Behind Your Touch: Ep 14 So Who’s the Serial Killer?

For the first time in many moons, I’m completely stumped. If you haven’t watched the last episode, here’s the quick lowdown.

The veterinarian YeBun convinces the detective Jang Yeol (JY) that they’re wrong to trust the farmer KwangShik. She suspects that KwangShik is the killer because a) he acted paranoid when she tried to “read” his girlfriend’s memories, as if he was hiding something, and b) he was the one who sent them all looking for a third person with psychic abilities.

Her theory proves wrong, however, when KwangShik is also stabbed to death by the serial killer. Unknown to YeBun and JY, he had gone to office of the former (now deceased) Assemblyman Cha on the pretext of delivering milk when he really wanted to check on the light switch. I think he had a hunch that the killer had “night vision” or could see in the dark.

On his way back to the farm, he’s ambushed by the killer. Despite getting stabbed, he manages to reach YeBun’s clinic and utters one word before he dies. His clue for her is “black.”

Meanwhile, JY encounters the serial murderer, dressed in a raincoat and holding a bloody knife. He chases after him and almost catches him. But the killer slices his arm and escapes.

Following his gut instincts, JY runs to SunWoo’s house and finds him conveniently taking out the trash. He dumps the contents of the trash bag in hopes of finding the bloody knife and/or the wet raincoat. Ha! That would have been too easy.

Instead, he spots the blood, still wet, on SunWoo’s sleeve. The poor guy has no idea how it got there.

With KwangShik’s dead, JY’s back to suspecting Sunwoo but he can’t convince YeBun to stay away from Sunwoo. She’s certain that he can’t be the murderer because a) he’s a decent man and b) she “read” nothing criminal in his memories. Unfortunately for her, her curiosity gets the better of her and she investigates Sunwoo’s toolbox while he’s away with the Shaman. Inside the box, she discovers the bloody knife and concludes that Sunwoo is the killer. She runs away but Sunwoo spots her and chases after her.

It doesn’t cross her mind that if Sunwoo is the killer then a) he should have wiped off the blood to make it look like any ordinary knife, and b) he wouldn’t have wrapped the handle in plastic. To me, Sunwoo found the knife and was keeping it as evidence to hand over to YeBun who would, in turn, give to Detective JY at a more convenient time. He has no intentions to stab her.

But because YeBun assumes the worst about him, she flees from him, and runs straight into the serial killer. Sunwoo dies while protecting her.

So, with KwangShik and Sunwoo out, who’s left as suspect?

Let me see now:

There’s JY’s colleague, the junior detective DeokHee. He certainly looked suspicious when he didn’t want YeBun to touch his behind. But he was nowhere near the crime scenes, when the crimes actually occurred. Nope.

There’s Mr. Kang, the assistant of the dead Assemblyman Cha. He was in the office when KwangShik suddenly showed up to “deliver” milk. However, when the third victim, the coffee shop worker, was killed in the cornfields, he was at Assemblyman Cha’s side at the campaign room. Nope.

My money is on the Shaman Mr. Park.

  1. Howdy! I’m watching this too and yes I agree, I was like who’s left after the two suspects got killed as well on that last episode?

I’ll join you, it has to be Mr Park, the shaman. I don’t want DeokHee to be the killer. I hope his not.

I initially thought it’s Mr Kang as well but not now.

  2. As I posted a few days ago (under the BYT Ep 1-2)—I also think it’s the shaman because there are few other main characters left. He was also the first person to touch the vet when she left Ji Suk hidden in the bushes. My theory is that it isn’t night vision but that he is murdering during a possession or trance (he has gotten possessed by some evil mountain spirit). So when the vet touches his butt he has no memory of what happened and seems innocent.

However, as I also said previously—I’m beginning not to care about the killer or this show. It’s been a weird mix of humor/parody and serial murder. And it isn’t much fun anymore…

  3. Thanks, @BethB.

Though I considered the theory that the shaman was under some sort of supernatural trance or self-induced hypnosis when he murdered the people, that would make it impossible to prosecute the shaman for the serial crimes. He would lack the mental element (or “guilty mind”) required in the commission of the murders since he was out of it and wasn’t sufficiently aware of his actions.

Also, the fact that the light switch was turned off indicated — to me, at least — that there was a direct intention to kill Assemblyman Cha and/or the old Veterinarian/grandpa.

You see, he was stabbing Assemblyman Cha in the dark when the old man walked in and turned on the lights. If he had been in a trance, the sudden appearance of the old man and the light turning on should have jolted him out of his mental stupor. But then, he stabbed the old man, too. He had the mental cognition to kill the witness, leave the knife in the old man’s hand and frame the old man for a crime that he committed.

Not only that, he turned off the lights as he left the room.

Moreover, there were only six people at the farm when the meteor struck.

    1. Our heroine, YeBun
    2. Farmer KwangShik – he’s dead.
    3. Assemblyman Cha – he’s dead.
    4. His assistant – Unless his psychic power is the ability to run fast between two places like The Flash, he couldn’t have killed the coffeeshop worker because he was campaigning with Assemblyman Cha that evening.
    5. Seonwoo – he’s dead.
    6. The Shaman

Anyway, if it isn’t the shaman, I hope this screenwriter doesn’t pull a rabbit out of the hat and introduce a last-minute character.

  4. I have only watched until episode 12, but I do remember at one point thinking it was the female cop/detective. I don’t recall my specific reasoning aside from deleting her hate comment on the YouTubers page (which admittedly isn’t that suspicious). I’m assuming it’ll be the shaman but if it’s a rabbit, maybe it’ll be the female detective???

  5. @Birdie007,

The female detective was a riot in the last two episodes

    – when she not only lip-read the Seoul detective while he was on the phone, but also finger-read the text he was typing on his phone just by looking at the position of his fingers on the keypad. She did this from a distance.

    – when she disguised herself as a man delivering ox bone soup.

These were acquired skills from following her cheating husband. Lol.

But I don’t think she’s the rabbit because

    a. there’s a height requirement. The rabbit had to be taller than the farmer and shorter than JY.

    b. Also, she had to be able to physically strong enough to fight JY and subdue Seonwoo.

    c. she was out of town with the rest of the ragtag police team when Seonwoo was attacked.

If we’re just basing this on height and physical ability though, I thought YeBun’s best friend would fit the bill. But she was with YeBun, guarding her, when the Farmer was stabbed.

  6. Maybe the shaman has an evil twin brother?

  7. @SnowFlower That’s as plausible as anything else!

The only other person that’s on my radar is the aunt’s ex. Why else show him, appearing in the corners of scenes, unless he has some importance to the story… Their ex-relationship seems to have no bearing on the story since it’s in the past.

  8. @Beth, yes! The aunt’s ex is a plausible possibility too. We don’t know much of his whereabouts, so maybe there will be a big reveal.

  9. I also suspect the aunt’s ex, but I’ll be disappointed by the screenwriter if that’s the direction the story goes. Why? Because there hasn’t been enough development of his character. But I’m wondering if a connection will be revealed between him and Assemblyman Cha’s thuggish former boss, who’s now operating from a higher level of government. I think the police chief may be in his pay, as well.

@Packmule3, there was one more person at the farm on the night of the meteor shower: KwangShik’s father. Assemblyman Cha had come to the farm to try and convince KwangShik’s father to sell for redevelopment, and was rebuffed.

It seems dangerous to stay around Dr. Bong: too many people close to her have been killed. If I were her aunt or bestie, I’d be very worried.
