The thread is open.
Sorry, folks. I dropped the ball here and didn’t open the thread this week. I’ll try to catch up later when I get over the jetlag.

What does HaeYeong consider a dealbreaker? His hotness, which should have eliminated him from the husband pool, didn’t matter to her in the end. Their age gap is neither here nor there. His family connection is irrelevant. So what’s the stumbling block for her? Her hatred for her mother’s erstwhile foster children?
Interesting…
Enjoy the show!
Thank you Queen! 🙇🏻♀️ How are you?
Yes, I wondered about those questions too. How much hate does HY have for her parents foster children? Was it because of her Dad passing?
Anyway I’m excited for the last 2 episodes. Hopefully it’ll be a nice wrap up. This drama went just like that.
@pkml3, I feel the reason that HY does not think she and JU should be together (yet) is because she was the one who forced the wedding on him, and it was a deal that they made. They were supposed to get divorced later. She also apologised to him about the kiss and about affecting his future. She didn’t want the marriage and divorce to be a negative mark on his ‘record’ since he was still young and had yet to make his way in the world.
If not for all this feeling of being responsible for a younger person that she’d dragged into her schemes, HY would have been quite willing to enjoy JU’s hotness. LOL.
We see that long after they’ve grown up, HY is still a big sister towards Hae Seung and Ja Yeon. It’s her default ‘setting’ when with an ‘orphan’ or fostered sibling, especially one younger than herself.
Well I’ve watched Ep 11, the penultimate episode and I’m pleased to say that enough resolution has taken place so that we can coast into the last episode knowing that there should be no more loose ends.
Show has delivered in the area of manhwa ridiculousness but move on to relatable characters, meaningful relationships, reality, angst, suspense and lots and lots of heart. It has also offered different kinds of romances with sweet moments to gif.

I’m happy that my wish list for the ending has been partially fulfilled already.
– I wanted Gyu Hyun and Ji Uk to get on and it’s started
– The HY and mum relationship is somewhat resolved
– Gyu Hyun and Ja Yeon… Yay!
There’ll be a teary start to the last episode, I’m sure …
More resolution is needed on the Gyu Hyun front with his father and mother. Also, I wonder if HY can get back her position in the company. And we need to know of Hae Seung is sticking it out alone or with baby’s dad.
I’m pleased to say that my guess as to why Ja Yeon lived with HY is more or less right. I like that HY retains the same consideration as her mother for others, regardless of the loss to herself.
I like that the reveals that were made between HY and JU, and between HY and JY were more complete. And now we await the most crucial resolution of all… will HY have her own family without a long time of separation? I expect that our OTP may have to reboot-restart-reinitialise. But I hope it won’t take too long!
Hi @GB! I haven’t seen episode 11 but I’m excited for the ending. I hope as much as it’s funny and sad, we get a really great ending. ❤️
Our second lead is so cute from the posts that I saw. I’m excited to watch their spin off. ☺️
In the 11th hour NGNL is still not grabbing me. I am watching and thinking I should be feeling something but only feel dispassionate. Something is definitely missing for me.
Will be interesting to see how I experience today’s episode but I doubt it will be much different.
I think with the killer arc it would have been better for me if there had been more dramatic lead up and not just hints. It was as though we were suddenly watching horror! It did not even have shock value since we could see it coming.
At this point I am most interested in the pregnant couple. His other girlfriend was very vindictive in what she said about how he would question the paternity of the child. She was right though and it is good that he work that through now for himself and the two of them as a couple. Maybe they will both come to understand his feelings as normal given the circumstances. Would be a nice ending if we can think they will be good parents to this child. Finale scene of all the couples with their children?
The glow sticks/? sex toys beating up the killer was pretty funny!
Well in the twelfth hour I am totally won over. That was a really good finale.
SPoilers finale
Some very good funny bits. Thoughtful scenes about what it means to be family.
I really liked the last subverted trope. I have always wondered how Neither partner of the split up and get back together months and years later trope would not have met someone else. His sister’s canadian accent gave it away although I was pretty sure she was his sister even before she spoke.
I also noticed that the name or name close to the name of one of my favorite singers showed up As being thanked for appearing in the drama.Singer from Shinhwa. I will need to review this and see if I can spot him if it is the right person.
@MM, @agdr03
The finale was as expected and while a bit bitter-sweet, was mostly good overall. The separation (as expected) was a good thing, and it made sense. The OTP had gotten together under false pretenses and they had to break away from that before they could get back together with a ‘clean’ slate.
I liked that Ji Uk had the chance to be free from obligations, to meet his mother and stepfamily, to get on well with his stepsibling and to make a conscious decision after this to return to HY. I loved that she welcomed him home. He said he’d simply returned to where his heart was, which was super sweet.
The 2nd lead’s relationships panned out well too. So we look forward to a couple more special episodes of Gyu Hyun and Ja Yeon.
I liked that PD and Hae Seung who also needed a break up to come back stronger, decided to be pro-family regardless of PD not liking HY much LOL.
Of my wish list, the only things that didn’t pan out were HY’s mum being cognisant of HY and acknowledging her properly, and JY’s dad being a better guy. I liked that HY took matters into her own hands and started her own company. I’d like to see her competing well against Kkulbee and still collaborating with them.
The big joke was that JU’s mum was going to be a webtoon writer too!
I’m thankful that the manhwa-ness of the Show was reduced after the first half or quarter and that we got into the ‘real’ world with relatable characters. It was a fun show with comments on family, couple relationships, self-direction and choosing to do what was right regardless of the unfairness or fear of losing out. HY showed that although she felt she had lost out, but because she still chose to do what was good for others, she had actually gained in terms of respect, the good opinions and support of others and new family. She even had the chance to get investments from her rival ex-company. How cool is that?
Awwww I thought it was a beautiful and sweet ending. 🥰
‘Welcome home Ji-uk’ said Hae-Yong with open arms. ❤️ I love that he finally has a home. I love that he put their wedding rings back without her knowing. I love how she opened up about not forgetting the person who taught her how to smoke. I love that he said he came back to where his heart is. 😍
I like that as much as HY didn’t spend much time with her Mom, her Mom’s kindness is instilled in her. I was crying with her after she learned of her Mom’s passing. 😭
It was heartbreaking for both HY and JU on the separation but HY made the right decision. I’m so glad it was only for 6 months. I liked the reminiscing of HY in front of the convenience store too.
I also like our CEO and Writer. Their love story was sweet. 🥰 I’m happy as well that HS decided to keep her baby and to become a good parent with her boyfriend.
This drama was fun. I was crying and laughing at one point. GH just had to ask JU why they have those toys. 😂 He looked like a Jedi with his blue and green lightsabers. 😂 The music was on point too.
There’s only 3 months to go before the year ends. I can easily say this is my best drama for 2024. Let’s see. ☺️
@agdr03
I agree with your review and what you liked.
If not for watching a 2020 kdrama, “Cheat On Me If You Can”, I’d have voted NGNL as the best too. But the best I’ve watched so far is COMIYC, with the same male lead, who gets cool moves to do. 🙂
Still I did enjoy NGNL. I liked HY’s character, although I hope she becomes mature in not being so hot tempered and afraid to lose out. I liked how she never let on what she knew of her father’s death and treated Ja Yeon like a real little sister.
Ja Yeon thought she’d make up for what her father did by not abandoning HY, and HY agreed to take her in because she could tell JY was also crying out for help. They were emotionally wounded and healed each other over time.
That was one of the best things. The healing that found family relationships bring. 🙂
True that @GB HY could easily have held a grudge especially after loosing her Dad but she didn’t. She chose to protect JY. I really like this part of the drama too.
@agdr03, @MM, have you watched the 2-Episode Spice Up Our Love?
I didn’t find it as entertaining as NGNL. FL’s change of heart happened too suddenly. There were a lot of censored scenes LOL.
I’d have preferred the episodes with Ja Yeon and Gyu Hyun, but we get her fictional characters instead, and sweet romance rather than spicy stuff. Fortunately, we get the ‘Rating 15’ version!!!
Watch the after credits ‘making of the show’ scenes. Lee Sang Yi sings the song for the show. The background ‘making of’ scenes might be fun to watch.
@GB @agr03 some of my notes from the last episode
In the scene in the columbarium, the whole family is gathered including her father and his grandmother. This is the family her mother created. I accept that her mother was a rare soul’ an angel without wings, as they say. HY was an only child and would have been left with no-one after her parents died. This is what her mother’s love accomplished.
I thought HY as a buzzing bee was funny. We hear buzzing as she runs in the costume. Her big eyes stare into the bee’s eyes when she takess off the head and whe remembers an earlier scene when UK was wearing the bee costume.
She tells the CEO to buzz off!
I also enjoyed the joke about the sympathetic pregnancy. That idea has been in other kdramas–Fated to love you, for one. And then the comment about the health consequences of abdominal obesity, which felt designed for me.
There is also , in the list of the writer’s screenplays a drama called “What is wrong with mr kim.”
@GB I agree. The Spice Up Our Love spin off wasn’t as entertaining even if LSY’s body looked delicious. 😂
@MM Those were good scenes and I like how you see the columbarium scene as a gathering of all the family. That seems so appropriate. It was explained by Ji Uk saying that his grandmother had insisted on being in the same ‘place’ as HY’s family (or something to that effect). That’s a nice idea.
I was walking home and thinking about the lights. From around Episode 10… how Ji Uk came home and found the lights out but as he stepped in they came on. HY had switched the circuit breaker off. Then when they argued and he walked out, the lights went off, but he came back to switch them on. And finally, they had their tryst and the lights went off. Ji Uk was also the one to pass the lighter to HY when she first wanted to smoke. At the proposal, HY was plunged into the dark but the proposal in lighted up ramyeon bowls arranged by JU was cute.
I guess we can stretch the idea a bit and say that they can go through the darkness together, but that generally, Ji Uk brightens up HY’s world, and light conquers darkness any time!
@GB Lovely!
