Thank you @pkml3 for being so ‘on the ball’!! We will stay tuned for feedback on the time change. 🙂
Wow! It was quick. I note times. Else, UTC time is useful, I remember you gave it in the past. With a search, that’s give any country time.
I wonder about one thing: what means PST time?
@WE, PST = Pacific Standard Time. I believe there’s a 3 hour difference between PST and EST in the United States.
I hope that we will all be able to sync our timing for tonights’ Rewatch.
I saw your comment about needing a thread for Castaway Diva Ep 3 and 4. I’ve left a note for @pkml3 on another thread as well.
Moving this thread up on top of the blog so it’s accessible.
@Pm3, thanks for that and the Diva thread. 😉
@WEnchanteur,
@GB is correct. PST (Pacific Standard Time) is the time zone for many of the BODers as they’re Californians. They’re on the Pacific side of the continental USA. They’re on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. They’re 9 hours behind Europe.
I’m on the EST (Eastern Standard Time). It’s the time zone for posters on the eastern side of the country which borders the Atlantic Ocean. We’re 6 hours behind Europe.
Fun fact: 3 states are on the West Coast or Pacific side: California, Oregon, and Washington (Washington STATE is different from capital of United States, Washington, DC).
But there are 14 states on the East Coast or Atlantic side. Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.
Hmmm…I forgot one state there.
Ah! New Hampshire. (Lol. How can I forgot Gov. Chris Sununu’s state!)
The eastern states are small in comparison to California. I think driving north to south of California covers about the same distance as driving from the top of New York state all the way down to North Carolina.
Enough US Geography for the weekend!
Thanks for moving up the thread @pkml3!!
I’m online and checking the thread. We start in 29 minutes time by my PC system clock!
Hi @GB! I’ll add that I am in CST (Central Standard Time) except when traveling West when I would be in MST (Mountain Standard Time). I have no idea how many states are in CST. I would have to look at a map (LOL). Yesterday’s coffee is cooling in my cup (I need it to make the next batch, don’t laugh), today’s is brewing. Looking forward to our watch in a few minutes!
Here in the eastern standard time zone in canada We turn our clocks back tonight. Thanks for reminding me so it won’t be a surprise When I wake up in the morning. I hope to put that extra hour to good use with another hour of sleep. When I was a student studying for my exams I used to really resent that lost hour in the spring. Oops I better get ready for the Show.
Hi GB, MM, SD.
Ready for this episode where things restart for the leads.
Hi Everyone!! We start NOW!!!
Hi @WE and @MM! I read the thread from last week (and rewatched it). I too was reminded of My Love From the Stars, also a favorite, except of course time actually stopped then! Still for both couples, everyone else ceases to be important.
It starts with my fav song of the drama. 🙂
Hi @SD, @MM, @WE, we are into the gap of time episode. BD disappears into the gap of time… now he gets to talk to Jo and finds out that for her time disappeared. For him, his memories got lost in the gap of time.
Manager meet again Kim Boong Do.
First he gets information about the time reset.
Then he’ll use a winning strategy he knows it work with the manager about to be an acceptable boyfriend for mother in law. 🙂
I like how BD’s eyes shift left as he processes that Jo has forgotten him. Since we now know his impressive powers of deduction we know he is figuring out that something must have changed. It’s a nice (and subtle touch).
Love how smart he remains. He just has to think it through quickly and know what’s been happening. The only question is how come HJ is not affected in the same way that Jo and Dong Min are, by the gap of time. She never lost her memories and it was as if another parallel universe HJ was dating Dong Min.
@WE, Yes I like how Show deliberately repeats situations and this time around BD can recycle his knowledge and gain an edge like in selling his sword twice and now impress Jo twice. But he gets new info, HJ has a boyfriend.
Hello everyone, I missed last week’s episode.
Now suddenly HJ also has a smart deduction… she figures that it was BD who called her since she saw him in the crowd. She does the only thing she knows to do ie look for him in the park and their phone booth.
Hi @FF, you’re in time for this week. Please note that next week we start half an hour later!! Those in other countries end up waking up 1 hour earlier for the rewatch otherwise!
Problem for him: she gets a boyfriend.
MMmh, and thinks he’s a dream.
So..?.? he gives up??
Go back home = means go back in time. !!! Oo!
This Show uses a bit of a fake out… we are not given the scene of whether HJ met BD or not. We are delayed from that by a return to the past.
@GB These repeated situations with variation are one of the things. I really enjoy about this show.
She makes MAD her manager by running away. ^^
Too bad she doesn’t have a pair of basket in her bag instead of running with naked foot.
@MM, yes it is cute each time things repeat and there are so many similarities and some differences. Now we see HJ in the cab and we are still not given any clues yet until she smiles.
I really wonder how he always manages to steal clothes that fit him LOL.
@GB, yeaaahhh, writer plays a bit with our nerves with additional obstacle.
Now she gets mad in the taxi. 😀
I like the camera angle when Jo is talking to BD and learns he lives in the upscale neighborhood. Almost breaking the 4th wall, but she looks down and at an angle so not quite, yet we know it is an aside. I suppose this is common, but I noticed it here since it is a rewatch. Clever.
Not only does he remember where to find his clothes, he also has a nice watch!! LOL I wonder how he could remember where he had stashed all these things.
@SD, Jo has the habit of speaking aside to herself when she’s excited about what BD can offer HJ. She’s so transparent, BD is amused.
Now DM finds that he’s lost HJ again.
Hui Jin is about to escape. It’s cute that she actually gets away with it, martini glass in hand LOL.
Finally in the tax again we see the timing… she met BD first before he went back to the past. He actually can remember her address which he hears only once!
@GB, noted on the time change next week.
I was getting mad at the cab driver along with her
I wonder how he could get into her house so easily. He knew where the key was? Did she give him the lock combination? I thought it was only the address he memorised.
Whop. Flashback, he saw her in the phone booth.
Then he meets her. 🙂
It’s why she smiles in the taxi.
The fake out is another example of repetition with variation
So quickly the woman is going to tie him to her apron strings. LOL. She sticks out her tongue at him so often that he imbibes that bad habit just by observing her.
He looks really good sitting there at his desk in the red colored cloak
I note the process: SJJ push the situation to the limit. Make us believe it’s too late, he’s gone. Make us first desesperate, then give us what we were hoping for later as flashback. It’s such unfair process. 🙂
@MM, that’s true about the fake out. It does give us a repetition. Now BD gets to see how DM treats HJ and he gets fed up.
Hi @FF! Honestly, her feet would hurt! running so far barefoot. The
Dong Min is soooo irritating. He treats her like his pet or like a child.
DM is oppa of so much pretty girls.
Well, this guy could just live with a harem.
She’s so rude with the taxi driver. Look how she’s exigeant about getting a pen?!!
It’s because DM is such a bad, unwanted boyfriend that his behaviour gets BD taking action. If not for his misbehaviour, BD would have just left quietly or left things alone.
I just realized that bd Is talking to the audience when he responds to the gisang’s Question About whether he met the woman in the future. His response is to ask her what she thinks?
On previous watches I had always thought that was an odd comment
BD is galvanised into wanting to take responsibility for HJ now that he’s seen how DM is with her.
So, he gives her the talisman after she’s getting capricious. Is it really a good idea?
Who could find this talisman in this drawer. I expect this kind of incident could happen.
@MM, well it’s both. He’s teasing us as well as not responding directly to his retainer. It’s a way to extend suspense.
DB attacks DM with water. ^^
This scene is very silly comedy.
Fortunately BD has the talisman but does not leave. He gets to see the other side of DM in a bad temper. He won’t let her be bullied.
Hi SD, her feet would definitely hurt right?
While Dong Min appears as if every woman would fall for him, he does not seem to have many girlfriends concurrently.
Oh, BD appear in HJ’s house saw her removing her clothes. How can he stay so calm?
Hi @WE. I know the first time I watched this episode, I thought BD had gone back thinking HJ had forgotten him. It does increase the suspense, since obviously the drama is not far enough along for this to be the last time, but what will happen next! And the foreshadowing is good — that little smile in the taxi — and we do not have to wait long after that for the meeting after the gap in time.
Regarding the ‘gap in time’: I don’t think I have seen or read that in other time drama, time-traveling literature. I have to give it some thought. The closest must be the concept of a different timeline, but I don’t remember it being phrased that way. Do you suppose it is a translation issue?
From water spray attack to pillow attack LOL. BD is progressing. Best of all he sticks out his tongue at DM LOL.
Fortunately DM is no fighter.
I also am trying to grasp the concept of the gap in time. But it is also a gap in his memories. Because the memories come back so I am confused.
Ah the repeat bathroom experience with tables turned LOLOL. Love this.
When BD says “I was here first” it covers 2 situations. He had been locked in a shower first before and he was the boyfriend whom HJ loved first.
BD actually comes back into the bathroom to tell DM about scoring a goal, even with the goalkeeper around LOLOL.
The flow of the dialogue between her and DM is oriented so he ask BD to appear. So he comes.
After throwing a pillow. ^^
As a revenge, DM will endure the same prison: trapped in the bathbooth. 🙂
@MM, when the talisman was cut into two, 2 different things happened concurrently. It’s ability to open a gap in time for BD to travel through ended up getting cut so HJ’s time changed… the original timeline had returned to 2 months previously and had progressed to the current time for everyone else except for HJ who only lived the timeline with BD in it.
But at the same time, BD’s memories returned to 2 months previously so it took him some time to regain memories. As the talisman was stitched back together, he began to use words that he’d learned in the modern time… but he could not recall how he knew them.
BD is like a real player now… he says he cannot sleep alone in that place. He puts on a sad face and looks disappointed in HJ. What’s she going to do???
I am a little behind. I am noting two Instances where the dialogue is foreshadowing. When she asks for the talisman, she says she doesn’t want to be left standing while he disappears. The other instance is when she gives him her address when she is in the cab, and he says how we can remember it. We find out later, he wrote it down and she was not able to read it. This screen writer makes for great continuity leave it even with little things.
Heheheh! BD doesn’t let her think too long or suggest what he can do. He takes action first. The great kisses come on now!!!
The tiptoe kiss LOL.
Nice explanation of the time gap @GB!
Or tiptoe-cum-dance kiss!
The END!!! How time flies!
Thanks @SD… just my conjecture, since Show NEVER explains! 🙄😜
He finds some pretexts so she stays for sleeping with him. It becomes more hat here. 🙂
You don’t need to push her so hard far that. The girl have very light mores. He could just say, “hey, have sex now”. 😀
Maybe I have already said that? But the time gap is 2 months, same in W. 😉
HJ is going to be out all night and Jo is going to be so angry!! LOL.
@WE, yes, the time gap is two months. I wonder why SJJ wants to deal with just 2 months of time travel.
OK Everyone, before you go for the week, please remember that we’re starting a half hour later next Saturday!!! I’ll come by to check if any of you are too early. Too bad if you’re late though LOL.
@MM. You are right to point it out. Continuity, logical reuse of previous elements. Not all screenwriters have this habit. It’s heavy in this drama. And I think Castaway diva too. It became a habit in my own way to write, I really like to take things seriously and not wipe them under a rag like if nothing happened. It’s quite normal in story with lot of mysteries. You can let something out in the open, and give proof later that what you put in the story before isn’t a inconsistency.
The dialogue while BD is in the loft and HJ is below is very lovely. It shows both the flirtatious aspect and the deepening relationship (as in when BD asks, ‘Can I take responsibility for you’). We also know that BD now knows how much time HJ has spent keeping track of what is going on (that she knows of his proposed marriage to the prime minister’s beautiful daughter). This dialogue is analogous to the conversation on the plane where HJ takes responsibility for him, but it seems to have more resonance here as their relationship deepens. A very lovely scene.
@SD, but before, to get better this dialogue is serious, we get “of course”…
… the JOSEON CRINGE MUSIC. T T
@SD, yes good point. That time in the airplane they were both in the air and she took responsibility for him. Now he’s up in the loft and she’s got her feet on the ground and he’s taking responsibility for her. To prove his words, he does not run off with the talisman but stays to see what DM will do. I loved that he stayed to protect her.
@WE, that Joseon music is such a good marker of their growing relationship and a hallmark of this Show! I like it. Heheheheh!
I just watched that scene and I was thinking how lovely there connection was. I was also having fun anticipating when the pillow would be flying from the loft.
I think this aspect of how this drama is written is one of the things that makes it
so great to rewatch.
I missed boong do sticking out his tongue on previous watches.
@MM, you’ll really benefit from a lot of rewatching! As long as you have time, it’s really rewarding to rewatch and analyse some shows.
@MM, I agree. We don’t get so much of the serious dialogue between BD and HJ that it becomes too much, just a few key scenes: the one in the plane, the one after she got the car (and circles around him), this one, probably others I am not thinking of now. And all are lightened with humor. But they make the rewatch a pleasure.
So @WE, are you running off to watch Castaway Diva or will you wait for subs tomorrow? You get the French subs?
@GB, I wait mostly for the raw video.
About subtitles, I get them more quickly for this drama. 😉
I quit this thread and wish you all a good week. I’ll come back later on Diva thread, but not the ep 3-4, as long as I didn’t watched ep3 of course. 😉
@WE, in Korea, CDiva would have finished airing but it seems to take longer for me now to get the raw and the subbed show. At one time I used to watch some of the raw if I could get a free access to a channel.
Bye everyone!! See you next week, a half hour later!!!
Good-bye all. Will see you next week. As always, a pleasure!
Take care @SD! Thanks everyone for a great party!
Good bye everyone. I had to rush off for a few minutes but now I am back. See some of you over in the castaway diva thread later today
@GB There are some dramas. I become quickly bored with on a rewatch. There are others that are even better than the first re watch. This show is better with each rewatch.
@MM, yes, we get more out of the more thoughtful, well produced dramas which have lots of layers to peel back, and hints, Easter Eggs and twists to decipher or discover. SJJ dramas are great for rewatches!
