying that he has to keep killing his former friend.
I’m sure SJJ had a phone call with the actor.

@SD, JW himself will speak to Park about seeing the dead HS every day and how he copes.
@GB. I know, I had to look him up just to make sure he was the same actor. Such a huge change in demeanor
Oh Sung Moo totally revamped himself for this role. I see no Oh Sung Moo in him at all.

The actor has a subscription to die in Jae-jung dramas.
I like the voice-overs by JW, accompanied by the montages.

@WE, as far as I can tell, the game server seems to be directly connected to JW’s brain as long as he’s awake. He does not have to login but gets connected for the duel. If it was only in his mind, then he wouldn’t have been able to level up, but he did gain points whenever he killed HS.
Pace is slow. Overall, MOTA is quite slow paced.
Or rather, not so hectic than W.
I like that because it makes me more confident when I have some more slow paced episodes in W season2.
Min Ju is so helpful to have around. She gives JW more info that he needs to know about himself and HJ. She’s the one who sees that the relationship between HJ and JW is changing.
Slow paced episodes in W2? Yes have a change of pace here and there, not all slow or all fast.
Min Ju add lot of brightness warm and cherfull moment.
And needless to say, she’s almost a wedding arranger. 🙂
Here the pool scene was cut in half.
SJJ can’t even tell a single and simple scene in one go. lol.
Mi Ju gives the important info that poor HJ had been attacked by a hostile Yura, plus that he’d kept HJ away from her home… now he does not want to be a bother to her anymore.
Sang Beom gives him the opportunity to let HJ go out for her birthday party.
@GB, not really slow, but less about dramatic moments. Episodes 20 to 22 are most related to comedy, romance, warm, even a bit of slice of life, and many stuff about the concept but not dramatic. Then it go back to furious.
The “maybe” boyfriend, always happy to say bad things to Jin-woo.
HJ’s default reaction is worry. She is like a nurse maid.
What happened to Sec Seo? He’s out for long stretches.
Poor Hee-ju, in a kind of one sided love story.

Looks like HJ would much prefer to stay with JW, even during her birthday. Her thoughts turn to him repeatedly.
JW starts to be more appreciative and gets Sec Seo to send her flowers.
The fear starts to rise once the medication wears off.
But he looks at the pillow, and can FEEL her absence.
Gentleman reaction, sends flowers, many. 🙂
HJ falls in love too easily. Even someone who used to be obnoxious to her before and who could be insane now is still someone she can fall in love with.
Here he says “my anxiety come back without meds”.
So maybe his anxiety and remorse help the swordman appears ??

JW always does ‘boyfriend’ like things, per Kdrama — the unexpected hug, the hand grab, ‘don’t go!’ by the bedside. Poor HJ. No wonder she thinks about him and worries about him, ha ha.

Even HJ is a bit psycho, since she’s so happy over the flowers JW sends although he rudely hung up on her.
The time comes for the lightning, thunder and guitar music. Now JW can confirm that HS cannot attack him through the shower stall. HS cannot open doors.

@SD, HJ is easily moved and is trusting. She fell in love with JW before she even knew it.
@GB, right, in the shop, he didn’t open the door.
But the door was broken, and we saw him pass through with a CGI effect.
Lee Re reminds me of the character of Ji Eun-tak in Goblin; similar intonations and fearless repartee with the older man. I like her character here as well; a bit of lightness and comic relief amidst the tension of the thriller.
Cold heart, he plans to leave.
And abandon her, while she doubt about nothing.
@SD, yes I like the actress Lee Re. She takes on spunky roles.

This was the episode where everyone, including Hee Ju, has to grapple with the question of whether JW is right in his head. Perhaps the only person who thought JW was just fine, was Min Ju.
Hee Ju’s friends might also ask if she’s right in her head. In the course of just days, she had willingly become nursemaid to a stranger’s ex-wife, been abused by the stranger’s current wife and then had been taking care of that stranger as if she herself was his wife who could not leave his bedside LOL.
At the end she goes running off after the stranger who’s in a train in the middle of her birthday party.
@GB, it’s not new. Love makes you really do crazy things. ^^

Despite all the abuse, worry, and discomfort that HJ had experienced because of JW, she still cares for him. JW can see her running after him. Due to HJ’s unconditional care for JW, he had started to change from the brash, entitled CEO and self-aggrandizing businessman to someone who started to be more considerate of others.
He found that his self-interest had in a sense turned her life upside-down. Her brother had disappeared after speaking with him, he’d bought her home and business without giving her the true reasons, he’d inadvertently caused her to worry and stay by his side when she was mostly just a stranger. Despite all this, HJ had not complained out of selfishness, but been willing to keep giving.
Seems JW has not experienced this kind of love before.
@WE, I feel that it should be a man’s voice singing ‘my love is you’… meaning that HJ is the embodiment of love for JW.
Interesting that now there is a new sound, the cicada’s buzzing… is it the game or not! Is it just anxiety! Where are the pills!
We were discussing last week about what it was that activated the bug in the game program. Was it the ill-intent of the duellists? Was it the fact that JW and HS had actually made physical contact as well (and been leveled down as a result) or was it a strong emotional trigger like remorse, as @WE suggests.
I’m not sure the show ever clarified this. Of couse we get to see how Marco turned into an NPC later, but was the situation with Marco the same as with JW and HS?
@GB, in the drama “Love in sadness”, the main song was sing in two different version. Female and male.
In the drama we hear more often the male one.
But the one on the OST release was the female one.
And no way to find the male one else than in the drama.
