The thread is open.
The synopsis from Viki is too long but this is the gist of it.
The female lead is a senior in college. She composes and creates music. Her specialty seems to be historical (or traditional? classical?) music genre. Her idol is a “voice dubbing god.” She wishes to collaborate with him one day.
The male lead is her crush, the voice dubbing master. Obviously.
She can recognize his voice from anywhere.
Episodes: 33
Where to watch it: On Viki
But they aren’t up yet, at least, not in the US.
@GB, where can you watch this?
Enjoy the show.
Thanks, @packmule3. I had the same question – it’s not up on Viki or Netflix in the UK.
@GB, I’ll open up more threads as you go along. Didn’t want to open 5 (+ 1 for the last 3 episodes) all in one go or they’ll push down the other threads on the blog. 🙂
@Fern,
Did you already ask your family to gift you with the Viki subscription for Christmas? Tell them it’s gift that keeps on giving. You’ll actually use it everyday unlike a new kitchen appliance or new purse. 🙂
Thank you thank you. I knew there was such a show coming but I couldn’t remember the title and hadn’t been able to figure out when it would be.
Hi @Packmule3, @GB and @Fern,
I am watching it on Youtube. A little irritating with ad breaks but still fun.
Hi @Monmor!
Yes, this is one for TJC fans!
Thank you @pPackmule3
Here is a YouTube link:
Yay!!! Thanks so much @pkml3! 💐💐
Yes, I knew you’d probably put up the threads intermittently. I’m guessing that we get a couple of episodes a day, (at least now?) since there are 6 episodes out by 2 Dec, when the first one aired on 30th Nov.
Wish you had time to join us here!
Hi @Kate, @Fern, @MM! So happy to see you here. I’ll start watching after the Rewatch Party tonight. I’m soooo excited!!!
🤪🤭🤫😇
Sites where you may be able to watch this… Perhaps Viki.
I believe you’ll need a VPN for these others: Daily Motion, Dramacool, Kissasian, WE TV. I’m usually on Dramanice.
It is on viki here in canada Starting tomorrow.
All the episodes are on Youtube, @Kate?
@Fern,
That’s my another “justification” for the cost of Viki. Viki membership is $120 a year for premium or $72 for regular. It’s cheaper than the $168 Youtube membership (I only signed up because I have no time and patience for the ad breaks) AND it gets used more often than Youtube.
My other justification is my husband and I actually save money since we don’t go out for date nights at the movie theaters anymore. Movie tickets are $18 and when you add the cost of drinks, popcorn, nachos, etc., one movie date night is more expensive than a whole year of Viki membership.
I remember having a conversation with a group of women about what we thought of netflix when it was origently brought out. Pretty funny to think we were somewhat sceptical. We should have raced to buy shares.
I never regretted getting Viki. I have Netflix and Prime Disney in the US is very limited and for my purposes, not worth it. You need Hulu for Korean content here. I have more than enough streaming services to fill up my time so no Hulu. Apparently Disney may be subsuming Hulu here. I’ll wait and see. As it is I’ll have to risk FOMO because I have a life and am dealing with more important issues(eg, family health). There is a plethora of riches to be had so if I can’t watch I have BOD commentary to read to get what I’m missing and the comments here are worth their weight in choose your previous metal.
Hi @Packmule3,
Three are up at the moment on Youtube.
You can pay to get more episodes here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCteBLoijWzlVFSR5BBtS_2Q
Then it’s on Viki in 2 days.
Hi all. @GB, it looks like it is up on Monday on Viki here in the US. I will probably wait until then to start. Although if I get curious before then, I might try the ad-ridden Youtube link — Thanks @Kate.
I am liking this show so far. I am in episode four and i’m really feeling the attraction between the couple. I have not seen either of them I don’t think in a previous show. I wonder if either of them is being dubbed. His voice is wonderful. And I really enjoy the style of the songs they have sung.
Hi @MM, glad you like it!! I’m just rewatching Ep 1 prior to commenting on it.
To begin with I note: rrom the Opening Credits it is certain that our couple will be together with many sweet moments and the first 6 episodes certain serve up positive vibes and sweetness in floods, but like the Title Song says, the Romance will happen slowly…. Sloooooowly. LOL.
I think that’s fine because the only conflict that I can see is that the OTP have not realised if they’ve met yet but they seem to be ‘dating’ over recipes, and in love with each other’s voice. So we wait to see how they will officially meet and the scales fall from their eyes as they realise who the other person is. A bit of a tease.
I’ve got to be out for a few hours. Will be back later to read. 🙂
🥺😢😞
Sadly, this is not on Viki or Netflix in the UK, so I’ll keep watching it on YouTube. I’ve seen the first 4 episodes now and am re-watching the first episode to get the relationships with the FL’s friends clear.
@GB, no kidding about the ssslllloooooowwwllllyyy. The FL seems nearly mute whilst on the phone sometimes. I get that she is shy in front of her crush, but being silent on phone calls seems to border on bad manners.
I also couldn’t understand why, (Ep. 1, about 18.00) in her first online meeting with the Perfect Voice Studio, she kept leaving to eat. I was thinking – this is like a potential job interview by panel – why can’t you tell your mother it’s important and you will be downstairs in a minute? Perhaps it is something that isn’t easily translated.
I do like their meet/not meet cute. It’s different – just voices and not physical presence coming together accidentally. SSM and MQC seem entranced by each other’s voices. Without visual clues to prompt them, they pass each other unknowingly several times in the first few episodes. I understand why SSM has a crush on MQC’s voice – he is well known, but I wonder about his interest in her? It can’t just be the description of her meal.
Peanut the corgi is pretty darn cute. My corgi was never that calm.
Hi @Fern, I’ve not had time to get back to where I left off rewatching, but I have done a first watch of at least 4 episodes.
My understanding of her situation is this. It was the Lunar New Year family time or the main dinner even. Family was supposed to come first, especially with so many relatives/elders visiting. By rights, she should have been down with the guests instead of up in her room. So she couldn’t give that excuse that she had something more important online.
As you may have noticed, the people in the chat room also were not entirely surprised that Gu Sheng would go offline from time to time, because of the Lunar New Year.
Like you, I like the fact that at this stage they are taken with the voice rather than with looks, although when they saw each other before without knowing who the other was, they both seemed to be favourably impressed. GS also knew that the regular customer at her cousin’s mini-mart was a doctor from the hospital nearby.
I’m actually amazed that a doctor attached to a hospital has the time and energy to be a voice actor on top of everything else. I see other medical dramas where doctors are forever asleep or frazzled in between seeing patients, having meetings/going for seminars, etc. 😂🤔
Ah, the New Years Meal was the second time. I meant the first time, when she dashed out of the family shop to attend the call by 6pm. I completely understood the family party priority on the 2nd meeting.
I was surprised as well that a doctor would have time to do voice acting. I could only surmise that the voice acting is rarely done live and can fit around a schedule. I recently saw an interview on Psick Univ with Ailee, a singer who mainly does OSTs. 22.26 Ailee said the total recording time is between 20 minutes and 4 hours. I was shocked.
Hi @Fern, I saw you writing about getting the LMLMV recipes online in a little cookbook LOL. I doubt you’ll get it unless someone who can translate all the ingredients bothers to put it down or point us to the right name for each dish.
I just realised that you were referring to the first meeting which was not during the Lunar New Year. The reason her mother was insistent was because she had made noodles for GS and wanted her to eat them right away. As you probably know, noodles in soup expand and lose their nice bounce and texture if not eaten immediately.
EPISODE 1
I’m amused by the fact that based on something so slight (and thin) as Qiang Qing Ci’s interest in the name, Shengshengman, his friends immediately weave a romance around QQC with SSM. I gather from their conversations behind QQC’s back, that he so seldom goes online to chat, that he’s always working/sleeping and has no friends of which they do not know, that the minute he shows interest in a stranger, all their curiosity antennae prick up.
This whole episode is about how The Perfect Voice Studio is agog with curiosity over QQC’s interest in SSM, so much so that they agree to work with Xiao Xing and even invite Xiao Xing and SSM/GS to the 10th Anniversary Ceremony, in order to get to know her. So quickly QQC’s friend determine that to get him to come online in their events, they need only mention that SSM would be there. LOL… a lot of opportunities for interaction seem to rest on the curiosity of the friends who are supporting and promoting the ‘blind-voice dating’.
It seems that it was nothing but their voices that attracted each of the OTP to each other, and with the help of friends, the romance will take off from there!
The attractive voice reminds me of how I loved the Demon’s voice in Love Between Fairy and Devil. Dylan Wang was dubbed by a voice actor with such a suitable, authoritative, manly voice that made the character doubly attractive. I can totally believe one can fall in love with the voice.
@GrowingBeautifully, I also understand about the noodles and I’m being fussy, but if it were me and even if my mother had made me a sirloin steak (something we never ever had), I would have begged off for the time it took to complete the call. She is a very obedient daughter, I guess.
The attraction of the name and voice of Shengshengman makes me wonder if there is a previous connection we don’t know about. Could QQC have been familiar with the song Gu Sheng wrote in Middle School – the one her bro was playing in the family store? QQC definitely clocked it, but whether his interest was from that moment or if he recognised it wasn’t clear to me.
I thought he was very patient with her nearly silent phone calls – especially when she wakes him or he is dining. There must be more than a casual attraction on his side.
They have some things in common: good students, music, food, a close group of friends. He seems to be alone in the world while her family is large, close and noisy. Or he is simply not close to his family at all. I wonder if he is keeping his voice vocation a secret from his family as well as from the general public.
@fern @GB I watched the first 4 episodes on YouTube But then I could not find anymore other than eight minute snippets. For some reason vicky is not loading properly this morning,- Hopefully I just need to close some tabs down.
It Was not at all clear how they originally know each other. I am not at all familiar with the chat room culture and have found this confusing in some chinese shows. Although now I have a better idea about what online dating could be. Perhaps he did accidentally end up in a chat room with her and she recognized his voice and he liked her voice. I think though as other posters have wondered, there may be some prior knowledge he has of her.
I was confused at times about whether he was in a hospital on call room, His own home, Or a studio. There are so many other male actors who I do not know- His friends and all her brothers cousins. Likewise with the female friends.
This is how I explained to myself how he could be a doctor and a voice dubber. He has a talent which he may have well Have developed from youth. He studied to become a doctor But continued with voice Dubbing on the side. Do we know what kind of doctor he is? Specialty? Perhaps It is his family’s hospital and he.did not that willingly choose medicine. An old trope that I hope may not be the case Or if it is the case that it does not take up too much screen time.
In the scenes where she is on the phone, I was egging her on with all the conversations starters I could think of. A really simple basic one would have worked. Is she shy or is she just overwhelmed by her feelings for her idol And the low likelihood that this would be happening.
Another similarity in the setup for both characters is that they each have a group of friends
Encouraging them to pursue a relationship.
It is clear from the start They are very attracted to each other and have a number of personality traits and interests that would dovetail well in a relationship.
@fern. AILEE is a favorite singer of mine.
So six episodes on vicki here in canada.
Hello all,
Isn’t this a fun show and I am so glad that @GB arranged a thread for us all.
YES please to a recipe thread! I have ordered aubergines for one of the dishes we saw in Episode One.
My suspicion is that the ML fell in love with the FL as one of her followers listening to her music and singing on her site.
Then he ventured into her Voice Chat room – and talk about a meet-cute moment! If my idol did that to me… But they have both encountered each other beforehand and admired each other’s voice and music.
The ML seems to be a plan with a plan. He has the calmness of the ML in Love 020… who was always a few steps ahead of the shy but feisty FL as he moved their on-line marriage for quests to real life romance.
For me this drama feels like the dramatization of the deliciousness of a typical young woman’s daydream fantasy about her idol/crush coming true.
It is being played out in a slightly fairy tale like way…
He keeps finding her and she keeps finding him and they are both revealing their souls to one another through voice, song and drama.
It is as if he is the prince – so many women desire him – looking (metaphorically) at a walled garden which promises delights and he can hear the maiden singing and rhapsodising about food. She in turn has heard his voice and is entranced etc etc
I am enjoying the delay in their meeting – the music and the creativity in this show is joyful. It does feel a bit like a Hallmark Christmas movie about Christmas Spirit. Everything is so prettily wrapped up.
Lovely colour palette.
A critical point which feeds, nevertheless into the young woman’s fantasy requirement …
Anyone else feel that he is a tad too sexy and self-assured for someone who has never had a girlfriend?
I suspect he has to be this way to make him the young woman’s dream man in this story. She gets to be the nervous ingenue, he is Prince Charming.
This is the pursuit of a sexy player outside of this narrative requirement… methinks
In other words, his pursuit would speak of a man with a LOT of experience ‘chatting up’ (UK expression) women – if it weren’t for the way the story is set up.
…seems to be a *man with a plan*
@kate You are reminding me that I was wondering if individuals have chat rooms or their own channel, so to speak, where they perform and others listen and or join in, events are hosted? I was expecting some live event that she was going to be helping organize. But perhaps it is an online event?
Help! This is beyond my internet grade level! If I ask my children they will frown at me.
@MM @Fern
Yes, @Fern, GS is a docile and compliant daughter. She’s called a foodie, so perhaps she never says no to food?!?!?
@MM I am not familiar with Chat Room culture either, and what I know I learn from dramas LOL. It seems Chat Rooms (under a certain app) have a room number. Just enter the number and one can enter the room. That’s how I believe QQC entered GS’s Chat Room by accident.
Whether he knew anything of her voice previously is still conjecture. I wait for confirmation.
On second watch, I can figure out where QQC is, who his doc friend is and whom his Perfect Voice teammates are.
I gather that the many young men vying to do things for GS are her cousins. She will call of them brothers in Chinese. I’m not sure which might be her brother if she has one.
Yes @MM, you’re probably right about how he can be both a doctor and a voice actor. He did the latter out of interest and stuck with it ever since. I’m impressed that he’d do a dubbing job at 10pm when it would take 2 hours to complete. So he’d only finish around 12 midnight. Perhaps he knew that he had a day-off the day after.
The current hospital he is working at is likely a municipal hospital or one aligned with a university, I’m guessing.
Her shyness on the phone reminded me of my impatience with Zhao Lu Si’s character in Hidden Love. I believe it was to show that the girl had so big a crush on the guy, that she became tongue-tied and silly when confronted with him/his voice. I hope she gains more confidence soon.
Yes, the first episodes have set up the trajectory for the OTP, while also affirming how suitable they are for each other. The total lack of conflict (except for the fact that they didn’t realise that they had met-cute before) was the most obvious thing to me after 3 episodes.
We’ll need more meat to keep this Show together for 33 episodes!!!
@Monmor, I am also finding it a bit difficult to follow all the different virtual meeting places and cultures they inhabit.
Oh the multiple platforms for encounter and creativity in today’s world!!!
I am suddenly reminded, too, of the Shop Around the Corner and the way two people meet via an email chat room and in real life. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. That was also a very pretty show.
Perhaps he is used to flirting. So many women find him desirable. Maybe though he has never had a relationship. Yes, the scene where they are singing together. He does seem overly confident
and flirtatious.
I wonder if some of the conflict might have to do with this aspect of his personality? Time will tell.
Hi @Kate, I really liked that Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks show, (You’ve Got Mail, I think it was). In Sleepless in Seattle it was via a radio chat program.
You said:
Yes, I get this vibe as well. It’s all rather surreal now. Reality has not kicked in yet.
Me too, about delaying their meeting. Their finally getting together will be more delicious!
I do believe this Show was timed to air especially for Christmas. It ends on Christmas Eve!! I also believe it’s meant to be a Chinese version of something like a Hallmark Christmas movie LOL. However, in this Show, they have just celebrated the Lunar New Year… hence I’m not sure which time of the year the series will end.
It’s just so pleasant to be watching a non-stressful Show. I can go to sleep with a smile. 🥱😴😌
@GB – ahhh yes ‘You’ve Got Mail’ – that’s it. (The other title was the 1940s movie it was loosley based on.)
Glad you are getting this slightly surreal vibe too… I am enjoying that feeling of …what ARE we dealing with here?
Aha… interesting re the timing of the show too.
I agree this is lovely show for this time of year and does leave one with a happy glow!
Delurking to join the conversation on this show, because I’m loving it. I subscribed to Tencent because I was too impatient to wait for the eps to drop on Viki 😉 So I’m current through yesterday’s episodes (9 & 10).
This is another drama where I’ve already read the translated novel. The translator had permission from the author of the novel to do the translation and she also provided photos for the recipes. I think it might be possible to find actual recipes for some of the dishes they discuss and eat. I like cooking – I’ve taught myself to cook Thai curries and several Korean and Japanese dishes thanks to great cookbooks and recipe blogs, so I would be happy to lend a hand in compiling a recipe “book” 🙂
If anyone wants to read the novel, you can find it here: https://hui3r.wordpress.com/mo-bao-fei-bao/really-really-miss-you-completed/ The translator shared that for the author, the novel was a fun project to combine her love of food and ancient-style music. The translator embedded links to youtube videos of the songs in the novel. The translator also explains that when the novel was first posted online it included real life songs, but the author later went back and revised it with made-up songs because of copyright reasons. The songs used in the drama are not the songs in the first version of the novel and I have no idea if they are real life songs or were written specifically for the novel, but I do know that I’m already listening to the OST on repeat 😀 Tan Jianci’s voice is sublime. He really fits the character.
My impression of Gu Sheng is that for a good little while, she is completely star-struck when she starts interacting with QQC. And who can blame her? This makes her shy and self-conscious, exactly how I would be in her shoes. It takes her a while to accept that her idol is actually interested in her in a romantic way.
The novel is 53 chapters plus a couple of epilogues. Episode 10 of the drama corresponds to chapter 31 of the novel, and that does make me a bit nervous. So far the drama has followed the drama quite faithfully for a novel adaptation, but if the drama is halfway through the novel with 2/3 of the drama left to go…I really hope the drama doesn’t do anything stupid in order to fill in the remaining episodes.
I think there are two reasons why I love this novel and drama so much. I’ve always had an appreciation for certain voices (see: Sam Elliot!!!!!!) and those types of voices can literally make me weak in the knees. TJC has that kind of voice and so does the voice actor that dubbed Dylan Wang in LBFAD like someone mentioned above *swoons*. Also, the plot of the famous idol falling for the ordinary girl has always been a favorite of mine.
One final thing to add is that all of the questions and speculation that ya’ll have mentioned above will be addressed eventually 🙂
One of my thoughts after reading the above comments. I think she is experiencing it as surreal. She meets her idol and not only is he a dubbing master, he is also a doctor and gorgeous.
It is interesting that his advice to his audience is to not fall in love with a voice Because you do not know what the person is like.
Hi @Stacy!!! So glad to see you here and to know that you’re loving the Show and that you’ve read the novel.
That’s great news about the recipes… oooh, would you be able to compile the recipe book? That would be really lovely, if you have the time, of course!!!
Thanks for the link to the novel. I’m tempted… but I should re-prioritise because I’ve got so much going on!!! Thanks so much for the info on the author and the songs. I, too, really enjoy listening to Tan Jian Ci’s songs.
I agree with you and I did mention too that Gu Sheng is star struck and becomes shy before her idol. Otherwise she’s fine with a Weibo account and singing for her fans online, and generally talking to anyone.
Yes to TJC’s voice and LBFAD’s Demon’s Voice Actor’s voice. Love them to bits. We had a joke on the LBFAD thread that we’d be happy to have the Voice Actor just giving us road directions on a GPS app, and we’d drive everywhere, even to the corner store, just to hear him LOL.
Thanks for assuring us about the speculations. Now that I’m rewatching Ep 2, I, too, figure that he had been listening to her sing before and liked her voice long before he ‘met’ her online. 🙂
There will have to be some melodrama or it won’t be a typical show. I predict some trouble from that the famous singer, Mo Qiao Qiao / Ling Long Ti Tou, whose place QQC suggested Gu Sheng take in the anniversary performance. One of the characters described her as being a hard core fan of QQC. A conflict between the two women could be linked with internet bullying or something that has been touched upon already. I haven’t watched past episode 4 yet, so perhaps I’m well off track with my theory.
Gosh, I’m so frustrated that this isn’t on Viki here.
As to the recipe collection, it was just a far-fetched wish on my part. I was hoping that the production company might be doing that. I don’t want anyone here to feel obliged to write these up. The measurements are quite vague unless the translations I saw were simplistic.
@Kate, the ML certainly has a lot of poise for a man who hasn’t had experience with women. I’m comparing his aura with the ML in Hidden Love, who admitted his inexperience.
@Stacey – Great to see you here and to have all the benefit of your knowledge of the book and background!
So agree re melting voices… !!!
I am also excited to know that we will get answers to our questions!
@Monmor and @Fern,
Could the answer be that our ML has had a girlfriend in the past that none of his friends knew about??
Or is he simply – a little like Yang Yang’s character in Love 020 – in a heightened state of attraction and going with the flow and pulling off polished romantic behaviour because she is the One???
BUT … where is the nervousness that usually attends a new relationship…?
@Fern – 6 episodes are available today on Viki!
I’m going to watch 4 to 6 – hoorah!
https://www.viki.com/tv/40254c-love-me-love-my-voice
I’ve gone back to the start – our ML’s professional/stage name is IRIDIS according to the Viki subs as in ‘iridescent’ or ‘of the rainbow’.
Viki subs may help with things we haven’t understood.
@ Kate good point makes it worth rewatching the first 4 episodes.
I am re-watching the aubergine (eggplant) recipe! Must try this.
5 min iridis rainbow like waves in the bus as he is talking about the recipe? Is it her chat rooom or her friend’

3740 I understand the translation face reading better
43 The translation of her name shingshingman to voiciss Is an example of a pet peeve of mine. Why translate something unnecessarily?
The time stamps are only approximate. I really enjoyed the episode and Have a much better sense of what was going on.
Thanks for the link, @Kate. It wasn’t on it earlier this morning when I checked, so I’m a happy gal now.
oneiric means dream like. I noticed there was something about one sided?
@kate good thing I just had lunch and am not hungry
Me too @Fern! Always nice when the show shows up after dinner!
@ Monmor I agree… the Chinese name is much prettier and the English version doesn’t sound like a recipe either. He compares her name to something with okra in it…I think.
Omeric – dream-like – I missed that!
@GB I would be happy to compile a recipe list, thread, pdf, whatever 😀 I’ve already gone through the novel and listed all the recipes and the associated descriptions and instructions, but some of the recipes in the drama are different. So I’ll have to rewatch each episode (awww, what torture) and compile those recipes as well.
LOL @Stacy, that is so kind of you. Personally I don’t mind going with any recipes that you already gathered. I sort of took down the time stamp of a few recipes in Ep 1 and 2. If those episodes showcase the recipes, I can probably locate them for you. ☺️😇
I’ll try to be more meticulous in time-stamping all the recipes I come across as I go along my first and second watch. 🙂 You can let me know which recipes you need. 😁😋
TMI or… are the Episode 3 ‘Hmm’s from 23.17” meant to be as suggestive as they sound?
Probably not… but this segment ….
Perhaps we need to bring in @agdr03 to check this show out?
Hi, @Kate. I re-watched that just now and thought he was just sleepily saying “Yeah” in that grunty way that I sometimes hear in Chinese and Korean dramas. But yes, it has potential and the closeup of his lips might well make one think of other things. It was one of those times when, if I were the FL, I would quickly say, ‘I’ll call you back when you are awake’ (because I thought it was such an awkward phone conversation).
😂 anything suggestive should be checked out, right @Kate?
I will definitely watch this drama. TJX is looking handsome. 🥰
I’m just a bit busy with events and transitioning from office to home then last night I was at the emergency with my youngest. He’s ok now but I’m exhausted.
Promise I will come back here once I start it. 😘
I hope your youngest isn’t too uncomfortable. Poor kid!
Thanks @Fern. He was in excruciating pain yesterday on his lower abdomen but they couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it is.
He’ll have ultrasound and follow up tests.
Prayers for him and for your family.
Bless you @Fern! ❤️
Now back to chores.
@agdr03 …Poor chap – sorry to hear this .. keep us posted and yes sending prayers to him and you all.
@Fern, yes – I would have jumped off that call asap for the same reason!
@agdr03 – haha – reading back up the thread – yes that scene definitely calls for your keen powers of observation!
Eps 4 and 5 – wonderfully 3D capture of the awkward excitement of first meeting in person.
I really like the way these scenes were depicted. I could relate!
I cringe a bit at the level of team interference Chinese characters get in these dramas but in this case it all added to the ‘real feels’.
More comments tomorrow…
Episode 3 ‘Hmm’s
The third review
I think on a re-watch these are meant to sound safe and trusting rather than building another type of mood… the incidental music gives no hint of anything else!
@kate there was an implied intimacy I think in the mmmmms. I agree, more of safety and trust.
@agdr03, how are you and your son? I trust you’ve recovered your energy and that your son’s medical tests give good results.
@Kate, on the sleepy ‘Umms’ from QQC, my take on it is that he feels familiar enough with her to just be his sleepy self. He is not like a star struck teenager who would immediately perk up to hear his idol’s voice and put his best foot forward, or put on a false front, in order to impress. Since he woke up, he took her call and remained on the phone, but he did not bother to hide the fact that he was just waking up.
He is quite the mature ‘lover’ who sets about wooing his girl in a no nonsense, non-pushy way. He obviously admires her, but he also knows that he’s some 10 years her senior and that he has a greater responsibility to not lead her wrong or take advantage of her.
I contrast him with the new guy intern who’s like a bouncy pup chasing after his idols with great excitement. QQC is so totally not like that kind of person. In any case, I didn’t take his sleep ‘Umms’ in any suggestive way.
QQC’s Lack of Protest
I fancy that he has been circumspect and single for such a long time (I believe he’s supposed to be in his 30s), and hence his friends/colleagues are all the more desirous that he does not end up a lonely bachelor. They go off the other extreme and assume a relationship when none has yet started, but QQC often silently does not protest. When the assumption is made that he and GS are in a romance, he does not reject that idea outright or try to explain. For one thing, people cannot be convinced by explanations when their fond wishes might be fulfilled, and for another, I feel he tries to be truthful ie, he does not mind being in a romance with GS so he won’t protest.
The more important reason he does not try to dissuade anyone from thinking that they are a couple could also be that he does not want GS to feel rejected by him in any way, especially since he probably is quite serious about her. 🙂
@Monmor and @GB,
Yes, it would be out of character within this show too if my initial reaction was correct!
I very much like your take here @GB – the ‘mature lover’ and all that follows in your argument.
‘Mature lover’ – sounds rather scrumptious too.
This is why our younger FL is both vulnerable but can feel safe as she finds herself suddenly surrounded by so many interested parties!
QQC – as you say – doesn’t break the surface tension and cause her to be dropped on the hard floor of reality. The usual protestations of ‘no – nothing is happening’ – would leave her exposed and raw in that context.
I like your take on this and it rings true in relation to his kindness.
AND it also explains why she is suddenly in this romantic space of fairy tale possibilities because he is not constantly trying to defend himself from misunderstanding.
He is allowing the new situation simply to be.
I very much liked it too when they had their first sit down meal and he admitted that he was sharing recipes because he didn’t know what to talk to her about!
So, some of the confident approach is actually his way of being in conversation with someone he doesn’t know how to talk to!
Music and recipes as a channel of connection and communication and steady building of closeness.
Full Moon Picture
Also – and this is one for @GB I think, I noticed that when we saw QQC’s Weibo page… can’t find it as I scroll back through episodes now … there was a picture of an evening, twilight sky with a large full moon.
I wonder if this was a rather nice referencing of TJC’s role as the moon gazing Xiao Liu in ‘Lost for Ever’.
This will depend of course on when this show was filmed.
If you get a moment, can someone remind me how to embolden text please?
Many thanks!
@Kate and @GB, I like your thoughts about QQC. I think his suave demeanor may come from experience of another sort than dating: his family’s style, his professions (both doctors and idols have to have a calm public persona), his own personality. It is a bit jarring in a person who has never dated, but QQC clearly isn’t manipulating the FL. Despite his calm and her nerves, they seem similar somehow. I feel the ML and FL are introverts who still are able to function well in public situations.
I like your ideas that he is letting things flow. It explains his patience on the phone calls and messages when GS can’t get the words out. He did insist on seeing her home, but that is a caring gesture and he didn’t come in any further than the entrance to the university.
I’m laughing about the dating radar. Both the FL and ML have people around them who have it. I’m looking forward to GS’s mother meeting with QQC. He is a mother’s dream, isn’t he? Two good careers, handsome and a cook like her. He already said he likes her cooking, right, and they haven’t even met.
Another reason why his friends could be extra aware of this relationship: they said that another singer, Ling Ling Ti Tou, was his hard core fan. She is a famous professional who must have worked with them in some way. If she tried flirting with him and he was disinterested, the friends might well notice if he had any contact with a woman they didn’t know. They are clearly all on his side and would like him to get into a relationship with someone nice.
@Kate, for the text, I think you could try copy and paste from whichever word processing app you use.
@Monmor, yes Ailee has a fabulous voice – more of an international style I think. It says a lot about her talent and intelligence that she can complete recording so quickly. Did you see the interview I mentioned? I am surprised that she wasn’t snapped up by North American entertainment agencies, but then Asians seem to be very under-represented or type-cast in the popular arts. I’m glad that she has been successful in Korea.
🍪🍫🍮☕🥮🍪🍫🍮☕🥮
Good morning, @packmule3. Please could you open another thread for the next chunk of episodes of Love Me Love My Voice? More eps. have dropped on Viki. (Yes, my Christmas present indeed. 😊)
Thank you @Kate 😘 and @GB 😘
I tried to rest today but I had a lot of errands, other than that my son is much better. He’s not in pain anymore but I’m keeping him for another day. He will do his ultrasound on Thursday morning.
Bless you both! ❤️
Keeping your family in prayer @agdr03!!
I really appreciate that @GB. Thank you. ☺️
@Fern
You make good points!
I usually find this somewhat irritating but in this Show, it is one of the main ploys to create conflict, so I accept it with equanimity. The radars are so over-the-top (OTT) that they become laughably in our faces all the time, however this creates the many situations where QQC and GS can be found out, or their identities could be revealed, or where they have to tell bald-faced lies. However over and over again, we find that they avoid the pitfalls.
Oh yes, I anticipate instant love between mother-in-law and son-in-law LOL. He’s really a gem of a husband for one’s daughter!!
I feel you’ve hit the nail on the head here. They are sooooo super interested that QQC has not been aloof or indifferent towards Shengshengman, probably precisely because he’s been that way with every other female (and we hear that many females tried to get his attention) and not even with a fellow singer-dubber Ling Long, who is quite a beauty, herself.
@Fern,
I like your observations and thoughts too.
Yes, the calm demeanour coming from other professional experience – makes a lot of sense.
You pick up on them being similar people – that is supported by the intuitive quality of the mutual attraction that is growing through each encounter.
This show should reassure any introvert that you don’t have to be chatterbox to create a link with someone else.
I loved it when he told her not to worry about asking banal questions (that was her concern not his) because they didn’t know one another very well yet.
Your reflections on his friends being so excited and the history behind that also makes a lot of sense. They are all giddy with excitement aren’t they?? I wouldn’t be able to cope with that in his shoes!! Lol
ps Thank you for the tip…it doesn’t seem to work from Word. I’ll do some experimenting though. I wonder if I have to put some punctuation around the words.
@Kate To make text BOLD etc, use the angle brackets instead of the square ones.
Samples:
BOLD
ITALICS
BOLD and ITALICS
[blockquote]TEXT TO BLOCKQUOTE[/blockquote]
@GB thank you!
This is an experiment
@Kate, change the square to angle brackets. Not sure if I can input them here … they may disappear because they are part of html coding (I think).
Hi @GB – I am not sure how to do that – do i italicise the square brackets or are there angled brackets on my keyboard? I can’t see them.
{
[
(
No rush if you are busy!
@Kate, onj your keyboard do you have the brackets above the comma and the full stop keys? They are angled like a V lying on its side?? There should be 2 of them. Those are the angle brackets for coding. But when I key them in here they disappear so you cannot see them. That’s why I used square brackets to show you where the codes go.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAh….thank you!!
@GB thank you!
May I chime in here with a question? Is it possible to copy and paste my comments from another program such as word or MS notes on my android rater than directly entering here?
@MM, I use a computer so that I can copy and paste text. It’s easier at times to write in Word or some other app and then paste into BOD so that I have a copy of what I write.
I’m not sure if it’s easy to do using a phone because I need a mouse to mark and copy and paste!!!
Epsisode 5 A song will do when words fail
I realise now re-listening to QQC launching into song while seated next to SS on the bus… that the words are so apt and sooo romantic!
I am re-listening at the 26′ 50” mark!
Your voice permeates the green plums
Your voice disturbs the blue skies
Your voice makes the spring rain fall
The world is drunk. I am shy
We are talking, like we are holding hands
We are silent like we are hiding behind the dawn
The moment is still lingering
We look right at each other
There is only us in the world
….
There is more but I have to go back to work.
@GB I will experiment now that I know it is possible.
@kate Yes, they are communicating On so many levels without speaking to each other. I thought that song was very significant and beautiful.
I don’t think this would be regarded as a spoiler, so I’ll share it. Regarding MQQ’s age – the novel never states his specific age, but he is believed to be around 27-28. In a preview for an upcoming episode (13 or 14) he tells Gu Sheng he is 29.
Thanks @Stacy. So he’s about 8-9 years older than her?
Anyone else a bit worn out by the heavy-handed comments by almost every person the ML and FL meet when out together?
Is this a comedy thing or a reflection of the much more communal/familial Chinese culture just in an exaggerated way for the story?
I am a little irritated by the intrusive behaviour of virtually everyone.
Rant over.
This belongs in the next thread…I am commenting on their trip out on Valentine’s Day.
I started later than I intended and am only partly through Episode 2. I have been reading your comments above as I go. Although the ‘recipes’ are very short, they are beautifully filmed. It reminds me a bit of a show I saw, early in the pandemic which had visually stunning food photography. I believe the show on Netflix, Flavorful Origins, is the one a saw earlier. If not it also is beautifully filmed. I may have to rewatch LMLMV episodes (or watch going forward); I am not sure the rest of the film is the same caliber as the food sequences or not. Are we sure there is not a cookbook (LOL)? Seems like there ought to be.
I was also going to say that in my former line of work (now retired – hoo hoo, I guess), I knew of multiple doctors that had side gigs in areas of tremendous complexity; I mostly knew of the ones that were music related, but these individuals were total type As: A Surgeon AND played oboe in an international physician’s orchestra; a neurologist AND regularly played local piano concerts. Some people just are amazing like that. Additionally, they were genuinely nice people.
Hi @SD, thanks for the lowdown on doctors LOL. It’s good to know that this story is possibly/probably based on real life experiences of doctors and people in the subbing industry.
So far I have not seen any degrading in the quality of the drama even at 12 Episodes, but there are 33 Episodes over all!! We may expect some filler episodes if there is not enough action or conflict to bring us along.
Take your time and come read us and comment when you can. It’s meant to be a relaxing group watch over weeks.
I noticed that in these episodes, we are in the year 2021. I believe that means we will get a slice-of-life romance until 2023!!! I’m guessing we’ll have to go through 2 years of ups and downs with our couple who are just beginning to size each other up, so to speak.
@salteddust, I lived upstairs from a professional oboe player. It was so nice to hear him practice through open windows in the summer. It’s great to know it’s not an exaggeration, although the scheduling must be difficult for someone who is also a full-time doctor.
Regarding the recipes, I also wondered if the production company might publish a book/blog to go alongside the series. I would feel proud to make even one of the dishes to serve with rice as a meal, but you will see many of them get made in one go by Dr Perfect.
@Fern, what I understood from @Stacey’s posts was that the recipes are in the novel, but the Show changed some of them. It will be a pity that they don’t compile them from the Script or wherever and put them out for viewers. The way the ingredients were thrown into the air or slammed onto flat surfaces, and video recorded made them look extra beautiful and delicious!
EPISODE 1
A Note on The Lyrics of the Song that Enraptured QQC
This song was also played at the end of the episode and I got the lyrics from that part of the Show.
(35:37) The night GS walks Peanut the dog to the mini-mart, QQC comes to buy his yoghurt drinks. The sound of “Golden Wind and Jade Dew” sung by GS which plays from the laptop has QQC transfixed.
GS stares at QQC but he’s unaware of this at first as he listens intently to her song. Obviously, she finds him attractive.
The lyrics seem to say what he might have thought or said if he had known who GS was.
“Staring into the starry night. We wonder who we’ll spend our lives with.” (GS is staring at QQC while he is staring at the source of the song. I believe it’s the song that first got him interested in her voice.)
“My thoughts constitute a dream.” (He walks slowly to the counter, and looks at GS who’s still staring at him. She smiles at him and he returns the smile. So the next words are almost right for them…)
“We met just that year.” (He reaches the counter and looks at the computer … he sees that Demo 320 is playing on the music player.) (This is true for them… they may have dreamt of meeting each other but did not expect that they would really meet.)
“Fate brought us closer” (Well, I’d call it coincidence in this case. He’d been a regular customer, but they had not seen each other until now, and at the very time that Cousin Gu Jia decided to play the song.)
“Our paths are meant to cross” (We see that after this, their paths cross a lot online and then QQC puts in effort to make sure that their paths keep crossing, so it is no longer fate or coincidence that has them meeting.)
“In those years of youth and beauty”
“When we suddenly turn around”
“Geese were flying back home” (My guess is that this means that they’ve spent long months or years together and it felt like only a moment. They did not know how much time had elapsed but it must have been a season or two when the geese would migrate again.)
“The moment I met you”
“I knew you’re the one I want” (Hmmm information for us viewers about what they think about each other?
“No need to prove our love in a hurry” (We see this being played out in the following episodes. QQC is trying to go a little fast and yet take it slow. )
“Because it will last forever”
EPISODE 1
A Note on GS’s Inadvertent Accurate Prediction
(37:27) When QQC leaves the store, GS stares after him and claims to be reading his fortune from his face. She does not realise that what she says is rather accurate!
“His eyes have a unique shape. Theoretically it’s a common feature of persistent people. They rarely give up on something. They’re highly devoted to a job or a relationship.”
MINOR SPOILER
MINOR SPOILER
Later on we will hear QQC put this in words in the monologue that he adds to the song “Return With You”. He will say in that song and monologue that he would never break up till the world passes away.
EPISODE 5
@Monmor – Speaking of drinking and from the same cup!!!
A Long Note on the Song “Return With You”
(Timestamp 4:18 to 8:49)
SPOILERS
SPOILERS
QAC and GS record a song together in The Perfect Voice Studio, while QQC’s teammates keep teasing and observing them. The recording was not planned, because Wang Ke had suddenly suggested that they do something as a memento, since they were both in the studio together.
However, QQC somehow appears to be prepared. He agrees and suggests that they sing in duet ‘Return With You’, a song written by GS and quite popular. It could be released for Valentine’s Day as a gift from the Studio to their fans. The song seems to speak of a couple growing old together, without losing their passion for each other. (Or one half of a couple remaining and missing the other).
As they record their song, the voice recorder charts their volume with lines short and tall. We see parallel lines and synchronised patterns to the two lines as their voices rise and fall to the melody. Sometimes one line is still and sometimes the other as they take turns to sing parts of their duet. Might this be a metaphor for their team work and romance? They would have lull periods and periods with swelling volume, jagged lines and smoother waves, but on the whole, they would be in harmony.
Where previously they’d only interacted by voice or chat, this was the start of their face-to-face duet in life, to make beautiful music together.
QQC adds a monologue that was as appropriate as it was unexpected, but greatly welcomed. A sign that perhaps QQC would give a pleasant surprise to GS every now and then?
The lyrics and especially the monologue put into words what QQC probably found hard to say in conversation.
Return With You
Turning the years into a drifting boat (GS)
Sailing through the tumult and winding sorrow
I fear the past will be crushed by the coming cold wind
And stirred into a piece of tranquil river water
Touching the crack with my fingertips (QQC)
I dare not look at the haggard faces and gray hair in the mirror
After many years, the longing remains as sharp
And our shadows are thinner
Grinding the memories into ink (GS)
And writing them on paper (QQC)
The mirror and the person are both gone (Together)
Where could I ask for the return date
The bronze mirror shatters at farewell (GS)
It’s hard to convey the lovesickness (QQC)
Over millions of miles (Together)
I laugh at the fame and wealth of my life. (QQC)
I picture is as a flower in the mirror (Together)
It’s hard to rival a cup of tea in your hand
We drink from the same cup (sung by GS)
And we share joy and sorrow (sung by QQC)
We drink down the past memories (together)
Being together from morning till night.
Or alone in the corner of the world (QQC and together)
Frost whitens the hair that fringes(/in front of) the forehead
Looking at the world, where is my home
I wish the clear frost that glitters in the moonlight (GS)
Reflects the couple in the mirror (QQC)
Return with me (Together)
After being separated for half a life
Monologue: “Finishing the Ode of Shanglin with several strokes, I close the book and promise to return with you in both lifetimes.”
I laugh at the fame and wealth of my life. (Together)
I picture is as a flower in the mirror
It’s hard to rival a cup of tea in your hand
We drink from the same cup (GS)
And we share joy and sorrow (QQC)
We drink down the past memories (Together)
Being together from morning till night. (GS and then Together)
Or alone in the corner of the world (Together)
Frost whitens the hair that fringes(/in front of) the forehead
Looking at the world, where is my home
I wish the clear frost that glitters in the moonlight (GS)
Reflects the couple in the mirror (QQC)
Return with me (Together)
After being separated for half a life
Turning the years into a drifting boat (QQC)
Sailing through the tumult and winding sorrow
The past has been rippling and spilling over in the mind (GS)
And the moonlight brightens and dims softly
And the moonlight brightens and dims softly (QQC and then GS)
Monologue: “Only when the world ceases to exist will I break up with you.”
Everyone is convinced that QQC must have prepared the monologue in advance as it suited the cadence and the lyrics of the song completely. My guess is that he did prepare it in the event that they might have the chance to sing it. When asked to choose a song, this would have been the one he’d pick, as a means to tell her his intentions.
He totally had planned to spend the rest of his life with her.
Wow, @GB, it seems that he has firm intentions all right and he is putting it all on the line in front of her. Such a beautiful lyrics, too. Thank you.
A bit unfair to a young girl who is joining the group timidly, to have it all prepared. It would have been too unrealistic if she had been able to immediately and perfectly to sing with him, but with his experience he could guide her. I liked also that he took over the final mastering/engineering of her part later on.
@Fern, Don’t mention it.
I think I’d have been rather mind-blown as a young 20-something if my idol suddenly sung those lyrics and spoke that monologue to me. However if I were, say, in my 30s, and the gung-ho type, I might have asked him point blank: “What are your intentions, sir? Are you toying with me?” LOLOL.
@GB, I probably would have run the other way, because it would have made no logical sense to me; it would have been coming on far too strong. Or I would have thought it just as an act, similar to when the ML said “I love you, Shengshengman.” (even though it wasn’t entirely an act for him) I was glad that she replied “I love your .”
SINGING IN THE BUS
(27:10 ) What a dreamy bus ride that was. It was beautifully shot with that music, his voice, and the view of the bus traveling sedately through a beautifully lit city.
@Kate, thanks for the lyrics of EPISODE 5’s Song on the Bus.
I like the lyrics you found, but I don’t know where you got them from. I took down the lyrics from the screen which are less grammatically correct and are harder to understand. I also found Peachey Blossom’s lyrics to compare against. I’ve decided to blatantly mix the lyrics and intersperse my own so that the song makes a bit more sense. (Credit to Peachey Blossom for some of the lyrics!)
What I like about that song, ‘Wintersweet’ … GS had been praising QQC’s singing. Earlier he’d admitted that he didn’t know what to say to her and so spoke of recipes. On this, their first bus ride to her school, he notes that the route to his studio was quite scenic and offered: “I’ll take you for a walk next time you come again.” She agrees.
With the promise that there would be a ‘next time’, QQC unexpectedly starts singing for her in the empty bus. I assume that means he has said what he wanted to say in speech and decided to let the song speak for him. Since she was agreeable to a walk with him, he wanted to consolidate that moment with the song.
I agree @Kate, that the lyrics were so right for him and sooo romantic. And it does so well because words do fail.
Wintersweet
There is a voice that drenches the green plums
There is a voice that wrinkles the blue sky
Shedding an invisible spring rain (Your lyrics say the voice makes the spring rain fall)
The world is drunk with shyness. (It’s not the world that’s shy, but the lovers LOL.)
We talk and laugh as if we are holding hands
We stay silent like the sunset behind us
That moment still lingers
When our eyes meet, all else vanishes away
You flow through my heart like a river
Echoing with the constant gentleness of the bright moon
Looking back among fleeting and everlasting moments
We embrace in the passing moment
Each sound is a promise of forever to a lifetime
You linger in my dreams countless times
Whenever I see you, my heart flutters a thousand times
Birds fly past spring and autumn once again
The unaffected world still remains, gifting us freedom
Every time we are brewed into wine
Within the intoxication, I can feel
The sound of your voice is in my heart for all my life
Drifting through my life with no end
= = =
It’s so apt that the song speaks of the ‘voice’. I prefer ‘voice’ to ‘sound’ for obvious reasons. The song speaks of the voice that affects one so much, it’s as if it could cause the rain to fall. It is the sound with a promise of forever.
Fittingly the song also mentions how words are powerful enough to connote skinship, and yet how the lovers may be silent together, just looking at each other as if the rest of the world has fallen away.
Thank you, @GB. The lyrics fit the moment and sentiment so well. I’m no singer and envy those who have good voices. I wonder if two singers would be likely to sing to each other, even in public, and I think they would. Having known some musicians who had a melody for almost every occasion, I can well imagine it.
I’m rewatching to make notes of the recipes – finished ep 5 last night. I’m also trying to match the songs with the OST, because the translations of the titles and lyrics between the subs on Tencent and Peachy’s uploads on youtube are slightly different. For example, MQQ doesn’t state the name of the song he sings on the bus, but when Gu Sheng sings it during her livestream later, she calls it Green Plums (Tencent subtitles). But the song is called Wintersweet on the OST. So yeah, I’m making a chart 😀
For an update on the recipes, so far through ep 5 it appears that the recipes are basically the same as the novel. I thought there were changes but it turns out that it’s just a translation issue. Just like the songs, there are different names for the dishes between the translation of the novel and the subs on Tencent. Going back and examining the ingredients and instructions corrected my assumption.
So far I’ve just been compiling a list of the dishes with the ingredients and instructions, but I’m about to start googling for recipes. Hope I can find at least a few of them!
My dear @Stacy, thank you for taking so much time and effort to go into the recipes!! Only do this if you are free.
I’m horribly lazy about cooking but I’d like to at least read recipes even if I don’t do all that they tell me to do!!! 😅😆
@GB, I have a pretty laid back job, so I often have time during my work day to look up stuff, read, watch youtube, etc. Lucky me, I know!
I have a genuine interest in the project because I love Asian food and I love learning how to cook the recipes that interest me. My history with Asian food starts back in 1999 when a Malaysian classmate in college informed my ignorant self that Chinese restaurants in America did NOT serve authentic Chinese food, that all the recipes have been “Americanized”. She took me to her rental house and showed me how to make egg rolls, and I was amazed at how much better they were than any I’d ever tasted. From that point on I was hooked. In 2009 when I started watching Japanese dramas, I became interested in the things they would eat and would look up recipes. It escalated when I started watching Korean dramas. That’s when I got serious. I bought cookbooks, scoured the internet for recipes and videos, made 2-3 hour trips to Asian markets and Korean restaurants….
So yeah. I don’t mind at all taking on this project 😀
@GB – Thank you! I am so enjoying luxuriating in these lyrics and your comments!
Lovely.
I liked the way SS responded to these various overtures… she was ‘pondering them in her heart’.
I liked the shy pleasure on her face as he sang to her on the bus.
I liked the glances his way when he sang and added the spoken sections.
We bemoan the lack of small talk … but he has been saying so much to her!
How very nice to enjoy these evocative words after a long day and a bus ride where they couldn’t find a replacement driver (15 min wait just outside of Brixton) and then we got a new driver but the bus broke down 10 mins later and we all had to get out…LOL!!
[It took me longer to get home on the bus from the centre of town – a 40 minute rush hour journey normally and now 1 hour 45 mins -than it takes to travel by train to my family in the midlands.]
@Stacy, you are a star! I look forward to seeing some of the recipes. I live in a fairly remote part of the UK, but there are a couple of Asian markets. The most difficult part will be the fresh ingredients, but I will ask the shop keepers for ideas.
Oh, bus woes, @Kate! I hope you got home safe and dry. It rained so hard here today – many of our local roads were flooded.
I got home slightly damp @Fern but bought some comfort food at the local M&S – which I have now enjoyed!
@Stacy I’m very happy to know that hunting for recipes and compiling them to share is something you’re enjoying. That’s all important, when we ‘work’ for the joy of it. By all means then, ‘knock yourself out!’ LOL.
I know there are several of us here who will greatly appreciate your compilation of recipes. 🙂
Much thanks and please keep your posts on the show and the novel coming too!!!
@Stacy, You’re making me hungry. I was very lucky. I grew up outside of New York’s Chinatown I also worked nearby for eleven years. For most of those eleven years I ate lunch in Chinatown. What I learned is that many restaurants were authentic(as per my friends) and I grew fond of eating all manner of dim sum, enjoyed congee during cold weather and tried foods from various regions.Over the years Cantonese Chinese restaurants stopped being the norm.New York City has at least six Chinese neighborhoods with the largest being in Flushing in the borough of Queens. So if BODers ever come to New York try to make your way to Queens for authentic Chinese food. You’ll have the greatest variety to choose from And that includes mall food courts there. There is also a Korean neighborhood in Queens and in parts of New Jersey including Fort Lee. There is a small but mighty Korea Town in midtown Manhattan near Macy’s. And there’s a huge Japanese market in Edgewater New Jersey with a wonderful food court and supermarket.
@Stacey,
Just caught up with your post.
This is brilliant!
Thank you for this work – I’m so looking forward to reading some of this and trying out recipes while enjoying beautiful lyrics.
Yes, very much hoping this is fun for you, too, and not too gargantuan a task.
Kalimera Ladies,
I have started this last night and I really like it! It is on Viki for us.
What a blooming and easy going relationship they have! <3
Hi @Cleo, if there are any words to describe this Show, they are “sweet and relaxing”. 🙂
A good show to counteract the forcefulness of Death’s Game.
Unnie,
We all need some time for “sweet and relaxing”, aren’t I right?
I have missed Tan Jian Ci. He is so calm and down to earth in this one.
As for Zhou Ye, it is my first time watching her.
I recently finished this and it is very pretty, sweet and easy.
Kalimera @Fern!
It is too good to see you here! 😀
I would like something like that. I just want to watch something warm and sweet!
Kalimera, @Cleopatra. It will be perfect for you then. It’s like a lovely postcard of China. Every time I anticipated some sort of stress in the script, it disappeared. No bad vibes at all.
@Fern,
Then I will try to cherish it. I don’t have so much time to binge watch this one…
@Cleo, Zhou Ye is able to convey the naive, young girl character very well. In real life (I saw her in an interview) she’s very different from Sheng Sheng Man.
Enjoy the food porn and the music and of course, TJC looking peaceful and smiley (unlike in Lost You Forever!)
Unnie,
I haven’t watched “Lost You Foreve”! I have watched TJC on “Under The Skin” and I really liked him there. As for Zhou Ye I haven’t seen her anywhere before.
Yes, I really like the food porn and the music so far!
It is rather interesting to watch that they have an Avatar and they go by it on We Chat and Weibo to promote their work and not their real names.
