Happy Thanksgiving!
“There is a Place”
by Liam Lawton
There’s a time for remembering, a time to recall
The trials and the triumphs, the fears and the falls.
There’s a time to be grateful for the moments so blest:
The jewels of our memory where love is our guest.
There is gold that is gleaming in a past we once knew:
In our tears and our laughter, ’twas love brought us through.
There’s a road we have travelled where sunlight has kissed,
That carries us onwards when loved ones are missed.
There is treasure in our fields. There is treasure in our skies.
There is treasure in our dreaming from the soul to the eye;
For wherever we gather in the light of God’s grace,
And for all whom we remember, there will ever be a place.
There’s a promise of God that is written in the stars
For all who may travel, no matter how far.
God will be your companion, each journey you make
In the shadow of loved ones, to lighten your way.
In the quiet of the evening, at the close of the day,
We will rest on the journey. To the Lord we shall pray.
May we thank God for blessings, for the moments we’ve shared.
As we seek for tomorrow, close by us you’ll stay.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families.
Thank you Queen Bee for all the wonderful things you do for us all @packmule.
Thank you all for keeping all of us entertained with your thoughts and discussion.
Kalimera! Happy Thanksgiving @Packmule3 and to all my friends who celebrate it!
I am grateful for each one of you! Let us enjoy our interactions!
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it. (Belatedly to any Canadians out there.) Thank you for the poem, @packmule3. It says it all.
If we travelled to my aunt’s house (alternate years), we would sing “Over the River and Through the Woods” in the car. We had to cross the Des Plaines river and pass through the woods on either side of it. The song’s idea of being bundled up in a sleigh travelling through snowy woods was so appealing, especially with relatives and a big meal waiting at the other end.
Lovely! Thank you for sharing @Packmule3.
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate.
I am very thankful for this community.
Aloha! 👋🏻
Happy Thanksgiving to you Queen, your family and to everyone who will celebrate it.
I will celebrate it for the first time ever by attending mass at 8am here in Waikiki then lunch with my friend’s family and Luau in the evening.
I am forever grateful and thankful. 🙏🏼
My heart is filled with appreciation for God’s gifts, overflowing in abundance. In each new day, the opportunities, the hits and misses, the good and sad, the hope regardless. I am definitely thankful for this community and this blog. Many thanks to @pkml3 and all friends here for just being.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for family and friends, and also for intelligent discussions about dramas!
Happy Happy Thanksgiving! @packmule3 – beautiful poem. @Fern I love the over the river song – so evocative of a time and place. My family has a Thanksgiving theme song that has its origins in the midwest and doesn’t seem well known on the west coast. It is the equivalent of a family secret handshake. Wishing everyone a happy day filled with warmth and love.
@Good Twin, being from the Illinois, I wonder if I might have heard that song?
The Over the River song/poem fit in so well with a book I loved: “Little House in the Big Woods” written about early settlers in Wisconsin by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I re-read it between Thanksgiving and Christmas for years.
@Fern – my favorite books when I was young. Your comment reminded me that I have her biography Prairie Fires in my queue to read. The not so secret song refers to gobbles and fat turkeys sung to the tune of Happier Together. Do you know it?
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
Happy thanksgiving! I hope for limitless warm, buttered rolls and green bean bundles for all and claim to the hambone to make soup!
Thankful for you all and for this space to read and learn.
I am grateful for @packmule3 and the wonderful contributors to BOD. You bring neverending joy through good times and bad, along with challenging discussions of our current and past dramas. To me this place offers needed distractions from family health issues and always good humor. In my imagination, BOD can be represented by the cornucopia, a symbol of plenty that helps to feed all of our forms of hunger. To those who celebrate Thanksgiving and the various harvest festivals throughout the year, may you know nothing but joy and plenty
And may you all have good health and happiness.
Happy thanksgiving @PM3 and our US BOD’ers. There’s always something to be thankful for. I’m currently in my home country to commentate my mom’s 1 year death anniversary. We are thankful for our loved ones, living and those who have passed. And for friendships and communities like this. Cheers!
*I’m a bit JOMO on Castaway Diva as I was traveling, will catch up soon. Love and hugs!
@Janey, condolences. I hope that your memorial visit can be full of great memories of your mother and much shared love.
@Good Twin, it may have been after my time there. I don’t know Happier Together either. I googled it and I only get the Turtle’s ‘Happy Together’ from the ’60s which I do know. 😅 It’s still a secret for me. 🤫
Happy Thanksgiving BOD’ers!
To @packmule3 and those who write extraordinary comments here, you truly made my k-dramas and some cdramas viewing experience truly meanigful. One day, I hope to write a bit like you guys do.
@Fern – I appreciate the effort and apologize for being vague. The lyrics are Gobble gobble gobble fat turkey fat turkey. Gobble gobble gobble fat turkeys are we. The lyrics vary from that point. This was my midwestern father’s contribution to the thanksgiving festivities and lives on. He’d make sure any guests learned it at thanksgiving table. I’d link to a YouTube video but they’re all of people’s children singing – not a bunch of middle aged folks like in my family. 😂
@Janey, please accept my condolences on your mother’s passing a year ago. I hope the memorial you’re attending this year is beautiful and filled with heartwarming memories.
My husband’s 70th birthday fell on Thanksgiving this year, and to celebrate his landmark year he chose to travel to Costa Rica. We had a buffet dinner last night after lounging in hot springs fed by the waters of Arenal Volcano. My favorite dish in the buffet was pumpkin soup: deliciously savory. And there were crunchy strips of fried plantains to dip in the soup. Yum!
@Good Twin, those lyrics just bring a smile to my face. May it continue to spread.
I hope you and all other posters who celebrate had a great day.
Thank you @Fern and @Welmaris. It was good to be with family especially my sisters during this time, realizing that our mom lives in each of us.
Happy birthday to your hubby, @Welmaris. enjoy Costa Rica! Pura Vida!
@Janey,
My condolences about your mother, even though it’s a bit late from our part…
I do hope you are okay!
