Thanks @pkml3! I’ve yet to watch Episodes 3 and 4. I am not really keeping track of when each of the many shows I’m watching airs, hence I was surprised to see that Ep 3 had already been subbed last night.
I hope you have time to watch and comment about this drama!!

I’m so hot these days, my choice of snacks are from the refrigerator!!!
I was gardening in the late afternoon so your cold snack emoji is making me hungry, @GB. I planted 5 petunias, 5 begonias, and 5 gomphrenas. I still have 25 more annuals to plant tomorrow.
Nice thing about annuals is that they’re very forgiving to wannabe gardeners like me. Even if I don’t possess a green thumb, I don’t have to feel bad about killing them bec they only live for one summer anyway.🤪🤪
Off to watch kdramas now.

Hi @pkml3, I have some plants but few of them lend their flowers to be plucked for home decoration. I have things like bougainvillea, and air plants LOL. Flowers from trees whose names I don’t know, do not last long if not left on the plant. I end up buying flowers from time to time, to add some colour to my home.
Now, I just remembered that I have a boring agreement to read through. After that maybe I can watch some drama or other!!

EPISODE 3
It’s good to be able to say, the plot thickens, and the thickest part is in school and related to those kids in school. That bunch of bullies and GMS not surprisingly appear to include victims, perpetrators, enablers and their relatives who could be more of the same.
SPOILERS
I really thought from the outset that YY and HJ should have come clean on their motives. However perhaps because of their ‘chance’ meeting, because their family members are involved in the 1987 community, and because for HJ, the matchbox issue raised questions about YY, they decided to keep silent and keep out of each other’s way.
I’m glad that by Episodes end, it looks like they decided to share more information. It’s obvious to viewers that they will need to work together.
I did like that HJ took as much responsibility for YY as he could, although it can be said that he had his own self-interest there as well, to ensure that YY did not mess up his plans. At the moment, they are just two people in the same boat and there is no romantic interest, but the potential is always there. Personally I’d be fine if there never is any romance, but this is a kdrama. 🙄
By Episode 3 we have met all the suspects that HJ found in the 2021 police report. We meet the man who was supposedly wrongly jailed for 30 years, Go Min Su, who we find in 1987 is the older brother of Go Mi Suk
and possibly a sexual predator. I don’t feel bad for his serving time in jail now.
I eye-roll at the lack of caution in YY who is an adult after all, and who should have been wiser in the ways of the world, that she’d get into a car with a stranger, and this after HJ had warned repeatedly that she should not leave without his protection.
From the way the 3 bullies quietened at GMS’s authoritative put-down, I’m guessing that she’s the real leader of the gang. Perhaps she allocates the victims to be handled by the bullies so that she can watch the fun from behind the tall grass, but never get implicated in their bad behaviour.
To YY’s horror, not only was GMS already making use of her mother to write her papers for her, but Soon Ae was enabling it by refusing to report it. Even at the age of 19, GMS had insidious control over the people she wanted to make use of and abuse.
YY will be further shocked to find out that her father was one of the suspects of the serial murders.
One question that may never be answered is why the Time Travel Car was left at that place and time, and available for HJ. Did someone from the future leave that car there for him? I found it suspicious that car appeared to have been fixed by the end of Ep 2, but decided to spark and ‘die’ in Ep 3 so that YY and HJ were forced to stay in 1987. Might there be a controlling force behind it all?
You’re such a nice reviewer, @GB! I don’t know how you managed to watch Ep 3 without wanting to smack some sense into the heroine YY. 🙂 Yes, the bad brother is right. She rushes headlong into situations and looks for trouble.

Thanks @PM3 for this thread and @GB for your recap and thoughts on Ep 3. Wait til Ep 4. i agree with @pm3 in wanting to smack YY for riding with that stranger. omg. yes @GB, he deserves the jail time indeed (present and future).
I don’t understand why YY has to sleep in the couch when that house is big enough to have another room for her. Can anyone explain?
On their dinner – was that pastry (doughnut) with soy?? eeck hahah. but then again, she likes sweet and salty. haha. who doesn’t? i like bacon and donut together haha. or caramel and salt = salted caramel flavor stuff. 😄
when they walked out on the rain – it’s funny that they would shelter themselves with just their arms/hands. why?? just run! hahah. idk, i guess. maybe i’ve done that too. it’s just funny to see it.
i understand why they couldn’t divulge any information but at end of ep 4, they will. yes!!
I can’t believe GMS can be such a murderer. watch the epilogue of ep 4. shocking!!!
i love this show though. i love how it goes back in time and she gets to make it up for her mom and gets to know her mom in a deeper level. coz i think she really treated her mom condescendingly. who does that? YY. augh!!!
HJ – after a while looks pretty handsome – but prince ban or prince 5 – that is soooo funny. but we all know why he’s doing that. yes YY, you didn’t listen. augh! she’s annoying but i like how piercing her stares can be – esp to the future dad. so funny. that too, he is revealed in ways she didn’t know – he could play guitar without even touching a guitar and sing. omg. hilarious! funny how his grandpa thinks they look alike. we all know why! hhahahah.

@HK_Lady
I was actually surprised that HJ did not give up his room for YY but made her sleep in the living room instead. Who knows what’s in the other rooms of the house. Maybe the rest became junk-filled storerooms!! 😆
I was playing around with the idea that GMS is a sociopath or psychopath, and queen of her little kingdom, in which she controls the bullies and likely even her criminal brother.
Episode 4 Epilogue: It’s shocking that GMS would walk in the mud with those high heels and white pants ie she comes in after Soon Ae has died. She seems to have followed her brother into their old home, but he did not seem to know that she’d been so close behind him.
This begs the question … he’d just been released, just come back to the old town but by this time when his sister walks in on him, Soon Ae is already dead. Did he have time to kill Soon Ae or was there someone else at GMS’s beck and call who could have done the deed? Or – and this is unlikely – would she herself have ‘aided’ Soon Ae’s suicide and gone walking in the mud?
If nothing else is accomplished in 1987 for YY, I hope that at least she gets more insight into her father and returns to 2021 to be less judgmental towards him.

@pkml3, Thanks, but it’s not niceness, it’s laziness and lack of energy LOL. I only had the energy to shake my head at her and roll my eyes and decided to expend the little energy I had left on reviewing the episode. 🤣
EPISODE 4
This was a slow-moving episode. I was frustrated because it was only at the end of the episode that YY tells HJ that they need to be honest with each other and that their coming to 1987 was not a coincidence. I’d said that at the end of Ep 3… that they should share info and collaborate, but it took another whole episode for them to figure out what we viewers could have told them from the outset.
At least by the end of the episode, JH was going to tell YY about the killings so that she’d have enough knowledge to keep herself safe.
So what did we actually get from Ep 4?
We get to meet the victim and to hear the thoughts of young GMS as written in the manuscript YY reads/has edited.
We still cannot rule out Go Min Su from the list of suspects of the 1987 killing, since he was out of jail before the victim disappeared. Is someone protecting him so that he could get out before a proper investigation could be carried out? I note above that even in 2021, Go Min Su is out of jail just before Soon Ae if found dead. It’s not entirely outside the realm of possibility that he was on the scene of her death.
HJ is a nice guy. He didn’t blame YY for ignoring his advice and getting herself into trouble. He blamed the culprit and not the victim.
Passing around love letters in matchboxes are trending in the school. Bong Bong Teahouse matchboxes are everywhere, hence it’s hard to pin the killer down just based on the matchbox.
I find it a bit puzzling that YY upon staring at GMS’ expression, comes to the conclusion that GMS is happy that her brother ended up in jail. Of course if GMS is happy about it there are 2 ways to interpret it.
1)Brother is taking the blame for her
2)Brother is not around to harm her.
However YY’s assumptions about her own mother have been proven wrong, therefore how accurate might her assumptions about the young GMS be? She had worked with the 2021 GMS for some time, but still did not know that she might be writing fact instead of fiction, while the young GMS had already tested and figured out YY’s weakness.
While Episode 4 seems to quickly make GMS look like the killer, her voice over about locating her first victim might be attributed to her finding her first victim character in her story writing. We take everything that’s so ‘in-our-face’ obvious with copious amounts of salt.
I think HJ’s actions have already significantly altered the past with his interference in the glue-sniffing incident in 1987 and the forestalling of Go Minsu’s suicide in 2021 that the list of suspects is no longer limited to just the original three.
To me, every time he alters the past, the future becomes unpredictable and unsettled. Take for the Bong Bong Teahouse matchbox. In the original timeline, the matchbox could possibly have been a significant clue. But once he showed the matchbox the Go Minsu in 2021, it no longer became relevant. That’s why, back in 1987, he saw that the matchbox was merely a fad among teens who want to send a love letter to one’s crush.
I wish he had read the car’s manual on time traveling — or at least, we were SHOWN that he did some reading before he started zooming everywhere.
GrowingBeautifully (GB)
@pkml3, yes.
I fancy that HJ’s actions are almost ensuring that he’ll be killed off way before 2021-2023. At least with him digging around, there ought to be attempts made on his life. Or perhaps it’s almost a wish fulfilling thing… it’s because he went back into the past, thus alerting the killer, that failing to kill him between 1987 to the present, the killer finally got the chance in 2023.
It’s an interesting thought that something in the past may lose relevance because HJ brought it to attention in 2021. Perhaps it was never all that relevant, just that it turned up at the scene of more than 1 murder. Or that the murderer wanted to confound the police by using something so ubiquitous as his ‘signature’. THAT however I believe is not often the case. Usually the serial killer types are shown to want to leave some unique, special sign and not something common.
Because of the irascible car that now refuses to be fixed, we are led to believe that HJ’s death and YY’s mother’s ‘suicide’ are events that are meant to be changed. However the ramifications of changes will never be limited to just a couple of people or events. Besides HJ and YY and her mum, the whole community of that complacent, ‘crime-free’ town will be affected and all their futures will be changed.
I recall in ‘Nine: 9 Times Time Travel,’ the dismay when the changes ML made in the past, made his current day people ‘disappear’ or be placed elsewhere.
I’d like to know if there’s an unseen being, providing that nifty car while pulling the strings to change ‘fate’.
Thanks @pkml3! I’ve yet to watch Episodes 3 and 4. I am not really keeping track of when each of the many shows I’m watching airs, hence I was surprised to see that Ep 3 had already been subbed last night.
