Meanwhile, let me comment on that Guerlain gift box. I just watched this episode so I didn’t see until now what was in the box. I thought all along that he’d given her perfume from Guerlain. The House of Guerlain is famous for gifting the wife of the French emperor Napoleon III a bottled fragrance. Though the scent of the perfume is hardly talked about, the bottle is designed with a bee motif. The bee was the emblem of Napoleonic France, and the bee became synonymous with Guerlain, too.
Guerlain is also famous for the perfume “Shalimar.” It’s supposed to evoke the fragrance of the gardens of Shalimar which the Mogul Emperor Shah Jahan built for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. You’ve heard of Taj Mahal, right? It’s one of the seven wonders of the world. Well, that mausoleum was dedicated to Mumtaz Mahal.
Guerlain wanted to name the new fragrance after the Shah’s and Mumtaz Mahal’s love story but he could hardly name it after a mausoleum. How would you like to wear a scent of a dead person?? Huh? Didn’t make sense.
So he called it “Shalimar” after the gardens the Shah made for Mumtaz Mahal. The perfume bottle looks like an urn in the garden.
That’s the perfume I thought Duan Jiaxu had given our Sang Zhi.
But I was surprised — no, I was flabbergasted — when I saw his present. He gave her “Abeille Royale.” It’s the ANTI-AGING skincare set.
Why would he gift that to an 18 year old girl??? He’s soooo clueless. He just wasted $250 on her.
No wonder she hadn’t open it. She didn’t need to use it till she was in her 30s.
Ladies’ man?? Nope. He’s definitely NOT a ladies’ man.
He gifted that on her 18th birthday if I’m not mistaken. She put that happy 18th birthday note to the Guerlain box set.
I didn’t have any clue what it is but yeah that’s pretty expensive and yeah why that? 😂

I shall have to look at that Guerlain gift set. I had taken someone else’s word that it was a citrus/grapefruit scent which would be fine for a teenager. Still, Abeille Royale must have smelled nice, because SZ sprayed the cologne around the room.

It’s not a cologne. None of the bottles is a cologne. 🤦♀️ The gift set is a skin product meant to fight wrinkles, tone the skin, etc.

Fortifying Lotion – Bottle 150 mL
Advanced Youth Watery Oil – Pipette Bottle 15 mL
Double R Renew & Repair Advanced Serum – Pump Bottle 50 mL
I cannot do screenshots right now. But if you rewatch it, then the biggest bottle is lotion. The bottle in the middle (smallest in size) is advanced youth oil. (“Advanced” youth, get it? A 30 something year old can be an “advanced” youth.) And the medium sized bottle is the serum.
Why on earth would she spray it around the room? 😂😂🤣😂😂

@packmule3, it was episode 13, 22.29. The bottle she is spraying looks like perfume or eau de toilette; a spray top rather than a pump. Maybe it was a different gift set? Maybe she simply likes the smell? Haha, immediately afterwards DJ texts her as though the spray summoned him, like a genie. 🧞
It may be moot. My screen isn’t good enough for me to read the print on the bottle, but looking up the Guerlain perfumes, it looks like one of the Aqua Allegoria scents. So it may be PPL or it may be another gift from him separate from the 18th birthday box that she opened earlier.

You’re right. It is Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria. That didn’t come from the same gift set.
It could be that:
a. prop director switched it for the Abeille Royale lotion, thinking that viewers wouldn’t know/notice/care about the change.
b. it was another gift from Jiaxu (there were more things in the box she opened than we saw her put in).
c. it’s product placement.
I googled this:
Guerlain did produce an “Abeille Royale” fragrance but only a limited number was made. Less than 50 bottles in the whole world. 🙂 I don’t think Jiaxu could have afforded THAT on his IT salary. And even if he did…if he were my son, I’d give him a serious talk about frittering money on “sisters.” I’d say, Son, you can’t buy love (affections, feelings, brotherly sentiments, whatever).

I didn’t want you to forget that he bought her dinner on New Year’s Eve. 🙂 I added that gift in.
But when I think about it, it’s possible that Sang Zhi ended up paying for the dinner because of all the commotion. I’m too lazy to go back and check now.
@agdr03, thanks and good work on the very large gift list. –And those are only the ones that the drama shows, not all for each of the holidays and birthdays. Very generous.
@packmule3, if Jiaxu had a mother like you, he wouldn’t need anyone’s sympathy.😊 But he would have continued to send gifts because he promised he would as rewards.
The meal payment isn’t shown. I would imagine SZ took care of it because she was in her ‘in charge’ boss mode and he seemed still in shock.
Heavens, the gifts got a bit pricey! I had no idea that set would be so expensive. He seemed to be extravagant solely with SZ. (Even the Aqua Allegoria is between about £75 and £120 at Sephora depending on size)
DJ seemed to put on a front for the outside world, but still had his father’s care home and medical bills to pay so I think he was a clandestine saver. Did you notice how humble his original Yihe apartment is compared to his ‘outside’ outfits for work? He only ate well in the company of others. Of course, the cars are all product placement, so we can discount them probably.
