I’m sure you all know how crazy it’s been here where I am. To be honest, I can’t say that I was blind-sided or caught off-guard by the turn of events. I see it like a carbuncle that needed to be lanced in order for cure, healing and regrowth to occur. I trust the process although it’s exhausting at the moment. I remain ever hopeful that reasonable people will prevail and find a way forward.
That said, I need kdramas now more than ever for distraction, escapism, and levity. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks y’all!
Aside from my current fave on Netflix, “Miss Night and Day,” I only have one on my list this month. I’ve been waiting for this.
Serendipity’s Embrace
A short write-up from soompi:
Based on a popular webtoon, “Serendipity’s Embrace” will tell the story of young people finding true love and their dreams after accidentally running into their first love from 10 years ago. Kim So Hyun stars as Lee Hong Joo, an animation producer who is afraid of love due to painful memories from her previous relationship—and who undergoes an unexpected change after running into Kang Hoo Young (Chae Jong Hyeop), who witnessed some of her lowest moments from her past.
Starring: Kim So Hyun (“Lovely Liar”) and Chae Jong Hyeop (“Castaway Diva”)
Episodes: 8
Start Date: Monday, July 22
Airs on Mondays and Tuesdays
Where to Watch it: Viki?
Network: tvN
What are you watching this month?
Kalo mesimeri @Packmule3! Happy 4th of July!
I am coming from a hectic May. So far, there are days, that I am enjoying JOMO.
The only shows I am watching are the following:
1. My Sweet Mobster.
I am here for the Moster boss!
2. The Double C-Drama on Viki (BTW, Netflix took its licence too.)
I totally enjoying this one! I can say that I am hooked, although I haven’t been able to move forward in Episode 25!
What I have my eyes on:
1. My Princess Royal C Drama. Since yesterday it is on Viki.
2. Sweet Home Season 3.
I don’t know if I am going to watch everything, but those shows I want to watch this month and the next…
*Sending Hugs @Packmule3! <3
Howdy! 🤗 I hope and pray that a good enough outcome will happen. 🙏🏼
Do enjoy this kdrama when it comes out ok. 😉 Interesting that it’s only 8 episodes. I’ll check it out too.
Other than that, I’m hooked with the cdrama, The Double. ☺️
I started watching My Incomplete Life. It is very slow moving and has 20 episodes, but since it is all about office life, I am interested to see that side of Korean culture. I feel much empathy for the newbies in the office.
Thanks @pkml3! Hi @agdr03 and @Cleo,
I’ve heard good things about the shows you’re watching or which you are interested in watching. I personally don’t have time to watch too much as I’ll be away for a week.
Serendipity’s Embrace sounds like I might like it… I watched Chae Jong Hyeop in the Jdorama, “Eye Love You” and a few other shows and am very taken with him, hence for a change, I will watch for an actor although I don’t mind the premise too. 🙂
I’ll complete Joy of Life 2 and The Tale of Rose very slowly, and am still waiting for the subbed version of Wonderland. I watched it raw (yes Gong Yoo does appear but only briefly here and there) and read reviews and agree to an extent, but I’d like to watch it subbed to get more nuances if any. I feel that perhaps it should have been a mini-series of about 4 episodes.
Catch you all later!
@Cleo, I’m watching My Sweet Mobster too and like it a lot. It is so sweet and I am pleased that I guessed the twist before the reveal.
My only grouse is that I never cared for the prosecutor actor who looks as if he had plastic surgery even years ago. He’s always struck me as looking literally ‘plastic’ and stiff.
That aside, I like the ensemble and the OTP. 🙂
Dear All, I’m continuing to watch The Double – about 3/4 of the way through atm. It’s on Viki, YouTube and starting on Netflix as well. I am also enjoying Miss Night and Day on Netflix, mostly for the older version of the FL who is fabulous — she must be so much fun in real life. The other lead actors are very good as well.
Serendipity’s Embrace sounds very good; thanks for the blurb, @packmule3. I hope you are having a great day. It’s election day in the UK and it looks like leadership will change, but it’s too early to tell.
I finished rewatching Just Between Lovers. Currently watching Come and Hug Me and Battlestar Galactica.
Greetings BODers!
I’m still watching My Favorite Mobster – this is a drama that could be shorter I think but I’m still enjoying the Thirsty Deer ensemble.
Still watching Miss Night and Day – interesting that the 3 person prosecuter’s office dynamic in MND and MFB are almost identical.
Watching the Chinese drama As Beautiful as You for now. If I am still watching 40 episodes from now remains to be seen.
Serendipity’s Embrace looks promising.
And I will tune in to this potential gem – The Pork Cutlet. Description copied from Soompi: “‘The Pork Cutlets’ is a human comedy short drama that depicts the humorous story of Onghwa Village and its village chief Jung Ja Wang (Jung Sang Hoon), who championed a neutering surgery for the village’s Casanova dog Baek Gu, only to end up getting a vasectomy himself overnight.”
Seriously this ☝️is makes me laugh and also makes me think I could write a kdrama. It sounds like a mashup of Chicken Cutlet and Behind Your Touch – drama gods please make it good!
@Snow Flower – Battlestar Gallectica – so good. Google the Portlandia sketch on the couple who sit down to watch just a little bit of the first episode. Two weeks later …..
Hi All. Am rewatching Extraordinary Attorney Woo. I am Partial to the story and am a big Pàrk Eun-bin fan and think the ML, Kamg Tae-oh has a great future. The drama treats ASD with great respect and I find the cases presented and our heroine’s inspirations depicted by whales to be charming. .y experience with ASD tells me that the creators of this drama did their homework and did not sensationalize our FL, giving her a full range of human emotions and allowing her to love and be loved
There will be a second season
s PRk Eun-bin is an award winner for her acting
As somebody with intimate knowledge of ASD, I know that it is not uncommon for people with ASD to achieve academically and professionally with the right supports in place like Attorney Woo’s Dad.My son graduated from University with a business degree magna cum laude and is now working as a financial auditor He recently received a promotion In addition he lives in apartment he owns outright. So our drama is not farfetched. And it is also possible for these people to show empathy. As this is on the spectrum one probably not assume that everyone has the same affect
It is also possible that someone with ASD can appear normal(whatever that is)
.
@Good Twin, the Battlestar Galactica sketch is so spot on! My husband and I are having exactly the same experience, except that we paid our electric bill. Or did we? I don’t remember now. Just one more episode…
Korean Dramas in july I want to check out:
Serendipity’s Embrace (Viki) – Hopefully the second chance at love rom com will be good!
Chinese Dramas in July I want to check out:
The princess Royal (VIU and Viki) – Really excited by this drama! I like the lead actors. The clips look good. It’s another rebirth story but the twist is Both ML and FL are reborn. Looks to have a nice balance between palace politics and romance.
Hi BODers! Sorry for the prolonged reticence at my end. I’ve been watching mostly C-dramas these past months – watching the Legend of Heroes at the moment (it’s an adaption of the Condor Heroes if you’re familiar w the literature). Mostly watching it for Zhou Yi Wei who I watched in Judge Dee’s Mystery (also another C-drama and also based on semi-autobiographical literature).
I also have my eye on The Double and The Princess Royal!
One more thing, I Am loving. miss Night and Day
I have been a fan of Lee Jung-eun since I started watching K dramas and movies. Yay Ms Lee!
hello packmule and BOD member!
I hope you all have a great month..
this month I will still watch My Sweet Mobster. I am officially attracted to this Um Tae Goo.. where have I been? I just know that he exists..
and I am patiently waiting for Cha Jeong Hyeop and Kim So Hyun duo in their new drama. This year 2024 drama theme somehow would be “Romance” for me. And I don’t mind. hahaha.. I am happy to see many love on screen.
I think I will watch Miss Night and Day, after all episodes completed. I want to binge watching it.. haha..
thanks, @DianaGarcia.
Dear @PackMule3, @GoodTwin, @OldAmericanLady, @Cleopatra, @Fern, @SnowFlower, @Table122000, @MoonStar512, @DianaGarcía and especially @GrowingBeautifully, how have you been?.
I have been writing my novel. You could say that even if the page count is still low (74 pages in the Word file so far), handwriting the general ideas and gripping with order and structure has been a delicious headache.
I am about to finish “366 Nichi” (2024) with Hirose Alice. The biggest star is her younger sister Hirose Suzu, yet it seems I am attracted to her work. Last year we had a “Shitsuren Meshi” (2022) post that was my birthday gift ^_^ (Thank you very much!!!). A little bit of a tearjerker, as Alice’s in-story boyfriend suffers an accident that keeps him comatose. Will the person she has longed for since her high school years ever wake up? Regrettably I can’t discuss more without spoiling your potential view now that I may have opened your appetite.
On the other hand I am still dealing with a Drama with a similar theme, “Unmet: Aru Nogekai no Nikki” (2024). The main character is a Neurosurgeon that had an accident that makes her memory reset every morning, so she has to rely on her diary to walk through her life. She have demoted herself from brilliant neurosurgeon to nurse, as she fears her memory impairment could kill someone in the operating room. That character is BRILLIANT and I can wholeheartedly recommend this show up to Episode 5 that is the last I have watched. The subplot about the general directors of the Hospital system (conglomerate?) she works in conspiring for her not to get her memory back dampens my enjoyment. That said I love the main character so much that in the back of my head I still scream “YAY, SHE WILL RECOVER!!!”.
Sorry for being so forlorn. I love you all and I miss you, I am just entangled into my own creative process.
@FGB4877, how fabulous to hear from you, and that you are writing. I feel a near motherly pride that you are doing this – it’s not an easy process. I wish you every success and also joy in the process itself.
Thank you for the recommendations. I will see if I can find the doramas. I never was able to find the Jitterbug drama on the sites I use.
Hello my dear @FGB! As always, I’m so glad to hear from you! What wonderful news that you are writing creatively and that you are enjoying the painstaking process. It’s so good that you are able to put ideas into words that fill many pages. It is almost like raising a child, the process of growing your tale and bringing it to fullness, sometimes with its cooperation and sometimes without.
Thank you for your succinct reviews and teasers for more Jdoramas. I will look for them when I can and try to watch, because I know your tastes in shows accord well with mine.
Until I read you again, take care and be safe!
Hi @FGB4877! Nice to see you here. Good luck on your writing! Thanks for the Japanese Drama recommendations. I believe “366 Nichi” will be coming to Viki, but no premiere date given so not sure when it will be available there.I am trying to watch some older Japanese shows over at Netflix. I have “Trillion Game” and “Quartet” in my Watchlist, and am about halfway through “My Happy Marriage” anime.
Kalimera Unnie!
I am good, but I am practicing JOMO lately.
I am watching “The Double” and “My Sweet Mobster” but I am taking my time at the same time!
I feel that the Prosecutor is a kinda too righteous and easy to jump to conclusions. We shall see how that will go!
Are you okay? I read that you are busy!
Kalimera @FGB!
Those are good news! I do hope you will let us know about your book, when it will be printed! I will buy it with my eyes closed!
I do hope you are okay too! I miss you here and there… *smiles*
My dear @OAL!
It is good to see your name appearing again on B.o.D!
How are you? Did you do your surgery? How is your husband?
Hi @Cleopatra, So happy to be commenting again and to be hearing from you. I hope all is well. My husband is stable. He is due for follow up medical care but so far so good.
I’ve been lurking around BOD to keep up with current programing and to learn about what may strike my fancy. I use about three streaming services and find that there is so much to choose from that it’s like being a kid in a candy shop.
Hi @pm3 and BODers!!
Hope everyone is doing well.
@FGB4877 hope to be able to catch your novel when it is out!! All the best with your writing. May the words flow well!
I’m only watching The Princess Royal and caught up to mid way this week until the latest episodes. It is a rebirth story but more than one person is reborn….with their memories. So it makes it pretty interesting. Love the couple banter. imagine 40yos in their 20yo body with the wisdom, jadedness and learning how to love again. We have a strong rational female character with a smart talented and heart warming male character that you will fall in love with.
I wish I can talk more about this but I’m not being really good at reading a lot lately. Only stealing the extra watch at night before I sleep.
I’m watching nothing. Just coming here to say hello to BODers.
@FGB, nice to see you do something creative. Page count isn’t that important? Often, it tends to reduce after proofreading, during editing and “trim the fat”.
Happy July everyone! I am currently watching NO kdramas. (I’ve put My Sweet Mobster on hold because the push-pull between the ML and FL was getting repetitive. I plan to go back to it when there are more episodes and I can zip through them.) I started to watch CLOY, as I do every couple of years, but found myself zipping through the subplots with Seo Dan and Cheol Gang—and then I realized I couldn’t watch the ending again. It’s too unsatisfying/heartbreaking. It will always have a special place in my heart since it was my first kdrama, but now I can watch it with slightly more critical/more experienced eyes.
Meanwhile I am looking at some of the British shows I’ve missed in the last couple of years and watching more movies, as I am wont to do in the summer.
Really, every show I’ve tried to watch has been a bit of a disappointment, coming down from the high of Lovely Runner! So if someone discovers a show—old or new—that they are excited about, please let me know!
@BethB, there are tons of older excellent dramas. By the way, they are better than anything we get now. Just sort my dramalist and pick up 9+, or even 8+ :
https://mydramalist.com/dramalist/7647047
Current live watches:
1) My Sweet Mobster (everyone rocks in this show)
2) Miss Night & Day (casual watch, am here for Miss Day)
Others: (Netflix drops)
1) The Double (great casual watch, brisk pacing intelligent FL)
2) Whirlwind (from my fav political thriller writer)
Blast from the Past
1) That winter, the wind blows
My favourite is of course My Sweet Mobster (which I re-watch whilst waiting for the live episodes) This may shape up to be one of my all-time favourite romcoms, not just for 2024
I’m watching Lost You Forever part 2. They downplayed Xiang Liu and Xiao Yao’s relationship that some viewers feel that her being suddenly interested in XL comes from nowhere.
I have put Come and Hug Me on hold and started watching 18 Again.
Battlestar Galactica still going strong.
Annyeong BOD’s ~ 🌴
Gosh July already!
Thanks @pm3 -will check Serendipity when it comes out.
I’m all caught up with Miss DAY and night. I started it then paused it … then resumed it and now, I can’t get enough of it. It’s hilarious! I’m literally LOL. 😂
For oldies- I’m watching “the good doctor” with Lee Minho 😍. Not too excited about it but just watching for LMH haha. Sigh. Good action/fighting parts for sure
I finished My Mister – such a morose show – you feel bad for all characters -yes I cried- but good open ending for our leads. Very good show overall and good acting from the cast.
I also rewatched TKEM for the 4th time🤓 and loved it all the more 😀 like it made more sense without thinking too much haha
@HK_Lady,
The Good Doctor (Faith) was the first drama I ever watched. I had no idea who LMH was, but I thought he looked good in armor. I was hooked from Episode 1 and have been watching dramas ever since.
I’m continuing with My Sweet Mobster which has been delightful. I like how the characters are reasonable, the turn of events and the perfectly realistic decisions that are made. The reference to Covid-19 got me rolling on the floor laughing out loud (ROFLOL).
I forgot to mention that I stumbled upon Love Reset a k-movie of a couple that got married and who decided to get divorced. I liked that it was smartly done, had nice movie-making touches, and was able to squeeze months of story into a 2-hour movie without feeling rushed. It even had moments of humour that bowled me over. 🙂
@ SF I have watched faith the great doctor a few Times. I enjoyed their relationship but there was not enough of it. Mostly I enjoyed LMH In armor!
It is probably one of My least favorite shows I repeatedly watch hoping each time it will be better😄.
Yes the first episode was a great hook!
Hi BOD group. This is not a drama but a recommendation for filling in. My husband and I watch people walking around various cities and places. For BOD I would recommend Action Kid. He started by walking around New York but has also done Miami where I think he now lives and he’s also done a stint in Asia(Taiwan mainly). He is Chinese American.if you want to do City neighborhood tours he’s great. And if you want to do food tours, try
UA Eats lHe is also Asian American and his food reviews don’t seem like he was compensated. These two ate useful if you ate considering travel to New York. As a native New Yorker who has lived in four of the five boroughs and spent considerable time in all of them I think these two young men would entertain you.
Is anyone watching Lost You Forever 2? I’ve started it and feel like binging it. It has carried on exactly from where it left off and continues with the same feel and style since the entire 62 episodes of both seasons were shot in one time.
I’m pleased to hear the same familiar melodies and a new one here and there.
It’s good for the exploration of the relationships and the consequences of not letting go of the person whom one is not meant to have. This season will have more in the way of politicking but I actually found it interesting, and want to know how Cang Xuan navigates the mountains of ‘wild beasts’ and ‘shark infested’ waters.
Ultimately it is also about whether Xiao Yao ever does end up not alone and abandoned as she has felt, and if so, with whom.
I am enjoying as beautiful as you. It is rather tropey but I am enjoying the development of the relationship and the acting. Some of the dialogue and relationship building I think is well done. The workplace part is about three d printing of medical devices , which I find interesting.
I binge watched signal for maybe the third time and still think it is one of the best korean dramas I have seen.
I would Like to start a chinese drama but i’m afraid of becoming overly immersed. My.
Choices are double, Lost you forever, And Royal princess.
Oh yes and my sweet mobster.
Oh, and about all those rain storms I was enjoying this morning. We have been out of power for the afternoon and there is flooding in several parts of the city☺️
@MM, I’m glad that you’re enjoying the rain as well. As you can imagine, I get a lot of them from time to time. Very torrential ones that fill up the large water collecting containers outside. The irony is that now that we’ve installed awnings to keep the rain from beating against the windows/doors, we’ve been waiting for one of those storms to show us if the awnings are effective or not, but we’ve not had anything other than drizzles!!! LOL Not only drama-watching but even weather-watching frustrates!! 😂🤣
Yes , rainstorms are an opportunity to see how well one’s house deals with rain. Our gutters were overflowing at several points. Too many maple leaves in the eave’s troughs Even though we had them cleaned out at least twice this year!
It Was also an opportunity to read a book, Not Having any internet.
The irony here is that when we were on the west coast it was sunny the whole time and now we are back here and getting rained on. There is no rhyme or reason to the weather anymore.
Hi all. I haven’t read BOD much due to much travel in the last month (across the pond to sing with a choir! ; and a long road trip out west). I have been immersed in the Double like many of you — I find I want to pace myself so as to not finish too early — and have been dipping in and out of other dramas I never quite finished. I will be joining the Signal rewatch today after a month long break.
@FGB so glad to hear you are writing! It is definitely an iterative process. I too have been writing, just finished the first draft of a chapbook of poetry that still needs revision but is (perhaps) nearing completion. I find myself at a bit of a loss though as to what is next. What has most struck me though is how different revision is from writing; more like my former job, it relies more heavily on logic and careful thinking and less on capturing the emotion. Anyway good luck! So good to hear from you.
So nice to read everyone here after quite a while 💖 I’m watching nothing and have nothing on the list. Although…. Serendipity’s embrace seems to be on everyone’s list ? I’ll be sure it check it out.
Pm3… We all hope that please, may reasonable outcomes prevail.
@WEnchanteur thanks for the link to your lists. We have some similar tastes, but it looks like I like some shows that you’ve hated or dropped (e.g., Goblin) or have dropped some that you’ve given high ratings to (like The Glory, which I couldn’t get through. I’m not a fan of the FL’s acting and I found the bullying too brutal). However, it’s always good to get someone else’s perspective!
Is anyone planning to watch the Yumi’s Cells movie? I loved Yumi’s Cells but am not sure how the story would work if it’s entirely animation. One thing I loved about the show was to see human Yumi’s human interactions and then see the contrast with what was happening on the cell(ular) level.
I tried to watch Tale of Nokdu this month. I saw that it had a lot of posts on BOD, which I usually take as a good sign (although Little Women had 21 posts here and @pm3 ultimately gave it an “M” rating, which she said was lower than an “F”!). I found the cross-dressing in the widow’s village fun and then it took a left turn and became a series of sword fights and assassination attempts, just after one of the main characters gleefully murders a child. Perhaps I should have assumed it would be like this since the show starts with a sword fighting attack on Nokdu’s family. I grow weary of a storyline when it’s fight after fight–and the ML manages to survive multiple slashes, knock-outs, etc. (without getting an infection sans antibiotics!). So I dropped it around episode 10, read some recaps and synopses, and picked it back up around episode 30, waiting for a happy ending. I can’t believe it’s tagged as a romantic comedy on Viki!
I did go back to My Sweet Mobster since I had no other kdramas queued up. It’s cute but there really isn’t much plot. I like the Thirsty Deer guys. I also like seeing an adult (SL) couple in a kdrama who actually have had sex, like they would in the real world, instead of just chaste kisses. But there’s very little conflict or anything that would push a plot along.
I’ve also picked up a Japanese show on Prime called “Map for the Wedding.” I’m only in the first episode but it seems like it will be an easy watch. [I wonder what the percentage of Japanese shows are about arranged marriages, including marriage lotteries? It’s a high percentage of what I’ve watched (but then, I avoid violent dramas.) It makes Japan look like such a lonely place to live for single people. I’ll note here if I end up hating it or dropping it.
Hi @BethB and BOD in general, I’m just going to recommend a lovely YouTube of Park Bo Gum and Suzy doing a duet of There I go and spoil it all I love you. They have wonderful stage presence. Bo Gum plays the keyboard and they mention that he played on the military where they emphasize how difficult it is to be accepted into military band. I can see where they’d be shipped but we all know it’s talent. They can sell any song. Not to mention that they are visually beautiful.
I hardly ever watch something for an actor, and especially if it’s a drama of a genre that does not normally entice me… however, I’m tempted to take a peak at this one for not 1 but 2 and maybe even 3 actors…. guess which 3!!!
I can’t say I don’t watch this kind of action, predator/hitman and prey-chasing dramas entirely, so I’m quite ready to try, especially since the lineup of actors gets me wanting to see them in action.
Thanks to @kfangurl who posted this (I just copy-pasted it) on the patreon platform linked to her blog.

Annyeong again BOD’s 💛
@snowflower and @monmor – “The Great Doctor” and LMH in armour before he changed his face hihi. My first encounter with drama is Cdrama with “Boys over Flowers” then that got me into the Kdrama version THEN i was hooked haha. I don’t think i’ll ever rewatch this show. The ending left me so unsatisfied.
I’m so into MY SWEET MOBSTER – omg. a show i started, then resumed.
and still watching “Miss Day and night”— oooh we finally got the confession from My Gye 💗 and a kiss. ohh la la.
I am rewatching “strong girl bong soon” and just focusing on scenes with PSH and PBY ♥ haha They make me happy 💙
@GB, the roulette looks like the kind of drama I could easely watch.
@BethB, there are good classics I didn’t watch yet, so not on my list (I think about Jumong). I watched all Glory and liked, same writer than Goblin, that (it’s a known fact) I found boring. For various reasons, it happens I don’t end a drama, so in “on-hold” you can have excellent dramas. For example Queen Seon Deok.
Tales of Nokdu: Nothing great, still not bad. First part is lot of comedy, and second part is dramatic where love story and emotions stands better than what I expected. I mostly forgot the drama now. It’s too light for a historical.
Hi @WE, it would be great if we could watch Roulette live and chat about it! 🙂
@SF HKL Ijust finished a rewatch of Legend of the Blue Sea. Your comments above about The Great Doctor promptd me to rewatch the first EPISODE. It was even funnier than I remember with details I did not catch at the time.
Thr stakes are high-the existence of Korea. The characters are efficienly given back stories. Interesting historical points like her fortune being read in Hanja rather than Hangul.
Of course the scenes at the convention hall are ridiculously funny.
How he carries her caveman style mixed with sort of asking her permission and promising on his honour that he will return her.
How the ex bf tries to console her by saying the woman he is marrying is not as pretty and has a terrible temper but she does have real estate in Gagnam.
Details like we see her taking one of the pills for a headache that becomes a talisman between them.
I know this show has lovers and haters. I have always fallen in the unsure camp despite multipe watches. I may be headed for another rewatch!
Maybe it is not only the armour but a before face LMH that makes him seem more manly.
I have always loved the ost to Faith.
@monmor,
I have not rewatched Faith, but your comments make me want to do it sometime. This was my introduction to kdramas, so everything felt fresh and new and exciting. I have watched many better dramas since, but I still have a soft spot for Faith.
I remember wondering about what was Goryeo. It took me several episodes to figure out! But I also remember looking up King Gongmin and Lee Seung Gye, my first step into the rabbit hole of Korean history.
@SF City hunter was my first lmh drama. really liked it. As I remember, I followed son ye jin after my very first drama- Something in the rain-And somehow ended up at city hunter Maybe via personal taste.
Much as I enjoy The
Great doctor, The Plot became. repetitive And the drama had too many episodes. I did not enjoy the bad guys and their supernatural powers. I might enjoy that more now since I have watched more fantasy.
I remember reading about the real Choi young And his accomplishments, Learning his statue is somewhere in seoul. And learning about the statue that he comes out of when he Time travels. If I ever make it to south korea I will go and see that square.
@HKL
Did you watch the taiwanese version of boys over flower? That’s the one I want to watch. I just have not been able to find a good quality version anywhere.
I also enjoyed strong girl bong soon. And have rewatched Like you with a Focus on the couple scenes. Although kim hae won Is fun to watch in this show too.
I finished The Double and the ML there just grabbed me big time. Anyway 😂
I jumped to Eternal Love with 58 episodes. I’m glad I’ve finished it. It shouldn’t have been 58, 45 would’ve been enough.
I’m going to watch the Serendipity’s Embrace after the 8 episodes are out.
I’m looking forward to this one though next month, Love Next Door.
Here’s a trailer. CTO.
https://youtu.be/nYhwDKYvfUk?si=Z7SnB32vH1WMgYz9
@Monmor –
Yea, LMH before has a more manly face with a strong jaw line. ♥💗💙 it. haha.
ooh, you made me listen to FAITH ost, need to add the music to my iphone.
Have not checked out other versions of BOF – just C and K. I was interested in checking out the Japanese version though. idk.
So many dramas so little time. What a great problem to have!
Meteor garden is the name of the taiwan version of boys over flowers. I want to watch It for Jerry Yan.And vaness wu. I enjoyed the music their group performed as well.
I have heard that the japanese version is perhaps the best though I have not watched it. I watched just the first few minutes and it looked Appealing. I tried to watch the korean version but did not get very far.
Just some random thoughts. There are so many shows to watch but if I knew where to find the taiwan version I might try watching it.
@HKL @sf
I have a love, hate relationship with faith. The great doctor and a love hate relationship with lee minho.
I think I have watched almost everything. He has been in except for patchinko and one or two very early shows. When I was watching.
Legend of the blue sea Recently There were times when he did not look like himself. I had not really processed that he has had plastic surgery done.
I think That actors lose the individuality Of their appearance when they do that. There are times in Faith Where I find his facial expressions more interesting.
I’m not against plastic surgery in all cases but if it’s just to look A certain way that is popular then I am not a fan.
🤩🙌🥰 @agdr03, thanks for the clip! It looks like just what I want.
@mommor –
oh yes it’s “Meteor Garden” – haha. I tried watching the original (via youtube-not very good coz it’s all over the place- wish they would show it in viki) and the more current version with Dylan Wang on NEtflix and loved it so much-i was re-watching it a few times haha. it hits different now, a few years later. but still will remember how it’s my first dip in Dramaworld. 💛
i love LMH – orig and new face 💗 i don’t care haha. just sad coz i love his orig face, but love him nonetheless.
@GB @Kate I am really enjoying your discussion of season 1 of “Lost you forever”. I am enthralled by this drama and finally have the “bug” for Chinese fantasy. I have been searching for a gateway drama and this is it!
Other recent dramas.
I finished “Falling for Innocence” mostly for Jung kyung Ho. I want to watch more of his dramas.
I have yet to finish the last several episodes of “As beautiful as You”. I am afraid the drama will not do a good job with the dynamics between the OTP and the show will join my pile of unsatisfying Chinese workplace dramas. So far I have been enjoying this drama.
I rewatched both “Faith” and “Legend of the Blue Sea”. I feel badly for anything negative I have ever said about Lee Minho. I thoroughly enjoyed watching both these dramas.
I surprised myself by how much I enjoyed “Faith”. All the negatives I had seen in the show before dissolved in my enjoyment.
@agdr03, I’m going to watch Double next. Do share what is your favourite thing about the drama? Trying to convince my other family members to join in a family watch.
Meanwhile I’m stuck at rewatching “The Princess Royal” because I sped through it as it came out. But I loved it so much, I went back to watch it slowly, and understood some earlier conversations with the benefit of hindsight.
Also enjoying the really beautiful outfits and colour combinations they have of their set and costumes.
Anyone watching this?
If you aren’t this is the summary of it

Hello, my BoD friends! I’ve missed participating in this community. I haven’t been watching dramas because I’ve had enough stress in my life lately and didn’t want to add more, even fictional.
I have, however, looked up from the self-help book I’ve been reading to watch some coverage of the Paris Olympics. Several times I’ve been reminded of Asian dramas. During the Opening Ceremony, the parkour moves of a dramatized torch carrier reminded me of Healer. His hooded, faceless appearance were reminiscent of the nameless protagonist in W. Because of W, I watched highlights of the 10m Air Pistol Women’s Final, in which South Koreans won Gold and Silver; my congratulations to Oh Ye Jin and Kim Yeji. May your lives be free of the evil plot twists visited on Kang Cheol. I watched highlights of a badminton match between men’s teams from China and the USA, and thought of the Kdrama Racket Boys and the Cdrama Nothing but You. I’m stunned by the speed at which badminton is played. I haven’t yet watched fencing highlights, but I plan to because of the Kdrama Twenty-five Twenty-one.
One thing I’ve noticed watching Olympic coverage is how different athletes look from the stars who portray them in dramas, especially the women. The preferred body type of a FL in an Asian drama is small and stick thin. The Asian athletes I’ve seen so far in Olympic coverage are a wide variety of heights and sizes. I wish drama producers were brave enough to cast actors that reflect that reality.
And speaking of Olympics and body types, when I watch TV coverage of men’s swimming events, I admit my vantage point is sometimes from Shallow Island. When they haul themselves out of the pool, water glistening on their heaving chests and taut abdominal muscles, and the camera does a close up, am I supposed to avert my eyes?
Hello dear Friends, how are you?
Finished “Blue Moment” (Japan – 2024). A little bit too intense drama about disaster relief. It has its good points about the creation of an organization not so handicapped by command chains yet its intensity makes it cartoony.

It is unusual, but pray for us Venezuelans. It seems like the regime will cut electricity after 7 pm to show its power to us citizens. Widespread protests as Nicolás Maduro stole the elections by using an officialist-packed national electoral commitee to communicate whatever numbers he wanted.
Had an Internet service hiccup a moment ago. I guess it will cease in a while.
We are living through strange times indeed, and for the longest time.
And yes dear Friends, all these things fuel my writing 😉
@grace: hi! I’m into episode 10 of the princess royal! I finished The Double last week, and boy did I binge….
@Welmaris I have been watching surfing and rooting for the Japanese surfers 🏄 on the male side (I won’t spoil the results.) For the women there is a phenomenal 15 year old from China up against much more experienced surfers and on one of the toughest surf breaks in the world. She is fearless. She comes from the countryside far away from the ocean. She is a product of China’s system for finding and cultivating talent. Super fun to watch her and she has delighted everyone! She will be competing tomorrow in the first heat. I am not a surfer but am now an expert after watching 5 hours of competition. 🙄
As for dramas, still watching My Sweet Mobster which picked up after a couple of slow episodes in the middle. Same with Miss Day and Night. I finished As Beautiful As You. It had a promising start but ended up kind of a dud. I spent most of my time focused on Xu Kai’s hairline until I googled to confirm that he had hair implants. It looks like someone took a magic marker to his hairline.
@Good Twin, it sounds like it’s time for a Jdorama or Cdrama set in the sport of surfing. Wouldn’t that be fun? I’m not paying for expanded coverage of the Olympics, so for many sports I only see highlight clips. Your in-depth watching of the surfing
competition has me feeling a bit jealous!
@GT I stopped watching As Beautiful as You around episode 30. Might watch now with lowered expectations.
I thought this show was at least attempting to explore the dynamics of their relationship. I am concerned now that the character development
and exploration of their relationship may never be satisfying. It looks to me like the plot might resort to cliche.
I welcomed spoilers , if you are so inclined.
I did not notice the hairline. I was more focused slightly lower down. Link to follow.

@Welmaris 😂 quote Am I supposed to avert my eyes?
I think I will start watching The men’s Swimming Events.
@swiss_postscripts, sounds like The Double is quite binge-able! I better not watch it on my own 😛
My rewatch is at episode 10 too! I have to admit I didn’t understand the reasons for why they did somethings till later or during my rewatch some of the conversations made sense with hindsight.
@welmaris, These athletes train certain muscles to get the most powerful strength for whatever they had to do, so I just wow they dedication. I’m watching highlight clips and the gymnastics ones mostly and the muscles, esp for the women. :O No kdrama for gymnastics right? It must be really hard to do those stunts. These people train since they are kids!
@Good Twin, I amused myself last night while trying to fall asleep by imagining a Cdrama done in the wuxia style but as a modern surfing story.
Master: My child, why do you want to depart our clan after a lifetime of martial arts training to learn how to stand within waves on a board? You are able to run across the surface of water.
Surfer Girl Wannabe: The waves inspire awe in me and I want to dance with them.
Surfer Girl journeys long from her clan’s mountain retreat to the coast of China, having adventures along the way.
Surfer Girl takes surfing lessons and appears to be gifted. Her surfing teacher is astounded. But as Surfer Girl learns the rules of surfing competition, she determines to suppress her supernatural abilities gained from long years of cultivation. She wants to fit into the surfing community, yet others are jealous of this young upstart. She has to endure pettiness and foil evil plots to continue competing.
Surfer Girl travels to her first major surfing competition. Turns out nefarious forces emerge at the competition site, and she must surf by day and secretly fight evil by night. Rumors surface of an amazing martial artist doing amazing deeds. No one suspects Surfer Girl newbie. Everyone still looks down on her because she’s young and inexperienced as a surfing competitor.
Despite her years of martial arts training, Surfer Girl is physically exhausted from lack of sleep, and using only natural skills has her performing below her usual standard. She’s mocked by others as a flash in the pan. But then a situation develops during competition when waves suddenly become massive and unruly. Nefarious supernatural forces are attacking the humans. Competitors and support personnel in the water are in grave danger. It is up to Surfer Girl to save the day, which she does in a spectacular fight scene, unveiling her supernatural martial arts abilities for all to see.
The International Surfing Association must decide if Surfer Girl will be banned from competing because of her supernatural abilities. They don’t understand, or trust, her well developed commitment to honor and morality. In the eyes of the surfing world, Surfer Girl has gone from being not good enough to too good for fair competition. Surfer Girl is now in a battle of principle.
Videos of Surfer Girl in her epic efforts to save the endangered surfing competitors explode on social media. Surfer Girl becomes an internet darling. Marketers contact her to promote their products. Surfing competition promoters feel compelled to include Surfer Girl because she brings in spectators and money; other competitors don’t want her around because they think she hogs the limelight. Surfer Girl becomes frustrated that she’s being exploited.
Surfer Girl retreats back to her mountain top martial arts clan. She finds she doesn’t feel at home there anymore. Other acolytes now see her as an outsider, too focused on the natural world. Her master encourages her to go on a quest to purify her heart and find her unique place in the world.
Somewhere in this story Surfer Girl has to meet her true love. Is it a boy she met as a child who sparked her interest in surfing? Has he been by her side, keeping his identity hidden, through her surfing competition travails? Is he further along in his cultivation than her, so able to use his supernatural abilities without flamboyance? Will she and he discover that together they can happily bridge the natural and supernatural worlds? Most importantly, will they kiss often and well?
😂
Brava, @Welmaris. How about including a great underwater kiss scene between the leads?
@Welmaris, this is great!
Some ideas about Surfer Girl’s true love:
1. He is the neglected son of the martial arts Master. He is not interested in martial arts, so his father is disappointed in him. He prefers playing the erhu.
2. An arrogant surfer from a rival team. He insults surfer girl in public, but likes her secretly. He has childhood trauma.
Love triangle ensues!
@Welmaris – Brilliant! I love this! I love the movie Blue Crush and have been imagining a G rated Cdrama or Kdrama surfer version with themes of filial piety, first love, fated connections and childhood trauma!
The women’s heat was postponed due to dangerous conditions, so I’ll be watching hopefully tomorrow to see if this Chinese phenom Yang Siqi can make it to the quarter-finals. The fact that she even qualified for the Olympics is a remarkable achievement!
@Monmor – SPOILERS ahead on As Beautiful As You. These aren’t really spoilers since the opening credits show her in a wedding dress. They break up due to different communication styles and he withheld information from her about a merger with another medical device company. They make up after FL is kidnapped and ML saves her. ML is injured and has to have a medical device implanted. The evil cousin comes to her senses and decides that family is most important. She welcomes FL into the family and becomes a strong supporter of ML. Evil woman who had designs on ML never gets over it and says mean things to FL until the very end. FL tells her she is pitiable and that she used to respect her but no longer. Evil dude is in love with evil woman and tells her as much. FL and ML get married and go to Germany to honeymoon. Last episode is a fast forward showing their future together until they are old and one of them dies (I didn’t finish Queen of Tears but it sounds similar.) Frankly I was super bored by the end and it just seemed to lurch from plot to plot. The kidnapping was a big snooze!
I don’t know if it is getting through censors or what – but quality modern Cdramas are in very short supply lately.
@GT That was a great summary. You got right to the point. Now I do not feel like I am missing out And can check that off my list..
Thank you very much.
It was really too bad that they did resort to cliche because they were making a good effort up until The last quarter.
I think I will need to watch Zu Kai In something other than a modern day workplace type romance. The other one about the couple who shared a grandmother and were trying to run hotel restaurants was Not a winner either.
@grace: it is toooo binge-able! I’m trying to pace myself with The Princess Royal to make up for the lack of sleep owing to The Double. 🥲
@welmaris: thank you for the utterly funny wuxia surfing flick. Swatches of different wuxia films appeared in my head as I read it. I think the FL needs a wingwoman somewhere (maybe someone the who couldn’t stand the FL first until the FL saves/stands up for her and they become besties) who defeats/fends off the arrogant rival and also ends up falling in love with him. Then there’s a crisis of friendship or we have two couples (?!)
@Snow Flower, the neglected son of the Master…Surfer Girl would likely know him, or know of him if she spent most of her youth living and cultivating in the clan. How about the ML being the son of an estranged sibling of the Master: the Master’s nephew. If anything happens to the Master, leadership of the clan should, by bloodline, pass to that nephew, but he’s not interested. He’s a free spirit, not bound to an organization or its rules. But he was well trained in martial arts by his custodial parent. Let’s say it’s his mom who was the Master’s sister, and she fell in love with someone forbidden. The nefarious forces that disrupt the surfing competition? His father was once one of them, but he’s long dead, having been assassinated by his people because he tried to leave that group, disagreeing with their ideology. His father’s love of his mother was seen as betrayal. His mother narrowly escaped death, and was hidden by her brother until she gave birth. Once Rejected Boy was born, he and his mother were sent away from the clan’s mountain retreat. Would his mixed heritage bring harm to the clan? The Master didn’t want to take the risk, much as he loved his sister.
Surfer Girl can be the daughter of the best friend of Master’s sister. Her father had been promised in marriage to the Master’s sister, but ended up marrying the best friend when his intended disappeared after going on a trip away from the mountain retreat. He waited for his intended until Master told him his fiancée would never return. It was assumed she was dead. Only Master knew her story, and didn’t tell anyone. After a proper mourning period for their best friend / former fiancée, Surfer Girl’s parents married. Surfer Girl’s mother died during a difficult childbirth.
Surfer Girl’s father raised her alone, a loving parent, but saddened because he’d lost two women he’d deeply loved. When Surfer Girl was a youth, she convinced her father and the Master that she and her father needed a change of scenery and pace, away from the mountain retreat. So Surfer Girl and her father went to the seashore. Surfer Girl has never seen the ocean before. It’s vastness amazed her. She wondered where the waves came from. One day she mumbled that question to herself while sitting on the sand, watching surfers in the distance. A young man standing near her responded, explaining that waves travel great distances, which for him is one reason it is special to ride the breakers. The two of them had a conversation that lasted until sunset. Surfer Girl had to return to her lodging, so her father wouldn’t worry about her being out alone after dark. Her new friend offered to accompany her back, but she refused, and ran off. She didn’t even know his name, and wondered if she’s ever seen him again.
@Welmaris I am up for watching 40 episodes of that drama! And you have enough plot to fill it!
@Welmaris the kiss question is important above all and will decide how long and avidly we watch your Show!!! 😘😚😝🤣 The young man-Surfer Girl youth/childhood meeting trope is great! Because of it, somehow there is a sizzling connection between them when they meet again. You may then dispense with some scenes of why they fall in love and just get to the juicy skinship!! 😋
@monmor: if you want to catch Xu Kai in a non-modern workplace drama, the very best of the best I have to recommend is AMA — arsenal military academy. His absolute best role EVER.
Currently watching:
1. My Sweet Mobster — this week is finale. Love this show, will probably end up in my all-time favourite list of romcoms. Really the show to watch for your Happy Place
2. Miss Night & Day — this week is finale. Casual watching not emotionally vested / more keen to see how they resolve the serial murders since I am a fan of serial murders
3. Finished The Double — very watchable, logical, beautiful and intelligent. I enjoyed it. But this is really a subjective opinion, I somehow didn’t feel emotionally engaged. It’s all head to me.
4. Watching Whirlwind – political thriller cos the writer is a favourite. Not as emotionally engaging as Punch. It’s cerebral and taut. Great for lunch time watching
5. Gaus Electronics — very funny workplace satire and parody. Short at 12 episodes. I watch it when I need a laugh at the end of day – great pick me up
6. Lovely Runner – I stopped at Ep 6. The first 6 eps are luminous and emotionally powerful I was sobbing. Thus, have to stop. A bit drained. I had to go read recaps and reviews to make sure the ending is happy before I continue. Shall I ???
7. I need more funny and healing dramas — please recommend gals!
@swiss_postscripts, since we’re imagining a Cdrama, and it’d probably need enough content to fill 40 episodes, why not have both a crisis of friendship with the wing woman and eventually two couples?
The arrogant 2ML is a native of Hainan Island, grew up with surfing culture, and thinks he is unparalleled in looks and skill. But deep inside he hides an inferiority complex because he knows there’s so much of China, and the world, he hasn’t experienced. Anything outside Hainan Island and surfing frightens him, much as he hates to admit it. When the team travels away from Hainan Island for the competition, he covers his insecurities with arrogant behavior.
The 2FL has been on the team for awhile, but hanging by a thread because her skills plateaued. She fears she’s kept around just because her father is wealthy and financially supports the team. When a new girl, the FL, is added to the team, 2FL joins the others in picking on her because she came to surfing so late in life and has an unconventional style. But 2FL notices FL improving as she internalizes the coach’s instructions. The 2FL has trouble getting what she hears into her head then into her body. The 2FL spies on the FL as she meditates and exercises on land. Eventually, knowing all along she was being watched, the FL invites the 2FL to join her. Together they work on breathing, visualization, muscle memory training, and calming of the mind. The FL has the 2FL join her in meditating under a waterfall to tame fears of water’s power. The 2FL sees improvement in her surfing, and comes to respect and trust the FL.
The 2FL sees through the rough exterior of the 2ML, having dealt with feelings of insecurity herself. She breaks through his shell and helps him let his inner child come out and explore the world without fearing judgment. He comes to relish being curious and a lifelong learner, rather than presenting himself as a know-it-all.
@Welmaris, I like the meaningful romance between the 2nd leads!
Kalimera Ladies!
I do hope you are okay. It has been a hectic period for me. So, I just came to say Hi! 🙂
Now, let me read @Welmaris’ FanFiction *grins*
Kalimera dear @Cleo, here’s saying ‘Hi!’ back to you. I trust that you are well too, although very busy.
Kalimera Unnie,
I am okay, a bit sleepy today. I bit relieved that I have managed to finish some important tasks. How are you?
Dear Doensaeng Cleo, I’m pretty fine, however people around me are sick, hence I’m taking precautions to stay fine as long as possible. I’m sleepy too!!!
Oh, I do hope everyone will be better soon! Stay safe! <3
Well, yes, the bed is calling out my name… Still, I am some kms away…😜
@Welmaris this surfing CDrama has potential! Bravo! <3
@welmaris: the plot is thickening! since we have 40 episodes, may we also toss in a love token (which actually has deeper significance connected to the legacy of the clan).
Before Surfer Girl runs off, he (Rejected Boy) gives her an anklet made of otherworldly jade (cut from the mountain where the clan resides)- it’s his mother’s which she left for him (to give to his first love?) Unbeknownst to them both, the anklet bears the ancient crest of the clan. Surfer Girl keeps the anklet and wears it when surfing as a remembrance of the boy who first taught her about the waves.
Hi @grace 😃
I really liked The Double because the story was coherent and the actors were great in their roles. Maybe towards the end it got a bit slow but I didn’t mind it. My only complaint (usually) is that there’s limited kisses. Like as in. 😂
I liked that the ML gave the FL the support that she needed. She was smart.
The ML is definitely a hypnotiser. 😂
@Empress in New clothes and others
Thank you for the Xu Kai recommendation. I have been thinking of rewatching AMA. I think that may be the only drama of his I have completed. For some reason I could not get into Falling into your smile. I tried twice but maybe did not give it long enough. I may have been saturated at that point with gaming dramas.
Does anyone have a recommendation for historicals or fantasy starring Xu Kai? I also started Wonderland of Love but did not give it enough time.
Right now I am in the thick of “Lost you forever” season 1. I plan to watch “My Sweet Mobster” for downtime.
@GrowingBeautifully, Love your wording-“juicy skinship”. T
@Welmaris, Report from a shallow Island: I blame it on speedos. The men’s swimwear is quite skimpy compared to the women’s. It’ s sort of like the women’s track uniforms. I also think the men shave their body hair, allegedly to reduce drag and increase performance. I’m reminded of body builders who also oil their bodies. So there is a performance reason for enjoying the view(ahem).
LOL @OAL, did my enthusiasm for self-conscious hand-holding, warm back hugs and dedicated, focused kisses manifest itself juicily? 😚☺️😇
@Welmaris and BODers article about the inspiration for Xania Surfer Girl. Surfs up tomorrow and Yang Siqi is in the first heat. https://www.surfer.com/news/who-is-siqi-yang-first-olympic-surfer-china
@swiss_postscripts, the afternoon Surfer Girl and Rejected Boy first met, he’d finished a couple of hours of surfing in the morning, and had come back to check the waves to decide if he wanted to fit in another session that day. He’d been feeling unsettled, and spending time in the water calmed him. As he walked toward the water’s edge, his eyes were drawn away from the surf line to a figure seated alone on the sand. This piqued his interest, because few tourists know of this beach. Only locals and surfers willing to venture off the beaten path visit this undeveloped stretch of shore. He slowed his pace as he drew closer to the stranger, not wanting to call attention to himself until he could size up the situation. A girl. The stranger was female, and looked younger than him by a couple of years or so. That was his best guess, not having been around many girls in his life. A surfer, resting? Just then he heard her mumbling to herself; he could barely pick out the words. She doesn’t know how waves form. Definitely not a surfer. Her curiosity was his opportunity to learn more about this stranger. He stepped by her side and offered a simple explanation of wave dynamics in oceans.
He settled next to her in the sand, both watching the waves, and as their conversation continued he learned that she had never seen the ocean before this visit. She’d come to this quiet, small seaside community with her father, who needed a change of environment to lift his mood. Their home was on a mountain, and she’d never traveled far from it. They temporarily settled in this location at the recommendation of her Master, the leader of their clan. There was something about this girl, the lilt of her voice, especially as she talked of her home, that unnervingly reminded him of his mother. Could they be from the same region of China? He wouldn’t know, because his mother never talked about her past.
For years, he had worn a string of jade beads, masterfully hand carved, around his ankle. It was a gift from his mother, who had re-strung it from a necklace she’d worn as long as he could remember. She had strung the remaining beads into a bracelet for herself. His jade bead anklet was his most prized possession, of the meager belongings he could call his own. Yet suddenly, he felt a strong impulse to give this girl, this stranger, his jade beads. He untied the anklet, and before she could refuse it, tied it around her wrist. Fortunately the silk cord was long enough wrap around her wrist twice, else the beads would have slipped over her hand. He felt, beyond a doubt, that the jade beads belonged with her, but couldn’t say why. She, fingering the beads around her wrist, looked pensive, not surprised.
Time both stood still and passed quickly as they talked. They were together forever, and yet suddenly it was sunset. She stood up quickly, saying she must return to her father before he worried about her. And as if she’d been a dream, she was gone. Alone on the beach in the dark, he became keenly aware of a new-felt emptiness on his ankle and in his heart.
Surfer Girl got to the lodging she shared with her father just as the night sky became fully dark. Her father frowned at her, then motioned for her to sit at the table to eat the dinner he’d prepared. She excused herself to wash her hands first. In the bathroom, she untied the silk cord around her wrist and carefully laid the jade beads on the ledge between the sink and the mirror. Over dinner she and her father chatted about how each had spent their day. Her father shared anecdotes about shopping at the village market. She spoke of the awe she felt looking at the vast ocean and gazing at the endless waves. As they finished their meal, she cleared the dishes from the table as her father went into the bathroom to wash up for the night. But instead of showering, he emerged from the bathroom shortly after he’s closed the door, face pale, and her newly gifted string of jade beads in his hand.
“Where did you get these?”
“A boy I met in the beach gave them to me.”
“What is his name? Where is he from?”
“I don’t know. I didn’t think to ask. He seemed like he was from around here.”
“How old was he?”
“I don’t know. Maybe a few years older than me.”
“Did he speak of his family?”
“He told me a little bit about his mother. He takes care of her because her health isn’t good. He didn’t mention his father.”
“His mother is alive?”
“Yes. They live together. She raised him alone. But she’s weakened now by some ailment. He didn’t tell me any details.”
“Where did he get these jade beads?”
“I think from a necklace his mother wore. He said she divided the beads from it into an anklet for him and a bracelet for herself. What’s the matter, Father? Why are you so upset? He insisted on giving me his old anklet, and I can’t return it to him because I don’t know how to find him. Besides, somehow the jade beads speak to me. They feel like they’ve always belonged to me.”
“That’s because I carved them with my own hands, and strung them into a necklace I gave to my fiancée. That woman, your mother’s best friend, disappeared shortly before we were to marry. Her brother, our clan’s Master, told me she was gone forever. Our clan even held a memorial service for my fiancée, although there was no body to bury. And now, here in my hand, are beads I carved for her as a bridal gift.”
@Good Twin, thanks for the link! You couldn’t make it up, right? Unless you were @Welmaris, perhaps. 😉
Better and better, @Welmaris.
@welmaris: deepest respect for you! i am entirely floored!!
@GrowingBeautifully, You definitely have a way with words. When I watch K Dramas I love seeing skinship and kissing scenes. Compared to American programs where we get a lot of gratuitous sex, it’s nice to watch K dramas where we get romance.
@Welmaris, the only modification would be that maybe the Dad shouldn’t explain absolutely everything to his daughter right away (typical screen parental behaviour) so that there can be some secrecy, miscommunication and misinterpretation to pad out the 40+ episodes. 😬🙄
I’m not impatient or frustrated with ‘Only For Love’, nope. 😉
@Fern, no indeed, with Only For Love, neither am I frustrated, nor impatient, nor at times (heaven forbid!) bored!!! LOLOL. My cup runneth over with sarcasm.
@OAL, why, thank you kindly! I am immensely gratified that my poor attempts at word play can at times entertain a friend!
Yes, like you, I’m into kdramas and cdramas (and jdoramas) for the romance. But I like me a hefty portion of mystery-solving, fantasy/time-jump and ‘healing’ in my dramas too. 🙂
Will @welmaris script be transformed into a short film? 😬
@agdr03, sounds good. I love a good plot with smart people. I guess it is to watch for the stort. (We watched Mysterious Lotus Casebook where there’s barely any romance but the bromance or brother friendship was so good it didn’t matter, or do case solving stories tend to have minimal romance?)
oooo I better not start on my own. I will binge badly. 😅
@monmor, I watched Ancient Love Poetry which was okkkkk…my husband loved it. I’m a little over the very similar Immortal fantasy drama story lines. I also prefer XuKai in centre parting instead of the pulled back hairstyle.
I wanted to try his Dance of the Sky Empire where it is more comedic. But haven’t gotten down to it.
Liked him in She and Her Perfect Husband though…I know not many people liked it but his character there is 👌👍
@empressnewclothes
I have to agree on Gaus Electronics!! Laughed so hard!!
Hilarious Family is was quite funny, light hearted and silly…and some heartwarming parts made me 🥹 it’s all available on YT. Just no English trailer.
https://youtu.be/A6oH_VzLKd8?si=LUkaT7HDcyxHke2D
@ Welmaris our real life surfer girl is out in the 3rd round. For your fictional Surfer Girl. She makes it to the 3rd round far beyond expectations winning fans due to her exuberance sportsmanship and fearlesslness. The local villages throw flower wreaths on the water to honor her and her battle against bad guys in the village. Cue a speech for the censors on how China is new to surfing and will be dominating in years to come if surfer girl is an indication. Boyfriend (lost track if it is Boy 1 or boy 2) asks her how she feels and she say GREAT! Cue OST
@Grace I have not watched much Xianxia so I will have a look at Ancient Love Poetry.
I saw some of you are watching Battlestar Galactica.
One of my fav US series. With 24 (on top) or other various old US series.
My fav character is Gaius Baltar.
All other characters are almost fascists, but this one is funny.
Ok, he’s a bit a scumbag, but with so many human flaws making him human.
So how is your BSG watching?
It’s one of the rare US series with a start and an End.
And when some people didn’t liked the ending, I liked it a lot.
@WE, I saw that 365: Repeat the Year might be in 2 different length versions. Version 24 episodes (35 minutes each) or in Version 12 episodes (1 hour ++ each). Which version of 365 do you have/are you watching?
@GB, it’s the same one. 24 half-hour episodes, or 12 hours episodes.
Watch the one you want. Target best quality first.
At home I’ve the one hour/episodes. And we have a cut in the middle.
@WE, yes that’s the format I have too. 2 short episodes in 1 so there are only 12 episodes. So if we do 365 for our rewatch we’ll rewatch it for an hour+ each time.
I just continued Signal from Ep 12 to 14. So much suspense and also we still get cute and funny scenes. Loved it!
@FGB4877, I saw your post by email, but don’t see it here when I hit reply. May God bless and protect you and your countrymen.
