This is why I give the show 8 episodes to grow on me. Unless there’s a fatal flaw, I can get used to it.
Here are my highlights.
1. The backstory of Madam Ju’s eldest child, Noh Sukmin
a. 12 years ago, he killed someone while he was driving drunk and went to his mother, apparently to beg for legal interference.
Sukmin: I made a mistake because I was drunk. I didn’t know it was a person!
Madam Ju wouldn’t listen to his excuse. She believed that he should pay for what he did. By “pay,” she meant to do jailtime for his DUI manslaughter. not just pay the fine.
b. When Sukmin and the rest of family discovered at Madam Ju’s funeral that she had made DoHee, heir of the MiRae Group, bypassing him and his sister in her will, he was naturally furious.
Addressing her empty chair, he vowed, “If this is what she wanted, I’ll follow suit.”
By that, I don’t think he meant that he would acquiesce and hand over the company to DoHee without a fight. He meant that if her mother was daring him, even from the grave, to fight her decision, then fight her he would. He was going to defy the will and wrest control from DoHee by foul means.
c. Later in the episode, Sukmin burned the last letter that he received from Madam Ju. He addressed the empty room, “Did you even have the right to criticize other people’s wrongs?”
His comment ties in with what I said in my “First Impressions.” I suspected that Madam Ju had a hand in DoHee’s parents’ death, and that she raised DoHee like an adopted daughter out of (Catholic) guilt. It was DoHee’s father’s invention that made Mirae Group. And if he had been alive, DoHee would be chaebol herself.
It also seemed to me that Madam Ju’s guilt manifested in two ways. One, she had to go to confession regularly. It weighed heavily on her that she was hiding the “truth” (whatever it was) from DoHee. Two, she had to live with an injured knee. Since the injury was sustained at the site of the car explosion, it must have been a constant reminder to her of the accident.
If Sukmin knew about his mother’s involvement in the car accident, then it’s no wonder that he holds her in contempt.
d. He owned a cigarette lighter.
2. Who’s Madam Ju’s murderer?
My first guess was the grandson, SukMin’s son…because he had a cigarette lighter.
Lol. And the Leather Glove killer had one. (They only look similar; they aren’t identical.)
The cigarette lighter could very well turn out to be a red herring because in this kdrama, all shady men have cigarette lighters.
Seriously, though, he was a suspect because:
a. he didn’t bother to hide his contempt for his grandmother after her death. He called her funeral a “happy day.” He planned to smoke in Madam Ju’s greenhouse to show his defiance towards her non-smoking rule.
b. he crushed the dead butterfly with his shoe. That’s symbolism for “I killed you. And if I could, I would have grinded you down to dust.”
You see, in the previous episode, DoHee had befriended a butterfly, imagining it to be the soul of Madam Ju.
If this butterfly represented Madam Ju, then the grandson’s act of stepping on it symbolized his deep hatred for kill his grandmother.
c. he’s psycho.
He was asking the nursing staff if she would like those scars on her wrists, too.
3. The funny moments
a. DoHee was in denial.
In this drama, the girl fell for the guy first. But I don’t think it’s deep love, though. It’s more like attraction…an obsessive attraction.
She kept telling GuWon that she was unbothered by his rejection of her proposal because she was a “chill” person. Obviously, the more she protests, the more she was unbelievable. She was clearly nonplussed by his rejection. Her ego was bruised, more than her heart.
It didn’t help the situation that our demon GuWon was inexperienced with the human emotion called love. He didn’t seem to get that DoHee’s prickliness was due to her humiliation. Hence, he believed her many excuses to write-off her proposal as an aberration and temporary moment of insanity.
b. She wanted him to play uplifting music.
She got a steady stream of music about marriage.
First song lyrics: “Will I ever get married.”
Second song lyrics: “I even thought about marrying you.”
Third song lyrics: “Will you marry me?”
There was no escaping her humiliation.
c. Alone in her apartment, she was dreaming of ways to get even. One way was to make him wear a snare around his neck and drag him to their wedding with it.
Personally, I wouldn’t advise her to do this. The snare is a tool that hunters use to capture their prey. If he wore a snare, it meant that he was being forced to marry her. What she should aim for is the reverse. She should show the world that he is so besotted with her that he wants nothing else in this world but to marry her.
d. She also imagined using a tranquilizer gun on GuWon.
DoHee: A tranquilizer gun would be better since he’s not human. The ones they use on elephants. Right in the neck. With a dosage high enough to knock out an elephant.
Overhearing her plan for him, Guwon tiptoed out of there in fear.
Noteworthy: Guwon was outside the hallway by himself when DoHee was talking aloud inside her apartment about shooting him with a dart. So how did Seokhoon Oppa hear it?
He mentioned hearing it when he was about to leave DoHee’s apartment.
Seokhoon: What was that about an elephant earlier?
DoHee: An elephant? (pretending not to know) I have no idea.
Seokhoon: I clearly heard you talking about
DoHee: (talking over him) I’m so tired.
Seokhoon: knocking out an elephant or something.
DoHee: (pushing toward the door) I’m going to bed. Get going.
Huh? What did he meant “clearly”? He wasn’t within hearing distance when she said that.
SeokHoon Oppa must have bugged her apartment. Creepy. To think that he chose to name himself as “Guardian” on her cellphone address book. It meant that he was always on her side…but not in a good way.
Fortunately, GuWoon would check the light sconces along her hallway for bugs.
4. SeokHoon Oppa is my best bet.
Things just don’t add up with him.
a. Isn’t he an accountant? Why didn’t he discover the anomalies in the records? In Episode 2, his disheveled look at Madam Ju’s party was brought to attention. He gave an excuse that he was too busy at work increasing Madam Ju’s wealth that he had no time to dress up for the big event.
Yeahhhhh, right. I call BS. He was trying to put across a false image of himself as hard-working and unostentatious unlike his cousins. I bet he could wear leather jacket and leather gloves just fine.
b. Is this really all just a coincidence?
After DoHee told him that she hired GuWoon as a bodyguard because “he’s the one who can keep me safe better than anyone else,” the Eczema Neck Man was given an order to “release the hunting dog.”
Was there cause-and-effect or am I simply imagining things?
She told SeokHoon Oppa this.
Then, the Eczema Neck Man was given orders to go to the Mafia people at the club to give them the whereabouts of Jung Guwon.
The notes on the card was very exact about the identity and location of Jung GuWon.
Note: the alias of Eczema Neck Man’s boss was “Abraxas.” Abraxas is another name for demon. Just google it because I’m not interested in dwelling on this.
c. He could be Madam Ju’s killer if he owned a motorbike.
I believe that’s the reason the killer was wearing a leather jacket and leather gloves when he visited Madam Ju. He owned a motorbike; he rode it to visit Madam Ju at her mansion.
He must have requested or told her something, and she answered in her usual way…without an ounce of mercy or favor towards a family member.
Madam Ju: You killed someone on top of all your dirty tricks? You’ll have to pay for what you’ve done.
Sukmin’s out as her killer. Her oldest son would have known better than to ask for help from her after his accident 12 years ago. As for the Grandson, I doubt the Grandson would have approached her because he hated her guts.
Madam Ju: I knew it. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
She sounded disappointed. She probably didn’t expect this person to commit murder on top of the “dirty tricks” or embezzlement of funds.
d. The title could easily refer to him. “Sweet But Dangerous.” SeungHoon Oppa behaved like he was a sweet supportive oppa to DoHee when he could very well be her assailant and murderer.
5. The old homeless lady = God(dess)/Deity
a. She was wearing a “God” baseball cap. It should have read “Good,” but the second “o” wore off.”
b. Her bank was “Jesus Corp. Daeguk Bank.”
c. Her words, “Good times are always excruciatingly short,” sounded ominous. She had spotted GuWon and DoHee in the car squabbling amicably.
6. GuWoon’s memories are coming back.
a. He remembered being called “Young Master YiSun.”
Hmmm…this drama isn’t some sort of “Beauty and the Beast” story, right? The Beast used to be a handsome but arrogant prince. He treated an old beggar woman unkindly. She turned out to be an enchantress and cursed him to become a beast because he “had no love within his heart.”
b. According to his sidekick, this meant that his memories were returning because he was mortal again.
Sidekick: Car accidents are a bigger risk than spontaneous combustion. Goodbye, eternal life! Hello, aging!
c. That’s why GuWoon was frantic about aging. He didn’t realize however that there were far worse things for him to worry about than aging. Like, the enemies he accumulated as the Demon would want payback and seek vengeance for killing their loved ones/bosses/friends and so on.
7. The squabbling is funny.
The couple’s memorable lines from this episode? There were two.
DoHee: You’re treating me like a wireless charger.
GuWoon: And you treat me like a Pokemon.
And when he compared her to a pig. Oooff.
8. Noteworthy: Madam Ju’s last words in this episode
Madam Ju: The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
The problem here is she wasn’t a good person to begin with, either. She told DoHee that she was leaving her in a den of wolves, but she was the pack leader. She raised those wolves herself.
The title “Sweet But Dangerous” could also refer to her. She sounded and acted sweet to DoHee because she hid her dangerous side very well and showed it only on occasions.
I’ll end here.
@packmule3, this one appeared in my email notifications and I see it on the list as well. Did you see it?
Thank you, @Fern. I see it now. I hope the glitch in system has been fixed.

I haven’t been unable to access our offsite communication channel 😭
I hope you’re doing well!
@Packmule3,
It is getting better per episode! I read somewhere that Song Kang said that every episode’s ending is a beautiful one and I have to agree.
Still, we shall see how things will go…
I’m not sure how I feel about this drama. It’s not always pulling me in and I find myself FF-ing through the PPLs (of course) but also the long shots of the ML and FL just looking beautiful or having conversations that don’t convey a lot of information. Those long shots remind me a lot of King the Land, where the ML tried on clothes or walked down hallways looking handsome, with those shots not adding anything to the story (or which could have been done much more succinctly, at least).
I apply what I call the “BB test” (Bitchy Beth!) to dramas like this. Would we watch this drama if the leads were homely? There are so many closeup shots of these actors’ perfect complexions, shapely mouths, etc., in this show. The camera probably wouldn’t linger in the same way if they weren’t good/perfect looking.
There are kdramas that would still work if one or both actors weren’t beautiful. One that comes to mind is Business Proposal. It’s possible that the ML would still have found the FL charming if she had been not the standard skinny SK FL–for instance, if she had been more like Bridget Jones. I think he liked her personality and exuberance as much if not more than her appearance. It also might have even been funnier if he really did look more like a Archaeopteryx. Shopping King Louis might have also worked if both actors were less attractive, because they weren’t attracted to one another at the beginning but form a partnership/friendship.
It might be fun someday to make a (bitchy) list of shows that rely as much if not more on the attractiveness of the leads than the storyline itself–or, conversely, which shows might work without FL/ML beauty.
In a previous scene SeonHook Oppa put a transmitter in her bag.
So, he spies on her since a while. Probably why he could ear the “elephant line”.
He couldn’t be front of her door, as Jung Koo Won was.
Yep, I noticed the 2nd lighter, same one, used by Sukmin.
Squabbling. There are awkward comedy moments (tango scene or things like that) rather loud and not funny (at least for me), but still various dialogues with good ping-pong. Not exactly something that make me laugh, but smiles or enjoy the lines.
