Hello everyone! I love the pairing of Rowoon and Jo Bo ah. He is not a light weight like Cha Run woo. He has gravitas in spite of his mythological godlike appearance. And Bo ah is everyone who in some scenes is positively radiant. We definitely have all the makings for star crossed lovers. I love how this drama does quiet. I am looking forward to seeing how their love story is resolved in the present.

  10. Kalimera!

If you are worried about Hong Joo don’t be:

  11. Thank you, @Cleopatra.

  12. @Fern,

You are welcome. After all we had the conception dream. The peach aka their daughter is the first daughter in the Jang line after centuries.

    The curse is indeed broken!

  13. I will watch both episodes tonight. I didn’t think I could stand the suspense between them. Yes, I was a bit worried.

  14. Well,

We got a very nice episode with no resolution that left us with suspense in the last 5 minutes… o.O

I am glad you are watching them back to back. It will be safer that way…

  15. @Cleopatra, I am reasonably satisfied, but I didn’t find it an extraordinary finale. I was a bit surprised at some of the screenwriter’s choices. Am I the only one? Is this why there are so few comments?

I would have liked to see Mr Na crushed by one of his own spells backfiring on him. I don’t want him to reincarnate ever. I was half-expecting Na to show up at the council offices and for Mr Gong to floor him with a martial arts move. But I’m also satisfied that the baddies got their just desserts and that Sin Yu would defend Sam Sik.

It is a bit worrying that both Jae-Kyung and the CEO of Haum both wanted to get into politics, but at least the CEO of Haum got busted.

I was scratching my head about the meal scene with Eun Wol. Was it only a reveal about the pregnancy mistake plus an emphasis on how similar SY and HJ’s tastes are? It seemed a bit lamely written somehow. I was also surprised that SY bought that house. Romantic, I guess, but the property and neighbourhood weren’t stellar.

I thought that the spells should have been destroyed, not re-buried, especially the black magic spells. @Welmaris, you were right about Mu Jin hiding the box! Well spotted!

  16. @Fern yes to everything you said. Here are a bunch of random thoughts about this drama:
    1. For a drama that started fairly strong with an interesting premise, the ending and last two episodes were as substantial as the cotton candy that HJ fed to SY.
    2. The writing faltered but I think the editing was worse. The storytelling throughout was jerky and disjointed with odd choices of cutting between scenes.
    3. If I had a magic wand, I would have made it shorter, done away with the secondary beauty and the beast romance of the coworkers, and placed more of the modern day cast in the Joseon past. After seeing Haum in his bathrobe I really thought we would see him as a spoiled third prince or something.
    4. The stalker subplot seems to be in every romantic kdrama lately.
    5. I enjoyed the humor of the first few episodes with SY fighting the love spell. If there is another drama with this trope, I’m in.
    6. Rowoon won me over and I will watch his matchmaking drama when it is released.

  17. @Good Twin, it was like there were two writers – one who started the story and another who took over midway.

The FL never learned her lesson and in the last episodes let herself get kidnapped, almost raped and nearly murdered again, not to mention being soul-tied by that psycho Na. Unless Na was literally holding the little boy hostage, why would she take such a risk? Why was she still inspecting sites on her own when the office had decided that they needed to safely work in teams? Why didn’t one of the security guards stay near HJ in a more hidden way while the other took lunch? It just fell apart.

I think that SY’s father needed more than just an epiphany based on reading his wife’s legal complaint. Therapy anyone? And I didn’t like how SY never stood up to his father for his mother or HJ. I know there are parental respect issues, but he was very good at standing up to almost anyone else without being disrespectful. With his father he was uncharacteristically weak.

Other parts of this were so good. Yes, absolutely, having some of the other characters shown in the same past era would have made for a better story. I felt rather cheated.

  18. Kalimera @Fern,

I didn’t have time to comment yesterday after I watched the show.

To be honest with you, I fast forward the first 15 minutes until they found where Hong Joo was. I wasn’t in a mood to watch the Gardener’s paranoid scenes. The jakkanim dragged a lot the Gardener plot until the last minute, which I dislike, along with the things I have disliked until the beginning.

The finale episode was not bad at all. I enjoyed all their moments together. Yes, the baddies found justice and I was happy that NaYeon was revealed to be a bully and a crime accomplice.

Jae Kyeong in this lifetime chose to be a decent and ethical man. As for the Haum CEO I am glad that he revealed to Na Yeon that he was antagonizing Shin Yu and that’s why they were together. Such a blow was pretty to watch!

Yes, the jakkanim chose to close the story with the pregnancy twist. I believe that we lost something in translation again about that specific scene and their taste.

Regarding the prologue scene, I really like it, because it was revealed that Jang MuJin protected Aeng Cho’s legacy aka the Book of Spells. He buried it outside the Shrine and most likely, when he missed Aeng Cho he took it out to look at it. By doing that MuJin set in motion the story that would unfold 300 years later, with them being reincarnated again and being happy together AFTER the curse was lifted.

To be honest with you, the MVP of the show, for me, is Rowoon himself.

I am very happy and proud of him. I have written in the first threads that Rowoon is indeed handsome and most of the female fans are swooning over him, but for me, he took the right choice to stop singing -for now- from the band and focusing in his acting career.

Rowoon has a comedian side of him that is a natural talent and doesn’t seem to be forced. He is also pretty good at his emotional scenes. Especially the way he handled the first 20 minutes of the finale were awesome. Not to mention his act as MuJin in the snow sequence.

I was listening from people that he cannot act, but they were wrong.

I have spotted him in “Tomorrow” and I knew that he had talent. He is not a pretty face only and we cannot be hard on Idols who are turned actors. It takes time to become better, especially if you didn’t have acting lessons before or didn’t attend a theather drama school.

Rowoon worked pretty hard and here he is shining bright like a diamond.

And a message just for him!
Rowoon, if you ever read this, Brava! Continue to work hard and do what you love. We will be with you along the way!

  19. @Good Twin, yes to everything you wrote, plus why have Hong Joo go again to a work site by herself, despite her boss telling everyone to work in teams; tell both bodyguards to go away (one of them should have stayed around covertly); let herself in for abduction, near-rape and near-murder? I know she was trying to bring Na out into the open, but that was stupid on repeat. πŸ™…β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Another problem I have is with Shin Yu and his father. If SY could be so formidable with others, why couldn’t he stand up for his mother and girlfriend? I understand respect for parents and elders, but there’s a limit and I felt that both men surpassed their boundaries. SY was passive and weak and only his reveal of the supposed pregnancy made it slightly palatable for the father. The father is a habitual mental abuser. I’m not happy about the idea that he finds redemption — becomes a kind husband and new father — so simply. But it’s a drama, right?

@Cleopatra, perhaps you are correct about the translation and the food scene. I thought the main points could have been done better in another way. I agree with you about Rowoon’s acting.

It felt like the screenwriter changed midway during this drama. Compared to the beginning, the ending was weak and did a disservice to the acting. It’s not a drama that I will feel interested to re-watch for that reason.

@Welmaris, good call on SY’s burial of the box! πŸ™Œ

Finally, I approve of the Tiffany rings. πŸ’ Makes up for the handcuff bracelets. Pfffft. πŸ˜†

@packmule3, thank you for the posts. πŸ’πŸͺπŸ’πŸͺπŸ’

,@Cleopatra, I am with you about Rowoon
I think there are idol/actors like him and Lee Junho who are talented actors because, as vocalists they learn to sell their songs and that constitutes acting. They also learn to modulate their voices and express the lyrics through their faces and bodies. Junho has already won an acting award. The same can be said of idol,/actresses like IU. It doesn’t hurt that these talents are good to look at but it’s the work that counts

  21. @Fern,

Your posts went to my spam box and I retrieved them. πŸ™‚ Sorry about that.

  22. I just started watching “Its a good day to be a dog” and to my surprise it seems to be about a family curse that goes back to Joseon times!

  23. I have a problem with the scriptwriter resorting to illogical plot points to make the plot move ahead, in this instance, the bodyguards politely listening to the fl and leaving their posts. They should lose their licenses.

I thought the acting was better in the Joseon era episode. Did they get better direction, especially the fl? I did not like her closed mouth smile/grimace/biting her lips acting.

  24. @packmule3, thank you. It’s not a problem. I sort of re-wrote the one that disappeared. I wish you a fine weekend.

  25. I watched this drama for the lead actors and in the hopes that the writing would improve. Unfortunately, the writing got worse as the drama went on. Then 3/4 of the way through I find out the writer on this drama is the same one who wrote 100 Days My Prince, which explains the poor script. I thought about dropping it, but I stayed on because I wanted to see the leads get their HEA. I think the cast did the best they could with the material they had. There were some sweet moments between the leads, but the mediocre script with all of its problems made this drama a disappointing watch for me. It’s too bad, because this drama had potential. I hope to see Jo Bo Ah and Rowoon in better scripted dramas.

  26. I think that explained why I feel a bit of a drag towards the last episodes. It’s like there isn’t a lot to keep you wanting to watch.
    I’m still at episode 15!

Anyway the Ms Ma and Mr Gong’s cringey saves at the stairs and proposal was giving me laughs and second hand embarrassment. I thought the colour coordination of Hongjo and her colleagues was pretty…yellow, blue and was it pink? The stair save reminded me of a few stair saves like in Extraordinary You and Crash Course in Romance.

  27. Howdy! The comments on the final two episodes are spot on. πŸ‘πŸ»

I won’t add to it anymore except that Rowoon has grown on me. I really think he has grown as an actor. I know he’s already got another drama but I’m not keen on the FL. I’ll see how I go.

He adjusts well with his leading ladies too because most of them are shorter than him. 😁 No offense meant. ✌🏼

I love his tall frame and voice. ☺️

  28. Hi. I’m a bit late on this re DWY but on reading these last comments, I agree πŸ’― with all. I enjoyed the drama, but there was an awful lot of holes in it and again the FL character became very frustrating to watch altho I have no problems with Jo Bo Ah’s performance, needless to add Rowoon was his usual immaculate selfπŸ˜…. And his acting improves all the time. Considering he was pretty good to begin with. The point was made that some of these idols are rookies when they come to the acting scene, but if you take into account the training they receive and dare I say it, endure, before and after debuting and the gigs etc, then they are professional and confident before they ever face a filmmaker. More power to them. Just hope the directors and writers don’t let them down.

@Redser, I think, as I Have said that Jo Bo Ah is meant to be an everywoman. Her character is a low position civil servant (been there, done that)and she was deliberately made plain to nibe with her position in life. Had Rowoon”s character not been subject to the curse he would have given her short shrift during their regular contact befitting their civil service positions. Of course, Rowoon is incredibly handsome and in this drama was initially paired with the attractive but spoiled mayor’s daughter who is the epitome of entitlement. So thank goodness that our heroine had curse connections and could free our hunk of a lawyer eventually from the curse. So right now I am giving live to axhrsed characters

  30. Kalimera my dear @OAL,

I do hope you are okay! How is your husband? Do you have any news to share with us?

When I am watching anyone act, regardless of his / her background I am trying to be patient and give them a try. I did so with Rowoon and Minhyun or Cha Eun Woo.

At the same time, I am not being focused in their visuals. I have read so many people saying about Rowoon’s beauty they like, about Rowoon’s beauty they don’t like and so on.

We are forgetting regarless how someone look that he /she may be overly conscious about himself or herself. I prefer to focus on their acting. On what they are trying to portray, their feelings and so on.

In the end of the day, they are still human like us that they are doing an occupation under the blinks and lights. That doesn’t mean we really know them. We know an idolized persona of them and sometimes fans take liberties and talking about things they really don’t know.

I prefer to see them as human beings who are portraying someone else. You can say this is their armor or maybe not. Anyway, I do hope we bypass the “beauty” and the standards the society has set and see their worth. Basically, being loved for their acting abilities as part of who they really are.

  31. Old American Lady (OAL)

Hi @Cleopatra, Am so happy to hear from you. I hope this finds you well. I agree with your post. It’s the acting that counts. I do think that there are more handsome men who play romantic leads and Rowoon is not just a handsome face. Cha Eun Woo is great to look at but to me, and it’s just my opinion, he is wooden. When we get a combination of good looks and great acting it’s a win. But I also believe that actors with unconventional looks can make us fall in love with them based on excellent acting.

On another note my husband is doing better after surgery. He’ll have another round of chemo as part of the protocols and that should give him more good time. I am thankful for every day I have him and laugh when he teased me for my love of K Dramas
