  1. Kalimera @Packmule3!

Yes we are watching the show!

  2. Ok, @Cleopatra. That’s good to know!

  3. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @pkml3, yes, @Cleo and I are watching this show. Thanks for the thread!

@Cleo, I’m eager to know all the repercussions of Ji Eum’s revealing her past life self to the past and present life people.

I feel that Seo Ha’s mum may not be able to reveal herself because she’s now a much younger person than her own son. However when he finds out that Ji Eum is actually Ju Won, he may start to wonder if his dead mother has also returned in another body. Poor SH may be even more traumatised if he were to meet his mother in the body of Ha Na.

  4. Me three 😀

  5. Episode 9

Okay things are becoming very interesting and Ep9 was one of the best episodes of the series. I am glad that Yoon Ju Won wanted to reveal some things to Mun Seo Ha. The book was a nice catch!

Also, the scene in that bridge with all the past lives / selves we have seen so far was amazing.

What I am not okay with:
I believe that the jinx MinGi is refering to, is not a curse per se, but more like pure coincidence. Common incidents that can happen to people. Yes, this plant could fall down. Cho Won happened to be there that’s all. Yes, someone would get a disease the doctors don’t know anything about.

If Ji Eum is jeopardizing people from her past lives, what Han Na is doing? Just because she doesn’t say to Tepenim she is Ahjumma? She made contact as well and she is also breaking her rival’s nerves.

So, this part is still not making sense to me. I do hope their explanation will do justice.

No, let me write some more, regarding their FIRST LIFE together.
Here is what I have gathered from what we have seen so far. These are my thoughts / theory and I haven’t read the Webtoon.

Ji Eum had a sister. Seo Ha killed her. We don’t know who JE’s sister is in this life. Although, we might got a hint… *grins*
We know that MinGi was there too and most likely was in unrequited love with Ji Eum. He had also High Status because of the head piece he was wearing.

Ji Eum tried to kill SeoHa in that place, but she was killed instead and died in his arms.

So, who killed Ji Eum? Someone shot an arrow. That means SeoHa was a Royal Guard OR was he a Guard of a High Official OR he was the son of a High Official?

    Could that be MinGi?
Because his actions in the present time are suspicious. He seems to be bitter. Her worlds that her first life doesn’t matter, hit him hard. If the plan is so cut relationships with the people from the first life, then Ji Eum doesn’t need to encounter him as well.

@Unnie, I am still not okay with not knowing WHY there are repercussions.

Well, If JE wont’ tell him that there are other people who remember their past lives, he won’t ask her that. He may believe that she reincarnated, but doesn’t remember her past life too. That could give him peace of mind.

  6. @Packmule3,

We are coming a bit late, but we do comment…I do hope you are enjoying your vacations!

  7. I am watching too. It looks like the murder mystery got solved. Now the 1st life mystery remains.

  8. Episode 9 completed.

The central idea of having someone remembering her past lives is so darn interesting that having time dedicated to a murder mystery is such a waste of time. Especially with such a lame conclusion to all that drama. The only highlights of that is the insights about conflict that Ji-Eum gives us: 1.- Look for simple, smart solutions and 2.- Life is way too short to not cut-off destructive people.

An idea like Ji-Eum’s reincarnation made me remember “The Immortals” show of the 90’s.

The main actress is SO DARN GOOD!!!, sometimes I rewind to enjoy her emoting. Also I enjoy her gradual opening, she started as a mask and has been becoming a more nuanced, likable character…

  9. @FGB,

I also wish that we saw more of JE’s previous lives. There is so much story material there, it is a pity it is not used more.

As for Shin Hye Seon, have you watched 30 but 17 (Still 17)? This is my favorite role of hers. She is also excellent in Hymn Of Death. Wonderful actress!

  10. Episode 10

So, we are learning bit by bit the truth about the first life of Ban Ji Eum and all the major players of her current life were there.

I still believe that MinGi is somewhat wrong regarding what he is saying to Ji Eum. He deliberately made SeoHa enter her room while Ji Eum was having the vision in order her reaction to shock them both.

I was right when I wrote yesterday that SeoHa killed Ji Eum’s sister, but we haven’t seen who gave the order. We know that Do Hyun was there too along with MinGi. And they both were wearing head pieces that marked their status as Royal. So, who had both Ji Eum and her sister killed? The one who gave the order, not the soldier who executed the order.

That is the one responsible and MinGi knows it all.

That’s all I want to write right now.

  11. I’m watching! And enjoying it! I haven’t read the webtoon but someone who had said in a comment that Min Gi(Spoiler alert maybe?)

was good so I tried to ease my mind but these episodes have made it clear that he’s def not on Ban Ji Eun’s side so I guess this is where the show deviates from the toon and I am so curious as to resolving the mystery of this first life

  12. Annyeong, changes! I’m watching too! 😊
Just finished episode 10 and boy, those are some powerful karmic connections in Ji Eum’s life!!! This week’s episodes were mindblowing! I never expected her sister to be in her first life too. Since all the main characters from her first life have assembled in her 19th Life, was Do Hyun there too?

I concur with you all here – Shin Hye Sun is a fabulous actor! I liked her acting in Still 17 and I liked her crying in pain in episode 10, she makes the viewer feel every emotion she is going through. I’ve not seen Mr. Queen but from all accounts her acting was stellar there.

Just one more weekend to go now. I’m going to miss this drama.

  13. Kalimera @Phoenix!

Yes, he was there. I remember seeing him for some seconds in Ep10. He is wearing a matching Head Piece like MinGi. The thing is that today I saw a picture that HD’s robes have a similar blue tone like SeoHa’s. So, I am not that sure anymore if SeoHa killed Ji Eum’s sister. It could also be Do Hyun that used SeoHa’s sword and it makes sense because she was killed by an arrow and Do Hyun is not in the scene at all.

I agree with you. I am going to miss this drama too…

  14. Sorry for the typo..I meant Annyeong, chingus😊 (my phone did an autocorrect🤣)

I’m enjoying all your thoughts here. I agree this is such an interesting premise and there is so much material from Ji Eum’s past lives that could have been explored. I wish they had made this a 16 episode drama instead. There was enough meat in the story to keep it a full length drama.

  15. @Luwa,

I read on MDL that MinGi was a Ji Eum’s friend on the Webtoon and wrote it in one of the threads here, but as it seems they have altered his character on the show.

He is definitely hiding something and manipulating Ji Eum at the same time.

  16. Kalimera, @Cleo!

Thank you for that info😊 I must have missed seeing Do Hyun in the first life. I only felt that because he kept staring at the fireworks photo.

I agree with you because I think the show may be pointing to karmic debts from the first life that need to be paid in the last life for things to come to a full circle and for the rebirth cycles to end. This is what rebirth theories say too. So it may be Do Hyun started this by killing Cho Won, and to avenge her Ji Eum killed Seo Ha (and maybe Min Gi killed Ji Eum trying to hit Seo Ha instead). Now they are all caught in this karmic web of interconnections till they resolve their karma to one another.
I don’t think Min Gi is evil, I feel he is trying to atone for his first life sins. But we will see next week.

    Super interesting!

  17. You are welcome @Phoenix,

MinGi might not be evil. There is a high chance he was in a unrequired love with Ji Eum in their fist life. The thing is how he is letting himself to be presented here.

I mean he let SeoHa enter Ji Eum’s bedroom when he knew that she was currently watching that vision. He made her hold that shaman bells to watch the vision in the first place. That action is deliberately done.

So, I am not that sympathetic towards him at the moment.

As I have said, and we have to thank both “Bulgasal” and “From now on Showtime” for that, it makes sense if we see what happened in Ji Eum’s first live in the 12th episode. It would be best to start the episode by watching what actually happened,in order to proceed with what will happen in the present. It will be also more coherent.

  18. @Cleo
I too think Min Gi was in an unrequited love situation with Ji Eum. Interesting you got the Bulgasal feels too, that’s exactly what I was thinking this flashback reminded me of😝

  19. @Phoenix,

From the first time, we saw those snippets, I was reminded of Bulgasal.
I think that that show had the best first live ever!

Min Gi is also bitter and kinda jealous of SeoHa because I think Ji Eum loved SeoHa in that first live. That’s what I have gathered from his behavior…

    EPISODES 9 AND 10

Hi @Cleo, it took me so long to get to watch these last 2 episodes. What struck me were the ill-omens, the ‘prediction/forewarning’ by Ha Na and Min Ki that the people of JE’s past life would share Ae Gyong’s fate (which is what? Death?).

Even Ha Na’s farewell to JE is ominous.
The words of Ha Na seem to hold foreboding.
Ha Na says to Ji Eum/Jung Won
HN : “It’s time for me to go now.” She says she won’t keep in touch. “I’ve a very important thing to do. … Ju Won, I hope you can cross over safely on your own, from here to there.”
(So this means what? JE has to leave… to die and go to the afterlife? If it’s going to happen soon, poor SH is going to lose Ju Won/JE again.)

    JE does not understand.
HN : “People like us are fortunate to have been able to get along with people from past lives. But still, … when you’re born again you should forge new relationships.” (Is there a rule that past relationships should not be re-forged? Who made the rules? Is this in Bulgasal?)

    Ha Na pats JE’s head.
HN : “You’ll come to understand. I trust you’ll make a wise choice then.” She smiles wanly and turns to walk away.

That really bothered me… are we to have a not so happy ending?

Then the dreams and visions of impending killing/death start to mount and Cho Won’s life is threatened by a falling potted plant.

Some rule of fate/destiny/past lives seems to have been broken but we are never given a clear idea of what and why. We and even Min Ki are sort of left guessing. He only knows because it happened to him but from his experience, he’s not entirely sure he can extrapolate that it would happen to JE… however now he does, so he tells her. But she won’t believe him.
    = = =
Bringing together the various images of her visions and dreams…
1st Life JE had been happy. Cho Won, Seo Ha and Min Ki had been present. There was someone, a shaman, who held the bells and rang them from time to time. JE had found Cho Won dead and her joy had turned to grief and vengeance. She thought that SH who held a bloody sword, had killed Cho Won. She met him on the fireworks bridge to stab him, which she did, but she was shot in the back by an arrow. She fell forward into SH’s arms and saw Min Ki in noble robes, standing behind them staring.

Her visions when she holds the bells have become so profound and real, that she has difficulty telling her past from her present life.
    = = =
Min Ki wants her to regain all her most important 1st life memories. I believe that he does have some shamanistic power, because when he holds the bells and concentrates on JE, her 1st life memories increase.

At first I also toyed with the idea that he wanted JE to be with him instead of with SH, but … ultimately if it’s true that reuniting with past life people will bring some cosmic threat upon their lives, then not only will JE have to avoid SH, Cho Won and Ae Gyong, she also has to stay away from Min Ki.

He may have no other motive than to share his experiences (of making contact with his past life friends) with JE, and to keep the present people in her life safe. I hope so… that he’s more a friend than a foe. But, I guess we will see.

  21. Kalimera Unnie!

I think both MinGi and HanNa are exaggerating. This so called curse has a first in this dramaverse. That’s why I am pissed off because they have left this part in the dark and it seems like a bogus to me.

In Bulgasal, they didn’t know they had an ill fated connection until we saw the last episode of the season where the first life was shown to us. We saw that happened who cursed who and how the curse ending. (I won’t do spoilers here in case someone hasn’t watched Bulgasal.)

What I have gathered after rewatching for three times Ji Eum’s Vision of her first life is the following:

As it seems the Shaman in the fist life was Do Hyun. He was the one who was ringing a porcelain bell the same time that Ji Eum was holding the Shaman bells, so for me that scene is a revelation and not to be missed.

For some ritual both Ji Eum were there along with Cho Won. Cho Won seems to be of importance, since she was the one who was killed. Did they do human offerings for some reason?

Seo Ha didn’t kill Cho Won. The man who killed her took his sword from his case. Two people could have done the deed. The Shaman Do Hyun or the Royal MinGi.

Seo Ha was torn when he walks away. Most likely he is following orders but his heart is broken from what happened.

Although we see that Ji Eum is stabbing SeoHa, her plan is not to kill Seo Ha. She is planning to kill the person who is behind SeoHa. If that is the case, then MinGi is the killer. We don’t see Do Hyun anywhere and he might be the one shooting that arrow who killed Ji Eum.

So, we what we have seen, MinGi – Do Hyun and SeoHa are connected. It is not a coincidence that SeoHa is with MinGi. He might be his guard. MinGi is wearing a head piece. Do Hyun is wearing a similar one. So, there might be a connection between those two.

If we take into consideration that Do Hyun doesn’t want to date Cho Won in the present, it may means that Do Hyun remembers his past life too or he started to remember when Ji Eum entered their current life.

That is how I interpret things.

  22. Correction: How the Curse Ended*

  23. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks for elucidating your thoughts @Cleo, I missed that Do Yun was also in the first life and as the Shaman. What you say sounds about right.

That’s an interesting thought that Min Ki and Ha Na may be exaggerating. Yes, as long as the Show won’t give us the rules of reincarnation, of meeting with past lives’ people and how to stop the cycle of being reborn, I will be giving all those scenes of danger to our protagonists’ friends, the side-eye.

By the reasoning of Min Ki and Ha Na, danger or illness should befall Do Yun and SH as well.

One other forbiddingly bad omen that we saw previously… the Azaleas in Cho Won’s mum’s garden died all at once. Well, better the plants than the mum!

  24. Unnie,

The show doesn’t give us answers, just vagues threats. So, I cannot take them, into consideration. We haven’t read the Webtoon, so we interpret what we see.

MinGi kinda threatened Ji Eum with Cho Won and SeoHa’s wellbeing. That’s why she took the bells to see the Vision in the first place.

Yes, we saw a glimpse that Ji Eum and Do Hyun are passing each other. Then we see a blurred image of the Shaman bowing to a shrine (?), but at the same time, we see DH ringing that porcelain bell when Ji Eum was ringing that Shaman bells. I made the connection.

We need to find images of the robes both MinGi and Do Hyun were wearing in order to find the killer… O.o

The things is that IF MinGi didn’t actually kill Cho Won, he let it happen. He also let Ji Eum to be killed in front of him.

BUT, I cannot feel or see any guilt from his part though. MG’s behaviour -so far- is more suspicious and manipulative. He is the only one we know for sure that he remembers.

Seo Ha doesn’t and my guess that Do Hyun remembers is a guess, but it is a huge possibility, if we notice his reactions.

  25. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Thanks for clarifying further, @Cleo.

Min Ki is definitely the most suspicious character.

Question: Assuming that what Min Ki says is true … is it the case that only if a person remembers that he had other lives, then he must not interact with others of his past life? If he does not remember then it’s OK?

So in the case of Do Yun and Seo Ha: they have been together for years after the death of Ju Won and Do Yun’s dad, and no other dangerous event has happened to either of them. This is either a sign that Min Ki is wrong or that one of the conditions is that one of them needs to remember their past life with the other person.

I’m just trying to establish the rules that I missed. 🤨 🤔 😑

  26. Unnie,

You are right to be confused! In the Webtoon, MinGi is JE’s ally. Here we cannot be so sure. We know he is an Archaelogist from that scene where he went to his Office.
That could explain how he finds all those artifacts from the past.

Yes, MinGi says that the person who has his / her past lives’ memories, he / she shouldn’t interact with those of his past lives. If they don’t, then it’s okay.

As it seems, Do Hyun didn’t remember when he was with SeoHa. So, if he now does, then Ji Eum was the catalyst that made him remember his past life. In that case, he fakes his ignorance regarding the past and he is not trying to establish any connection with Cho Won because of the past and not the curse MinGi is telling about.

So, yes. We are trying to establish those rules in order things to make sense!
