  1. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Thanks @pkml3.

I’ll be online for the Rewatch, otherwise dramas are taking 5th or 6th place for me now.

  2. I hope things will get better and settle down on your end, @GB. Prayers and blessings for you this week. –pm3

  3. Getting set up.

    I have been watching a
2016 drama called ‘good thieves”on viki starring Ji Hyun Woo. It is like a makjong crossed with Healer, Gaksital, and City Hunter. I am finding it engaging, but 50 episodes really is too much.

    Here’s to QIHM watch today,

  4. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thank you very much @pkml3, your prayers are much appreciated. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜‡

  5. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @MM! How are you coping with the many, many shows you’re juggling every day?

    We start in 14 minutes!

  6. Hello @GB and @MM. Coffee is at the ready.

  7. Hi GB and MM.

  8. Hi @WE!

  9. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi there @SD! I could do with some coffee myself!!! โ˜•โ˜•๐Ÿฅฑ๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ˜ช๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿคง๐Ÿคซ๐Ÿ˜…

  10. Hi SD.

  11. Wrapped in the covers and breakfast after sex trope With cute variation. She holds her own against his Teasing.

  12. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @WE! All in good time.

  13. @GB, awf, I was sick last days. Sleeping most of time.

  14. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Okay everyone, we start NOW!!!

  15. Oh so sorry @WE!

  16. So here, it’s sure: she slepp with him and they had sex tonight, right?

  17. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, sorry to hear that you were sick. I’m trying to not get very sick. Getting chills and body ache but trying to sleep it off.

And we see HJ has had a good night’s sleep!!! LOL Is he there or gone???

  18. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Show leaves it deliberately unconfirmed. They must have shared a bed, but more than that is up to viewers’ imagination.

His writing in Chinese script befuddles her and she is pettily angry.

  19. Clever product placement

  20. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM, what product was in PPL?

She’s so petty. He makes her feel stupid so she wants to make him feel stupid too!

  21. I liked her handy character ap. I would have reacted the same way (and have), try to figure it all out and then just give up, LOL.

  22. @GB, oh, you too have illness?! Sorry, I hope you get better. Chills, it’s fever. Drink water.

He sold the sword for a better price.

  23. Her coming out Of the bedroom. wrapped in the duvet is very similar to a scene from “lovers” Where they definitely had sex and there was no guessing about it.

  24. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, I use Google Lens with a translation function for non-romanised script to at least get an idea about what is printed on merchandise.

  25. The carre

  26. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, he learns fast… the bad habits like sticking out his tongue and selling his sword again for a higher price LOL.

I’m trying to prevent the fever and true-blue flu!!! Also have been visiting someone in hospital everyday is taking a toll.

  27. @GB, I’m going to have to look into that! I haven’t been to Japan in a very long time (pre-COVID) and nowhere else. I know the easy stuff (Mountain, River, etc.) which was always enough to ride the subway, but that’s it. My eldest son introduced me to Duolingo which I have used to brush up on hirogana and learn katakana, but have not gotten to the characters yet. And now I am learning the Hangul using the same ap.

Take care of yourself! Lemon tea with honey also good for the chills. And a nice warm duvet…

  28. Good morning, all. Will be living midpoint to view Veterans Day parade๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. @GB Sorry, you are having lots on your your plate right now and will keep you in my prayers.

  29. The assistant trapped herself by saying she would be ok with the relationship.

Now she’s showing how incompetent she’s at cooking.
I find it strange to put that in the micro-wavewith a plastic cover.. could melt.

  30. Once again dong min wants to kill off the queen! It gets funnier every time.

  31. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

We get a 3 way split screen now and then to see all the expressions and concurrent happenings.

Hah! BD does not tell her that she spelt curry wrong (yet). She tries to be so smart but all she can do is pour curry over rice and microwave it.

  32. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @SD! I was sleeping under a duvet of sorts just now, and afraid that I’d miss our start time of the Rewatch!

  33. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @LL, thanks! You got it right. Too much on the plate!!

Okay, enjoy what time you can with us!

  34. Ddong min says fusion is in right now. To support his argument to kill off the queen

  35. Good morning @LL!

  36. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, she has to use microwave-safe plastic or it could poison the food!!!

Now we come to the REPEATED scene LOL, the one where DM wants the queen to be killed off and wants the concubine to buy him a drink. Quite funny!

  37. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The funniest part of the repeat is that the director walks off both times and DM didn’t even know he was speaking to nobody. LOL.

  38. I like the little ‘commercial’ of Curry Rice (the holiday food!, so special!) And the upbeat music to go with it.

  39. Thank you for pointing that out. I had missed that

  40. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Heheheh! he wants to give her a ride after just learning how that morning, and says that if they fall down they each take care of only themselves.

She notes that it’s true he’s a fast learner. She can list the kind of work he can do to live in the modern times. He’s more or less gotten ideas of what to do to take responsibility over her.

  41. Hi LL.

@SD, yeah warm duvet. I don’t know if it’s the best for fever, but I do that, I’m too cold. Need hot and drink a lot. Could eat nothing. I fall aslepp 10 minutes, then 5 minutes later, again, and like that all day and night. I can do nothing and weak, even walking is difficult, I fell like my body is one ton. Two days later I wake up and with a lot of sweat. Then I know I’m getting better.

  42. Hello everyone, I am late but I will watch slowly while enjoying your comments.

  43. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

We next find out that although he is attached to HJ he is also afraid to lose the talisman and his way to return to his life.

HJ tests him. He takes back the talisman.

  44. An aside: does anyone know why the word ‘three’ is the same in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese? None of the rest of the counting is the same. Cha makes sense, but three?

  45. They meet the barrier to their relationship at the train crossing.

  46. I don’t have an answer for that. I have noted other words that are similar In two or three of the asian Languages of drama. I think I am remembering correctly. That kim sam soon was the third son or something like that?

  47. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Sounds like a bad flu @WE!!! I was a bit like that during Covid but not too bad.

Now just as BD shows that he does not want to lose the talisman and HJ is disappointed in him, she has to go to the other guy … the boyfriend.

Back to the past and we see that assassin is spying on the gisaeng. Tension rises a bit.

  48. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @FF! We don’t have daylight savings but you’re half an hour late!!! LOLOL.

  49. The right hand man. He’s good at fighting and smart. He’s even more dangerous than the main villain. And he’s not a coward. I don’t think BD can win a duel with word facing him.

  50. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM, yes that’s right… the barrier came down for the train to travel past but they had a barrier over his time travel to the future. In the end they had to wait for 2 trains to past but she had to go visit the boyfriend instead of spend time with him. Passing trains, lost opportunities?

  51. Hi @FF!

  52. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Each time HJ goes to that hospital room, something happens. When concubine came with flowers HJ was hit in the face with them. Now HJ comes with flowers and is hit in the face with water! LOL

DM is so childish and petty too!!!

  53. The SML back in hospital, take revenge with shooting water at her. How petty.

  54. Because of actor whims the director will have trouble and shoot scenes separatly.

  55. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The boyfriend is having a tantrum like a kid. To him the queen is unfaithful so the show is in jeopardy now. Tension rising for HJ.

  56. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

HJ starts to call BD but he’s not home. More tension for a while.

  57. She imagines he’s with gisaeng when he was visiting bouddhist temple. T T
I wonder if these two ones have a chance on the long run.

  58. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Do we find out why he went off early that morning but won’t admit it? I forget.

Now HJ is scared he’s the one who’s unfaithful although DM calls her unfaithful. So ironical!!!

  59. + she makes a really bad joke: burning the talisman. T T

  60. The scenes are the bicycle are very sweet, very romantic and (fortunately) not too long and ends on a bit of a melancholy note; the romance is not forever, BD does really want to go back to his own time and is angry with her (for the first time, even though he could have been irritated with her many times before that). Surprisingly, very few dramas show such a sweet romantic episode, just maybe the first kiss, or the first date (or W, the bicycle ride across the dike); or maybe I am misremembering (LOL)

  61. Oh not W, Dr. Stranger, my bad.

  62. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, yes her idea of a joke was too serious an issue. I feel she was also testing if he wanted to be with her more than with his own time … so it may have been half serious.

  63. It’s said otherly but it’s a marriage proposal.

  64. Hi @SD, @GB least expected to be late yet I am.

So much drama making instant curry and BD’s skeptical expression.

Dong Min trying to kill the Queen again and demanded Jang Hui Bin actress to buy him drink again. His character doesn’t change.

  65. I think the talisman represents more than just BD’s time travel. It also represents their good faith with one another. BD in initially entrusting it to HJ that she might feel at ease that he would stay awhile; HJ in returning it so that he could leave when he wanted even though it would cause her pain.

  66. Scene where DM aggressively and childishly squirts HJ several times, etc. shows again how he is not boyfriend material but is all about his bruised ego. Whereas BD states later that being a boyfriend means โ€œalways being by your sideโ€ and not buying HJ a car, etc. Got to give credit to BD, he is truly a fast learner! Actor does great job of conveying earnestness and purity of BDโ€™s feelings for HJ.

  67. @SD: there is also a cycle scene with pink sweats in W. But it’s an imaginary scene. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  68. The idea to leave his era: anyway he disapeared from historical books, like it was the only solution.

  69. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, that’s what makes it so romantic. He’s giving her all his money and saying that she can spend it all on helping him stay with her for the long term.

He has a pretty good grip on the fact that she’s easily bullied and that DM would bully her and that if he went with her to see him, he’d get even sicker (pretend more/bully more). She won’t admit that he’s right. She had been bullied.

  70. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, that’s correct. The talisman was also a sign of their good faith in each other.

  71. The real queen would roll over in her grave, says dong min!

  72. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

They are so connected on the phone… how they stare at each other!

He says that to take responsibility he must stay by her side… instead of spraying her with water, the sky rains down on her so that she can have the excuse to squeeze into their phone booth with him.

  73. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

She still had to make it about her… like she had a good eye for people LOL. Almost as childish as DM who was all about his ego.

  74. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

We see BD’s sightseeing and how he feels he is seeing his real life as his past and the future as his present.

He seems to be able to read modern script. He’s adapted so well that he can easily belong to the future.

  75. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The poor Gisaeng gave the talisman to save her master, not expecting that it would lead him away from her and his entire life.

  76. The scene of the monk and yeowol is so beautifully shot.

  77. Dong Min is such an unprofessional actor. A good actor should be able to set aside his personal feelings about his co-actor to perform his act.

  78. DM is so childish. BD learns to live in this modern world, he learns how to show love to HJ (at least I assume she is his first love). HJ learns to give to BD the freedom to be apart from her. Or perhaps more truly, each of these (BD, HJ) is pure enough of heart (thanks @LL) that they act in the best interest of the one they love, not solely in their own interest. Not DM. He does not learn a thing. Even being rejected for the first time does not cause him any soul searching. He is too shallow a man. He does not have the evil craftiness of Minister MA, but in some ways DM is like him as he thinks only of himself.

  79. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, I agree. DM is all about himself. A male version of the prima donna at times.

  80. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, yes DM is lousy boyfriend material. He had been unfaithful before and dumped HJ but now is taking revenge when he thinks she has dumped him (when in her mind she hadn’t).

There’s a strange flashback to the past when Minister Min Am was alive. And then we come back to the phone booth. Any clue why they wedged in the Minister Min Am scene there?

It will lead into next week’s tension but it’s a strange place to put that scene.

So while trouble is brewing with the assassins hatching more plot against BD, BD is enjoying and interlude with HJ in the phone booth? Is that why the scene is there?

  81. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Suddenly we get HJ’s voiceover about the end. Ominous tones while we see what looks like a happy end to the episode. We are filled with foreboding!!!

  82. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I’ve come to the end. How’s everyone else? It’s suddenly silent!

  83. @GB@FF yes a diva !

The first time I watched this drama. I could not imagine how they would actually end up together. This voice over certainly is a damper To that hope.

  84. The rain came at the right time and allowed DB and HJ to squeeze inside.

    Food for thought:

“Without intending to I learned the whole course of history. Going forward, I have to live day by day according to a preordained course of events. Is this the fate I should conform to? Can a person who knows his destiny truly have a happy life?”

  85. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM, angsty times are coming! We still have Ep 13-16 to go so there needs to be more tension to hook us.

  86. @GB, @WE must have fallen asleep as he did not complain about the cringe music at the telephone booth scene.

  87. Hi @GB. Just trying to catch up. As usual, I got behind.

  88. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, I like that part of the script too. Knowing what will happen will be more stressful than not knowing. Imagine how many decisions we won’t make!!!

  89. Wishing the best of health to all of us! And speedy recovery For everyone who is under the weather.

    See you next week.

  90. @FF, I had trouble to concentrate today. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  91. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL @FF, I guessed @WE’s recovering from illness is still taking its toll on him and yes, he may have dropped off to sleep. I do that too during Rewatch! But I’m okay today. I slept just now.

  92. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    See you next week @MM!

  93. @WE & @GB, I hope you two have some good rest and get well soon!

  94. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @FF. I will definitely put in wholehearted efforts to not be sicker!!! Going back to sleep now.

Thanks everyone for a great party! See you next week!

  95. @GB, I think the flashback to Minister Min An was to set the stage for the horseback riders, and of course to set us up for the next confrontation with BD.

@WE and @GB get lots of rest! Lots of liquids, all that good stuff!

  96. I wish you all a good week.

  97. Regarding an earlier comment about whether the couple( Insert euphemism of your choice). I referred back to a k drama from the two thousands, which was part of the lover’s trilogy by eun sook … We have previously referred to This script writer because of some scenes that are similar in This show and her show tekm. In lovers, There is a scene in the morning where she is wrapped up in the duvet. The same way h j was in this show. In the time they spend together The morning after, in both shows, the way they interact is a commentary on their developing relationship.

  98. I’m watching “Live Up to Your Name”:
    https://mydramalist.com/23753-live-up-to-your-name-dr.-heo
I was expecting a straight time travel story, but no, there are also back and forth. For now, nothing as complex as time modifications like in Queen and I.
However, the drama is damn good. I look at the writer: the one who made “Winter sonata”. Yeah, 2002, the drama that launched the Hallyu.

Some similarity with Queen and I:
    – What trigger the time travel is very close.
    – The Prime minister of Queen and I is there too!! Maybe not so evil. And we find him in a prison too, wondering about time secret. lol.

  99. “Live up to your name” is one of my favourite dramas. It has time travel back and forth, evil deeds in both timelines, romance, humour, good cast, and is thought provoking re: Eastern and Western medicine. My gratitude for today’s advances in medicine multiplied after watching this drama. It was relatively straight forward to follow, as I recall.

  100. Hi @WE and @MM. I was just checking this post before tomorrow’s. I watched ‘Live up to your name’ early on when I had just started watching Korean dramas. I even attempted a self-rewatch (lol), but I found the male character too annoying the second time around. I had not realized though that there was any connection with the Queen and I. I might have to try that rewatch again!

    See you tomorrow.

  101. I really enjoyed Kim Nam Gil in this role. His eccentricities and how the music matched to that was fun. He was an odd one.

Both the writer and director have many good dramas to their names.

There are similarities in terms of the time travel and romance to QIHM. I enjoyed the medical themes.

  102. @ WE How is your “Live Up to Your Name” watch going?

I did not realize until more recently that the expression live up to your name means to strive to be the person you will be proud of.
