  1. I would love to be watching with all of you today.

Spring is a very busy season for me tending to my native garden which this year also needs to be rehabilitated from being trampled by a husky and a Shiba inu.

Depending on when RL wakes up and joins me I may have some time today to watch.

I have discovered The Double and am engrossed. Next up “Are you the One” I am late to the party for these two.

If it were the dead of winter or the height of the sweltering summer season I would be happy to be insulating at home. and watching this rewatch!

I am repeating my beginner Korean class and have some level of competency this time around. Just being able to make the sounds is difficult enough and then the sounds change depending on the surround! I wonder if it feels that way to someone learning English?

    Have fun everybody!

  2. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @MM hope you get to join us, but remember to enjoy RL and your garden!

  3. I am here on standby tonight.

  4. Last episode there was an additional scene in the script:

    _________________________________________________________
    #62-1. ADDITIONAL SCENE – FOR EPISODE 8

    #Insert. CHICKEN RESTAURANT (N)

JOON-KOOK: Gotta know why you’re dying. It’s ‘cause your daughter played hero in court ten years ago. Got it? Unfair, huh?
HYE-SUNG’S MOM: (tears pooling) Yeah. Unfair. I didn’t know my girl enough. Thought she was brave.. should’ve praised her more, called her pretty.. I was too harsh, too stingy.
    JOON-KOOK: (face hardens) ..
HYE-SUNG’S MOM: (smiles, loud command) Tell my girl this! My spinster’s a dragon now – tell her I’ll dance in heaven from joy!

I don’t remember if it’s used later. First time I’ve read that, I was thinking it’s amazing. And I wondered why it’s not used. It’s not that long and time could be cut somewhere else for that. It was exploiting a previous idea of her daughter not being a dragon but a eel. Or maybe the writer was thinking it was too anectdotal and could have a diminish return related to the intense and serious dramatic tension?

  5. Hi GB hi FF, I see you should be here.
And MM, see you another day.

  6. Hi @WE, yes I am here tonight.

  7. @WE, I think it is used in Episode 10 (9 or 10). I just saw this scene last night.

  8. Hi @SD!, are we starting?

  9. Hi SD,
    Thanks for the info.
Well, it’s an onion bit of scene. Probably best in this further episode than in the end of episode 7.

  10. Yeah let’s go.

  11. Hello @WE, @FF, @GB. @MM spring has finally started here as well. This last week everything burst into bloom, by today, the spectacular blooming trees are starting to fade and petals lightly lacquer the ground. Oh, and I think I am ready for a rewatch of the Double. One of my favorites from last year.

  12. Sly Min Joong Kuk as for his trail to be carried out at the place where HS works! And he cries crocodile tears.

  13. It cuts any scene of sadness for now, to jump 3 weeks later. It saves time and scenes of sadness can happen now (instead of being used twice). Probably the scene of sadness just after death would be obvious ones, and not providing a so strong effect.

  14. Instead, it focus first on a doubt about the murder. And the strategy of the killer to go in HS district. So it will be a legal case involving the characters, even if we guess he’s probably the culcript.

  15. I think it is a good thing that the scenes of sadness are cut short. Matches the HS and her mother’s style.

  16. This time, there is no voice-over of Joon-Kook when he looks at Soo-Ha, but we guess he thinks he killed the mother. It makes there is still a doubt, but a really small one, if we trust the reaction of Soo-Ha.

  17. HS realizes that the last conversation with her mum was when her mum faces MJK just before he kills her.

  18. I was wondering why no voice over of MJK yet SH can read MJK’s mind.

  19. The scene at the funeral used for the recall of the phone call, sure now there will be a lot of tears. Damnit, the writer played it dirty like that to make everybody cry. 🙂

  20. The idea that for HS it was an ordinary phone call in previous episode, and now realizes her mother was on point of being killed at this moment, saying her last words. OUCH!!!

  21. Poor KW being assigned to defend MJK, the suspect who killed the mother of the women he is in love with. Guess they are just not meant to be.

  22. I thought it was interesting both the first time I watched it and in HS recalling the phone call, that HS picked up on the fact that something was wrong with her mother. It shows she is more intuitive and caring than she appears and highlights the connection between this mother and daughter.

  23. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi Everyone! I fell asleep. Are you 18 minutes in already?

  24. Is HS asking KW to be partial in his defence of MJK?

  25. Hi GB. 14:00 for me.

  26. Hi @GB, yes at about 17-18min into the episode.

  27. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE I like that we got to see that scene of the phone call from the Mum’s point of view first and now we get to see it from Hye Sung’s point of view.

Now we watch how Min twists truth to lies.

  28. It is also interesting that in this version of the phone call we do not see HS’s mother. In the first version, we know that the mother is addressing both her daughter AND her killer. Her daughter never knows that.

  29. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD that’s a good point too. I thought that when HS asked her mum if she was hiding anything, it was just a question because someone other parent had not told their child anything until it was too late.

  30. @SD

The music and the artistry of the double On top of
A good plot and good acting has been mesmerizing. There are scenes I have already rewatched.

This is my first watch. I am about halfway through.

Cherry petals and maple flowers are everywhere on our lawn, Our driveway, And in the house!

  31. Kwan-Woo is supposed to be her boyfriend now.
The situation has the goal to make him doing his job seriously, defend the murderer, and so betray HS. Really, it’s a situation build to torture deep the characters.

  32. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @FF, yes, this episode we see HS desperately trying to have Min declared guilty by any means at all.

  33. Ultra scheming MJK, pretended to hang himself, give excuse that if KW defended him successfully HS would believe that he is innocent! He must have planned all these meticulously. Should use his brains for a good cause instead of seeking revenge.

  34. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, it’s only now when SH tells HS that Min had granted Mum one phone call that she knows that Min must have been listening in on that phone call too.

I note that again we have the title popping up … HS heard her Mum’s voice and so did Killer Min.

  35. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, Min has the twistedness to really torture poor KW and HS. He chooses the one who would end up ‘betraying’ her so to speak so that she’d suffer too.

  36. As a nice irony, Do-Yeon is the one in HS camp now.

  37. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, I know right? Min is such a super smart villain, what a pity he didn’t choose to use his brains for better things.

  38. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @MM, I like that HS can tell SH how upset she is and that he’s mature enough to accept that she has to unburden herself. He agres to hear her voice even when she’s saying negative things to him.

  39. I am really struck this time at just how twisted and sadistic Min is. And how good an actor (the character acting): real tears for the prosecutor. And yes, the meticulous detail and the extent he is willing to go for his revenge (rescue a body from a burning building, fake suicide- either one of which could go wrong).

  40. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

When HS goes to DY’s home and has to kneel and apologise for the past even when she was not in the wrong, we see how DY’s father has another kind of evil. He wants her to perjure herself to admit that wrong before he will let her into the house.

  41. The writer had to insert some humor into the heart-warming scene where SH takes the venting of HS, SH mistaking the cooking oil for dishwashing liquid.

  42. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD, Min goes very far in the area of revenge and it is still not as far yet as he’s prepared to go.

  43. DY’s father is that pouty lip actor, always a villain character.

  44. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF yes, that actor who plays ex-judge Dae Sook has that pout and often overacts with it. Now he’s giving bad advice. Advice that will spoil the chances to get a proper guilty verdict.

  45. @GB, DY’s father is another one who refuses to admit his mistake, so he forced HS to admit to something that she did not do/when she is not in the wrong. Mr. pouty lip.

  46. HS makes excuses about the firework, a problem she didn’t cause, but somehow, short after, the father dissipate the situation, saying her daughter was lying.

  47. How corrupt can the legal system be? Even the ex-judge tells the prosecutor to get an inmate to make a false representation?

  48. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE exactly, that horrible judge Seo knew all along that DY was lying but he still made HS admit that she was guilty. That’s how evilly twisted he is.

  49. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Lawyer Shin is pretty sharp. One conversation with Hwang Dal Jung and he guesses that HS has got the prosecutor to bring in someone to lie for her.

  50. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

That’s a question indeed, if Min was declared innocent, would HS continue to be a lawyer. First she throws her lawyer badge away. It is appropriate because she acted unlike a lawyer who wanted to uphold the truth.

This time Min’s outburst in court is justified because Hwang lies for the prosecution.

  51. It’s a irony that HS is now depending on DY to help her convict the man who killed her mum. HS always thought that she is better than DY.

  52. MJK make sure to provoke SH with the mind talk.

  53. Law of the worst: best twist is there isn’t (even after some convolutions). SO, Attorney Cha finds a way to make Min innocent. ARRGH, jaw dropped!! 😀

  54. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, Cha is the sort of lawyer who’s very professional and works hard for the client regardless of how he hates the client’s guts.

  55. Was that our nickname for him in Nine, Nine times? Mr. Pouty Lips? I have forgotten. Anyway, he does venality very well.

  56. @GB, anyway, I never found any drama when this guy play a role of a good guy. LOL!! He has a face of baddies.

  57. @SD, did we give him a nickname? lol.

  58. Oh the aquarium appeared again.

  59. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE you are speaking of actor Jung Woong In (Min) or Jung Dong Hwan (Seo)?

  60. In case some people scream at “plot-hole” because Soo-Ha is in high school but it’s as if it’s forgotten, we still have a short scene in high-school showing is absent. 😉

  61. @WE, the additional scene is 1:00:45.

  62. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

While HS tries to come to terms with telling the truth which led to the tragedy of her mum, SH prepares to say goodbye to her.

He’s not just going to leave her but plans to do something else.

  63. @GB, I was thinking Seo, but both actors by the way. They always play bad guys. About “Min” he’s amazing in Empress Ki, bad guy with a redemption arc (goosebumps!).

  64. What is SH plotting? Leaving HS to kill MJK? He said he will protect her at all cost! He confesses his love for her!!!!!!!

  65. @FF, YES!! But notice that: the line about being a dragon was removed. So I really think the writer was thinking it’s too much a trick and not sincere enough. Unless another explanation is provided, it’s the only one. Writer taking care about her script and deleting mudane or too obvious anectdotal.

  66. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE and so writer gives us a poignant scene where it’s quiet in the aquarium so that HS and SH can only hear each other’s voices.

He tells her 2 most important things. One that her mother had been so proud of her for testifying against Min and telling the truth. She did not regret being killed for it. He knew she’d been feeling guilt over this.

He even puts in a good word for Cha, his rival.

The other thing was how SH himself felt about her.

  67. This damn kiss was unexpected!!

  68. The 2nd additional scene of Ep7 is also at the very end of Ep8. Onion dialogue of HS/Cha date.

  69. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE that kiss was the best confession of his love that he could have come up with and best of all, it wasn’t planned.

So SH tells HS to give Cha a chance but then he upstages him in getting to kiss the girl first!!! Poor HS is startled and confused.

  70. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The epilogue tells us finally that even before, HS had put SH first over a date with Cha.

  71. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE LOL ‘Onion’ Dialogue?!? Because the dialogue comes to us in layers over time? We get part of it in Ep 7 and the response to the question in Ep 8.

  72. @WE, yes the dragon line is missing and yes I think it is a bit over so the line was not used.

  73. @FF, yes Soo-Ha plotting to kill Min.
Many clues: scene with him and Cha at night when he says thank you to Cha (unexpected!).
Another scene when we see his knife in a bag.
So, next move of Soo-Ha is clearly to kill Min.
It’s why he’s so dramatic in last scene of aquarium, saying goodbye.

  74. @GB, well, Onion is anything when the scene has more of what we see first time, and additional information is provided later in a flashback. 😉
Can be really extreme with many onion layers in a drama like 365. 🙂

  75. Kiss with tears streaming down his cheeks.

  76. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE in that cut scene that we do get to see, it’s HS who mentions ‘dragon’ and I really think that the word ‘dragon’ should not have been left out. So in my subs it’s not mentioned but I think it was edited out because HS mentions the dragon.

  77. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF I love this goodbye scene of SH’s with that ‘goodbye and I love you’ kiss.

  78. @GB, you are quite amazing. Woke up from your sleep and you can jump straight in to discuss the drama with us. If that happens to me I will be too drowsy to utter a single word.

  79. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, I was trying to do a quick re-watch before the party but fell asleep half-way. So I woke up to catch up and was not too far off. If I’d been sound asleep in bed, I’d not have been able to get to the computer!!

  80. I need to rewatch the dragon scene.

  81. It’s consistent with Soo-Ha as we see him since start of the drama and what is his ability. He reads minds, so he doesn’t need the law to give proof. He knows the truth in absolute by reading mind. So he’s looking for justice, not law, even if justice in a extreme case is just to kill someone about to commit more murders and protect his loved one.

  82. KW lives to regret his sense of rigid integrity😁 And if I remember correctly, he later redeems himself by being more flexible.

  83. I will be away for 2 weekends, will miss the rewatch. 🙁 see you all 3 weeks later.

  84. Bye @FF. My version (Viki) does not seem to have an epilogue for episode 8. Is this just in the screenplay?

  85. I’ve to quit now.
I really need to end the last episode of the drama I’m watching now before sleeping. 🙂
Bye bye and see you soon.

  86. Bye @WE, @GB. See you next week.

  87. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@MM, KW is in a terribly impossible situation. His loyalty has to be split between adversaries, where one whom he hates, is out to kill the other whom he loves.

  88. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yes @FF, rewatch the ‘dragon’ scene. HS mentions it to SH when he tells her what her mum said. The subs failed to include it for the mum’s scene which means it was edited out, because HS seems to have heard it.

Will miss you the next 2 weeks. See you at Ep 11!

  89. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE Bye! I love Soo Ha’s character. I feel/felt so much for him when he loses his memory.

  90. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@SD Bye! I have the epilogue but I don’t know if it’s in the screenplay… it must be there though!
