I don’t know what sort of algorithm Youtube did, but this guy’s shorts (“short videos” not his underpants, ok?) started appearing on my feed. And now I’m thirsty hungry.
I thought I would share his clips with you, @Fern and @agdr03 (and the other foodies on the blog), since you like to cook. Check out his channel, kennysong or @kennylsong and tell me what you think.
Here I’ll post three of them.
I like his recipe for japchae. With so many ingredients to prep for one single dish, and I can see why it’s invented for kings.
My mouth dropped when he smashed that garlic with his fist. I’m sorry: If I did that, I would be yelling in pain next.
And his chocolate creme brulee! The way he smirked after he lit his torch made me laugh. He was going for the devilish look but I don’t think it worked on me. I thought he was a pyromaniac.
BTW, the song is “Nothing” by Bruno Major (not Bruno Mars).
How many times have we watched the hero cook in kdrama? The most recent one is from “A Good Day to Be a Dog” when Cha EunWoo cooked breakfast for his nephew. This is the mini-clip I found on Youtube. (I’ll replace it when I find a better clip)
See the difference?
The directors and screenwriters could learn a trick or two from this @kennylsong’s videos on how to make cooking scenes smoldering hot instead of goody-goody-two-shoes cute.
@kennylsong has great editing skills, too. (I was suddenly reminded of KiHo from “Castaway Diva.”)
I like how he synchronized the kitchen sounds of chopping, whisking, pounding, sizzling, and bubbling to the background music.ย It made his shorts (“short clips” not his underpants, ok?) more mesmerizing.
And his tagline at the end — “You want some?” — is hysterical. He was referring to the food, of course. But come on, now, we’re not that innocent. We know that he was implicitly inviting us to OGLE at him at work in the kitchen.
I don’t mind if I do.
Oh he got me at japchae. ๐๐ then second is the mapo tofu. Heaven for me but not too chilly ok. ๐
Correction, I cook because I have to. ๐ I wish Iโm a good cook like my Mom and sisters. ๐
Thank you! I enjoyed this! ๐ช๐ช๐ช
Haha! I thought of you as soon as I watched the clips.
Although I like the male lead in “Dating in the Kitchen,” I could imagine this guy with Zhao Lusi in a remake.
Did you see his scrambled eggs? I wasn’t surprised with the tomatoes and green onions. (I would have added mushroom, spinach, and bacon bits)
But when he used the concoction as topping on RICE??!! Whoa. Didn’t see that coming. Lol.

Wait. Have you seen this guy’s channel before??!
Ya, havenโt we Asian-ised you yet with rice? ๐ You should try it. ๐
But I have to agree with the mushroom, bacon and spinach. I should try all those together. Thanks! Youโve given me another version of scrambled eggs. ๐
Ooh Lusi and this guy cooking in the kitchen? Yes please. ๐
No I havenโt. This was my first time seeing him and his videos. Why? ๐
I felt like he should have warned me about the rice. ๐๐ I have eggs, tomatoes, green onions ready. But rice?! Iโll have to run to the store to get some, then rinse it (like how many times again? A million?) and pressure-cook it. Iโll take me practically the whole afternoon just to cook rice while the omelette can be done in 15. ๐ตโ๐ซ
Because you already saw the tofu vid.
I eat tofu but I think I like the hard tofu and the crunchy tofu instead of soggy tofu in soups.
๐ Thereโs Korean rice thatโs individually portioned and you just put on microwave for 2 minutes? I see it here at Costco, maybe check your Costco? ๐ No cooking required.
I can email you what it looks like. ๐
We rinse jasmine rice twice only. Thatโs how I do it. With basmati, I rinse it three times. You donโt need to pressure cook it. โบ๏ธ
I love anything tofu. ๐ฅฐ I especially love agedashi tofu and fried tofu with salted egg yolk. I donโt eat them all the time ok. ๐
I just saw the pork mince, chilli and the tofu so I thought it must be mapo tofu. ๐
I’ve been following this guy on Instagram for a while ๐
Hi @pkml3, oh dear, it’s half past 11 at night and now I’m hungry too!!! LOL.
I love the confidence of on camera cooks. I never look so self-assured in the kitchen!
@agdr03
I have gotten totally spoiled with Annie chin brand of instant sticky white rice
I started following Kenny on tiktok when I was looking for a moon cake recipe I (delusionally) thought I could make.
Annyeong ~
someday – i will make Japchae. I had my mom do it for their Christmas dinner. There were leftovers. It was good – proud of my Mama. She normally cooks Pancit – filipino noodles or chow mein like.
i think i have seen this guy but i don’t follow him.
how about Lee Junho cooking in King The land or Lee Min Ho in The King: Eternal Monarch?? both shows have “king” in them ๐
@birdie007, hi! The Annie Chun rice is the same as the Korean brand that I mentioned. Itโs available at Amazon Australia here but itโs a little bit more. For 6 packs, itโs about $33, the other one is 12 for $22. ๐
@packmule3, I’ve seen some of his videos on YouTube. They are well designed and made to make him as intriguing as his food. Ahem.
BTW @pkml3, I guess I should leave you a gentle reminder to set the Rewatch Party thread to come up tonight or tomorrow.
It’s rainy and gloomy and so I’m choosing good weather icons and Friday snacky goods and drinks.

I find I have to do a lot more JOMO-ing than drama-watching, but I will at least keep up with my Rewatces!! ๐๐

One good turn deserves another. I was looking for yummy gifs on the internet for you, @GB.
Thanks @pkml3! You seem to locate very appropriate gifs. I’m personally fine with just an image of sorts that does not have to be a moving picture. I tend to position my page so that the gifs get hidden after a while of seeing it on repeat! ๐คช
Gosh…you all had me hungry in the middle of the night. Even though I cook all mapo tofu (miso version cos my kids aren’t chilli fans) and tomato eggs (classic chinese dish) but if I have someone cook for me…ooo heaven!
I’m envious of people with video editing and production skills, timing and sounds and clipping at the right time. So enjoyable to watch!
Who else cooks well?
Thanks @pkml3! Have greatly enjoyed these of Kenny and love some of the other shorts on YouTube as well, especially some the comedians. Going back to KennySong he is quite skilled in packaging so much in so little timeโฆromcom aura and vibes chef!! Iโm especially interested in video of him making steamed eggs. I think they are delicious and never knew of them until my interest in Kdramaland. Love his chopping skills and liberal use of garlic and green onions.
BTW, thanks to you I have had fun sending clips of him to some of my friends who both love to cook and appreciate a handsome chef as a bonus. ๐ง๐ซ๐ฅ๐ณ๐๐
