Anybody with access to Disney+ and other streaming site showing “The Impossible Heir,” please update us. I’d like to know whether this kdrama is worth reviewing or not. Muchas gracias!
Starring Lee JunYoung (“May I Help You?”) as the illegitimate son of the chairman of some conglomerate. He teams up with his gifted best friend played by Lee JaeWook (“Alchemy of Souls”) to claim his spot in the family empire. They’re joined by a female ( don’t know her) who has an axe to grind with the conglomerate. I hope the two men don’t have to fight over her.

Enjoy the show!
Kalimera @Packmule3!
Thank you for the thread!
I will be watching this so, I will try to update as much as I can.
We will be watching one episode per week…
Thank you. I’ll wait to see if I can view this as we don’t have Disney. It may come up on Viki later.
Hey @Fern,
“The Impossible Heir” and “Wonderful World” that starts this Friday, are Disney Plus Originals so I don’t think they will come on Viki.
@packmule3: thank you!!
@cleo: I quickly checked the kdrama news after you mentioned on the other thread! 0.o indeed. Will be watching this show with ya.
@Swiss_postscripts,
Dispatch and its dating revealing posts…
We are going to focus on the show. Afterall, we just want them to be happy, as commoners are.
@cleo: absolutely – let’s enjoy the show together!
“What never?”
“No, never.”
“What never?”
“Well, hardly ever.”
😄⚓
@Cleo, I may be able to find it somewhere, sometime. Wish me luck.
@Fern,
😂😁😁
I am wishing you luck! You will watch it!
@Swiss_postscripts,
Let’s do that! 🎈
I want to watch it too, but it is on Disney, alas…I will follow the comments hoping that one day the stars will align and I will be able to watch it.
I checked Hulu – the first episode will drop tomorrow at 12 am! Yay!
@goodtwin: yay! glad u found another platform, have you started?
@fern @snowflower: hope you both will also find a way to catch the show!
@cleo: i just finished the first episode and thought I’d share some quick thoughts?
– the desperation impetus is very clear for both boys, Taeho and Inha
– the bromance looks slightly one sided but I guess these are early days before Taeho can reap his gains off Inha (he’s gotta get Inha to manifest golden rope status)
– but i had really hoped that the Show wouldn’t make the boys fight over a girl (Hyewon) but this is only first ep so we will see how her character and the trio’s dynamic develops
shallow thoughts:
– taeho’s/LJW’s eyes! 😍
– I found it awfully weird to see them in high school uniform (they just didn’t look age appropriate!), so was relieved that the high school age was short lived and they time skipped to university age
Kalispera!
So, we have two episodes per Week. It started with a bang.
Lee Jae Wook aka Han Tae Oh and Lee Jun Young aka Kang In Ha make a very good duo. They have been planning for almost a decade, in order to succeed what they want to do.
We have a dysfunctional chaebol family. The Chairman has married twice. His firstborn is Kang In Joo and he is married. From his second wife aka the Mother, his children are : Kang Sung Joo and person Ommeoni wants to become the Heir and Kang Hee Joo. He also has an illegimate son who is Kang In Ha.
Although, he is living in the shadows and not being acknowledged by his family. He has a partnership with the genious Han Tae Oh. This started from their Highschool years and we get to see their University years until 5 years later.
Han Tae Oh. His mother was almost killed by his stepfather. The man is in prison and his mother has been in hiding ever since. He is trying to get away from that miserable life. We don’t know who his father is.
I cannot also find anywhere information regarding the Webtoon. So, his parentage is a mystery.
Na Hye Won. Her mother steals from people and from her. We see her relationship, both with In Ha and Tae Oh. She is a wildcat so far.
As for the beginning of Episode 1, it remains to be seen what happened and why.
Kalimera,
Let me correct something. The show is an original and not based on a Webtoon.
I got confused because I saw some collages with webtoon pictures along with photographs from the 3 main leads. After some search, I found out an article where the production asked some artists to make the trio into webtoon material, but on facebook they didn’t say anything about it.
Has anyone else watched the first two episodes?
Wow! I am hooked. I haven’t read any comments yet because it was one of the very few dramas where I didn’t want any spoilers. Hulu is releasing one episode on Wed and one episode on Thursday. I think everywhere else two episodes are getting released on Wednesday so there is a bit of a delay on Hulu.
I will read everyone’s comments now.
I have to say the two Impossible dramas airing – Impossible Heir and Wedding Impossible couldn’t be more different in tone but have the same underlying struggle – the illegitimate child trying to take over the company. I am really enjoying both.
Initial thoughts on Impossible Heir:
I find it compelling and addictive. This plays as a prestige drama but other than a heavy handed OST – I think they have been measured in not making it too stylized.
The two leads are both top notch actors – they completely inhabit their roles. I have seen criticism of the FL – but that is her character, she is shutdown emotionally and calculating.
How an actor runs can make or break a performance for me (ML in Romance is a Bonus Book as an example of bad running). LJW running at the end of episode 2 was great.
I can’t stop seeing transitions since @packmule3’s post. There is a lot of abrupt fades to black between scenes – maybe this is where the commercials are being aired? The one match cut transition that I noticed was the 5 years later placard, cutting to the 5 year anniversary sign unfolding.
There are many images of the characters walking in different directions – going up the stairs, while another is going down the stairs or the scene in the library where the FL goes one way, Tae-oh walks the other way, and In Ha is behind the curtain. This demonstrates that despite appearances they are not as united as it would seem and the united friendship/partnership will likely be splintered by the different motivations of all of the characters.
SLIGHT SPOILERs ahead:
Tae-Oh’s brush off of little sister seems seriously short-sighted. On the one hand he needed to be firm and make sure she was under no illusion about his feelings or a potential relationship; on the other hand, he seemed unnecessarily cruel and, given his long-term plans, might have created an enemy within the family.
Areas where need to suspend disbelief:
Tae-Oh becoming the tutor to In Ha’s little sister. Uh background checks anyone?
Tae-Oh writing the business plan for the Kang conglomerate.
I watched the first episode and find it ominous but very well acted. The triangle is making me uneasy. The background and desperation of both men is making me uneasy, their partnership is only strong on the surface. The characters are both interesting and grey.
@Fern I rewatched the first episode because I felt like I missed something in the conversation between Tae-oh and FL. And forehead slap the opening scene which I somehow forgot – there is a man and a woman lying on the ground. We will eventually find out who it is but it could be In Ha and Na Hyewon. Definitely don’t think this will have a happy ending . . .
Agree that the characters are interesting and gray.
Tae-oh and Na Hyewon seem calculating. In Ha seems like he just wants attention and to be loved.
Another theory ahead
I’m wondering if it is possible that the two are actually brothers. Tae-oh said he moved to the rural town because it was his mother’s home town. It is also where the Kang estate is located. TO mentions that his step father is not his father. TO also rejects little sister who has a crush on him. He was right to shut her down because she is too young, because she is part of the Kang family and they’ll ruin him and because she is not part of his plan. But he also might have shut it down because she is his half sister. Anyway, I’m definitely intrigued.
@Good Twin, did you notice the look on Tae-oh’s face when he watched the fireworks in the 1st eposide? It wasn’t amazement, delight or even interest, it was more like horror or shock. Also, from the moment when the realtor (or seller of the house) told him about In Ha, he seemed to absorb it and store it.
This drama is very different from the usual fare.
Does Hulu offer free trial? I may subscribe just to watch this.
Thanks @pcm for the this thread and for helping me to realise the second ML (Lee Jun Young) is not Lee Do Hyun! 😅
Great acting from both MLs. I hope their friendship endures, and is not ruined over a girl!
@Good Twin I’ll have to rewatch the first episode too, I did not catch that!
i’ve caught up to the latest episodes and the series has got me glued. although i feel there are some gaps caused by the time leaps which i feel need some addressing:
1. so how are hyewon and inha as a couple?
2. the rooftop meetings between taeho and inha.. are they both encouraging this?
3. is it really possible that the three of them can meet all the time at inha’s place without people tailing them?
4. surely connections have been drawn between taeho and inha since taeho got found out as huiju’s math teacher
am also raring to see how Inha flexs his own smarts in the eps to come. I like Taeho’s masterminding but I’d like to see more of the other ML too!
So far, I am enjoying Tae Oh’s chess game. He is really something!
As for InHa, I didn’t like that he yelled at Tae Oh. We have seen that so far everything has to do with Tae Oh’s masterminding as @swiss_postscripts wrote above, but we haven’t seen them really having a plan b just in case something goes wrong.
Tae Oh is working along with his InHa’s father and he has to maintain a facade. Although, he told him that his loyalty belongs somewhere else.
The fact that the first born, kept repeating that Han Tae Oh acts like a Kang Tae Oh could / would be foreshadowing?
Yes, there is a theory that says that Tae Oh didn’t reveal who his real father is, but at the same time, the Chairman wouldn’t know if Tae Oh’s mother was an ex-girlfriend?
I am glad that Tae Oh asked as a leverage from the Chairman his help, if he may need it in the future.
As for InHa, we learned that his mother committed suicide most likely because of pressure. We don’t know who is yet to blame, although the Chairman and his current wife could be the culprits. In Ha primary concern is to be acknowledged by the world as the Chairman’s son, but IH seems to bear a grudge against them as well.
@Swiss_postscripts I saw the preview and the connections will be made in this week’s episodes most likely by their ex Professor. He must reveal that they were best friends to the Chairman. I think they will anticipate that part. I mean seriously, InHa will enter in the lion’s den to prove himself as the KangOh’s HEIR.
As I have read on MDL, Hulu made a mistake again with Episode 5-8’s summaries.
From what I have gathered on X, as it seems Tae Oh will lose his memory and he will go to jail. As It seems, he was framed.
At the same time, today Disney Plus uploaded a new Trailer on You Tube, where Tae Oh will make a counterattack.
Who is going to betray him? 😨😧😧
@cleo, thanks for the heads-up! taeho plays the long game, he is patient and calculated in his moves. So to see that he gets betrayed and how he recovers ground and recalibrates will be fun to watch. shall be tuning in tonight!
At the end of ep 6, we got to see who was murdered during the first scene.. It was the eldest Kang son and a random girl.. I think Tao Oh is framed because he was waking up then found the murder weapon in his hands….
