Thanks @pkml3!! I’m behind in all drama watching and reading the long list of comments!!! However I’m all set to enjoy the rewatch! 🙂
Are you doing better, @GB?
We miss you and your absence is greatly felt.
Prayers. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Good morning everyone! The weekends are so exciting and I do not even have to leave the house.
Such kind words, @pkml3. You warm my heart. It is rather my mother-in-law and other family members that are on my mind. I have been praying harder than I’ve ever prayed. MIL is in hospital and not likely to be able to recover enough to take care of herself at all. We need to see if rehabilitation can help, but this is her 3rd or 4th time and we can see the difference.
Your prayers are greatly appreciated. I was at the same time preparing for and running a formation that took up all the rest of my energy and attention. JOMO-ing dramas was necessary and a great break. 😆 Now that the formation is over for a while, I’ll be trying to watch a bit, in between the volunteer work and paid work and everything in between.
I truly appreciate your concern and thoughts for me. God bless you @pkml3!
Hi! I was up to date for dramas. But for some reason, I’m hooked on a small project about writing an episode 1 of a kdrama I called: “Bookstore where you rent my heart”. Currently at 40 minutes, should be a one hour episode or a bit more. It’s a way to relax from my main project (more difficult to do). So, of course, I’m running out of time.
Hi GB. I wish you good fortune for your family.
See you in the next half-hour for the rewatch. 😉
@GB I feel for you.
I posted two follow up comments on the episode thirteen rewatch thread. Not sure if people will get those comments or whether I should post them here?
Hi @GB, @WE, @MM. I will join you late today or very late as my youngest plans to head back home after the Thanksgiving holiday at the time of the rewatch. If he leaves early, I will join you. Otherwise, I will watch later and comment a little.
@WE, I am excited to hear that you are starting a new screen writing project. I have learned a lot from you reading about the process you go through and what you have to think about to make it work.
@GB, I will add my prayers. I had to go through a very prolonged process of declining health and mental acuity with both parents. It is very difficult to watch and know you cannot do anything but try to meet them at their current level. And I tried for far too long to fix things: find the root cause, try a new medication, etc. It is exhausting and eventually you have to come to accept what you cannot change.
For those of you who have not been able to find a good quality version of this drama I just changed my v p n To Singapore and googled Tubi And queen and I and I seem to be able to find it. I say seemed because I also did have it up in my automatic connection. Good luck.
@MM I went back and reread the end of last week’s rewatch. I had to search through my comments to figure out what you were responding too with respect to life and death (LOL). I often forget from week to week.
Nice thought about BD. I agree it is more of a hero’s arc for him, the search for life’s meaning as it were and being forced by something beyond his control and initially understanding to change from caring for the Queen in his time to caring for the ‘Queen’ in modern times.
I think for HJ her arc is more of an internal one. She deepens, as it were. We see her grieve more than once, we see here seek beyond the script she reads to find the real history and twice we see her wrestle with what everyone is telling her versus what she knows (the second time is to come). She comes more fully into her true self.
Thanks @Monmor… heheheh! Singapore is a good place to be to get dramas.
@WE, @MM, @SD, thank you for thinking of me and understanding the challenging situation that does not look like it will end any time soon. All your thoughts and prayers are deeply appreciated. 🙂
@SD, that’s a good point. I had difficulty figuring out in what way HJ had any growth. Hers was more subtle. She seems later to be less cavalier in her attitude and she became more mature.
Seems like we start just about NOW!!!
Hi GB, SD, MM!
Damn it, joseon cringe music right from the start. LOL
My son just got up, I will start with you all and drop off when he finally makes it up stairs (LOL).
Hi @WE… here we go… until way, way later, we do not get to see the flashback that explains what’s happening. SJJ really pushes the button on her viewers by letting us think the worst for ages.
But at least it’s resolved in one episode.
Enjoy the music @WE!!!
Everyone is shocked by the blood… back in the future and in the past. His wounds are still bleeding and he is out to get shot again. *sigh*
Take care @SD!!
Poor Yoon Wol tried to stop him leaving before but now wants him to leave to save his life. She’s the most unfortunate of characters in this show. So innocent, so good-hearted and so abandoned.
@GB, I’m a bit lost about these Flashback. It looks like the continuation of previous episode? When he says goodbye to the FL and goes in the past?
We do not yet know that the scene we are watching where BD meets the king with the ministers present is before or after he met the king secretly.
Ooh, risky move, he goes to see the king.
It’s crazy I rewatched the drama before the rewatch party, but already forgot things.
@WE, we are being fooled into thinking that the transition from last episode to this one is shown to us fully … we have not been shown the important part, and won’t be shown til almost the end.
@WE… this show is complicated. The back and forth travel, what happens when, the flashbacks that come much later, and the number of times they end up in hospital is a blur to me.
Yoon Wol’s confession of love for BD is really heart breaking. In my admittedly limited experience confessions of love by anyone other than the main character are rarely by truly good characters, or at least by characters as selfless as YW is.
More parralels so much blood in both timelines.
Scene with the king. It is as though b d is implying the king would be stupid and Disloyal to himself if he believes the rumors. The outcome of this strategy Is That the king brings the minister for questioning. The minister has been outfoxed.
The paranoid king trope( Based on a real King as we all know) ! Although in this case he is not really that paranoid we realize eventually
Just as Min Am thinks he has the last laugh (literally) he hears to his horror that BD walked into voluntarily to see the king. His heart drops!!
BD gives him THE look, heh.
Hello everyone, @GB I feel your situation. My mum is also in the hospital now with a fractured spine. 🙁
Hi @FF, oh no!! I’m so sorry to hear this. I hope your mum can recover fully. My prayers will include you and your mum. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
@GB, gosh, yeah. There is a missing moment certainly, because now he’s on the way to be tortured and killed by the king with arrows.
@MM The super smart hero trope… figures out a solution in a few minutes and hatches a plot to save everyone. However it only half succeeded.
Hi FF. Sorry for you mother, it looks serious. Wish you the best, given the difficult situation.
Oh @FF I am so sorry! My father ended up with multiple osteoporosis related spinal fractures. They are so painful!
@WE, the connection between BD and HJ is never explained… only that they love each other or had contact and so what happens to him affects her.
She feels his loss immediately and literally suffers heartbreak.
Damn… I didn’t use the real talisman and is killed with arrow. What looks like a big problem for the villain now. I’ve lost track, but he’s at risk for lying, right?
Thanks @GB, will find ways to manage. If only I have a talisman maybe I could go back to change things abit.
@SD, oh dear. We seem to be somewhat in the same boat over our elderly parents/in-laws.
I enjoyed the acting in the
trial scene. I remember the first time I watched this show. Being utterly confused about this happening at this pountil. I realized it had been a ruse At least in part.
Oh Gosh… she reads history and learn he’s dead shot by arrows… What a twist here. Emotionnal roller coaster.
@FF, I wonder if time travel will cause more trouble than good. We see that even in this show, not all turned out well.
Is this the 3rd or 4th we are in this hospital? HJ was a patient, then Dong Min, then BD… so now it’s the 4th time we see this hospital.
I got sidetracked by the reference by the King to the Chinese generals. Guess I will have to look them up later. I agree, the initial scene with HJ is so confusing – what did I miss? Why is she sobbing? Is it just because he left again? And the King seems to be acting (is he really a bad actor, is it just because he is so paranoid? Why did BD go to the King so directly? Did the soldiers take him there? Why? All very confusing.
It adds to the sense that we do not know the real timeline anymore. The script keeps changing, the sequences in each timeline seem (and are) out of order. Time is out of joint
Is the king in on the ruse Or does he just act
Kindly towards b d after he is shot with the arrows because The king realizes what he has done? I will pay close attention to how this is explained
@WE we join her on the emotional roller coaster but there were subtle hints as to something happening around her in the hospital that we are not shown fully.
She cries in the future as Yoon Wol and the queen mourn in the past over the same BD.
Explosive crying scene.
The King is an experimental man but BD outsmart him. Oh dear they shot so many arrows at him. The King must have regretted his choice.
Thanks @WE, @SD yes I think the pain is excrutiating.
@SD, that’s another good point. Show is making is such that time is out of order for us… introducing the concept that not all will be smooth-sailing which will come to fruition later.
@MM watch carefully towards the end. Show gives NO WARNING that we are watching the past of the past *sigh*.
@GB, All my issues with my parents (and my MIL at the same time) are in the past, in the years just before the pandemic but still fresh in my mind alas; a very trying time.
After wanting HJ ‘killed off’ as the queen and avoiding her on set, DM starts feeling guilty… so is this a growth arc for DM?
@SD, trying times that are not soon to be forgotten.
Looks like a very bad time for the villain.
SLASH – blood splater on next guy face.
@WE, SJJ employs a big COINCIDENCE here ie Jo has to overhear the nurses speaking so that she can relay the message of another person who looked the same as BD who also got shot by arrows… this patient is alive and disappeared so HJ has hope as she hears about this. At least she does not run off to search for him while in hospital. A bit of an improvement?
@MM Timestamp 30:15 is when we see the flashback to the past, before the execution.
I’m behind, just at the trial scene. I remember the first time I was utterly shocked to find that the talisman no longer worked. And obviously the main character cannot die so soon. So much tension and interest is set up with the out of order sequences. Yet it has to be done so well, or it would remain confusing even after the drama ended. Son is up! Good bye for now.
I guess one strike to the head does not exactly behead them. Quite horrible to do this publicly… Difficult to watch scene.
Now we hear BD starting on hatching the plot with the king.
Her emotional pain in the car really said to me that he had died, the first time I watched this show.
@GB, damn, I missed that part. Too focused on both dramas and comments.
Now the flashback scene with the king.
Why does the nurses say that there is another guy who looks like BD?
@GB I really am enjoying the characterization of d m. He genuinely feels badly when he sees her crying and feels guilty. Yes character development.
Bye @SD, see you later.
Complicated moment. I have to rollback. He was REALLY shot by the arrow, but not direct killing, only because the wounds. So, the servant puts the talisman on him and FFFFIIIT, he goes to present time. Intensive surgery.
THEN, he goes again in the past to see the villain decaptitation.
SOOOOO TWISTED.
@WE poor servant brings horse and gives news of Yoon Wol. She knows he is alive but will not see him again.
About h j and her character development. She grows a deep Trusting bond With b d in very challenging circumstances After being betrayed in her previous relationship. This is illustrated in the scene We’re her manager Tells her about the patient who was shot with 3 arrows. And she recalls him saying how he would take responsibility
Ah, now we are told that BD and the King had plotted his shooting together.
@FF, BD only just recovered from the previous arrow wounds in the same hospital. At that time Jo was put down as his guardian. He had left the hospital to check the library and outside the hospital he realised that if he could be found near the hospital when injured, he had a chance of surviving.
Now he really and truly ended up with arrow wounds and got himself placed near the hospital by his servant (with the talisman on him) so that he would get to modern times and then be saved by modern medicine.
When I think about romance in kdrama. I always think: What could be BETTER romance but with a guy from Joseon??!
Just the last drama I watched “Deserving of the name” was too a guy from Joseon.
Aahaha. I’m happy to have used also a guy from Joseon in my story. Only problem: he’s not a gentleman, I think I’ve lost the feeling needed. lol.
@WE, yes, SUPER twisted isn’t SJJ?
Now the end… or is it?
@WE Great touch to have b d there for the beheading
They meet again at the end of the episode…
Ah yes @MM, that’s true. She trusts BD to come and go and come and go now after being insecure before. Of course she had a reason to fear, because she knew he’d be killed if he returned to the king.
@GB, yeah just reach the part where BD appeared next to the ambulance. Haha the writer just have to make us ask so many questions along the way and revealing the answers to us later.
@FF, yes… they had plotted. So the king had trusted him as a friend and got him killed honourably, as requested.
We know that at Ep 14, this sweet hug scene cannot be the end.
He says “it’s the end”.
What a joke. At episode 14 ??!
@WE… that’s the twist. As far as BD knows, he thinks he’s outsmarted the talisman and has created a good ending for his past life. However …
Then, it’s also an interesting way to conclude an episode. No cliffhanger but the feeling of a story ended. Indeed, for the next trick SJJ prepare, it’s good to have this “all ends in the good way” feeling.
@WE, SJJ gives us a sense of relief but its going to be a false sense next week!!!
I did not really understand the details of this On previous watches. I am at the scene where he asks the king to kill him. My thought is that he is genuinely asking the king to kill him- He is sacrificing himself.
@MM, aaah, kdrama heros (even more from Joseon) often act crazy like that.
It does seems like eveything has been taken care of, the villain is dead and BD is also dead in Joseon time. I wanted to believe that everything was done and BD can stay with HJ now.
The king’s a little smile after the arrow shooting Makes me Think the whole thing was plotted out ahead of time by both of them. B d really was risking his life. Now I understand how he said he would die. But how much he wanted to live, when he met the king in the library.
I am at the hospital scene. Love the way that the manager is complaining loudly until HJ starts to cry, then hops out of bed like nothing is wrong. Yoo In Na’s acting is quite good in this scene; the slow build up of tears and silent grieving, then the full blown grief for BD, very believable, very well done. And the manager and nurse silent around her, not knowing what to do.
See you all next week, hopefully.
His leave taking from the past timeline is so sad. The image of water-rebirth.
What a great view of his back and such a tender scene to end the episode.
What a wonderful episode!
And we will go through all those emotions at least one more time in this drama.
And the three women, the Queen herself, HJ and YW; each grieving for BD in their own way. I didn’t realize the first watch through that we were seeing each grief, as though amplifying the loss.
Do we see the servannt putting the talisman back on him Or is it only implied?
@MM, I didn’t pay close attention to DM’s reaction to HJ’s tears. But yes, even he has grown a bit, if only to the level of a usual second male lead instead of his over-the-top self-centeredness. Still, although short, it is a nice scene.
@MM, we see the servant put the talisman on him and then he went ‘poof’!
@SD, so even DM grows a little. Well good for him!
Bye everyone, see you next week!
If we look closely, I think just about everyone grows in this episode.
I will need to rewatch to find the scene where the servant puts the talis man on him. I sped watch because I was behind. So I should rewatch the end part just for the enjoyment and pleasure of it.
I’ve to go too. Bye Bye, see you soon.
